Do you want Unbalanced, Untested Maps?

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’m fine with what we’ve got. New maps would certainly be welcome but I don’t play for the maps I play for the excitement. I enjoy the skirmishes, conversations, zergs, strategies and all of the other aspects in WvW, maps are only the basis for which it all occurs. So if we don’t get new maps no big deal, if we do cool, more to explore.

Sick of condi builds when roaming

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’m a very open minded person and I simply do not agree with the complaints being made about conditions. Every one is entitled to an opinion and with how many people agree that it needs to be fixed it’s hard to argue. But as someone who mains a Ranger with 16k vitality, Healing Spring and my pets passive condition removal being my only cleanses… I still find it hard to believe conditions need to be fixed.
Don’t back pedal and try to play attrition with someone who’s built for attrition. Pressure them and be extremely offensive instead of giving them the opportunity to condition nuke you. Applying conditions takes time, don’t give them the time to do it.

Hahaha, I love these Conditions OP, or please do something about conditions threads.
Look at it this way and maybe you’ll reconsider your request: Conditions are hard to cleanse, easy to apply and are readily available in many ways.
What about power damage? It’s difficult to avoid, easy to apply, available through all weapons and most utilities.

Fair? Fair.

My computer had some issues about a month ago and although I participated heavily in the WvW season I wasn’t able to be present for the final day.
Will I still get rewards for my participation and how can I get them? My computer is not yet fixed but it will be up and running again in a few days so I can hopefully congratulate my server and claim my prizes.

Ancestral Outfit and outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

2. Female outfit- Another hooker-bot, stare at the boobies piece of armor. As long as the hormonal infused junkies keep buying these… we won’t get to see the true potential for a decent looking female armor/outfit. It could have looked worlds better and been a more standard Asian/Cantha themed outfit. There needs to be a difference between monk and nipple stickers.

I… What? The Ancestral outfit is extremely tasteful. And for future reference… Just because boobs are hanging out doesn’t mean you need to stare at them. I mean, I know it’s natural to want to, but you don’t have to. People really gotta stop making sex appeal seem like such a bad thing…

As for what OP has said; I both agree and disagree. Although I can’t deny that I’d enjoy being able to mix and match these outfits, I’m just content we’re able to use them in combat, and that they’re still releasing new outfits on top of that. They’ve been releasing a lot of content as they are always doing. Best to be happy we’ve been granted our wishes even if not exactly as we’d imagined.
Give it time, maybe they’ll change it one day in the future. If not, don’t buy the outfits in protest?

Condition Necro

in Necromancer

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Conditions are sub-par, and that’s putting it lightly, in PvE. Although they are by no means useless, they pale in comparison to power-based damage.

However, this is the build I use for WvW solo roaming:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQRArY7djc00Tb5NG3wfbCchaqnA6BIAi2o/gJIfB-TVyCABAcQAO+BAQ1+DIfCASR/AWK/8R9nxUCO9RAIAACAzcmDdmDdmFCYxaA-w
Something to note; this is a very personalized build. Most prefer to use a staff instead of two scepters and by all means you can use a staff if you rather. Most also prefer to use Spectral Armor instead of Well Of Power but again this is preference and changing it will not drastically effect the build.

Scepter, Staff, offhand Dagger and Focus are all very good condition based weapons. Corrupt Boon is one of our best (although buggy) utilities and if you’re going anywhere solo in WvW you want some form of speed which comes with Spectral Walk. Dire armor helps to boost your survivability without reducing your damage too much by having everything else Rabid. Nightmare runes aren’t mandatory but having 95% duration is pretty nasty, especially for those who don’t have, or have used all of, their cleanses.
Avoid using axe, dagger mainhand, “Withering Precision”, “Toxic Landing”, “Close To Death” (as this only effects physical damage, not condition) and “Spiteful Marks.” I would also avoid using Signet Of Spite and Corrosive Poison Cloud, really any other utility will serve you better than these two. Signet Of Spite can nuke people with conditions but it’s an incredibly situational utility as well as it is extremely cheesy.

Apothecary condition build?

I very much appreciate the responses. As I’ve said, I’m still very new to Warrior so mistakes were likely to be prevalent. That’s why I wanted to ask though, and I’m glad I now know it’s not worth my time to purchase Apothecary. Would have been a huge waste | :
So, I think I will go with the first build which is full Dire armor with everything else Rabid. Lots of toughness, a good bit of vitality and tons of condition damage. It’s the exact same set up I run on my Necromancer and it serves me very well, I cannot see why it wouldn’t also apply to a Warrior.
Thanks again!

Apothecary condition build?

in Warrior

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I have already asked a similar question regarding condition builds, so I apologize for thread spam.

Which of the two builds I have made here, the first being a completely condition focused build

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAscTj8cUGaVIehwJiAjgCVqbMAy5zHwGk8q2CA-TVyCABAcIAU4BAki+gFOCAYp8To9H8R9nxUCO9JAIAACAzcmDdmDdmFCYxaA-w

and the second being more of a sustain/condition, or attrition build if you will,

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJIQNAscTjMdUGaVImdwJaAjgCdqfCrgpA48BsBJPA-TlyCABAcIAU4JAmQ4R9nU0HglyFuUSI0+DLpEaMlgTfCACAgAwMn5QnZZWKgFlGB-w

would you consider a better choice with WvW solo roaming in mind? I ask because to be honest, I don’t want to spend all the gold buying the gear needed only to find I don’t like it at all.
I’ve been told the first build is somewhat uncommon in it’s design, but I do a lot of solo roaming and main a conditionmancer, so although Warrior is very different, I feel it would work well with my playstyle. The second I was kind of fumbling with, but I thought with how awesome Healing Signet is even without a healing stat, it would be even better if I invested a bit in to said stat. I also solo roam on a trapper Ranger and know that you don’t need a whole lot of condition damage to be dangerous, anything 1.1k upwards is enough, really. So I thought using gear with healing as a main stat wouldn’t be hindering myself in any way.

Let me know what your thoughts are and please bear in mind I’m very new to Warrior, so mistakes may be prevalent. Thanks in advance !!

My thoughts on the trait unlocks.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I feel like what they’re trying to do is force us in to appreciating their game, which we already do. Like they’ve painted a beautiful picture and they’re upset that we’ve only looked at it for a few minutes and are now telling us any less than a day of appreciation will result in blindness.
They’ve put a lot of work in to the game, no doubt, but unlocking traits should be changed back to the way it previously was. It was progressive and you unlocked them as you leveled up. Now unlocking traits is like… Leveling on top of leveling. You reach 80, and if you haven’t unlocked all traits, you have to do even more leveling. It’s far too much work for something that should come standard with each level achieved.
I recently got a Warrior to 80 and because I decided to do most of the leveling with tomes (which if they don’t like us doing, they shouldn’t have made it an option to do) I’ve come to realize I still have a lot of work to do… I have something like 8 or 9 traits unlocked excluding minors because I haven’t accumulated enough skill points nor done enough PvEing to obtain something that is crucial to my character – build defining traits.
Basically, I understand their intention, or at least I believe that I do, but their reasoning for this addition was very short sighted. If you earn 80 levels, regardless of how you earn those levels, you shouldn’t have more work to do on top of that.

Also, on the subject of what I’d like to do to fix this… Just change it back to how it was… The way it is now is grind in it’s most unfiltered form and that is as I recall exactly what the dev’s wanted to avoid. I can tell you right now that the Warrior I have recently leveled will be the absolute last character I level thanks to this change. There’s no way I’m grinding all that garbage a second time.

Necromancer [Torch]

in Profession Balance

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I personally want Necro’s to have torches more than anything. Now, before people say it’s against the lore, I agree, so hear me out.

Torch (Mainhand):
1. Visceral Ignition “Ignite your targets from inside with a magical flame” Damage 125 Recharge (1/2s)
2. Phantom Flames “Haunt your target with a ghastly flame, causing chill and removing 1 boon if the target is already chilled” Chill duration 1 1/2s, Damage 245 (Recharge 10s)
3. Breath Of Winter “Breathe a snowy wind at your target and surrounding targets, causing chill and additional damage for each foe it hits” Chill duration 2 1/2s, Damage (x2) 220, Number of targets: 6 (Recharge 15s)

Torch (Offhand):
4. Path Of Oblivion “Slide forward leaving a trail of frozen earth behind you, knocking down foes who touch it” Damage 125, Range of slide 400units, Evade 3/4s Recharge (18s)
5. Tormented Earth “Ignite an area at your feet with a chilling flame, causing 2seconds of Torment for each second your target stands within the flame” Chill duration 1 1/2s, Damage 140 Recharge (20s)

I think a lot of these (although obviously subject to name change and damage alterations) give the Necromancer much needed utility. Such as a method of escaping combat, “Path Of Oblivion”, cleaving damage with “Visceral Ignition”, which I would envision to act similarly to swords, more debuffs and lots of access to chill allowing you to effectively keep your targets at range.

I sense a lot of “way too OP” incoming so by all means discuss what you think would be better in regards to torch skills. I understand I made a lot of these very powerful but if you look at the damage most of these attacks have very low physical damage, meaning for power builds, the torch would not be very useful – thus not allowing for a Necromancer to run Carrion and hit like an absolute semi getting crazy physical and condition damage from torch at the same time.

Turrets decap engi

in PvP

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Here’s my 2c:

I’d assume the main time you’d face off against a turret decap engineer is if they push into your home point and you’re stuck defending against it. Your best bet in this situation is to engage the engineer as far away from the node as possible and to deal damage to them as you chase them to the point. Their strength comes from having their turrets down in a confined area, and they’re not going to waste them by dropping them in roads somewhere. Just make sure you don’t get CC’d in roads and then decapped for free.

If you’re solo pushing far and trying to get a node from a decap engineer who is playing backpoint…well, you’re both doing it wrong.

The thing is, players aren’t going to play the game how you envision it to be played, and that is where the miscommunication lies between the player base and the devs. You all have this perfect idea of how the game is suppose to be played but in reality players are going to look for the most over-powered spec to do what they need to get done.

9/10 times I see a turret Engi it is a home or mid bunker, they never roam and if I see a Engi at far it is running decap or oddly enough 100nades lately. So how you envision that fight is not how in reality it will happen in a match unless you are playing the class. At the end of the day, when you are playing you are just another player trying to play the game how you see fit and the player on the otherside is doing the exact same thing for themselves. Not everyone shares the same vision as the devs in how to play the game.

As well turret engi is not a decap, it is a bunker. Yes it can decap, but it is a bunker build and thus used that way by most people I see playing it. Decap is generally running rifle/sheild with bombs and tool kit/nades with Elixer S. With a few varaints running tripple Kit with all three of those kits or a flame thrower as well.

If traited to cause turrets to launch when they are destroyed turrets can be a very good decap.

Valid points, and I mostly agree. I prefer to force the Engi in to thinking I’m going to play their game, acting committed to taking/holding the point by being aggressive with them, then pulling away from the point after they’ve set all their turrets. Some will follow, some won’t. What ever decision they make it’s the wrong one, because if they stay in the ring I’ll just kite them to death and if they leave it they don’t have a whole heck of a lot of other tricks left up their sleeves.
Also, as someone has mentioned earlier; a turret Engineer probably doesn’t have any stunbreaks. If you have access to any form of CC, abuse it and it should counter them pretty hard.

Thieves Evade spamming is Out Of Control.

in PvP

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

People don’t complain about thieves because they’re OP they make up excuses for things they think they don’t like when infact the only problem is that thieves are not fun to fight.
Thieves aren’t OP and don’t need nerfs. People just don’t know how to grasp the fact that there are very few things wrong (few, not none) with the profession itself other than that fighting a thief is in no way shape or form, fun. It’s annoying and it’s frustrating and losing to one makes you want to conclude that they are somehow OP and need to be fixed.
If you’re saying L2P, in some cases you’re right, but in most cases, you play a Thief and don’t want to admit that it’s easy to play and irritating to play against. People play games to have fun not to be aggravated by that mosquito that keeps flying by your ear at night and you can’t seem to kill.

Use Sic’m when the Thief is low on health so they can’t Shadow Refuge. Or, if you’re a zerk Ranger, although very risky to play in WvW and requires you to get the first hit, not the Thief, you can use Sic’m as soon as you spot the Thief and burst them down before they can react. o,o Really? Power build Necro’s can peg people for some pretty crazy numbers. Throw a Lich form and Well Of Suffering in the mix and you should melt face. As for condition builds, I don’t have much trouble bursting people down in WvW. As for PvE, I’m pretty sure everyone knows by now conditions suck there, but once you get a rotation down you can still do some decent damage even with conditions.
So I’m not accusing you of being bad by any means but maybe you need more practice.

Ranger downstate pet heal

Stability stomp and nobody can save that ranger.

did you even read? I was talking about downstate vs downstate, rangers are basically godmode in downstate vs downstate, heck even downstate vs 2x downstate is no problem for a ranger
I think the best would be to give every class the same downstate abilities or turn off downstate entirely in pvp, because the abilities are anything but balanced in the current state

Thieves are no better in that respect. Teleport the second before the stomp animation finishes, then stealth the second before the second stomp animation finishes and it’s next to impossible to actually spike the kitten things. I literally don’t bother to stomp thieves because of this garbage, I’d rather just condition nuke them and have them reappear dead after bleeding out.
And to clarify, I’m not saying this should be removed, or it’s OP nor am I QQing, just saying that it shouldn’t take upwards of 3 tries to stomp a Thief when with other professions it can take a maximum of 2 (see Engineer with pull and launch = 2 tries.)

Can someone explain to me why we can’t just have a new player replace the one that has left/been disconnected?
Is there something that makes this not possible in the game coding or why can’t this be the solution? No one gets dishonorable, no teams have to suffer a 4v5 and some people will get to join matches already half finished (being prompted before entering that the match has already been started) and everyone’s happy.
I understand completely that leaving a match is rude but the only reason you’re punished for it, as far as I’m concerned, is because you won’t be replaced… Otherwise I see no reason to be locked out of PvP for x amount of time.

It’s like dungeons, really… Sometimes someone disconnects and doesn’t come back, sometimes someone ragequits, sometimes someone just has to leave, etc. etc. and their place is filled. Is the new player upset that the dungeon is already half finished? In my experience, very rarely, if ever.

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Yesterday, I watched 14 people try and fail to kill a D/P perplexity Thief. These kinds of Thieves I usually prefer to avoid so instead of being a victim of the troll I decided to observe… This guy, no matter how close to dying he got, would always vanish before he crossed the 10%< mark and reappear a few seconds later with 70%>… He was never killed, just eventually made a run for it.
I crossed him shortly afterwards and wanted to see how I measured up, even if I knew it was completely one sided… So I thought before engaging, let’s make this as in my favor as possible. I equipped as many immobilizes as possible, as well as “Sic’m!” and dropped Spike Trap and Viper’s Nest at my feet. Waiting a few seconds for him to make the first move, I pegged him with a Poison Volley, he moved in, got nuked with my traps, I used Muddy Terrain to pin him down, he ported out as I thought he might, I then used Entangle followed by “Sic’m!” and proceeded to nuke his feet with traps, Bonfire from offhand torch and Throw Torch, got him to 10% of his health and what happens? He vanishes, I again nuke my feet with traps and prepare a Muddy Terrain for his reappearance but instead… I find him with 80% of his health /laughing on a hill behind me…
Now, I can admire talent, I have no problems with a talented Thief. But it’s one thing to be talented, a whole other thing to be talented with a build that doesn’t require any…
On the bright side he never killed me… Just ended up giving me another few hits and running off when I kept stacking bleeds on him. I know that’s a “win” when fighting a Thief, if they run off… But that whole D/P perplexity condition build thing is just stupid beyond words.
For the record, I don’t think stealth is “OP.” I think line of sight abuse and the ability to perpetually reset fights is. No one should have as much control over a fight as a Thief does, not even a Thief. No one should be c__ky enough to engage a dozen + people without hesitation and still have a 60% chance of escaping alive.

You can pew pew from a distance while your pet tanks which takes no effort what so ever, but the minute you find yourself against a non-AI enemy you’ll need a lot more practice as your pet will be completely ignored.
My best advice to you would be to explore the profession. Experiment with builds until you find what you like and learn that build inside and out. A skilled Ranger is one of the most powerful 1v1’ers in the game, but outside of a 1v1 your chances of success will decrease significantly. So if you’re a duelist, Ranger is a good choice, if not, you might want to reconsider.

Stealth Thieves Still OP

in WvW

Condition Engi versus condition Necro.
Engi stacks conditions on Necro, Necro stacks conditions on Engi, Necro strips boons with Well Of Corruption and/or Corrupt Boon and sends all conditions back to Engi with Plague Signet for massive lolz.

I’m a Necro and anyone who condition spams me just gets them sent right back and feared to prevent cleanse

Rolling Ranger: What race?

in Ranger

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I personally think Humans, despite some people considering them to be boring, to be the best race for a Ranger. People are hunters, it makes sense to me for a Ranger to be a human. Sylvari makes sense to me as well to a degree, but I always see Sylvari as more of an Elementalist or Necromancer race, one having to do with nature itself the other having to do with the circle of life.
Also, Rangers lack a lot of condition cleanse as you may or may not find out the hard way. Human cultural utility, Prayer To Kormir, cleanses 3 conditions so it can be pretty useful.
So yeah, my pick would have to be human. Really anything but a Charr Ranger is okay though… Charr being large talking cats, with a Jaguar pet just… Weird me out.

ranger counterattack vs pistol whip

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Well, i do have some other counters (just starting with ranger), best being Lightning reflexes, but was curios about Counterattack

Once I Lightning reflex he (thief) is sort of stuck with me, isn’t he? Nearly out of init. I should be able to interrupt healing stealth and only thing he has left is probably shadow refuge. which would allow him to reset and pull another one sequence. But then I have Protect Me.

Overall I sort of see counter play, but we’ll see. I don’t like that I have to use my utility cooldowns for someone’s regular weapon skills.

Take Signet Of The Beastmaster trait, Signet Of Stone, Protect Me! and Troll Unguent, use heal at 70 – 80% health, pop Signet Of Stone then Protect Me! proceed to laugh while regenerating health with 12seconds of invulnerability.

I may or may not get lol’d at for saying this but I find Alpha in COE to be extremely difficult if you’re not stacking. If he gets rebellious and decides to freely walk the room he can be pretty brutal what with crystallizing you and nuking you to death before the crystal breaks and all.

Lmao, I can totally imagine a disaster pug run where people are ranging him all over the place, then getting crystallized, then getting downed by the aoe, meanwhile Alpha regenerates due to poor DPS. CoE seem like it was specifically made to be stacked for, as a ranged fight is like exponentially harder due to poor DPS and more AoE circles and crystallization.

Exactly :P. COE is the dungeon I’ve run the most and as someone who always PUGs I’ve experienced some pretty horrible runs. If he decides to break the stack for what ever reason or he doesn’t get pushed in to a corner properly it usually ends up with either everyone dead or one person taking 20 minutes to solo him while everyone else has a conversation about how their day has went.
Or in P2 and 3 just after the golem boss when someone accidentally pulls the champion brute and you end up with 5 elites, a champion and Alpha all in one room T_T. So yeah, stacking Alpha is like the easiest boss in the game. Not stacking, the hardest xD, imho anyway.

Though a Thief will probably eat you for breakfast if you’re not properly skilled, a glassy Ranger using Counterattack can deal some extremely high damage. Why is there an aversion to making a group?

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I form groups often unless I’m not in the mood to tolerate bullkitten. If I didn’t have such a short temper I’d always make my own groups but unfortunately I often cannot tolerate certain individuals and will leave before my temper gets the better of me. Still, a lot of people do seem to prefer to join rather than to create groups. I can understand why but those that complain about groups they’ve joined I cannot understand. If you do not meet or agree with the requirements why would you join?

tldr; I make my own groups quite a bit but try to avoid doing so when I don’t feel I have the patience to deal with idiots (whether they be elitists, completely ignorant (though the two kind of go hand in hand) or just someone who’s intentionally gone against group requirements.)

I agree. I personally cannot stand using anything that isn’t engaging and the majority of meta builds are very boring and faceroll keyboard to win. Any time I get killed by an MM or AOE nuke Engi I just feel like asking them how they actually enjoy themselves knowing there’s no effort needed to get kills.
Though, I guess some people prefer not to have to work to win. So, more power to them but… I sure hope they never think they’re “good.”
What also irritates me is how these meta builds give their professions bad names. Like for instance if I use a Flesh Golem on my Necromancer, suddenly I’m an MM cheese.

I have names for nearly all of my pets and still remember them every time I decide to use them again ( :
Carrion (Carrion = dead flesh) Devourer: Uquedali Gisdi (Flesh eater in Cherokee)
Salamander Drake: Cinderella (Get it! Cinder-ella! Huehue)
Hyena: Chuckles

Spider: Dolores (meaning sorrow)
Jaguar: Black Virtue

Condition Ranger

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Sorry if I missed it, what is your build that (with food) you can go well over 2000 condi damage?

Full Rabid with Undead Runes + buffs (Applied Strength, Applied Fortitude, Rare Veggie Pizza, Corruption, Master Tuning Crystal) will give you very high, 2k+ condition damage. The build I’m currently using has 65% condition duration and over 2.1k condition damage with all my buffs. I’m still somewhat stuck on whether I want to invest further in to duration or damage mind you because my traits are currently 4/6/4/0/0 and there are things in both Marksmanship and Wilderness Survival that I want but can’t have without giving something up.
Anyway though as has been stated, investing everything in to one stat can work but you have to know how to keep the pressure on for it to be effective. Otherwise you’ll lose out on a lot of your DPS.

Torment sigil and runes?

SpellOfIniquity.1780

Thank you, good to know. I wasn’t sure because there was already a set value for the torment duration on the sigil ( 5seconds ) So I wasn’t sure if the runes would modify this or not, and since I had wanted to use this on a Ranger I have no other access to Torment outside of the sigil.
I think I’ll avoid using the runes though, the sigil is fine as is. I was just curious how much more I could pump out of that condition but with how little a difference the runes will make I don’t think it’s worth sacrificing my Nightmare runes.
Thanks again!

This is just something I threw together so I can’t guarantee it’ll be incredibly effective. But given that you seem to be shooting for something on the defensive side with offensive capability, and that it also seems to be directed towards WvW, I thought this might make sense.
A ton of toughness so physical damage shouldn’t be a huge concern. All your utilities and a lot of your traits can be changed as you please, I just designed this as how I would use it if I were going to be using this build.
Because condition damage isn’t a main stat (or one at all) on Knight’s armor, Undead runes synergize really well with the high toughness in Knights and the secondary toughness stat in Rabid. Which will mean you’ll have a good balance of defense (mind you low vitality) and offense through condition damage and power/precision. Fortunately Rangers make good use of hybrids so if you decide to run a trapper build you should hit quite hard. Traps are pretty nasty if they have more than just condition damage behind them, throw some power in to the mix and those will hurt. So I could very much suggest taking Spike Trap and/or Viper’s Nest with you.

Can you nerf conditions already?

in PvP

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I’m not sure where people are getting this idea that conditions can’t be dodged or mitigated.

You can dodge conditions exactly the same as you can dodge power attacks, not sure why people think you can’t.

Additionally each condition applies a set amount of damage, it is just distributed differently. people complain that scepter auto attack applies bleed for a necro. Yes it does. It does 150 base damage plus kitten bleed. Assuming they have a full glass cannon condition build that is a 10s bleed with approximately 200/s tick. that is a total of 2k dmg spread over 10 seconds. Are you saying that other classes auto attacks can’t reach 2k dps? because i’m pretty sure d/d thieves can hit upwards of 3k dps with auto attack if they are zerker. pretty sure warrior can do the same.

Of course in addition to all the standard mitigation (block, dodge, invuln, etc) you can also stop those attacks with condition immunities, cleanses, boon conversion and condition transfers.

That isn’t to say there aren’t specific builds that are OP. Engineers seem a little over the top because they have all the condition spam in addition to great direct damage and defense. But that is a general balance issue not a condition issue.

PvE Dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

I remember this kind of thing in DCUO and people would either harass you for duels or mock you until they found something better to do if you declined. IMHO it only fuels those with an over inflated ego from winning too many duels to become even more self absorbed and kitteny. I would be okay with designated areas where dueling could take place, such as Heart Of The Mists for example. But open world I would be totally against.

I find it hard to believe that in GW2, where you are generally one of 20-50 players participating in an open world event, someone is going to single YOU out of everybody and attempt to duel you or harass you. It is possible, in the context of a fantastic story crafted to support your argument on the forums, but in reality it is very unlikely that someone will pick you out, unprovoked, and harass you only because you didn’t want to duel.

It’s wonderful to have the ability to duel people anywhere in the open world, but once the novelty has worn off you will find people who are REALLY interested in dueling (you know, the duel-pro, try-hards you fear so much) will congregate in commonly known “dueling areas” (like outside of SW or Org in WoW). If you are standing near one of those areas, you are much more likely to get duel requested.

But anywhere else in the world, what are the odds someone will actually duel request you? And beyond that, what are the odds that the person that requests the duel will actually go further on the harass you because you declined?

I find it interesting that you mentioned harassment in DCU. When i played the game had an auto-decline feature, and apparently now it has an “opt-in” to duel feature. The potential for harassment will be there for ANYTHING that can be implemented in game, that is a given. So, in order to combat this inevitability, you need to add measures to prevent and retaliate against harassment, which in the context of your harassment situation, you did not take advantage of any of the tools available to you.

Complaining about harassment is the last bastion of anyone without a real argument. If that is the only reason you can come up with to combat the request for duels, then you must have exhausted all other good arguments. You could literally look at any suggestion, or any new potential feature and say “oh no this would lead to abuse!” Well of course, it would.

As long as two players can communicate between each other, there will always be a potential for abuse. There is no room for growth if you get stuck on the constant, inevitable consequence of players being able to interact with each other. If the goal was to eliminate abuse, MMOs or multiplayer games wouldn’t exist. You have to get past that and come up with ideas on how to limit, prevent, and counter abuse.

I’m not concerned about what’s done to me as an individual I’m concerned about the GW2 community. You can say it’s unlikely if you wish but that doesn’t change the fact that someone will have to tolerate this kind of behavior and I don’t think anyone should have to. It’s just a form of superiority and bullying that this game doesn’t need.
If there are designated areas where people can duel that is completely fine. But open world is not. Not everyone wants to participate in duels and the ones that don’t and just so happen to be asked to may be scrutinized for denying a request and harassed because “if you don’t want to play the game go somewhere else.”
So again, I don’t care what happens to me as an individual if this sort of thing were introduced to the game, but there are others I would be concerned for… Some people have soft hearts and despite a few harsh words seeming childish to some, to others it may seriously hurt them.

16 Lost matches in a row

in PvP

Posted by: SpellOfIniquity.1780

SpellOfIniquity.1780

In that case, with what at least a few people have said, is my strategy okay?:
I’m a Necromancer, 6/6/0/0/2 Rabid amulet with pretty hefty damage and can generally maintain myself even without having a substantial amount of HP. I begin by capping home, always, because I have no mobility in my traits or utility bar. I then move to mid to help anyone who’s fighting there and continue to bounce between home and mid for the majority of the match.
Also, for future reference, I’m talking about tPvP as it’s all I’ve really done since I began PvPing (which only started about a few weeks to a month ago.) Prior to starting PvP I was (and still am a lot more often than I PvP) a WvW solo roamer. So as far as I’m concerned the losses have nothing to do with my competence in a fight although I’d be willing to accept there may be things about PvP I’ve yet to learn as I’ve only recently started.

Still, it’s good to see there are many others here who have had similarly lengthy losing streaks. I can honestly say I’m by no means a PvP veteran but I’m pretty sure I understand the basics. The majority of the groups I had gotten that day clearly did not. And the ones that did understand, were just horrible group compositions… At one point I had gotten a group that was all thieves and we got absolutely demolished. It was actually one of the worse matches of the many I lost that day.
