I will be the pact leader. And I will rule with an iron fist!
Saying mounts would save the game is like saying traveling is somehow a big issue. Of all the things I’ve heard people complain about in GW2, travel has never come up. Say what you will about anything else, but this game freaking nailed moving about the maps.
Mounts would do literally nothing but give you something pretty to sit on. Traveling is already instantaneous. And while, despite being next to useless, people still demand mounts. And that’s fine. I don’t mean to say there’s anything wrong with wanting mounts. But if this game really needs saving, adding a useless animal/object to sit on that has no real function will not be the thing that does it.
Balancing seems to be a hard thing to tackle in this game sometimes. I’m just glad “Zerk or GTFO” isn’t a big thing anymore. Took them forever to make things like conditions a desirable thing to have around.
Thanksgiving isn’t about taking people’s land :/ I mean, you’re right to say that it DID in fact happen, and it was awful, but if you think Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrating our brutal treatment of Native Americans, you’re kind of missing the point entirely. So, the idea that people in Tyria not having a Thanksgiving holiday based on Tyrian people’s inability to take land and keep it is a little off point. (Also I wouldn’t say that humans were “swiftly” removed from the Charr lands they took. They were kicking it Ascalon for quite a long time)
There are probably tons of things they could be thankful for. Not being annihilated by dragons (yet) would be a good start. Or they can even just make it a generic harvest festival. They could be thankful the land produces food and whatnot. But if they added that to Tyria it probably wouldn’t be so late in winter. I think most harvest festivals are in early or mid fall, if they’re celebrated.
But I think the key reason Thanksgiving time isn’t celebrated in GW2 (and was such a minor thing in GW1) is that Thanksgiving in the late November time frame is a fairly North America specific holiday.
Grenth is not the patron god of assassins

Managed to get a screenshot referring to the founding of the city, if that helps clear anything up.
(At work so this is brief and without references for now) But if you go around and read all the notes lying around and talk to H.O.X. you’ll see it was founded by Zinn shortly after his exile (the trial you see in GW1 EotN). and the discovery of the Chak crawling all over the place was what caused the fall of the city.
Nothing I can recall says how long Rata Novus was inhabited. Reading everything provided in game it can be surmised that Zinn founded the city shortly after EotN, the city was inhabited for xxx amount of years (roughly 105?) and was abandoned 55,847 days ago, shortly after discovering those annoying bugs northeast of the city.
Just explore the place and read the notes lying around. There’s neat stuff there!

Mordremoth could probably attack anywhere, as evidenced by the tendrils, but to what extent? There might be a reason why the highest concentration of Mordrem is around the Maguuma wastes. It’s possible that, while it can spawn tendrils and small enemies far away, it takes a lot more effort to do so. Comparatively, the groups that took out Fort (whatever it was where Belinda died) was pretty small. Without the element of surprise, they probably wouldn’t have accomplished what they were set out to do.
The tendrils in places like LA could be used to “see” where it was feasible to attack and what should be left alone. And as far as attacking The Grove of all places, I think, is probably the same reason Kralk woke up and went straight to Glint. The Pale Tree was supposed to be his (minion/general/whatever) and when she wasn’t talking to him, he went to go check it out or get rid of it.
As a simple joke , it was probably supposed to be implied that YOU were the first ugliest thing. Aside from that, literally anything.
I think some of you are getting confused. You reference this "Claw Island place, when clearly you mean “Clawr Island”.
Because they’re mimicking the anatomy of the humans the tree grew over. It might not be functional as a set of mammaries, but they have them simply because the base model (humans) have them.
It’s not wrong! Grenth is exactly where he should be if you consider the ground shifted when it sank… and the statue got up and walked a bit. You know. To stretch its legs.
People are interested in lore. There’s just not a whole lot to speculate on here. Humans are from somewhere else. It’s an established fact in Guild Wars. It’s like debating the existence of light or gravity. You can speculate where they came from, I guess, but so far there hasn’t really been any reason to care.
Woo! I still don’t know if it’s $50 worth of content, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it ISN’T $50 worth of content! But I’m glad they listened. It’s a comprehensive enough solution that I’m actually pretty sure I’m going to end up getting the expac. Thanks Anet!
They’re technically not charging anything for the core game. No one is buying it again because no one is buying it at all. NEW players are simply getting the core for free and veteran players are simply getting nothing extra for free. And that’s what these people seem to think the argument is about. Even though it’s been said a thousand different ways in a thousand different threads that entitlement is not the issue. It’s just the only argument they can hide behind while ignoring the shady things that have been going on. Saying one thing, doing another, then trying to erase evidence and adding insult to injury with their latest refund idea where they just erase everything you’ve done so far so you can still pay $50 later with a brand new account!
As for the Reaper class thing, they made it out to be this Jason Vorhees (sp?) type slow moving, but unstoppable terror that relies on chilling opponents to make them unable to flee. Only now they’ve decided that chilling enemies will no longer have any effect on leap/dash/skills that the more dodgy builds are known for. As of now, trying to leap while chilled makes you cover only half the distance, thus chill is a good counter for those pesky high mobility builds that necromancers are 100% unable to keep up with. But after the CC update neither cripple, chill, nor speed buffs (for the opposite, less harmful side of the issue) will affect the distance of leap/dash skilsl.

It’s kind of like when someone’s computer messes up and they hit the monitor in frustration. It’s not the poor monitor’s fault. It’s just the part people see so they yell get mad at it. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the natural order of things now. Is it fair? no. But then neither is expecting people to fall to the whims of the ones who ARE responsible (NCSoft and whatever marketing team is involved). Yeah, the devs don’t set the price. And saying rude things about them is childish. But people are angry and EVERYONE, marketing and dev team alike need to sit down and figure out why. And try to fix it. Not say “Screw it, let’s just throw kitten tag on it”
interesting note: fifty dollar (in characters instead of letters) is apparently being censored xD But kitten tag sounds neat too so I’ll leave it.
Only people DO have an idea of what this will be like. We’ve played only a small portion, sure, but from the portion we’ve seen, it’s not worth the $50 price. Couple that with the fact that this game has been making poor decision after poor decision (the soon to come ravaging of the trait system and the movement control skill changes that render the “exciting new” reaper class, completely useless) and it’s easy to see why people are already predicting this won’t be worth a whole lot. So far they’ve given us a price, but have yet to show us why it’s worth it.
And I’m a vet since GW1 launch. Because that apparently freaking means something. Totally.
Where were you people when everyone was raving about Destiny or Assassin’s Creed: Unity? Or Rage? You were silent then. because people had complaints. And legitimate ones. None of those games were worth the $60 price tag and people were very vocal about it. But no one called those “works of art”. Just terrible games. It’s criticism game designers unfortunately come across.
Of course, I’m not saying “OMG your game suckslol” is the proper response, but if people feel it’s not worth $50, it’s not worth $50. Try harder or drop the price.
But if the entire point of this thread is “People should stop being pricks” then yes, you’re right. But the most common argument you’ll see here is “Companies shouldn’t overcharge us/rip us off” and I’m afraid this time I’ll be inclined to agree.
(edited by Squee.7829)
No one is paying for the price of the core game. No one. It’s free. That’s one of the points these obvious trolls who make assumptions about people’s incomes and lives are trying to make. They’re just paying $50 for what so far appears to be about $20 worth of content. That’s the part they’re not getting. Or they are getting and just trying to tell everyone what we think our money should be worth.
Even if you gave me the $10 I wouldn’t spend it on this expac. I can find so many better uses for $10.
The first thing that tipped me off that you aren’t well equipped for this kind of argument is using the term “entitled generation”. That aside, most people aren’t angry that new people are getting something for free (the core game) and the veteran players are not. The problem is that the new players are at least getting their $50 worth. The original price of the game was about $60 on release, and being out this long, obviously the price would have gone down. Crazy $10 weekends aside, this game would probably run about $35-$40 at most retailers. Add to that an expansion that so far looks to cover about 15-20% of the core game’s map (The Maguuma is not that big of an area), we can’t assume, even with the idea that the maps will be HUGE in a vertical kind of way, that this expac will really make the game that much bigger. A new class and some neat little things like hang gliders, maybe, but overall not a huge addition. Not even ONE character slot. At best we’re looking at a $30 expansion. MAYBE $40. (The expansion for GW1 was $35 at launch I believe, and had quite a lot of things worth paying for, but I’ll go out on a limb and say that this expansion will have a price adjustment based on some very mild inflation and the fact that we have a z axis) So, basically, $35-$40 for the core game and $35-$40 fore the expansion, that’d make the whole thing about $80.
BUT!!!The core game isn’t in question. It’s a GIFT! Therefore NO ONE should pay the $40 for the core. EVERYONE should pay $40 for JUST the expac. I’d be cool with that. Happier with $35, but I’d suck it up for another $5. But $50 is just too much. For anyone, new or old.

Two Months Old Customer Felt Betrayed Already
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Squee.7829
They’re already defending it. And the opinion of a hamster isn’t going to make them feel less self-righteous about being so eager to throw down $50 on what is probably about a $30 expansion (for those who were suckered into buying the game before the HoT release)
Just be glad you don’t have to map WvW areas anymore. I spent almost as much time waiting on ONE tower as I did mapping all of Tyria >:o
I don’t know. I kind of agree with Gale on this one. It just makes sense to leave the cripple/chill effect on the dash skills. If my leg is damaged to the point that I can barely walk, I’m definitely not going to use it to leap 20 feet. And sometimes people use movement based skills to get an edge in combat, which is fine. But the only real counter to those builds is the ability to take away their speed with cripple or chill skills. Now you’re taking that away. The key to a balanced game is making sure every type of build has something that can counter it. Like rock/paper/scissors.
I think Tyrion would be an awesome mesmer. He’s got the charm and the confidence. He doesn’t hit things hard, but he can misdirect the fook out of a situation to come out on top!
Jaime would be a Guardian I think.
Aria Stark would be a thief
Jon Snow would be a warrior. Probably.
Most things will probably only get more expensive for the foreseeable future. It feels like this game is in kind of a down-time as HoT is (weeks/months/years?) away and there doesn’t appear to be any plans for anything new to do in in the meantime. Shiny gem store trinkets are just not enough to keep people interested in a game that’s going to be stagnant for a while, so there are fewer people farming things like WBT’s and Silverwastes, thus there are less people putting things on the market.
Once HoT is finally released though, I imagine people will come flooding back and start up their old farming habits along with some of the new ones they’ll pick up from the new content.
No dragon in anything ever should be able to fly. The largest thing that ever could fly was a quetzalcoatlus. It was the size of a giraffe, and even that was an absolute marvel. It practically needed a runway to take off, had extremely fragile bones and very thin skin. It had to be very careful not to break itself. It was a terror of the skies, but ONLY because it could fly in a world where other predators were earthbound. (there were other flying pterasaurs, but they were small and ate mostly bugs or scavenged) If it had to ever fight something, it would break in half. But no one ever complains about the iron thick scales and monstrous size and ultra-muscular bulk of any other dragon. In literally anything ever.
This thread became all about ban suggestions, and I’m ok with that!
Both are good suggestions. Or you can keep the tradition of stripping banishees by having skritt steal all his armor and carrying him off. But that might be too much.
“Um” that youtube video was a link to an event that happened literally one time. That’s entirely not what I was referring to and I really doubt the dev team has time to personally take over every account that violates the rules and fling them off of a cliff.
If you’ve ever played GW1, you’d know about the giant demi-god reaper guy that was scripted to appear and hack away people who get banned. It’s THAT kind of thing that I was referring to.
Law abiding Charr should be fine. It’s the shady drifter Charr that hang out in back alleys and sell questionable goods that should worry! And I know it’s not a priority. I was just hoping they’d have something in the future maybe. But I guess it would attract some negative attention to make getting banned almost fun.
Will there ever be a cool ban animation like the one that was in the original Guild Wars? I understand if it’s a really low priority thing that the devs really don’t have time for right now, but are there any known plans for cool banishings? I know some people get their feelings hurt or whatever, but I figure (and I could be wrong) about 90% of your bans are just gold spamming bots anyways. They don’t have feelings! So why not make a spectacle of it for all us law abiding humans to enjoy?
They cleansed the source of corruption. I wasn’t referring to that though. I meant they didn’t send in any force to just exterminate all the risen. They just came in, killled Zhaitan and cleared whatever was in between them. And like someone said earlier, it’s not uncommon for someone to shout the name of a fallen hero. But I think the more likely explanation is that they’re not really sure Zhaitan is dead. They probably aren’t all that intelligent and just go on acting as they were programmed as if Zhaitan was still around.
Most maybe. But there are still some kicking about. The pact didn’t cleanse Orr of Risen. And like in Starcraft, I imagine that once ALL control is gone (all generals, etc.) the zombies will still exist, just be useless and stupid.
I always figured it was like a Starcraft Zerg kind of thing. There’s a single brain (Overmind/Zhaitan) that has to control essentially a billion little body parts (minions), but even the largest network of neurons and whatnot would have a pretty hard time controlling every small piece. It’d be like us having to monitor and fully control every hair follicle on our body. So the “brain” (overmind/Zhaitan) has to delegate tasks through smaller less independent brains (Which at this point, the server analogy Konig used would be better) In Starcraft, the overmind spread control over its massive sprawling armies through use of cerebrates. Big maggot looking things that had no purpose other than to receive orders from the overmind, and carry them out efficiently using the little zergs.
The cerebrates had autonomy, to a point. They can act and react to situations as they see fit (in case of surprise attacks or disconnection from the main brain or server, you need to be able to defend yourself and your assets), but their only caveat was they couldn’t override orders from the Overmind. I think the post Arah undead may be similar. The main brain (server) is dead, but the mostly autonomous sub-brains are still around to give orders.
As for Zhaitan being “uploaded” to Tequatl, that’s a theory I’ve never heard before, and it seems pretty neat, but I also like the idea that since Zhaitan died, Tequatl simply lost the one thing that prevented him from being completely autonomous and can now act more efficiently in the here and now and defend itself, rather than “wait and see whats best for the hive”. Both theories provide a logical reason to why Tequatl is stronger now.
Whether people want to admit it or not, they probably want things to be easy. At least to the point that everyone can beat it. If something is too easy, youre more likely to get people begrudgingly grinding it while complaining about “Stupid noobs, this was WAY harder in MY day” whereas if only about 30% or less of people can actually beat it more people will just rage quit and break keyboards.
As for the issue with berserker builds and all, I am 100% happy they’re doing something about that. I don’t think that full zerk gear is the problem. I think the problem is that for most of the game so far, it has been the only reliable solution. I love my condition necro build. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it absolutely underperforms on any map but Silverwastes when compared to the dime-a-dozen zerk build. I don’t even like glass cannoning. But everything else has been, at best, mediocre.
Did the destroyers actually collapse after the Great Destroyer died? It was my understanding that they simply became less organized, but the dwarves were required to continue fighting them underground. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the endin to EotN though.
If Zhaitan’s influence is anything like Primordus’, I would think the ED gives orders to the generals who have a degree of autonomy, who then delegate to the lower minions. In case of ED inactivity (be it hibernation or death,) a general (i.e. The Great Destroyer or Tequila) can step in and take control. In the absence of either ED or general, the minions just become super basic organisms with no thought beyond “Kill! Eat!”
All that aside, it could just be that the undead we fight in Orr post story are actually just not organized at all and just killing because that’s just all they know. It’d just be too great of a hassle to seperate Orr maps into a pre-Zhaian/Post-Zhaitan map just to drop enemy AI.

Before they fix the bridges, can they at least give the workers some hammers? It’s so sad to watch them tirelessly hammer away at things with their bare hands. On the positive side, they have made great progress, even with their lack of tools.
Humans are from a different world altogether.
“Wherever they originated, humans are not native to the world as they were brought there by the Six Gods.2 The gods themselves only predate humans by a short period of time”
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Human#History
And did anyone think about penguins? They can’t fly at all, and here we are acting like it’s just something that’s SO easy to do! Insensitive jerks! #Checkyourprivilege!
And Komodo dragons? They can’t live up to the impossible body image the dragons in this game portray! #HAES
It’s a good thing there are no cars in this game. I know a few people that died in those, and I’d hate to be triggered. #IhaveaterriblydepressinglifebecauseIcanonlyseenegativelinksevenwhentherearenone
I like how every time Anet does something mildly irritating to a small group of people, they automatically claim “They don’t care about the players!”
I’m pretty sure no one who thought of this joke was considering any sort of link to the recent plane crash. Or any plane crash in history. There were quite a few. I feel like people who make these kinds of links are just looking for things to be upset about. If anything, given the Sepia tones, the oldschool aviator cap, and the noises, I was thinking it was a reference to WWII era bombers. Not tragic plane accidents.
Was it poorly timed? Maybe. I can see that I suppose, but even if that German plane didnt crash just a few days ago, SOMEONE would have just linked it to another crash that made headlines. Literally any crash involving an international flight..
It’s a joke. It was made to make people smile. You have to really reach out to find something to be mad about with this one, but apparently people are willing to reach. I hope you don’t see everything else in this world with such a negative perspective. There are a lot of bad things out there, and it can be pretty depressing if those are all you can focus on. Try to just see the good in it. The smiling faces as your happy little character runs around trying to be an airplane.
As for the Sepia, at least you can turn it off. But the only legitimate complaint I see out of the whole thing is the fact that you can’t opt out of the arm/wing thing.
I’m not disagreeing with anyone that says the Charr were worse, but I am just going to point out that we had Charr armor in GW1. I mean, enslaving a guy is one thing, but imagine the look on Pyre Fierceshot’s face when he had to team up with a warrior that may have been wearing one of his cousins grossly draped across his body.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Warrior_Charr_Hide_armor
I would be a human…anything. It doesn’t matter because I’d never leave DR. Between the centaurs and 10 foot scorpion monsters and the literally everything else that wants to kill me, I’d just pick a spot at one of the bars, maybe cook a little to support my alcoholism (because I’d need to be drunk to forget what’s out there) and live out the rest of my days. It’s not an adventurous life, but it’s a long one. Unless GW2 ever added a “liver disease” condition.
I think mordrem spawn was supposed to be basically the default setting for Sylvari. What keeps them from being such is likely a number of things, Pale Tree protection (though waning) would be one of them. Personally, I think there are more factors involved, such as the fact that the Pale Tree was taken farther from Mordremoth’s influence before it was planted, thus giving it the freedom to grow on its own and make Sylvari with their own free will, but I think the willpower excuse is a pretty weak one. It’s probably less like enticing weak willed Sylvari and more like reactivating a dormant gene inside the Sylvari. Much like changing a gene in a chicken can mean the difference between growing feathers, as they do now, or growing scales, as their far back ancient ancestors did. No amount of coercion can make the chicken NOT grow scales, once the gene is altered.
I know! I have a problem! Is just that all the games I have are boring to me lately. GW2 is just more familiar and has a social aspect I can’t find in other games. I’ve tried. The people of skyrim are terrible conversationalists. And while I know that my boredom comes from issues that are at least 90% my fault (be it depression that’s making me unmotivated or whatever. I’m not a psychologist. I pay other people to do that. ) I would still very much like to know if we can expect anything to play with to hold us over until HoT comes out.
Since we still don’t have a release date on this thing (Unless I’m missing something that should be incredibly obvious on the website), I have no idea if this thing is coming out next week or next year. I really doubt it’s the former. But the point of this is, will there be any meaningful updates between now and then? I mean, aside from some nice things in the gem store that add about 30 seconds of “oh neat, that’s a pretty gold pig” (which I’m appreciative of), will there be anything new to do? Because I can only take SIlverwastes about 15-16 more times before I start headbutting my desk. I know most of this is because I have a VERY boring desk job, so I end up playing this game way more than any normal person should, but even so, at a casual game rate, I can see people getting a little tire of the same content before launch, if it ends up being one of those “Its ready when it’s ready” for 4 years type deals.
We can have phobias! And speaking of odd fears, does anyone else find it strange that the armor repair NPC’s (the few that are left) warn us not to wrestle bears? I mean, we kill dragons. And he’s worried about us tangling with bears. It’s especially odd coming from the Kodan repair NPC’s.
I read that as backpack sized Asuras at first. I got excited. A tiny Asura you can strap to your back to take on adventures with you. I don’t imagine he/she would be happy about it though.
If my characters are anything like me, they’d be terrified of heights. I think the scream is accurate.
