I seriously do, people come up with most amazing things.
Games try to compell (is that even a word…) you to play them, that isn´t news.
Some games do it in rather questionable ways, that isn´t news either.
I did have a point i was trying to make but i´m still laughing at the absurdity of this thread….

Strang. The last thing I expect in any fantasy MMO game is political satire. If you are so educated in modern life in Russia, you should probably know that Communist party is one of the most influenial forces in russian politics. You should probably also know that a lot of people still belong to it. “Modern Russia is anything like that” – like what? it is not, and more importantly, never WAS the way you and developers seem to imagine it.
“Cold war era” jokes would be fine with me if I could see some cheesburgers spoiling out of the bloated bellies of the Risen I slain. As of now, the “jokes” seem lopsided and one-way. Which certainly spells “racist” in my book.
You´re making my point for me. It indeed isn´t and never was like what you seem to think dredge are supposed to be jab at. Hence it hardly can be a jab at Russia or russians.
What they are doing is mimicing cold war era stereotypes, propaganda and political satire and pasting it on a fantasy race, naturaly their viewpoint is that of western nations, since they are from there.
Might also be that they oppose communism and want to express it that way, wouldn´t be first nor last time video games are used as a medium for showing political beliefs.
Also when has political commentation ever been fair or balanced? The whole idea of politics is to drive certain ideology and values, not to be friends with everyone.
But what i tried to tell you earlier is not what modern russia is like, nor try to enlighten you on russian politics. I tried to tell you that it´s not racist simply because there´s no certain races involved. Communism, is a political ideology, it´s not a racial matter. Neither is Russia a race, it´s a nation. No race, no racism.
<edit> also…why shouldn´t there be political satire in a fantasy mmo?[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]

50£, is it worth for a skin that can only be used to ONE of your weapons?
For some people it might be, obviously not for you, but luckily nobody is holding a gun to your head untill you buy it.

Thank you for bringing this topic up, OP. As a fellow Norn, I’d like to toss in my two coppers.
I enjoyed the Clocktower even though I never beat it. I haven’t had that much fun falling to my death in years. During my times waiting to go again, I have seen many hateful things said towards the larger races of the game, Norns and Charrs. I wouldn’t call this racism as much as denial. In plenty of games, you’ll see people whining in PvP that a class is Overpowered. Reason being: they got demolished by a better player. They don’t think it was themselves, they think they’re better then that. They aren’t.
The Clockwork Tower is the same thing. People can’t bring themselves to say they were too bad to win it, so they blame the nearest thing in sight, in this case, the Charr and Norn Character Models. As for me? Well, I gave up on the Tower and pursued the other Achievements instead, and now own all of them except for the Attend the Party one and (obviously) the Tower.
Or more likely, it´s just pure frustration.
I´ve seen most of the players i´ve been with that kitten about large races kittening about their own skill too.
It really is an issue, there´s no denying it, but it certainly isn´t a gambreaking one. Though it is a really frustrating one.

Again you morons are forgetting about the “Able to inflict massive damage” part of the description of an elementalist. We have the worst stats in the game and the lowest damage. You don’t see warriors having kitten damage because they can survive more hits.
Or Thieves having kitten damage because they can mitigate so much damage and escape(survivability)
Or Mesmers having kitten damage because they have clones and can stealth.
Or you know Guardians having kitten damage because they have the highest survivability and support ability.
Will you already shut up about that bad piece of marketing? It has nothing to do with game and imho they should just kittening edit it out.

Oooh, a thread about racism.
I just love these, in a game that has a whole NPC-race to laugh at and discriminate a rather large group of people. I mean of course dredge and all the jabs against Russians they seem to represent (Iron Veil, Molodetc Excavation, Vpered Drill, comrades, well, I`m sure you`ve seen the stuff).
So, with this game developed in a racist streek I don`t see how you can press people playing that game into not being racist.
How exactly is that racism?
Have you noticed that soviet union has already fallen? Or maybe you actualy think modern russia is anything like that?
What you pointed out are at most jabs at communism and cold war era in general, though they aren´t really even jabs…i mean all that is pretty mild when it comes to political satire.

Skullmount…..sigh*
Have you noticed where the pumkins are located?
Let´s see…
Lions arch, main festival area, and place you most propably spend considerable amounts of time while playing, due to it being basicly a hub to everywhere.
Gendarran fields, area where haunted doors are, where parts of act 1 and 2 scavenger hunts are located in, wher portals to mad realm are.
Kessex hills, area where parts of act 1 scavenger hunts are located in, area where there´s haunted doors etc.
Queens dale, see above
Mad realm itself, a festival area, place you visit all the activities from.
Now tell me what other events you needed to participate in that aren´t close to the pumkins?
Oh, what´s that? HA! maybe you meant other than holiday events, things that are there for years to come.
Well….most likely you´ll visit lions arch at some point during playing. Running through the central area of lions arch, and looking around there´s about ~15 pumpkins…now halloween is here atleast till 31st…well that´s when act 4 begins but anyhow….from 22nd to 31st it´s 10 days of pumpkins. What was 10 times 15 again…gasp* its´150!
What´s my whole point in this?
Even if you just ignore everything in the event(but somehy want one particular event achievement), avoid all the event locations, but go through central lions arch while playing, carving pumpkins, you´ll make it before act 4…
And then you have the audacity to tell me you don´t have time to do it unefficiently, while bickering about this on forums?
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
@ Kana – hmm, some people want to do it just for achievement, so if there wasn’t one for example this topic could have 4 pages less (i didn’t read all – i admit). And this isn’t a platform game if i recall corectly. For other jumping (and not only) achievements you have all the time you want. Achevements from special events tab can be easily done in approximetly 3 hours by everyone (killing mobs and visiting 4 instances isn’t hard), but that one is pain in the kitten for a lot of people, and will be gone in few days – that can be one of the reasons of deleting it from the list.
This is what´s wrong with achievement systems….people have started thinking they have to be able to get them all. And as a consequence we have achievements for watching a kittening intro…. :/
It´s an achievement, grab a dictionary and look it up.
Other than that it´s also completely personal achievement, nobody knows you have it, nobody can see you have it…it´s there only as a little reward for yourself. If you feel it´s not worth it, why the hell would you do it? Your future, in game or otherwise, certainly doesn´t depend on it. After a week nobody but you is even interested wether you even knew what gw2 is week ago, musch less wether you finished an achievement, which most propably goes away with all the other holiday stuff.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
…somehow i get the feeling this was done after mindlesly grinding the most apparent pumpkins, with alts and overflows.
I think the point of the pumpkins were to get people actualy look around, explore a bit and find them while doing other halloween stuff.
Naturaly people of the internet just picked it out of any context, made a guide how to farm it most efficiently essentialy ripping any fun out of it.

I don´t think adding achievement for the puzzle is bad thing, quite the contrary. What i do think is bad thing is that the achievement counts towards the overarcing title achievement.

I like Guild Wars 2, but the nature of this puzzle is the first feature that created some distance between me and the game. Which is the sort of thing that always comes before I eventually change (back) to another game.
So here’s hoping that for every person like me, there is another person where this puzzle created even more fondness for the game. Most likely the people wearing the Mad King Slippers right now.
Rest assured that there is and will be us who enjoy it and think even higer of developers after this.
It´s just brilliant, personaly i sunk 1-2 hours trying to do it, and when i finaly made it, it was awesome.
Camera issues are issues, as are other characters blocking your view (i´m asura, and i tried doing it with few skirt wearing norn, i know what i´m talking about), but even with all the faults, it was great fun.
I certainly don´t think anet should refrain from making this kind of harder content in the future too…just maybe with hint more polish considering visibility issues. But all in all if they made something similiar with double the amount of problems, i think i´d still enjoy it.

[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
Problem with ele is that it´s too versatile to have that massive damage, like pointed previously.
Eles have decent damage and condition abilities (if they hit, that is), metric crapton of boons, lots of cc, nice heals, protective abilities to last an armageddon and awesome mobility…at the same time.
Other classes can certainly outshine eles in any single department…but generaly suck at every other while doing it.

maybe but i can tank (well its not the right term because you won t be damaged) 1-8 with a knight set and D/D…
i mean ._. ther’s quite a disparity in that..i mean not an experienced players….but a staff player havng issues with 2 mobs getting 6-8 without a problem JUST switching weapon…
I can face tank 1-3 mobs, aka not take a single step from the location i start casting from.
If you actualy bother to dodge and move with staff, i can easily take as many as the game has ever thrown at me.
[ ex- Piken Square (EU), ex- Aurora Glade (EU) ]
You can face tank 1-3 mobs in cursed shores using staff wearing green berserkers gear.
You can! If i could be arsed i´d upload a video to shut up everyone who says otherwise.
Taking more enemies than that might be a bit harder than with other classes, but nowhere near as hard as people seem to think.
Pve balance is just fine, more than fine actualy, ele can do great in pve.
And pvp balance i´m not touching even with a kittening long pole.

Would Elementalists be able to use greatswords in the future?
in Elementalist
Posted by: Strang.8170
I understand you and maybe I didn´t express my thoughts precisely enough (when you mentioned Gandalf, it came to me). I mean that melee class weapons (swords, daggers etc.) can be used if the wielder has enough physical strength (GS), but even Gandalf used the sword as a melee weapon and staff for casting spells, which evokes the feeling that melee (weapon made mainly from metal in some cases) are not suited for effective casting, and that´s why caster weapons even exists. Who would bother with some wood “shaft”, if they can have a big two-handed blade or dual swords instead, no problem with casting with them and effective melee weapon at once if needed?
This is the thing that doesn´t make sense to me, if there should be classic melee weapons for casters, I would rather see a new class “battlemage” type, than give those big pieces of metal to typical caster class…
Yes, yes, yes…in other settings prefectly valid points, don´t however apply to this setting.
I get that d&d, lotr and plethora of setting do use the weak, smart and frail mage image, but gw universe is not part of any of those.
I can understand your desire for that kind of archetypal mage and i do respect that, but it frankly irks me that you try to make elementalist to be solely that and justify it by logic from other settings which have nothing to do with the fantasy universe we´re talking about here.
Back in developement devs talked something about how they wanted to cover as many archetypes of characters as possible. Rangers for example, have bows, which fills their traditional archetype, and in addition they get swords and greatswords to cover that quick and mobile warrior archetype (“want to be aragorn” as it´s sometimes called) Both exist within the same profession.
In elementalists we clearly already have the stick wielding old guy in bathrobes archetype filled. It would only make sense if they expanded and began filling battlemage and spellblade archetypes. And like i previously have said, there´s nothing in this games lore or setting, that would make it any less logickal.

I gave up ele, its a pale copy of Guildwars 1 Ele, if Anet made it more like the original i’d be into it more, as it is now its pretty squishy and too little range and damage..
(bare in mind i could only stomach GW2 ele till about lv26) higher levels maybe better but i’m not gonna frustrate my way too 80 to find out…
Ranger and Engineer were a lot more fun to play.
I think this is mostly the problem with a lot of people. They expect ele to be copy of gw1 ele, and get dissapointed.

@ oflow
It´s true that weapon skills, closer ranged sets do lack passive defenses, which indeed is torublesome when levelling, however once traits start to become more readily available they remedy that very well.
Also, the active defenses even in melee are still preferrale to passive. It´s possible to weave in and out of melee range so that your hits land while mobs can´t touch you, cripples and chills help enormously here, as do stuns etc.
Staff really is more of a support weapon, but can still handle well in solo situations too.
But yeah, to get back to the point of this thread, barrier of entry is very high, and it should be remedied somehow.
I strongly disagree with the idea that complete revamp of the mechanics is needed, especialy since good players can still shine in pve atleast.
