Think of it like this- at least we didn’t get nerfed even MORE right? right? * rocks back and forth in chair maniacally. *
Technically, pvpwise, it’s still kid of a nerf if the other classes get buffs. cough warrior cough
Yet another idea that worked well in GW1 that, for some reason, couldn’t be made to work in GW2.
Still 100% more than Rangers got.
Ugh, you all that are posting photos of fully clothed females characters don’t get it, or are missing the point.
Rift, to date had THE WORST armor. Brown, thick, boring, cover all, leather outfits. God awful.
Seems like that designer quit Trion Worlds, came over to Anet to ruin this armor as well.
There needs to be WAAAAAAAAY MORE skimpy, sexy armor for females. Of all classes. Leave the boring drab stuff for the Mormons and Christians to hide behind, the rest of us can enjoy the fantasy.
Please fix, 100% broken.
Lol do you not have the rest of the internet where you live? You want T & A? Google’s right there.
I much prefer to play a game that doesn’t treat women like complete sexual objects for horny nerds about as much as I prefer to play a game where there is a lower chance that the people I party up with aren’t trying to play with one hand.
never played gw1, what was the situation there?
Pretty much the same. The only difference is that it took a few years of nerfs to truely ruin the class where as they did it before the game even launched this time around.
Oh ya, and we saw sporadic glory in PvP only to have them go nuclear on the skills used because people couldn’t handle anything but balanced teams running out the clock.
This is terrible. Simply terrible. Is this the kind of community service we get for not paying a subscription?
Pretty much, they may be banking on people buying gems, but they still have far less reason to keep us on board vs a subscription game simply because they got 100% of the guaranteed money out of us already.
We’re a superfluous class. That’s pretty much the entire problem right there.
I LOLed pretty hard after looking through the list very slowly about 4 times to find the lack of even a mention of Ranger..
I leveled it fell in love with it and have been stuck playing Guardian because the class is so hopeless at the moment….
MAYBE the lack of Ranger notes is because they are reworking it from the ground up instead of just throwing a patch on a broken class…
riiighhhtttttt…………..
We will be a pure Beastmaster class. Its the same system as before except we can’t use weapons and our pets do 100% of our damage. There’s a special achievement you get to display for 6 months of solid game play without rage quitting. Very few will earn it…
Noticed that too. Also noticed that we don’t get a longbow or shortbow skin either. Thank you Anet for finally putting a nail in the coffin.
Hey, at least now we don’t have to worry about giving a kitten what the holiday weapons look like anymore.
You do realize that if gem prices rise, then the new players can get a bigger return on them if they convert real dollar gems to gold, right?
The more this happens the more the price will drop until it goes back to a level that benefits the people doing gold—>gems again.
Granted, it’s not perfect. They say they modeled it after CCP’s EvE PLEX system despite missing the two major factors that make that system work the way it does, but it’s not going to spiral out of control any time soon either.

I love how people seriously have convinced themselves that out of the probably hundreds of thousands playing this class, they alone have found this elusive secret uber-spec and insist they dare not share it.
They have found the miracle cure. Too bad it’s all snake oil and if they share the recipe we’ll all know it as well.
anet don’t strike me as a scrooge company, though. i mean, look at this game. really. you’re all playing it, surely. don’t you think they could have gotten away with charging a sub for this? i know i’d have paid for it. i haven’t seen many things where i thought, “oh, i can’t play this unless i buy something.” try playing a lot of other cashshop mmos. some of them are frustratingly bare without investing.
for me, i think this game has been extremely generous for a free/cashshop mmo. and anet still haven’t changed from being that nice bunch of guys. i think just some of us are getting a little too entitled?
i’d be happy to buy from the cashshop. i’m not personally into the whole gems for gold thing, but if there was anything attractive, i’d buy it. because, to be honest, i spent more on wow in its first few months than i have here. and that’s awesome.
You are entirely missing the point…its not about Us being greedy and not wanting to spend real money, and its not about us not having enough money for it.Its about the principle of not wanting to spend real money on Event items, things like that should be obtainable for Everybody Ingame, with doing Event quests and such. Not for the few that are willing to spend Real money on Event items, its pretty simple..if you’re willing to read.
In other words. the principle of entitlement.
They are giving us a free festival, free update with new things to do and a free hat. This was all stuff that people had to create concept art for, model, texture and program into the game. Are these people supposed to pay their bills with the combined gratitude of the game community?
Don’t kid yourself, this has everything to do with not wanting to spend money. Someone telling you you can’t have something for nothing doesn’t make you a martyr.
If you guys want to see them in game, the small Nightmare Court outpost on the west side of Caledon Forest is an easy way to check them out. Just request to be given a disguise again and you can check out a good portion of the weapons on the npcs in the area.
We did get a whole set of Xmas weapons though.
Cape/Banner/Cloth Clipping and YOU! Lets brainstorm ideas about how to solve an issue which has plagued video games for years.
Posted by: Substance E.4852
The problem is probably easily solved with good cloth deformers but it will have no effect if you turn those effects down in game and if you crank it up, you’ll use up a buttload of resources when 20-30 people around you have capes on.
Hawk’s idea is pretty plausible. That is how they did the event quests in GW1. I don’t see them sticking it to people with real life responsibilities by having events only happen at a certain time. Even if they are all like the dragon fights, unless you can do it multiple times for rewards most will just do it the first time and the stragglers will be left hardly any allies.
Seeing as how this is an online game, I have a hard time believing many of our fellow players can even touch their toes much less dodge roll.
Rangers are a highly mobile class. You might be doing it wrong

oh man that sounds like an awesome build …. if i was doing DEs in metrica province or some other lvl10 areas. bring that build to lvl 80 dungeons, and you might as well bring about 2 gold for gear repair.
I really wish it listed the lvl of people’s characters under their account name sometimes…
just realised rangers are the only class without a way to negate dmg effectively

I’ve fled to the safety of my zerg with 2 thieves and a warrior on my butt in WvW and made it in one piece.
Too many people coming from other MMO’s that treated armor with built in laser light shows and shoulder pads the size of Toyotas as something so mundane it was sold in the local ingame Walmart.
We should be so lucky as to fight something awesome like the Phyrexians…
Man, how brainwashed are you guys that you can’t find fun in something unless you gets points or ranked?
Besides, WvW is zerg or be zerged. No amount of slight pvp stat boosts will help you unless you are a roamer ganking people wandering alone which is what the salad shooter thief class is for already anyways.
So much of Anet’s problems with balancing the first game stemmed from the dual profession mechanic that I really don’t trust them with it a second time around.
I’d much rather they beef up combo effects to encourage their use a bit more.
“What kind of question is this….have you played a game when an EXPANSION PACK was free?”
Yes – Eve online has had over 17 expansions free.
To be fair, the PLEX→ISK→ Ship→Floating Wreck cycle has allowed them to tap into vast amounts of money. Those were also often times more like large content updates than strict expansions.
Forget negative posts...How about some positive news from ANET?

I don’t understand why there are so many Rangers crying about this profession that is totally viable and fun to play, what do you people need?
Does Anet need to come to your house show you how to play and rub your tummy?
It seems every profession forum is crammed full to bursting with complAints, and none of the posters are even Linking builds, man up,link some builds so you can be taught.
Feel free to do so yourself.
He should have said “go for it!”
I find it hard to believe that anyone gets flagged incorrectly for botting and spamming bogus reports can get you in trouble. Hell, I’m pretty sure even threatening to do so is against the rules.
It would take far less time and effort for them to simply log into the game, see these folks acting suspicious, pull up their game logs and see them doing the same thing for 36 hours strait, non-stop.
sigh
We’ll have to go over this one more time because some people just don’t get it. There is a big difference between the ridiculous roulette system of WoW and a system that lets you list GLF’s and LFG’s and let’s people form groups without having to wait forever and spam like idiots.
This was GW1 before party search. It was kittening horrible.
Fast forward a few years and Anet gives us Party Search. You press “P” to get what I described above and it was great. Parties could be easily formed (although at that point it was all just shadowform runs for the most part) and the chat could actually gasp be used for communication.
Nothing about the system prevented you from communicating with your party and frankly, if you didn’t you ran the risk of getting the infamous mending Wamo or some Monk fresh off the boat. Nobody wanted that.
You want to sit in town and mash “Enter, Up” for an hour, go for it. I’m sure you’ll make more BFF’s than you can handle. The rest of us will be waiting for a system that we know Anet is capable of and that works.
If you’re ranged and you’re pet is on passive/follow how does it die if you’re not getting hit? I understand some of the mechanics, like Giganticus, however if you dodge immediately when you see the red circles, your pet should make it out fine, too.
Why would you ever be in a fight and not have your pet attacking? You might as well just bring a ranged pet. They still fold faster than Superman on laundry day, but they tend to hit moving targets better and the jungle spider’s double stuns are pretty nice.
I don’t mind it but it’s probably the one place that Rangers can really outshine others. Plus I can fire a cloud of piranhas. That never gets old.
I do agree that they need the “enemy can’t reach you = Invulnrable” code because it’s pretty bad to encounter it with a spear gun but even worse when I’m hitting them with my spear/harpoon.
GASP Implying that spirits work in the same way that Warrior banners work and provide sustained bonuses with decent range and no health bar? Surely you jest good sir!
Maybe.
GW1 had it, it only took them like 5 years though.
Well, I, like many others, don’t have time to sit in town for ages forming a group of soon to be BFF’s. I would much rather have the old “p” function from GW1 that brought up a menu that had party listings and what they were looking for people for. It worked, and it eliminated, for the most part, the “GLF/LFG” spam that is the real scourge of socialization.
Odd, over on mmorpg.com, GW2 is the highest rated MMO out of the entire list.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/show/all/sCol/rankHype/sOrder/desc
Odd. Media companies make money from good reviews.
((also, if I was sent a free copy (copies!) of GW2 and a bunch of cool promotional stuff from Anet and NCSoft, I’d love the game, too.))
So you’re saying that ANet is the only one that pays review sites? Yeah, I’m sure that’s totally true.
Did I say that? Please quote me if I did. I’d love to read it (for the first time).
You missed the point: don’t give too much weight to a review from a company that has a vested interest in giving good reviews. Make YOUR OWN choice.
Of course you didn’t say it, but you implied it. No I didn’t miss the point, if you notice, there is an official MMORPG.com Review, and then a “User’s Review” section just below it. The ratings on that list come from the user reviews, not the official review.
I did not imply it. If I meant it, I would have said it.
And, yes, you missed the point. Otherwise, you still wouldn’t be pointing at OTHER PEOPLE’S reviews…
Do YOU like the game? That should be enough, no?
Careful, if you point out the obvious you might anger them even more.
Thankfully, the pizzeria offers other toppings and crust choices… See the point?
You get it, I get it, people who can’t see past the end of their nose will never get it. Welcome to the age of pop-culture, if 10 million people aren’t playing it (because 10 million people can’t be wrong of course), then they won’t even touch it.
Or perhaps because people want a multiplayer game with a robust, dynamic player community coupled with the fact that a large player base means that any time invested is likely to stick around for a while?
I’m gonna tell you right now, trying to use the longbow for Dungeons and PvP is a bad idea. Dungeons will make it very hard to sit at max range to get the most out of your #1 and any Warrior/Theif is going to close the gap and puree you before you can pump out any significant damage.
Are people actually paying that much or is that simply what the small fraction of people with access to them are listing them for? This is the real question…
ANet holds the industry standard for community management. If that’s not enough, no other studio has what you believe is enough. Sorry, but as someone in the general field, it just isn’t very reasonable. ANet is doing extremely well.
I would see CCP Dev’s and GM’s on the EvE forums all the time communicating like real people, not like they were reading prepared statements. They would also, typically, give some kind of sneak peek at what was in an upcoming update. They didn’t just dump it on people out of the blue.
Pick a direction and run with it. I may have had an easier time of it since the Sylvari home area is very linear and makes it harder to feel overwhelmed.
Try it with a ranger when your pet is running around, rolling up a risen Katamari for you to deal with.
The problem is that to balance this they have to change the way they designed the power creep in the game. When enemies have millions of hit points and can kill you in a couple of hits, the only real thing you can do is kite. If a class sucks at ranged, they will have almost nothing to contribute to the battle.
While I never felt the mobs were too difficult individually, the density of Orr is pretty ridiculous. It becomes a real annoyance when 50-75% of the WP’s are contested and I can’t hoof it anywhere quick because the enemies are stacked 10 feet from one another.
I’m assuming the back slot was where our guild capes were supposed to go, but since that and halls has been put into indefinite development limbo (no one adored those features in GW1?), it really feels tacked on as best.
Ya that was a the most I’ve ever been disappointed in the art team in this game. GW1 had a redonk amount of junk you could hold as a focus. Fans, beer mugs, floaty gems, even the Factions voodoo doll.
I am on the fence about these events. I really don’t know how I feel about my “fake world” emulating my “real world”.
Is it cool? I guess it is. But at the same time it’s also just so cookie-cutterish. The added content is nice, sure. But I can get this same thing in every MMO- … wait. Nope. Not every MMO. EVE Online never pulled this trick. Interesting…
Yeah. It’s a bit “lame” to just throw in a real world holiday. I’m grateful for the added content. I just wish it were original.
Considering Holloween has devolved into Proto-Chistmas season, it’s nice to get a dose of it, even if it’s just a virtual world. Also, EvE doesn’t care about anything but moon goo and loadout stats. You could delete all polygons and make every ship a flying image plane and the players wouldn’t care.
I always watch them, you turn invulnerable so there’s no risk and the art team did an amazing, mind blowing job.
How do they make more money out of this system than the one that FORCED your to buy certain color on gemstore?
Because not everyone has a compulsion to collect the rainbow. If I just wanted a few dyes I would buy them and be happy. End of story. With random packs, you keep buying them with the hopes that the RNG gods smile upon you and give you want you want.
Wow, seriosuly, bravo. You win. I wont tell you what but you certainly win.
Why do you keep buying them if you know you will potentially not ever get the color you want?
You get dyes by:
killing monster 100% free random color from common to rare
gathering plants 100% free random color from common to rare
cooking Cost material you gather(and get dye doing so) to cook random color of the shade you want of the rarity you want
Trading post You pay in game money between 1 copper to 5 gold to get exactly the color you want.
Gemstore You pay real money, or about 1.5 gold to get 5 random bottle of unknow color and rarity. You are assured that 2 of them will be either uncommon or rare.Yet you chose the last one.
I ask again, why?If you wanted what you want, you’d act in a way that gives it to you. Now you just act randomly expecting to win whatever.
I just cannot believe you’re serious.
When did I ever say I bought a random pack? I was illustrating the reason why there isn’t just a menu to pick and choose which you want to spend gems on.
We may never know what award I won, but you have certainly taken home the “Lack of Reading Comprehension/Jumping to Conclusions” Best In Show.
I have 40-50 chests in storage (I toss one out of every three just to free up inventory space sometimes) and I have only ever gotten 4 keys from lvl 1-80.
Team Fortress 2 would be a great game to model after in terms of features offered. I was expecting at release GW2 would have most of the sPvP features that TF2 had and even innovate beyond that. Sadly it’s a very, very long way from even
matching TF2
Oh man, comparing Anet to Valve isn’t even remotely fair. Valve learned a long time ago that actually giving people what they want works for you and the customer.
Still, valid points all around.
