It’s stuff like this that makes you all regret opposing open world pvp…
Imagine all the pveers you could make cry along the way with your massive hero point zergs… Imagine how fun it would be to guard those 10 point hero challenges with arrow carts and 50 people…

Anet is guilty of the classic Bait and Switch.
Lure people into buying the expansion with these new Elite Specializations and then tell them they must earn X amount of points before they can actually be played. Essentially we have to play through all four maps to unlock enough points for the ES and then go back and play through the content again to experience them.
This wasn’t stated up front though people have asked over and over again. Arena Net enticed people to buy the expansion, with the implication that upon reaching level 80, the ES would be just another trait line….unlockable with Hero Points we already have….but that’s not what they’re telling us just a few days from launch.I feel like I have been intentionally misled.
I currently spend $200 per month on this game in the Gem Store.I understand this is likely not Colin’s fault, he just an employee doing what he’s told.
Still the feelings of disgust I have towards this company will keep me from spending any more real world currency on this game until we (the playerbase) get a detailed explanation as to WHY this information was with held until just a few days from release.
Baitically what (s)he said.
All this leaves a baitter taste in my mouth. You baitter believe that a lot of players are going to feel the same way abait this issue. Unbaitlievable!

So if we tome a rev to 80, how many HP will we lack to unlock all the core specs, or is it enough? Just trying to figure out how far away ill be from herald with no vanilla HP unlocked
You will lack 400 after you level with tomes

You guys and gals make it so everything you do provides exp and hand out tomes like candy so players can start spending money on their shiny new lvl 80 toys… You want players to fast track to 80 and enjoy the game and their characters, but then y’all throw in stuff like this…
Your money makers are your lvl 80s, so I’m sure you’d much prefer players happily buying up gems to get tons of stuff to outfit characters as opposed to begrudgingly grinding to get to the “good stuff” while feeling less and less inclined to whip out that credit card…

Just wondering why some people think that game developers don’t need eat or feed their families…
It’s strange. I suggested once that they try to pay their bills with forum insults and suggestions by others to give stuff away for free, but they didn’t listen to me.
That is strange. You’d think that socialism would take over the gaming industry by now so tax payer money could fund it all for players and developers, but no…

Weapon- land spear (mid ranged weapon using solar/flame themed attacks)
Insect pets- http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Insect_Hunt
*the sunspear insect hunt was to kill insects and spiders, but ya know how tyria times have changed…
It all ties in together and would be so awesome!
Edit- if you do some researching you will notice that this guy http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Runduk gives access to this http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Sunspear_Rebirth_Signet which led me to thinking that this could be like a hybrid Druidesque/Necroesque type legend… Solar powered spear weapon attacks could have on kill effects and utility passives tailored around using the essence of dead enemies to do cool stuff like boons, buffs, healing… in a mid ranged radius around the player… Think of it as one big “on kill” sigil effects generator…
I’ll put more thought into this, but can you all see it?
(edited by Swagger.1459)
Did they state somewhere, that pets not working in pvp was intended?
And of course i’m only talking about BWE3, since we don’t know, if/how the pets will change. But yes, i think (well, at least hope), they will nerf the smokescale. And then hopefully change/buff all those useless pets …
There’s a magic word called “logic”
If developers notice pet doesn’t work, they would have patch it asap since it’s not a difficult fix. They didn’t do so even when they clearly aware the issue, showing they didn’t intend to let you use them in PVP because they know some pets are over-toned.
We can always use our brain to figure things out. We don’t have to wait for Anet to say this, say that to know the data and how each skills/mechanic work. It’s not hard to notice Smokescale is stronger than every single pet in the game by a huge margin during BWE3
That’s because the smokescale and bristleback pets were originally designed for Revenant, so they will need to be toned down for ranger.
If you look at what is being introduced with hot… 1 new profession, 9 elites, tons new skills, traits and stuff… It’s pretty disheartening that things like the Rangers pathetic damage, mostly useless pet, “wonky” sword that is more often than not detrimental to use, bleed restrictions on short bow, rooting axe 5, uninspiring dagger…. have all been left to rot because it’s seemingly too difficult or beyond the scope of development to fix or improve… But hey, we have a 1500 range long bow and rapid fire right???
Pet’s are getting improvements (like not dying in PvE) and I still don’t see a problem with having 6500 DPS self-buffed.
If you can’t play a ranger properly then don’t play one. Or if you do play one the wrong way – don’t claim statements that you can’t support with facts.
Sure, in pve… also, this post was made before the announcement.
Under the ideal set up vs a training dummy or stationary AI enemy, a pve ranger can really shine
I’m really trying to play this broken down and underperforming profession properly so please don’t lose faith in me.
When HoT hits I’ll get right to work on my Fact Finding Mastery Track, I promise!

This change was designed to help stomp out gold sellers and buyers, and to help reduce the impact on a hacked account.
Exercise restraint like the Andred said and you will be ok.
Looking up some GW lore I noticed that Shiro had constructs with bows. I think that would be interesting and beneficial to give Revenant access to long and short bows in the future considering there is only one ranged weapon available.
Thoughts?
Remember, you’ve seen that many designers are actively reviewing professions. So don’t give up hope, and be sure to keep in mind that the devs have to look at the big picture as well as the small. There is a lot of careful and critical review taking place, and I have a feeling there will be other changes in the future. (And no, I don’t know what they are, but I’m glad that the professions are getting so much attention these days, and this change seems a really great step in the right direction!)

Hero Points are intended to be a finite resource. That is specifically why all excess skill points were converted into spirit shards. If any options were provided that allows hero points to effectively be bought, by repeated activity, they would no longer be finite and that would defeat the design intent of the new system.
Yes, this “hurts” those who only care about game modes that aren’t open world PvE. Too bad. Open world PvE is what the game is designed around. So suck it up and rush through it, or don’t play an elite spec.
Are you generally late to parties?
Apparently…
As Maxwell Smart used to say, “Missed it by that much.”
That’s ok, I forgive you. I fully understand that us rangers are usually behind on things. It’s not easy to break the habit because we’re use to being rooted and delayed by our sword or in some distant place away from the others trying to make our short bow arrows bleed our enemies or needing to constantly stop and mourn over our pets.

It amazes me that this question is asked everytime players play a beta and release hits. For future reference just assume the answer is yes you will lose all beta progress (not to mention it was on your screen the entire time you played beta that progress would not be saved).
Apparently, in some games beta characters (at least looks etc) are kept when the game launches. (I confess that I don’t understand why any developer would risk the sorts of errors that would be likely.)
I’ve never heard of or seen any beta characters being saved for a live publish of any game.
The more I hear about Revenant, the less interested I am in ranger. The prospect of having a ton of versatility like being able to “tank”, heal, support, dps… All wrapped up in one profession sounds great. In addition to that, they will have weapons and abilities that function much better on the battle field, and the prospect of having higher base damage, a nifty ranged hammer with attacks at 1200 that hit 5 targets (that is superior to our longbow even with 1500), and a total reliance on self instead of a pet that contribute very little in most situations and ends up doing nothing because they have empty health bars in any type of challenging content.
Sorry to by so cynical, but I hope the ranger is improved sooner than later instead of the emphasis be on Druids and dragon babies to placate ranger players. I believe a first good step would be to review damage values and burst numbers because in practice (aka on training dummies and AI) the pet is ok, but in every other area of the game we are damage deficient.
As things currently stand, I see better alternatives to Druid healing because stack-buff-spam is still the prevalent form of high end gameplay and other profession have access to heal abilities. Also, I foresee the only real highlight to being a ranger/druid will be the occasional “look at my cool self healing” bunker 2.0 ranger videos popping up once in a while…
Idk, you think I’m wrong?
Edit- I feel bad that Irenio adopted this mess, but hopefully we can get some real improvements soon, not soon™…

Smh for Americans
Title, it’s clearly time to divide WvW and EOTM, because karma train happening in EOTM does count as WvW and it is ruining realistic statistics for us and effects WvW way to much.
People leveling characters in EOTM count as active WvW players, which is not fair from my point of view.
It’s a great place to learn wvw mechanics. It’s obviously popular so anet is not going to cut off their nose to spite their face.
Eotm doesn’t ruin anything. If someone doesn’t want to wvw then they won’t wvw anyway.
Loot sucks all around in both wvw and eotm so you are embellishing things with your ktrain comment. And who cares, let players enjoy what they like.

It’s nice to know that you only have 1 level 80 character and that you prefer to insult player feedback on this matter, but yet say stuff like the bolded above…
Players are entitled to their feedback especially when they have a heck of a lot more level 80 characters than you.
I do apologize if I offended or seem to be attacking you. Just because I decided to not be an alt-fanatic doesn’t mean mine or anyone else’s feedback is any more-or-less important.
What does having more than one level 80 toon got to do with this? How does having one of every class at 80 make you any more or less informed then me? At the start of the game maybe this might have been the case, but this game is three years old already. There are more than enough videos, wikis, guides and other resources out there so anyone can learn all they need to know going forward.
Do I have to do as much work as you do to “unlock” my character’s full power? No, but then again, having different toons and wanting to keep them all competitive should mean you get to put in twice, three times, <Insert number of toons here> times the amount of work that I have chosen to do. This also means you have more options at your disposal and the cost for this, in this game, is Time.
My biggest problem with Threads like this are all the demands for double standards and the emotional arguments about how it’s “Not how we want to play, new options need to be put into the game just for us.”
I dislike PvP a LOT… yet, there is no alternative way for me to get a HoTs Legendary then to PvP both in WvW and sPvP.
There is no way for me to get certain achievements or titles other than to PvP.
Because that is how Anet has set up the game.
Why shouldn’t there be some PvE only rewards? Because you and others don’t want to deal with it?
Which brings me to this:
There is a HUGE difference between optional fluff skin items and something that deals with core gameplay for your character. I totally believe Anet should lock skins and minis to certain content to provide incentives. Because at the end of the day, that’s optional. Something like elite specs or stat gear like ascended though? No, that should really be available through multiple avenues.
This is a valid point, and a good one at that. My only argument to this would be…
The Elite Specs and Ascended Gear are not a part of the “core” aspects of the professions.
While they certainly help a great deal, and offer new and interesting powers we haven’t had yet, it is not considered a “core” aspect. Because they are not “core” aspects, then that means they are “optional” aspects, which as you pointed out… are locked behind content to provide incentives to play other game modes.
So then the argument boils down to: “What is a Core Feature of the Characters?” and I think that can be answered by asking “What do Free-Players have access to?” Anything not on that list, Which includes most of the HoTs content, at least in my opinion is optional content.
I am open to any arguments that would stress otherwise.
Well if you had more than one 80 then you would understand. If you were a wvwer with a ton of different characters made specifically for wvw then you would understand.
You jump into the tread insulting players about feedback just because you don’t see a problem. You have every right to argue against and provided counter points, but you don’t diminish someone else’s feedback.
It’s hypocritical of you to clamor for Revenant changes because that’s next in line to be your number 2 lvl 80 that you are using tomes to bypass the NPE, but have the nerve to insult players who invest a heck of a lot more than you with all their 5-10-15-20-25…. Lvl 80 characters who maybe are made for wvw and have no interest in slogging around maps for 20 hours per character to unlock a part of their profession.
So you are allowed to provide feedback and use a speedy method to unlock your precious Revenant to bypass NPE, but you have an issue with other players providing feedback so they can use alternative methods to unlock their elites to avoid an extreme annoyance. That’s called double standard…
Again, players are asking for alternatives, not freebies so cut back on the self righteousness. Also, the optional legendary grind that was self imposed and your distain for pvp really shines through in your “anti-alternative” augment and insults, so stop being childish and start providing constructive counterpoints instead. And your optional legendary grind in no way compares to players gaining access to core profession stuff that is used in a competitive environment such as wvw, raids and high level fractals.

just as the title says; please add gold back to the bank?
I’d give my left arm and a leg to have that little function again (and i am lefthanded) .Right now i store my money on a guildbank, i don’t like running around with a heap of gold; it’s too tempting to spend.
But this" guildbank" has been reason for a mini-heartattack every so often, when i mistakenly misclick the leave button instead of the represent-button.
(Thank god, Anet added a “check-question” and asks me do doublecheck my choice; if not i would have lost a lot of gold numerous times).
Also the “500g pro week”-limit restricts me, because i moved my gold from on slot to another (because of guild stash changes); but i couldn’t even move all af it
And now i can’t even withdraw anything this week anymore. I don’t even know, if the remains of my gold in the first 50 slots will still be there after HoT rolls out.so please add that little function back to the bank, it was there before, i suppose it wouldn’t be to hard to implement it again? (if for nothing else than the sake of my sanity…)
And before people start pointing out: “that’s what the wallet is for.” You don’t run around with your whole fortune in real life either; you store your valuables (liquids & objects) somewhere safe eg. the bank. Gold is money and therefor a liquid valuable, it should have a spot in the bank as in real life.
EDIT: i’m not looking to get the wallet removed, i like that feature. All i want is to have the extra option again of being able to store some gold in the bank.
There are more benefits to this system game wide than there are drawbacks to individual players.
Plan gold use better and learn self control with spending and you’ll be golden
It’s not only a “feature” Stale, the ranger sword was purposefully designed to be a “high skill-high reward” weapon that the devs have masterminded to teach players true skill, timing, patience, character, humility and honor. The devs truly slaved to make it a unique weapon that stands out among the other “boring” swords. While everyone admits that it is a “wonky” weapon to use, players see that their camera turning and keyboard finess really improves and that looks great on job applications…
Also, the frontal attack bleeding restriction from short bow is another well planned “feature”, and I sincerely hope that staff gets the same type of treatment. I think it would really elevate player skill if we could only damage and heal from the front. Doing so would create a beneficial opposing balance between these two weapons and that serves to help players learn and master the art of battle field awareness and positioning.
But I don’t see any high-reward from using sword…
Why do I use a weapon that relies only on spamming AA and some clunky evade spam? (Sword 2 is very clunky as well, the evade pops up way too late and the evade frame is super short, and it takes too long to finish the back leap)With Revenant’s sword, they do high and consistent damage, block incoming attacks, pull enemies, long evade while using sword 3 (and high dps long range). That’s what I called high reward weapon for skillful usage..
I grab sword just to use my off-hand because axe is an even weaker option..
Personally I do not want a 2-hand weapon like staff. I’d rather be scepter for ranger so we can utilize our off-hand weapon and becomes a support class using Warhorn or mix hybrid class using torch, or dps class using off-hand axe.
Staff 4 is terrible and staff 5 has very long CD and short duration anyway, so I’m ok to give up those 2 skills. (Revenant’s hammer has 6 secs/12 cd mobile projectile block, Druid has 5 secs / 20~25 CD unmobile projectile block. See the double standard treatment here?)
Come to think of it, we have TOO MANY CLASSES using staffs already, and NONE of the new classes can use scepter… Why not give Druid a scepter, and staff to Revenant and Daredevil? If Anet can fix axe 5 and makes it mobile, we really don’t need staff 5’s clunky projectile block at all.
Well, we will just have to agree to disagree.

It’s just the hypocrisy and the double standards being tossed around… It’s a pet pevee if you will.
It is a pain in the kitten to deal with game-modes you rather have nothing to do with, for me, those game modes include anything remotely related to Player vs. Player combat, I just have no interest in fighting other players.
But, Anet has forced us to do it if we want certain things… And clearly hasn’t back down from this stance. So if that is the case, Why should WvW’ers get special treatment?

That’s pretty cool.
You’re missing the point terra so go back and reread the conversation.
In such a movement heavy game by design, the devs need to do away with all the slow and small radius skills. This only promotes stacking at bosses feet, more bunkering in spvp and limits viability.
Does this aoe snap targeting allow Druids to drop ranged aoe heals centered on an ally?
Does this aoe snap targeting allow Druids to drop ranged aoe heals centered on an ally?

If players wanna “lvl” their characters via 5k tomes, fine by me, but don’t demand everything. Elite specs should not be easy to unlock.
I for one would not wanna see every “n00b” unlocking the elite spec of his class in 5 seconds…
First you don’t wanna “grind” for exotic armor, then you don’t wanna “grind” for Hero Points, then…
I’m sorry you can’t have it all from the moment you logged in. This is not an FPS game. It’s extremely casual friendly as it is already, don’t ridicule it…
This attitude is very anti-WvW. Many of us leveled our characters in WvW and have characters that are pretty much exclusive to WvW. There should be a way to obtain hero points in WvW. Not to mention it’s going to be hell for those with tons of alts.
I find it weird that Anet said in the last Guild Chat that they understand doing certain things like world exploration over and over again on alts is a huge chore. That is the reason they eliminated it from the requirements for the new legendaries. But here they are making things miserable with this 170 point hero point requirement to unlock elite specs. If I have to do that on my main, fine I’ll do it. But having to do it for every single alt character is very miserable.
170?? what the …. Are you ……. serious? My main is ok, but there is no way I’m running through pve maps again with the rest of my 4 alts to achieve 680 hero points.
That is the amount data minded. I completely agree, I wish to play druid, reaper and chrono but i seriously can’t be bothered to grind out all those hero points. It’s essentially grind gating players from content which they have been hyping for ages. Very bad move unless they implement a system to getting hero points alternatively.
Yeah I just looked that up. I’ll be able to do it on my main because I have the points, but I’m not running around maps again on the rest.

So how bout those “noobs” that WvW the vast majority of their playtime? How bout those “noobs” with well over 4,100 hours in the game that have 15 character slots filled with 80s. HP are fundamentally PvE. There are very few available on WvW maps, and tbh I’ve spent the last 5 days grinding HP, and it’s mind numbing.
A quest I’m fine with. An event I’m fine with. Letting us use WvW rank points to substitute for HP I’m fine with. Grinding weeks to unlock elite specs on the 5 characters I want to continue with….not really fine with it.
Wvw is for noobs
I think the fact that legendary can change stats on the fly outside of combat is great, but it becomes a lot more irritating when you’re stuck with the same upgrades unless you keep on over writing them.
I think this will be much more exaggerated with legendary armors, I’m curious what people currently do with their current legendaries when it comes to sigils.
I’m sure they chose carefully and only overwrite cheaper ones.
Someday they will have legendary trinkets, rings, runes, sigils… But for now, we all have to suffer through this until we can start suffering more to fully “legend out” our characters.

Well, if it is indeed already possible, then the journey is already halfway there. Devs can make a better path to access realtime stats, while aspiring programmers do the “heavy lifting” and create the legit personal use app.
