Make pets “equippable” (ie. pet armor, warpaint, etc, to make them “cooler” looking, as well as add another dimension of utility) and able to be fed as well (maybe changing attributes or skills). Make ranger pets interesting (since it’s a vital part of the ranger job class).

Maybe she did disobey the warnings of the guards in Zephyr Sanctum and got inside one way or another. But then Scruffy’s energy cells produced a slight, but significant, magical interference that reacted with the crystals inside, and KABOOM!

Addendum: Where do golems get their power source? Is it the same with the Zephyrite crystals? This makes me suspicious about the power source of Rata Sum itself.

I fell in love with the Labyrinthine Cliffs zone, wish they added this area permanently in Lion’s Arch, but seeing the Zephyr Sanctum getting blown up, that riled me up pretty good. I hope the Festival of the Four Winds is replayable or one of the unlockable episodes. I want to come here often, this might be my second “home” in Tyria, next to the Black Citadel.

Suggestion for Mystical Dragon Finisher

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

Please change the direction where the Mystical Dragon finisher is facing. Usually, finishers face the opponent, away from the player. Mystical Dragon on the other hand, faces the player, away from the opponent’s camera view. Well, showing your bare kitten to your opponent may be offensive to some people, so maybe that’s the reason why Mystical Dragon is facing backwards towards the opponent, to show it’s scaly kitten .

Maybe you can make a finisher where the animation is someone or something bowing towards you, but in the POV of the player, it is showing its kitten .

Retrofitting Season 1

Because of population issues of the maps, maybe they should overhaul the megaserver system for the LS1 maps, such as the Lornar’s Pass during Marionette event.

Maybe they could “destroy” LS instance maps from time to time and force payers out of the instance (every 2-3 hours or so), similar to EotM, to flush out those who remain in maps and to keep the population concentrated and not thinned out. One scenario that I could think of is that there would be 10 or more instance maps where there are 1-10 people in each of those maps waiting for another round (basically keeping those map instances alive), and 1 or 2 instances barely filling up because the other players are still waiting in the other instance maps (or just playing the instance like it’s an ordinary map, ie. farming, doing quests).

As “leader”, supreme and high mighty omnipotent overlord of the “biconics”, I’d like to be conversed as well, and my opinions and decisions be heard and revered by all in my majestic presence. I don’t like it when I am relegated as king, then ignored, snubbed, even ostracized in conversations of lesser beings, and by lesser beings I mean everyone else.

I don’t mind having no voice overs (although some voice overs here and there would be nice to give us an idea of what their voice could sound like, but then again, we can imagine it ourselves), if that is what it takes to have a meaningful and/or entertaining conversation with the NPCs.

Why wasn't the selfless potion available?

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

I think it’s because of the new LS replayability. I think this is how it works; if you enable a past LS episode, multiple maps are changed according to the current episode you enabled. That means Escape from Lion’s Arch episode changes the LA map as well as the surrounding maps (Bloodtide Coast, etc.). You will also meet people in those maps who enabled that particular episode. If you did not enable any past LS episode, you are either sent to the pre-LS version of the map, or the current LS version of the map (particularly in the Maguuma area in the next LS). So you can still get those potions, if that is how it will work. It may get confusing at first, but maybe from now on, party members or even guildmates are indicated not just by their location and world server, but also by the current episode he/she enabled.

People complained that megaservers prevented them from playing with guild members and people from their own worlds.

Now people are complaining that there are no EotM-like megaservers for events like these to consolidate the population that’s spread throughout the world servers (and timezones) and to make queuing possible. Make up your own minds people. XD

OK, maybe the option to join either a world server map instance or a megaserver map instance would be nice.

Don't Punish Returning Players

in Living World

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

They need to subconsciously “punish” players who stopped playing, so that they could condition these players to not leave Guild Wars 2, which in turn could provide them with revenue with your money, provided you will buy gems. Perhaps a certain percentage of the population buying gems is enough to sustain GW2, so what they need to do is to increase the players to increase the probability of gem buying. Even though the percentage of people that are buying gems does not change, the numbers however increases the possibility (or volume) of gems being bought, thus increasing their profit.

I do hope the LS2 lives up to expectations, or I’m going to be kittened, feeling ripped off lol. I have high hopes though. No more forcing statements down our throats please. Maybe make LS2 attractive for leveling up, I don’t know, EotM had become uplevel kindergarten. How about the rewards? Marionette reward system is good (in the sense that people feel they are actually getting something when they kill mobs), where you can get tokens and combine them to get a ‘key’ and then use that to open a chest depending on the key type. Tweaking this would be you get random rewards depending on chest type. Maybe make keys tradable (can it be abused though)?

PS. Please make LS1 replayable, or cycle the LS events again (as opposed to outright replayability of all events, so that the population will be concentrated on the events themselves).

Afterwards, you can join a group to challenge the boss yourself. Have fun bros. If you are one of those kids who want to zerg bosses because you think it’s easier because all you have to do is press 1 repeatedly, then kitten you. I hope anet doesn’t listen to you. @Taygus, they could join at the very last moment, at the burn period, but of course, not all people are professional soldiers in real life, so some might not follow the general consensus of the map. Maybe you can tell people to wait? I don’t know, but we can try and if that fails, we need to think of another way. Maybe constantly say people to wait at mid and then say they can join when it’s 10%? I know it sounds unfair for the others who did the work of killing the boss, but if that would help more than letting them build a zerg (and scaling up the boss), then let’s try it. We need to be noisy that people should wait, or go form a group to kill an open boss fight. Noisy but not rude, I’m guilty of being rude sometimes lol.

Steel Fenrir.2791

We can somehow organize like in the Marionette event. We can stand on the gates for the boss you would like to kill. For example, if you want to go kill Boom Boom Baines, stand in the north east gate, and if you want to go kill Wiggin, stand in the south west gate so we can have a group count. We need to “condition” people to do this. We dont have the physical barriers we had as “lanes” in the Marionette event and not all times we have 6 tags. Ofcourse some (if not most) people don’t have initiative to go to the gates, but if we make this a ‘trend’, an SOP, if we condition people to do this, we might have a better chance at this. For those who realize this, endure, and be patient, the zerg will learn. Also it helps to try to be nice. Nobody likes to follow someone who makes others look like they’re fools.

Steel Fenrir.2791

So I noticed we often couldn’t decide on a single plan at the start of the event (atleast for PUGs). So we need to formulate a general plan. For example, at the start, if going for:

- one whole zerg: start at north east boss (Sparcus), then rotate clockwise
- split the zerg into two: start at the east and west bosses then clock wise
- split the zerg into three: take the eastern bosses first then the west. Or take 1-3-5 first, then 2-4-6.

We need to agree on something and push through it so we can get organized even as PUGs, even without TTS baby sitting our kitten.

leaving lions arch ruined is stupid – in the story missions – you are fighting to protect a ruin – its breaking immersion big time

PS happened before LS1, so ANet could include an option to visit the “historical LA”, or whatever it could be called. I think it’s kind of confusing to new players if you just made your character now, but there are 2 map versions of LA, and Orr is still preparing to attack LA when it’s already pre-nuked by Scarlet. I don’t know how they will fix the PS to fit in the current flow of the game through LS. Maybe PS might just actually be a remembering/retelling of your first big dragon slaying adventure.

Steel Fenrir.2791

If the 5 racial cities would help rebuild LA, then it would be rebuilt faster, but then LA would lose it’s independence. Ofcourse the debt can be repaid in gold, but some might seek political favors instead. Dragon Bash v2 conspiracy? As long as LA is THE port city of Tyria, it will be rebuilt, maybe for the mean time people should relocate to another place for safety reasons, since the miasma might still be trapped in the spaces between the rubble. Also, since LA was nuked, people will start looking for another port to unload their goods. Dominion of the Wind perhaps? This is a great opportunity for the Tengu to capitalize on LA’s demise, although I doubt they would open their ports and city anytime soon.

I’d like to view the old LA as it once was. Could you please make it possible to revisit old LA (with a sad background music playing to boot)?

What I meant is that leading up to this update, I don’t feel like I deserve to called leader, nor was the other LS characters dependent on me to lead them. During LS1 I felt more of a fellow, and that the group really had no leaders. I don’t even know if they needed a leader, or was that just a retroactive addition to the story to appease the teenage demographics of Guild Wars 2? Well there’s Marjory leading the investigation, and I helped with each of the group’s personal endeavors, but I don’t know, I felt like my advice wasn’t really needed or felt my choices weren’t as important to be relegated as their ‘leader’.

While I’d like Ree to join the LS writing team, I don’t think it’s wise to have an overhaul of the writing team, for coherency and consistency reasons. I just want a little bit of Ree added to the “soup” to make it tastier. I know different ingredients mixed together could lead to a bad tasting soup (please bear with me on my analogies), but I have hopes this could lead to a much tastier soup. I’m not saying the soup is bad, nor do I question the passion of the writers. It’s just that, nothing else. Also I’d like to suggest hiring rookie writers from different cultural backgrounds. I think their contribution could add some unique flavor to the “soup”, although their vision of Tyria might conflict with the existing ones, I do think this is for the best of Tyria. I’ve always believed (lore-wise) that the Mists, the Ethernal Alchemy, the endless sea of aether, to be sentient, or atleast semi-sentient, and that the writers of Guild Wars are its other-wordly caretakers, shapers. Beyond the Mists, beyond the dreams. By adding rookie writers, you add chaos to the Mists. And from this chaos, you give birth to something new.

Please improve the rewards system so that it does not induce this kind of kittening kitten boring gameplay. Ofcourse people will want rewards, and they will tend to “zerg”, but really, what is Guild Wars 2? Should its gameplay devolve into a goat herd simulator where you graze from one place to another, hoping no pack of lions come their way and hoping all the people in that map instance are also goats. People will want rewards, will want the easy way out, and will tend to “zerg”, but I want a better game than acting like a herd of deer. And I know some people like to “act like a deer in a herd”, and some people like other (if not all) people to think like that so they can act out their commander fantasies in EZ mode, but if you tweak the reward system a little, you may entice these ‘deer thinkers’ to think better and to try being a ‘pack of lions’ instead. Let me emphasize again: zerg =/= goat herd, zerg == lion pack

Are you guys even aware of the decline of Bioware’s writing post Baldur’s Gate 2 era? And yet you want anet to emulate Bioware’s new lineup of fail writers? You want the game to become glorified fetch/gather quests, and in recent games, they focus on making statements rather than telling, showing, making you live a story? I could consider Mass Effect 1 from 2007 their last good attempt, but tell me, what recent game did they make that fleshed out their material to its fullest? They have good material, but used it poorly, is that how you want anet to emulate? Emulate another RGB ending? “It’s ok that we have bland, stretched out stories in our games, ’cause we have in-game sex; heterosex and homosex, heck even robosex!” They focused more on trying to incorporate edgy statements rather than a story where the game will revolve around. Make the story expand the game. Stop it with focusing on making forced statements and start telling a story.

OK at the very least, I enjoyed ME’s character dialogue. I never left the Normandy without checking up on my allies first. Maybe anet could catch up to that, make the LS characters “addicting” to talk to, and nope the quaggan couple can go if they won’t improve. “Calibrations!” In GW2, it would be “Apples!” So much potential.

Can anyone use magic?

in Lore

Posted by: Steel Fenrir.2791

Steel Fenrir.2791

I think everyone has a varying amount of inherent magical power. In Guild Wars 1, you use the Eye of Janthir to identify the “Chosen”, which later on the storyline you will find out those Chosen are actually going to be sacrificed for the Mursaat. My theory is that the Eye of Janthir is actually a device to measure the inherent magical power of people. I don’t know the nature of ritual sacrifices in the world of Guild Wars, but I have a strong hunch, a theory, that all living things have “aether”, sort of like a spirit or soul, with some having a stronger aether than others. I don’t know how to quantify the strength of the aether of living things, but the Charr sacrificed thousands of humans to conjure the Searing, which wiped out Ascalon in Guild Wars 1. I think it has something to do with aether itself being hard to manipulate. It is only when it is tied to living creatures that you could manipulate it. It’s hard to explain why it has to be “attached” to a living creature to manipulate it. I surmise that if one gains access to the aether itself, one could conjure the Searing or the Cataclysm all day, everyday. Even the so-called “gods”, I’m not so sure if they can tap into this river of aether so readily and easily. Maybe the aether is not just the essence of life, but also the essence of reality? It is the soul of the worlds (including the Mists)?

The loyalty missions were the most interesting parts of ME and DA, I agree with you on that. I also noticed that lacking aspect in the LS of GW2. There’s no bonding with the LS characters. But the general feel of DA and ME? A glorified “collect this and that, gather this and that” quest. Oh noes, the Archdemon/Reapers are coming! Quickly, collect the dragon balls! Also your ally has some daddy issues and you can now be gay. Gay is the in thing right now. Maybe cancer will be the next theme in RPGs.

Another thing, I remember seeing a lame student walking with crutches in our school, and yet I see him as if nothing is wrong with him and even smiles while talking to others. Despite his disability, he was trying to finish his college studies. That memory when I saw him while I was on my way to class made me grateful for what I have right now and not take things for granted, and he actually inspires me to this day even though I don’t know him. Yet Taimi is supposed to make me feel the same way as I saw that student long ago. I am not talking about the writer’s intentions, I’m talking about the similarity of the situation of Iron Girl and him. There’s something wrong, something lacking. I like it that she could become a real inspiration as well, even though she is just a fictional character, but I can’t seem to pinpoint what’s missing in the formula.

Could they bring back Ree to the writing team? It feels like they are trying hard to become “Bioware”. Do you guys think that’s the “in” thing right now? Do you seriously think Dragon Age or even Mass Effect writing is good? Dragon Age story sucks. It’s as tasteless as watery soup. That goes for Mass Effect as well. They did have some interesting parts. The lore was interesting as well, but their execution was bland. The overall general feel, it’s like a short story stretched out to cover a novel. Don’t emulate them. Be real. Don’t put firstworldproblems into the game as well. Who the kitten cares about lesbo/gay BS? You want to be political? Then cover sexual violence, massacre, and torture into your story. Now that’s some Game of Thrones political fantasy realism right there. Going through the Norn personal story, I’ve encountered several Icebrood minions, one of which is an “Icebrood Norn” (pictured below). As you may have known, the elder dragons are capable of corrupting living and non-living things with their magic, and when it corrupts living things, most of the time, the corrupted usually retain their general physical form and shape, whether it be undead, branded, or icebrood, heck even the destroyers take on the form of their former selves. But the Icebrood Norn took on an interesting form, that of a trent, a creature associated with spirits. So it made me wonder, is the current form of Norns their original form? What about Svanir, he changed to bear form, and permanently stayed that way? Does that mean they could change their appearance to anything they want to? What could the Norn’s true form be? And if so, why do they take on the form similar to humans in appearance?

I was planning to buy a Tartarus myself, but seeing this thread made me have second thoughts. My only definite advise is to give the dodge function more importance than the jump function. Map the dodge function to where you usually map the jump button. Dodging is a very crucial aspect of this game, especially in PvP. If you can, map your configuration so you can move and dodge at the same time. I had my space bar mapped to dodge, instead of jump.

They need to implement 2 things:
1. Ability to visit “historical Lion’s Arch” (before it was nuked)
2. Make the LS replayable, or recycle them (ie. January-February : Dragon Bash, March-April : Southsun, etc.) so that new players and returning old players can experience what they had missed in the past.

One way to implement this is to have multiple versions of maps, similar to how Lion’s Arch could be implemented; by having a present day version and a “historical version”. Maybe you can get books from the Durmand Priory to trigger the maps before entering them.

I like that they are adding variety to the maps. I don’t mind maps with underwater battles, or Skyhammer. My only gripe with Skyhammer map is the area where you fight for control of Skyhammer siege. Maybe increase the battle area a little more perhaps?

Maphacks and other hacks being used in PvP

Sometimes I wonder, while watching hot join PvP I realized that all player positions are being broadcasted to spectators. Then I remembered that in Starcraft 2, even though there’s fog of war preventing players from knowing the enemy units’ position in-game, all unit positions are actually being broadcasted to all players constantly. With a third party program, a “map hack”, a tool that intercepts and analyzes packets received, you can see where the enemy units are located in the map, as if there was no fog of war in the first place.

I wonder then if the netcode of Guild Wars 2 is similar in design, such that all player locations are continuously being streamed/broadcasted to all players, but you only see players on the map near you. But with a third party program, you could see the other players’ position in the map, even though they are far away, just like a spectator.

Also, as most of you already know (except maybe if you are new to the internet and MMORPGs in general), there are hacks in Guild Wars 2 that instantly teleports you to a desired point in the map, but most of the evidence suggests it happens in WvW and PvE. So by logic, it is most likely that it can be used and was used by other players in sPvP.

With this, I had 2 requests. If the netcode was as I have suspected, fix it so that player connections is different from spectator connections. Another is to find a way in general to combat teleport hacks.

Just tell them they are worms, and they should remember it or remind them what they really are. These people value their bragging rights more than their character. Don’t give them any respect for they have a twisted sense of honor. Don’t give them the recognition they crave and desire, and speaking of which, like they say, it’s probably best to ignore.
