There are lots of rewards and things that HoT players have access to that non HoT owners don’t. You are really over embellishing things.

Not in the dailies.

I buy gems for gold and bought a legendary, is that unfair or “harming” someone else?

Don’t get me started on how un-Legendary a Legendary actually is.

I can level up a character to 80 in a couple hours and have full ascended gear on them, is that going to “harm” someone else?

I can buy any weapon skin off the bltc, will that “harm” another player?

I can glide by all the players who didn’t buy HoT, is that “harming” them?

Honestly, I don’t feel bad for players who are unwilling to buy an expansion then complain that they don’t get something out of it or complain that other players have access to things they paid for.

I’m sorry, but your arguments aren’t valid.

The topic was about adding HOT to the dailies in some manner. Everyone can do the dailies, but not everyone can play HOT. The dailies are about earning 10 achievement points and obtaining sundry rewards. If you can’t see that giving HOT owners more ways to get those gives them an advantage over non HOT owners then I really can’t help you.

Im fully aware, I’m the one who made this topic. I suggested to add hot dailies to the current daily list.

Your augment is invalid and doesn’t make any sense.

Players can buy the expansion if they want. If the don’t want to buy HoT, then they don’t get stuff from HoT.

Not everyone bought HOT. Adding it to the dailies would disadvantage some of the player base.

By your logic, adding gliding in core Tyria should never be done because it would “disadvantage” some of the player base, so obviously they would never do that…..oh wait.

By my logic adding HOT to the dailies will see players who bought it being able to receive more rewards from the dailies than those who didn’t. Irrespective of achievement points it would be turning the dailies into something that could alienate part of the player base.

Also, this “disadvantaged player base” sure is going to feel glum when Living story 3 comes around and is locked to them as an expansion only series of events.

Your knowledge of Living Story 3 exceeds mine, I had no definite understanding that non HOT players were going to be locked out of it.

Basically, I agree completely with the OP, adding this would be great and does no harm to anyone else.

Pets, Why they so slow???

Pets are terribly slow. Any enemy with swiftness will be untouchable even for the HoT pets.
You try it with the smokescale and between smoke assaults will not be able to hit anything with +33% speed.
Not even traited with BM . Without it it won’t be able to hit any moving target with +25% (so everybody).

My pet can’t keep up with my druid. And that should say it all.

This is a joke. My pet should be able to hit enemies reliably (even with swiftness) when at least i treated it with BM , without the need to use one skill from the LB to be sure i can apply swiftness to it.

All “pets” (ranger pets, necro minions and mesmer clones) in this game were designed poorly. They are the lowest quality I’ve seen in a game.

At least necro has a choice, though.

This isn’t even a CC heavy game lol, most CC is so short it’s not even an issue its just for interrupts, decals and stopping a res or stomp. Most other games give you a cc break on a 2 min cd lol, we have stability which eats a cc per stack and it’s pretty easy to get into your build somehow or from a team mate.

The “omg so much cc” is hyperbole at best.

The issue is that CC effects are short duration yet they can be continuously used over and over. There are many situations where you can cleanse or use stability, but then a few seconds later you are hit by these effects again.

Also, professions and weapon and skill and trait designs were made for pve in mind. You have to look at the bigger pictures.

I do look at the big picture, and I’ve got a few games under my belt to know that CC isn’t really an issue. Whilst CC is rather plentiful, a lot of it is soft CC and stability is t exactly hard to find in 90% of builds and use it at the right time. The game is about capturing points, i.e knocking people off those points to capture it. It’s a required mechanic and works pretty well. There’s more then just stability, blind, block, aegis, dodge roll etc to avoid cc effects.

Every build should have a stability source (except thief I think), a condi cleanse and a stun break. That’s the trade off each player has to make to fit those into the build.

I have two decades and hundreds of games under mine so I’m pretty well versed.

The issues is that all control effects and conditions are unending in combat. Nothing of what I suggested completely takes them away, just makes them more manageable in pvp combat. Direct impact damage output is still there and perhaps increased in some cases, DoT damage is slightly lessened and side effects from CC skills become a bit more reasonable.

Your bolded part… Spvp is not the only pvp mode. There is rvr here. Mass combat with multiple players attacking and tossing damage plus DoT plus control effects plus condition effects at once… Also, there are some builds that can just continuously layer conditions to a silly degree.

There has to be a balance. You can’t have “stunlock” like in other games and you can’t have players always just be plagued with effects over and over like here. I appreciate that the devs did not go the “stunlock” route for an individual character to be able to do, but that does happen in ways, along with unending cc effects, outside of 1v1 all the time.

The competitive side of the game is poor because profession designs are subpar. Also, continued profession development and balancing is poor. The original vision of professions, and certain combat designs, are not working well and lots of things need to be reevaluated if gw2 hopes to improve the game overall.

Professions need a revamp to define roles better. HP need adjusting for the high damage meta. Many weapon skills need rework to be more competitive with other weapons. Traits are a completely jumbled mess. The CC system needs a review. Stealth needs a to be handled differently because it should not be used mid combat, particularly with the poor counter stealth in the game. Thief needs to be studier outside of the stealth mechanics… Each profession needs to be looked at for changes and additions… Lots of things on the list to make the game better.

Also, there are enough movement imairment CC skills in the game and the combat movement suppression is awful. It kills the freedom of movement that the game was built on.

Immunity timers.

In pve the Control and Condition systems are more manageable. In pvp (wvw and spvp), though, they have been poorly implemented because our characters are continuously hit with CC effects.

What I’m proposing below is to NOT give immunity to the damage component from weapons and skills that produce CC, I’m saying that the status effects need to be more manageable for players in pvp in this CC heavy game.

The general idea for CC effects in pvp environments…

“Every time a character recovers from a Hold, Immobilize, Disorient, Sleep, or Fear status, that character becomes immune to all five of those effects from other players for 15 seconds. Every time a character suffers a Knockdown, Knockback, or Knockup effect, that character becomes immune to all three of those effects from other players for 10 seconds. These two timers are independent. It should be noted that Confuse effects, while technically mezzes, are on a separate 15-second timer than the other mezzes listed above.”

So let’s tailor the above quote for GW2… the basic gist is that a character goes on an immunity timer to all “hard” Control effects after the effect ends or the player uses a Stun Breaker. Moa should go into this “hard” Control category as well.

For “soft” Conditions there are two ways to do it… First is an immunity timer on a 1 cleanse-1 condition basis, or an immunity timer to groups of “soft” Conditions. Some grouping examples below…

Group 1… Blind, confusion, vulnerability and weakness.

Group 2… Chilled, crippled, immobilize and slow.

Group 3… Bleeding, burning, poison and torment.

And again, the main damage components from weapons and skills that produce these Control and Condition effects remain unchanged.

Doing it these ways allows for multiple CC skills to still be used, but it allows for some breathing room from these effects. All “hard” CC is either put on a timer naturally when ended or when manually broken. Individual or group “soft” CC are put on a timer once actively cleansed by the player or another player. Visual indicators can be assigned to the UI so both player(s) and attacker(s) know what immunity timers are in effect.

There are other factors that we can look at too like initial weapon and skill damages and their cool downs, adding an initial damage component to certain CC skills so they are still viable to use, CC durations, reevaluate CC removal skills… but this would be the core way CC functions in pvp and the rest can be looked at and modified.

They did not add gliding yet because of “play for free” players. It’s going to happen sooner or later because you can’t treat your paying players like this.

Personally I don’t care if someone is at a disadvantage, they can play the ground troops while the rest of us who support the game glide around the maps.

So, going for the MOBA model could open up a new opportunities to get players from other successful multiplayer online platform.

Just had the crash after defeating MoM and wasnt able to pick up the chest.. Reconnected to a dead server with no chest.. the squad was still there but couldnt join back in theyr instance.. lost 2 hours for this and no compensation was granted.. iam really frustrated, not fun in playing a game where you grind like a sick person and then dont get anything back
And yes Guild wars 2 is a grind fest

That happened about 3-4 times for me. I don’t even do the meta there for the meta, I just get my hero points on characters and that’s it.

Hello all, This is my first post because this is something that i feel so strongly about.
So a little background. IoJ has been steadily dropping for the last 6 months, hit rock bottom then raised up to tier 6. Then HoT came out and we lost a lot of guilds. We hit rock bottom again. Ive been working my kitten of posting events & trying to get guilds rallying, getting our facebook up our twitter, our webpages, everything, & its working. We have been growing numbers every week since HoT came out. Weve been holding steady in Tier 7 & we are happy with it. We understand these tiers lack coverage & lack population but we have a lot of people that really care about this server & we just want to have fun. To do that we need even matches or even “slightly” uneven matches. We call the outnumbered buff the IoJ buff cause weve had it for so long its normal, its part of the every day game experience. So T7 is SoR, IoJ & BP……that is a good match up…..we still get our kitten kicked but its good fights & we arent complaining. All of our servers have a good dedicated base & we understand that we need to go the extra mile in these hard times to rebound.Then we get paired with IoJ SOr & FC…Fc still way outnumbers both of us but still we can deal with it. good fights good fun. And now we are pair with Kaineng. Kaineng just won T6 & u you drop them to T7. Now neither of ur servers have a chance. You put a rank 16 against a rank 21 and 20. Add on top of the fact that they outnumber us 2 to 1 in every BL and EB but they use turtle and dragon banners too. In one failed swoop you have ruined both of our servers rebound. All the people we started getting back just quit WvW. We are trying to give everything we have to correct anets mistakes, building up the community getting more people involved & anet just continues to poop in our faces( yeah i said it). This isnt the only instance. This is a complete break down of the matches. At no point should someone 5 ranks above or below u be fighting you. We are trying our hardest to keep WvW relevant & you are throwing every thing u have against us. I havent been around for as long as most of u and im sure its been happening for awhile but i dont think u understandd what it does to a server. So IoJ is throwing this match. We are exausted we dont have the numbers and our will is dwindleing. So this Week IoJ will not be participating in WvW. Quit putting this off….this need corrected now….how many posts do we have to make for you to understand the urgency. The fact is that this has been my favorite game for 3 years & i hate seeing what has been happening to it. So Please Anet…..DO SOMETHING!

WvW is a mess and all tiers are suffering differently. We are all in the same boat.

Anet is doing something (very very slowly) to address all this stuff and population imbalances.

Lets be honest, WvW is far from dead. It is dead in the sense of the people who first played it and have now moved on, it is dead in the sense of a natural ebb and flow of an MMO, but the game mode is still strong and healthy. The Desert BL’s are starting to get some action now that people are starting to learn them and the fights are quite good. IMO the ability to build waypoints like the old maps would go a long way into improving this.

Just continually shouting “WvW ded gaem” doesn’t change the fact that many people still play and enjoy it. The fight-centric meta is gone (for now) and WvW has become, what it was always intended to be, a game of chess that anyone can join.

Sure the long time *players stack EBG because its is safe and familiar and they get the fights they want but the score is not affected by that. The score has always been the providence of the Borderlands. Like it or not, you have to adapt or be left behind.

Just my own opinion.

You have zero idea what makes a good rvr game…

Most remaining players are in EB because there are fights…

The new bl is atrocious and not conducive to a good pvp expirience. BL maps do nothing except discourage fights, and that’s the opposite purpose of pvp…

Players killing players is the spirit of pvp or don’t you know that?

Each map has a score that counts to the total, but nobody cares about points anymore. PPK is a thing btw…

Even tier 1 is at 1/10th of what it use to be… yeah, the wvw game is dead sorry, and will be a complete ghost town if anet doesn’t perform miracles.

The only people that have to “adapt or get left behind” are the devs… GW2 will have competition in the future where there will be an entire game built around pvp… 500+ person mass battles, unique classes and actual roles, rvr dungeons and underworld, all structures will be player created, better stealth mechanics too… The entire game will be a true pvpers paradise…

Don’t worry, though, when anet flubs again you can have all the wvw maps to play door bash and seige chess against your friends. Maybe players will host dueling tournaments in smc too…

Combat Slow

What is the purpose behind this mechanic? I have found pretty much no reason, other than to create frustration for the player. We have Cripple, Immobilize, Stun, Chill, and other movement impaired mechanics that easily provide that combat slow that is plenty as is.

So why this mechanic?

Combat movement suppression is outdated. This game is very cc heavy and it’s completely unnecessary to have this artificial slowing mechanic.

Thanks, Guys! Putting it all together, I think I will level crafting a bit later in the game when I have more gold to waste, have accumulated mats and while it might still offer XP.

Download overwolf and find the crafting app. It will help you level up crafting and will save you a lot of time and gold.

The completion of hero challenges has always been a requirement prior to HoT, assuming you wanted to unlock your skills as you leveled. It wasn’t until they made the mistake of making tomes and scrolls too easy to acquire that you could suddenly skip through the leveling process. HoT is simply a return to the way it was originally, with the only difference being you don’t get a portion of your skills unlocked through leveling alone and you no longer get an extra point for leveling at 80.

There are 40 challenges in HoT and you only need 20. The only mistake was making them both timed and group challenges. They will get nerfed eventually however.

It wasn’t a mistake, it was smart marketing because players buy gems and gold and spend gold on max level characters. Besides, you could always craft to 80 anyway.

Smart move for veterans too who don’t want to do the grind again.

3 full servers of wvw guilds in the top tier is hardly “small” further, because of the neglect ….10 x that amount left. PvP’rs are by far the biggest community in any respectable game…the pve community is the small one …it only seems bigger here because the ‘extreme’ pve chased the pvprs away.

In fact, PVP is TRUE end game – it’s where legendary pve’rs go to fight the ultimate opponent. – no one wants to play the same routine game vs the same monsters thousands of time for years and years, thats just the training area for pvp.

Sorry, but pvpers are a minority in every game that offers both pve and pvp.

The “extreme” pve didn’t chase pvpers away, poor professions and lack of roles and turtle slow development did.

PvP is only one part of endgame in a multiple mode game.

Pveers didn’t convince anet of anything, anet did what it wanted to do.

I don’t think this is a good idea … you want full maps for the duration of the meta. Unless the daily is “Complete the meta event”, it will be problematic.

And what would prevent those people from participating in the meta? It’s not like doing dailies takes a lot of time.

To add to Astralporing’s excellent responses, I want to add to this point: why the assumption that all players in a map are already participating in a meta? There is always some proportion of players in any map who are farming, standing around for a raid, looking for mastery points, map completing.

I really don’t get the flood of negativity to this. Every day I see the three (sometimes four) tabs: PVE, PVP, WvW. And I only do the PVE dailies.

Am I forced to do PVP/WvW? No.
Do I feel disadvantaged? No.
Do I feel discriminated against because I’m crap at pvp? No.
Will it stop me from going to core Tyria? No. I’ll just have more PVE dailies to do, which is something I enjoy.

The HOT maps can be punishing. Why not have an additional incentive to visit them? With all the fuss over this you’d think the OP was suggesting that we should have mounts and that there should be dailies involving riding those mounts.

Anet already said the ROI on the esports investments has been huge. So you’re just wrong.

That’s just pr talk, and I can remember Colin being slightly defensive.

If they were serious about the competitive side then they would be less defensive and get back into the pits to fix professions, fix up many weapons and skills and traits, develop actual roles and create better maps with different game modes.

Game went “play for free” and conversion to “buy to play” was poor. The xpac was the only saving grace. Spvp earnings are a drop in the bucket and nothing notable was mentioned in the conference call.

Popularity for this game is low, it will never be better than it is today. Other pvp game options are on the horizon and anet is way too slow with development to keep interest in their game. This is a pve game with pve professions, and will not garner any real respect from most pvp minded players.

Pretending something is good won’t make it good.

Are you serious or kidding? ? No mater what anet does, we only see 5 classes used per game dude. So class poyential/traits/skills has nothing to do with what people would rather run. It all comes down to preference/ synergy.

And how do you know it’s not Anet priority?? Do you work them or have you been breached about something we aren’t supposed to know?? Finally, what do you think the patches are about?

I’d say that after three years of sparse balance patching and continued power creep it should be pretty obvious that balance isn’t a top priority. Also the fact that they don’t have a dedicated balance team on staff.

Add to that bugs being in the game since launch unaddressed, skills that have never seen serious use, weapons and traits in desperate need of rework and nothign being done about it.

And this is exactly what happens when ongoing profession and “role” development is mostly ignored.

Players have been begging from beta for the devs to seriously work on professions, weapons, skills, traits, roles, certain combat mechanics… but it’s not a priority.

GW2 could be the top fantasy game for classes and combat, but that will never happen. I’ve never seen such potential wasted.

I have not seen 1 healing focused Druid in wvw or pve or fractals. I bet there are not healing focused Druids in spvp. The only place healing is used is raids because everyone stands still bashing a boss. This is a poor design.

Any druid is going to be able to heal. The thing is, there isn’t a need for a healing ONLY druid. You can bring very strong heals while buffing your party’s damage output big time, and doing alot of damage (power or condi, your choice) at the same time. So why overheal, when you can heal enough and do so much more?

You mean gated and part time healer using aim reticles for moving targets except for when players are stationary at bosses… There is a competitive side to the game that doesn’t stand still, so that’s where Druid falls apart.

I want to play the Druid healer we were promised at twitchcon that can sustain a zerg in wvw, not the raid boss healer. I want a Druid healer that functions well and fluid in this movement heavy game.

Elementalist is a better healer, but the healing mechanics in gw2 are poor overall.

If you think Druid healing and buffing and damage wrapped up into one is that good, by all means go to wvw and spvp and record your stream so we can see how well it does supporting the team.

All dailies include bonuses of some sort, so “adding” them also disadvantages people who haven’t bought HoT, in addition to help those who own it.


I think before we consider modifying the current dailies, it’s important to ask what they do for the game and community. As currently set up:

  • Easy access to AP for those who play every day.
  • Minor rewards that add up over time.
  • Minor incentive to player to try out different modes.
  • Minor incentive for veterans to revisit non-max zones.
  • Minor incentive for HoT owners to return to central Tyria.

In ANet’s shoes, I’d probably continue with the status quo, feeling that the benefit to HoT owners is insufficient to losing the last two incentives, however minor they might be to some of us.

“Disadvantaged”… They can’t enter the zones or access elites or have access to gliding… There is zero “disadvantage” to not having access to a few dailies added…

Nobody is losing anything and nothing bad will happen to the game. You’re overthinking this.

Click on daily.

Look at list of dailies… Core Tyria. WvW. Spvp.

Add some daily achievements from HoT zones to these.

I’m not talking about taking away dailies from other areas. I’m talking about adding to the list of dailies.

Looking at the mastery tracks and how slim points are given, this system needs to be reevaluated.

Point gain is awfully slow and forces players to spend hours of doing not fun activities. There should be way more mastery points tied to various achievements. Remove the individual mastery line xp requirement and make one master mastery xp bar that gives a mastery point when filled. We don’t need a double gated system (xp plus mastery points), gating by mastery points alone is enough.

Also, players wasted 24 mastery points to unlock fighting 3 zone champions because the “chest” loot is the same stuff as any other “chest” loot in these zones.

I could also see a standard amount of mastery points required to unlock each line.

Yes, I’ve got a number of improvements/fixes for Spirit Vale that will be coming out with the next raid wing, and this is one of them. You’ll also be able to infuse the rings and backpack, and extra raid miniatures will no longer clutter up your bags.

It’s nice that raid rewards are being improved, what about wvw? Wouldn’t it be nice to players if ascended were available for badges of honor? How great would players feel if those mistforged weapons were available after close to 2 years? WvW minis? WvW aura infusions?

Yeah sure, asking the raid developers about wvw seems like a good way to get answer.

Developers serve many roles and functions, and have direct access to people working on all parts of the game.

I couldn’t agree more with OP.

Two other suggestions:
- If you make elite specs available to everyone… please bring the elite specs back in line with core specs… this is really just boring, everyone runs elite specs because they’re overpowered, no variety or diversity.
- Detach the weapons and utility skills from the trait lines. Binding them together was a really bad idea, because now you are forced into a trait line to equip a certain weapon, puts too many limits on gameplay.

Edit: maybe it should just be a small purchase, say 15-20 euros for the standalone PvP game, so the devs can get some revenue from that (I wouldn’t mind)?

Elite specs were designed for HoT in mind, not core Tyria like the rest of professions.

Detaching is good, that I’ll agree with.

The devs won’t make money off of it, sorry.

This thread is not about balanced but to offer a business model for sPVP that will compete in the right market.

I agree that the solution can help to alleviate the balance problem between CORE (f2p) and ELITE (b2p hot), but please keep this thread on subject.

If you have more information, comments or opinions about having the Heart of The mist game in a stand alone Esport/MOBA versions please do. For all others, please +1 OP post.

You can’t have this gw2 stand alone mmo esports business model with these subpar professions and quasi roles.

You can’t have this gw2 stand alone mmo esports with stronghold and capture the circle as the only game modes.

Ncsoft and anet are not going to create a whole new business model just for spvp and throw development and money at it just to separate it from the rest of the game.

Ncsoft and arenanet are not going to produce a whole new stand alone game for spvp. They want players buying and playing the game. They want to convert all “play for free” players because the conversion rates are terrible now as stated in the ncsoft conference call.

Y’all are acting like professions and certain combat elements are anywhere near good enough for this. As is, this game is doing extremely poor on the pvp (spvp and wvw) fronts and participation is at an all time low. I could see if professions were even average and there was great interest in the pvp side of things, but you have to be realistic.

It’s called first things first.

+1 they went over the line with elite dpecs. They are never an alternative but a must have

Core professions were build with core Tyria in mind.

HoT elites were built with HoT and (failed attempt at ) at roles in mind.

Core profession have been neglected and there was advice since beta that was ignored and still is ignored.

Simple answer here is that core professions need to be improved and multiple roles inside each profession need to be better imagined and defined.

The raid is awful and boring and a low quality budget design. Those legendary armors look good too…

The massive gaming world is not stupid. Many of us have played a thousand games since we were kids. Many of us can identify low quality and low investment elements to games.

The raid boss mechanics are based off of subpar profession and subpar power designs, and the devs are trying to squeeze out “roles” from convoluted and mashed up classes.

Toughness to tank is a cheap design. Healing “roles” are a cheap design and some of the worst I’ve expirienced. Not having difficulty settings to instanced content is a cheap design. Not having build savers in the game is a cheap design. Not even having a lfg section is a cheap design…

The devs unwillingness to blow up and redo professions ultimately hurts game modes like wvw, spvp and raids, but it seems they do not care about the number 1 factor of this game.

Also, the devs are trying to add in some type of story and lore to build immersion, yet they created raids to where you are sucked out of that immersive expirience by having to wait an hour to get a group together, memorize the changing boss gimmick every 30 seconds, force players to build their characters how the devs want and not how players want and to get on team speak and listen to random voices blabbering out commands… All this immersion breaking stuff and waiting and mess, instead of having fun, being inclusive and building a really strong raiding community.

I use to play a game where I could play what character and role I wanted, there was zero waiting to form a team, difficulty settings were there to challenge all types of skill levels and I was immersed into the expirience through my character and didn’t have to listen to yakking in my ear.

Professions and the raid are poor quality. Such a shame because GW2 has some good combat mechanics like freedom of movement, good responsiveness with powers and a general “smoothness” to gameplay. This game could have been one of the top fantasy games, but they dropped the ball.
