That is no excuse. Being CPU bound doesn’t mean everyone has to deal with poor performance. I shouldn’t have to have a 3930k OC to 4.8 like yours to get good frames, that is just ridiculous.
Crysis 3 is also NOT totally GPU bound. Crysis 3 uses hyperthreading very efficiently.
The point was that Crysis 3 is supposed to be(at ultra settings) very demanding on computers. GW2 at low settings in a zerg will be demanding no matter what your pc is.
Your PC DJRiful is probably over $3000 to build(or more). Is this the market that GW2 is aiming for? Does the average user need to have a 3k system OC to almost 5ghz to play many of GW2’s features?
The engine is broken, anyone who denies this is just a fanboi defending anet at this point. The numbers don’t lie..

I dont think you can be a fanboy of ANY processor company in regards to the travesty that is GW2.
I have pretty much given up on Anet regarding performance.
Noone should have to get a i7 3770k to play this game, that is just kittening ridiculous.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Kelliak I am starting to feel the same way.
It has been almost 6 months to the day since launch and they haven’t fixed a single performance related issue. I include culling as well.
I waited soooo long for GW2 to come out and with the hype it had, I was hooked.
6 months of countless threads on their “official” page regarding this issue and 0 response from this supposed community driven company.
If they release an expansion without fixing the original GW2, then I guarantee that I will not be buying it. This includes gem sales. 0 dollars from me(and many many many other people as well).
Ah well Crysis 3 is taking my time right now anyways. Maybe I will uninstall the game, save myself some SSD space and wait until there is some sort of a patch. ESO does look interesting and I am going to google Wildstar right now
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
I wouldn’t hold my breath regarding any news at all. Maybe I should look on reddit, that seems to be where all the dev’s post official information…

GW is unplayable unless you OC that baby.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Being overworked is a bunch a bull crap. Most people in society as a whole are overworked but the world is still spinning.
You bolded the ARE. What is your proof? Anet has been absurdly silent on ALL performance issues with GW2.
Being overworked is not an excuse and being silent about it is; in most people’s minds, an admission that they will NOT be doing ANYTHING at all regarding performance.
See I can use CAPS too.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
So I just got Crysis 3. With my old antiquated OC CPU and my beast of a GPU I was thinking I would be playing it a la slide show. Much to my surprise even cranked with my crappy X6 I still have 25fps with everything maxed.
On that note, I was thinking about how beautiful Crysis 3 is from a technical standpoint. The particle effect especially. If Crysis 3 was made to make people’s PC’s burn up then what is GW2?
I know comparing apples to oranges is wrong but I can’t help but think that if a game like Crysis 3, which is supposed to be a tower melter runs well with the same hardware that runs GW2 like mediocre crap then maybe this whole post is validated.
I know I will have to get a new board and cpu(currently debating my options) but there is absolutely no denying that GW2 is one of the most unoptimized AAA games in existence.
10-15 fps dragon events are driving me away from that part of the game completely. I don’t do WvW because I can’t stand the slideshows. LA is laughable when you 1st zone in and think that you inadvertently hit the wrong WP because of the water.
I feel ripped off because a large part of the game is non playable(WvW). Does anet really expect everyone to have a 3770k oc to 4.5ghz in order to play WvW? I know they are working on the culling but I shouldn’t have to fight placeholder stickfigures. Esport be kitten until performance gets addressed.

I have read that going into the Documents folder/GuildWars2 and deleting the local.dat file helps. You can try defragging if your not using a SSD. The ~repair function might work for you as well. I hope that helps

You can turn reflections down to terrain and sky, that should help if your not already using that setting. Overclocking is the biggest performance boost that you can get for this game really.
There is also Razer Game booster

This application should help if your running unnecessary system processes.
A few things off of the top of my head, hope that helps some.

We are almost approaching 6 months since release.
Substandard framerates for a AAA title this long after launch is totally unacceptable.
Many others in the community are VERY frustrated with Anets’ lack of any statement regarding what most consider a game breaking issue.
I have seen ZERO responses from any moderator on this site or perhaps their official forum(reddit) regarding performance issues.

Ya I have pretty much given up on any performance patches. I will do my dailys and move on to other games.
The 360 porting is probably what they had envisioned when they were modding the gw1 client.
I can pretty much guarantee that they will not rewrite any code for dx11, nor will they rewrite any code for multi-threading performance gains. It would cost too much money. Besides they are busy putting Quaggan backpacks in the TP
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
The water under LA is hilarious. I have loaded into LA and have seen the water before the ground textures load.

It is pretty sad really.

Your right about tricore 6-8ghz tho. That is exactly what it would need. Maybe an x3 on liquid hydrogen?
If I lived on the other side of the continent I would go for sure. I think that asking them over and over is the only way to get their attention.
They have had 0 posts from devs regarding this issue.
It is pretty sad really since the game has a ton of potential

I have the shaders cranked and shadows cranked and I noticed that the big big rendering issue is the reflections.
Toss the reflections down from all and it helps bigtime.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
I still think both companies are very good and really it comes down to price lol.
I kinda wish I had of gotten the GTX670 instead of the 680oc and saved myself 100 bucks.
The major issue is GW2 is fracking terribad clientside. It doesnt matter if you have 2x gtx 690 sli, your still going to get kitten poo performance unless your running a freakin cray!
Anet needs to get off their kitten and stop with the meet and greets and start working on this client!
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Like Jazhara said the cpu is most likely holding back your gpu.
Anet needs to stop with meet and greets and start working on performance issues asap.
I for one am playing significantly less(ty skyrim dragon born
OC that cpu and you will see a difference. What cooler do you have for it?
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
The game is currently unplayable in WvW zergs and dragon events unless you have a 4.4+ghz cpu. Having that clock speed is attainable only via overclocking.
This is unacceptable for any title.
Well just lower the graphics if that is the case. Since my new computer, i don’t have any lag in a dragon event. I’ve also started WvW and it’s pretty nice. i’m not dropping below 40 fps. And my cpu is only 4.0 ghz without overclocking. But yeah if you take all the time the highest settings as default reference, nobody can ever play this game at a correct speed. Lower your standards, and the game will run smooth like butter.
Lowering graphics is irrelevant. I use a GTX 680 OC and even with subsampling and all low settings the WvW zergs and dragon events are not usually 30fps+. This has nothing to do with GPU at all it is all CPU.
Lowering my standards for a AAA title that encourages large scale events basically shows how flawed the game is.
I have 0 complaints when it comes to PVE performance but the zergfest which is GW2 is broken.
It seems that Anet doesn’t care either since there has been 0 updates for this issue and 0 response from this company which is supposed to show great customer relations with its community.
It feels like Anet is simply waiting for the tick/tock cycle to continue to “patch” these issues via new cpu purchases.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
I dont know what kind of systems they used for internal testing but whatever it was…
Anet uses their own proprietary software. There is a video discussing what they used for client/server data sheets.
Often proprietary software takes time to not only develop but to correctly implement. There are a ton of issues with GW2 and I can only hope that the last 4 months or more have been allocated towards making the game run the way it was meant to be.
The game is currently unplayable in WvW zergs and dragon events unless you have a 4.4+ghz cpu. Having that clock speed is attainable only via overclocking.
This is unacceptable for any title.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
If mandatory overclocking of CPU’s is the status quo for Anet to address performance issues regarding computers with unplayable frames well above minimum requirements then this has to be the most poorly optimized game in history.
I have never seen a game that demands users to overclock their CPU’s in order to get acceptable framerates. By acceptable I mean at least 30 fps.
I have gone on and on regarding how poorly this game is designed, coded and optimized.
Anet has given ZERO information regarding any kind of performance update with the exception of culling for WvW.
Advertising system requirements that are really a joke is downright despicable if they don’t make changes to this game.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932

laptops are not ideal for GW2. Even high performance desktops have issues in wvw and large events.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
I agree with Megido with the exception that there IS something that can be done on their side. Optimize the game for frack sakes! It has been months and the game still runs like crap in wvw and events.
Do NOT get your hopes up that there will be any patches to improve performance.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
The windforce cards are awesome. I have a GTX 680 oc windforce and I love it. Quiet, very very cool and powerful!
If you go ATI or nVidia and get a windforce you will be ok. I have used both manufacturers for years and the hardware for both are pretty close. I do like nVidia driver suites better than AMD but that is my personal preference.
As for your question regarding size of Vram. It really depends on what resolution your planning to run the game in. 2GB is always good and unless your going for Eyeinfinity then I wouldnt get the 4gb cards.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
It does sound like it is the culling issue. Anet really needs to look at optimizations before doing things like Quaggan backpacks…
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
There have been some improvements in WvW culling apparently. An 8150 running at that clock should be playing with acceptable framerates. With that GTX 680 you could run supersampling(depending on resolution.
What fps were you getting before?
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
For some of us we are on limited bandwidth. Having patch sizes listed in the patch notes would be fantastic.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
So your saying there are 0 issues with performance because of the engine? Just wait till the 5ghz hexa cores become normal for the game to run smoothly? What an absurdity. I agree that they cheaped out on reusing the GW1 engine but it was a huge mistake.
“Lets make a game with 100 people all fighting a big big battle, like a dragon !!!”
“But our engine can’t handle it”
“Don’t worry by the time technology catches up in 2015 it will be fine! Moar zergs!”
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
They might know their engine better than we do but we also have to put up with lackluster performance.
GW2 has serious performance issues that cannot be ignored. They made a critical mistake using their modified GW1 engine and since they didn’t implement DX11/10 support, they are paying for it now.
What Jazhara Knightmage.4389 stated is 100% accurate.
Get the fanboy a coffee so he can wake up and see reality.

There is a myriad of sites on the internet that can help you with overclocking your cpu. My biggest recommendation is to invest on a very good cooler and make sure your case has great airflow.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
Dx11 will help performance.. ok it will slightly improve the graphics quality ..or if they so desired hugly imporve it. But realisticly they would move ot Dx11 and not use the extra eye candy and instead just use the more efficient Engine.
Dx11 actually has a slightly lower CPU usuage as it shifts more to the GPU. This means it would be very good for GW2 as GW2 is VERY CPU bound atm. Will they do it ? ..possibly. Will they do it soon.. doubtfull.
100% agree with this. GW2 uses and antiquated API and engine. I have a 0% hope for any performance updates until at least 2014.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
I was wondering if there is a setting that I am missing so when I pan the camera with the right mouse button, I don’t accidentally click on something else to change my target. ie npc other party member etc. It is unbelievably annoying and I really hope that either this will be fixed or there is some setting that I am missing.
intel 335 180gb/intel 320 160gb WD 3TB Gigabyte GTX G1 970 XFX XXX750W HAF 932
What I do with my 680 to maintain high usage is go to the Nvidia Control Panel. Under global settings(or gw2 if you want this only for that game), then power management mode.Change it to prefer maximum performance. This should make the GPU run at higher clocks. Are you using supersampling? With a 680 you should be able to use supersampling, it looks great and will help your gpu use its potential.

Jazhara Knightmage.4389 pretty much nailed it.
As for DX9 ports to consoles, it would seem that is pretty much a pipe dream now since next gen consoles will not be using that API.
I have little to no faith that DX11 will be implemented.Ever.
I get the feeling Anet will wait for CPU clocks to catch up.
Open GL would be great but, again I don’t see them doing that either, unless of course you can buy DX11 and OpenGL support with gems from the TP

Try to use the -repair command for the executable.
f you are having problems running Guild Wars 2, the data archive may have become corrupted. Please follow these steps to verify and repair the archive:
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.
Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete.
Note: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. If you would like to play the game immediately without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command.

You can try to use the ~repair function to see if that helps. Are you using a standard rpm hard drive or a SSD? If your using a mechanical harddrive try to defrag. If you have good cooling on that 2500k you can also overclock once you get these issues resolved
What is your Powersupply? I has similar issues and purchased a new PSU and problems were gone
