facepalm
After reading one too many posts insulting players for failures, Ceridwen finally loses it. You have been warned.
Who’s responsible for an event (specifically the marionette) failing?
I’m responsible, you’re responsible, we’re ALL sodding responsible. Yes, everyone taking part is at fault. Co-operation is the nature of this event.
Why are we all to blame?
There are several reasons, which include but are not limited to, the following (mentally tick the one which most applies to you, or tick all that apply if you feel you are deserving of more):
*Assuming people have played the content before, that each and every one knows exactly what to do at all times. Because they must have and must do, because you do!
*Assuming you have no part in educating the people on your run with exactly what to do. Your failure to communicate your knowledge has grossly let your side down. Give yourself a pat on the back for your non-contribution! Excellent.
*Assuming that it’s okay to insult and belittle people in-game and on forums when there are failures. You lower morale, and in doing so, set yourself and others up for future failures. Well played, you.
*Assuming every player has a maxed-out character taking part, just because your own character is!
*You think everyone should have the event down perfectly after one or two attempts because you have? If you think they should, well done! That’s another assumption and you are clearly a professional. Someone should be paying you for your time.
*Yes, players who fail may well be at fault too, but immediately shifting blame when you DO NOT know exactly why things happened the way they did is lazy reactive thinking. I say thinking; I probably shouldn’t because that doesn’t appear to be involved in the process at all. Assumption!
*Of course, all of that said, turning up and not knowing the minutiae isn’t a crime. Asking isn’t a crime, and it’s better than keeping quiet and contributing to the failure. If this is you, there’s plenty of help and guides now available, so do your best to get stuck in. If you still fail, try to identify what YOU did that was wrong, and arm yourself with better knowledge for next time. That is, if the people from the above reasons don’t make you want to kill yourself or drown kittens instead.
Enough reasons, I need to go and put the kettle on. But to sum up:
Why on earth do you think it’s acceptable to berate other people? How does this make the experience better? Do you feel better for it? Is your life that terrible that’s what you need to do to feel good about yourself? If so, that’s why events will fail. Well done, you.
Owning up to responsibilities probably shouldn’t happen in an online game, but here’s a learning opportunity for all.
sigh
goes to kettle
awaits flames… but not from kettle

Were you involved in the overflow win a little over 12 hours ago (time as of me typing)? The sort of relaxed attitude we had leading up to the start really helps in the success of the event. I don’t know how many TTS regulars were stacked through the lanes but there plenty of “average joes” there as well.
Yes I was, and it was a fantastic run. everyon on that OF was rocking the good vibes XD
I have no hate towards new players, hell, I teach new guildies fractals and dungeons every day around the class and build they choose to play. I’m not an elitist that tells you that you have to play this way or you’re not playing right. My problem is directed towards the dependency of achievements on a group of people that you have no control nor influence on. People that are cursing you out when u trying to explain them something or ones that completely ignore you, following the failure of the entire line are a problem.
Sorry about that Rom, never meant to imply that you were elitist in anyway. I guess I’m just getting fed up with all the qq on the forums all the time. So many negative vibes…

Now draw a picture of Average Joe.
Would you want him at your side?I would take an average Joe all the time
Right, but then in theory Average Joe is a middle class player. So there’s 50% of players that are way below Average Joe. And possibility of getting Joe and rest that are above him only is quite slim. What about all those Not-So-Average Joes that are taking part in it? Because most of the Above-Average-Joes are already done with the content and are back in WvW, Dungeons or wandering around Bloodtide Coast waiting for the next Wurm to spawn.
I honestly don’t get the hate toward average or sub average players. They have every right to participate in the content if they choose to. It’s up to the more advance players to get out of there bubbles and help them out. If you aren’t willing to work with them then the player base isn’t going to get any better. Quite franky I have more fun playing with the average joe, pugs, lowbies, newbies, etc than the guys that are always screaming in your face about something not going right, or people that are only there for the first day and then never come back….

Hiya Josh,
No matter how many casual players become more skillful out of this, there will always exist a few randoms, who stumble upon or try the event for the first time, and compromise the entire server’s victory. This is because the event’s success is heavily tied to the weakest links – and all the other, better players can’t do much to prevent the situation.
Ah but that is where yoiu as a map of Pugs, or randoms need to step up and offer support to those players that simply stumble onto the map at any given time. More often than not the reason servers are failing marointte is becasue no one is offering encouragement to those who might be considered weaker players.
Being a lowbie or a weaker player isn’t the be all or end all folks. The more positive the attitude you keep in your TS/Vent/RC/Mumble the easier it is to get people to cooperate with you. Let’s be honest with yourself here, if you had someone yelling in your face and telling you that you suck 24/7 during the event what incentive do you have to try? Failing a platform is not the be all end all. If you can get your lanes to consistantly keep mobs from reaching the portal you have upwards of 7, that’s right 7! chances at the platforms. If you know a certain boss gives theplayers a hard time, keep explaining it in map before they go in, make sure people understand what’s happening while keeping the mood light.
Now I’ve beaten mario numerous times on OF because I try to instill a sense of community on the map, be it on main or OF. Get everyone reaching for a common goal. If you explain what you need done in voice and on the map and leave the insults you guys will win more often than not. Rmember that is is just a game and there is no ned to get stressed out. The more inclusive you are the funner it gets
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Nah, wurm is still fun as heck XD
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
No. We asked for the harder content so keep it hard. Deso has proven it can be done now it’s up to the rest of the player base to figure it out
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
The biggest thing is to NOT chew out people, or yell at them in chat for making a mistake or failing a platform, it happens. Keep encouraging the lanes and those fighting on platforms.
I was in a rather hilarious OF today. We had one commander take the lead and start coaching people through the event. Seemed like a well enough organized map and all lanes had enough people. We failed all but the max number of chains almost immediately, and the commander grew more hostile until he finally raged and left. With him gone and the weapon bar charged to like 97% with 1 chain severed, we then won in very short order.
That is awesome! Props to you guys for sticking to it and not giveing up! XD
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
8/8 on marrionette when in an OF. You just need to make sure you keep the atmosphere light and fun. Talk in map/say chat a lot if you don’t have a TS/RC/Mumble. The biggest thing is to NOT chew out people, or yell at them in chat for making a mistake or failing a platform, it happens. Keep encouraging the lanes and those fighting on platforms.
Wurm I’ve yet to beat on a main or OF but in the OF we’ve come might dang close numerious times. Condisering Deso (grats guys!) is the only server to beat it thus far I’d say everyone is doing a great job and to keep at it! The kills will eventually come.
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
The only reason it is on a 2 hr timer is because it alternates with wurm… that usuallys gives people about 30 minutes from the end of one of the events to hop over to the other which is the bare min time needed to coordinate a solid set up.
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Well done guys!!!!
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
LIkes:
-Big fights
-Coordination
-Server Rivalry
Dislikes:
- Defending means nothing
- Character bound ranks
- No Alliance chat or ways to facilitate 2 vs 1
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
As some of the TTS members said, they have to deny application, that simply means that the world boss is not working as intended, because even TTS can not guarantee a kill when there’s no players around.
As a leader of TTS I would like to clarify the reason we’ve closed recruitment is because we are at 11 guilds and we don’t have the leadership in place to add more guilds. 5500 people is a lot to manage. That said, we don’t turn locals away from our raids (we usually fight on main and overflow) and we certainly never said we’d gaurentee kills. TTS members banded together because we like doing bosses like Teq and Wurm that provide a challenge both in getting the community to rally together/coordinate and actual boss fight.

That is officially how you kill and hour and a half without having anyone go AFK → troll your other commanders

Way to go Penguin, everyone else ate their fritties
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
The insults are warranted so they know they are messing up everyone else’s enjoyment thinking that inexperience is an excuse to just waltz in an event thinking they can leech off the loot. Plain and simple.
It’s sad to hear you feel that way. I know when I command I take anyone that wants to try out the content, lvl 80 or lowbie. How else are they going to learn? If you have a good commander and a willing team you can win. Makes me sad when people exclude others simply because they don’t meet some stupid gear check…
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
I love the open world fights. Its a great excuse to ban the server together, pugs and guilds alike. Even if you get pushed to OF it’s no big deal, just step up band everyone together and kill all the things ^^
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Why should we put in effort to do something we don’t find rewarding or fun?
Then perhaps this content isn’t for you. I’m not trying to sound harsh but it’s no different than wvwers not wanting to do PvE because they don’t find it fun, same for PvPers or solo roamers. While you guys may not think it, there is a large chunk of the community that really enjoys the hard raid like content and wants more of it to foster a stronger community. And I’m not just talking your server community, I’m talking GW2 as a whole and multiple servers banding together to experiance the content.
GW is what you guys, the players, put into it. If you aren’t willing to get your community involved, well… there’s not really anything you can do. At least you have the option to guest.
Things like world bosses are world bosses for a reason. They should not be a cake walk and they should require 80+ people to beat.
Also the misconception that overflows full of pugs can’t beat things like Teq is just stupid. We are all pugs when you think about it. I run Teq 10pm every night and mostly in overflows. We’ve only lost once and we lost in the most epic defeat ever (the map chat was so halarious). Again it all comes down to you putting in the effort and keeping the fun there.

If you watch the TTS fourms we will be announcing when raid times for the new bosses are happeneing. We guest around to various servers throughout the week and encourage the locales to get in on the fun. You’d don’t have to be a part of TTS to join our raids, just willing to listen to the commanders and help the community band together for some good ol’ fashioned fun.

I hop on every now and again (tyring to complete HoM). That said eye of the north seems to be pretty populated and when I was in factions last night the pvp was in full swing.

Least you guys get rewards. I feel bad for those of us that busted our kitten off but wern’t able to achieve the meta becasue we were ya know, actually helping our server… though by the looks of the rewards it seems I didn’t miss out on much. I got better loot from running AC1 and a fractal…
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
No to a special WXP line for commanding. New commanders are already at a large disadvantage in terms of a lack of player support in the field and it would not help them to have a restricted set of tools as compared to other commanders; we want to make it easier for them, not harder.
100% agreeed. We shouldn’t be trying to do anything that will limit/handicap a new commander. It’s hard enough when you pop the icon and have evryone flock to you. If you don’t have all the tools how can you be expected to lead properly? May as well give the new leaders a fair chance at getting things right the first time. Everyone has to start somewhere right?

•Server: SOR
•League: Gold
•Enjoyed Season 1: Not in Particular
•Should we have season 2?: Yes, but with major changes needed
Things I liked:
- The influx of new players that had been to scared or a mirad of other reasons, into wvw. No mater how you look at it we need more people activley interested in WvW.
- The sense that there was a solid goal to aim toward (reward for effort) and served as a rally point for servers to get their community more involved
- The week 1 match against BG/JQ. I have never seen a more competitive match in my entire year worth of playing. Props to you guys for making it fun.
What I didn’t enjoy:
- Achievments that promoted individule play -> jumping puzzles, supply wasting, yak/sentry camping. This does nothing except breed discord in a community. It’s bad enough that people are being yelled at in map chat for being Achievment hunters, but when guilds and commanders start singling out and grouping pugs and other players under the same lable things start to go down hill. One good example of this was in week 2 I think, when we were trying to hold garrison and we had solo players robbing the place of supply just to get the achievment. Map chat devolved into something very unplesent and it’s not something I ever want to see again. Same goes for the building of siege and ninjaing siege out from people with masteries just to get the stupid meta done.
Solution: If you want to keep having achievments they should promote helping the server by doing things like defending a keep/tower or taking an objective that will only give you credit if you are running with a minimum of 5 people. Supply use should never ever be tied to achievments.
- The lopsided victories aginast a non T1/TC server ->; JQ blew out almost everyone not SOR/BG. BG blew out the 2 easy matches they had. SOR kinda blew out the easy match. There is no way that can make the other 3 servers grouped in gold feel good. If anything that does more harm than good to communities and promotes the “Why should I go out and play if I’m only going ot get face rolled” mentality. I’d imagine this is even worse for the low ranked siver and bronze servers that have yet to win a match. It also promotes transfering to higher/winning servers in order to get good fights.
Possible Solution: Lock server transfers once the season starts -> You started on that server then you stay on that server for the whole 7 weeks. There is no reason we should see people jumping ship left right and center because a sever has all ov a sudden had a bad week, or got double teamed, or now has a less desirable ranking. If that isn’t possible then make it so there is a 2 week wait period before you can play wvw on your new server or you get no rewards/achievments period, unless you make it to the end of the 7 week period on your original server.
Think of it this way: If you enter a regular sporting tournament you have a set team. You don’t get to decide halfway throught the tourny that you don’t want to be on the team anymore becasue it’s loosing. You are generally stuck with that team till the end of the tourny.
* The schedule -> SOR/BG faced each other constantly and face rolled everyone not them (not counting JQ). SOR/BG/JQ will happen only 2 times. I’m sure I’m not the only one to think the gold matches were super lopsided.
* The non-queue queue -> For the love of all things holy get a queue system that actually works as a queue system. Should be first come first served and we should be able to see what number we are in the queue.
* Keep the LS out of WvW -> It has no place in the aside from making another area that needs to be avoided when roaming about.
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
BG, JQ, come back to us! We miss you!
Miss you so bad infact we’ve takin to buying rename kits to call ourselves ‘Blackgate Zerg’ and ‘Need More Jade Quarries’. Has made for some pretty halarious RC convos though, especially when someone shouts out “Incoming Blackgate Zerg! Oh wait, it’s just our guy”
Seriously though I want our love triangle back. XD
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Sticking to the lines of transfers, what are reasonable restrictions to place on players after they transfer? No WvW for the rest of the match? No WvW for 24 hours? Would that help any or would it actually exacerbate the problem?
IMHO the rest of the match → 1 week of no wvw will definetly make people think twice about jumping ship and server hoping to get the wins.
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Oh God, this is the best thread. XD
I saw someone in chat named Treesus Christ one time. Turned out to be an Asura. Missed golden opportunity right there.
I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard ever. That is one highly amusing name XD

kitten those are nice pieces that would look stellar on my Norn guardian but kitten … 400 a pop? That’s insane when a full set cost 800 gems. That full set is 6 pieces @ 133ish gems per piece and now you want 400 for 1? Talk about gouging the player base for all its worth :\
Don’t get me wrong, I love you anet, and I am willing to support you but I think I’ll hold on to my gems for something a bit more worthwhile…
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Yup, I’m also having the same issue. I played last night and got the mask, played again on the same character hoping to get treat bags and instead recieved another mask.

TC! Do we still get our Doly parade?
Gaiscioch Family [GSCH]
Heya [TSS]. Would love to snag an invite if you still have space. I love killing Teq and the challenge of tough bosses. I play generally in the later NA time bracket (10pm-1am PDT) if that helps

We had so many on RC we filled up two overflows… 2nd group got him to 25%

OVERFLOW BEATDOWN
Tequatl was defeated on an overflow comprised mostly of people from Sanctum of Rall, some TC (like myself), JQ, and I think some Blackgates. There were I think 70 of us in Raidcall at one point.
Yup, well done SOR and everyone else. Best quote of the night goes to whoever was commanding and suggest a SOR field trip to get fire powder. OMG the elementals lol. That was a fantastic fight and excellent coordination. We had 110 in Raidcall when we dropped him like a tonne of bricks
