Ruby Orichalcum Ring: +67 Power: +48 Precision: +3% Critcal Damage
The difference is so miniscule that I even wonder if the ruby ring is better altogether while the new ascended ring is good for drops.
You can´t compare 2 different sets of stats, that´s like comparing oranges and apples.
The image itself compares the rings with same stat distributions, and is basicly what made this kittentrom happen.
Also, no matter what the difference is now, it´s a start and step towards something a lot of us don´t want to head towards.
Eh?
You guys are worried about damage altogether right? Seems to me, by eyeballing, the one with more dps is the ruby.
No, we´re worried about stats and general power they bring.
That ring is just one item, and it shows there´s difference between exotic and ascended gear.
What makes you think the same doesn´t apply to ruby ring and it´s counterpart ascended one?

One other thing, eventually when full ascended armor is introduced it will make exotic dungeon/crafted armor obsolete, this is a big concern. Maybe when they add full ascended armor gear they should also rework all dungeons to include agony mechanics.
Why is it a problem, when all gear can be transmuted? As I see it, even now, dungeons are just skin collecting. I have my exotics already, then it’s just a matter of collecting the skins and stat distributions that I’m after.
Dungeons offered way to gain those stat distributions, one way of getting max level gear.
Now enter ascended gear, nobody can just do dungeon and get gear they want, they need to do new dungeon to get the stats and old dungeons to get the looks.
“Need to do” — I don’t see the problem here. All the content is fun, so I think I’d re-phrase that as “Get to do”, or “Have incentive to do”.
Did you see the amount of advertisement on how we could play the game how we wanted, how game wouldn´t revolve around getting better gear and how all of the game was supposed to be end game.
Now they introduce one single way of getting maximum stats, and which from the looks of it seems to be gated behind a gear progression treadmill….
Content being fun was incentive enough, getting better looks was fun and incentive enough. Content they released on halloween update was fun and we got to do it.
Doing content just because it´s only thing you can get maximum stats is needing to do the content.

Am I to assume that all of the people that hate getting new gear so much are still in the gear they hit 80 in? Because if you complain about “being forced” to get new gear in order to stay on par, then you must have hated it then too. Right?
I’m not against getting gear. Heck I’m not even against the concept of slightly more difficult than Exotic gear to get even though it’s far mroe costly than it should to try multiple builds as it is currently.
What I’m against is “kick in the balls” effect where all the work I did to get the best available gear on the promise that it’d remain the best available forever was undone in a single patch and I’m left with some dead weight gear and no money.
That’s the thing though, the “best available gear” today isn’t always the “best available gear” tomorrow. Even if it’s just different stats on armor being introduced. If you wanted a set with Power/HP/Condition rather than the set you currently have of Power/HP/Toughness you would still have to get new gear when it came out.
New stat distributions wouldn´t force you to upgrade your gear.
Your old gear would be just as effective, not worse than anythingnew, just different.
Having different stats on gear would make new builds viable though, and therefore add more gameplay.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
I too am happy with new armor tiers, I don’t see how people are getting so bent out of shape for, seriously yes you will have to likely transmute into your armor, its YOUR choice to spend money in a cash shop, or just do your dailies….or heck even start another toon and just complete a few maps, I have something like 50 transmutation stones from just normal progression….no one is twisting your arm to spend money on cash shop its you that choose to be lazy and make the purchase.
Nobody complains about having to transmute…we complain about the powercreep.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Better looks? Rare cultural gear has better looks than most exotics.
Different Stat combinations? It would still just be exotic gear.
Infusion slot? That’s practically the only major difference, plus minor stat increases.
Stat increase is kitten we don´t want. It creates a new maximum, which leads power creep.
Arena net advertised the game to be free of that godawful thing, but now they´re backing away from their statements.
Cultural armors are perfect example how it should be, just about the looks.
Different stat distributions on items would retain the power level, avoid power creep, make new playstyles viable prolonging players interest in games and giving us horizontal progression.
Just having infusion slot would keep the impact of that new ger just where it was implemented, in that new dungeon.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
If it had the same exact stats are exotics then what would be the difference?
Better looks? Different stat combinations? Infusion slot? Prestige?
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
lol, They have seen the exact same response to their class nerfs, actually they see an incredible amount of negativity after each content update, but its as I said before they will just take the responses with a grain of salt, because with every complaint there is probably 2-3 positive responses….or it could be vice versa, no real way to tell. In anycase as I stated before I’m looking forward to more gear and more content, it makes me wonder how far Anet will take this….now if they would only work at their armor designs to accompany these new tiers of armor and possibly future releases. Come on anet do NOT just improve stats, give the sets appearances worthy of being between exotic and legendary tier.
I say do NOT improve stats, just make them look like they are the next step.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
The thing that I find the funniest here is that all of this feedback from the community is based on speculation. Nobody has even seen anything other than a RING kitten
I find that it sends pretty clear message:
We don´t want that kitten, not even in a 1 bloody ring.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Change the stats on the ring to…
48 power
48 precision
7% magic find
18 power
18 precision
infusion slot
—-This is all it would take for 99% of the complaints on this board to vanish. By changing five numbers, I just did a better job at pleasing the community than Linsey Murdock’s entire team, and I don’t even have my bachelor’s yet.
As a loyal Guild Wars player, I implore you – let me keep my current gear and work for things to ADD to my arsenal rather than REPLACE parts of it. If I wanted to constantly work for better gear, I could do it a heck of a lot cheaper in Aion – which I left to try to get AWAY from.
Well said my friend.

I need a new staff of troll destruction.
New gear, new stuff, new zones, and new monsters are good….. in fact they are great and when they are free…….
…..They are aweeesooommmme!!! I love it Anet. Keep up the good work.
They indeed are, and nobody is against any of that.
We´re brandishing our pitchforks against that +1 tied to it, which very well may become +10 next year.
New content is good, different stat distributions are good, new skins are good…
Having new gear that´s strictly just statisticaly better than old is what begins a gear threadmill, and is frankly a terrible idea.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
The ‘MMO Manifesto’ is looking more like an ’MMO Rough Guideline".
Let’s be clear, a Manifesto is merely a declaration of intentions, motives and perspectives by the author…. not a binding contract that locks them into a set of conditions.
I thought it actualy was a manifesto…
Sadly it seems to have been just an advertiesement…and as usual they don´t seem to deliver everything advertised.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
So just because they add new content with a few upgrades to equipment they’re trying to steal players from other games? They’re trying to imitate that horrible kitten game that just imitated everything before it?
Get a kitten clue man. WoW was not the first MMO and it is definitely not the best. Nor will it last forever. Times changes; games get new content. Just because there’s a little vertical progression doesn’t mean it’s going to destroy anything.
Who’s to say this won’t just turn into a diagonal progression then flatter back out to horizontal?
It´s a start of vertical progression, we don´t want vertical progression…at all.
And neither did they when they were trying to sell their game pre-launch. funny thing is that we actualy believed them.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Considering the entire Manifesto was about options, and the new gear is not mandatory, there was no lie.
Nothing is “mandatory.” You can run around WvW in a set of blues. Have fun with that.
Considering WvW ends up devolving into a game of number of players fielded in an area, its not difficult to do at all….. I still don’t have any Exotic Accessories, and hold my own no problem. I’ve leveled two characters in WvW no problem….
WvW is not a 1v1 scenario, it’s no SPvP and was never balanced….. Ascended Gear will make no difference whatsoever to it.
Infact, you can’t even customize Ascended gear to your playstyle, where as you can with Exotics through upgrade slots…. That’s more valuable to a WvW player.
Additionally, WvW is an entirely different beast as it doesn’t fully rely on individual stats. In the end it always breaks down into mobs of players fighting.
Ascended gear will barely have any effect whatsoever in WvW. It never was equal, and never will be.
There are items already in game that are more useful anyways, and its not like every WvW player has them. Take a look at the Tri-Forge Pendant.
+40 Power
+40 Precision
+40 Toughness
+40 Vitality
+5% Critical Damage
+40 Healing Power
+40 Condition Damage
+ Upgrade slotDoesn’t this item alone already effect game balance? It provides bonuses to all stats and has a slot for upgrades… where the complaints for it?
That is just one pendant, we are talking about a whole separate tier on it own here, the different is huge.
This one item set its own precedent, and is no way equal to any other items in the game…. it already outweighs the benefits from the item in the new tier we’ve already seen…. and it can be upgraded…. This new tier cannot….
The thing with this pendant is, that it doesn´t give you more power anywhere specific.
Most builds that are worth anything focus on few key attributes and excel in that area. Those builds need points in those specific stats to get better, not stats sprinkled eveywhere, which that pendant does. It might be better for some few builds, but in most cases players would prefer to invest more heavily on one or 2 stats offered, not in everything. This means that the pendant is in most cases not strictly better than exotics, it´s just different.
The ascended gear seems to stick to same stat distribution as normal one, and it has the upgrades built in, it provides boost in the key stats builds are based on so it´s almost always strictly better than any of it´s exotic counterparts.

imagine if this was a monthly sub game? i would love to see how many would have hit the unsubscribe button over this.
i think i would have.
I would if the update comes out as it sounds.
Now all i´m able to do is to stop purchaisng gems untill i see how it turns out.
The image included in the blogpost struck me like a fist in the stomach…gear with more stats than current maximum amounts, make that happen and i´m out of here.
Infusion mechanic, fair enough
I don´t mind having this in game, though i do have some concerns shared by mutliple people here. But still this could work, and it only affects the part of the game it´s included in.
Gear power creep.
I don´t want to see this happen, not at all. No matter how small of upgrade it is, this is terrible idea, and will backfire horribly. I´ve seen other games i love being destroyed by it, i don´t want to see it happen here.
I can´t understand how they have even considered, this. They are going against everything they said before launch, against everything they stated was their philosophy on this. There´s many better ways to introduce the feel of gear progression, how the hell they ended up with this is beyond me…
They could add different combinations of stats, new stats like %chance for effect x, differentaition in base weapon power brackets, increase in irrevelevant stats like magic find or gold find, make up other irrelevant stats for example exp gain, stats that only affect the said dungeon like lightbringer skills in nightfall. add more skins that are between normal and legendaries…..anything but power creep.
I dearly hope they won´t go through with this.
And i´m certain that i won´t, if it ships as it´s portrayed now, i´m out.

Teleports work like Shadow Steps in this game similar to GW1. You can only teleport if the place you want to go is within X units of pathfinding to the destination. So you can teleport to a floor above you, but only if you’re somewhere near the stairs. If the game can’t pathfind to where you want to go, it won’t teleport you.
Hope this clears it up.
Wrong. Or atleast bugged if that´s right.
It frequently doesn´t let you flash up stairs even if your at the bottom of them, also smaller elevations/cliffs on map seem to make it problematic to flash up/down them.
In general, flat ground works and low angles of elevarion work, but anything other than that is just testing your luck.
As for if it´s intended or not….nobody can really tell.

i see plenty of elementalist on staff in WvW. probably half of ones i see is on staff. other half is S/D, rarely D/D. i wouldnt know what traits they run but i went glasscannon on ele for WvW on staff. >.> screw support aoe everyyyythhhiinngg
In wvw your own survivability doesn´t matter as you can always find a wall of friendlies to put between you and foes, unless you´re melee range which is why d/d is fairly rare.
Also staff which normaly is harder to play with (atleast that´s the public opinion, i don´t agree though) suddenly becomes easiest just because it has range and aoe.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
This one´s pretty fun. As is his other build.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Because elementalist was designed to survive with active defense: cc, mobility and shield skills.
If that´s working is a whole different debate.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
It would be all fine and well if they balanced damage around other melee weapons and then added armor bonus that brought ele armor to be on par with either medium or heavy depending on weapon.

Gluph of storms, and/or lightning hammer.
Both are ridiculously powerful in pve.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Water elemental does it´s job in dungeons too…kinda.
It usualy is able to cast it´s heal and/or frozen gorund before falling, so it fills it´s role alright.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
As for not dying — you should be able to win against two ordinary enemies pretty straightforwardly. Kill one, heal up, and finish killing the other.
To frustration that way leads.
It´s possible to learn to survive many many many mobs, quite easily in fact, so never try to tackle em one by one….it´s just slow and boring as hell.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
More supportive builds:
0/0/0/30/30, focus on healing and support, last 10 can be pretty much anything.
0/0/0/20/30, less focus on healing, but still supportive as hell, last 20 points can go anywhere again.
Personaly i use 20/0/0/20/30, nice support and i can easily solo with it too, so i don´t have to switch traits constantly.
More info is readily available in other places, or if you ask.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
In large groups in WvW, it’s completely about the staff. Attacking structures, defending them, etc. Meteor storm and healing rain alone are amazing.
That’s…. really it though. It has a few other uses but I have seen very few other instances where staff was superior to D/D, S/D, S/F
How about any group support role, dungeons, large events, general zergging….?
Soloing with staff is on par with any other weapon too, different but just as effective.Staff is pretty awesome weapon….i don´t understand how people get the idea that it sucks at just about everything.
Group support maybe, but only if it’s a group 10+
It’s terrible for dungeons. Seriously if you use it in dungeons you’re one of the reasons people are reluctant to take elementalists. Scepter/Focus is far superior in dungeons, offering more damage, more CC, and more utility.
I’m not sure which “large events” you’re talking about. If you mean the big events in Orr that spawn tons of mobs then D/D and S/D are much better as with a staff you won’t be able to tag that many mobs due to cooldowns/longer cast times.
I´ve never had any trouble tagging mobs with staff, none whatsoever.
More CC?…what are you smoking? because i want that kitten too.
S/F
-3s chill singel target
-2s daze aoe
-2s KD single target
Staff
-5×2s chill aoe
-4×2s stun aoe
-KB single target
-5×2s cripple aoe
-2s immobilize aoe
Focus keeps yourself alive better, staff keeps everyone alive better.
Also, having 10-20 stacks of might on everyone starts pretty fast outweights(far before 10+ players…) any extra damage you could deal with scpeter, even in glasscannon build. Couple that with infinite regeneration(condition removal with it if you´ve specced for it), and ability to heal everyone nearly to full twice over without even accounting finishers from other players.
Well, staff players aren´t the thing that makes people reluctant to take eles, bad ele players are.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Problem with training mobs is that they lose aggro far too easy, especialy when trying to manover with ele.
Grenth room is nice for mob density, but i was wondering if theres´s similiar places that you can aggro even more enemies in one go.
Event´s are not optimal for my purposes as there´s too many people around them usualy, making it impossible to solo.
Also the aoe caps and such don´t really matter either, as i´m trying to find a place to try how much i can survive rather than farm.

Holy crap. I just YouTube’d the Quip. Seriously for some “end-game” weapons, they are pretty disappointing.
Yeah.
They´re basicly just ego boosters, pretty much like obsidian armor in gw1, many had it but didn´t like it all that much.
Though if you want the looks and the ego boost, go for the gargoyle scythe staff, eternal rest is the pve name i think. It´s propably rarest weapon in game right now, because we don´t actualy really know where it drops from.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Well, you couldgo for gargoyle scythe staff, or the crossing, or any of the normal skins…you know, pick anything you like.
You may have noticed, but legendaries are often things that don´t mesh with all armor choices…hell even most of the armor choices in some cases. That´s good though since if they did mesh with everything, they´d be rather bland now wouldn´t they?
….still, i can´t help but feel sorry for all pistol users…Quip, seriously
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
If you pick up minor/major sigils just see if they sell well on tp, if not put them on. Same for pretty much every upgrade type.
Also i´d advice on keeping the gems, if you´re planning on doing jewelcrafting at any point.
I still haven´t bothered to get upgrades for my armor even though i´m 80…though that´s mainly because my armor is just crap i picked up during levelling.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
You have a point about the extension thing but I guess it just bugs me about how short the boon duration is. I dont think It’d be OP if it lasted a few seconds more.
Ah, I forgot about the vulnerability. I don’t combo projectiles out of frost fields very often. I’ll remember that.
While auramancer’s mass frost armor will be much more efficient, this combo is free for any build with blasts. Well, not so free, most of the time it’s better to either 3blast water field, either 3blast fire field.
Eles don’t have that much reliable projectile finishers, but lightning and frost combo works miracle with something like unload thief, rangers, etc.
I like dropping those near pack of ranged classes while doing champion abomination, almost guaranteed 25stack of vulnerability on it or chill. With these above in mind, we should always look into possibility of other profession’s combo finishers before dropping our fields.
Blasting your water field, or asking thief or warrior to blast your fire field will lend your party 25 stacks of might or much needed heal.
This will require good coordination, but totally worth it.
Chill is kinda useful, butthe vulnerability is completely useless because it stacks intensity.
It´s so short that what vulnerability is gained fades before next shot lands, or in case of rapid fire things, it´s gone second after the last projectile hits.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
And i stand corrected. Well done. Wouldnt ever think of blinds through storm. My issue would be using 70s long cd’s to pull those fights out. And you agroed 6 mobs at a time in grenth room. And why arent u using trait to expand staff aoe?
If my computer could handle fraps id show u what thief can do in 10s. Pull entire supply camp veterans (but need to LOS ranged mobs so they come to u) and melt em.
Thiefs deal huge amounts of damage, that´s not news.
And eles can´t really mach their burst. However i can still solo those camps aswell, even if it takes a bit longer, even though i use support build.
As for staff traits, i prefer the vigor on crit one. I just don´t normaly need my aoes any bigger, i can fit most packs on my lavafont just fine as is. Extra vigor also gives me more chances to dodge, and with evasive arcana every dodge translates to another combo, normaly might or heal.
True i rely on pretty long cooldowns there, but i wouldn´t normaly be playing the ele way it was not supposed to be played. I don´t really need the storm or arcane shield in normal encounters when i can dodge around. Fights also go faster then as i get more stacks of might.
I actualy contemplated on doing another try with the room and pulling everything, but then i thought that would be pretty stupid move, when it´s so easy to do the way i did. I´m pretty confident i could pull that off, but i won´t deny it wouldn´t be a bit challenging.

Strang. If it is not targetting russians, then why all the dredge names and places all use transliterated russian words? Post-soviet countries have a lot of languages of their own. Your point is invalid.
“Neither is Russia a race, it´s a nation. No race, no racism.” – Ok, nacism then.
What I am saying is, if stereotypes are ok, jabbing at specific nation is ok, then whats the point in trying to make all players be good to each other? The game clearly encourages inequality and disregard for other people feelings (as in – western people find dredge ok and funny, even if it is offensive for russian players, and no one seems to mind). Maybe we all should take a page out of your book and consider asuran troubles hilarious, laugh and point fingers.
Names?
No, they´re not all russian words. Not even most are.
There´s ukranian, czechish and serbian names/places, name dropping of some devs, famous writers names, puns about moles with slavic twist….
The jab i´m about is the similiarity of dredge culture to soviet union, or atleast western intertpretation of it. It´s a jabs at soviet union not russia, not russians. And it´s a jab only if you take offense being similiar with fantasy race, that´s actualy not offensive depiction.
