I have an 80 guard mesmer thief engi ranger and necro. The only class I really get any enjoyment out of in pve is my my necro. The only reason I even made a guardian was out of guilt to be honest.
I really enjoy running dungeons and fractals and like to think I’m pretty good at them but the comments and general abuse you get for being a necro takes a lot of the fun out of it. I don’t see how anet will not do anything to boost what we bring to a group besides dps. Just off the top of my head why not make epidemic spread your boons to group members as well as conditions to enemies. We could stack might very easily and it wouldn’t be OP.
Anyway just venting. Does anyone else think the fun out ways the negative outlook in dungeon pve?
Ps. I do run meta build for my necro. It’s not like I’m bring a condi mm to the dungeon party

The only mode we are lacking in is pve and I’ll take a well played necro over and decently played class. If the player is good I don’t think the class matters unless you’re going for record speed clears.
Both classes are good. Both bring great dps and support if speced right to group play. The ranger is the easier class to play IMO especially in open world or PVP because of longbow and bear. If your going for condition spec and playing open world then just play what you think is the most fun. The ranger is still probably king of open world face roll though.
While leveling stats don’t really matter that much. It’s more about unlocking and getting used to the kits and skills you plan on using at 80. But the golden rule is zerk (power precision furosity) for pve and gear with more vit and toughness for wvw. You can go power bombs and nades if you like or use more of a condition gear set up with those same kits. I wouldn’t worry to much about it now. By the time you hit 80 you should of figured out how you want to spec your engi.

Yeah for leveling staff is fine. It’s more of a support hybrid weapon though. Might I suggest giving axe focus a try. You still get a good amount of range (600) and the damage and other skills are much better in a group situation.
So as I get into the lvl 30+ fractals I’m having a hard time with survivability. Mainly due to conditions. Cliffside on the second seal where you stack in the mid I’m almost always insta downed. Grawl last boss the burning even though constantly on the move crushes me. I enjoy the class and I love seeing the high numbers and don’t want to go away from zerk but would I be better of with some valk gear or just a l2p issue. Thanks for any and all responses.
P.S. I have slotted my condi removal skills even that crap heal and I just can’t seem to stay up under heavy condi fights.
How does a dagger or axe wielding necro rely on conditions? Couldn’t that be said for all classes as they have condition and power specs?
I thought necro had very high single target dps. It was there lack of group support that made them not desired in group play.
In pve dungeons what would be the next highest dps class after ele and thief. I was thinking bomb engi but not sure. You can add single target and aoe if you like.
I didn’t know that signet of spite didn’t scale with liche or DS. Thanks for that info. I was using that with my two damaging wells mainly so I’ll be swapping that out. I guess I’ll stick with blood is power unless I need a survival or other utility. Thanks again.
I just really enjoy the weapon set. Good burst! Then I have a might and vulnerability stacking 6k auto attack in DS that also pierces.
So I’ve been running an axe/focus build with 6/2/0/0/6. I’m really enjoying it in pve. Putting up some big numbers in full zerk gear and still have great survivability. Anyone on the fence of running full zerk or not liking daggers might give this a go.
Basically I use focus 4 axe 2 wells then pop DS and maybe toss in a liche form if I’m low on lf. Easy rotation and seems to be pretty kitten effective.
I do have a question for anyone else using this build. Do you think wells are the best utilities to use? Or is there a more optimal set up? Seems like the well aoe is needed because of the lack of cleave on axe. Thanks
Yeah I’ve tried many different things and the best I came up with was a rifle hgh build but it’s very selfish and mediocre damage at best.
I noticed VeeWee was back on the forums again maybe you can help. After all you’re the great engi of all time. Help me VeeWee you’re my only hope.
Hello everyone. I’m currently lvl 39 in fractals and I am a mainly pve player. I’m soooo tired of bombs and nades. I’ve tried the juggernaut build but found it meh. Just wondering if anyone had a build that I’m not thinking of like a sweet hgo or static discharge. I’ve tried to theory raft one of these but found the dps to be not so great. Maybe even a gadget build. Anyway thanks for any response or help and good day!
Well like I said necro is my favorite class but being a primarily pve player I started playing other classes more and more. Play what you enjoy IMO. Hopefully with the new xpac they can make necros wanted in pve.
And for open world solo nothing beats a ranger. Get a bear and a longbow and watch a good movie while you lvl.
Rangers are good in both spvp and wvw. They have a condi spec and power spec just like necro. I’d say necro is better in wvw then ranger though. It’s all about skill tbh. That’s way more important then class.
@Az, Rangers are in a good place in pve these days. Not sure were you heard they’re a mess from. With good dps from s/a lb spotter and frost spirit they’re welcome in most groups. The necro (my fav class) brings nothing to the table in group pve except dps. I just use mine for PVP now

I have my zerk mesmer engi ranger and thief but more and more I’m enjoying running my condi necro in fractals. I have great survivability good sustained dps and heals good group condition clears and seem to really shine on a lot of boss fights. With DS you can get off heavy dmg revives of group members as well. Now if there is another condi spec in group I will swap out to a different character as my effectiveness goes way down.
So my question I guess is how do you feel about having one strong condi class in your fractal groups? Or do you still prefer the ultra squishy zerk class that is perma downed on many bosses.
Thanks for the reply. I really like the torch for the high uptime on burning. Think I’m going to try to work that into the mix.
In pve I use a zerk LB/GS build and have been using it decently in spvp. I was looking to swap to a heavy condition build using maybe SB and axe/torch. Since I haven’t ever played a condition ranger I’m not sure if using traps or maybe investing in our survival abilities. Any advise would help greatly appreciated. Thanks.
No bombs anymore huh? I’ve always hated nades personally. Ohh well I’ll mess around and see what I can come up with. Thanks for responding.
I haven’t played my engi in a while. I love the FT/EG combo. Is it viable for dungeon/fractals now with the boost to FT dmg? I have my bombs zerk spec atm but I’d really like to switch. Thanks.
Welcome to gw2! If you would like to add my tag name to your friends list, I’ll ne happy to show you a few things in game. It’s a big world and easy to get overwhelmed. I remember when I got the game at release I hated it. I needed to retrain myself from years of the raid centered mmo concept. This game is about exploring spvp wvw and looking cool. I think fractals are one of the cooler things I’ve seen in an mmo to date. Reminds me of lost dungeons of norrath. Just an fyi because I have a lvl 80 necro and it was my first. They get a bad rap in end game group content. Hit me up. Good luck.
I really love fractals. Good challenge, nice sense of progression, decent chance at rewards. I just wish they would add more!
Let me start by saying I love this game. I’ve played since release, taking short breaks here and there. In my opinion it’s the best mmo out and in the top five of all time.
Lately all I do is log in do my daily which consists of running a fractal and doing some spvp. I don’t think I’m burned out just at a standstill state. I don’t enjoy wvw so that is a huge portion of the game that I don’t experience on a daily basis. I have five classes to 80 well equipped with ascended and exotics.
I guess my question is what keeps you coming back. The love of the game? The fact there isn’t much else out atm? The goals you have yet to accomplish? I do really enjoy my time here, just finding myself longing for something new or different. I guess this eventually happens in any game you play long enough.
Your server won’t matter much because of the mega server tech. It only matters for wvw. Just pick a high pop one and you’ll be fine.
As far as classes go you can’t go wrong with any really. There will be the elitests that will not let necros in there dungeon runs because of the class design. Necro will be by far the easiest to solo but also by far the worst for optimal team play. I have an 80 necro and enjoy it a lot but understand its flaws when it comes to pve team play. Thief and ele both bring very high dps and group benefits. Ele probably more so. They’re also the higher skill lvl classes because of very low hp.
Good luck and welcome to gw2. Friend me in game if you need any help.
That is a good looking build!
Realistically I was never upset. It takes a bit more then forum warriors to upset me. I was curious of a more Mage type build using a staff yes, but also not really taking into consideration that it and scepter were full on condition build only weapons. This is after all why I was asking. My personal opinion is that I don’t care what people run. In my dungeon or fractal groups I don’t care what you bring or what build you use. As I’ve stated most content is so easy at this point i don’t think it matters. I play to relax be social and have fun. Some people do not think it’s fun to not run meta while I could care less if a dungeon takes an extra 20 minutes. But that’s just my opinion.
It’s to be expected on the forums. I thought it was kitten funny tbh. I did end up using a more meta build since the other options are only condition based even though I guess the staff could be considered a defensive weapon it still does conditions. Seems the mesmer doesn’t have a lot of build diversity for pve. I did 80 and geared up. Ran a lvl 32 fractal on him last night. Good dmg good group support, I’m happy.
I don’t think there is any moral here. Just people that can’t read and jump to conclusions. It was a fun thread to be a part of though.
Clownmug you have restored my faith in humanity.
Didn’t we already cover that I decided to go with a S/S GS build? Lol you two are a cute couple. I would like to thank Miku for the nice post and good read though.
Well I did ask about a build that is for sure. I also haven’t had my mesmer outside of rata sum. I lvld him on ToKs. So I was looking to use my staff and maybe scepter. I have decided on a s/s gs build though. I haven’t ran him through any dungeons. But just for the sake of saying 90% on pve content including dungeons is so easy any build does fine as long as you’re not doing speed runs. I do appreciate your forum warrior approach to my threat.

Well considering I don’t run a condition mesmer in dungeons I’m not sure “I’m” the problem. But I’m sure the community thanks you for your effort to save them.
Lol never once did I say condition builds were optimal for dungeon runs. I understand and stated I understood what the above poster was saying. Not sure why you guys keep harping on that. But thanks for the response.
Thanks for the advice.
I understand what you’re saying. That isn’t the topic of this thread. We can agree to disagree and get back on topic if you don’t mind. It looks as no one has a build to share though and my searches have come up dry with any build not from 2013 lol. That might be telling in itself.
I understand the meta and I have my zerk sword/x ranger to do meta build runs. I’m looking to make a staff and scepter Mesmer. I don’t want a bunch of classes all using the same builds. I also disagree with conditions being useless unless there are multiple condition builds in one group. But that conversation has been beaten to death. Thanks for the response though!
I’m not worried about meta builds. Im not looking for speed runs. Just seeing if there is any staff/scepter builds out there as the mes skill three can be a bit confusing. Thanks anyone though.
My mesmee will soon be lvl 80. I’m mainly looking to do pve content with him. Fractals and such. I already have my melee power ranger so I want my Mage class to be more of the caster type. Was looking to use staff and scepter/x. I’m not sure what weapon goes well with the scepter. I’ve been using pistol. So if anyone would like to post a build with armor and traits that we be great! Thanks and happy Halloween.
Hey all! I have an 80 ranger and 80 necro and a few alts looking for a guild. I’m on TC but I don’t really ever wvw so I guess that doesn’t matter. I’m personal level 31 in fractals and have done my fair share of dungeon paths. My current guild isn’t really active at all anymore. I do enjoy spvp as well. My play times are around 10:30 est. Reply or send a PM if you have an active guild and would be interested in me joining.
Welcome to GW2. I to played swtor for a long time. This game is vastly different then swtor and most mmos. The combat is the best around. There is no need to rush to max lvl to raid. Take your time is my advice. To answer your quest each race has there own story instead of class. And you can turn with your mouse but I do not believe there is a point and click move option if that’s what you’re asking.
Hey! I’m in search of a guild. I have a few lvl 80s across three accounts. I enjoy dungeons/fractals and spvp mainly. Haven’t done much wvw. What is your guild focus? What are your members active play times? Send a PM and let me know if you get a free moment. Thanks.
Cool list bro!!!!!!!!!!!
So I did a post like this a while back to see people’s opinions on the pve meta. I’m curious if it has changed since the update on the ninth. So the question is if you’re going to run a Dungeon or Fractal and you could pick the classes to go what would you take in what order of importance.
guardian
Warrior
Thief
Ele
Ranger
Engi
Mes
Necro
That’s my order.
Might I suggest a engineer! Great fun, great dps, great support! And a bit more rare to see then an ele! Welcome back!
