Can I just say that Arena Net hates any class that doesn’t wear Heavy Armor at this point?
Except for eles. Apparently.
Aren’t they still supposed to be nerfing AoE damage at some point here or did they sweep that under the rug?
oh kitten just make the rare and all derivatives from the said rare account bound already. There! No more farming for ecto to sell, no more selling rares on TP, only farm for own use or for own farming to legendary. Removes the bots from the equation and reduces populations attending these events? Done? Done.
Ya, who needs trading in an online multiplayer RPG anyway? Right fellas!?
Please don’t tell me that the developers actually know what they are doing because every patch they release makes it more and more obvious that they don’t play the same game we do.
If you believe – you truly believe – that the developers aren’t competent then why are you still playing? If the developers are as clueless as some of you make them out to be, then the game is doomed and you might as well abandon ship now.
Because it costs me nothing to play and I see the potential in the game and still figure with enough prodding they might actually wake up and make the game they advertised so energetically. I really only log in to dailies and to WvW if I have time.
I assure you I would have been gone in a heartbeat after the Nov update if I had to pay a monthly fee to play.
The 1H sword make me want to faceplam through my skull (wtf is that even supposed to be?)
The rest are really nice though but I feel if they did put emblems on them it should be something you can toggle.
We all care about this game, in one way or another. Enough to come here and criticize and complain in the hopes that it gets better. It gets nasty when people get ignored, continuously, for months. That’s when the nails come out.
The problem is that people are often wrong. They get upset when they’re told they’re wrong. And they get upset when they’re ignored.
I know half the people posting on this board think they know the game better than the developers, but few of them even understand – fully understand – their own class. Sure, they might know how to play a build or two, but how many posters in the profession sub-forums give the impression they really understand their profession on a deeper level than “the website said to take these skills, those traits, and run that rotation”? And of those, how many give the impression the even care about – let alone understand – their profession’s balance against all others in PvE, PvP, and WvW? From my experience, not very many.
We just finally got Agony Resistance on Ranger pets. Prior to this patch pets would be next to useless in any fractal higher than 10 because they would be dead the second the effect appeared thereby disabling a large portion of both damage and utility of the class. And this is on a class that is already seen as pretty much pointless in high-end PvE to begin with.
We had to kitten and moan since the launch of Fractals to get this fixed. This should have never been an issue from the start.
Please don’t tell me that the developers actually know what they are doing because every patch they release makes it more and more obvious that they don’t play the same game we do.
But a dark outlook and a negative attitude doesn’t help the community or the game developers make it any better.
Praising failure doesn’t help them make it any better either. What do you suggest?
I suggest that when something is taken away that you disagree with to give your opinion on what could be better placed in game to replace it. If you truly believe that it didn’t deserve to be taken away or changed then state that as well. I’m not simply complaining that people should just be OK with every change, or follow blindly. I’m simply saying that people need to look at long term and see what can benefit everyone. And that people give ideas and feedback that is more than just destructive criticism or turn threads into 4 walls of arguments against each other. Because strife among one another gets us no where, and degrading the people you ask change from does nothing to help as well.
Where as, in the real world, when you want something changed and are ignored you have two choices; give up and leave or shout louder.
Sorry to say that the option that isn’t speak up louder also means that all the apologists also get screwed because if enough people leave the game shuts down.
Playing the game for 46 days (or roughly 1100/24) is not the same as being here the entire time. You talk about ‘wait and see’ when we have.
Sorry to say, the game keeps getting worse. You just need to get out of the honeymoon phase and realize it.
I’ve been here from the beginning. I’m talking about “following the game since 2010” beginning. And I can say I’ve never in my life seen a whinier, more short-sighted community than this games. The amount of crying going on in the profession sub-forums, people lamenting that their class is no longer playable because their overpowered and/or gimmicky build was balanced, is ridiculous.
To be fair, the amount of workarounds available in this game are severely limited. If they change a skill outright or just nerf it hard it can be difficult if not impossible to recreate your build again.
Not to say I lament the salad shooter bubble being hit hard, but I can see how it still hurts.
I’ve waited over 7 months and the only thing that has really improved are bugs, which were just replaced with new ones. The game constantly introduces grind after grind with each passing month and only seems to be getting worse. How am I suppose to act like the game is headed in the right direction? I’m sorry, but things are only getting worse.
P.S.
WTB the old ArenaNet.
I’m beginning to feel more and more that most everyone who made the first game the rousing success it was, the game that said “Hey, you don’t have to be WoW 2.0 to work!” have pretty much all been let go or have crumbled under the corporate boot.
…But, perhaps more significantly they have nerfed one successful dungeon team: anchor guardian, berserker warrior, and mesmer…There will be some who see this as a step in the direction of team diversity.
Pre-patch I thought the strongest team in PvE was something like 3 Warriors, a Guardian, and a Mesmer; 2 Warriors, 2 Guardians, and a Mesmer for harder content.
Post-patch, I believe the strongest team is 3 Warriors and 2 Guardians.
Good job?
Considering that’s all Anet wants anyone to play? Ya, mission accomplished. Roll out the banner…

Hell, I find it hard to take anyone seriously, on any subject, when they play video games for roughly 12 hours a day*, everyday, even regarding that game itself.
- (that’s assuming a total game career time of 93 hours, or about three months)
Seriously a warrior quickness nerf that matters mainly in pvp and wvw (killing their one viable build that was good and fun), but a buff to banners which matters mainly for pve. This has to be A-net trolling. Warrior was already laughably bad in everything besides pve. Now he’ll he’s just a literal joke.
looks like their decisions r made by rolling a dice
Just replace “DCI” with “Anet”
Ah, the standard, delusional “I’m the only one who’s right and everyone else is wrong!” thread after an update.
Feel free to backup you claims of curbstompery with some kind of evidence and not just “See! Trap builds! SEEE!!!!”
I’m getting the feeling there is no one on the balance team that actually has the ranger’s best interest at heart. That, or the dev that was responsible for watchin over us left because he couldn’t take being ignored.
There are only two of them, Jon and some other unnamed individual.
And I think we all know how much Jon loves rangers…
It’s just enough to boost banners while still leaving the ethereal Janga towers untouched for another month.
Oh please. PvP-wise, warriors got nerfed, which is what the entire warrior community was crying out to have fixed. Instead we get some banners and two skills that nobody uses buffed, barely.
Skills that nobody uses?
I thought such skills didn’t exist in GW2, considering that was the whole point of removing the large skill pool that was GW1.
You haven’t played Ranger I see…
“Ranger pet cooldowns are now properly preserved when stabled.”
That’s a massive nerf.
Also, warriors banners being given double the bonuses while still being indestructible, mobile and having effects with a 100% uptime all without being traited is unbelievable.
Meanwhile, ranger spirits who have to be completely traited into to be even close to banners (and even then are light years away and still die in 2 hits from just about anything) aren’t deserving of an update.
It’s Anet’s not so subtle way of saying “Roll a warrior because we don’t give a flying kitten about the Ranger and kind of wish we never made it in the first place”.
No, the probelm is with anet.
Rather than this setting off a huge red flag that particular classes deal way to much kittening damage, they decided it was better to nerf a buff that lent some sense of equality to the battlefield. Thieves didn’t need quickness to deal 5k backstabs and warriors didn’t need quickness to run around with both tank and spank. They’ll make due just fine where as we needed it for almost every single decent damage build and took a 25% damage nerf because of it, on a class that is near bottom if not last in terms of damage output.
The least they could have done would be to double the duration of the effect to balance the reduction in potency but I guess that’s asking too much.
(edited by Substance E.4852)
That skill no one ever uses because it’s garbage and not because it’s ‘bugged’?
Sounds like anet.Shrug, each to his own I guess. I don’t use it frequently, but in certain specific encounters I find it invaluable, even if it has some problems activating. But I’ll have to see for myself when I test it later.
I like it in theory, but the last time I used it in a fractal the pet heals for 10 a tick which is probably even slower than using a revive orb assuming it doesn’t get killed by the rampaging instagib boss.
It either needs a massive boost to the rate it heals, or a massive reduction to the cool down. As it stands, it’s just not worth a slot.
Although, if player healing power would affect the pet as well and this wouldn’t even be an issue in the first place. But, that won’t happen. It’s not like the thing is supposed to be half our class or anything…
And you thought the huge nerf wouldn’t also affect a skill that has been bugged for a long time now why exactly?
I have all class at 80s.Before this patch my main was Ranger.
I need a suggestion, which class can i play for raise a WvW rank?
Can’t go wrong with the holy trinity of Warrior, Mesmer or Guardian.
Most love guardians in their zerg for the group swiftness and blast finisher on the hammer to trigger aoe might ect.
But honestly, it’s dealers choice if you can play them all well.
Downed hit 3 and low and behold bear is standing on me not ressing, has happened a couple times now post patch, “Pet-revive skills no longer fail to heal their target.” great fix thanks anet.
Perhaps they mean Search and Rescue? Will test it later when I get back.
That skill no one ever uses because it’s garbage and not because it’s ‘bugged’?
Sounds like anet.
Hey, what about pet swapping not refreshing pet cooldowns anymore? Doesn’t that kinda…y’know…suck?
Kind of a moot point now that quickness has been nerfed to hell.
~5 months ago … “We know Ranger is currently the class in most need of help” … Ranger receives nerfs patch after patch.
“Big” WvW Patch gets pushed back 1 month because it’s not ready … patch forces ArenaNet to disable World vs World …
I’m again forced to question quality assurance.
lol Anet doesn’t do QA.
Hell, the whole game industry doesn’t do QA anymore.
Much cheaper to put out a half done product and crowd-source the bugs rather than actually pay people to make sure the thing works properly.
If Anet made cars the streets would be filled with corpses.
Anet oversells practically everything at this point. I wouldn’t be surprised if these new npcs just stand around giving out a few lines of dialogue or initiate some repeatable world event.
Lol, yes, biased in favor of rangers. I guess that’s why we re the go to class for dungeons, spvp and wvw and pretty much anything that can’t be #1’d to death.
You proved my point quite well with your statement.
I am thinking you misunderstood him Rangers are not really the go to class we need help
Rob is the hero we deserve but not te one we need (not actually on the balance/update team and can’t have any direct influence but still greatly appreciated none the less.)
Lol, yes, biased in favor of rangers. I guess that’s why we re the go to class for dungeons, spvp and wvw and pretty much anything that can’t be #1’d to death.
How are Elonans a “seperate race”? In GW1 they were just people of African and Mediterranean decent as per their culture themes.
If anything, they would just put new sets of faces, skins and hair styles in the CC menu to sell the gemstore items.
Gw2 will have been released for one year in August. Looking at the laundry list of things to do, I don’t expect any MAJOR future improvements for Ranger before August. I’d be willing to guess 2014 for them to be in better shape with a healthier pet AI and that’s being optimistic. Anet is overly cautious with change and class balance, to the point it’s hindering their credibility.
They weren’t overly cautious when they nerfed every single ranger weapon and trait line during the betas even before the full selection of professions was available.
They Smiter’s Boon’d the entire profession in an incomplete balance environment and never once admitted that it wasn’t the right thing to do.
Just like Paragons in GW1, really. I’m still waiting for that rework. Waiting for more than 5 years now.
Woaw now, don’t even joke about that. If we really are the Para’s of GW2 then I will just uninstall right now.
I PvP mainly and I haven’t found any problems with the ranger in 1v1s, except thiefs of course. Yea, maybe I can’t use greatsword whirlwind and whip out 10k damage, but after playing for so long and understanding how every single class works, I find that the ranger can easily kill every class (except thief). I don’t get where all this negative talk about the ranger is coming from. If it’s about PvE, then I wouldn’t know cause I don’t do any dungeons.
Lol we can’t whirlwind for 10k but we sure as hell can rapid fire for +10k! Masters of the bow indeed!!
@Rest if people; I’m really dumbfounded that our class mechanic didn’t deal with our nature attunement (expertise) or preparations, because those were significantly more “ranger” in GW1 than pets, granted pets were a big thing, but it’s like MM for necros, not everyone used it, but kitten near every ranger had a ton of expertise and a prep or two!
Oh no, this is GW2. If you want preps you have to roll a thief. Anet decided the best part of our class shouldn’t stick around for 2.0 is seems.
bumping, does no one care about this issue with one of the potentially most useful pets?
I find it pointless to even bring it up when the developers thought the ridiculous windup on pet skills was a “good idea” in the first place.
Warriors can fart out an AoE fear at will but we have to wait 2 seconds (assuming it doesn’t glitch out) and by then the target will have moved out of range or the wolf will be dead because the zerg you wanted to scatter tore it apart like tissue paper.
It’s kittening ridiculous that my sword brings down mobs faster than than either bow. Seriously? If I want to do decent dps as a “RANGEr” i have to use melee weapons. GG anet.
Not to be “that person” but…
Ranger (n):
late 14c., “gamekeeper,” agent noun from range (v.)). Attested from 1660s in sense of “man (often mounted) who polices an area.”Range (v):
c.1200, rengen, “move over a large area, roam with the purpose of searching or hunting,” from Old French rengier (see range (n.)).The “range” part in “ranger” refers to range (v.) not range (n.), so the argument that a ranger is a ranged fighter just isn’t valid.
Well we’re also pretty kittenty roamers/scouts as well.
robert if you already at the raven, please check the black widow spider to, it has very low health, while the other spider is 37xx he is just 13xx, make it worsT spider to use
, please take care of this cause this is my best HOM reward
Zounds! You are correct! But that was also foreseen by the designer who fixed the White Raven, so expect that to be fixed as well next patch!
When they do that could they also fix the tool tip for the white raven? It still lists the lower stats and I had no idea the thing was even fixed.
The next time your in a group and your fighting hard content and your group wipes or nearly wipes take note who is the last one standing. Most times I bet it’s the Ranger and the Guardian (maybe an ele). In my experience if the ranger is half decent he can prevent the wipe while the Guardian is capable of finishing the fight if you want to wait 30 minutes for him to do it.
You cant go by what everyone else does or thinks. 3 months ago all ranger except a small minority thought the 1h sword was the worst weapon in our arsenal. Now it is arguably considered on of the best.
Rangers have a PR problem. But that doesnt mean that, that perception is the reality of the Rangers capablities.
People thought (and still think) the 1h sword is bad mostly because it glues you to the target and makes dodging very difficult. The #2 and 3 skills also used to be very glitchy and would often miss entirely. No one ever though it dealt poor damage.
One of the reasons why the Ranger and pet are built the way that they are, is because if we gave the ranger all the power, then the pet would have to be useless and vestigial, or everyone would claim rangers are OP.
I have to disagree. IMO it will be impossible to balance the ranger unless more of the dps is distributed to the ranger. we all ready rely on the pets for most our CC and our only blast finisher is from a pet. as it is right now the ranger is to dependent on the pets. there are to many situations that the pet is useless putting the ranger at a huge disadvantage. even when you are not in one of the following situations the ranger is at a slight disadvantage because of how easy it is to kite pets in a circle.
1. large WvW fights
2. tower/keep takes
3. tower/keep defense
4. fractals
5. fighting a thief, its just a free C&D.other classes are not so dependent on their class mechanic and sure don’t lose 40% dps for being in said situation. few examples are.
Thief – take steal away from them and they would still be good.
Warrior – can do good dps without using adrenaline. in fact have traits that give bonus damage % and crit % for not using it, someone probably even has a build built around keeping it full as much as possible.
elle – well they really don’t have a class mechanic, it is basically their weapon swaps.
mesmer – not really sure about them, however have seen them do great in zergs. so i would guess that have some builds not to dependent on clones.
Never mind that they don’t have to worry about these abilities being shut down because their little sidekick NPC died.
God is in the details. Some of you heard some tid bit or fact and jump of a cliff with that information.
A skilled player can solo most end game content. The fact that Anet says they dont want to buff ranger pets cuz then two ranger will mow down alot of content isnt invalid as a reason. The fact that it can be done isnt quite as important as how fast it can be done.
One must decide to go glass cannon or bunker. There are degrees but ultimatily you are leaning more one way or the other. With a pet buff a ranger could choose glass and not suffer in the least in pve.
Anet cant ignore pve. PVE player tend to be more loyal to titles than pvpers (where pv kitten eperate from pve).
Side note PvE content is a million times easier on a ranger at least from my experience. While leveling I could easily fight mobs up to 7 levels higher. I cant do that on my warrior mesmer ele or thief itsdo able on my guardian butit takes so much longer. Why do you think botter use rangers.
That must be why everyone is always spamming “GLF Rangers!” when doing dungeon runs…
Honestly I wouldn’t mind trading that auto-evade for a considerable damage boost.
I would. The Ranger GS may hit like a pool noodle, but in major WvW zerg fights, the auto evade is about the only thing keeping me alive when the lag is so bad you can’t even activate healing skills.
I doubt that ranger will have any significant change in the future.
Right now we are:
King of open field PVE;
One of the best in SPVP (if not the best but definitely TOP3);
Doing OK in dungeons (although not preferred classes);
Sucks in WvW and tPVP.Over all, it’s pretty balanced. If anything improved in WvW ranger will become over-powered then you won’t see other classes anymore.
We are hardly the “king” of overworld PvE. That stuff is so stupidly easy that no class really shines but I can guarantee that the classes that do better in dungeons are doing better in all the rest of pve as well.
Nothing has the survivability of a theif. Cloak has 0 counters and up until the latest update, they got ~3 seconds of cloak for free from craptacular culling design.
About the only other class that can even come close is an Ele comboing mist form and ride the lightning in order to avoid a fight.
There’s a reason why people laugh at real-life comparisons. Because they’re extremes and really silly to compare it to. You’re comparing a slight increase in power in a video game, to a major life-changing event. Get over it.
The logic is identical.
You don’t think something is a problem now, while it can still be mitigated, but then you want to maintain the right to complain if it becomes a problem later, after it’s much too late to fix.
I understand that perhaps you do not see any problem with a total lack of foresight, but at least comprehend the fact that some of us like to try and fix problems before they become too serious to ignore.
13% still is meaningless.
Then go into work tomorrow and tell your boss that you’re okay with a 13% pay cut, because after all, it’s completely meaningless.
Yes, that’s another real life comparison. Guess you’ll just have to “get over it”.
It’s not a problem and never will be. 13% is not something to care about in a game like this.
Go tell someone their Legendary won’t get upgraded to pink stats when Ascended weapons come out and see how well they take it.
It depends very much on the players more than build. In a vacuum, the Ranger would have to try much much harder to win than the Mesmer would ever have to and that alone makes it a very one sided match.
Using Healing Signet will put aggression on you as a Ranger.
Doesn’t matter if you don’t use any DPS.
I haven’t experienced this personally but I could see it happening.
I tend to run a condition build using shortbow and sword\dagger, and focus on being supportive and holding aggro while keeping a steady output of DPS through conditions.
/facepalm.
and how are rangers stronger than any other prof in open world pve? what does that even mean? who cares about open world pve? rangers are broken in higher level dungeons and wvw.
He’s just like every other person who thinks destroying overworld white enemies = powerful.
What does “hold aggro” even mean? This isn’t WoW. Enemies go after who is doing the most dps for the most part and it certainly isn’t going to be a ranger. Sometimes you can get their attention by spamming interrupts but that’s not a guarantee.
If the developers need feedback on pets in dungeons, We’re in more trouble then we thought.
Personally I’ve gone through just about every explorable mode without my pet dying… Granted I have 30pts in BM, so that may be why.
PS: I use drakes, fire and reef, or a fern wolf+ Moa/Drake combo and have no problem either way, and YES I keep my pet on the boss/mob for well over 80% of the fight, with a few exceptions.
TA Patch 1 I think it is, if you teleport inside the shield part, it’ll auto kill your pet, if you swtich pets while inside, it also auto kills your pet.
My pets die in the dungeons, not a whole lot since i’m 30 BM also, but they die enough that its annoying as hell.
Fractals past 10 start to get really annoying on them as well.
Double digit fractals might as well remove pets altogether since they will tank nothing but the ground and make killing the Maw take even longer because the kitten thing targets your pet which obviously accomplishes nothing for the team.
The fact that a dev who claims to play the class doesn’t know this is just silly and furthers my theory that they just don’t play the class at all.
The thing is that even if they gained a ton of tank ability pets won’t become ungodly meatshields. Enemies target the person/entity that deals the most damage to them. Unless you go full tank BM, you will always out dps your pet. It’s the reason the enemy pretty much stops attacking your pet once you get past lvl 50-60. I was actually surprised how much my pet was surviving in Orr until I realized that almost every enemy acts like it isn’t even there.
I too suggested pet evade or invulnerability on dodge in another topic so i agree 100% i think invul would be better then evade because IIRC invulnerability doesnt stop conditions being applied, in my opinion they should make dealing with pets be about using control ie knockbacks, immobilise, stun. the job of the pets is to be a distraction, hunt down wounded prey and track hidden targets, thus fulfilling the paradigm of a woodsmen class, if a player or mob is focused on the pet and not the ranger he should be quickly defeated, ah but ofcourse this isnt the case today.
Invulnerability would also prevent any kind of animation issues that they obviously seem to have a hard time dealing with (pets not using F2’s until their attack is done ect.)
Well, if you’re in wvw a lot, everything is pretty much red all the time now anyway. Spent 10g for a cool black? Too bad.
By red I assume you mean invisible?
Because blast finishers heal for more and don’t put you in downed mode because you stood still for several seconds in a zerg/boss fight like a fool.
I think Chopps is aiming at a world championship in arrogance and rudeness unless he’s bored and trolling his butt off, I suggest you others ignore him from now on I know I will.
Him and every other Ranger messiah that makes bold claims with little to no proof.
1300 hours on ranger here—huge fan of the profession.
The problem with the profession is the (gasp) players. Most rangers are so bad even I get a bad taste in my mouth when I see one join my party. No rangers “get it” right away…I was one of those low DPS longbow rangers in PvE one time. I was kicked out of groups at one time. Let me explain how to avoid that.
Rangers in spvp and wvw pwn with condition damage. But you cannot use condi in PvE due to caps (it’s wasted on the cap). So effective ranger PvE is a dance with death: sword / warhorn and axe / axe. When you can’t stay in the melee range for too long (bah no guardians in party!!! Nooo I want to use my sword! Lol), Hornet’s sting out and throw that chilly axe.
Drop your Healing Spring and whirl in it to heal party.
Let’s review: PvE 25/25/0/0/30 berserker / rune of ranger / cats / axe axe and sword warhorn.
sPvp: watch gasmask play on youtube.
Wvw: longbow to defend keep and greatsword for motion…wvw is fun bc many ranger builds are viable there.
And…only myself and other rangers in my guild play that way. We’re the only successful rangers we know so we mist be doing something right.
Search reddit.com/r/guildwars2 for Faelwans’s burst ranger (“My attempt at a ranger burst test”) to watch my youtube video doing a timed kill of a vet. Enemy in the same amount of time (actually 1 second faster) than strife’s popular warrior build.
Ranger’s are not gimped, people need more practice with them. It’s hard to live on the edge of death like Indiana Jones.
So what you are saying is the class is perfectly balanced with the theif in pvp and the warrior in pve because all it needs is us to play roughly 7 hours a day, everyday, for six months to master it’s finely tuned abilities?
It’s been six months since the game’s release.
If they’ve been “quietly working on it” they should have more to show for it by now. I’ve been keeping an eye on the patch notes looking for an excuse to log back into the game for over three months now and I have yet to see anything significant regarding the ranger.
Then don’t log in until it’s all better for you. You lose nothing for it. Oh, but don’t forget to cancel your subscription in the mean time.
Also never pointing out issues or expressing one’s frustration always helps the developers make a better game because no wait it doesn’t.
I never said you shouldn’t express your issues and frustrations. Read.
I said you shouldn’t be a complete pissant about it if you expect the devs to communicate with you.
The reason they aren’t is because for the greater part, you lot are utter knarks about the whole thing. No sympathy or any understanding about the whole process of development.
(inb4 im a former dev and i would do this soo much better, go do it then ham)
I want it now, why can’t I have it now, it’s taking way too long, anybody else would do this much faster, give me details that you can’t give me, and at what day and hour can I expect it?
And God help you if it’s even a moment late!
Seriously. What do you expect a dev to say to you? Besides maybe screw you? So since they can’t say that, they’ll just let you sit there and cry about it.
Lol… you people lack common sense in addition to common courtesy.
I know right? How dare we expect services rendered for what we payed? It’s ludicrous!
This isn’t some charity and it’s not some f2p k-mmo. This is a AAA title that we all paid premium game prices for with the expectation and promise of regular maintenance and updates, even more so when it became abundantly obvious that they shipped an unfinished product.
We may lack common decency, but it gets things done faster than being a complacent doormat.
