Livia is still around somewhere, according to one of the books. (I actually didn’t really like Livia:/)Palawa Joko is ruling Elona. There’s a good bit of stuff on the wiki about him now. Turai Ossa died long before GW1 took place, so I figure anything there is to know about that guy is probably on the GW1 wiki. I really doubt he did much past that game. He’s kind of been dead this whole time.

I would like to know about Koss and Lazarus though! And Razah.

Looks like someone was just being silly or trolling. There is literally no way for people to ever stop that. If it bothers you THAT much, report it, and you can do away with that one particular troll (if you can catch them in action), but there will be another to replace it next week. The complete inability to control the minds and actions of its players is not “bad programming” or lazy developing. Unless you happen to have some precogs lying around they can use.

Ally Targeting

We can target allies now. And I absolutely hate it. There are no skills that heal specific targets. They’re all area heals and buffs. There is almost no reason to target other players in this game, yet every time I try to target an enemy, I somehow end up targeting a player that’s not even standing that close to it! He just happens to be somewhere in the 30ft between me and the enemy. Probably off to the side somewhere, and irritating the hell out of me.

The Charr could claim it as a war trophy. They kind of blew it up once. The Humans could claim it as a cultural right. Their Gods were there, and they apparently originated from there. I guess. (I’m assuming the Canthan origin isn’t a thing anymore?) The Asura could claim it because they’re Asura and Asuras do what Asuras want. The Sylvari can claim it because they cleansed it, and eventually that tree, massive as it is, is going to get awfully small for their growing population. After Mordremoth stops stealing some of them.
I think the Norn are the only ones who really don’t have any claim to it, other than “Hey guys, we’re homeless now. Let us move in that empty space, please”. But taking charity just doesn’t seem very Norn.

It’s probably a lot less dangerous since the undead don’t have anyone to coordinate them effectively. Still more dangerous than anyone would like though. I think they still have a means to make more undead, even if they don’t necessarily know what to do with them. So, now it’s probably just a matter of time before the Pact forces just kind of mop up what’s left of the semi-mindless corpses still wandering about. Probably a fairly long time.

I guess whether or not they are undead is really up to the player. This is probably one of those times where if the game doesn’t specifically mention it, you can probably RP, or whatever, your own explanation. Anet doesn’t give you a back story? Make one up! Did they not mention the specifics of your pulse? I guess it’s whatever you want it to be.

The one thing I do agree on, as far as complaints go, is the map. I sincerely hope after three years we get more than just Southsun Cove and a slightly extended Maguuma. So far, how much they plan to add to the map has barely been mentioned. There is no way to know if they will add just a few more squares at the rate of about 1 per year, or if they will rapidly start pumping out maps and areas we can explore, but I would think that if they had big plans for more exploration, they’d mention it a lot more and not try to distract us with nothing but “Look, shiny new guy!”

The Vizier looked like a normal person for about 75% of the time we knew him. I guess it wouldn’t be so odd to think that someone with enough power to overcome death can easily maintain his/her appearance from before they turned rotted and gross. Even if it is just a facade. Alternatively, the Vizier was the only known lich to be able to look “normal” Or at the very least the only one who bothered to try. He was also the only known lich to wield the Scepter of Orr at some point. Livia is also alive WAY beyond her normal lifespan, and also is known to have at least held the scepter. Maybe the scepter has the unique ability to allow a wielder to alter their appearance, or even maintain a normally functioning living body over the barely functioning rotting corpse.
As for the point that the Vizier was already a lich before wielding the scepter, that might not be the case.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scepter_of_Orr
According to that link, the scepter was held in Orr and went missing just before the cataclysm, only to show up in Kryta during the events in GW1. Seeing as how the Vizier was basing pretty much all of his activity on that scepter, I think it’s likely that he used it long before his country exploded.

I think the problem with the commanders would be that some of these commanders are incredibly knowledgeable, but only about one specific thing. Maybe this guy with a shiny red tag knows exactly which champ will spawn and at which time in Cursed Shore for chest farming! But is functionally kittened everywhere else. Maybe his strategy for Vinewrath would be to scramble about the map waiting for the champs to spawn. Then the Vinewrath sputters about all alone in his cave while everyone misses the event. But it’s ok, because he’s a commander and apparently we absolutely need a commander on a map to function.

Jade things have been around in GW2 since we started messing with Zephyrites. It’s probably more tied to them specifically than it is to Cantha at this point. And while the Zephyrites supposedly probably came from Cantha, that doesn’t mean we’ll be going there any time soon. And by any time soon, I mean like 2 years. We’ve got 4 dragons to deal with on THIS continent, one in Elona and one in the sea that for all we know could be chilling just outside of Southsun. (or halfway to Cantha) And we’ve dealt with only one of them so far.

I imagine when they finally do get us to Cantha, it won’t be through some little living story series that they can throw together as they go over the course of a few weeks or months. It will probably be a pretty big deal with all kinds of announcements and seriously dedicated time. Probably bigger than the HoT expansion hype, since HoT isn’t revealing an entire other continent. Just more of the same old Tyria.

I’ve looked around online for neat little hidden spots in GW2. I found some neat stuff, but most of it was extremely outdated stuff (most posts were from 2012) that might have been somewhat unknown around launch, but are actually jumping puzzles and very well known stuff that, while pretty, is not very “hidden” or secret, and overall just too annoying to reach to be populated.

The kind of stuff I want to find are just little hidden nooks that may not have anything of real importance in them, gameplay-wise. Like the cave in the northeast corner of Straits of Devestation that appears to have what looks like the door to the bloodstone dungeon in GW1. Or the little nook you can sort of fall into just outside Vigil Keep. (I can post pictures for emphasis on request, but my internet connection is being a little weird right now, and uploading pictures might throw my computer into fits of seizures)

Has anyone else found anything interesting?

I still think it might be old Farmer McCready. Using holograms (we know we have them. Remember Dragon Bash?) and powerful fertilizer. Any old person can raise a farm with produce. Tomatoes here, carrots there. But the human/plant hybrid market? That’s untapped potential! And McCready can’t have competition. He needs to corner the market. So he makes the whole “Mordremoth” charade to make the Sylvari™ unappealing! And when this all blows over, and the “dragon” is gone, all that’s left is MCready and his super crop of eerily humanoid plants for sale.

Only problem is, he never counted on those pesky sleuths, the Biconics and their GOLEM.

Just because some people don’t agree with a story doesn’t mean it isn’t good. And just because people predicted it, doesn’t make it “Omg the WORST story ever!” Not everything has to be a Scooby Doo mystery. It really COULD be a dragon this whole time, and not the creepy human-plant farmer in a really elaborate mask. What if this entire time the Sylvari were NOT mordrem spawn? Because last I checked that was also a theory that was thrown around at launch. And no less valid a theory than the opposite. Then all the pro-dragon spawn people would be throwing the tantrum saying “OMG, this was SO obvious the entire time, because people have caught on since…forever ago!” Sometimes people are wrong. It happens. No reason to freak out and say “This story is garbage and the devs are all fan pleasing LIARS >:o”

Faolin COULD have had a nicer side, but honestly (and this is just my opinion) that would just be too cliche. There are so many “good people losing their way” tropes, it’s actually kind of nice to see someone who just so happens to be an insufferable kitten from the start. Not everyone is nice. Why should Faolin be? Caithe though…she’s comes off as naive and even spineless. They can probably mold her into someone a little more tolerable. But again, personal opinion.

As for the warning Trehearne bit, I think she probably kept it from him for the same reason she kept it hidden from literally every other Sylvari that exists or has ever existed. That knowledge won’t help anyone. At all. Not if it got out at least. Trehearne’s purpose is to kill dragons. It’d probably be a lot easier for him to just go at Mordremoth thinking “Oh its just another enemy” and not worry about silly little things like “This is my creator!” Plus, Caithe has no reason to trust that Trehearne will keep his mouth shut on the issue and not spill the information to someone that might be able to abuse said information. Like any soundless that might be in the pact, or any nightmare /general enemy that captures someone under Trehearnes command who might have found out (should Trehearne be the overly forth-coming type).

And here’s the Revenant. It breaks the barrier between dimensions to channel powerful heroes and demigods and kills you with the universe.”

And the pro-zerker group is right, removing zerker builds would not help. The solution is to find a way to make other builds and roles more useful.

As it was mentioned before, I think the fact that the Pale Tree seed was moved might be a big influence on why the Pale Tree wasn’t heavily influenced by Mordremoth until he started waking up. This would also help explain why the Sylvari are so different. They’re not Mordrem made life-forms. They’re free and independent Pale Tree created life forms.

Also, I feel like one should consider that Mordremoth is fairly unique among the Elder dragons. So far, he’s the only one that actually creates living minions out of living organisms. There’s a lot of variability in plants. Destroyers are all rocks and magma. Consistent, durable, and sturdy. Not a lot of variability other than what shape you can make them. Same with purple crystal monsters. Undead are arguably organic enough, but long past the time where they would do things like adapt and evolve to things, not that they woud need to. If they die, just resurrect and try again. It’s all about bio-mass with zombies! And we have no idea what Bubbles’ minions will be like.

The above being considered, even if the Pale Tree WAS a general/high ranking Mord minion this entire time, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sylvari STILL looked wildly different from other Mordrem. She’s not a construct as much as she is a living organic thing.

Why he took the seed doesn’t have to have some deep or meaningful story behind it. He has a little girl. Little girls like flowers. He figured “rare exotic plant seed. This will probably be something cool to show her!” And took it. Then when he found her dead, planting her would-be gift on her grave seems like exactly the kind of sentimental action a guy in his position would take. I mean, people put flowers on graves all the time, even if they are normally fully grown and well documented. Not an unknown seed.

Something Rius said earlier really seems to make the most sense to me in this whole “Why do Sylvari seem so different” situation. (My perma-link options arent working right, so sorry for just copy/pasting what he/she said all unprofessionally):

“The work around there would be seeds, meant to be grown and fed by the dragon’s power around his awakening. The Pale Tree’s seed was removed from his influence and planted long before it could feed off of him, leading it to be fed and influenced by the “pure” magic than flows through Tyria. Considering the size of the tree, the roots probably hit a ley line somewhere. Therefore it has been sustained by an entire different form of magic as compared to other dragon minions.
It would seem that before awakening, he was still too weak to form any real champions, let alone control a champion that was born early and raised outside of his influence. The tree was planted and became conscious and alive around 300 years before Mordremoth was supposed to awaken and around 250 years before he actually did awaken. That alone drastically sets it apart from other champions which either existed before or were created around/after the dragon’s awakening.”

The context I got from all this being that the dragon’s Champions were all created by their minions, and for whatever reason, resided NEAR their dragon overlord during their sleep. I figure either the champions were made last cycle and rested nearby until they were reactivated, (like the Great Destroyer probably was) or created just after awakening (like the Shatterer probably was). Either way, proximity was probably one of the big two factors here. The dragons wouldn’t have a very far reaching influence while they slept.

The other factor being the material of the minion/champion. Stone, crystal, and even undead minions can likely be made today, deactivated for x thousands of years, then recalled after a few millenia. Plants are not so long lasting. Mordremoth’s minions seem to be a lot more organic than other minions, excepting maybe Zhaitan’s. This would make longevity for his minions a bit of a problem UNLESS he preserves his future minions in the form of seeds. Much like how conifers survived the ice age by using cones as organic stasis pods, Mordremoth’s seeds would be the stasis for his minions later on, and kept close by where his influence would reach said seeds, even while he was in deep sleep.

Thus the problem arises when some prick comes along and takes these seeds a little outside the range of where Mordremoth’s current influence lies. Breaking the Pale Tree out of her creator’s influence might not need to require a lot of energy if the dragon’s influence simply never reached her. At least not enough to morph her into a minion.

Just a thought at least.

There are 7 similarities between humans and raccoons! We have mammary glands, we have forward facing eyes, we are warm blooded, we have opposable thumbs, we have a range of emotional expressions, a sense of possession, and the ability to grow hair. Logic follows that we are raccoons!

It’s not a strong argument. We have never been given a set of rules saying that minions MUST follow x criteria.

And I think you misread my part about the tablet altering the tree’s free will. I was saying that it WAS absurd that the tablet alone was enough to make the Pale Tree free from influence when what appeared to free Glint required a LOT more than just a chiseled rock and a corpse family.
Also, no one ever explained why the other tree also spawned human shaped Sylvari.

Studies show that eleven out of every ten penguins never make it to Tyria. We are deficit one penguin. The Bring Penguins to Tyria Foundation wants to help.

Due to global climate change, penguin habitats are rapidly melting, but in Tyria, there are still plenty of suitable areas for them to live. Places previously occupied by Quaggans and Koda can make perfect habitats for our arctic friends to feed in and waddle about. Our penguins don’t need to go extinct. They can live on in digital immortality here in Tyria. At least until some horrible ice monster eats them.

The mordrem and Sylvari look as similar to me as the Destroyer harpies vs Destroyer trolls in a sense that they look absolutely nothing alike aside from the material they’re made of. Both destroyers appear to be made of lava and stone, whereas the mordrem seem to be primarily made of bark and leaves (and maybe a calcium based skull here and there http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Mordrem.jpg). The Sylvari also appear to be made of bark and leaves: http://amd-icbm.com/icbm/media/uploads/2011/08/WhintSeries.jpg

And we really don’t know enough about how dragons work. We have enough precedents to say what they have in common, but nothing about most of them personally, but each one is unique, and more importantly, very distant. The only ones we’ve actually seen firsthand were Kralkatorric and Zhaitan, and only one of them had any time to actually DO anything before anyone saw it.

It’s probably reasonable enough to say that the Sylvari stick out too much among dragon minions, but at the end of the day, we can’t say that this sort of thing is actually normal for that particular dragon. It’s entirely possible that Jormag has a personal nightclub filled with penguins far up north! We just don’t know, and that would be adorable! The point is, the dragons are still fairly enigmatic. To say they’re acting outside of x parameters is pointless. No one ever said they all had to make things the exact same way.

I’d also go into say we know the reason the Sylvari are so different is because of factors we already know, i.e. the Ventari tablets and being buried on dead people, but I have issues with that too. One being the aforementioned minion freeing ritual that SHOULD take lots of time, energy, and knowledge. A stone tablet is simply not enough. Also, why is Malyck also human shaped? Who else is going around planting those seeds on dead people?

So Malyck's existance just got weirder

Maybe for the same reason none of the other Sylvari were violent until now. Even the unprotected soundless. Chronologically, the tree literally just activated the bulk of the Sylvari Dragon Doom Squad, and we really don’t know what Malyck is about to do. We’ll have to wait for the next part of the story to really find out I guess.

What about the Charr? They don’t have to conform to your body standards! Real people have curves! And sometimes fur. And horns. And maybe tails.

I think looking generally plant-like IS being similar to Mordremoth, in the exact same way that the undead minions looked like the undead dragon. We don’t know if the mordrem minions have any bone structure to them, really. Granted, some of them do look awfully fleshy, like the trolls, but some people can make their Sylvari look awfully “skin-like” also. It could just be a really good facsimile. Or they could be corrupted wildlife.

As to the “why are the Sylvari the ones that look different”? again, they took the form of the people they were buried on.

Which dragon minions look similar to the dragons? I’m not seeing it. The ONLY case I can think of is Zhaitan has some dragon looking minions, and the case of the dragon generals like the shatterer and the Claw of Jormag. But other than that, Zhaitan has floating giant eyes, (Eyes of Zhaitan) Giant fatblobs (Mouths of Zhaitan) and of course, the zombies he makes of other races. None of the destroyer monsters look anything like a dragon, even his first general/minion from GW1, the Great Destroyer looked absolutely nothing like the dragon above him. The icebroods, if not corrupted norns or wolves, just look like golem-esque ice constructs. I really don’t see where people get the “It has to look like the dragon that spawned it” idea.

Plus, like it was said, the Sylvari were planted on top of dead humans. I even thought there was a history thing posted by Anet saying that was why they look human when they could have looked like…whatever.

Only issue I see right now is that Mordremoth’s death doesn’t have to mean the tree dies. We killed Zhaitan and we still have Tequatl the Sunless to deal with. He actually even became stronger. It will likely happen to the Pale tree too. Since she won’t have to spend so much energy blocking a dead Mordremoth’s influence, she’ll have more energy to devote to…whatever it is sentient tree does with her time.
