People always like to complain, but I want to say a big thank you for fixing the Sylvari cultural armor! Now it glows and still has a nice texture! Yay I have my armor back!!
Seems they can’t make anyone happy. It’s supposed to be primarily a roll back after the huge back lash on the last patch when they changed a lot of the textures/dye channels on the Sylvari cultural armor. It will be interesting to see how the majority ends up feeling about this second change.
Going to add that I just checked out my tier 3 light female armor, and I’m VERY happy with the changes. It still has glow, but all of the awesome textures and shading is back and I can get a dye look very close to what I had before all these crazy changes. I’m happy!

So you want some different armor looks as you level up, I’m betting so far all you’ve used are either drops or the stuff you get from the “armorsmith” merchant that is in the starter map. All of the “armorsmith” merchants sell the exact same skin in the worst stats for your level, not worth buying. As you level up, there is a periodic update to the look of the dropped armor, however I want to say it’s only about every 25 levels or so, so you only have about 4 different looks of dropped armor. Most of the armor variety you will get either from crafted armor, which is easily bought from the trading post if you aren’t into crafting yourself, (changes looks every 15 levels starting at level 10, plus a separate skin for the rare version), or the armor you get from the karma heart vendors. Each level area will have a different look for the karma vendors after you complete the heart. These armors are available starting about level 7 I think, it depends on the level of the heart completed.
So there are ways to get different looks as you level up, but naturally the most variety and the best looks come at level 80. Also check out cultural armor, a bit pricey, but you can use the first tier starting at about level 35, I think, tier two is level 60. Anyway, hope that helps.
I forgot to add, if you’re doing your personal story you get a few unique looking armors from there as well.
FYI, there are some stat combinations that are not craftable, though most are.
Yep cultural armor is purely for the skin. Any time I’ve bought it it’s promptly been transmuted onto my desired stats.
it is quite ridiculous actually. I can’t even pass out food to my 5 man dungeon party without getting suppressed. I don’t think allowing me to send 4 mails in a row instead of 2 would really hurt.
Some of the dungeons are harder and require some coordination and skill. Some dungeons are still super easy though. I don’t know your skill level so I can’t say what if anything will be challenging for you. There are those who find everything in this game too easy, and there are those who find some content too hard.
Open world stuff and a lot of living story stuff is all pretty easy.
I don’t like how my dye looks at all any more, I guess I’m going to have to try and find something that works, but right now it looks terrible! I think what a lot of us are missing is the subtlety there used to be, and a certain amount of gradient, now it looks a bit too bright, or just washed out. It feels like there is less detail.
Before is on the left.

Depends, some times I’ll just log on to do the daily, in which case I’ll figure out the most efficient way of getting them done, on the other hand if I’m getting on to do something else, like run dungeons with guildmates or whatever, I’ll go do stuff with friends and then once we’re done check and see what I can do to finish the daily as usually just playing whatever I want will get me 2 or so tasks done. Pretty rarely does my whole daily just “happen” without me putting some effort towards it.
Yeah just tried the mf way of getting them, got copper, platinum and gold doubloons but not a single silver one. I think I’ll just sell the rest of my gemstones and let others gamble on that.
All I can add to this topic is to say, I have 2 level 21/22 chars parked at the pirate jp in Lion’s arch, collecting silver doubloons that I promptly sell to make money to buy my charged loadstones, because I have a total of 2. And I do dungeons, I do fractals, I do temple events but I don’t have time to do them every day. But I can open a chest every day, so for someone like me who doesn’t play for hours and hours everyday, silver doubloons are way easier (and faster) to come by.
As someone who generally does not have more than an hour or two tops to play at a time, I would never play a game that took me 50 min to get where I was going to do what I wanted to do. I like having way points, and I’m don’t want to wait forever and a day just to get to the dungeon I want to play. I also like being able to quickly meet up with my friends though we may be scattered all over the map. I would be okay with reducing the number of way points in each area though, I can handle a 5 min run across a map, and often do it to save on way point costs, but if I need to spend more than 10 min getting there, it’s probably not going to happen.
I would stick with T5 only, not only are the mats plentiful and cheap, you can salvage for ectos afterwards which will help in the crafting of the exotics you’ll need to make.
So I love main hand sword and use it most, is it really best to have it equipped twice to have access to two different off hands rather than using any other main hand? Better than staff, scepter or greatsword when talking about cool downs?
I am having a similar dilemma, Sunrise is by far my favorite legendary, I think it looks so pretty. But Greatsword isn’t my favorite weapon for my mesmer, I actually prefer staff and sword/x. I’ve thought about getting bolt, but then I’d want two as when I go sword/sword I want my swords to match, plus bolt just doesn’t excite me, and bifrost isn’t my favorite either.
Sigh. . . looking forward to these new legendaries they are supposed to be coming out with, hopefully a staff I can love, or even better a 1h sword I can really really love.
So it would be nice if they’d at least let us merch them for a copper a piece instead of having to trash it entirely
I agree, I have ridiculous amounts of bloodstone dust, and only just got enough emperial fragments to make an ascended weapon.
As for the reason why these materials are account bound, it’s just another artificial way to slow down the acquisition of them. They don’t want people to buy them to speed things up, with the market being across all servers there’s always supply of even “rare” things, so it’s just a way to make it so those with lots of gold already can’t just buy it and get their ascended weapon instantly.
For me it’s purely about looks. With a Sylvari main, I prefer to have plant like armor, and I find it to be very nice. For me the skin was worth the gold (I wasn’t using it for anything else anyway)
I just wanted to agree with what others have said, getting some rare gear as a way to start out is a great way to go. It should easily meet your needs while you save up for your desired exotic stats. If you’re looking at “starter” armor, rare is the way to go. Good luck!
Krytan blades, and rinblades are two easily obatainable sword skins that have basic straight blades, the rinblades might be too wide though. I have to agree with you, most of the swords are soo ugly.
Having a super rare item drop and have it be completely useless is really idiotic. We should at the very least be able to salvage for ectos/dark matter, or maybe merch it for a gold? they are rare enough it would hardly break the economy, and it sure would be a lot nicer than seeing you got ascended shaman’s stats that you can do nothing with.
Taking a keep is definitely more of a challenge, and happens a lot less frequently than all the world events. I see no reason why they shouldn’t be giving 20+ dragonite ore, certainly it’s worth as much as fighting the Claw of Jormag?
Nice little bonus if you craft rares to help you level, you can salvage them for ectos.

Legendary Gear and Precursors
We aren’t quite ready to go into all the details here, but what I can say is you will see a specific way to build precursor items on your way to a legendary. On top of this, you’ll also see new legendary weapons and new types of legendary gear in 2013. Building your precursor will require a large amount of the new crafting material rewards listed above, 500 in crafting, and likely a combination of other items earned for completing more specific content in the game.
Clearly crafting a precursor is going to be a bit more arduous than crafting an acended weapon. Account bound or not, I don’t think it will ruin the economy. Regardless the demand for the rng precursors will go down to a degree, and therefore will cost a little less, but I don’t think they’ll suddenly drop to 20g, and personally a drop to 300-500g for a precursor instead of 800g, would be a good thing. But it doesn’t sound like crafting a precursor is going to be a walk in the park either, and still rather costly. I’m absolutely certain that Anet doesn’t want to completely undermine the value of the rng precursors, but give a way to work towards it, just like you can the rest of the legendary, that isn’t just farming endless amounts of gold.
My issue is doubloons. They were 40s each and they’ve now jumped to almost 1.5 gold. I know charged lodestones were expensive too, but at least they were easy to farm. Doubloons are quite tough to come by.
I tried parking a lvl 20 at a JP chest, but never receive a silver doubloon.
your character needs to be at least level 21 to get silver doubloons. I have a lvl 21 and a lvl 22 char I’ve parked at the pirate jp in lion’s arch and I seem to get silver doubloons about 25-33% of the time I open a chest.
after a party wipe, the holograms stopped spawning making the dungeon impossible to complete. Sad party here
It would be really really nice to be able to dye hair accessories with our normal dyes at any time, just like we do armor. I’ve had to just dye them extremely neutral colors, or commit to using a starter color as part of the armor if I want it to look even somewhat decent.
Ranger’s pet can be put on avoid combat, it will then not attack the ooze. Necro’s should not use minions for this part of the fight.
If you have more than two mesmers I could see it being an issue as it’s pretty difficult to fight not using any illusions (though it is doable). I play mesmer as main, had no problem keeping my illusions in check, I just became one of the party members who lured the ooze with pharamones so my primary goal wasn’t attacking and I didn’t dodge unless an elemental was obviously closer, but mostly I just didn’t dodge.
It’s really not a problem unless you have a full part of mesmers or rangers, but one party member putting out less damage in this instance isn’t going to ruin the encounter.
I think simply being able to accept or deny people joining your group as the one who is the leader (made the post) would be sufficient.
worked like a charm, my level 20 necro is now sporting the tier one armor and she looks awesome
it seems like a huge missing feature of the game honestly, you can’t even buy your original town clothes from the gem store, only new ones. Fortunately they are entirely unnecessary, and rarely seen anyway.
sweet, I was hoping someone had tried this
Curious, has anyone tried using the transmutation trick to unsoulbind cultural armor? I have some tier one sylvari cultural armor just sitting in my bank since I upgraded my mesmer to tier 3, but I’d love to give the tier 1 stuff to my sylvari necro.
I know cultural armor is rather tricky, so just wondering if anyone else tried this and it worked?
Because off the animation, and the fact that everyone runs at the same speed (with out any boons or buffs) larger characters always look like they are running slower, the bigger they are the worse it looks.
Ah well if you don’t care for looks specifically then there’s no need to run dungeons anyway, so no worries there.
once I got a bunch of gossamer scraps from area completion, but once again, that’s rng, sad days
No idea, I don’t always play every day, it’s just a game after all and I play to have fun. When I do play I’ll often aim for the daily, but I don’t stress it if I don’t make it.
Just wanted to add that today I got 2 globs of dark matter off of a lvl 75 exotic with a blsk. So it’s not just 80’s. I don’t know how low of a lvl it works, but I’m assuming similar to ectos.
So far my rng seems to be about 50% of the time I get a glob or 2, and 50% nothing.
I’ve noticed this too. Sad days.
I highly doubt it, I’m thinking they want you to be able to see the stat of the item just by looking at it, it’s rather silly really, there’s going to be a lot of red great swords out there.
My exotic recipes were all reset. I know the recipes that you acquired in other ways than discovery you didn’t lose, but all discoveries were reset. In weapon smithing I didn’t have a single sword or spear recipe showing even though I had crafted a few of those pre-patch.
@Sleel, get over it, the rest of us needed the reset to get the bonus xp to level crafting. I don’t know why you wanted to discover all those recipes anyway, I would have considered it a waste before knowing about this patch anyway. You don’t need to litter every crafting post with your disappointment.
only the weapon crafts (huntsman, artificing, weaponsmithing) have been increased to 500 to make ascended stuff. So the crafts you have right now are not. They did say that ascended armor will become available as well, I’d guess maybe in November or December, but that’s just my personal guess. They haven’t said anything about being able to craft ascended jewelry.
If you want an ascended weapon, you can either try your luck with RNG and hope to get one in the open world as a drop from the places you can get ascended crafting mats, or level up one of the weapon crafting professions and craft your own.
Good luck to you. Hope that helps
well that’s annoying, I had champion and group event done, lame!
well if the necro is deleted and it’s still soulbound to that necro, you may be out of luck. The usual way of unsoulbinding looks bound to a character is to have the character it’s soulbound to transmute the look onto a basic white item of the same type, which makes it account bound, then the character who wants the look and take it out of the bank and transmute it onto the armor piece they are using.
Hope that helps.
It works fine, I play with people from other servers in dungeons all the time, you just have to be in the right map. For example, if you want to do Ascalonian Catacombs, you just need to be in the Plains of Ashford and as soon as any member of the party goes in you will get a prompt to join them. If you go into the dungeon before grouping up, then yes, you would have an issue, but then you would just leave and then re-enter the instance and it will ask you to join your party. If you join a group that is already in the instance, you simply have to walk up to the dungeon door and go through and it will automatically put you with your party. I have had no trouble with this or using the lfg site. I have not had to enter and re-enter instances to get in the same overflow as my party since the first month of release, all you have to do is right click a party member and hit “join in overflow”. It works fine, perhaps you just don’t know how to use the tools properly.
Oh the surprise was probably supposed to be scarlets interruption, which sadly is just a predictable no-brainer. It would have been nice if there actually had been an interesting announcement instead of just blah blah blah plot device.
Yep, it’s going to take forever
I’m going to give you a 9/10. I love that his ears are black and tattered with all that flame around him it looks like his ears have been literally singed to pieces, and he’s happy about it. Kind of creepy, but in a good way. The hair is a nice fit too and the dye all ties in nicely.
My mesmer in a mix of cultural
I’ve been a little unsure about this as well. In the original post talking about crafting ascended gear, one sentence said new ascended items would be account bound just like the what we have so far, perhaps they were referring to drops? Because in another sentence they said that the time gating on ascended crafting would provide more value on the market for crafters, which makes it sound like if you craft it, it’s not immediately account bound.
quote: “This tier is time-constrained, so each item can only be made once per day in order to help give high-level crafters their own economy of items to build and sell that retain their value and rarity.”
and quote: “These weapons and armor will also be able to be found as rare drops from locations in the world. Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.”
