Would it be interesting? Or would it be like when the only siege people knew about was vanilla and nobody had masteries?

If the DH is moving, you can just burst him from stealth and retreat out of range before he drops traps. If he then moves out of the traps, you can just burst again, repeat to fade.

Overall, the notes I posted today are something like 40k characters long.
It’s the results of my thinking about WvW over the last months and years.
I hope you’ll enjoy the read, I hope it’ll spark some (constructive) discussion and I really hope ANet will be able to gather some good feedback and ideas from it.

Anet know the problems, they just refuse to commit the brainpower and manpower to fixing them. Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loves PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

Flax Fibres Still Too Rare

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

We all know flax fibres (English spelling) aren’t common enough. Arenanet more-or-less admitted this by placing flax nodes everywhere in the new Bloodstone zone (it is August 2016).

Speaking from a WvW perspective, why would I spend 4g on a consumable upgrade that could be instantly negated? Examples: 1, 2, 3.

Thus, I propose that the Linen Supply Sack Recipe be reduced to 2 flax fibres instead of 12.

Some iffy ideas here (even more damage on rams?!), some good ideas.

  • Will all of this take more than 10 minutes of development time, though? This seems to be all they are willing to spend on WvW.
  • I don’t think MO is going to risk changing WvW because he doesn’t get it.

On your point that

If you want to defend an objective against a blob, Bring Your Own Blob!

I would mention that a lot of the time the reason a large number of defenders man arrow carts is that they lack a “Fights Commander”. In this situation you are, in fact, fighting a blob in another guise – but they haven’t got the Commander to open-field it.

Cancer² Incoming : current gw2 doesn’t need more condis.

Descriptions seems to fit necromancer’s spirit but it’s way too much focused on condis/burning/stealth/clones and… you’re basically turning necro into a mesmer.

These are Apex powers as I’ve described elsewhere:
Stealth, Target changing/losing and [waterfields+blast finishers].

I like the OP’s ideas for bringing some of these powers to the necro.

No one likes to get beaten by a keyboard turning clicking baddie just because his class is better in a 1v1 fight. NOBODY

Hatred and frustration on the forum are a clear indication of what people like and dislike about competitive games.

I concur with these thoughts, but I think GW2 is too far in the opposite direction.

There’s a heap of twitchy leetdoods who obliterate mediocre players (neither keyboard turners nor speedball popping lunatics). The proliferation of these twitchers means that PvP is not as popular as a part-time endeavour among the PvE players as I’m sure Arenanet would prefer. New PvPers can’t appreciate clever plays you are pulling off. It’s too difficult to see & understand. Hence ProLeague fail and jokes about Lols eSports.

I think the term is “inaccessible”.

Double oil damage

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

Oil is extremely strong but it’s also stationary which means it’s easy to avoid in most cases.

I think a fair change would be to make it so that you do not need to be touching the pot of oil to use it. Instead, place a lever or button inside the structure on the ground, similar to how tactivators are placed, that you can use to operate the oil from afar.

This would eliminate any risk of taking damage on the players part without making the pot of oil more difficult to kill. Oil dies fairly quickly as is if enough people are focusing it down and as I’d said, it only has a very small radius of effect. I think it would be absolutely fair to remove the risk of taking damage while using it. It’s a totally different story with things like AC’s and cannons that can hit many different places however.

Oil is one of those “oops, we forgot to take down all the siege” things that very occasionally make a difference. I wouldn’t make this a huge priority.

I like this idea, but how would you know when to operate the oil without seeing the enemy? It would require more developer time than I would be happy spent on it, especially when it takes them six months to animate handing a paper from one character to another even though there are already mail carrier animations in the game that do just that.

A tall tower in the centre of the map from which many objectives can be trebbed. Hmm…. sounds familiar.

…but seriously. Being able to treb other objectives from your foothold is really good.

I’ve suggested the idea of Towering Towers (no trademark, grab it!). This means that when an objective upgrades, it gets a taller tower to treb from, meaning that;

  1. there is a point to upgrading something
  2. once upgraded, a tower can be used as a staging post for long range attacks on nearby keeps.

Ofc, it would require considerable alteration on desert map (I’m thinking specifically of the Fire keep), especially considering that all the towers have unique designs. It may be possible to add a generic tower building to the inside of these structures, however.

GW2 PvP is about twitchy gameplay. If you can’t react and formulate a series of moves appropriate to the situation in a very short timespan, you are dead.
How to win PvP;

  • Work out a “spike damage rotation”, and learn to do that very quickly (may require binding f6-12 as the keys you need to press),
  • Then always move so that you don’t get surprised by enemies,
  • Use stealth or [water+blast] combo to reset fight if you do get surprised,
  • You will still lose a lot – remember, everbody else is doing the same.

TL;DR GW2PvP is about spike damage.

I wonder what this could mean.

  • Client/Server technical performance? I can’t see that being affected by scores…

Embrace the Polls: What Should We 'Try'?

in WvW

Posted by: Svarty.8019

Svarty.8019

I posted this elsewhere but will repeat it here;

  • Arenanet develop the ability to measure who is first, who is second and who is third (at the moment) in the match.
  • Using the “whoever is in 3rd place” metric, Arenanet could simply give that side speedy dolyaks on all camps until they are no longer in 3rd place (then whoever is 3rd place gets it).
  • This could help because even a giant blob struggles to hold all the camps at a time.
Having their objectives upgrade faster would be great for weaker sides. If they had Siegeraiser as well, this could really help them get a foothold. Further bonuses may be needed to get them back into the fight.
  • The danger is that huge servers feel they have to continually beat down on the weak side to stop them getting T3 stuff everywhere, and eventually give up trying because it’s “inevitable”, and the 3rd place side may feel that they don’t have to try – the automated system will keep them close to the 2nd place side.
