Sword Auto Attack

It’s not only a “feature” Stale, the ranger sword was purposefully designed to be a “high skill-high reward” weapon that the devs have masterminded to teach players true skill, timing, patience, character, humility and honor. The devs truly slaved to make it a unique weapon that stands out among the other “boring” swords. While everyone admits that it is a “wonky” weapon to use, players see that their camera turning and keyboard finess really improves and that looks great on job applications…

Also, the frontal attack bleeding restriction from short bow is another well planned “feature”, and I sincerely hope that staff gets the same type of treatment. I think it would really elevate player skill if we could only damage and heal from the front. Doing so would create a beneficial opposing balance between these two weapons and that serves to help players learn and master the art of battle field awareness and positioning.

I meant ascended gear not exotic sorry. My point remains the same though. I know there will be loads of revenants 5 mins after launch. That does not change a thing. I don’t see why someone who lvl’d legit way and did world exploration should be on par with a 5min old character.

Also sorry but if you wanna have 10 characters with unlocked elite specs, you should work for it. Like the PvE players had to go through WvW maps for world completion and like PvP players had to go through PvE to get a decent looking appearance.

Again this is not an FPS game no matter how much players who log in once in a blue moon to look in the sky& stars want it to be.

No I don’t support the typical MMO grind where you have to go through the same content for 1 million times in order to get end-game stuff, but I don’t support giving everything for free either.

It’s hardly free if it requires items such as fractal relics or dungeon tokens because it requires players to actually work at the content within the game. I think it is harsh to force players into grinding for an elite specialization if they really hate the content

Yeah, yellow misses the point completely…

How is being able to unlock an “elite” spec easier any different than using tomes to “unlock” a lvl 80 elementalist that someone has never played before?

There will be hundreds of thousands lvl 80 revenants fifteen minutes into launch so your point is moot.

Never said anything about exotics, besides, as a vet I can have full ascended gear right away on a toon that I never played… Also, a new player can buy gems and convert to gold, lvl to 80 by crafting and have a full set of exotics in a couple hours without leaving home base…

Sorry but the thousands of wvw players with multiple characters are not going to have fun “unlocking” stuff outside of wvw. There needs to be alternative routes.

Yeah something needs to be done to make this system flexible for all players. There is enough grind already.

Also, the “but how will players learn their specialization” argument is out the window with the introduction of tomes for core professions.

I have one level 80 pve/wvw toon with all completions and have a few more 80s that I will only use in wvw, so I’d prefer not to slog through a hundred hours of pve to unlock these “leet” specs.

Suggestion- weapon swapping

in Elementalist

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

I made an elementalist recently out of boredom and while it’s fun, I think there could be a better way to handle weapons. In wvw combat I have felt limited as far as having to make a hard choice on what distance I want to fight at. When I run staff, I am at a complete disadvantage when forced into melee combat. The flip side is that I feel unable to compete effectively against ranged if I use dagger, scepter or focus. Even with the variety that attunements provide, I still feel at a disadvantage so here is the suggestion…

Allow for two weapon swaps, but only two attunements can be used per weapon slot. Example, slot #1 has staff attuned to water and air. Slot #2 is dagger/focus attuned to fire and water.

Both attunements, and of course weapon(s), are locked until out of combat.

The same attunements can used regardless of slot, so all weapons chosen can run the same attunements if desired.

Thoughts? Had this been brought up before?

Any word on permanent ally health bars?

in Ranger

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

Terra, sorry but your argument doesn’t make much sense. If ANet doesn’t like us looking at the UI constantly (and neither do I, one of the reasons why I love this game), that is why they should enable health bars on top of players heads, like they do for enemies.

The druid is all about correct placement. Indeed, if we can’t tell which of our allies need healing, that makes it too cumbersome to play.

This isn’t my stance, it’s AN and they can be quite stubborn. In Raid settings, there is slightly better access to player health bars because of squad UI. In event settings there is a much stronger case for them. Still, I don’t think AN will do something like this in the foreseeable future.

I know that for many the lack of the ally health bars was one of the biggest impediments to enjoying the healing of the Druid.

Any word if this will be fixed for HoT release?

Squad UI was fixed for the last part of raids where you can see allies health.

I doubt you’ll get health bars over player’s head ever. It’s because AN don’t like people looking at UI’s and thus the squad UI is probably the best you’ll get. It is usable and it’s due to get a few more buffs after release with boon markers on players etc.

Unfortunately for anet, they will have to start caving in to player demands about qol functions like these. Also, I don’t think players really give a hoot what anet wants with regard to UI, we can put as much crap on our screen if we want. It’s already happening with all these new apps so that’s not a valid excuse anymore.

The part in bold, I take it you are referring to other games, not UI stuff for GW2? Just asking because any mod that accesses the game’s info (which is needed to do this) goes against the ToC and can get you banned so would’t advise it.

As many people have pointed out, there is demand for health bars and the like, but AN stance in the past and from various developer videos is they want people playing the game, not the UI. I was simply stating to the OP that AN are unlikely to add anything like this in the foreseeable future but instead further develop their squad UI.

We can load up a bunch of apps for gw2 from overwolf to clutter our screen as much as we want so that’s the point… It’s not anet watching our screens so who cares how much an individual player has all over the place…

So what you are saying is that you’d prefer healers watching the squad UI instead of gameplay?

And when healers are standing in red circles dying because they are watching the squad UI I’m sure that will work out well…

pretty sure devs don’t want the game to become like WoW where if you’re not in the specific set of gear party owner wants you to be in you get kicked.

No, they have that gw2efficiency now to take the place of inspecting for the hard core raiders.

lucky for me I wear unstatted armor that I can pick any stat of so that it looks blank then, eh?

Idk. The Efficiency will tell them whether or not you have ascended armor and iirc, what your char is wearing, which is what raiders will want to know.

And if that gets prevalent, that part of the API may be shut off to discourage toxic behavior. Hopefully it doesn’t get abused like that, eh?

As long as it stays with raiders it will probably be considered appropriate since ANet said that ascended was recommended for that content. I’m not sure who else besides high level fractals can enforce a request or be kicked from group, since it requires the person giving a code to access their account information.

A team/party leader can enforce whatever rules they really want for their team though…

If I only wanted ranger bear bows in all ascended in my party for wvw then that’s my right. In turn, someones can refuse to be on my team for whatever reason.

It would be kind of hard to keep people from following you around in open content, but you can always attempt to get the API codes from everyone who wants to join your group in WvW, inspect them and get going in a timely fashion, and also keep anyone else from joining you as you go along, if that’s what you want.

Map chat about such attempt should be pretty entertaining though.

Of course people would follow the awesomenes of a group of elite bear bows! Players would be like Thespians following Leonidis and his brave 300 into battle! Or like panhandlers following the Kardashians down a NYC street!

Yes, either way it would be both entertaining and epic!

I believe having more access to numbers would be great considering roles and gear are becoming more important for end game stuff like raids and fractals. It would also help players provide accurate and factual feedback to developers about skills and powers. Bug detection could be made easier for players too… Having more transparency would definitely be a benefit to both players and developers.

You can still run your traditional dungeons because they are not deleting them.

That is true, but I have some questions for ya.

If world bosses didn’t drop loot would you do them after the first time?
If a mining node didn’t give mats and was only for the fun of mining them would you continue doing it?
If Silverwastes had no drops/shovels and was just for “the fun of being there” would anyone still do it?

Same applies to dungeons, they give kitten drops. The gold at the end was their only worth so if you take that away you get what? Something that is for “the fun of being there” but gives no loot. And like the questions above of “are you going to continue doing it past the first time” is a big NO.

Well there is a difference between no loot and reduced loot…

Ascended Grind VS Raid Commitment

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

And here I thought the genuinely skillful would relish the challenge of something that tests them to the utmost rather than being trivialized by having a higher tier of gear than it’s designed for.

Sure. But i doubt they’d consider actually getting that gear an important part of said challenge. Because it really isn’t.

We’ve already seen content scaled for exotic gear in a post-ascended world is not a challenge. It’s boring.

Well, then there exist an obvious solution to both problems – make ascended easily obtainable.

I want a fight that takes BOTH skill and preparation.

Gearing up is not preparation. It’s just a grind gate.

That’s why in content that’s about skill (sPvP) all gear is made easily accessible to everyone.

The devs are disagreeing with that “gearing up isn’t preparation” statement. Gear and roles will become important come HoT launch… And yes, ascended is meant to be a gold sink and grind as well. It all goes hand and hand intentionally.

You can’t compare spvp to raids, fractals or wvw either. In spvp they want an even playing field among a small group of players competing against a small group of players.

why should I get ascended armor anyways now since there is gonna be legendary armor that will be any stat i need for the armor type. So glad i choose to make more money over ascended armor that only real place in fractals. and as they said you could have mix ascended pieces and exotics I mean the most basic of ascended kitten should be every item is ascended besides the armor

Well you will still have to earn your legendary gear and raid content IS designed for ascended gear.

They said “mix of exotic w/ ascended by top players”…. That was in reference to earlier paths. Ascended for boss paths or whatever, I’m not looking up the quote now. Also ascended gear is “recommended”, just like snow tires are recommended for your vehicle in winter… Sure, you don’t have to buy better tires, but if you crash over and over then you may change your mind…

Serious teams are not going to want to carry you in your exotics and I guarantee your pugs in exotics will fail the harder paths. And if your guild takes you and keeps failing knowing you are sitting there refusing to gear up properly, then I’m sure you’ll ruffle a few feathers.

Edit- before you ask how are people going to know what gear you have… Anyone serious about these raids will start using the gw2 efficiency site and request that you ping your info before they take you… Yes, it has anet approval so there is no escaping gear checks now…

Suggestion for ascended gear acquisition

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Swagger.1459

Considering that raids and fractals are being designed around ascended gear, I would like to make a strong proposal. In the spirit of being able to experiment with many types of gear and builds, but still keeping the value up on ascended, I would like to suggest that the devs allow for two things…

1- Allow players to purchase ascended recipes, trinkets, rings, infusions… with spirit shards in place of laurels or with a big gold sticker price. So you can use either use laurels + OR spirit shards + OR just lots of gold (super gold sink).

2- Get rid of the time gated crafting of ascended crafting materials considering the base mats have to be earned anyway.

Thoughts?

Fractals are “dungeons” for all intent and purposes, but better designed and offer more variety to players in the long run.

Strongly disagree with this. Fractal maps are often tiny, almost claustrophobic. Dungeons are nice big maps, and as a result dungeons feel different. You can really go around exploring in dungeons, and I think more people actually want to because dungeons actually make an attempt to tie into the rest of the gw2 world. Consider arah, we see huge structures that go all the way from the surrounding maps coming into arah. We understand why there are undead. We are helping researchers explore the ancient civilizations. The entire dungeon fits into the world. Compare that to cliffside or Jade maw.

I also tend to think that dungeons have more room for creativity. For example, I remember a record video where a mesmer would portal the other 4 party members from boss to boss. The mesmer never fought, just running while the others fought, and the other 4 never ran, just constantly fighting while the mesmer ran. Pretty smart. I don’t see stuff like that in fractals.

You can still run your traditional dungeons because they are not deleting them.

Fractals are getting a revamp so we will have to see what they look and “feel” like. Also, the better technology mumbo jumbo the devs are using will allow them to do more with fractals than with dungeons, so things will be better in the long run for players.

Your Mesmer example is precisely what the devs want to avoid. What you consider “smart” gameplay is basically exploiting unintended loopholes. Skip to boss then kill and collect over and over is not healthy for the game.

Ranger WvW Zerg Superstar?

Meanwhile a staff elementalist acts as a rallybot more than any other profession. Dead people don’t do damage.
Also, I’ve yet to hear a commander say on TS: “kitten , I’m getting focused by a guardian..”

And any decent WvW veteran who didn’t farm their ranks in EOTM will tell you that Rangers are a force not to be ignored.

Yet your video showed nothing but you at 1500 range with a passive pet while you were barely making a contribution… All it shows is that you can range from safety because that’s how the longbow was designed and that you were afforded that opportunity because you were carried by your zerg…

Ranger WvW Zerg Superstar?

Seems like Hitsuke and Shoe are the only ones that see the full picture about the Ranger in WvW in this thread.

“Sicarius.4639 What did you do there better than any other class?”
A lot of things actually. I didn’t die, I dropped a lot of people, I finished downed players for us to rally, I gave out a considerable amount of fury to tanky classes who generally don’t have high crit chance, I blasted water fields, I covered our flank, I hard CC’d portal bombs and prevented them to push us from behind.
Look how many times their zerg simply HAD TO stop their push cause I unloaded my RF into the front of them hitting their main melee train with high burst damage, or how many times I prevented them from restacking with muddy terrain and entangle… Stability isn’t worth much when you’re immobilized without condi clear.
You can hate Rangers as much as you like and try to put them down with every chance you get. But it won’t change the fact that they are WvW superstars if you look closely without being biased.

You’re embellishing things and your video showed nothing but a longbow ranger snooze fest. You are not going to convince any veteran here that ranger is really good in any game mode. There are far superior professions to bring for zergs and in every other area of the game.

You have longbow delusions of grandeur, and your video is proof of that.

Edit- Also, you didn’t die because you are at 1500 range while most others are stuck at max 1200 range. Basically you get hit a couple times then move out of range… Any veteran here could do the same, but that doesn’t make the rangers some “superstar”… Sorry, but your performance was not any type of meaningful Zerg game changer like you are making it out to be.

Rangers can fill an important role in zerg fights, there’s no debating it. However, you need good situational awareness and you need to position well. A complete muppet running on Ranger can be as ineffective as a chocolate fire guard.

My two main objectives during zerg fights are:
1. Pressuring the enemy back line.
2. Protecting my back line.

We offer good, long range, single target DPS on a short CD. Ideally you should be keeping an eye out for those back liners who push too far forward on the flanks. You should be keeping an eye out for downed players, and you should be keeping a close eye out for thieves who decide they want to try ganking some of your back liners.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes all you can do is find a mass of bodies and spam Barrage & RF, because there’s no targets of opportunity in range. However… if that’s all you do constantly during zerg fights, then you are doing nothing but reinforce peoples opinion that Rangers are mindless 2 spammers.

Meanwhile a staff elementalist is dropping tons on aoe damage from back lines while rangers are plucking away at that single target…

How can Ventari compete with Druid?

in Revenant

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

As many of us suggested, the cd on celestial avatar is a step in the right direction. With this change maybe Ventari/Guardian/Ele is able to compete.

However that 15% aoe damage buff is HUGE. I hope it has at least a 8s gcd so that it can be stacked only with more then one Druid .

Even factoring the 67% Celestial avatar uptime, that’s a 10% aoe damage buff.

If it has a 4-8s gcd then it’s godly design, solving many issues at once (druid damage and druid redundance), otherwise it would just make Druid more mandatory (150 aoe precision + 15% damage buff….)

I know there is an entire thread devoted to this, but I’d like to ask one thing… Where do the comparisons end???

It’s like you all are sitting there saying… “oh no!!!! Druid is best heal so Rev heals will be obsolete!!!!” “Zomg 15% aoe damage buff!!! Revs need elites that can nuke now!!!”

Seriously, I keep seeing all these posts rallying and fist pounding to have this profession be able to compete with every other profession on every level. Revenant provides a lot of versatility already, but you all keep clamoring for more. The next legend that provides a stealth skill you’ll all want to have the stealth uptime similar to thief. You’ll get a legend with an minor alacrity skill and then you’ll want to be on par with Mesmer… Next you’ll be asking for bears and longbows lol… Meanwhile there are tons of gaps in other professions that are not being added…. Perhaps we should give double heals to everyone… How about we give Rangers comparable burst of eles and shadow stepping on all their melee weapons so they can keep up with Revs in combat…

Ranger is a WvW superstar, an unsung hero and one of the professions people can still play with pride.

Rofl, it hurts. Stahp.

You basically camped longbow; your pet was always on passive; your utilities were seldom used; and your damage and effectiveness was in no way comparable to a GWEN class. You played a slightly modified backline LB build (like every other ranger) and you think that warrants claims of “zerg superstar”? You’re either new to WvW, clueless, or just trolling.

Post this in the WvW forums and ask to see some GWEN vids.

Just wait until we get “Druid so good” videos showing them standing at 1200 while zapping one enemy with staff auto and strafing to heal teammates

Ascended Grind VS Raid Commitment

I understand having asended gear for endgame content but like any dungeon people are going to go all elitist on people and expect a certtain armor. It has taken me a long time to make my ranger armor and it will just be a waste and a hastle to create new armor for him or completely be ignored for raids because he is a ranger. Until legendary armor comes out most of us will be inconvienced and it will force a lot of people to have to wait to do the content.

Can you blame anyone who would take raids seriously? The content was designed around ascended gear, having roles like healing and “tanking” and will require maximum effort. Nobody can realistically expect the devs to keep making endgame content around auto attacking in exotic zerker gear anymore.

Raids and meters...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

Some of you take isolated instances and blow them way out of proportion.

If a player doesn’t like a group then there are options to join another group or start your own. If someone gets kicked from a group for whatever reason by the team leader, then that’s their prerogative anyway. Much like any of you can start a group and kick whoever you don’t like or want either.

The content coming is not about standing at a bosses foot with 50 players and auto attacking while you eat dinner or watch a movie. This end game content is designed around expensive ascended gear, roles and coordinated team efforts, it’s not spam and collect anymore. Serious players who are investing time and effort to beating these challenges are going to be naturally picky anyway, so no, they will not want to carry people and increase the chances of failure for themselves and the rest of their team who are likeminded.

Having personal tools like meters and such will have a ton of benefits game wide, and far outweigh the random “spoil sport” that will be complained about on the forum. Better access to data and transparency with numbers are important especially when we are being told that stats, numbers and coordination really matter now.

Are you commenting just to comment? Apparently you didn’t understand what I wrote. Also, there is nothing “legendary” about annoying your player base, who they want gem purchases from, in different ways.

Edit- so you are saying that if someone who spends 1000 hours in wvw playing, coordinating teams, investing money, gold and effort to help their server should not be rewarded the same as someone who spends 1000 hours in fractals and raids?

I disagree completely. I believe players should be able to earn the same rewards by doing content that they like, and there are ways to make that happen. The devs stubbornness on these issues only serves to alienate more players.

Also, forcing players to subject themselves to activities they don’t like only serves to artificially inflate numbers for anet. It puts players in places that don’t really want to be and ruins the spirit of the activity for everyone else. Example, you’ll have x amount of players in wvw and spvp who only want to be there until they earn their required crafting mats. These players don’t care about the competitive nature of wvw and spvp so it only serves to water down the experience of others who do care. The flip side is that you can take persons out of wvw and spvp and make them run raids and fractals, but they won’t really care either because they will earn their mats and go back to what they like. Forcing players to do activities is a tactic used by the devs to hide flaws in game modes by inflating numbers. So in the long run, the devs are basically just covering holes instead of fixing them, and that is not healthy for the player base or long term retention.

Sorry, but I believe that if someone wants to spend x hours each day doing wvw, they should be rewarded the same as someone who spends x hours doing fractals…

So dungeon rewards... why?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Swagger.1459

Swagger.1459

Dungeons were not the most popular pve content, open world stuff was.

John smith had said doing dungeons was not the most profitable activity anyway.

IMHO, dungeons here were terrible in design

The devs have stated that it was too difficult for them to change, modify and spruce up dungeons. Fractals provide much more flexibility for the them as far as work, design and maintenance goes.

Fractals are “dungeons” for all intent and purposes, but better designed and offer more variety to players in the long run.

Raids and meters...

I think some guys forget that it is a PERSONAL meter.

Not sure what you’re trying to say here.

Meters will show everyone in the groups/raids numbers, not just your own.
Or
If your saying its a personal choice, this is part of the argument, it won’t be a choice, it will be “Do you have recount (or whatever it would be called) installed ? If no then you will need to leave the raid and try again once you have this addon”. This is the problem, once it’s in, it’s pretty much a requirement.

I think this is the biggest issue, many don’t want to be forced to use an addon, there is plenty of games out there you can play if you’re an addon freak, it’s not a necessity in GW2.

I was advocating for personal meters and such that keep track of your individual performance numbers and combat log stuff. I wasn’t asking for a real time group wide monitoring add-on.

There is alot of useful data that could be used and formatted in such a way that helps the individual player.
