Many People: “I’ll give you money for a ‘Pirate’ Quaggan plushie.”
Result: No plushie
Many People: “I’ll NEVER give you money again if you institute a gear grind.”
Result: Gear grind
Conclusion: Shaka when the walls fell!
Say “buh-bye” to my wallet, ’cause it sure said “buh-bye” to you!
Pff, give people what they want? What do you think this is, Valve?
It’s obviously much more economically sound to cheat people out of money with kitteny rng boxes than do things like sell plushies.
after reading all this whining I`d make a ranger just to show you ppl wrong.
SOOOOO MAAAAAANY lamenting * come on!on second thought I won`t roll a ranger so that I won`t be mistaken with one of you guys who are always complaining and stumping your foot at AN!
kitten guys, man it up.
So what you are saying is we are wrong but you not only have no examples of this, but that you personally have no idea what you are talking about?
Has the internet itself become self aware and posting on game forums now?
I would have rather they added the infusion mechanic to the exotic tier. New mechanics and ways of setting up builds is a good thing, and sorely needed in GW2, but it really shouldn’t have a new equipment tier as a prerequisite.
It worked just fine in GW1 when they created the inscription slot and insignias.
Pets still don’t actually come heal you when you’re dead.
I’ve only ever expereinced this when I’m on an incline plane but it’s still very annoying considering that the lick wounds skill is hilariously crappy to begin with.
I believe the best way to get them to solve the problem is to buy more event chests.

Iknorite?! Just think of how much harder it will be to portal bomb and cast illusion on keep/tower walls after this patch!
So are you saying you were one of the mouth breathing people that couldn’t figure out they could 1 (tops) 2 shot the illusion that was on the wall attacking them? I have no issue with the portal being adjusted if it was needed but killing the damage on the entire class was uncalled for. My ele is better at clearing walls than my mesmer would ever be. This is an across the board hit to the mesmer not just in WvW.
It’s an issue when I have to jump of a ballista to keep the constant parade of illusions from causing irreparable damage to it. Sorry you have to think when casting illusions from now on, it must be very stressful.
Does the OP and the other people complaining think that there is like, one person at ArenaNet working on fixing everything?
And that one person twiddled with Warriors first and ignored everything else?
SERIOUSLY?
Jeez, THINK about it! There will be a team of people. The team member assigned to fix the Warrior stuff probably had the easiest job, finished up before the others, and therefore simply got their stuff out soonest.
I really can’t believe it means that Warriors were higher priority, or that Warriors are the main focus, or that other stuff isn’t being worked on at the same time. It’s simply not plausible.
It’s actually just 2 people.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/General-Patch-Discussion-merged/page/3
There are >500 skills in this game, 480 traits, and 2 designers working on this. Even then often we are bottle necked by other issues. I’m not going to say we are not working on these things, nor can I say there are things we could have changed but just ran out of time on, but this was a patch that contained ranger improvements and it will not be the last one that does so. Maybe you want more than honesty but that is what I currently have to offer.

so warriors get 10% dmg buff on longbow and added some projectile finishers and a fix on a tooltip for bulls charge for the patch, while most other classes get a large list of bug fixes and adjustments. clearly Anet favours warriors
Ya, because the Warrior class is clearly not one of the, if not the, most powerful and robust classes in the game right now. I mean, when I WvW I all I see is an endless swarm of Rangers, Necros and Engineers. I rarely, if ever, see a Warrior. You guys clearly needed a good amount of attention. The Ranger got 0 updates last round, it’s only fair the Warrior see the majority of the love this time.
are we even reading the same patch notes? i won;t argue that rangers need even more love than they got in this patch but the warrior fixes were so very very minor. 1 buff and some tooltip updates.
It has nothing to do with what we got and everything to do with the best class in the game complaining because they didn’t get anything. I’m not going to claim to know much about the warrior’s in’s and out’s, but whatever problems you guys have to deal with, it’s obviously not holding you back much and you certainly didn’t come out if it any worse off than before.
i’m not complaining that i didn’t get anything, i’m trying to argue the point that OMG Anet is focusing on warriors too much is silly when all they did was change a number and some text.
Fair enough.
I did think the longbow buff was rather odd given that I can’t actually recall ever seeing a warrior use a bow although maybe that was their reasoning.

We don’t want tidbits of information, we want to know why there are 2 people working on class balances and why Warriors and Engineers and nearly every other class got some significant changes while all we got was Harpoon damage increased by 50%.
My expectations of them fixing our utility skills was NOT a 10% increase in chance for a 100hp spirit to give me 2 seconds of +10% damage.
Not that I don’t feel your pain but Engineers got nothing but tooltip fixes and nerfs. Not sure why you envy us exactly.
To be fair, this is also after we received 0 updates last round and were told that they were coming in full this time around.
@swiftpaw
It’s all an excuse. If they had spent all that time ‘fixing’ the other 7 professions, and these fixes were core issues might I add, then they surely had time to look through the core mechanics of the ranger profession, ESPECIALLY the pet.
I can alrdy foresee the official response. “Sorry guys, fixing the ranger is a lot more difficult/complicated than expected, we will get to it soonTM”
I would be surprised if we receive anything more than the passive aggressive, “get off our backs already” response we have already gotten.
Had my hopes up for this one. Booo JonPeters! Now go home and think about what you’ve done.
Bad move by Anet. Really bad.
A much more poetic punishment would be to force him to play several hours of pvp with a ranger against decent players.
Awesome! Finally a game with no gear treadmill….
LOLOLOLOL!!!! You’re a funny cat…
I didn’t know Rodney Dangerfield played GW2…
I got one!!! : “Wow…the Forums are sure lacking complainers over absolutely nothing!”
“I never see anyone complain about people having an opinion they don’t agree with!”
Sorry to tell you but the game identifies the item based on the one that had the stats that you used, aka the one that wasn’t souldbound. Try equip/equipping it. The prompt will display the name of the item you applied the skin to. It may look like a lengendary but you just have a pretty exotic now.
Thief for glory.

Good list posted by OP. The sad thing is, for the past month so many constructive threads, none taken. There needs to be an independent review by Gamespy or some other known reviewer to state these facts and the delay taken by Anet to correct these issues. Then Anet will probably act with more haste.
Sad state of responsiveness to community feedback.
The problem is that the class still attracts masochists that take pride in being less effective in PvE and having 1:100 KDR’s in pvp so it will be a long time before the player numbers reflect actual performance.
They made a game where everyone can do everything and there are no class roles. With that said, when I can make a warrior and rock at everything in the game, no one will care if one or more other classes are crummy.
i tried GS it still sucks….i was out damaging it with my shortbow. Rangers are completely useless in close combat against all other melee.
This is still pretty much true. The only time I will get into a fistycuffs duel is against a perma stealth thief since they have to sacrifice a lot of damage potential to pull off the build. Warriors will beat you 100% of the time and most Guardians i have faced didn’t necessarily do more DPS than me but they did have a much higher amount of survivability and would ultimately outlast me until I finally died, gave up or their zerg swarmed me.
If anything, I would add the idea of flipping the order of Monarch Flight and Hornet Sting as it would give the sword a gap closer and make it possible to use our hardest hitting sword skill on demand rather than have to fly backwards first as we already have a dodge in Serpent Strike and another in the dagger #4 skill.
Learn to unclick and turn around.
Its a hassle ><
but worksThat’s the first thing I practiced when i picked up the weapon.
The ‘roll away’ is a gap closer, it just doesn’t hit at the end
Then you save the leap for if they get out of your reach again in the next 4~ seconds.
It works extremely well with a lil practice, I just rarely ever see anyone go for it.
I’ve started doing this to get around WvW faster but it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Since they technically didn’t make us any worse it’s not as though I won’t keep on with business as usual but I definitely won’t believe a word Jon says for a good long time.
I plan on never leaving the water as that is were we are apparently supposed to be with these new changes and the Jellyfish being the only pet in the entire roster that doesn’t throw in the towel after 1 punch.
Guys, guys guys.
Didn’t he basically implied in his post that he would release the upgrades on rangers in parts?
While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.
Unless they did all the changes they thought was necessary in this one patch, wouldn’t they eventually release more fixes and buffs to ranger on next balance patch?
If we only get one balance patch per month, and we only get measly changes like these in them, how long until all the changes are implemented? 2 months? 3? 6?
I’d say right before GW3 launches but that would imply that they plan to do it at all and that’s just silly.
In before it is found to have such a hilariously low drop/generation rate that it might as well not exist.
What do you guys think about the weapons?
I think they are perfectly reasonable, doable, evenhanded changes that could breath new life into the class while the heavier workload of pet improvements is looked at. Which, of course, is why none of it will ever be implemented, unfortunately.

Just one more thing before I go to bed sorely disappointed…
You said you need to focus on “things you know you can fix”
Let me give you a short list of things I KNOW you can fix. Today. Now. That would take you 10 minutes of coding and would have a massive impact. We’ll test it for you.
• Longbow/shortbow projectile speed. You don’t need to test it. You’ve got faster projectiles in game. Increase ours so our shots actually hit moving targets in PvP. The greatsword change is appreciated… but the VAST majority of Rangers love bows and want to use bows. Side stepping against a ranger in PvP negates 50% of their longbow damage. Side step back and forth and it negates 100%. Leet strats.
• Base movement speed of pets. Increase it. 20%. Do it now. Our pets will start to actually hit moving targets. I promise this won’t break your game. They will still die ridiculously fast in WvW, but at least they might get one or two hits off instead of zero. It’ll have next to no impact in PvE. Please do it right now.
• Signet of the Hunt. Increase it to 25% movement speed. Do it now. It won’t break the game. Thieves have it now and it would mean we have an actual useful signet on our hotbar. Don’t test it. You already tested it for thieves. Just do it right now.
That’s it. Those 3 items. 10 minutes of coding. Would give us 1000% more love then what you’ve given us today.
And make us on par, even by a slight amount, with one of the two chosen classes? Madness!!! Next thing you know, you’ll be asking for spirits to be unkillable like banners. Where does it end?!
no, they hotfixed a ranger bug, this is worthy of thanks
All they did was fix a glitch that they caused and would have been easily detected before the patch ever went live if they ever actually played the Ranger class.
God, no wonder a lot of you think rangers broken, a weapon “isn’t good” according to you unless it does tons of damage, I personally did a back flip of joy because my main weapon just skyrocketed in awesome!!
Lol that is the definition of good. Sorry, the rest of us can’t kill that thief backstabbing us for 4k a hit with “awesome!!”

In the upcoming Fractals of the Mists dungeon, we’ll introduce a new monster condition called Agony.
This extremely dangerous condition ticks percentages of player health away and can’t be cleansed by normal means. Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.
Agony is a staple of the dungeon and can only be countered by ascended gear. You better hope your buddies like rez’ing you because the only thing you will be tackling is the ground.
It is countered by infusions not the ascended gear…if you were wearing all ascended with no infusions you would not have any resilience to agony…“The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”
Should get your facts strait if you are going to correct someone.
And those infusions can only be put in ascended armor. Ergo, you need ascended armor to do the new dungeon.
Try following your own advice.
“Agony is a staple of the dungeon and can only be countered by ascended gear.”
You need infusions that can only be placed in ascended armor, the armor itself means nothing without the infusions…
Haha, that’s all you have? seriously? Rather than argue my point you have to resort to arguing how I stated it? Sure I’ll concede, you don’t need ascended gear to do the dungeon. What you need is infusions. They, of course, can only be placed in ascended gear to actually have any effect what so ever. But hey, maybe you can get some Tyrian velcro and stick it to your non-pink gear. It’s worth a shot.
Most players want some form of progression, what Anet has done is add in a specific type of high end gear built around allowing for horizontal progression. A player gets ascended gear and works on getting the infusions to be able to handle the new content. The infusions(that only ascended gear can use) allows players to deal with “Agony”, a new DoT that is specific for the new content(http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion).
Hopefully 3 months from now we will have more new content and maybe a DoT called “Despair” where you will have to work on getting your ascended gear infused again to be able to delve deeper into the next new content….This is not hard logic to follow…and this system isnt a run of the mill system that anyone would expect for vertical progression…it is too unique, and it leans completely in the direction of what someone would expect out of a system built for horizontal progression.
Doomsayers can take their chances and assume that the A-net team is lying and that this system looks nothing like what would be expected out of a horizontal progression system…however, when what I have stated above ends up being the case, I hope you doomsayers ask yourselves if it was worth coming on the forums, making yourself look silly and being butthurt about an assumption?
no…no it wasnt..so please calm down…
You can hope all you want but you know as much as anyone else so please don’t act as though your completely baseless assumptions are any less likely than other peoples assumptions.
Like I said, be butthurt look silly, I actually sat down and said “Why would they make a system like this?…it is a weird way of getting to some form of vertical progression, but it actually makes sense for horizontal progression, and why would they blatantly lie about this being a form of new horizontal progression?”
The difference between you and I is I am erring on the side of logic and trusting their word, where you are assuming the worst and not even considering why this new system would be put in place.
No what you are is hoping that it won’t be as bad as all that. They haven’t given you a binding legal document vowing to not do vertical progression. You are just coming to that conclusion on your own and calling anyone who doesn’t agree with your “logic” butthurt apparently.
Gut instinct =/= logic. Logic is based on facts and established precedent. The precedent is that they are giving in to people who minmaxed and then complained about the lack of content and the fact is that they added in a whole new level of gear to combat the stagnation. If they truly cared about pure horizontal progression this could have easily been done by either creating an infusion system similar to GW1 as these sound so alike I can only assume that the Mursaat will be returning in some form. Or, they could have given us a new item slot that we could use to interchange an ever growing pool of infusions.
FACT: They have stated they are not going to do vertical progression
FACT: This new “need specific infusion to counter agony in new content” is a weird way to go about a form of vertical progression.
FACT: “Assuming” the worst in any situation and being butthurt over it is silly.
FACT: Get butthurt when you have the facts…
I love how pointing out basic facts while telling people that their ideas that the worst won’t happen is just a possible as the idea that the worst will happen means I’m flipping kitten and getting butthurt. If the simple idea of disagreeing with what you are saying equals being butthurt then I feel sorry for you.

Denying it is a gear treadmill is just plain moronic. Anet is going to have people chasing new gear every few months if they implement more infusion types. That is the definition of gear treadmill.
No, what is really moronic is the stupidity of all you fearmongering fools overreacting to something so insignificant.
*bold*This is not a gear treadmill!!bold
By definition and common sense and everything that is sain in this world this is NOT a gear treadmill!! To call it a gear treadmill is borderline insane, as it dose not even come close to resembling a gear treadmill!
This is a once off, if they had added a new tier between blue and green items no one would care, that is exactly what they have done here, add a new tier between Exotic and Legendary, something that will very important to do as this game is dying fast and loosing many players to boredom at level 80.
The disgusting overreaction from the hipster elitists of this game is deeply disturbing.
Keep up the good work Arenanet and dont let the bullys get you down!
So what you are saying is that when everyone is decked out in Pinks and dying of boredom as you say, they won’t add in another level to stave off player loss?
I cannot believe what i’m reading lol.
129 pages of QQ without even experiencing the update , it’s like nowadays it’s a hobby to grief. Not even good critisicim , just pointless whining. Then everyone jumps on the bandwagon and complains too without even knowing what update is in the first place.
Disgusting.
Save you’re wall of texts when you actually play the update through then give it a review.
Why is everyone mad anyways ?
Rare is weaker than Exotic. They just added another gear tier? where’s the big deal?
Seems like some are pretty irritated that they are “Loosing” their exotics.sigh , humans.
I now right, the nature of the update is a complete mystery and this is all supposition, pure and simple. It’s not as if this article exists https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/ , detailing exactly what we are to expect with the update and in the future. What are stat increases? I will have to play the game to fully understand the enigma placed before me.
My character got shafted in GW1 despite saving Tyria from the Titans, Sort of saving Cantha (they kind of self destructed anyway later on it seems), saved Elona, and the rest of the planet, from an evil god that I slew like a boss only to have a blind girl kill steal for all the glory, and saved the world again from the Destroyers and Primordius and didn’t even get a statue for all of it. Hell, even the glorious monument to how bad kitten he was is now a silly, forgotten ruin.
And now they did it all over again. This is Nightfall 2.0
Because pinks are the new standard and while they are a bump up in points, at least for now, you won’t be able to catch more treb shots with your face or knock down a reinforced door with your weapons all that much faster.
WvW has always been about zergs and clever siege deployment anyway.
The thing is that right now the only infusion they have hinted at is the one that protects against the agony effect. There is nothing stopping them from adding in other types that give a more general benefit to your character effectively replicating the idea of runes/gems.
“I would have won, if it wasn’t for that ranger’s pesky pet!”
“I would have finished him off if it weren’t for that kitten Lick Wounds skill!”
It also depends how the infusions work. Who’s to say infusions wont become a treadmill themselves? Though it could be used to satisfy the pro-treadmill types.
Which is exactly why I vouch for waiting for additional information, instead of relying on assumptions about the future to judge current content.
Like I said, I am skeptical as well at this point, but I’d say there is too little concrete information to condemn Anet for their decision.Believing something simply because there is nothing disproving it is still faith.
I could roll out Russell’s Teapot but this is already getting off topic and the forum mods have an itchy trigger finger.
All I am trying to say is to avoid hasty conclusions based on incomplete information and assumptions.
At this point, we do not know what the future will look like exactly for GW2 in terms of gear. we should not judge the current update negatively based on assumptions about the future.
Treat the additional tier for what it is-one additional tier. If you disagree with that, then I will respect that decision as you based your verdict on the current update. As soon as you start with the ‘but they will add even more tiers!’, I will point out the fallacy in your reasoning in an attempt to make judgment more objective.
I never took a side but thank you for assuming that I did.
All I pointed out was you have no more concrete evidence that they won’t add in more equipment levels just as the other side has no evidence that this isn’t the last we will see of it.
Your faith that this will not happen ever again is just as unsupported as their idea that it will.
It isn’t faith. There is simply no information to suggest otherwise at this point.
I am ready to adjust my opinion if ANet decides to create additional tiers after this one. When that happens, the gear treadmill will be set in motion. The idea of a treadmill is that it keeps going and going, which can’t be done by one additional tier.
At this point, I am of the opinion that the Infusion system is what prevents the ‘Gear Treadmill’ from actually starting.
Believing something simply because there is nothing disproving it is still faith.

I don’t mind this so much normally, but during events like Halloween it makes the whole thing seem less amazing than it could be. I was expecting a huge swarm at Mad King like in good old GW1 and instead it was just the 10 closest guys. If it is such a resource drain than why can I fight a dragon with craploads of people visible during a battle but not when we are just standing idle in town?
Granted my FPS drops like mad during the fight, but I feel that it should be at my personal discretion how much I want to sacrifice for character render distance. The same goes for WvW but that may be an issue with the engine itself.
indeed as dante said… putting too much trait points to BM just to make the pets survive longer ? perform better? that’s absurd, and not to mention minor & major pet traits are everywhere, you can find 2 pet major traits in skirmishing, wilderness, nature and beastmastery .. why didn’t they just put it all in BM… sigh
Because no one in Anet actually plays a Ranger and they assumed that we would just scatter points all over the place and try to do a little bit of everything like idiots instead of trying to streamline our builds like intelligent people.
The only beef I have is that they did a terrible job of deforming the armor that was clearly made for human models and then slapped on Sylvari.
Other than that, I never really had a problem with the idea of wearing regular clothing but that may be because I chose to create a character that was much more elven in appearance than plant.
In fact, I find the leaf armor to be kind of silly and out of place when I’m not in a jungle area or Caledon itself.

Just substitute any instance of the word “Elementalist” with the word “Ranger”.
Also, substitute the part where he talks about “Dragon’s Tooth” and insert “Pet”.
So much for unique Professions. Giving ranger’s some sort of stealthing ability is a bad idea. The trait hide in plain sight is bad enough. It shouldn’t even be a ranger trait in the first place. Although it does help in many situations in PvE and PvP.
But I guess thats just my opinion.
I know right?
I hear that the best way to hunt is to make yourself as visible as possible and make so much noise that your prey is completely aware of you the whole time. Being stealthy and out of site is absolutely not the way to go at all.
