They’re just kind-of-stronger-than-everyone-else people that happened to be at the right place when some important world changing events happened. Then decided to stick around to find more events. Just like the PC, whose only real claim to fame is being a murder machine. Which apparently is all you need to qualify for 2nd in command in one of the largest forces in Tyria.
But now you can’t hear which roses have thorns! Or where they are.
Ruined the game? I wouldn’t go that far. I mean, the expansion itself wasn’t as good as what people were expecting, if the many negative forum posts are any indication, ( I know I expected more) but in the overall scheme of things, I don’t think it really changed a whole lot in the core game. And HoT was a bit grindy and repetitive at times, but it wasn’t bad enough to ruin the entire GW2 experience. And who knows, maybe it will get better. The last two updates had overwhelmingly positive responses, which is a first since HoT launched. Hopefully Anet learned what they did right/wrong in the past and can move forward in a way most people can enjoy.
That’s a good point. We need both of those things.
What I don’t understand is why we have so many complicated recipes combining foods that should never be together, but no one bothered to make pancakes. What kind of cruel world doesn’t have pancakes?!
After all Aaron said, they eventually decided rotted retired boats were cute for a pirate theme, but didn’t make for a very defensible city. So they decided on more concrete structures.
You’d think the Asura would be able to do a Tyria equivalent of gender reassignment surgery or something. For people looking for a more…I guess solid solution than just using mesmer illusions. They were the explanation for the “Total Makeover” in GW1, in which you (the PC) can change your gender, and as far as I know, they managed to never botch a surgery.
I also don’t know how canon that service was. It may have just been a fun kind of throwaway explanation for how you can change your appearance, but wasn’t really meant to be taken seriously.
There’s a reason this thread died in August (before you necro’d it). And that reason is that a lot of people request a lot more than just zerker smash builds. The metas and party searches are now flooded with conditions, tanks, and even the odd healer. You must be pretty unlucky if you’re still only seeing people request zerker only teams.
I wonder if Asura really worry about Taimi being a kid like other races would. As a human, a child on the battlefield is just absurd, because “Mah babehs!” It’s a natural response to make us invest in raising our young. But do Asura have that kind of emotional attachment? I mean, I’m sure the asura would much rather send adults into the world and afford at least some protection for their children, but to what degree? Maybe to the Asura, Taimi being a kid in danger is just “mildly upsetting” but logically feasible given her ability (and killer robot). Is there any information on that? I noticed they tend to call their young “progeny”, which is a pretty cold and un-affectionate word for a child. Even the Charr, who make it a tradition to send their kids into war units, affectionately call their young “kits”. But I don’t know if that’s really any kind of evidence of a lack of caring about children.
As for why the other Biconics are perfectly fine with a sickly child coming to battle with them, I don’t know. I guess it’s just something they had to accept begrudgingly.
I don’t need your logic ruining my snarky, probably self-righteous cynicism! >:o
There are a lot of GW2 players with degrees in economics or business management.
I was hoping no one would notice!
Anyone notice the additional ley-line events that occur in tandem with the ones from last week? Someone mentioned them on reddit. One is west of Valslake WP in Snowden drifts, one is west of Judgement WP in Mount Maelstrom and north of Brandview WP in Blazeridge Steppes.
I completed these additional events, but they’re exactly like the old ones and give no additional things that I’ve noticed.
Because this sloth back piece has some intimidating arms. It looks like it would spend its time doing pull ups behind my back. And normal sloths don’t have elbow spikes, leaving me to believe this is some specially trained battle-sloth. He should be sporting an eye-patch and a cigar and talk like Snake Plissken.
The staff is The Crossing. And the 2014 movie wasn’t my idea. I had some PR people. They said some things. I was stressed that year. Long story short, they were fired. Gave them a wonderful fruit basket and sent them on their way
African or European Swallow?
I was talking to you xD But I figured my post would just get ignored, as it probably should have. And also because I didn’t come here just to tell him his opinion doesn’t matter.
This whole thread shows us two facts. Most of us are already beyond inclusive of LGBT people, and don’t need a lesson in PC culture. We accept you. Help us kill dragons in fictional lands.
Those who aren’t are clearly not ready for whatever lesson your trying to teach them. And it’s not your place to set their values anymore than they should tell you yours. In Tyria, there is no agenda for trans or straight anything. Everyone is happy to just leave it that way.
What about the creepier line “I know your face from my dream!”
Because I dream.
About your faaaaaace O.O
I’m sure there are some internal struggles. As there are with literally any big life decision. Starting a family, getting married, buying a house. But we don’t usually talk about these personal boring details in a video game because they’re boring personal details.
And it’s even more particular when dealing with trans issues. Because while everyone at some point can relate to things like home ownership, only a very few people can relate to the personal issues of gender reassignment. Why even bother making it an issue in the story when most people will just never relate? You may end up making like 10-12 people think “Man, this really hits home. Thanks Anet”, but inversely make 1283721831 people think “Why do I care about your gender identity? You’re supposed to be helping me kill things.” and even a few people who feel, no matter what you say, that the trans issue is being “forced”
Long story short, you’ll offend far more people than you’ll help. Too risky a move for an entertainment business.
“The story could detail the struggles that a transgender person in the world of Tyria,” is the most problematic line in your original post, regarding this issue.
You can’t detail the struggles of a transgender person in Tyria because there literally are none. No one cares at all that she used to be a man. No one is giving her a hard time about it. And no one stopped her from doing it. It’s exactly the way it should be. I’d say we already have all the inclusion possible.
If we were to include a trans person into the main story, you’d have to give a good reason why. And you’d have to pretty much never mention his/her trans status. Our current heroes don’t introduce themselves as “Hi. I’m Brahm, and I am a heterosexual!”. Because we really don’t care in what configuration he decides to do the moist macarena. He’s an adult. He can make his decisions. And telling us about his decisions for no reason makes people think he’s pushing some cis-male (or generic tumblr variant word) agenda. Its the same with any trans person. Don’t bother telling us you’re trans, because we don’t care. Your surgically modified sex organs won’t help me kill a dragon.
I hope. I don’t know, we have a lot of dragons we don’t know about. But that’d be weird, right?

The only real solution is to just not participate in talks you don’t want to discuss. This is a public forum, and is open to public topics. There’s no need to censor things to that degree. Just accept that sometimes people talk about things you don’t want to talk about. But you don’t have to participate.
On the same note, don’t be discouraged to disagree with said topic. They can voice their opinions, and you share the same right.
I don’t even know you, man! This is pretty sudden. I don’t even know what I did to deserve this!
“Seeing Sya without having to question her purpose would be good, because at that point they’d be integrated into society.”
Therein lies a huge part of the problem. Sya doesn’t have much of a purpose. Until now, the only remarkable thing about her IS the fact that she is transgendered. So bringing her into the role of hero would be like bringing one of the random lionguard yak escort NPC’s into the party. We’re left wondering where this person ever came from and why it deserves to be treated special.
And that leaves us with the only logical assumption. She is special because she is trans, and thus elevated simply for that.
You have good intentions and all, but I can see this going horribly wrong. And it’s not just bigots and homophobes that will be annoyed by something like this. Most people in this generation are accepting and tolerant people. If you approach them with a transgender character, the worst reaction you’ll get is an indifferent shrug. Because we’ve moved past the phase of “OMG every trans person is such a hero!” and more into the “So what? Transgender is a part of life. Get over it” phase. At least when you’re dealing with a “world” like GW (or really any video game, as they’re typically filled with people of a certain generation).
In real life, we all understand that transgender people have a struggle to get over. Most of us at least. We know there are certain times when attention needs to be focused on the bigotry against transgendered people. But in GW, that doesn’t exist. What we’re all working for in real life is a world where people wouldn’t look twice at a trans person. Because why would you? They’re people. Like every other person. Right now, they’re brave and standing against a world that generally works against them, but at some point, when they become the norm, as they should be, (and as they’re generally viewed on the internet) all this pointing and forcing them into the spotlight will be almost equally detrimental to their cause. Because you’re still separating them from the rest of us.
TL;DR: Taking a transgender person and going “HEY LOOK! This person is different from us!” Even with good intentions is not the way to make them accepted.
They’re from any Lost Bandit Chest if you’re a little bit lucky. Join a chest farm and you’ll have a stack in little time.
Neither the Lieutenant or the minions (excepting Sylvari) for Mordremoth were present for the first year or so of GW2’s lifetime, so that argument is out. Just because we don’t see underwater dragon influence doesn’t mean it wont be added
That ended poorly for the last guy.
Well the game really uses its aesthetic as a selling point. It’s kind of gw’s thing. I dont see why you’d buy this game just to clutter up its beauty. It’s like buying pancakes just for the syrup. So I for one would be opposed to large mounts.
What we have for “mounts” now is perfect for this game, I think. They’re useless in functioning, and really small and don’t have the "clutter " issue. Unlike giant lizards and glowing stallions seen in other games where civilized towns, where people eat, sleep, and do business, is awash in giant animals that you can’t see past.
As for the lore issue, there are plenty of mounts in lore. There are even, specifically, horses, even if we never see them in GW2. They are mentioned and do exist.
I think, according to lore, mounts would be unnecessary, thanks to way points, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. For the same reason people in developed countries still ride horses today. They don’t actually GO anywhere on these horses. It’s purely for recreation. But I think this thread, unlike many others, is willing to acknowledge this detail. At the end of the day, I think what they’re really asking for is more stuff like the riding broom. I can totally get behind that if that’s what people want.
I think though, the idea you get that people are “opposed” to mounts is incorrect. I’m assuming (and I could be wrong. Sorry) you saw previous thread (s) where people insisted that we NEEDED mounts for whatever reason, and people listed a thousand different reasons why we don’t. But I don’t think most people would be “against” aesthetic mounts. Just indifferent. Like how we treat costumes.

Maybe add a consumable option to the Gift of Exploration? Eat the gift to unlock the entire map for that character. Map and World Completion achievements no longer attainable on said character.
That actually seems pretty fair. It gets rid of the “pay to win” issue by making you actually work for it in game. The character specific sacrifice is a nice touch too.
This is awfully close to the “pay to win” line. Anet has been pretty good (at the very least, better than everyone else) At keeping paid content purely aesthetic. This thing you’re talking about actually provides an in game benefit, and it’s kind of a slippery slope that all “F2P” games fall into very easily. Now it’s just “oh I saved 30 minutes mapping when everyone else had to suffer”. But a year from now its "oh I’m level 90 because I bought the extra levels pack from the gem store ".
I don’t think there’s any opposition. Theres just no interest. And if there were to ever be a list of “things people want in GW2” mounts would be near the bottom of most people’s list. It’d be nice I guess, but it’s been stated again and again that mounts have literally no purpose in this game other than to have something pretty to sit on. Like the witch broom or magic carpet. And that’s fine if you’re into aesthetics, but there are plenty of things this game can use that actually improve the quality of the game.
We have way points everywhere, and very generous speed boosts. Mounts would not help much at all. And people have tried to prove otherwise in every way imaginable and been proven wrong at every turn.
I realise I’m the odd one out here but I’ve never seen leveling up and getting equipment as the purpose of the game.
I think that’s how a vast majority of people feel. This game especially feels like you don’t really do much until after you’ve hit 80. Which I think is great.
The bow looks over-stylized for my taste, but it is pretty to look at. And probably better looking than most other legendaries. I think overall, its a good addition. Even if I personally don’t want it.
This is the first patch I’ve seen in a while that had an overall positive reaction. I hope it continues to move in this direction.
They should make some maps for the Crystal Desert. Don’t get much more open than that, and they were really pretty in GW1. Now I think they’re supposed to look a bit greener in most areas, so that’d be neat.
I too like to blow things out of proportion. I mean, seriously! A tome that gets you to 80 instantly?! I had to sit through 2 and a half minutes of clicking tomes to get MY 80’s! People are getting stuff, and I’m angry!
Yeah! New people should have to level up like everyone else! By using a ton of tomes!
Here’s a fun investment for PvE

That’s offensive. A JOKE KILLED MY FATHER!
What’s the ridiculous part? Getting the refund? Or giving them 7 months to deliver what they promised before finally calling it quits? I think 7 months is more time than they deserved for people who feel like they need a refund.
I enjoy the game enough to want to stick with it for now, but I can totally understand why people are angry and want to just pull the plug and get what money they can salvage.
Hey guys. To be fair, we don’t know what is coming in April. There’s no need to complain so early. I mean, based on previous experiences, it’s a pretty solid bet that you’re all right and there really won’t be much. We’ll have plenty of chances to complain then. So, you know… I’m not saying don’t complain. I’m just saying be patient.
(Seriously though, I find it hard to be hopefully optimistic anymore).
Arid Sea. I’d like to see the giant statues there now that the area is supposed to be a bit greener now.
I thought Elona was the best area in GW1. I liked the deep lore and history and whatnot. I can see why people liked Cantha, and it added the best PvP-ish features, but honestly I feel like if they removed Cantha completely, it wouldn’t have really affected the overall GW1 story that much. You’d just be wondering who Shiro was when you fought him in the Realm of Torment. And I haaaated Kaineng City.
And Elona was pretty! For the most part. There weren’t many areas in Elona that I thought were just kind of “meh”. But my favorite area in GW1 as far as aesthetics was probably the Arid Sea, which, I guess is part of Elona? Or just north of it. But it was in the prophecies campaign. And I want it back >:o
I don’t think the design is bad, but I do think too many are required to max anything and most of them are locked behind painfully tedious and/or time-gated tasks.
We don’t know what these little guys are packing under that armor. But maybe sexual dimorphism just isn’t really a thing in their species. Some critters just have very subtle differences between genders. I mean, can you tell a female hamster from a male hamster without flipping the little guy/girl over?
