Fused gloves, sprocket shoulders, achievement gloves/shoulders/helm, backpacks…. maybe more, I haven’t payed much attention to living story for a while. I agree there should be more, just giving credit where its due.
I guess they didn’t like the term “trash mob”.
I’m glad I made several thousand of them last night since I knew they were planning this.
You “knew”.
Luckily tin foil hats arent made with leather or silk.
Gah I’m stuck at work for 2 more hours! (then an hour drive home and a trip to the vet) This bites.
theres a preview on the main news page: https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/050bb01-new-armor.jpg
I might get the light set, most of it looks decent on male light sylvari. That mask is just silly though, I wish we had more ornate light helms(not hoods) that dont cover the face like TA’s or sylvari cultural crown(t1 or 2 i forget which).

this was on the main page, also a pic of the new pistol and sword skins…
I have a legendary staff on my ele and I still pretty much just leave it in berserker’s mode. I think once or twice I wvw’d with it in soldiers but there really is no reason to go with anything else.
For empyrean you can get about a dungeon’s worth from queensdale alone within like 2 waypoints very simply. Theres six chests: starting from vale waypoint under the harpy tree then head east to the altar brook wolf cave then further north east across the lake into the bandits cave then waypoint to the south east corner for the 3 chest in the demon grub puzzle. After that I usually go to gap waypoint in kessex hills for the other bandit cave chest then warp back to lions arch for those.
Dungeons like cof and ac are the best for empyrean though since they pay good gold/time ratios and lfg always has people doing them. I have made 4 ascended weapons so far but now I only really collect vision crystals and just buy the rest. Getting to 500, twice, was the hard part but I could probably do it again much cheaper knowing what I know now.
This is not a battle we want to be picking, we already have access to near perma fire fields and nearly enough finishers to cap a party with the best duration might stacks. If anything we should be asking for more varied fields across weapons that don’t have as many or as useful fields.
Swirling winds could use that upgrade, maybe make it a smoke field.
A tldr bite sized guide/build is what made everyone run 0/10/0/30/30 and lead to nerfs and bad stereotypes about the class. Your guide is well written, please dont dumb it down for the mouthbreathers.
I dont use it for pve but my soldier’s gear has melandru 6×.
Its like the old magic find armor debate, you are dragging the party down with your lower stats for purely personal gain.
Lets say someone buys 100 gold worth of silver doubloons, and this patch rolls along. What happens then. Is the 100 gold gone because silver doubloon demand is gone too?
Reimbursing would probably have to take place, and Arenanet doesn’t reimburse people that are associated with the market.
Therein lies the risk(well, some of it). Without that risk you would not be entitled to your profit as a speculator. The trading post is not walmart, there is no return policy or money back guarantee.
If all skills just showed what the combat log showed there would be less hundred blade worshippers.
While we’re talking about selling skins, I wish they sold all of their costumes as parts. I don’t want to wear an entire pre-made suit but some pieces would work really well and would totally be worth 100-200gems each.
Thank you all for your posts! This is really helpful to see what the players want.
I’m flipping these, why don’t you just pay the high price? I invested a considerable percentage of my gold into this asset.
It would be extremely unfair to me and my fellow speculators should Arenanet change the supply IN ANY WAY.
Svarty, can you explain why flipping is important to the market or player base so we can make a fair argument of why it would be unfair for the price to change? I’m sure some players find it extremely unfair to pay your prices just based on speculation and other players’ bottom dollar.
Flipping is the market verifying the true value of an item. If a flipper jacks up the price and nobody buys or he is undercut, he takes a loss(listing fee) and the market rejects his proposed value for the item. Flippers make money because the effort to aquire the items otherwise is too much for the average person so they prefer to just pay more for the labor of the person who doesnt mind. It all comes back to RNG, if the price is too much for you just go buy up pebbles and get to forging or hope for deus ex anet to add them to some future loot bags the way they did with lodestones and champion bags.
Clearly the guy was just new/inexperienced, but you can call staff ele bad if it makes you feel good about yourself.
I’m totally not the target demographic for these costumes but for $10 you could probably get a better costume in real life from thrift store rags(which is what these ‘costumes’ look like).
Blasting staff, windbourne dagger, and vigorous scepter should all have been one trait since we can’t weapon swap. Its just filler so they don’t have to give us good traits, thats why 99% of people who take arcana use the same 3 traits in all three slots.
Also, anyone notice that we don’t have a focus trait? Its like they forgot…
I Definitely don’t want to get in the middle of this, as I can see both sides pretty clearly, but FYI – a LH ele will be in water for the majority of the time they are swinging the lightning hammer (at least in the build I started with), but this doesn’t equal support, as they don’t have anything but the hammer skills available.
Lightning hammer has constant blast finishers(for teammate’s fields) and a couple of CC skills to use as interrupts. Not all support comes from green numbers.
a plain: zerk > everything is more misinforming than helpful. Taking party set up and trait/utilities choice for granted can be deadly.
Zerk is the average Joe build.
It is… pug 100 players; over 80 will be ermegherdimazerhg (including me why not)
I find most puggers are usually in AC gear or karma armor from my experience, that hints towards soldiers and other even less favorable combinations. The real number of people who run full scholar/berserk is probably less than 10%. Rubies is probably 20% max. Source: I pug almost exclusively.
Im using Knights armor + mix of celestial/berserkers trinkets on my ele but with support traits (0/20/0/30/20) with staff, I know my combos and i think im useful in the dungeons + in AC the “Frost Bow” is OP ^^
I don’t mean to derail if I did, I’m just saying full berserkers do A LOT more damage and damage has a real measureable effect.
For example, using your frost bow in that scenario with a low damage build will not be able to kill a burrow in 1 shot, but in full dps build it will. This saves your team+hodgins from countless leaping gravelings whose damage/cc you will not be able to entirely heal/avoid especially when they keep spawning the longer you linger on each burrow.
I’m playing support ele and I have never had such a problem, i just heal/buff everyone and noone dies
Too bad that in the most cases ppl just want everyone to be full berserkers and don’t want me sometimes…
I’d take a support ele over yet another zerk guy… the contribution and difference they make, specially while pugging with random people is amazing.
Most of the support in this game is hard coded into skills/traits with little scalability from gear. Gearing for anything except dps only prolongs a fight opening the party up to further attacks. A berserker ele played well can support just as well but also deals like 5x more damage so the threat is eliminated faster.
but, but…I don’t wanna be a support class. I already have a guardian for that. I’d rather be a ranged nuker that can deal massive AoE damage, ya know like how mages have been in every single game ever in the history of video games.
Expect for at least GW1 were Eles dealt horrible damage; you know, the predecessor of GW2.
However if you want to deal massive AoE damage from afar you can actually do that; try the Staff build of Guanglai Kangyi.
Caught my attention, link please?
Its the same stuff you did to get to 400 except you can also refine ascended mats for cheaper craft experience for a small window in the middle and you will be needing those mats anyway post 500.
Some tricks are to run dungeons like AC for Soldiers or CoE for Dire inscriptions by salvaging focus/shields of those stats(any non-crafted will give a chance) and to gather gold to buy the other stuff. Also, if you are close to a level threshold you can discover rare level 80 weapons for a smaller amount of xp and salvage them for ecto to recoup, though you get nothing for further crafting them after discovery.
I’m like 2 discoveries from my 2nd 500 and i’ve never had more than 15-20g liquid on hand during the process.
Burning retreat got buffed, lava font got buffed with persisting flames, some damaging aoe’s got better ranges for splash damage. The conjure changes can really be entirely ignored and we still got some decent boosts. Not to mention the ground targetting enhancements that especially help us, but you can QQ if you need to, go ahead let it all out I know its a tradition on this board.
I expected it to be for an economics class too but its actually just a terrible educator in the south.
Many teachers say they use videogames to develop students’ “soft skills,” such as self-control, persistence, self-confidence and ability to work in a group.
This line is particularly funny to me thinking about some of the threads ive seen on these forums and dialog ingame. This next generation of kids is screwed if theyre using escapism to teach people how to live.
People who just copy a fotm build never really played their class and are easily pushed to reroll whenever a balance patch introduces a little uncertainty to their false sense of security in being the best build. No offense to daphoenix but his post popularizing that kittening bunker build got the ele population a lot of quick to QQ unskilled bandwagoners that i’m glad to see go. /rant
If you are learning, don’t skip Kholer. It is one of the best bosses to learn the basics.
If you are experienced, don’t skip Kholer. It is one of the most fun fights in the game (and what is this game for if its not for fun battles) and has a big chest with chance of precursor drop. Easy money.
/flameshield
Does he even drop coin anymore though? I really liked that fight and it taught me a lot about reflects on my ele but for 99% of pugs its unfathomable to even consider attacking him.
Honestly I think we’ve lost so many ele players from nerfs that the ones left are the diehards already set in their ways. I’m really loving staff lately though, not to derail.
No, they need something to make them work with our class mechanic, but becoming kits is ni’ it.
Sorry for the dwarf speak, stupid word filter
Your dwarven wording gave me an idea, what if we summon each conjure by pressing the attunement key for that element again after being in the element already(or holding it down or whatever)? Call it some sort of Re-attunement. That way we could keep charges as the conjure mechanic (boosted by conjurer trait) or even tie conjure recharge rate to arcana and do away with attunement recharge altogether. Then we could have all the cool skills without losing utility slots but still have constraints on their use.
Hopefully they release more things to use karma for since they now have a tighter grip on how karma is gained.
1. Those guides depend on trading post prices for their formulas and crafting advise. They assume you’re going to buy everything needed from the trading post. There are cheaper ways to go about it
2) I believe the only things we can craft are Lump of Mithrillium, Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Glob of Elder Spirit Residue, Spiritwood Plank, Spool of Thick Elonian Cord and Elonian Leather Square. Is this correct? And with the once a day requirement won’t this be slow?
Completely incorrect. You can only craft those items after you reach level 500, and we still can’t craft those leather based items. At least, weaponsmith and artificer can’t. I haven’t finished Huntsman yet.
3) Many people in these threads mentioned the diminishing returns making this indefeasible past a point though some people say they made it all the way from 450 to 470. About how many of these would we need to craft to get to a good stopping point (460,465, 470 whichever is feasable)? I want to try to calculate how much this stage will cost me and how many days I will have to wait with the time gating.
From 400 to 425 you craft ancient logs to planks and Ori ore to ingots. One stack of each material should be enough to reach level 425 if you’re using maximum crafting boosters.
From 425 to 450 you have to “discover” around 8 or 9 exotic weapons from the craft you are leveling (also using maximum crafting boosters). Artificer can also discover a number of potions. It’s also possible here to discover rare level gear but the crafting xp isn’t all that good.
From 450 to 475 you can craft all your bloodstone stuff, dragonite and empyreal stuff. That stuff turns white at 475 and you get no more crafting xp from crafting them.
From 475 to 500 you’ll have to “discover” around 12 exotic weapons, or a lot of rares, or for artificing, potions.
After 500 you can start to craft Lump of Mithrillium, Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Glob of Elder Spirit Residue, Spiritwood Plank and they weapons that use those materials.
This is mostly wrong please delete.
I totally agree with OP.
I work 10 hr daily, i have probably 1-2 hr to play and it is really annoying to expend this time in front of an npc and looking for materials.
Please anet think is the casual players
laures+badges.
laures + gold.
SPVP reward
The solution is to buy gold with the $ you farmed at work.
I wish we got torment instead of bleed on either 1 or 2 and the channel on 2 is almost unrecognizable and feels like it has a delay. All the conjures are looking pretty good but i’m not terribly excited about using them just yet, there are still things they can do to make conjures in general more welcoming to rely on that people have been posting almost daily that I have yet to see even acknowledged.
I hope they nerf staff damage to oblivion, make it truly support weapon and make close range weapon more deadly.
I hope you step on a lego.
Ele has less time to deal damage. Together with a low hit rate, that leads to much lower damage output than the theoretic max in pvp. In short, Ele’s real damage output is really bad in pvp except in ideal situations (fighting with noobs who never dodge, stay in dragon tooth the whole time, never stun, never fear…)
That’s why Ele is the bottom tier for tournaments. It’s almost impossible to have the above ideal situation in competitive games.
Do you agree with that claim?
100% agree, I was just pointing out that threads like these are talking about pve exclusively and DPS is like a key word for pve. The pvp threads are the ones with all the QQ because of those reasons you stated and more, pve threads generally try to maintain a kind of optimism.
@sunshine
The term DPS is always going to be talking about pve because you can’t measure that quantity in pvp, pvp is not a controlled environment because there are too many variables.
Trait “One with air” now gives 2s of “superspeed” (100% run speed) on swap to air, yourself only (note this is still useless as it just over-writes your swiftness from elemental attunement)
Wait, so its still a major trait then?
Honestly, who would drop bolt to the heart/zephyrs boon/air training/alacrity/fresh air/etc.. for that? Even the experimental stuff like arcane lightning/soothing winds/zephyrs focus sound more useful by comparison.
I am sincerely hoping its a replacement for zephyrs speed as the 5 point minor. That was the trait for which we have been asking for a change since speed boosts dont stack. Maybe they could just drop trait4 for something entirely new?
Also, the fireball change sounds nice but it would have to be pretty spectacular to get me to spec into blasting staff again.
Scholar runes are not that expensive anymore, maybe 10-12g for a whole set if you are patient. I’m almost done my 2nd 500 craft to fully get into d/f but i’ll probably use 0/30/10/10/20 for fresh air, the damage boosts, and vigor/boon-on-swap. Not sure on utilities but all signets might be best until I get used to the rotations.
Why not stone splinters instead of vital striking?
Why not both? Did you think I meant serrated stones? Thats only 5% and vigor/boons is probably more valuable considering I have little d/f experience and so much damage relies on having high% hp. Actually, if I was going to take a 5% trait it would probably be from fire to get the extra power too.
Just get a competent zerker ele with fiery greatsword and spam 2,3,4,5 into the corner, she shouldnt take more than 30-45 seconds. You only have to be targetting her for #2.

I, for one, welcome our new 11111111 overlords.
dps per second
I believe the difference between the classes is ele skills/traits are mostly terribad so you have to know what youre doing not to die but warr skills/traits are more self contained/functionally complete so you can let them do the work that an ele would have to supplement with positioning, camera work, and timing.
I enjoy both but only fully ascend my ele.
Consider this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Desperate_Power
Warriors in heavy armor get +20% more damage just for having as much health as a full HP Ele.
(ok not exactly but really close: Warr half is 10.1k vs Ele full is 10.8k)
Save it, theres still time for Anet to change their minds about all ascended items being account bound.
You’d be better off taking lightning flash instead of the signet and just moving 10 from fire into arcane to take elemental surge and tagging them with arcane blast while in earth then teleport ontop of them when the churn is casting.
This thread smells like science and as refreshing as that is in the ele forums what youre talking about here is just stay in fire staff, which is like 4 words, but you say it in wall-of-text form.
Keep up the good work though, i’ve tried many of your builds and like most of them.
Whats rediculous is when there are low levels in a dungeon and some of the 80s decide they want to swap characters for free xp leaving me to carry the whole party.
Just use obsidian flesh and troll them back.
How would the other 3 attunements work with a torch?
Transmutation splitters remove sigils, they won’t change it because theres a gems solution already. I’m not even mad though, changing stats was more of a headache for me.
