I had success with 0/30/0/20/20 valk/zerker mix but I realized that fresh air and attunement recharge work against each other(the latter cheapens the former). Its still a good build but I’m trying other stuff currently.

One solution would be to give all lower tier speed boons a secondary trait that it will boost the duration of higher speed boons overlapping them.

So zephyr’s speed, when superceded by a 33% swiftness boon, will boost the duration of that swiftness by 10% instead of giving a wasted 10% speed. Most boons are 10-30 seconds so it shouldn’t be gamebreaking.

It should have just been 25 quartz crystals per insignia. I wonder what the thought process was behind even having to charge them in the first place.
Having to be 400 in a crafting discipline plus the time gating and not being able to sell anything is really going to limit most people from even attempting this stuff.
I know I am just collecting cqc while I earn my windy backpiece and casually go for achievements. I’ve already gotten duplicate recipes for crafts I have no intention to get to 400.

You can’t really enjoy the complexities of fighting another human being if a simple scripted A.I. still gives you a hard time.

Strict pve’ers are people still enjoying the tutorial, in my opinion. Theres nothing wrong with that once you realize it for what it is.

Whatever makes you feel good about yourself. I, however, don’t need to denigrate other people preferences by claiming I have been enlightened, “made the grade”, and “graduated” towards PvP, as if PvE was training wheels for “the real game.” I know I am good (I like myself without needing anyone’s approval) thus I have no desire or will to “make my skills a point” by competing against others on PvP (or even caring about PvE achievements.)

If you believe PvE people “suck at GW2” because they don’t love PvP as you do, you are gravely mistaken-and as I mentioned, there are plenty of players who excel at both (why do they keep playing PvE, if it’s supposed to be “training wheels” for the “real”, unscripted GW2 gameplay?)

I honestly don’t see how what I said was insulting to you but I can see why you don’t pvp by how personally you took it.

When I pve its because its more rewarded and because it helps me try out new attack patterns without fear of dying. Why do you think the most hardcore pve dungeon/fractal runners use full berserker gear/builds?

Anet has even been getting praise lately for their latest take on pve dungeons that break from convention because the old way is tired and people are ready for something new, isn’t that why most people leave other MMO’s for this game in the first place?

This game has a great combat system and I really think you are missing out on a large portion of the depth of it if you only pve. Life lessons can often come from stepping out of your comfort zone, even in something as trivial as going from pve to pvp in some videogame.

This would be a nice feature. Call me lazy but when ever I go into PvE my WvW build is now a PvE build

Even the devs have refered to wvw as pve. The main difference is there are different ways to exploit npc’s limitations that simply don’t work on players, and vice versa.

Pve is a place to practice things for wvw for which spvp simply has no translations.

Well… ok then.

I don’t give a crap about magic find. I don’t give a crap about condition damage for example either. What grinds my gears is that they randomly add new gear, which is imbalanced and simply better than other, previously existing gear, which is basically like slapping everyone who invested in gear, which is now simply outshined by the new one, directly in the face. I don’t even own a set of magic find, but even as someone who is using a normal set of armor – now there is something equal, which has magic find in addition to that.

Its actually weaker than every other armor except that it has magic find. The only thing it is better than is older magic find gear.

Critical damage don’t help without the power and precision.

I just dont’ see any glass canon wearing it. It’s mainly for balance build, or power/condition hybrid.

Actually, elementalist’s arcane skills are all auto-crit and one even lets you auto-crit on regular skills too. I don’t know as much about other prof. but ele for sure can use this gear decently for basic tasks.

I originally wanted celestial to use as a stage between valk and berserker for wvw but now I think i’ll just use it to replace my masterwork magic find set and skin it for fun. After all, its basically free gear you can farm up mats for on a lowbie alt doing dailies.

In my 2nd chest I was on a low level theif but it gave me soul bound spvp heavy leg armor… It would not even deposit like other skins.

Aether scraps supposedly can salvage into lodestones. Probably a good idea to buy what you can sooner than later when the event ends.

I get the time gating but what I don’t understand is the need to make things account bound. Give people a chance to make money off of their efforts or to craft things when they want for a price premium.

If the charged quartz is account bound, will the final resulting armor also be bound?

None of those materials are worth outright destroying except silk scrap and thick leather and if that guide is right and the main result is only celestial recipes you would only really want to destroy ~2 stacks per character anyway. This is essentially them selling us crafting recipes(that not everyone who crafts might even want) for 17.5silver.

I highly doubt this affects supply unless they also took a pass at what drops in heavy bags.

Question, i know fire tree has no real love due to our survivability, but would a celestial setup perhaps allow us to take advantage of 30 fire setup in any way? say something like 30/0/0/20/20

I’d say yes(in theory) on the grounds that celestial gear doesn’t add condition duration on its own but adds condition damage.

Anyone else notice that nobody here cares what this armor will look like. I know I’ve chosen the right profession when the math nerds are playing it.

Given your best estimates, how much of a difference would 100% celestial w/divinity runes make versus say 100% berserkers? I’m wondering if it would be worth the month+ of time investment.

Just based off of a quick guess assuming 65%, if you somehow manage to have full exotic celestials (and assuming there’s a celestial jewel for trinkets):

+514 to all stats, +52% critical damage (greatest uncertainty here).

Zerkers with ruby orbs in armor (and of course exquisite ruby for trinkets):
+1123 power, +782 precision, probably +74% critical damage

Zerkers should be pretty accurate as I took the numbers off of the wiki then added the stats of 6 ruby orbs (wiki includes gems for trinkets). I have a pretty good certainty ont he celestial set’s stats except the critical damage. Oddly enough superior divinity adds the same amount of +crit as ruby orbs which is why it’s above my estimated 60%. That said I haven’t checked if they made it possible to craft celestial accessories. At the moment the only available exotic celestial accessories that I know of are the triforge (able to ascend) and the ancient karka shell, the latter is unique so you can’t have two of them. That said, if it’s not possible to craft celestial accessories, the numbers would change. I’m too lazy to calculate just armor right now.

Thanks for that analysis. I may invest in these after all, depending on where the prices of some other things fall after the patch.

Also, you can buy another ancient karka shell for 1000 karka shells off a vendor in southsun. I’m not sure if its unique in that you can only use one, but you can surely buy one more.

I have 2 lvl 80 characters in full ascended, an ele and a ranger. With the exception of zerging in WvW, the ranger is better at everything.

Anyone who complains about ranger DPS has never played an ele. Yes, ranger dps is incredibly low in comparison to the 3 melee classes but the ele auto attack doesn’t even hit for 300. The most damaging spell an ele has ‘Fire Grab’ barely clears 1k damage unless you spec full glass at which point everything 1 shots you.

Maybe if you played better you could spec for more damage instead of playing the quintessential auto attack spamming class that is rangers. When I think of rangers I will always remember the bear pet auto attack bots from launch. I have never been impressed by a player ranger except during the clearly broken period that ended 6/25/13, and that was mostly from the npc ai following them around.

Ele players are the loudest whiners on the forums but since it gets us some attention I don’t often call them out on it. Most just play the same old boring bunker set and then complain that theres no damage or they die too easy when they’re throwing their dodges away for a blast finisher.

You ignore the fact that Cursed Shore doesn’t require you to party with 4 other people to make that money, that fact alone is worth it to me. Just like in most zombie movies, its the living people that get you killed more often than the undead ones.

Also your kill rate seems very slow, my ele can nuke down a risen in a few seconds. Are you wearing all magic find gear?

Why Air Training instead of Aeromancer’s Alacitry?

Lets pretend X spell does 100 damage and has 10 seconds cooldown.

With Air Training (deals 10% more damage when attuned to air)

It will do 110 × 6 = 660 total damage within a minute.

With Aeromancer’s Alacitry (all your air weapon skills recharge 20% faster)

It will do 100 × 7.5 = 750 total damage within a minute

Is something wrong with my calculations?

Alacrity doesn’t affect electric discharge but air training does. The only cooldown reduction traits that are sometimes nice are water in staff and earth with focus imo, but even then theres usually something better you could take.

This looks awful to be quite honest with you. It throws away the best parts of S/D right now, which is 30 Fire for might and fury stacking, and gains nothing of value.

I should have mentioned that I planned to wvw with it, where might stacking doesn’t really happen unless zerging. For wvw, its functionally identical to your 1st build but it also has solid toughness, vitality, healing, low cd stunbreak, pseudo-swiftness and stability on demand. I may swap in mist form over signet of air depending on the circumstances as well.

By the way, I wasn’t trying to one-up you… no need to be so dismissive.

I noticed you’re using arcane power along with the arcane attacks, if you place the last 10 points into arcane to get good uptime on it you can probably get away with just using valkyre and cavalier armor/trinkets. Along with 30 in air and maybe some berserker weapons you should be criting pretty regularly with 100+% crit damage and still have ~16k hp and ~1400 toughness with rock barrier.

I’m currently using the 30/30/0/0/10 full glass but am planning to try this next:

Why not just make a private arena? It just went public.

To me, WvW is not the place for 1v1 and you shouldn’t expect to find it there.

If you’re not an Asura, you have my sympathies. Radiation field weakness and poison are just incredible now. Half damage and -33% healing in the kill zone where your dps team mates go to town is … really good.

Sylvari have Take Root, which can mess with the other server’s targetting plus its an immobile invulnerability for a few seconds that sometimes gets a spike to switch targets if you precede/follow it up with mist form.

Its not as good as radiation field but radiation field isn’t worth having to play asura, IMO.

I love fresh air. My only problem with it is that a build that uses it as well as heavy arcane investment is working against itself because having shorter attunement recharge rate cheapens the value of instant attunement recharge.

For now though i’m just going to enjoy nuking things, maybe pick up some valk gear instead of zerkers and see if a 3x arcane build can work.

Also keep in mind Fresh air doesn’t have cd atm (there’s no 5 secs cd) so that should be fixed soon and I know this because I crit on every attack.. as soon as I change, my first attack on another attunement keeps bringing back air att. It’s broken.

I dunno, I mean the swaps for me are happening 1 second before my LS comes off cooldown, so I don’t see it. But this new trait makes putting pressure on targets a whole lot easier with those swaps.

There is a cooldown.

As soon as you crit in another attunement, air will become available again instantly. But if you try to do it again within those 5 seconds it won’t be available.

1. air
2. switch to fire and crit
3. air becomes available
4. switch to air and burst
5. switch out again to earth this time and crit
6. air is in cooldown for another 2 seconds or so

The first refresh will be instant, but no more refreshes will be possible until the 5s ICD is done.

Not at all , i just killed an opponent that was trying to escaped just by casting air 1 skill then switch to earth back to air, change to fire and then air again while the chain was still running. There is no cd. You are probably not doing crit with your first atk when you switch to another att while i do or not hitting your opponent fast enough. The trait is either broken or the description is wrong or both.

I spec’d 30/30/0/0/10 to play with the new stuff just in orr and noticed that if I switched from air to fire, air was recharged because of Sunspot even if it didn’t hit anything. I’m thinking the game recognizes a crit even if it misses.

The occasional back item cover, and weapon skin here and there, those aren’t too bad, but when the first armour set added to the game since its launch is obtainable only through the gem store, that is a truly toxic precedent being set. It’s a precedent that makes me feel as though I was mislead when I bought this product.

Armor is different from a skin. To me, “pay to win” implies they are selling armor. These new items are skins.

If you’re tired of the game, quit. You aren’t holding anyone hostage but yourself.

The main thing d/d had over s/d was more access to zephyr’s boon(and sharing it) and since they halved the boon shocking aura gave it isn’t really worth it anymore. Burning speed was nice as a second fire field and still is but now that persisting flames is a given, having half the field uptime isnt an issue for s/d.

I don’t necessarily agree with those builds on that link but I agree with the headline in this thread.

30/30/X/X/X is now workable. Thats worth losing a little from X/X/X/30/30 in my opinion. I say give everything a few weeks to let people settle into their builds and re-gear before crying doom. I’m sure there will be some smaller tweaks as power gamers start figuring out ways to leverage all these new numbers. Basically, lets not burn any bridges here, a lot of these changes were suggestions we made on these exact forums.

When you say “making sure that at least two are different types” do you mean different types of weapons ( great sword + sword) or do you mean different types within the same weapon type? ( 2 rabid + 2 carrion)

He means if you have 4 rare focus and 4 rare warhorns mix them up when you forge so you get a chance at an exotic greatsword or other more valued weapon.

As to OP, I salvage rare armor and forge rare weapons. Since I’m not going for anything in particular I always just mix whatever I have onhand or just go craft a focus for cheap to randomize the results.

In pve full berserker staff is actually really survivable and pumps out nice aoe dps. The problem comes when you are forced to play defensively for your party and have to sit in the defensive attunements longer basically gutting your dps. On good balanced smart parties when you can just unload in safety its definitely worth doing.

I feel the other weapons are best with some manner of survival stats because they are geared more toward combo finishing and aura boon uptime which steers us into X/X/X/30/30 builds with boon duration runes and that really takes the bite out of our upfront damage. They do help the team immensely and make us a force multiplier but sometimes I’d just prefer to see the really big numbers for myself.

If its so destructive to you why don’t you just shoot the ele with something from the wall? He will likely die or run in 3 shots from practically any class.

There are still no higher tier of breathers and every gem store skin group has lacked underwater skins(Halloween, winters, super, fused, jade). The last underwater skins added were from fractals or guild commendations… two parts of this enormous awesome game that I personally have come to ignore entirely.

I wanted to maybe go for the kraitkin since I finished my terrestrial legendary but if Anet doesn’t even want to devote resources to underwater I can’t justify it either.

Personally though, when you are a week early, tough luck.

If they had a strict policy of “refunds permissible for purchases x days before a sale”, then how about x+1, x+2 and so on?

People would keep trying to stretch the policy.

Not really. In America, many large retailers have policies for price-matching against competitors and their own sale prices as long as a month out. I don’t think a week is unreasonable. If people have a solid policy in writing, it’s easy for them to approve or deny claims. People couldn’t get away with trying to stretch the limit because the limit has been carved in stone, so to speak.

As far as I know, ArenaNet has never stated explicitly anything regarding “gem sales are final” or “we have a refund policy to account for sale promotions — ask us!” I could be wrong, though, and would welcome quoted verbiage here. A solid answer would help tremendously.

Price match only exists because obnoxious consumers would just re-buy and return the higher priced receipt, causing needless paperwork and employee time. Don’t expect any kind of digital sales to offer you that kind of service or you will be repeatedly disappointed.
