Right now sitting in Claypool I’m using 1.2GB, now if this is a 32bit game with Large-address Aware it should work to ~3.5GB, if not, it’s like 2GB or 2.5GB.
Only on a 64bit operating system, and its closer to 3780MB that it hits the limit at.
On a 32bit operating system its around 1800MB, but by the point it reaches 1750, its probably going to crash the next time you change area’s.

no, you cannot disable the intel chip in optimus laptops.
Sonvil, what are your settings in the nvidia control panel?
I have a potential cause for the heat, after doing some testing with the umbra gpu command switch.
The graphics card is rendering everything in the scene!, there is almost practically no culling occuring apart from players on screen.

that really looks like a bug that Intel recently fixed in the HD drivers, thats why im asking :|

The cpu method shouldn’t crash your pc,
but i think i have an idea of whats going on with the weird gpu load now,
With the cpu method the game is not culling occluded objects properly resulting in the gpu rendering everything in the area. letting the gpu handle it is dropping the intensity on the cpu and letting the gpu only render whats actually in the field of view.
So its 1 part recent patch, and still could be a graphics card thats not fully stable at full load.

Depends on the sub-vendor, and they will often know if you ran a burn test on the card. Some will void warranty if you do >.<

with the latest patch, is the game even running on the 540m?, i’ve seen a couple of others reporting it is using the Intel IGP only!.
They aren’t going to answer you, they have better things to do. (like working on the fix)
Its your computer(s). Now open your minds long enough so that we can figure out why.
Sonendo, Gazza, Streffan get out of this thread and create your own, I’m not going to address Me too’s in any of my responses in this thread.
Torreto, grab evga precision or msi after burner and enable the logging function of the statistics server.
Configure it to log all the data sources from the graphics card.
Also upload some quick reports from aida64’s Overclock and GPU screens
You other 3, do the same when posting your own threads.

GTX 570, i5 2500k
Before the last two updates I had no issues with fps drops or lags and I could play smoothly in WvW zerg vs zerg massacre.
Using the same graphics driver and after gw2 updates, I get fps drops just moving my camera around in arcs in pve and it’s unplayable in wvw. Sometimes it causes a blue screen or pc to black out after playing for a while.
your computer is unstable, find and read one of the trillion TDR cause and fixes articles online and start working through it.
I wouldn’t put it past your GTX 570 needing to be underclocked with the newer drivers though.
Please Search
EU would have the least.
It doesn’t matter what games don’t cause the Card to TDR. A TDR is always an instability in the Driver or the Hardware itself. Since many others are using that driver with that card (at reference clocks) then that only leaves the differences between them.
Do you know how many times a person has posted to a random forum on the internet that random game a pushes their gpu over the brink while random game b c and d all work fine.
I could link you to a thread full of people getting this sort of problem in new games on the nvidia forums on their vendor overclocked graphics cards. The underclock rule always applies if a game is unstable on newer(or older) drivers.

What a bunch of Bollocks :p Where do u people get this stuff from? At least do some minimal research before u post on something. A i5 and i7 of the same line, have the exact same architecture (sandy-bridge, ivy…).
good job at comboing that looking foolish and validating my post in the same instance
The differences are by removing and shifting some features around, those features mainly are targeted towards servers or professional applications. If u check the i3->i5->i7 features u clearly see this.
Which -
1. Makes the difference PHYSICAL
2. MAKES THEM COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHIPS
(edited by Squall Leonhart.2075)
try running gw2.exe with the -umbra gpu command line
interesting, i just tried with -umbra gpu and while it does increase gpu usage from 72 to 80%, it also increased the first core from 44 to 54% average. However the combined cpu usage did not increase from its 15-22% range.

Theres also another thread specifically with a GTX 660 non ti doing the same thing
I believe the cards are throttling for some reason with the new driver.
Reduce the boost target for the time being using evga precision or use an older driver.

I’ll research those tools. Most of the common memtest utilities only use a basic write and read back test pattern using random access or contiguous, which isn’t all that taxing to the memory controller at all. I was using the usual tools when overclocking my cpu and video card, but, passed them all. And then crashed when tried Aida64’s MemBW test.
You’d probably get a heavier load on the IMC by using multiple instances of Luxmark, though i believe they prevent that to prevent Mutex collisions.
At the end of the day… theres always OCCT you could try, but i don’t recomend it. Too many 570’s die using that, melting the mosfets.
you guys realise online petitions aren’t worth the webspace they are written on right?
i expect a russian localisation was always in the plans
you can delete those screenshots mate, the dxdiag log has all that information
I can see your Radeon drivers have not been updated since July, you can try updating to the latest to rule the driver out.
More information is required.
dxdiag log
gpu-z screenshots(gpu-z in your case) and card vendor name
System components (and any overclocking information)

Since your so knowledgeable about gw2 performance explain to me. Why peoples with lower spec can play this game with higher fps then some peoples?
This is typically not the case, but the experience of a few users, almost always makes it seem like it is. Believe me, the people here claiming as such are outnumbered by a factor of 1000 by people who aren’t having such issues.
First things first. If this is a matter of optimisations being neglected, a low end cpu will never do better than a higher end cpu. That is, an AMD cpu simply cannot out perform a Core i nahalem and higher processors where optimisations are neglected. AMD cpu’s crave code optimisations (they prefer machine code actually) to make up for their branch and execution pipe restrictions
The reason for the lower FPS in the latest patch seems to be some kind of change to the Graphics engine.
CrossFire enabled cards are taking major hits atm, which may(likely will) require a new CAP update.
Optimus enabled laptops are also failing to switch to the nVidia device, though i was unable to reproduce that on the 630m i have handy (there may be something else at play!?)
There is always reasons for these things, that are not explicitly a fault in the game. Or, they can be a acceptable regression caused by code that is currently undergoing refactoring for design, readability or future enhancement.
I can’t say for sure, but some of the performance hit may be caused by ongoing changes to the graphics engine. Someone may have attempted to multithread a function and increased cpu usage (and reduced gpu usage) as a result.
Explain to me why peoples during beta and in previous patch had higher performance then post patch?
Theres a possibility that the PGO profiles need to be regenerated, or that a current refactoring of code is going on which requires that optimisations be lowered a bit to prevent complete unplayability in the mean time.
Explain to me why my game run at around 40 to 60fps most of the time then suddenly i get inside an empty room and my fps drop to 25fps ?
Can you post some screenshots of the room in question? Theres a possibility a dynamic light or shadow source is updating to much.
Tell me how come only reducing shadow and reflection give an fps boost while all other graphic setting barely do any different fps wise? And this without mentioning lowering resolution to 1024×728 have zero impact on performance.
Now this one i do have experience with. Shadows, dynamic shadows in particular, have always been the bane of a video game.
Dynamic shadows are one of several effects that are dependant on decent cpu performance, as typically, the batch updates are frequent and not especially optimisation friendly. DirectX usage guidelines usually have a recommendation to batch 1000 primatives average.
Direct3D is optimized for large batches of primitives. The more polygons that can be sent in a single call, the better. A good rule of thumb is to aim to average 1000 vertices per primitive call. Below that level you’re probably not getting optimal performance, above that and you’re into diminishing returns and potential conflicts with concurrency considerations (see below).
You either get realtime shadow updates and a fair amount of cpu usage, or you get shadow changes that are delayed a few frames and just don’t look very natural. (I’m sure you’ve seen the latter in Skyrim if you’ve played it).
As for Reflections, Water reflections specifically, the game doesn’t seem to handle these well at all. Looking towards any body of water the framerate takes a dip, even if you can’t see the water at in the distance.
You have to be serious here, this game run off the modified gw1 engine, using dx9 technologie, game have very low polygon count and 2d sprite same as gw1.
Skyrim didn’t really up the polygon count over Oblivion, but still requires a far beefier system to max out
.
If i had to take a guess, I expect a major performance improving patch in the near future will be released.
Yes i understand that having alot of spells effect and player models use alot of cpu ressource, but this engine is no where near demanding for a top of the line pc. Peoples with High end intel/amd with 600$ video should be running this game at a steady 100fps with barely any drop below 60fps and its not even the case here.
I don’t disagree at all. Which is why i expect the current performance problems right now, are the lead up to something good coming
.

Edit: just tested 306.23Whql, more stable (very less noticable, micro microstutter)
Seems to be a combination of latest patch (hotfix 11-10/wonky 306.97Whql drivers)
just a fyi people, since the nvidia forums are dead still, notify your card vendor if the new drivers make things unstable.
the vendors often have support personal who are in direct communication with nvidia.
More luck of getting a response if you generated a diag log using -diag command switch

I apologise, i took an an amount of frustration out on you stemming from a RL argument. (a computer i maintain was just trashed by a power user taking things into their own hands instead of calling me to take a look)
I assume a Anet moderator will want a diagnostic log, which you can generate by running gw2 with the -diag command switch
Where have you installed the game to btw, installing in program files may cause problems when it tries to update the launcher.
There is also the possibility of a corrupt local cache, you can try renaming local.dat in my documents\guild wars 2 to rule this out.

It started with one game, then you
I have tried cleaning my registry, turning off antivirus, editing/rollingback/updating nvidia drivers, uninstalling with revo
which now, who knows how screwed your system is.
wouldn’t surprise me if various class keys now have screwed up permissions
That’s the equivalent of saying press alt-f4 in game for free gold.
You failed analogy-101, didn’t you.
Sorry, why are you on this forum?
Why are you wasting our time with a problem that’s probably created by the operator?
You should ALWAYS diagnose before trying to fix stuff blindly.
Anyway, for anyone that actually wants to try and get you out of this mess, they’ll need the crash log and error code

Optimus and Crossfire are nuked in this patch somehow, some way.
delete local.dat from my documents\guild war 2 and then start gw2.exe with the -repair command switch
You are not the only one. I can prove it is GW2.
No, you can’t. What you can prove is that GW2 utilises the graphics card harder than other titles which -OMG- results in heat!
My case is open with great airflow
Your airflow is completely kittened when the side panels are off. Thermodynamic engineers are shaking their head at you in disappointment right now.
I have not had any other game that I have played cause this issue.
I take it you never played Metro 2033 or The Witcher 2 with ubre sampling
I am using the latest Nvidia drivers for my Factory overclocked 465GTX.
Its a power guzzling space heater.
remove the heatsink and replace the most likely badly applied silicon grease with some decent silver paste.

Anything less than a HD2000 will be subpar for this title.
the difference between i5 and i7 is physical, they are completely different chips.

If your computer is new, has it had Service Pack 1 on it at any point?
There is a hotfix included in the service pack that resolves a source of TDR’s when graphics hardware is heavily loaded
though unfortunately i can’t even find the relevant KB article from the list of included hotfixes, can’t remember the search terms needed to find it.
(edited by Squall Leonhart.2075)
then underclock?
could be a problem with the usb headphones drivers

do a clean install of windows
this is what you get for cleaning the registry.
reset your router, and winsock configuration
i wish people would stop comparing games of different graphics load and claiming one is faulty because it uses more of the hardware than the other.
the graphics card is designed to operate at 100% gpu and imc load, if the temps are too hot, then something needs checking on the card or the chassis.

If you run 3d mark vantage, if your system is unstable, it should hardlock on you as well. I would give that a try.
3dmark2003 back in the day was pretty good at demonstrating unstable overclocks xD
but these days, the benchmarks don’t even take much advantage of the memory controller. Theres not enough frequently changing framebuffer updates to really stress the card.

How can you tell me that information is inconclusive? It’s simple logic. No other game I have tested hangs my system, regardless of configuration. Guild Wars 2 does.
Other games aren’t GW2, other games don’t drive the gpu and imc to the heavy usage that gw2 does. Thus, any conclusion that the game is at fault, is a completely flawed belief and will be disregarded by anyone with any background in beta testing and diagnostics.
No I do not have a PS2 handy. And if that is the case, then please name me a game that does tax the memory controller adequately enough according to you. I’ll run that and see if it hangs. If it does, /then/ we can start talking hardware faults.
The Witcher 2, with ubre sampling enabled.
Further; if the memory controller failing is indeed what is causing these hangs, then this does not explain why running the game on lowest detail settings (thus using smaller textures and less gpu memory) still causes these crashes. Surely by that stage, memory usage cannot possibly be significantly more than a game such as Just Cause 2 or Batman: Arkham City.
Well the IMC/VRM was just a potential reason. There are people using exactly the same hardware as you without these problems, which is why its not possible to blanket blame the drivers, and/or the game. Games are only as stable as the drivers talking to the hardware, which are then only as stable as the hardware itself. You would be more likely to see a General Exception or Illegal Memory Access error with a game bug, not a full system crash.
The biggest problem to finding a solution is all the me too’s you will obviously get in this kind of thread, when these problems are as unique as the users system personalisations. You can’t just cram a bunch of people with problems in a thread. All tech support and warranty claims are handled individually for this reason.
I am pretty tired of coming on this forum and hearing the same old same old from those peoples that consider them self improvised computer tech
What you’re really tired of, is having reality shoved in your face when you would choose to remain in your fantastical delusions.
saying oh your cpu is a bottleneck, oh this game need a very good cpu, oh this and kitten is not good.
I don’t think you understand how important the cpu is when feeding irregular batches of graphical data to the GPU for processing. In most cases the performance problems are Low gpu usage because the engine and physics are choking the Graphics thread(s). Which often execute on the same core as the engine.
Have you red the requirement for this game? Why peoples with system that exceed 5 times the game requirement cannot even get a steady 30 fps?
I’m not sure you understand what Minimum Requirements actually means.
its the minimum spec hardware to get the game into a playable state. It does not imply a framerate to your expectation.
While some peoples running 7years old notebook can run this game smooth. Stop spreading lies and misinformation to peoples saying your cpu is a bottleneck when its above pc requirement for the game. The game itself is badly coded and is not using hardware ressource properly right now, i really hope Anet manage to sort out the problem.
I think you need to consult your doctor, these delusions are a sign of a mental health problem.
Or maybe Anet lied about pc requirement for the game to increase sales, i hope i am wrong.
Bordering on libel there mate.

Back the factory overclock off. its probably been barely stable this entire time and the new driver working the hardware harder is pushing it over the edge.
