Cooldowns Review

You might have to explain what abilities/weapons you think are unused or what numerical adjustments you’d like to see.

That’s fair enough. I will give some examples.

  1. On-hit Sigils – with a big internal cooldown, it seems pointless having on-hit instead of on-crit (unless your crit chance is super low).
  2. Strength (lowest cooldown on the on-crit sigils) is meta in many builds atm. I think it’s largely to do with the icd.
    https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil#Chance_on_critical_hit

Sigil of Strength is used because its better than the others. Its the only sigil in that category that will affect all of your attacks for the next 10 seconds. The other sigils either have a single attack, give the other player a condition, or give you a less useful boon than Might. This is the only sigil that will affect all of your attacks, that is why its used, not because of the ICD.

If the ICD were 5s it would not be used.

Here’s another one: Rune of the Lich. Look at that cooldown: 60s for a jagged horror.

The game is full of this nonsense, and imo could really do with a review to both refresh and vary things a bit.

I do agree that getting near a tower with multiple people on AC’s is obnoxious, I just feel that in my many hours of WvW, it’s uncommon for said AC’s to live longer than 60seconds thanks to Meteor Shower doing like 9k a hit and Temporal Curtain pulling people right over and off the walls.

It goes both ways. Sometimes a zerg doesn’t have the people to do this. Often we have no mesmer and eles who don’t (for whatever reason) attack the carts.

I don’t know. I think there’s a critical mass where siege instantly vanishes.

People in my guild had a lot of strange situations lately in wvw. For some people textures like keep walls are just not there, so they can basically walk into a keep. It does not happen every time and on every wall. The strange thing is for whatever reason the problem goes away and then reappears out of a sudden. Maybe the guy in the screenshot suffers from something like that also. I have never seen something like that before and i am playing since release. For me it seem that the last “performance” patch regarding the walls in wvw did seriously break something.

Yep. See red post here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Walls-Update/first

It is not like the items they give are amazing or anything. More often then not its fine/masterwork stuff we salvage.

It’s possible to get precursors from them.

But I agree, this is an unnecessary block.

No, it doesn’t really work. The mostly damage meta has been bad for the game and the skills and balance team know it too.

I’d suggest listening to the first few minutes of Irenio talking about profession stuff.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K2ZHhJQn0B8

The devs know the way they created professions has led to an unhealthy state and HoT stuff was a first step to make improvements, but they know there is a long way to go.

The proliferation of crowd control has lead to boring immob-to-death crap that is remeniscent of DAoC’s shameful minute-long AoE stun/mez. Follow that up with massive damage spike because when you stun someone you don’t need any defense. Combine that with confusing clone/stealth target removers and is it any wonder new people hate competitive modes?

In that video, Irenio talks the good talk but HoT has just made CC godlike and damage spikes even worse.

Instead of basing it off the servers place they should give benefits when you have the outnumbered buff.

The benefits should be things that encourage small groups to go out and try things on their own instead of logging off because there isn’t a blob running.

A few examples of what I’m talking about are:
When outnumbered you can pick up an extra 5 supply, so if you are running on an enemy bl and claim a camp you can grab 25 supply.

When outnumbered you will not be marked by sentries, watch towers or when a keep flips.

When outnumbered it takes twice as long to trigger white swords.

Not only does this promote small group play, it forces the blob to split up or risk losing everything.

All good suggestions

Indeed, these are good suggestions, but they rely on the unreliable outnumbered buff.

  • I have been told by players (nobody in authority) that only one side can be Outnumbered.
  • It has also been suggested that people would manipulate their map population in order to gain Outnumbered if there was anything decent attached to it. I’m not sure how true/feasible this would be.
  • If a side were trying to manipulate the Outnumbered buff, it is possible that this could lead to arguments within their community if they were to lose it.

I would also like to suggest that if we use the “whoever is in 3rd place” metric, we could simply give that side speedy dolyaks on all camps until they are no longer in 3rd place (then whoever is 3rd place gets it).

  • This should help because even a giant blob struggles to hold all the camps at a time.
  • Having their objectives upgrade faster would be great for weaker sides.
  • If they had Siegeraiser as well, this could really help them get a foothold.
  • Further bonuses may be needed to get them back into the fight.

The game is good, it’s just the combat system that’s poor.

If what you mean is dps with survivability in general, warrior and reaper are the classes that come to my mind.

These can do a little tanking in PvE, but they aren’t proper tanks in the classical sense. They can’t hold aggro and can’t defend anybody should they lose aggro.

Btw, whoever told you to go staff guardian was probably trolling you.

I still wish they would double the thickness of walls, personally. Not increase the health or the height, just widen them so it’s more difficult for AOE’s to cover the entire walls. You would still be able to kill AC’s and such on the walls it would just a) be more difficult and b) probably require counter siege like an open field AC or Ballista. But at least it would allow for defenders to stand on the walls without immediately getting blown up or pulled off.

You make important caveats there – it’s important to be able to (if difficult) counter the ACs. This being said, the bigger a group is, the more chance an ele gets a good/lucky shot on a meteor shower (my point is that we shouldn’t expect to win against such enormous groups with just a handful of defenders).

I made an upgrade post ages ago that suggested walls become taller as an objective upgrades – meaning that trebs will be able to reach further and making walls easier to defend.

New to GW2 - My thoughts so far

World vs World:
I haven’t done much of it, because it appears largely unrewarding and it’s not my endgame. It’s also a frustrating and confusing zergfest of following around the commander tag and avoiding fullscale combat at all costs. Whenever I got into a 1v1 or similar small scale skirmish, a thief would pop out of invissiblity oneshot me and then bow-dash to africa before I could even blink. I’m in full berserker gear and I SINCERELY HOPE that’s the reason I’m getting instakilled with no chance of defending myself.

That’s not an unreasonable assessment.
There is a lot of avoiding combat, but when the zerg vs zerg happens it is glorious and rewarding. Also, if you’re not on your community’s voice chat (teamspeak or whatever), the experience is massively diminished.
Regarding your 1v1 experience, that is absolutely typical. Thieves or such super-twitchy-pro-apex classes in PvP specs completely obliterate regular WvW players, even if we do tend to run tankier gear than berserker. You had no chance to defend yourself because that’s what Jon Peters, Roy Chronacher and Karl McLain think is fun. Welcome to eSports.

I think this is a legacy from a period during development when Arenanet didn’t want their game to be about staring at boons and conditions. Instead they wanted players to be able to identify boons/condis people had by looking at the playing area of the screen.

Sadly, they abandoned this at some point and adopted WoW-style buff (boon) and debuff (condition) bars.

Guild Wars 3?

The reason they abandoned Guild Wars to make Guild Wars 2 was because Guild Wars was a lobby game with instanced maps and they wanted to make a full fledged mmo. Unless they decide that they want to make something besides an mmo then I dont see them making Guild Wars 3.

I have no idea why people ask for GW3. It would mean years of little or no content for GW2 while they make it and you’d have to abandon an account and characters you spent years working on.

The “content” we get at the moment seems to be too much about new systems piled upon systems. Instead of fixing existing systems, we get more and more new ones. There is new content along with these, but it irks me that development resources are wasted with flavour-of-the-month novelty projects instead of making the existing game better by efficiently re-using old systems with the new lore and using the development time to perfect the existing systems.

The walls in WvW have been updated to improve performance.

Someone on my server mentioned that this probably involved reducing the complexity of the geometry.

  • It seems that this has resulted in a few glitches where players can get stuck in walls or pass through some walls.
  • Wildcreek on EB has an undocumented change. The destructible wall on Rogue’s Quarry side of the tower is now indestructible, but the opposite wall is now destructible instead. I believe this has been done by mistake (hence no documentation). IMHO this is a change for the better and should be repeated at Langor (which has a vulnerable wall which is extremely difficult to defend).

…Sure, some people will say that you only lose when you die, but if you are forced to tuck your tail and disengage completely (go ooc) it’s a loss in my book.

Thieves have one ability over all other classes, Mobility. As a thief you have no idea how many people have whispered me hateful things about resetting fights. “Stealth is a crutch, you go ooc you lose, try fighting me fair”, etc etc. It’s almost irrelevant to them that you killed them after the third opener. That’s the goal when I play thief, to kill you on the second or third opener. You guys see it as a quick and dirty 30 second slug fest, I play it as a 2 minute dissection of your skills and cooldowns. Also I don’t play condi, I play generic power d/p d/d.

The basic idea of thief, that few seem to accept, is that its entire design is based around it being a mobile, stealthy, killer. It will and should be able to assassinate enemies who are alone, wandering the wilderness. What you guys are doing by complaining about these things is slowly homogenizing the game. If your a slow, bulky, whatever class/build that gets ganked by thieves, probably don’t go out alone. We can either have an asymmetrical unbalanced game about fun and flavor and different classes, or we can have WoW.

You’re 100% wrong about stealth. It’s a huge crutch in more ways than one.
The first is obviously that your opponent can no longer see you, but the second is that your victim loses target.

Frankly, I believe Karl McLain has a lot of explaining to do. This isn’t fun for your victim at all.

Thief is the weakest class for any scale battle that involves an equal amount of participants from both sides. If a thief wins a duel it either means that his skill is miles above the other player or the other player did not have a proper 1v1 build and the thief had.

PvPers in WvW. A farmfest until the zerg arrives to save us all.

The safety of the zerg will save us from gankers!

WvW Ruins - Potential for more

I thought it was a mini arena:

  • There’s space round the outside to watch (one is even arena shaped with tiered seating),
  • The opponents have to stay in the square (small area like a fixed arena),
  • and if you get bored you can build temporary siege (although I’ve not seen this actually used).

Oh and if you stand in three for long enough it helps the BL teams (strategic value).

I think the potential is there, we just don’t use them fully as players.

  1. They are full of gankers, who would go there without a zerg?
  2. So nobody goes there and
  3. the gankers move on,
  4. the ruins are deserted.

Teh Logics.

Obviously, some people will not agree with this post. If that’s you, please think about saving both of us time and don’t reply at all.

How self-entitled are you that you think you deserve to be able to make a thread and have no one disagree with you?

Can we please stay on the topic of catapults?

I love when my character discovers 3 empyreal fragments and says “now that’s a find!”

Is it, commander? Is it a find?
/facepalm

  • Arenanet develop the ability to measure who is first, who is second and who is third (at the moment) in the match.

Requires too much complicated math, sorry.

You know what? You’re probably right!

Supply isn’t really the problem when doing 50v5 keep defense

Supply isn’t the only option, but it is a logical start point. It’s possible that other bonuses could be added to the third place side.

… and to be frank 50 should really win vs 5 anyway.
