People were afraid micro transactions would lead to pay-to-win so arenanet just made it pay-to-lose.
More access to all auras would be nice(not depending on weapon choice). I think the way their changes are headed is making auras grant boons as well as cause conditions to make them stronger in their own right rather than just a bonus.
Fire shield recently got might on hit and Frost aura got the 10% protection most recently.
Shocking aura is just a stun so far, maybe they could add weakness or something depending on how they revamp that condition in the next patch.
Magnetic aura is a reflect so it might be difficult to change it without hurting existing playstyles. Maybe cause blind on reflected skills if they hit?
If Signets do get changed I’d want them all to be insta-cast stunbreaks before simply becoming aura-triggers. Or at least some of them, like air.
Because you aren’t supposed to sit in one attunement waiting for it to come off cooldown. It’s by design.
I don’t think it works that way.
The staff are likely getting paid no matter what but when you buy gems it looks good on the publisher’s quarterly reports, showing that this license is profitable, so they extend various contracts and the developers keep their jobs for another quarter. They aren’t waiting for your gem purchases to go buy their groceries.
This section of the forums is not helping anyone, save people who want to vent
Do you realize that you’re venting on that very forum about itself?
The only way I see this happening is if it worked for a certain distance or had some small window of effect after a crit/self heal use or something.
I personally don’t like the stealth mechanic much but I wouldn’t want it all but removed with some silly consumable.
I made a Bifrost because wvw staff ele sounded like an endgame I could get behind but now that I actively do it I wish I made the meteorlogicus instead.
On the bright side there are way more nice scepters other than the legendary(as opposed to practically zero nice staffs) so now I just collect them all for much cheaper and whip out bifrost when defending keeps or messing around in lions arch when the server kicks everyone.
For CoF:
Most people will probably say to use either lightning hammer 30/30/0/10/0 build or just d/d 0/10/0/30/30 for heavy condition cleansing for your party. Depends on if you have competent teammates or not though really.
For TA:
I usually just stay in staff but I really don’t enjoy doing that dungeon at all.
I just got my 1000th badge tonight. The first 500 were mostly rushed for my legendary but after I finished that project I started just enjoying my time doing wvw for fun and really started enjoying it. I’m debating if I should just buy another gift of battle or spend some on other stuff.
I find it more strange that a person needs to have every mini that exists..
Maybe data-mining showed that bots have a harder time getting ecto so they decided to shift the power-of-loot in that direction. We really have no idea on their reasoning cycles unless they come out and tell us.
Clicking buy means you agree with the price. It may not be fun to hear but you have nobody to blame but yourself. The BLTP isn’t a retail store, there is no 30-day price guarantee.
Unless cofp1 changed too, I can’t see any reason to do any other PvE content at all with this change. It drops t5 bags, gold, and ecto from the tokens. Get your dust and just upgrade all your T5 you want and never leave fireheart rise except to do the forging(can even do this in your server’s borderland usually).
I hope WvW can drop dragon coffers, I did the southsun stuff for exactly as long as it took to get the back skins.
High vitality is only really useful if you use consumables like lemongrass poultry soup and traits that reduce condition durations as a replacement for cantrips. It can let you ignore certain conditions altogether but only from certain sources, the most debilitating ones still need to be cleansed asap.
The reason most people just take cantrips is because they’re the only utilities that break stuns and synergize with 30 in water cleansing conditions and giving boons that boost your damage.
I have used and enjoyed s/d 20 fire/20 air/30 earth with signets granting fury/swiftness/protection wearing soldiers everything and boon duration runes. Signet of fire/earth/restoration and a stun break cantrip are usually what I go for unless zerging which air can be useful too. Its not as powerful as water/arcane bunker but its different.
If you use heavy armor Mind of Koda is just as good(HotW dungeon helmet).
This only really works on a thief because you can get away with just spamming 2.
congrats, now upgrade that aweful pearl sword.
I swear I came up with this exact concept on Reddit ( http://www.reddit.com/r/gw2esports/comments/1fab39/daily_discussion_529_viability_of_elites_in/ca8cd8m) a few days ago =P
“Finally, I think it’d be neat if a future Elementalist Elite was made based around attunement swapping. The passive would decrease the attunement recharge rate, and the active would take all your attunements off cooldowns. This would give Eles the option NOT to spec deep into Arcane for the (essentially) required cooldown reduction.”
I have to say, I think it’d be great. The only problem is that it’d be very tough to balance. It’d also make that trait just as essential as 30 arcane is now. (But it would give us more options, which is always nice.) Also, I think the recharge rate on the signet would have to be lower. Like 30 seconds max. And the Earth Trait Written in Stone would have to be considered as well.
Great minds must think alike :P
I actually don’t use reddit anymore, this just came to me one day when I noticed how little my elite matters compared to my warrior or other professions.
I chose a longer cooldown because with signet mastery and written in stone I feel that those skills could be a little too strong and because all ele utilities worth using are on insanely long timers so I was just being realistic.
I would settle for conjures becoming like engi kits or spreading out our stunbreaks over other skill types but everyone knows our elites are horrible.
Will getting a 660 rather than a 660 ti matter much?
It is probably a noticeable boost but I play on a factory OC’d 650 and can wvw running at max settings. Only cost ~$100 last year when I bought it too.
Just upgrade to windows 7 and have 8gb of memory, your processor seems fine. This game is more CPU reliant anyway.
edit: The nvidia 600 series are all very low power draw, you can easily get away with 500w if you plan things out. There are PSU calculators around the web if you search a little. ex: http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com
(edited by Solo.9027)
Passive: 15% boon duration
Active: All attunements are recharged
60 second cooldown, instant cast
or
Passive: 30% attunement recharge
Active: Grant all boons for 5 seconds
75 second cooldown, 1 second cast
Seems balanced to me and it would free elementalists from being forced into heavy arcane investment depending on how it is implemented. I wanted to include a stun break but I highly doubt we will ever see those on non-cantrips at this point.
What do you think?
do you want ascended armor?
/jranger
Meme’s die when their hosts die. let it go.
As to the OP, i’d like to be able to ascend my existing transmuted exotic armor for more stats but not for huge stacks of ecto or T6. Make it simple and have more than 1-2 ways of doing it.
Why don’t you write it since you know everything..
I was bored so I calculated the percentages of tiers of loot dropping based on OP’s data.
% chance of T6-10.73%
% chance of T5-35.95%
% chance of Trash-52.06%
% chance of other-1.26%
The ‘other’ group obviously relates to the prefix on the bag opened(like lodestones from miner’s etc..).
The ‘trash’ group is named thus because of the negligible relative values because they are so common and found elsewhere, it includes T5&6 silk and leather.
I know the numbers probably seem skewed but that is because we don’t have data on how many of each came from every bag. Considering DR kicks in after as little as 30 minutes I wonder if we can extract the intended rate of attainment of this stuff that Anet planned for us? Maybe that info would alleviate some of the whining over legendary weapon difficulty and other general loot concerns.
I honestly don’t think Thor is worth it in pugs. The build relies on others to buff you so that your multipliers shine, something you will not get in pugs.
thats what i was worried about; but then i realised that vulnerabiltity is really common (even if its only a couple of stacks), whilst guardian ele ranger (cond damage though "/) and engi (nader) can all keep pretty decent burn uptime (i could never give up vigor on crit; so it only needs burning and vuln for multipliers – if i guessed the traits wrong; was too lazy to check)
… but then my current ele puts out perm 9-12 stacks of aoe might, perm fury for myself (decent uptime for team) and nice group healing/cleansing ability(i realised i didnt attatch my current eles pic; that one on the first post is what im planning on it looking like finally; but i dont want to waste transmutation stones -the gear is still a bit messed up; crit damage not optimised; need to get celestial trinkets and was planning on swapping out my soldier daggers for berserker ones)
Most pugs will only appreciate an ele that is popping off fields left and right and wiping conditions for them. It doesn’t make sense to pug putting yourself at risk using a full dps hammer build because they don’t even see your dps numbers anyway but they will remember how many times they had to revive you. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I had more opportunities to use it but good parties are hard to come by.
In my experience its best to just d/d 0/10/0/30/30 in full berserkers switching to staff if you will be a liability in melee. If the party is so bad that I can’t get by on this its not worth being in the party.
This skill got nerfed a day or so after I bought it. I remember being new and feeling so regretful about wasting skillpoints, over time you get used to all the useless stuff we have and settle into one of the 2 builds that work that everyone else is using.
I find it tragically ironic that elementalists are so horrible underwater however I want to try to make it work(or at least give myself courage to chase people who go under). Does anyone have a trait/utility/etc spread that isn’t horrible? Right now I just sit in water attunement unless I absolutely need to CC but am lost as to utilities and possible traits for terrestrial synergy.
I recently tried signets s/f(25/15/30/0/0) on land after May’s patch and find it just passable but when underwater signets seem to be the only logical choice though looking at the other options boggles the mind.. Why isnt there a trident trait in arcane? Why doesnt evasive arcana/conjures/most glyphs have an underwater alternative? Why is earth 1 so incredibly weak? The game has been out for far too long for these issues to still exist.
I should note that this is asking for advice versus players, not npc’s.
The easiest way to make money without dungeon farming as a sub-80 would be to spend laurels on heavy bags. If you get a blood, dust, and a scale thats at least a gold plus dailies grant nice xp. Post 80 soloist money farm used to be cursed shore farming but the May patch really ruined the fun of events, roaming is still fun with a good dps class though since zombies are easy.
So you turned 97g into 109g, thats like $5 in gems of profit but now you need a new mouse! Net loss!
(just kidding, your data is appreciated)
I’m just playing and having fun and whatever I accumulate is fine, as long as I feel my net worth isn’t dropping. It could be dropping in reality, but as long as it doesn’t feel like it, I don’t care.
If we could extrapolate this to the real world we would be living in a utopia. In reality there is uncertainty and my kids are hungry and rents late and gas keeps going up etc.. Just playing the game itself is a goal for pretty much everyone who plays a game, in real life work is not something people enjoy unless indoctrinated from an early age or they are motivated by fear or hunger.
I have almost 1billion kinah in Aion, but i don’t play it so it just sits there. Its not losing money tho, just taking up pixel space :P Especially since my characters are sitting on so many items that are no longer available. If I had 10-100,000 gold (probably close to the equivalent here) in gw2, I’d probably just waste it on influence or event stuff to make contests etc anyway.
I’m holding on to my gw2 items, tradeable or not. But soon I will need more bank space so hopefully they increase the cap..
In my last game I had a lot of money and when I decided I was done I just gave it and all my stuff away. I guess epen can be funny like that. I cared so much for it earning it but over time enthusiasm always diminishes. I guess its a lesson about life, don’t let yourself get too swept up in anything because you can just as easily fall out of love.
We can learn about what will happen when something like fossil fuels run out based on the prices of super adventure box skins.
We have seen that all it takes is whispers of scarcity for markets to over react as was seen when world events changes were mentioned on the forums and ecto prices spiked. Although, this was probably already known.
Also, we have a glimpse of how much people value their personal time in the listing/bidding prices on items with skill point costs being the primary expense.
If we are your experiment, John, my advice as a mouse in the maze would be to add more types of cheeze if you want me to keep searching.
1. More weapon types
2. Conjures work like engineer kits
3. signet of air stunbreak
4. change lesser elemental to a self boon of some type with stunbreak
5. consolidate duplicate ‘+5% dmg to burning’ fire traits and add something defensive
6. streamline some animations so they can be used on moving targets better
7. more “Fused” type armor options with elemental themes
8. more pants for male elementalists(not skinny jeans or dresses)
They had to tie the difficulty to jumping because dodging is too hard for new players walking in on a level 2. Also, high level mining nodes in a dungeon just after they started selling picks those newbie characters can use for $10 is pretty sleezy in my opinion.
Bottom line, if you think it will be a limited item and will be wanted by people, invest, even if it’s only a small portion of your cash because having your gold in the bank will not make you money.
^This
Anyone who sits on 1k in actual gold is losing money every day as everyone else is also making gold every day decreasing the purchasing power that your gold holds.
Arguably, his dungeon tokens have more value.
In the real world, demand is infinite and resources are finite.
In a virtual world demand is infinite and resources are infinite. The only thing that has any real value in a virtual world is time. Each person values their time differently than others.
In the real world a person can invent demand of worthless byproducts and make himself rich without the deus ex machina of a patch update or developer forum post that also affords that avenue to everyone else. There are no patents on crafting recipes.
Gasoline was once just a byproduct of the refining of kerosine, now it is a primary commodity. The entire computer industry was created by the exploitation of tech foreveralones tinkering in their parents garage by corporate exploiters.
Basically I get your point but I believe resources are only as finite as we are lazy, just like in any game world. If you look at the third world and see some simple solutions they have to problems first worlders have huge convoluted systems to solve you can see what I mean.
I think the better way to have handled forcing players to use RTL as an attack instead of an escape would have been to give it more damage so that it would be seen as a loss of dps to waste it getting away. If they did this and gave it a minor cd increase just flatly instead of conditionally there would be less outrage and it would be keeping in the style of give/take balancing instead of straight up skill gutting.
The range fix is fine as long as they also fixed how easy it was to get snagged on the most minor terrain.

Are you also angry that people who suck at carnival games can just go to the toy store and buy stuffed animals?
Warriors don’t have ANY invulnerability skills.
Shield #5 is a 30 second cooldown mist form clone that you can trait even further to 24 seconds.
Mist form needs to be dropped down to 45 seconds base with 36 seconds if traited.
Good luck using arcane shield vs a zerg.
That needed to be nerfed.
Even I was doing that. Running into a zerg, aoe, mist form out and heal. The main idea was to have an “oh crap” button and be able to heal while invulnerable. Arcane shield now provides this.
I’m not talking about a drive by(as if ele even have the tools to singlehandedly infiltrate a zerg the way you are describing..), I’m talking about fighting in a group v group battle at all and attempting to use any one of our super telegraphed skills without getting spotted and focused down.
If I could suggest a future patch fix the cooldown needs to be brought down to bring it more in line with warrior shield 5(30sec cd/same duration+limitations) and the stunbreak can be moved to air signet since stun breaks are supposed to be insta-cast skills that don’t get in the way of other skills.
You can preview the gauntlets from the PvP locker, for those who didn’t know.
Can someone screenshot this?
Good luck using arcane shield vs a zerg.
Any pics of the new gloves?
The comet’s blast finisher now works the same as with dragon’s tooth. From practise, this is a good change, but DT also has the advantage that you can cast it before ring of fire, or cast flamewall after casting DT, to make sure the might stacking is activate, so I don’t know if it’ll work as well with comet. Still, it’ll allow focus users to create blast finishers from range, which is important.
The problem with that logic is that only 2 fields affect the enemy target when you dop a blast finisher on them: dark and poison. Ele get neither of these fields in any weapon combinations, let alone in a water attunement. All other blast effects affect the caster/friendlies, which there is no guarantee of hitting when targetting a ranged enemy. Its sort of just there, you might get it to proc vs some dynamic event boss when 30 people are standing on the enemy and fields are active under them but in those situations the number of players matters more than anything else anyway.
I’m anxious to log in tonight to find out if i’ve been holding chickens wrong all this time.
