I’m a huge believer in play what you think is fun but just an FYI some people in dungeon runs and fractals will not like the fact you are running FT since it is poor DPS. Just steer clear of speed runs and you should be fine.
Well it depends on what you’re trying to do really. Pve I’d always suggest zerk. PvP/wvw you would want some toughness maybe but some people still run glass cannon builds. Engis have very good bunker builds. Then you need to figure out what kits you like so you can decide on power or condition builds. I’ve always tried to focus on what I’m there to do instead of being a jack of all tried type stat set up.
Asura is the correct choice of race for all classes!
I think we have got a bit off topic. So last night I did a lvl 28 fractal run on my necro and a lvl 32 fractal run on my engi. I really paid attention to the numbers and what I usually just instinctually do to support the group. My engi was over all better. I wouldn’t say by a landslide but better yes. I do get downed more often on my engi so not sure if the loss of DPS and support would even out there because I rarely get downed on my necro.
I guess I was wrong then lol. Mobs seem to melt away when I’m playing my necro compared to my alts. Maybe it was just in my head! Still love the play style though so I’ll continue to main him and hope for some buffs here and there.
Necros have bad aoe DPS? This news to me.
Having played 4 of the classes I would disagree. My ranger giving a 5% inc to crit in no way is as powerful as my necro. Could be me I guess. My necro depending on how I’m specced can be very good support in dungeon runs. Not as good as a guard of course but good all the same. I guess it boils down to what Cog said, if you want speed runs bring guard and war if you don’t care then bring what you like.
Well put Cogburn! Yeah I’m not setting any speed run records but I am having a blast. Guess that’s all that matters. Necro is by far my favorite class.
I main a necro first off, but I also have an engi, ranger, guard, and thief. I think they all have there strengths. My necro is now lvl 27 in fractals and just need Arah 4 to finish dungeon master. I bring good DPS, heals, cc, condition removal, and pet agro support to a group all in one package. I rarely have been kicked for being a necro and I usually start my own groups but the forums act like we are useless. I just don’t get it. On a side note a lot of people say engineers are bad as well and my engi is fractal lvl 39 and I have no issues with him either. I know we have some issues as do all classes but it doesn’t seem that bad. Ohh well I’m bored at work and figured I’d drop a line.
Great video. A little critique would be you don’t cover your gear in the slightest. People interested in spvp might want to see that info.
Well he said in his post he used eg nades and bombs. I was going by his statement not the build link.
Eg has a condition removal as does your elixer as does your med kit.
Asura is the best race for all classes!
In wvw/PvP its about surviving so rabbid is a good set to use with nades/bombs/eg. Condition pressure is always good against players but not so hot in pve.
Depends on what your goals are. Pve,wvw, or spvp. Condition or power build? Are you good with dodging in pve? Obviously zerk is the best DPS for pve but is high risk high reward. So I’m sure you can figure out what gear you need.
So I’m 6 days in using this build, using bombs as my only kit. I will swap in others if needed of course. I run 10 in tools for SD. I have had no issues with loss of vigor and I usually only do fractals or paths. So I will have to disagree with your claim of being for open word.
To touch on the communication in groups, I think it has more to do with the combat and speed of clearing skipping content. When you’re constantly in combat or running it’s hard to type and joke around. In other tab target spam rotation games it was easy to type and joke but it gw2 combat is unforgiving if not paying attention.
It’s just burn out IMO. I take breaks from time to time or set a goal for a piece of gear or lvl an alt to break up the grind of just going after gear or gold. This game has so much to do in it, it can be overwhelming at times. I’m not sure how many lvl 80s you have at 3000 hours but maybe that could give a fresh feel to the game. Any game with that much time in you’re going to get bored. I played eq1 for 6 years and then eq2 for 6 years and had to take many breaks. Most of those breaks left me far behind the treadmill. In this game you don’t have to worry about that nearly as much especially if you’re already ascended. Good luck!
I have been running fractals since a little after the fractured update. My engine is fractal lvl 20 now. I usually pug them as my guild isn’t big on them and have no issues or complaints. I recently started using Phineas’s metarific build and pretty much only using bombs. Still no issues just more DPS
So I’ve been messing around with a 20/30/0/0/20 build. I’m running IP, MA and SD. I put 20 in to the last line for more crit mainly and for scope when I have to jump out to range. I mainly go in for melee using tool kit after dropping dots with P/P.
Has anyone else used this type of build and had success DPS wise? I’m seeing decent numbers so far.
Btw I’m in zerk gear and this is only for pve. I would not use this in PvP or wvw. Thanks
If you’re asking for pve I’d say war/guard/ else/mes. PvP just be good at your class.
Where do you buy time of knowledge things at?
There is a group finder in game. Use it, it works wonders. If you still have trouble add me and I’ll take you through both.
Common consensus is engineer is the worst dps?
Kind of shocked to see ranger so high on that list as well.
Engineer doesn’t even make the list? I ment optimal single target DPS. Melee or ranged, even though melee does more DMG.
If you had to rank pve DPS classes what would your rank be? Let’s say they all have zerk gear and optimal DPS spec. I’m guessing warrior is number one curious after that.
I have been playing MMOs since 99 eq1. I must say engineer is one if not the most interesting classes I’ve ever played. Maybe with blood mage from VG being a close 2nd. Good times!
Ha! I’m not computer savvy enough to do all that!
Thanks for the responses. He has been made!
Basicly wondering how they are in pve. I have an 80 necro and ranger and was planing on this being my next class. I don’t see many around to ask so I figured I’d ask in here.
Spoj’s dagger build is the way to go unless you want conditions.
Each dungeon has a story mode that can be done at the correct lvl easily. Like AC is lvl 30 CM 40 TA 50 etc …. The paths are the more difficult geared toward 80 content. If you would like to add me I’d be happy to run you through the story mode dungeons you’re available to do based on your lvl. If your lvl 60 then we can do 4 or 5 of them atm.
Look on YouTube for Brazil gw2 ranger pve.
It is viable in PvP and to some extent pve if you want a very tanky build.
This is nothing new. Most speed runs do not want rangers or anything not zerk. I respect these peoples way of play and don’t join there groups. Rangers are fine in dungeons and bring some very welcome buffs and heals/condition removal to a party. They are on the other hand not the most efficient class to do speed runs.
Hello, I have an 80 conditionmancer on the Tarnished Coast server. I also have a few alts I’m leveling. I’m looking for an active guild on my server into all aspects. I mainly do pve but plan on trying spvp and wvw soon. I usually play most nights around 10:30 est. I’m not looking to be a number in a 500 person guild. I’m older and have a family so my play time might get interrupted but I usually play once everyone is fast asleep. I have many years experience in MMOs and voice chat with mic. If your guild has goals like finishing all dungeon paths, fractals, LW, spvp, and wvw please pm me. Thanks for reading.
I disagree. I’ve mained a necro for a while and listened to the same crap on there forums. I have no issues in pvx with him. I now have a ranger and enjoy this class even more. Once again have no issues in pvx. I have never once had anyone complain about me being a ranger in a dungeon run or my performance. Do I lose fights in wvw/PvP? Of course. I never had the mentality that I was going to win them all.
30/10/0/0/30 will work just fine with dagger/wh.
War/guard are the fotm. If you like a paladin type class go with guardian. They can do great DPS or great healing or good at both. My main is a necro and by far my favorite class. I now have a ranger in the 50s and a guard in the 30s. But as I said before all classes are viable just some have a much higher skill lvl to master then say a warrior.
Any class will duo well. If your friend wants to play the fotm class then tell them to roll guardian or warrior.
You must remember that the forums are 1% of the actual community playing the game. Players make the class not the other way around. I’ve seen all the so called bad classes be great in all aspects if the game if being played by someone who knows what they’re doing.
Thanks for all the ideas! Good looking group we have here.
What armor is the theifomancer have there? I notice the devout head but what is the rest? Great ideas and thanks for the link.
Sorry I’m a male asura. What is this whisper gear you speak of?
So I enjoy playing my necro but have since moved on because of my hatred for light armor apperences. Anyone know any cool light armor I may have missed? I have the Arah set and while it looks necro ish I still hate it. Thanks for any responses.
Yeah that’s kind of what I figured. Same problem with my necro. Guess I’ll switch back to power ditch the traps and just learn to stay at max range in PvP.
So I started with a more power direct DMG build and have now moved to a condition aoe build. Which do you think is more effective for both pve and wvw/PvP ? I want to master one of these build and just maybe swap a bit of gear. I don’t want to respec just to play a different aspect of the game. Any thoughts?
