No, do not want them right now. No offense but the WvW crowd apparently hates change and 3 years of Alpine was enough, I love the change and have had great fights in the new borderlands but the only problem with them is the fact that more people would rather avoid them than try and learn them, moving around the new maps is not bad once you’ve learned your way around a little.

Not for all of us that have huge lags on the new maps(and I dont have any lag on EB)

You do realize the maps are coming back right?

Pretty sure they will make a “snow” map and revamp alpine and EB some, then bring them all back together. So 3 individual unique maps and EB…

The rng concept is wearing thin. There is only so much time and devotion to obtain certain things players will face under rng circumstances. Also, looking at the tp for the lucky lotto winner selling the item for 7k-10k gold at 2x and 3x the value of legendaries is really over the top, so here is my suggestion for this item…

50 Chak eggs + 5000 Ley line crystals + 100 gold… Make it account bound.

I think that is more than fair and reasonable.

TD meta issues

Lately I have been doing the TD meta event frequently, and I have noticed that the objectives bar for things like smashing eggs, and the other objectives for each lane, do not fill up properly at times while players are doing them.

There are also times where you can do things like start smashing eggs but the counter doesn’t move at all right away.

There is some kind of weird delay to these bars filling up and the counters seem way off.

Please look into this because players are working within timers, and progress at times does not match participation. I do not know if it is lag that causes these event objective behaviors, but please reevaluate these objectives and their credit counters.

Something IS off and not adding up in an accurate way consistently for these objectives.

Some of you are not taking into account that “population balance” is on the radar.

PPK should mean something because it’s the main spirit of wvw.

1 kill 1 point. It’s fine and appropriate.

Kill trading when populations are equal is not going to be an issue on some massive game breaking scale like some assume. The devs can also implement timer measures on kills and they can track kill trading with alerts…

Right now nothing matters given the state of wvw and population disparities and mess. The devs are just dropping stuff in to do stuff that goes along with the"secret" plan.

Points don’t matter at all right now, just play or don’t play. Worry about points after the update and after tournaments come back…

And overall, WvW needs less pve and more pvp…

PPK credit promotes players fighting + personal rewards and incentives to fight and win + guild rewards and incentives by fighting and winning… These things encourage combat more often than not… Along with good professions and combat, these are the core elements to a healthy players vs other players experience…

Fighting to win and get rewarded for doing so is the spirit of wvw/rvr/pvp… Those were the lager points I was making.

Open world stuff and other stuff like gliding is okay. General changes to PvP are awesome, removal of Celestial etc. really helped, Unranked is a bit clusterfu..hm.. due to all sorts of people queueing and being matched together, but it’s temporary.

Now, about profession balance.

It is really a strict Balance Hotfix for the most professions and builds and I think people expected more than that.
When some got couple good changes, fixes, reworks to underpowered/outdated stuff like Ranger, Thief or Necromancer, some professions got absolutely nothing, round 0 (Revenant) that would update underused abilities/traits.

It is just rather dissapointing for many, as this was 3 months of waiting and posting good feedback and now it kinda feels like wasted time. And looking at this update, I can’t say for sure than next will be better.

Now, more than ever, Profession Forum Specialists are needed. It looks like many changes could’ve been better if ArenaNet had better ways of gathering feedback.

Around the launch of HoT and during Betas there was a fun period when certain Devs would often contact community on profession forums and actually do visible things based on feedback they got. I understand that many of them have moved on to different projects etc., but little update from Dev/Balance Team every now and then (monthly?) on what they plan to do with each profession and maybe asking for some feedback (this doesn’t even have to be major things, just to let people know there’s any connection) would do a lot of great things.

Last but not the least, I think Devs should more on their official Forums rather than Reddit. I get it that Reddit is quick etc., but neglecting your official sources of information and places for discussion looks bad. Important info, updates etc. should always be first on Forums or on the official Blog rather than Reddit or Twitter. Talk more.

Better way to gather feedback… Read profession sections. Take things seriously. Do something. Less talk. More patch notes.

Players are tired of the deflection and stalling and excuses and putting up “appearances” of having a strong investment or interest or involvement in profession development.

It’s bothersome that another event is shoved into a section of DR with poor rewards. If y’all want to revolve events around gold sinks, and if you want us to buy gems during these events, then at least make half an effort by decorating LA and offer some good rewards…

There are a plethora of things that players want, some that are already offered ingame (only obtained by exclusive currencies or by abysmal rng), and other things wished for, so offer and make these things available. Make these events fun and worthwhile.

To reiterate what I posted before. This patch shows us yet again how little attention goes toward profession and combat development.

Our characters… those professions we name… and play for thousands of hours… and pour lots of $ into, and the combat experiences in all game modes, are the #1 most important aspects of this game.

GW2 is an amazing AAA game in many ways. It also has some amazing combat elements, like freedom of movement and a real “smoothness” to gameplay, but has CCC professions.

I was hoping that this year would be the year y’all start scrapping “things” and rebuilding professions, but this first patch shows that it’s just the same old status quo spread sheet number crunching with regard to professions and combat.

I’m not being rude, just being direct with this so I hope y’all can accept it… Profession development “departments”/projects/“to do” and wish lists are underfunded, and the patch notes clearly show how out of touch and disconnected things are. I know y’all play, but please take your eyes off spread sheets and take the red pill to pull yourselves out of the numbers matrix ok?

Y’all want roles? Fix professions.

Y’all want spvp and esports to be good? Fix professions.

Y’all want to push the envelope with harder and more challenging content? Fix professions.

Y’all want to have the most kick kitten wvw experience for players? Fix professions.

Y’all want players making more and more characters and dropping thousands of $ to outfit these characters? Fix professions.

Want long term retention and high monthly concurrent numbers? Fix professions.

Want more referrals and great exposure in the gaming world for being known to have the best professions and best combat experience? Fix professions.

Professions 2.0. It’s time. Players deserve that investment, and that will all translate to more money in the coffers… Take the team and make it happen. Fix professions.

1 kill equaling 1 point is all that needs to happen. We don’t need to make a complex system for all this. It encourages fighting, killing the enemy and trying not to die…

The last thing wvw needs are convoluted requirements upon restrictions upon conditions for players to meet in order to achieve or accomplish something…

Devs are working on population balance so numbers are closer to equal. You’re also not going to have kill trading on some massive scales either.

WvW needs to be more about players killing other players, not rules and restrictions and gimmicks.

WvW would be a hell of a lot more fun if they took away 50% of all structures and dolyaks and road markers and camps and pve… and shifted the focus more on kicking kitten and kick kitten personal rewards and kick kitten “stuffs” for your guild.

Two thumbs down on the profession changes.

Traits across all professions are “messy”, too compacted and placement does not make sense at times.

Movement skill disparities need to be squashed. All professions should have access to similar amounts of movement skills. This should be equal across professions. (I would love to see a gw2 version of “power pools” to remove profession movement disparities, and other gaps too)

Many weapon skills need upgrades and reworks.

Health across professions need a reevaluation considering the amount of damage players are being hit with. This is particularly important in wvw and HoT.

Still zero revamp of stealth (to tackle perma stealth) and improving other “things” to increases combat survivability (yes I have a thief).

(I’ll reread the thief suggestion I made long ago, but I’d like to see mid combat stealth layering removed and the Thief become a “heartier” (better HP and condition resistance and removal) combatant. Having played Thief for a while now, I would like to see stealth and blindness removed from weapon skills and limited to utilities. Also, something like this… “Change all mid combat stealth powers, and things that affect stealth, to something like a visible “mist” type form or visible “shadow shroud” of sorts that reduces damage from all sources when struck. These forms or shrouds would still allow the thief to perform normally and traits can be tailored to provide bonuses and enhance these states.:”)

The condition system is still over the top and way way way overdone.

These two timers are independent. It should be noted that Confuse effects, while technically mezzes, are on a separate 15-second timer than the other mezzes listed above.")

Too many “gimmicks” for each class shoved into them in an effort to produce “roles”.

Removing of amulets in spvp was the most awful thing you could do. That’s a generic and cheap way of “balancing”.

The game direction is shifting to harder content and “roles” are on the radar, but profession development is still stuck in “turtle pace mode” for a lack of better words.

“Real” and core fundamental profession revamps need to happen. Not more number changes and seemingly random changes “of the month”.

Professions need a 2.0 revamp so roles are more defined, and things make more sense, and certain profession gaps like health and movement/travel abilities… are closed.

2.0 “Profession” and “roles” inspiration… These are the framework ideas on how to develop professions. Following these “profession” and “powers” and “role” and combat mechanic frameworks will have positive ripple effects game wide.

Druid needs a rework (among other core ranger things like complete sword rework, shortbow bleeding restrictions removed, main hand axe speed needs to be increases and off hand axe 5 needs mobility, dagger is just a complete waste, greatsword damage is awful).

Your players healing other players mechanics and abilities need a MAJOR overhaul period. Playing healer should be fun. It should be smooth. Healing should be able to counter the major incoming damage that players are faced with in certain areas of the game.

Tanking should not be based generically by toughness.

I submitted 5 bug reports on not being able to loot the trophy statue at the end.

Break bar stops at 70%.

Kill credit for branded is not counting properly.

Kill credit for the healing crystals is not counting for me at all. Still at 0.

Dodge gliding just randomly awards and I’m not sure how credit is awarded. Is it supposed to be 1 per flight? Per “lighting thing” I pass without touching?

This event is very bugged overall.

are there any of these type of stats available for EU?

The API doesn’t deliver them for EU.

I am in doubt that these numbers are correct for NA.
Deaths can only be larger than Kills, if the system also counts suicides (falling to death, dc while in combat without being hit) as deads without killer (Kills can be larger than Deads as a single kill can be credited to both other server).

Any 0 as kills or deaths is very unlikely to be true, also that T4 has 0 kills/deaths over all maps is very, very unlikely.

So if the API is that buggy, it’s impossible to draw conclusions from the numbers it delivers.

Edge of the Mists numbers?

Unfortunately no API for EotM. You wouldn’t know which map anyway.

Ok so more number changes as usual and nothing that addresses fundamental issues. I should have known the “keep an eye on Druid” statement meant zero changes to this broken elite. Sad that the Druid doesn’t even perform its main “role” at a mediocre level and we are stuck with it even longer.

Was in wvw today and kinda laughed at the tiny healing reticle I was going to use to chase down some players in need… then my timer ran out… GG

Expand EOTM?

So I really like how eotm feels like a more casual version of wvw, without the server rankings and whatnot, but does anyone else think it could be made bigger? I really like the look of the place, but sometimes when I’m roaming solo it feels like the map is a bit small, especially when there are a few zergs running around. Maybe if there were some more levels/areas that were more aimed at roamers rather than zergs that could be really cool

The design and size of the map are very well done. You want to encourage fighting as much as possible and the map is very good for crossing paths more often, for being able to catch enemy zergs taking objectives and to make it in time to defend.

Large maps are not really conducive to a good player against player experience. You want more action and less avoidance. That’s the entire purpose of this game mode.

There are more than enough areas and layers for roaming. We don’t need to make this map into a desert bl map v2.0.

This blaming eotm for all the wvw woes is like blaming fractals for what happened to dungeons. Also, you can’t think lesser of players just because they do not share the same game mode enjoyment as you. All players play for various reasons, and different things appeal to different people.

You all are entitled to your opinion, but eotm is popular for reasons. Instead of being negative about it, go pop on a commander tag and build up the community that plays there. Maybe if some of you are proactive and teach players about the competitive aspects of the game, you may ultimately encourage more people to play wvw when the big update comes…

It’s easy to complain or blame, and I know the wvw community has suffered enough, so perhaps we can make something positive happen instead while we all wait for the devs to fix up wvw.

Edge of the Mists is a problem

  • EOTM is a toxic breeding ground for undesirable gameplay and including non-competitiveness and combat-avoidance, PvE farming events and objectives intended to be fought over to grind WXP/EXP/karma.
  • EOTM has been abused since implementation. Most people probably haven’t experienced it as it was intended. I encourage and all guilds and communities to show them. Butcher them!

If people wanted to wvw instead of EOTM they would. They’re not there for a reason. If you remove EOTM, there’s no guarantee they’ll go to WvW.

  • If you had watched the preshow from Friday’s live stream (22nd January 2016), you would have seen Reyana explain why people are going to EOTM – because WvW is so quiet at the moment, a Catch 22 situation.
  • I think it’s time people stopped pretending that EOTM is it’s own game-type. It isn’t.

*Eotm is fun and fast paced.

*Lots of player interaction and combat.

*Great for beginners and experienced players.

*Great for solo or group players looking for action.

*Eotm was popular upon release, nothing new.

*WvW problems are dev development problems sorry. Time for y’all to stop making excuses…

*I played WvW up until the last tournament and it’s boring as all get out compared to eotm… Better map than what wvw has to offer too, and more conducive to encourage fighting and making it to objectives in time to catch the enemy or defend…

*You should spend more time there, you might learn something…

I just came from a QQ EoTM map with players mad because they got wiped. Commander rage quit because of all the QQ. Players were leaving to find a new instance that they were not getting farmed in… Best wvw experience I ever had in all my game time. NOT

I was going to stream a full 3 hours of k-training but the first 10 minutes showed me it is not even worth it..

And I’ve been on plenty of maps with great commanders and great competition…

Go tag up and stream it, let’s see your wvw leadership skills in action…

I don’t know that map like you guys do.. Do I really want to run players off an edge while I’m looking at the map? All I will do is slow down the k-train and make people mad. I come here to make people mad.. In game I’m different and would rather not make people mad..

Tag up and take a leadership role on a map without a commander or wait until reset… Capture objectives, find and kill the enemies, bag farm the enemies… Go lead and win the zone with the highest points… Set the tone and players will follow your command.

Set up your stream and I may even join your squad depending on time and you can lead me too…

I just came from a QQ EoTM map with players mad because they got wiped. Commander rage quit because of all the QQ. Players were leaving to find a new instance that they were not getting farmed in… Best wvw experience I ever had in all my game time. NOT

I was going to stream a full 3 hours of k-training but the first 10 minutes showed me it is not even worth it..

And I’ve been on plenty of maps with great commanders and great competition…

Scared to fight in wvw where it actually matters? Once ppk comes into play EoTM will get even more players because why give points to the other servers by dying? Just go to the one game mode where nothing you do matters at all.. I’ve never been killed by an up-level so no this is not the reason I prefer wvw over upleveled map blobs..

WvW actually matters? Hah! It’s full of gimmicks and empty timezones. It’s practically dead except for NA prime, even that is pretty weak.

Now that WvW is the new testing ground, full of banner “nukes” and airstrike “nukes”, people actually go eotm for sandbox fights.

Yup, and those players who prefer to fight and are not afraid to fight, go to eotm where its harder to avoid a fight. Eotm is far less gimmicky than wvw and there is a heck of a lot more action too…

And sorry, some of you wvw players may like breaking down 2-3 sets of barriers for ten minutes to make it to objectives and like getting 5 badges of honor an hour… some of us just love more fighting and fast paced heart pounding action…

Eotm is the master now!

I find these threads highly amusing. Who are you to say that EoTM should go away just so your preferred game mode is better for you? Thats like saying they should get rid of all HOT, Shiverpeaks, Mauuma, TC and Orr PvE zones so people can just all play in Ascalon zones ‘for better population’, cause i like that zone better.

And looking at the populations of both WvW and EotM, you could deduce that the EoTM folks greatly outnumber the WvW folks. EoTM is doing something right.

If you really cared about WvW, you’d be giving ideas on how to enhance it, not nerfing/getting rid of other game modes that do not meet with your approval. But for some reason, many WvW folks have got this ego thing when it comes to EoTM. Maybe is due to out of game communication not having as great of effect in pug groups and theey get steamrolled too much. Or maybe they are are deathly afraid that an uplevel will destroy them and they wont be able to look at themselves in the mirror for a couple of weeks due to the shame. Maybe they brought all their guildies, stepped into EoTM expecting a rofl stomp, and realized they were still out numbered 5 to 1 and got their butts handed to them… Or maybe, just maybe, that the skill level is so high in WvW these days, that many of the WvWers cannot get easy kills anymore, and they are trying ANYTHING to get the PVE/EoTM folks in there to pad their kill stats and pump their little egos…

I agree with this. Especially the bolded part. I DO think it’s fear of getting wrecked that keeps some of these wvw “only” players away from eotm…

Note that when collusion first occurred en masse in WvW (GvGs), Anet was quick to respond with the Obsidian Sanctum.
EoTM is another Quarantine

You should focus more on the big pictures and benefits of eotm… WvW is dying, eotm is not… The devs hit a home run with eotm, y’all should give it more credit…

That’s why I also proposed cutting out WvW rewards out of EOTM. Or at the very least limiting rank-ups in EOTM to one per day, similar to what was done for PVP custom arenas. If they like EOTM so much they can still play it, but if they want badges, proofs, memories, rank-up chests and dailies – welcome to WvW. Because having it all in EOTM and having it unrestricted feels like having PVP progression for killing training golems in HOTM.

The thing is there’s a chunk of EOTM’ers that are into pve and have no interest in fighting other factions or players. A lot of people just use it to level. So if you nerf that crap, well, it’s just back to pve.

Allow players to buy those unobtainable mist weapons gathering dust for a year and a half now…

It’s unfortunate that you are generalizing players in eotm or eotm itself. Behaviors like that happen in any game sorry, wvw is not immune. All types of players are across the entire game…

Individual commanders set the tone, and there are some great commanders who have and do run in eotm. I’ve seen competent commanders in both wvw and eotm… I’ve seen competent havok groups and guilds and scouts in both wvw and eotm…

Don’t generalize players or game modes with assumptions, it weakens your argument.

You deny a significant amount of EoTM maps are devoted to leveling and resource gathering? Or that such behavior hasn’t become so endemic in past RvR games as to ruin the intended gameplay entirely?

Players are there for different reasons… Such behaviours exist in wvw too…

Resource gathering… that’s interesting, considering players can gather resources faster and more efficiently in pve…

EoTM is definitely a part of the downfall of WvW. But just a part. It’s one mistake in a long line of mistakes that Anet has made in the development of WvW.

Will removing it now help WvW? Maybe, maybe not. I don’t think there’s a very good argument that it helps WvW now in its current form though.

What they should do is fold EoTM into WvW with the big update coming later this year. If there is really going to be some kind of megaserver or alliances then make EoTM part of WvW proper in a map rotation or something like that.

Eotm had nothing to do with the downfall of wvw period.

Devs lack of development did. Lack of unique rewards did. Mega huge big maps with players and stuff spread out too much did, because it makes battles less frequent, easier to avoid and overall more slow paced…

No regular and consistent tournaments for a long time was a downfall for wvw. Along with the most carptastic rewards for those tournaments… I have 500 junk scraps sitting in my inventory from a year and a half ago… Lol those Mist weapons are harder to get than legendaries and I’ve been wanting a full set, but I can only buy 1 good one and some dragonite ore right? Pretty pathetic…

Population disparities across most servers was a downfall for wvw..

Stop blaming eotm. Thank goodness it is there and thank the devs for creating a much more enjoyable and fast paced and better overall map for players who like competitive action… If it wasn’t for eotm, interest in the player vs player side of the game would probably be completely dead by now…

Also, eotm is a great place for individuals and small group players on lower pop servers to have a chance to find a bit more balanced wvw experience. It’s also a great place to get your “feet wet” into this game mode…

I think all of you who oppose eotm should go there and play. You’d be surprised how much more fun and fast paced it is than wvw… Plus, you can put on a commander tag and show off your superior leadership, competitive and group coordination skills. Doing that may teach more players about core wvw elements, gameplay and tactics, and encourage them to try wvw in a year when the “super secret” update drops…

So who is going to step up and help build communities? Hmm?

Or is it just easier to degrade players enjoying a different wvw game mode?

Also, some of you forget the devs have said that tons of pve players were also wvw players too, so just be careful when you mentally make your separation between wvw and pve players… You’ll come to find some of the superior guilds and players from the past have (and still do) played both areas of the game…

It’s sad to see a game mode dying because of lack of development, and also from lack of respect by certain players, for all players across the game. Seems pretty anti community building and counter productive to me.

Upcoming Changes to PvP Runes/Sigils/Amulets

This is simply a change to kill the bunker meta.

The meta will shift to full dps and crit and condition.

When there is too much crit going around and players are dying in 5 seconds, then they will do blanket changes to critical damage on professions and do blanket changes to crit “gear”.

After crit damage changes, then raw damage/power changes will be made and they will shift the meta to condition damage for all… Raw damage and power “gear” will get a encompassing reduction and condition damage will be increased to compensate, all in an attempt to turn spvp into a DoT fest to increase the TTK.

When condition damage becomes problematic, they will make sweeping reductions to condition damage and condition “gear”…

Eventually all abilities will be cut into half effectiveness, and gear will either be cut in half or outright removed.

It will be at a point in 2018 where the devs will just remove all “gear” and go “half for all” baseline.

The devs will never really dig into serious profession changes and they will niggle here and there about certain powers or traits. Mostly they will do carpet bombing or carpet removal to force the meta to change.

Good luck with esports on pve mechanic maps.

Reboot the Base Map Mechanic & Population

Yes…many things have been done wrong imho.

At this point…nothing posted here really matters.

Even before choosing a base map mechanic…ANet should have decided on a core vision for the past, present, and future of WvW.

Without a Core Vision…WvW is like a boat without a rudder…going in circles.


WvW Vision

1) World based War…that’s why it’s called WvW.



There could easily be 3 Worlds to 1,000 Worlds at War.

New Worlds can easily join the War in the future.

Old Worlds can be retired from the War if its population can’t support it.


2) System that allows World Communities to grow or survive.



All Worlds should be able to increase their WvW Home Rank themselves, or through Players Creating Alliances with other Enemy Worlds by teaming up.

Low Ranked Worlds that have a low or declining population level are automatically protected & allowed to survive.


3) War between Worlds should typically have no borders, but should have limitations to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.



All Players/Guilds are given the ability to attack any World.

All Players/Guilds are given the ability to team up & play together with friends that have moved to other Enemy Worlds.

Map Mechanics will be in place that scales and can be adjusted to reduce or prevent un-fair matches.

So what you are asking for is a megaserver/alliance style wvw game mode that allows all players to play on any wvw map limited by population caps to keep it balanced…

Also, maps are retired just like you see happening in pve when you get the pop up offering for you to go to a different megaserver map when it wants to close because of low population…

Gotcha.

Edit- and another also, you could potentially end up being on the same side as strangers and guilds and alliances from other servers, just like eotm and pve megaserver maps do now…

EoTM should just get removed. It is not needed anymore.. I don’t like to speak for anyone else than myself but this time I have to.. Nobody in the past year has played EoTM while waiting for their queue to pop.. Not one single player..

There were very little queues faced this year by comparison… Point is moot.

If you are speaking for yourself, and do not need eotm anymore, then don’t zone in right?

You can have your fun in EB or the ghost land bl maps that almost nobody likes…

I am sorry that you don’t find eotm fun like many others do, it’s a shame, you’re missing out… Hey ya know, if you have some great wvw talent, why don’t you put on commander tag and show all the eotm people just how it’s done huh?

I’d love to see a stream of you leading the pack in eotm and show us just how good you are at compared… Surely your wvw skills would be a great asset to players there so it shouldn’t be a problem for you to do right?

Every WvW “incentive” you have added is available in EOTM.
EOTM was introduced so people would have something to play while waiting in queue for WvW. Now there are no queues. Well, there MIGHT be a queue on EB and homeborder at the same time, but it still leaves 2 more borders for them to play while waiting in queue for EB. EOTM has outlived it’s usefuless. It doesn’t even serve as a testing ground anymore. All that EOTM does now is stealing players from WvW in huge numbers. And not because it’s better, but because it’s much easier to farm.
My server didn’t have a commander in WvW, but EOTM had a commander from my server, from a guild that’s supposed to be WvW-focused. Why? Because it allowed him to rankfarm those memories and proofs with zero resistance.
Why play WvW at all if you can have everything you need via PVE-like rankfarm in EOTM?

The gamemode isn’t struggling with numbers, all those numbers are in EOTM. Lots and lots of them.

I know this problem was mentioned before, but now it’s more critical than ever.

Remove EOTM. Or cut out every WvW-specific reward out of EOTM so people won’t farm WvW rewards and WvW dailies in PVE.

Or don’t touch EOTM and remove WvW instead. One of them has to go so the other can live in peace.

No, I think you should look up the differences between megaserver, wvw and eotm. They are all separate things.

I sincerely don’t understand why some folks feel the need to dictate how others play.

If it’s not interrupting your game play, then why even bother with duellers? Let them be.

You certainly can no longer argue they’re “taking up valuable map space” now.

The same could be said the other way though.

Clearly whoever was doing it had no respect for OP playing the game OP wanted, and without any sign of communication either.

Making up rules and expecting everyone to follow them, while raging out, isn’t particularly sensible either.

Here’s the OP

I came upon 2 enemy fighting my server’s people.
They had 2 people and my people had about 5 of us standing around watching.
I jumped in and killed both of the enemies while they were downed thinking I was contributing more than the 5 people who just stood there and watched.

One of my server mate called me a ‘loser’.

HELLO I helped kill 2 enemies while you stood there and watch.

The fact that he was cognizant of 5 other people standing and watching means he knew exactly what he was doing. It takes zero skill to stomp already downed players. Considering he has posts exclusively in WvW going back a year kind of seals that and eliminates the “oh I’m new” factor.

I suspect the OP was being facetious to elicit responses.

The fact that the duelers were cognizant other people may come across and kill them, yet still complain and make insults, is their own fault…

Duelers want an interruption free duel? Spvp and OS. Simple, right? Or is it just too complex to click a couple buttons and go somewhere?

You stand in the street, you’ll get hit by a car eventually… But let’s blame the cars right Jayne?

I dont agree with this thing.

What you are suggesting it basically “give me best gear in 2 weeks so I can get bored after 3 months of doing same thing all over again”.

Play the game and you will get it. Why rushing stuff…?

I’m a veteran. I played the game. I’m not going to be forced to do things I do not find fun. Been there are done that already. I can fire up my credit card to bypass lots of stuff and it’s a silly design to gate ascended trinkets…

A brand new account can craft their way to 80 in an hour and have full ascended (with the exception of trinkets through laurels) in a couple months… Well, just do boring as hell guild stuff and fractals… No, maybe players want to do wvw or open world or dungeons or whatever…

Anyone can buy most ascended mats off the bltc…

Anyone can buy legendary weapons off the bltc…

Anyone can buy tons of skins off the bltc…

As a veteran, I can level up any profession to 80 in 5 minutes with tomes and craft a brand new set of ascended armor and weapons and back piece whenever I want, but ascended trinkets are time and laurel gated…

Not a child here, and the way laurels are given out is treating players like children when you look at all other factors.

Boredom sets in because of boring or unbalanced or neglected or underdeveloped game modes and the subpar profession designs… Not because of anything gear related… If anything, having the gear encourages to play what you like more and encourages build diversity and experimentation…

Y’all gotta think out of the box…

Edit- is it really a big issue and does it ruin your gameplay if laurels were increases or costs were lowered or we could buy extra laurels with different currencies?

That answer is no.

So far we can’t craft this stuff either, so that is an issue in the equation too.

It’s an overall poor system for ascended trinkets, and it needs to be addressed somehow.

Blanket changes like these are not the answer. Honestly, if y’all are going to resort to this type of stuff, then just go baseline and remove all stat enhancers and runes/sigils…

I’m sorry, but this is another sign of the “low resources” that are being devoted to the most important aspect of the game, and that happens to be professions…

So i caught me thinking today about the camper PewPew ranger that is almost a must with this class and why other players hate it so much.
And i became to the conclusion is because our best weapon, the longbow it is designed to force us to play like that, and kittening is not my gameplay choice for being so boring.

So i thought this changes to move the pewpew from miles meta to a more skirmish gameplay the ranger should be fitted for.
Please try to keep your mind open about the changes, there are nerfs but also buffs to balance the weapon

LONGBOW

  • Long Range Shot. The main culprit of the camper syndrome.
    the actual tip of the weapon that somehow forces us to play from afar:
    > if range is greater than 1000: 317 (0.9)?
    > if range is between 500-1000: 263 (0.8)?
    > if range is less than 500: 211 (0.7)?
    But i think this skill should have 4 range stages instead:
    > less than 400 = 211 (0.7)
    > 400 to 900 = 263 (0.9)
    > 900 to 1200 = 317 (1)
    > greater than 1200 = 317 (0.7)
    Same as the real projectiles lose accuracy and strength longer they flight, same should happen to this projectile. Damage and multipliers may be adjusted but the point is to make to get the most of it stay in medium range. Still you can hit from >1500 but the damage won’t be as good. In exchange it should get better damage in medium range.
  • Rapid Fire. I see it fine, is the most used and useful skill and that’s because is simple and substantial. It’s not affected by range so i can be used to burst in close quarters or to force other player to come to melee.
  • Hunter’s Shot. I see this skill very bad designed. Too many requirements to have just 3 seconds stealth. I would add the range effect to this skill to:
    > if range is greater than 1000: 2 seconds stealth, 2 seconds superspeed.
    > if range is between 500-1000: 3 seconds stealth, 3 seconds superspeed.
    > if range is less than 500: 3 seconds stealth, 3 seconds superspeed, 1 second Stuned.
  • Point Blank Shot. The mother of all complains. The actual tip somehow promote to use this skill in close but it’s still too forgiving:
    less than 300 : 600
    between 300 and 600 : 500
    Over 600: 400.
    I would add the 4th range:
    less than 300 : 800
    between 300 and 600 : 600
    between 600 and 900 : 400
    over 900: Knockdown instead knockback.

This could solve the issue you getting knock off of a cliff from miles away which although is fun for the ranger i think is very unfair for the other player. Still the effect is in place. In exchange the knockback in melee is harder and push you further, so it’s effects are more punishing for the enemy.

  • Barrage. This skill has a very low damage output. The problem is that being one of the few (if not only) ranged AoE skills the ranger has, it needs to carry more of a punch.
    Actual tip:
    Damage (12x): 141 (0.4) (each).
    Crippled (1½s).
    I would go as far to double the damage and apply one stack of vulnerability so if they ignore the rain the damage will increase.
    Damage (12x): 300 (0.8) (each).
    Crippled (1½s).
    Vulnerability (1½s).

what do you think? The main objective with this changes is to make the longbow a medium to long range weapon instead to promote the camper pewpew from miles ranger that is forcing us to play right now.

I’d like to suggest that you add “suggestion” in your title so there is not confusion.

Hidden barbs: 20->33% bleed damage increase
Predator’s onslaught: 10->15% dmg increase
Protect me: AoE stun break and protection, pet taunt the next enemy that attacks you
Search and rescue: 1200 range regeneration and pet drags downed ally to you and the rezzes


Cool changes to shouts, hoping for a good stuff happening to guard and sic em.
Condi trap builds will be a fair bit stronger, nice
I doubt the Predator’s onslaught buff will change much

For a complete set purchased with laurels, it will cost a whopping 150 laurels (180 if you want infusions)… Those numbers ARE excessive considering we are gated to a MAX 55 laurels per month… You are asking players to wait an entire 3 months (and 16 days if you want infusions)… The wait is an entire QUARTER year and season for enough laurels for a complete set… This IS too much waiting and gating and cost, so here are my suggestions…

Actually they are asking players to go do fractals and guild missions. Around two weeks for all the rings and accessories.

That’s great! So Anet shouldn’t have an issue with my suggestion of being able to purchase a full set with laurels in pve and wvw over the course of a full month.

You’re looking at time rather than effort. It takes little effort to get laurels as all that you have to do is simply log in. You don’t even have to play the game. Fractals and guild missions require you to actually do something.

Yes, I looked at time. I also mentioned fractals and guild missions as well in the op. I also offered suggestions to supplement laurels through currency purchases or changing some numbers.

No effort, little effort, average effort, a lot of effort… That doesn’t matter… I’m talking about how we are given laurels and how they can be purchased.

Sorry, ascended is common now. It’s easy to obtain armor and weapons… I can buy all necessary mats to craft what I need and am only limited by gold except for initial laurel recipes… There is a disparity with “earning” or purchasing ascended trinkets compared to other ascended gear…

Not everyone wants to run guild missions or do fractals… Does game preference argument have to be brought up again?

It would take a brand new account 2 months to gain access and craft as much armor and weapons as desired, limited by initial ascended recipes for laurels and gold only…

So there needs to be a “big deal” with options or changing the timeframe to be more realistic? No, not when I can fire up my credit card and buy everything else and and even stuff like first gen legendary weapons…

Effort does matter when it comes to how quickly someone should be able to get ascended. You already see this in the game. From crafting to fractals to raids and to random drops in open world. You’re still fixated on time and that because so and so method of acquisition is unfair than this method even though it requires more effort than the other.

You are not fully reading here or understanding the big picture considering I had to summarize my op to you…

When Anet stops allowing ascended crafting materials to be sold on the bltc, and that I can buy with my credit card, then we can say “effort matters”…

Also, nice to know I can take a lot of effort buying all first gen legendaries lol… But, ya know, laurels are only given to customers for being good boys and girls by logging in…
