I did and as I thought it’s either power, bunker, or condition. Which those two weapons don’t both work together. I was only half serious with the thread anyway. Just seeing if maybe could wow me or see one I missed.
Asura ranger! I have an 80 necro to but I love my little ranger.
So longbow, sword/ wh is really my best option I guess huh? Or just go with a full condition build using SB, axe/torch. I thought maybe someone could see a build I was missing to combine my two fav weapon swaps. Well thanks for the replies anyways! I love this class anyway and will stick with it. My main is a necro and I don’t like him anymore now that I rolled a ranger.
Well I was looking for a build that could use those weapon sets but as I thought one was more power and the other was more conditions. I was seeing if there was a build to be able to use both. I don’t mind having two sets of gear for wvw, I just was hoping to be able to use those two as they are my favs.
Those weapons are my play style. Now I need a build that best suits the use of said weapons. Come on ranger community get this done!
Ok so I’m not a good theory crafter. My favorite two weapons are lb and axe/wh. Is there a feasible build that can sinergize with those two swaps. I’d like for this to work in both pve and PvP. Get to work people! I expect you to come up with my build by the end of the day. Thanks.
Hop over the the guild recruitment forums and either start a thread there explaining what you’re looking for or look through the guilds recruiting.
All dungeons have paths. Each path gives a reward of tokens. With the tokens you can buy exotic armor in Lions Arch. With laurals you can buy ascended trinkets. With karma you can buy exotic temple armor in orr. With gold you can buy exotics off of the TP. So really the choice is yours how fast you want to gear up and how you want your ranger to look.
Nah I’m good on warrior with lb. I have a Guardian already in the 20s so I want a medium class. Ranger will be my next 80. I’m loving it so far!
Yeah I was hoping with the increase to mid range lb it might be better. I just really enjoy the swap to axe/torch! Feel like Indiana Jones
Maybe I can run that condition build too.
I’m at work and on my phone so can watch the video atm but I’ll check it out when I get home. So no viable lb swap axe/x specs huh?
So my main is a lvl 80 necro and I decided to roll a ranger next. He is lvl 12 atm. My question is besides my longbow should I have a melee weapon to swap to or could I run an axe/wh or axe/ torch off hand set up? I want to have a ranged toon since my necro is melee only really but I don’t want to kitten myself buy only being ranged when melee is the better option. Thanks for any and all responses.
Well the first build is a condition build. For that I would go 30/30/0/0/10 its a ranged build so not much issue with surviving. Your second set of skills should be the might stacker epidemic and the signic that gives multiple condition on active use. Sorry I can’t always remember names. This is a great build for dungeons as long as there aren’t a few other condition builds in group. As for the dagger/dagger build it looks more like a bunker tank build. You can use it but your DMG will not be good. Oh and always use flesh golem as your elite. Unless you need stability.
Well I think it depends on what aspect of the game you’re going for. In dungeons this isn’t going to bring much to the table IMO. Our class just really isn’t great for group support. Your best bet would be find a DPS build you like which would be condition, power, or MM or make a more support oriented class IMO.
I run a 30/10/0/30/0 build only for the added survivability while being in melee. With your build set up I just don’t see it being very effective in pve. Your DPS will be very lacking and our skills are just not that great for group support. They are very good to support the necro on the other hand. While I do love our aoe rez, I can’t remember the last time I needed it on my skill bar. Maybe on Lupi if I know its going to be one of those days. But if all out support is what you’re going for I do believe you have hit the nail on the head! Happy necroing

Necro with scepter/dagger and staff. You can run a minion build for lvling and then switch at 80 to a condition build. Great class for DMG and survivability.
I run a power/support/wells build atm. 30/10/0/30/0. I use dagger/wh and staff only when I must. This build has good DMG and high survivability for being melee because your wells do DMG and pulse regen. If you’re not looking for a condition build then this might be right up your ally.
Thanks buddy right back at ya
You’re a class act Bawi! You’re insults and condescending responses are both rewarding and helpful. I see both being of use hence the topic of discussion. I did mention focus actually if you read above where I said I will try dagger and focus to see which one I like better. Thanks for your vast insight on the necro weapons and obviously your superior opinion.
See that’s what I’m saying. The above poster said danger off hand is a defensive weapon. I fail to see how a spell that does DMG and blinds and a spell that does DMG and adds multiple conditions is more defensive then a spell that does no DMG and dazes and a spell that does aoe DMG and gives a swiftness boon. I have an off hand dagger and I’ll pick up a focus and try them both out against my oh wh. Nice discussion though. Thanks for the input.
Well still see the perks in all the OH weapon choices. Guess I’ll get a focus now and give that a go as well! Thanks for the responses!
So that even more makes me not understand why D/W is the common choice of weapons. Is because we are suppose to be auto attacking and it gives us a kind of ohh crap button?
Dagger #4 does a bit of DMG and removes conditions. WH #4 does a bit of DMG and dazes. Dagger #5 is and aoe DMG and condition spell and WH is an aoe that adds swiftness spell. I don’t see how one is more defensive then the other I guess.
So most of the things I read suggest dagger war horn or axe focus. Why is dagger dagger not the preferred weapons for melee power build?
TC is where it’s at.
What server are you on? You can always guest to a higher pop server if feeling lonely is the concern. A good guild makes or breaks any mmo imo. I like you didn’t care for this game when I first played it. After a year or so and being so sick of SWToR I decided I would lvl a toon to lvl 80. Best decision I ever made. I have a lvl 22 Guardian if you ever want to group up. Or I’ll be happy to do story mode AC once you hit 30. Good luck hope your view changes but it isn’t for everyone.
Our guild does them on certain nights. Help new people or just do them for fun. There are plenty of people that still find them fun and challenging.
Well as above poster said you can do it for ascended gear. You can do it for normal gear and or skins. I know this one might blow some minds but you can do it for fun and challenge as well!
Are you saying this is the best DPS build for PvP or PvE? I tried the MM build in a dungeon since the patch and found it to be sub par as usual.
If you’re looking to stay ranged I’d go with the conditionmancer build. Its a good build that does good enough in pve and great in PvP. The melee power build will be your best DPS by far though. There are melee builds that allow you to have great survivability as well.
I have an 80 necro and I switched from scepter/dagger staff condition build to a dagger/war horn power build and saw my DPS double. The power build is obviously harder because you are melee instead of ranged but with the healing wells you can have good survivability. Condition builds are not good for world bosses but you can use it a d still get credit you just wont be doing tons of DMG. They are good in dungeons if there isn’t other condition based builds in the group. It is very good in PvP.
1 and 3 of Arah that is. I’ve done quite a few in the other dungeons.
Did path 1 and 3 so far. We died a few times on lupi but like I said I needed to learn the mechanics. Nope that wasn’t me I’ve only been with guildies. Once again a bit off topic but thanks for your input.
I’m new to lvl 80 on my necro and the groups I’ve run with have had no issue with me being ranged and we have had no issues completing paths. I’m sure I could do more DMG and less support with dagger/war but I don’t enjoy that play style on that toon. Any way this really isn’t what the thread was about but I guess I should have known better on here. Thanks to all who tried to help with the op.
My necro does just fine at ranged with the condition build. Maybe I’ll go melee guard and see if I like it. Thanks for the input everyone.
Is ranged guard better support then a mesmer?
So I hit 80 on my necro and I’m ready to start a new toon. I want a support caster type. I’ve never been much of a melee kind of person. Is mesmer the way to go for what I’m looking to do?
I played at launch and just came back a month ago. I only made it to lvl 30 or so when I quit. I just hit lvl 80 on my new necro. I’m not sure much has changed besides the addition of new tiers of gear and an overland raid mob. Still the same game at its core. The video linked above show the wallet change and a few little changes added. Overall if you didn’t like it before you probably won’t now. It took me letting go of the trinity and stand still combat to enjoy the game. Now I love it and won’t be going anywhere soon.
What is power creep?
There is a lot of skins in game to work for and I agree there should be cool ones to get just by playing. I just think having some more in the shop is a good idea. I want to support this game but there isn’t anything good to buy.
Why isn’t there more armor skins in the gem store. People who play MMOs like to look cool! You have what, 6 sets of armor for sale? I think you’re missing a huge cash revenue here. I love the game just don’t understand this choice.
Conditionmancer is the build for ranged conditions. I use 30/30/0/0/10 but there are other hybrid builds. You use scepter/dagger and staff swap. With epidemic it is the king of aoe sustained dmg. It does however lack in burst DPS. Very high serviceability because you can stay ranged. You have a wealth of condition removals as well. You can also use flesh golem to add DPS and or tank for you. This also brings more utility to the group make up then just burst DPS. I have tried the power builds and they don’t fit my play style for this class. If I wanted melee I would play my guardian.
And btw might to clerify open world pve or dungeons. Minions aren’t good in dungeons but very helpful while lvling. And get ready for a reroll post too.
If you want squishy pve build then go no farther then dagger/war horn. Full power build. Your survivability will be crap but your burst DMG will be awesome. I prefer a condition build for more steady ranged DPS but if you want to kill em fast then go 30 power 30 in crit and use dagger war horn.
Remember your lvl will scale downward to the zone you are in so you can go back and do content you missed with challenge. I’m new as well, just hit lvl 64 last night! It’s an amazing game. Try a few classes and don’t get frustrated or listen to the trolls. You will hear how such and such class sucks no end game etc … play what you like and remember it’s a game.
Thanks for all the answers. I switched to power build last night and I don’t like it near as much as my condition set up was.
Yeah I have all the manuals. I just got the 60 one and spec’d conditions but I want to go power. Looking for good one to take into end game dungeons. Want to get used to it over the next 20 lvls so I’m ready for end game runs with my guild.
I just hit 60 on my necro. My main btw. I’ve used the condition build till now but was thinking of going more toward powermancer. I see 50 different kinds of builds with all saying there’s is great. I have no idea which one to use or which weapon to use. I guess I could start with one and see how it plays I just didn’t want to respec over and over. Btw how do I respec? Thanks for any advice.
