If you look at the start of every great mmo, you will see that there wasn’t much to them at release. If your board now come back in 6+ months and check out the changes. Because if your not having fun now trying to force yourself to have fun is not going to work.

That’s great and all but its not going to help the fact that most people have short attention spans and move game to game. The only way Guild Wars is going to stay on top is by cranking out fresh new content monthly to keep people coming back.

Making money in this game is a brick wall because any one thing you do doesn’t net very much money. I have played a lot of games and there has always been a sure fire way to make mega cash. So far I haven’t found it.

P.S. example in EQ2 I can make around 400+ plat for no more then 2~3 hrs work.

I’ve tried.. but found that I had to move way to close to the TV to read chat etc.. and since the resolution is the same as a PC monitor it gets kindof pixelated at that distance. I even tried with a projector once but ran into the same problem.. had to move too close.

There is a option in the interface to make the interface and text larger. I sit 10ft+ away and I have no problem reading the text.

I think most of you are underestimating what a tricky problem this is to deal with and the amount of time and resources it would take. A single employee combing through the hundreds of reports a day and personally verifying that each one is a legitimate bot report? Yeah, right.

Then they need to hire as many as it takes. It took all of 3 months for bots to destroy D3’s economy beyond repair. We are 5 weeks out now, how much longer do you want to wait to take action?

@ Plague: i have one of the rarest stat groups for gear and didn’t “grind” a single piece of it. Pow/Tough/Vit armor and weapons, bought with the tokens i have been accumulating since level 35 and the money/karma i had been building up since lvl 1.

most instances of grinding in the game are self imposed, and pitiful. like most people simply have a berserker/traveler/rampager stat set, and you can get full exotic EVERYTHING of such items in 7 minutes time after you hit lvl 80. travel to the right karma vendors, oh and press O to buy it.

in fact, the only reason to grind out anything, just like in guild wars is for the looks.

Humm….. maybe us 80’s should log in and stare at our toons in awe……. for a few hours and log out? Knowing my luck next patch you would get DR for standing in 1 spot too long!

You want some credits? Blizzard is a MULTI BILLION DOLLAR company and they cant get rid of the bots. Assuming Anet is going to wipe them out with a program is foolish.

The same reason blizzard is a multi billion dollar company is the same reason they can’t get rid of the bots. They’ve refused to take any action on the matter /ever/ for the entire duration I played it. You see trial account orcs come right out of character creation, marching up to Orgrimmar so they can start glitching themselves into positions that advertise gold farming websites. Did they put controls on trial accounts? No. Did they prohibit trial accounts from spamming chat channels? No.

We’re lucky. We don’t have trial accounts, and thus the only time you see someone spamming is quite literally a hacked account. We’ve forced the illegal gold farmers to go into the even more illegal route of identity theft. If they came from anywhere but China, they’d probably be fined or incarcerated for credit card theft, operating 3rd party hacking programs, or worse. Instead they come from China where even their prisons encourage gold farming as a form of punishment. I don’t feel sorry for them, not a single one, even the ones forced to gold farm in prison.

You tell me, when they have such limited options on how they can operate – without spending $60, that ANet doesn’t have a surefire way to smother that flame. Secondary account security is already on its way using 2-step authentication like Google, they’ve already stated that. Once they get that figured out, the only people you’ll see spamming in game are legitimate players who choose to spam gold or bot, and they’ll be put out like a light.

Until then, the purpose of this thread stands – get over the fact that bots aren’t instantly banned the second you report them. Get over the fact that a week later they are still there, farming their little worthless lives away while the ban hammer floats steadily above their heads, waiting for the moment to squash. Get over the fact that ANet doesn’t just come right out and tell you their plans like a cartoony super villain.

The beginning is near.

And if its done with a program 2 days tops they will be back and we will be back to square 1!

@Airala who said they would have to hunt for bots? I am sure Anet is flooded with bot reports! Perhaps they should wait to the vast majority of players quit and then run a system wide message nicely asking the botters to shut down. Pretty soon the damage done by bots will not be able to be reversed and then it will be too late!

@Apos I highly doubt that they want to destroy their company and bleed players. Before DR this game was selling like hot cakes and sold out everywhere. I honestly think had they handled the bot problem the right way it would have continued to sell out.

Like I said DR is a simpletons fix to a real problem. They need to hire people who know what they are doing before the game tanks harder then the Titanic!

@Aieala if you think Anet is going to be able to stop the bots with a program then the joke is on you. The people who write the bot programs make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. They will have a fix two days tops after Anet has their bot program in place.

The only effective way to get rid of the bot program is to make a human bot banning team. The economy is in the dumps right now, if you ran a add in the paper video game job paying minimum wage the line of people would stretch for blocks.

Pretty soon there is going to be a point of no return for the game and this game is going to be another D3. You don’t wait until the house is burnt to the ground to call the fire department!

No the game isn’t dying. There are plenty of people still playing.

Yes, I have a level 80 Sylvari Ranger. I play her all the time.

Yes the bugs are frustrating, yes broken dynamic events in Orr are extremely frustrating and yes the bug about rewards in the dungeons is also frustrating.

Many of us have decided to stick it out anyway. Mainly because GW2 has spoiled us in game play and we just can’t go back to the clunky combat, mob tagging and node stealing ways of other games.

Were not to the point of saying 3 hail marry’s and tossing holey water over the shoulder and praying for the best. But like it or not the game is losing players no one can deny that.

The bad thing about loosing players is the more people leave the faster other people leave, its a huge ripple effect. When I bought this game I was planning on playing it for the next 3+ years.

My guild started out with 18 people who were real life friends or a friend of a friend. When the game was release every one logged in every night. Fast forward to today and 1 other person may log in during the week and 3 on the weekend. The rest of the people have giving up. How much longer before I have 0 friends on my friends list?

I am not comparing the health of the game during low-pop hours, these are peak times for both American and Oceanic players.

I log on during US peak, and log off after Oceanic peak – so as was my point – I see the population over an entire day, not just as a snippet.

Log on to Sea of Sorrows right now (plum in the Oceanic peak times) – and have a look around.

I know the standard decline for MMOs after release, I’ve played WoW launch, SWG launch, Rift launch, SWTOR and now GW2. There is a predictable pattern of player behaviour.

It shouldn’t be within a month of launch though, it is usually a 3 month point that the decline starts, before players return around 6 months.

This game won’t work like other MMOs because it doesn’t have the subscription incentive (people don’t feel driven to play it because they are paying for it) – so nothing can be said yet of its longevity until the 6 month point.

But until then it is declining much more rapidly than any of those other launches.

GenericBox I couldn’t agree with you more I also play peak hours (est time zone) until the early morning and I am noticing the same thing. Major lack of players in the lower level zones. This game sold 2 million copies something is definitely wrong!

@Dusk did you play at GW2 launch? Zones were packed to the max people were everywhere. Fast forward to today and your lucky to get a hand full of people to show up to events in the 1 to 70 zones.

I played from headstart. Zones were packed because everyone was just starting the game. These people eventually spread out. If you really think that you were going to constantly get stuck in overflows forever and seeing countless super-zergs per event forever, you’re daft.

The game isn’t empty. I see other players constantly. Every event I’ve done, every single one, at least one person has been there with me. Just because you want to believe so badly that the game is bad and dead because of it simply because you don’t like it doesn’t make it so. You’re deluding yourself. People are in the game right now, in the tens of thousands, possibly over 100k, enjoying the game. Deal with it.

Dusk puff your chest out and beat the war drums its not going to change anything. The game has peaked and people are leaving. And its a very serious problem that all zones are not packed 5 weeks after release.

I played FFXI from 2004~2010 which was one of the most successful mmorpg’s in history. And from 2004 to 2007 every zone I ever visited was packed to the max 24/7. Often players were forced to camp on top of each other.

All you’re doing is saying it peaked. You seem pretty convinced, but have no proof at all.

It goes both ways! Show me the zones are packed thread and a net announcing selling 3~4million copies and all of the new servers they added.

I would have had to claim anything first.

There is nothing to claim my 4 year old nice can tell you that there are less players in the 1 to 70 zones then when I first started. That sad fact as many people on this forum have said many of the lower level zones are a ghost town. If this game was gaining and not losing players there would be people playing in those zones.

That’s a pretty cool story. Still waiting on that proof.

If you want proof log in and look around instead of trolling the forums.

Supporting your claims seems really hard. And here I thought you were certain. By all means, go ad hominem on me.

Zale I get it trolling the forums is way more fun then playing the game or you would be playing your self. All I am asking is 5 minutes of your time and about 50 silver to have a look around. (that is if your 80?)

I see plenty of people, but I can’t possibly judge the rise or decline of the game based on who I happen to see at the time. Clearly you can though. You are the great truth bringer. You know, besides that whole proof thing. I’m sure you got that covered.

Zale is this your first MMO? This game is 5 weeks old and all of the zones should be packed with major zergs going on for the next 2 to 3 years. Games don’t need millions of players to be successful. What it needs is a constant influx of new players and people making alts to make the game fun for everyone at all levels!

A good example is FFXI the game peaked at 500k players. How ever every single zone I visited from 2004~2007 was packed to the max with people. People were coming and going in that game 24/7. The fact that that’s not happening here presents a real problem!

Riveting tale, old chap. Still waiting on proof. Preferably of the actual variety. Also nice assumptions about me.

Zale you must love trolling all I keep reading is blah blah blah proof or it didn’t happen! I have 315 played hours in the game I know what I am talking about. I know this might come off as a new concept to you. But i do a little something called play the game. I also have 415k karma I run events all the time. How much have you played?

That sad fact as many people on this forum have said many of the lower level zones are a ghost town. If this game was gaining and not losing players there would be people playing in those zones.”

Hmm… well you see, there are actually three explanations for this.

1. Newer games tend to have more new players. Why? Well because, they’re new, more people are new, and less people have had adequate time to hit a higher level (70-80 in this case).

2. The older a game gets, the more people become high level. Thus, obviously, less people will be in lower zones. Regardless of population growth, less people will be in lower zones a month or two after release — because they’ll all have hit a higher level or quit. Either way, they’re gone. Why do you assume it’s because everyone’s quitting?

3. Because players are less preoccupied with leveling. When a game is newer, people want to be one of the first to max level. I know, I was one of the first to max level in ToR and Diablo 3 for that very reason. However, the older the game is, the less important it feels, thus people are more likely to do less rewarding tasks (e.g. sPvP, WvW) in order to have more fun.

So yeah, even if you had evidence for this claim (which I disagree with from the start, I see in — in the really low level zones especially — tremendous amounts of players).

Then come to Jade Quarry, the other day I rolled a alt norn and there was no one in sight. And the events did not scale very well. It was such a horrible experience that I killed off the whole alt idea!

You give no specific examples of the kinds of unbased criticism the game is getting from people.

The whole “game’s dead already” stuff people keep posting is a good example. Xfire shows tens of thousands of Xfire users playing per day, most server pops are still either full or high, WvW queues are full constantly, LA overflows are happening more often than not, yet people still insist on claiming the game is dying.

Zoridium had a good idea, though it wouldn’t change anyone’s minds. Unreasonable people are unreasonable people. That’s really the bottom line.

The game is not dead but it has peaked and where loosing players. The bad thing about loosing players it it has a ripple effect. The more people that quit makes their friends quit even faster. What fun is a game if non of your real live friends are playing it anymore and have moved on to other games?

There are a lot places that’s quite dead even on a full server like Jade Quarry. Lornar’s Pass, Harathai hinterlands, Sparkfly Fen, Timberline Falls are deserted almost all the time.

Which is a major problem, why are people not making alts or farming low level zones!

First the sarcastic response!
“What are you talking about the zones are full of people I never have problems finding people for events!”
And now the serious response!
I know exactly what you mean I tried to start a alt the other day and I was quickly over run by dynamic events not scaling well and the zone being a ghost town.

DR is killing this game more then the bots (for me)

great rant! I totally agree.

Now could you please explain clearly what “DR” stands for so I can understand what you are talking about ?

Diminishing Returns which means the longer your in a zone the less loot you get until you get nothing at all. DR takes less then 30 minutes to kick in if you do events.

Why you people LIE is beyond me i go to alot of zones as 80 becouse finally game i can END from lvl1 to 80 (this seems majority still not graps lol) and plenty of players at events.

When you cheat and exploit fast to 80 and then say there is nothing to do you are the ones who destroying the whole mmorpgs business. Nomatter what a company try making, you pathetic whiners keep crying its realy sad how you guys have plagued the mmo’s scene over past 7 years:(

Are you guys talking about other game?

Please tell me how you lie and cheat to 80? This games leveling system is so easy that you can be 80 in a week with a modest amount of play time. They practically force you to 80, the higher level you are the faster the leveling gets!

To me that says two problems! (A) the high level people are not happy enough to make alts! (B) Sales have slowed way down and there not that many we people.

God his self could make the perfect mmorpg and people would still quit. It’s the influx of new players that keep the game alive. Its very bother some to me if in 5 weeks a sell out game goes from packed to the max zones to handful of people at events if your lucky .

IMO the main issue is there’s no reason to go back to old zones once you’re maxed (assuming you’ve already explored), I don’t think Anet intended for 80’s to be in Orr 90% of the time.

Which all points to bots and Anet’s DR system to try and handle the bots! Truth be told some of the low level mats sell for as much if not more then some of the high level mats. With the current DR system farming low level zones is a waste of time!

But as a software engineering major, I can make some pretty educated guesses.

And Rift is still as much dynamic as Guild Wars 2, even if it has traditional quests.

I guess I’ll never know, seeing as it’s a sub-fee MMO and I refuse to play any sub-fee MMO on principle. But that doesn’t change the fact that people are severely underestimating what it takes to fix some issues in this game. There is no auto-fix-it button, despite what many seem to believe.

Dusk there is a very simple fix that is so obvious that’s its mind boggling. There are plenty of people starved for work. Throw a ad in the local paper saying paying $7.25 a hour for entry level computer work that involves video games. Rest assured the line of people coming to the office to put in a app would stretch for blocks.

Train them to spot a bot which more then likely has already been confirmed by the player base and ban away! In a week this game would be 95% bot free and there would be much praise for Anet’s handle on the bot program!

Did you play at release? All servers were full and had hideous server queue’s servers were filling as fast as they could make them. I don’t see that happening here!

If you were expecting Guild Wars 2 to be as successful as WoW at release, you’ve been fooling yourself all along. As has been pointed out, the reason WoW enjoyed so much success so early on was because of the Warcraft franchise, all of which broke the last game’s record of the best selling game ever.

Sure, there’s been a population drop and I’ve been directly affected by it, since my guild has died off, but the game clearly isn’t dead.

I never said its going to sell more then WOW. What I did say something is obviously wrong if the game goes from sell out to poor sales in 5 weeks. If the game was still selling well all zones would still be packed and Anet would still be making new servers!

Every zone I ever visited in FFXI from 2004 to 2007 was packed to the max. Sure people were quitting that game all the time. But it was getting tons of new fresh blood daily. And that’s key to any mmo’s survivability.

The game is 5 weeks out why are not the all servers full? Why are they not making new servers? Ohhhh……… I know the game peaked and its all down hill from here!

Because they have added servers, just because every server isn’t full doesn’t mean squat. Even when I played WoW there was never a time when each server was full, so move along with your jargen.

Yes I played at release, and I distinctly remember choosing Frostwolf as my first server and guess what it was a Medium sized server and there were still low pop servers available.

WOW peaked at 15 million players, coming on here saying that they didn’t keep making new servers well after its release is kind of silly isn’t it?

The game is 5 weeks out why are not all servers full?

Because that literally has never happened during any MMORPG release. Ever.

Oh wait, I can name a recent MMORPG release where all the servers filled up in less than a week and they had to add new servers to compensate. It’s called Guild Wars 2.

Obviously you don’t remember the WOW train, They couldn’t pump servers out fast enough a month after release!

Comparisons like that mean moot. WoW had a following because of the strategy games, that in itself is a HUGE reason for it’s success.

Its obvious this game had a huge following as well if it sold 2 million copies in 3 weeks. Since your such a expert you tell me what killed sales.
