Bumping for truth/fact of life.
Its because you have a 32bit operating system. The game quickly consumes 2ishGB of virtual addressing and as this is the limit in 32bit windows, crashes out.
you can use bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072 to increase the user mode address space to 3GB, but this decreases the kernel address space to 1GB.
I doubt this should cause you a problem on your laptop though. so give it a try.

good to hear lolmont, Surprising how a low voltage can affect 1 game and not others, isn’t it.
Brazileirobr, given burnmark didn’t crash you, you should check your cpu’s configuration.
Install service pack 1 and all the recent updates
These are needed for any support requests.
also install the DirectX June 2010 Redistributable

Im still wondering what’s gonna happen after today’s patch, maybe the “fix” or just make it worse
today’s patch seems to have improved the verbosity of the crash logs.

The GPU is a design from 2006
run windows update, update everything that shows up, as available, that should get you the platform updates.
the platform update sometimes is listed under Optional components. No idea why. It happens fairly often that a completely up to date vista sp2 does not have the graphics platform package installed :|

And wow, it looks like someone read what i said about including the module involved in the c0000005 crash…. it wasn’t including it before….

your crash is caused by the Rivatuner overlay server.
1. Don’t use the original rivatuner, it is no longer maintained (if you are)
2. Install the very latest versions of Msi afterburner, or EVGA Precision.
It’s not your hardware. It’s this game. I have this problem too but ONLY with GW2. I play lots of other games for extended periods of time and none of them do this. Don’t waste your time doing hardware tests. This isn’t a new problem either. I’ve never seen any official acknowledgement of it or advice so it’s pretty depressing. I can only play for about 5 minutes before it happens and I have to reboot.
Take your ignorance and leave.
If you’re not willing to approach the problem with an open mind then nobody wants to hear your moaning (in threads other than your own)
i would be surprised if there was much hand written SSE optimisation at all.

Best Appearance settingGetting 35fps in WvW. 15fps zerg/gates. 40-45fps Qwesting alone.
CPU Load: avg 55%, peak 88%
GPU Load: avg 40%, peak 80%GW2 is clearly not optimized or fully using my CPU or GPU. Looking at the attached load % graphs, it usually hovers barely half. Other games I play would push GPU loads to constant 90%+. For some reason GW2 only uses about 40%.
55% is correct, its 2 and a bit (upwards to half a) cores.
it is only multicore optimised for 2 and a half cores so your cpu will not pass this cpu usage. The rest of it is your cpu is bottlenecking the GPU, which is why its not getting a high usage.
There are 2 resolutions.
1. Overclock the cpu so it processes more and sends commands faster to the gpu
or
2. Wait and hope the game is optimised(fixed) so that its less work to process from the cpu.
I found that while testing my CPU with Prime95 it would continually drop it’s multiplier down to about half of what it should be. So it would drop from 4 Ghz to about 2. It did this over an over every few seconds. I can only imagine that would mess with games as well. The culprit is Advanced Power Management (APM), which I simply went into the BIOS and turned off. Clocks are now rock solid.
I don’t see what APM has to do with it, but it would have been quicker to set windows to the high performance power profile >.>
In any case, it doesn’t work. Starting the game with and without the command makes no difference.
Sorry, What?
Using this command line made my fps drop by about 20-25, why’s that?
Maybe its a case of you’re doing it wrong Skyliner

According to Steam’s hardware survey, majority STILL uses dual core, which is a bit shocking- I’ve used quad cores since 2009 or so when they first hit the market.
AMD and laptops takes a good portion of the blame here.
please explain if this games so cpu hungery why isnt it even coming close to using my cpu fully, let alone the 970x and 980x chips friends of mine have?
A multithreaded application doesn’t need to use all cores to be reaching a bottleneck on the cpu. Adding up the cpu usage and factoring in thread load balancing, the game uses 2 and a half cores at the most.
I expect cpu culling and physics are throttled by the engine load in the first cores.
A threaded application that isn’t multi core optimised would be more impacted by load balancing, that is, on a 4 core cpu, 25% of each core would be used to add up to 100% load. This would mean the game is at it the fullest possible load, yet the cpu is only loaded 25% all up.

Back then the phenom II was the best price/performance cpu by far.
never has this been the case. an i7 920 setup can be had for exactly the same price and leaves it in the dust.
Not sure where you get that information but the phenom was atleast 2 times cheaper then the i7 if not more…
Off more then enough online stores.
a 920 is …. hell these days a 950 is the same price as a 965 was
I wonder where your from cause the cheapest i7 950 according to pricewatch (holland) is 235 Euro atm! 2 years ago it was between 400-600 euro’s … back then the AMD phenom II was some where around 150 euro.
So in the Netherland the price/performance was beter on the Phenom II 965 2 years ago…
Erm, i wouldn’t get a Phenom II cpu for 150 and be proud of my purchasing decision. It would be one of the crappier dual or tri cores and be kittened inthe clock speed. I was referring to the x4 965 (which is out performed by the 920, and priced comparably).
The only reason why the 965 is that cheap now, is because of
1. oversaturated stocking.
2. AMD can’t push crapdozers while the superior Phenom II’s are still available.
that 920 is 300 because its out of production, and stock is extremely limited. (prices are actually rising)
You can usually pick a 950 up at a bundling discount for $200 + the costs of the mainboard.
You don’t pay 100 for a cpu and expect the performance of a 200+ cpu.

If you target OpenGL and OpenAL-SW you have video and sound covered under most drivers (short for intel graphics prior to the hd1000)
Input api’s…. is a disaster
a full system freeze, i would usually attribute to a VCCIO voltage being to low
For the record, VCCIO is the equivalent of the x58’s QPI/DRAM or QPI/VTT (The voltage of the IMC itself, not the dram driving voltage, which is 1.35 or 1.5v on the Vengeance)
If you had filled all sata and usb slots, it could be PCH/IOH needing a slight boost. But i don’t see this from your specs to be the case.
Since you are using all 4 slots, my first step would be to give the VCCIO some more juice. Increase it to 1.1v (default 1.05v)

I’ve looked at Asus’s p9 mainboards, and haven’t seen any i would risk buying. They’ve all got dodgy power circuitry.
the difference in the quality on the ROG mainboards (Rampage series) is actually surprising, to some extent, but validates the price difference.
I avoid Gigabyte mainboards at all costs.
Biostar’s mid and top end are actually quality stuff now.
Can’t say i have much experience with evga mainboards, but i do prefer them for video cards.

a definite hardware fault in some part of the computer.
We’re past the point of it being a simple file system error now, its either physical failure of the disk(s) or another component. Given its a freeze, Dram, CPU Cache or PCH/ICH are the points to test.
but that still doesnt make sense to me ive played games with more high end graphics or whatever then GW2 and they ran just fine so i dont understand this
the difference is in IPC.
netburst processors used very long pipes and had a high cache miss rate resulting in lower clocked processors with better designs outperforming the chips by miles.

It does not mean your memory isn’t faulty, if memtest passes.
But its more likely to be a issue with the configuration of the memory controller and dram timings.
The varying crashes does imply a hardware issue, either configuration wise or hardware itself.
if you read the thread/topic all the way down you will see, even intels most up to date compiler pulls this crap of intentionally crippling any chip thats not got an intel cpuid, with via you can easily change the cpuid to that of an intel chip and gain a HUGE boost in perf……
so its not all about amd being inferior design wise, but also the fact that most benches seem to be compiled with intels compiler set to create exe’s that detect the cpuid and send different code paths based on that(rather then feature flags that would be more fair)
Really? That’s some crazy BS, that reminds me of when websites operated like crap on Mozilla/Firefox but ran great on IE. Same for iPad browser compared to Android browser, and making the Android browser flag as Safari or IE just made the webpage respond better…
um… stop spreading misleading information.
GW2 isn’t built with ICC in the first place, and theres certainly no dispatcher used that would sabotage AMD performance in this game.
AMD is slow because its a bad design (and because the latest client is loading the cpu heavier), not for any other reasons then that.
Aida64 doesn’t use ICC either >.>

Sorry, but DriverFusion doesn’t remove anything that the nvidia drivers own uninstaller can’t. Unlike the Catalyst package, which leaves behind a bunch of processes…..

download process explorer, enable the Lower Pane view in the view menu and set it to display loaded dll’s and select the gw2 process in the top list
screenshot the bottom view.
or
when the crash occurs, select the gw2 process, click the Process menu and click Create Minidump then upload it.
add the game as a non steam game and use the steam overlay / screenshots
is that crucial on the latest ssd firmware

the screen would flicker and then just freeze and go black. The cursor would still be there though, and the music would still be playing. I’m not very good with like computer stuff, but I believe I have an nVidia GeForce GTX 660m.
This is classic TDR, though you’re one of the lucky ones since it didn’t crash the system in the process. Since its a laptop gpu, monitor the temperatures with hwmons onscreen display. Precision and Afterburner do not work properly o laptop chips and Unwinder in his usual arrogance, refuses to do anything about it.

switch the monitor to the other card so it uses it as the default output device and see if it freezes again.
if it doesn’t, one of your cards is just not as solid as the other.
aha, so it is. my bad
Intel CPU’s just simply brute-force there way to the better FPS. l.
This.
AMD’s recent cpu’s are just not up to performance standards.
with the latest patch, the game is failing to use the nvidia gpu in some cases
under region and languages, click the keyboard and languages tab and add the language you want under change keyboards
those white dots are usually a sympton of the vram being clocked too high.
um.. lol the forum is censoring graphic card numbering now.

ouch, thats fairly pricey.
you probably would’ve payed less for a 16GB Vengeance/Vengeance LP kit
Got nothing to do with the bios. Its all a trick using special PCI-E Coprocessor that redistributes the lanes on a PCI-E bus.
this was often used on the mainboard itself to extend pci-e lanes for tri sli.
the PCI-E 2 version was usually an NF200, the 690 uses a PCI-E 3.0 compliant chip (which fixes a bunch of issues the nf200 had)
Heres a picture of the nf200 on the GTX 295

How am I supposed to add the “-umbra gpu” command line to my target line? When I try to apply the changes, it tells me that the location specified in the target line doesn’t exist, so what am I supposed to do? I’d appreciate some assistance, thanks
command switches are added after the quotation wrapped path
“d:\games\gw2\gw2.exe” -umbra gpu for example

It could have been the dram was incompatible iwth the motherboard (it can happen)
or the auto set timings weren’t good for the rest of the system.
What did you end up buying?
why is MSIMG32.dll in temp
its a system dll hmmmmmmm
anyway, clear your temporary files "winkey+r > temp hit ok
and delete anything in there that will allow you to (some files may be in use by running software)

i was speaking based on the information available at the time, low fps is often a heavily loaded gpu issue. In the case of nvidia’s cards, it could be the d3d9 recompiler at fault or a complete lack of culling, which now seems to be the real problem.
would be nice if the gw2 crash log included the module in the crash, since more often then not its some rogue dll or a bad hook from dxtory, or kaspersky security.
would be nice to know what kind of graphics card is in that.
but i already expect its some intel gma crap by the completely broken alpha blending.
