Idea for AFKers

Steel Fenrir.2791

Reading this thread I suddenly remembered the good old days of Guild Wars 1 participating in the Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood battles. We often get N/A bomber botters in Jade Quarry, but hey, atleast they try to contribute to the team’s success and not just standing in one place or roam around randomly to simulate activity. I also remember the one and only time I saw Dhuum reaping the soul of a player character in Fort Aspenwood.

Devs, could you please bring back in Guild Wars 2 leeching reporting, and automatic temporary bans from events?

My preference would be to see a minimum participation threshold for event rewards added (or increased).

+1 I approve.

It all comes down the devs if they will do something about this on the next update. The code is probably finished, tested, and ready for deployment, but I don’t know if they still have time to put some automated checks in the upcoming March 4 event to deal with this “problem” (depending on your view). Chances are, we will still see more of them, if the event’s game mechanics would entice afkers again. There’s a scenario where this could get chronic, and that is when more and more people decide to go afk as a solution, and like what OP said, some might use bots to move their characters around and rez them automatically.

Hey look! This again.

They aren’t bots. They are afk. Play YOUR game and stop worrying about what other people are doing. The more time you spend looking and complaining about afkers the less time you are saving civilians.

No, they could use bots to move their characters to their desired places to afk while they sleep or go to someplace else. I know because “somebody I know” built a simple one but relented to use it.

If Rox and Braham mate, would they produce a kodan? What about a human and a sylvari, would it produce a burrito?

If the LS events won’t be recycled (ie. January 2015 – Flame and Frost, February 2015 – Southsun, just a sample cycle), could we get videos of past cutscenes, not just the preview videos? If the LS events will be recycled, or become permanent in some way, then it’s OK not to as it may contain some spoilers. I personally think Kasmeer’s unveiling of the illusion on the Tower of Nightmares was cool (although I think the visual effects and the camera shots should have been better, for a grander, more awesome effect. Maybe consult a cinematographer, but not Michael Bay haha? XD ).

Although a solution, I do think this is only a temporary solution and not a complete one at that. They did make some precautions and made sure the judgment was fair. They could have made the system itself automatically monitor the players, but in this case, think of it as “manually monitoring” players until an automated system is in place. Automated vs human monitoring is another debate altogether.

They did made some improvements such as putting scouts just in case people ignored their mail, and the map mission briefing was also improved (slightly). I agree with you OP that people get confused with what to do because of the lack of information. I personally like it that way, to learn the event by yourself, to figure it out how to do it as an individual and as a group, discovering, solving it on our own. I’m not a fan of spoon feeding, but too much lack of information is very bad as well. I dunno, I’m a bit in the middle ground with this right now. Maybe they could put in “hints” to help us succeed? But that’s our job as players, take care of others who do not know yet what to do. Then again, others don’t like to read map chat and follow strangers’ advice, and like you said, some don’t read forums and online guides. I like your idea though of using the LS characters to provide hints on what to do.

But next time, please put personal flags and counters, make this function like multiple renown hearts for each player, or is this even possible, would this be server intensive?

If you can afford it, regularly update your armor every 5 levels with blues or greens, either by buying through the trading post or crafting them (if you can afford them now). I was stingy with updating my equipment when I first joined the game at launch, relying mostly on what the enemy drops and rewards would give me. This made missions harder, compared to when I levelled up my other characters.

You have to take into consideration the scaling in Guild Wars as well as in other games. What seemed to be a party of 8 people facing off against the Lich Lord in Hell’s Precipice (Guild Wars 1 Prophecies final mission battle) might actually be hundreds or thousands of soldiers, with you being one of them or even as an officer. What seemed to be 150 soldiers dealing with the threat of the Ancient Wurm might actually be hundreds, even thousands of soldiers canonically. Likewise, what seemed to be a single person being rescued might actually represent a whole family or a group of survivors.

I was in the same predicament as you OP, only it was in WvW. I was scouting the outside walls of SM, monitoring the movement of the enemy zerg, while the others are bunched up as you would expect at the commander tag in the west SM courtyard. Unfortunately, I was caught by a roaming gang of enemies, and died near the wall. Moments later the commander decided to move out. I was relieved the zerg was heading my way. I was hoping a noble soul would help me and rez me and save me the trouble of running back to the northern wall of SM. Nope, they just ran along with the commander, like flies chasing the dirty kitten of a prancing pig. I was disappointed, disheartened by the behavior I’ve witnessed. That was when I vowed I will never leave a downed man behind. I will never be as low as those who leave their team mates behind. After a while I’ve come to realize there are some who would go out of their way to help one in need. There is still hope. My belief is that for every thousand kitten kid in Tyria, there is one that is truly worthy of a salute.

Since the elder dragons are forces of nature and magic (I don’t know if they are separate, or they’re one and the same), and “gods” take on a humanoid form, and that the elder dragons are said to be older than the “gods”, could it be possible that Tyria was once the land of dragons, before they went almost extinct? Could it be that dragons were the original race in Tyria, and that the elder dragons took this as their physical form, just like the “gods” took on the form of humanoids? What if these elder dragons were creations of the original dragon race? Much like the jotuns, but through the ages, lost their greatness and power. What about the extinct giants? Could there have been a war between the dragons and the giants, and both suffered greatly on the course of this war?

Tengu's do something?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

I think the main timeline points are:

1127 AE Emperor Usoku defeats the Kurzicks and the Luxon, unifies Cantha and begins purging non-humans and political enemies.
1219 AE Zhaitan, the Elder Undead Dragon, awakens. Orr rises from the sea. Lion’s Arch floods. Contact with Cantha severed.
1225 AE The tengu from around the world migrate to Tyria and establish the Dominion of Winds, erecting a great wall encircling it. (approx.)

So during 1127-1219, the Tengu could have fled Cantha and slowly migrated to the north. It was only in 1225 that the Dominion of Winds was established, presumably they were scattered throughout Kryta before that time until the undead threat came and they banded together, ever wary of the other races since the Tengu that migrated to Tyria might have already been second or third generation Tengu since the time of their persecution in Cantha.

According to this timeline , the Tengu’s exodus began long before Zhaitan rose Orr from the depths. So it might be true that the Tengu in the Dominion of winds are actually from Cantha, or mixed in with the Krytan tengu.

They could probably do this by having multiple versions of maps. For example, if you have a “history book” or “journals in Tyria” or some other quest item in your bag, you could choose to go to a previous version instance of the map provided you are level 80 or some other requirements. It sort of works like an overflow. I know this maybe a software bugs galore, and this might be resource intensive; workers and hardware. I don’t know, I want LS and an evolving world, but I do want to visit past locations as they were in the past.

Possibility of elder dragons attacking cities

in Living World

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

Since the dragons’ awakening, they had been slowly but steadily gaining more power and more minions through various forms and ways. Could it be possible that the dragons would simultaneously attack the capital cities of the other races if they gain enough strength to do it? The pattern I’m seeing is that when dragons awaken, catastrophe follows suit (ie. rising of Orr, the Branding). After that, there’s a certain period of “recuperation” for the dragons were they feed and turn other creatures to became their minions. If the “jungle” elder dragon were to awaken, and that the theory that Sylvari are its minions holds, then it could already have enough forces to help with the other dragons’ attack on Tyria (albeit presumably it will be in a weaker state than the other four). Zhaitan tried to attack Lions Arch. It could have deliberately targeted LA to try and awaken the jungle elder dragon. Since elder dragons are sentient and one had already tried to attack a city, I have reason to believe that they could and would attack cities, that they are not planning to be permanent squatters and hobos in Tyria, that they will one day move to eliminate their enemies, my theory being they would do this in one fell swoop, not one by one. Could we be seeing an imminent world wide attack of the dragons (ie. Kralkatorrik attacking the Citadel, Jormag attacking Hoelbrak, Primordius attacking Rata Sum or Divinity’s Reach)?

On another note, we might be preparing for an attack on double dragons, Primordius and Mordy. Or she might have been searching for a hidden dragon, a seventh dragon yet to be revealed.

During the early days of Guild Wars 2, you could buy 800 gems with only 3.6 gold. I bought 3 character slots in 3 days from this. Now, a year and a half later, when you sell 800 gems, you could get an average of 45 gold from it. That’s a 1,250% return on investment if you bought it early in the game. Do you guys think it’s still a good investment right now to buy gems with your stagnant gold and let the gems value rise over time, and then sell them a year or two from now? Do you think the gem’s value could still rise, much more than price you paid for when you bought them (buying them costs more when compared to the amount of gold you get when you sell them at the moment)?

Could you please make floating icons (semi-transparent or not) indicating combo fields that were placed on the ground so that others would know where they could use their combo finishers. If other players would get access to sprockets in some way or another through out the year, then everything is fine. Otherwise, although this may not be pay to “win” per se (or atleast sprockets are not yet game breaking as it is), I would rather call it premium unlockables, a milder version of pay to win. I have 6 stacks of sprockets in my bank (+2 stacks in storage) and I don’t know if I’ll ever need them in the future atm. I do think we might get access to sprockets all year round, since the LS season 1 is ending and we don’t know what the model of the game would be afterwards (I mean, would the past LS events become replayable or not?). So for now, be patient guys.

A bit of clarification, they were not humans, but they are in humanoid form. I don’t know if that should be the proper term used in Tyria, since it’s not only humans who walk with two legs and use their hands for tools, and based on the history of Tyria, they were not the first as well. Maybe “two-legs” termed by the Centauri perhaps? haha So the “gods” are two-legs. As to what their true/original form is, if their form reflects the race they have chosen to bless, I do not know.
As a side note regarding humans, one theory that I have is that humans in Tyria were originally humans from a future planet Earth. It’s either humans had an exodus from planet Earth or there was an experiment with warp drive technology, only the spacecraft ended up in Tyria. Lost not just in space, but also lost in another dimension.
