Vitality/power/precision, trait to add more power instead of vitality, then some celestial stats to fill in the blanks. Then for traits do traits that add damage, longbow from long distance can then do 2k+ dmg per auto attack which works quite well in pvp actually.
Still adding stuff to my inventory, now at 70+ lvl 80 exotics in my bag and bank.
Also recently added Inquest shoulders which look slightly better compared to the CoF shoulders in my opinion.
yea gw and gw2 were never hardcore but more casual games. But I do hope you’ll still be able to enjoy the game regardless of the balance issues.
I angried the opposing team, all of ‘m came after me so I cc’ed, invuln, reflect projectile into mistform and right as I got out of mistform I got hit with dagger fire no. 5, a skill that’s almost impossible to hit with right after I got out of mist form for 4.5k dmg :p
I main elementalist spending almost all my time on elementalist excusively and from time to time I try out different professions. So when the elementalist got hit by another nerf bat I decided to try out mesmer. Normally I scored between 100 and 150 points in a match. First time with mesmer ever, lvl 1 into pvp just went with a random mantra build and got 400+ points 5 matches in a row….
I have observed a certain strange occurence over the couple months of pvp I’ve played. Namely the following: ‘Whichever team has the most mesmers wins.’
Now I don’t play pvp a whole lot, maybe 40 matches a month so I don’t dare to state the aforementioned statement as a fact but I would want to see if you after playing for a couple days observe the same thing. If you don’t then that’s great
zerker staff works quite well for me, if you use the CC in tandem with a hammer warrior works amazing
.
pvp is the most fun when fighting in 2v2’s
We do not have the highest damage, we do not have versatility (condition and boon wise), we do not have profession specific survivability mechanics just more skills, we have lowest hp, we have lowest armor and all our skills are heavily telegraphed and thus easy to see, learn and counter….
For a practical example:
played elementalist for 1200 hours went to PVP with a pvp build before many of the nerfs we have right now and I got an average of 150 points. I noticed that which ever team had the most mesmers always won so I rolled a mesmer, lvl 1 first time ever went to pvp with a mantra build and got an average 400 points the first 5 matches….
Its not just the fact that we get one-shot but the fact that we can hardly beat anything even when you’re an experienced seasoned elementalist player.
get full exploration keep getting black lion keys open black lion chests and get the fine transmutation stones
Glad to see you’re enjoying the elementalist class
Once you start entering dungeons however you should try out the S/F or Staff for group heals buffs and blocks.
You can also go as a front-liner dps/healer using a cleric set-up and signet of restoration
. But in PVP the signet of restoration is pretty much useless
Necromancers can do beastily damage, engineers are fun to play, thieves are tricky (pun) and rangers are quite fun and nice to pve with but again the pet-system makes them tricky to handle.
D/D elementalist and swap out for S/F for dungeons and Staff for the big boss battles. The Ride the Lightning skills has some nice applications in several jumping puzzles as well and almost all of the D/D skills are instant cast with consistent damage healing and buffs.
I am an elementalist with the lowest hp and armor and my healing in pvp got nerfed so here’s my suggestion.
Give us medium armor and let the thieves have our light armor. I mean they can one-shot me might as well give them more of a risk to play while elementalist are often the ones getting one-shot.
Why is it that the elementalist a supposed jack of all traits <- pun
Is stuck with 20 arcane to be able to use all his skills effectively
Can only choose direct damage for dps because we don’t have access to confusion, fear, torment, poison and only mediocre accesibility to bleeds.
Why is it that our hp and armor are so low and our healing power got nerfed because it prevented others from killing us… Now we have nothing to prevent us getting killed direct damage when opted for only gives us mediocre damage and it leaves us completely and utterly defenceless. (from a D/D perspective)
So I switched to S/F in pvp and it worked out quite alright even though I do not like the skill 4 and 5 of the focus fire or that the 4 on focus water doesn’t do any damage whatsoever.
zerk only works in zergs in wvw. For ele anyways since we have the lowest base hp and lowest armor plus what you already mentioned an inability to swap between long and close range. We’ve got some perks too though. Go for cleric+zerk for example and you’ll have survivability and still have some decent damage. *best to have zerg trinkets since they give more crit dmg.
I was rezzing someone and then two mines respawned, I was fine and didn’t trigger them, then came some idiot running by triggering both mines killing me and bringing along a train of mobs that finished me off. Its fine if it happens once but 5 times in a row….. that’s well over 30 silver in waypoint costs down the drain. Not to mention that nobody stopped to even try to rez me.
Besides the timeframe in which that happened, I’d say the tower was pretty fun…. for 2 days. Now I’m back to wandering around the world wondering if there’s something I haven’t found yet.
MORE jumping puzzles!! New jumping puzzle ever 2 weeks
ele in gw1 (was my only maxed character even after 4 years) now in gw2 1 year into the game and ele is still my only main. I had a lvl 80 warrior but I didn’t like his appearance so I deleted it….
so that’s why 50% of pvp is filled with warriors now…..
yea, its actually pretty hard to think of cool creative spells and effects…
But barricade where you create your own highground does comply with the rest of the thread right?
Another suggestion:
Elemental Atunement elite. Transform into an elemental (fire elemental while in fire atunenement, water while in water atunement etc.).
air 4-5 fire- 3-5-4-earth-4-3-3-5-2-water-1-2-3-4-5
result:
full health, mightstacks, lots of damage, bleeds and burns on foes.
armor:
zerker+rampager
Sigil of Battle ftw
traits:
0/30/0/20/20
instead of freezing gust on focus do Tsunami!! Knock back 900 range aoe in a line. Giant wave!
Glyph of Elemental Atunement. Attacks now do direct damage ignoring armor.
Vaccuum
create a vaccum around enemy making them weakened (10 sec) and stunned (3 sec).
Any enemy that comes too close to the vaccuum aoe receives the same effects.
Rebound lightning flash
teleport targetted foe towards targetted location.
Barricade
earthen wall that you stomp up out of the ground to stand on. This way melee can’t target you for its duration and you can only use ranged on them. Dissipates if you drop off of it. (works well with the water trait that gives combo fields upon falling damage).
Overheat/burning speed
give quickness to enemy but also make them take 50% more damage and stay burned for its duration.
improvement on auras:
let them be small aoe-combo fields so if you’re throwing projectiles through your fire aura they cause burning and such.
tried it out in pvp…. definately not worth it. Our conditions just don’t do as much damage. they last long but that’s about it.
So basically we need a different glyph to fit the stunbreaker on. One that could maybe possibly trigger auras? Then keep glyph of elemental power as is?
i hope you are not saying that warrior lacks survivability in WWW because being one of the best classes and most popular for WWW would suggest the opposite.
So much confusion everywhere between pvp and www
I think he is referring to sustain. I can jump in on my warrior if everything is up I can stay in for a bit and get out but you kind of have to get far out as in reset your health many times. A ele doesn’t really have to break combat just create enough space to get your heals off and go right back in if your running signet of restoration then you don’t really have to break combat often ele does have the ways to replenish health that don’t rely on a 30 sec cd or 25 if you take mending. I wouldn’t say it is far in a elementalists favor though warriors can stay in pretty decent after the recent buffs.
That is exactly what I meant. It’s true that the recent buffs have helped sustainability on the warrior but it still is no where near as good as the ele. Last night we had a 3 zerg fight for SM and fought trapped on the second floor for over 10 min. An awesome battle that we eventually lost but none the less, my ele survived to the end. My warrior (not a zerk but a well balanced WvW build) would have run out of heals 8 mins ago and died (without the help from Ele and guradian heals and buffs), even with Melandru Runes and Lemongrass food + cleansing ire and dogged march.
Yep. This is exactly what I meant. Warriors are great in WvW due to their mobility and ability to reset (and high damage helps). But in spvp/tpvp you cannot reset so easily (due to smaller area and conquest gamestyle), so you are forced to fight an uphill battle (since your sustain is pathetic). An ele can sustain very well (nearly as good as engi/guard) without the use of gimmics like stealth (thief). The only problem is base hp which is why nearly every ele in spvp/tpvp takes 20+ in water.
warriors? mobility? really? You let them get away?
1. If its a tanky warrior he won’t kill you if you keep a steady stream of heals.
2. Very few warriors go ranged so once he’s running or once you’re outside of melee range he won’t do damage. You can.
3. Warriors generally lack good condition removal so chilling/cripple/immobilize+stuns and knock downs and knock backs all chained together will prevent warriors from getting away.
EU Swimsasa Stoon
main elementalist; close to 1000 hours played.
applying as a student.
Though I’ve tried many pvp and pve builds and have a few succesfull ones I still feel that there is more to learn.
secondary professions:
Warrior, Guardian, Ranger.
been playing since pre-launch.
A pokemon I designed (could use all 4 elements) named it Swimsasa Stoon.
Made gw1 elementalist main named it Swimsasa Stoon.
Made gw2 elementalist named it Swimsasa Stoon.
pvp is like rock paper scizzors.
Necromancers and Engineers are bosses in conditions.
Since you do water/arcane/air you’re not doing much conditions.
Necro’s and Engineers are pretty horrible at cleansing conditions so stacking up some bleeds, burns and chills will get you a loooong way.
How to cleanse conditions as an ele has already been discussed in the above and if you want to beat the engi’s+necros just use a few more conditions with mightstacks to up your condi-dmg.
kits is not conjured weapon.
Bus is not a car
why…?
It just is….
I love conjures, don’t touch ’m
the Charr should be in Charrge.
A bit of backstory behind the thaumanova reactor is that they mined their stuff from the jumping puzzle underneath Piken Square. Now I wonder if its a coïncidence that piken square is right above a cave full of mystical chrystals that summon random mobs from all over tyria.
Back in GW1 Piken Square was 1 of two outposts north of the wall that you could go to (besides Rin during one of the missions).
Why did they pick Piken Square? Why was Piken Square built there? As it was there in pre-searing ascalon too but nothing note-worthy is anywhere near Piken Square so that made me wonder if there’s more to the thaumanova reactor and the cave under piken square than Arenanet is letting off.
Plus the Thaumanova Reactor is in the Maguuma Jungle… Maybe we get to explore the Maguuma Wastes sometime soon
The problem is that although having the stunbreak on GoEP doesn’t make any sense, when you REALLY WANT to add a stunbreak to a glyph, it still makes the most sense.
Heals should never stunbreak so that glyph is out. The Rez Glyph has way too long of a cooldown and is generally unusable. Both elemental glyphs don’t make any sense to have a stunbreak. And Glyph of Storms is a targeted aoe which makes it unusable as a split-decision stunbreak gylph.
I really dig the idea of GoEP giving an aura depending on your attunement.
I’d prefer to have a buff to current GoEP, move stunbreak to Storm AND redo it to make it fit.
(all of this cause personally i’m testing and digging GoEP so if gets changed migth be a little disappointed. :p )
Glyph of storms is already viable-1
Glyph of storms becoming a stunbreaker is the same as saying meteor shower should become a stunbreaker. It ain’t gonna happen.
Glyph of elemental power on the other hand is a stunbreaker with little viability. The conditions are ok but they proc just a couple times for a short duration.
Shhhhhhh stop spreading the FGS trick or it’ll be nerfed:p
Really though, it’s very limited because of the wal thing as you said. Somehow I feel like it’ll be hard to convince pugs they should be luring it to a wall as well. When you can apply it though, it’s a very powerful trick.
you don’t need a wall, you can do that with Lightning Flash.
That’s awesome if you can pull that off
0/0/30/30/20 cleric amulet with soldier gem and runes of the forge.
This is what I run in pvp and quite frankly, I don’t get killed in 1v1’s.
Ran it for 3 weeks and only got killed in 1v1’s 3 times because my face-rolling failed.
It’s was not that one spec was too powerful, it was just that the other specs were not powerful enough. Anet did not understand so they nerfed one of the only decent specs.
This, so much this. Anet’s logic: “Everyone is using the same build so lets make it suck as much as the other builds that few other people use. It will make the class more diverse!” Not once did they stop to think that maybe the reason everyone was using the same thing is because they nerfed us so hard after beta we had no choice. You used to be able to go glass and actually be able to be a true glass cannon. But they took the cannon part out of that because too many scrubs hadn’t learned not to stand still in the giant red circles, then complained we were OP. So we had the overall damage of all our abilities cut by 60%. After that most people said screw it, why bother going glass cannon if I can only have the glass without the cannon part? Only thing left was bunker. Then they nerfed that into oblivion to “promote build diversity” The only decent build left is burst build which i’m sure they’ll nerf eventually from all the whining glass thieves who get owned by it cuz they still haven’t learned to play since beta and only know how to stealth and spam 2 over and over, and when they finally kill our 1 remaining decent build i’m just done with this. I have no faith in them to fix the class at this point back to its former glory. they never should have touched it in beta it was fine the way it was back then and needed no changes.
once again, quoted for truth
third time…
there’s still viable tanky and sustain dmg builds. Burst is great but its by far not the only viable choice. Do some more research in heart of the mists with y’r traits. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with.
I’m pretty sure glyph of elemental power is the least used stunbreaker there is.
So it needs a buff or change.
My suggestion/solution:
let glyph of elemental power give you an aura based on your atunement.
Question 1:
Would you use this skill if this change was made
Question 2:
Specifics, how would you change/buff this skill specifically. Would it still let your skills do condi dmg or replace it with auras all together?
DON’T GIVE IN TO THE TROLLS!
We’re fine as is. I don’t want to see more changes now that I finally got used to the most recent balance changes. You’re the troll, troll. I’d love to see a video of your “fine” elementalist in current wvw. Until then, you are just trolling.
I wanted to do that but didn’t want to wait 500 minutes till the video was uploaded…
If you know how to compress videos for youtube please pm me.
Here’sLykeles Flarefist
Wish they would allow the hide option for the chestpiece, so that he would go barechested kicking some kitten
try the winged chestpiece ( or feathered ) there was one that reveals part of the chest but it looks somewhat gay.
pretty decent. But I’d drop 15 from fire into air and 15 from earth and into water and arcane. More crit chance, damage and healing + you get decent atunement recharge. versus less armor, condi and power but if you’re going crit+crit damage you don’t need the conditions.
focus skills just need to actually do damage.
in pve bossfights half your focus skills are rendered useless.
let glyph of elemental power give us auras corresponding with the element we’re in.
Then I’d be happy.
spvp go intire matches without getting killed, I can still run away from fights and can still get kills easy.
WvW bursting down warriors aoe with S/D fire burst easy.
Arah dungeon: being the last man standing destroying the mobs that killed my party while doing the most damage out of all of ’m. (there was a warrior, guardian and mesmer).
Only moment I notice game imbalance is when 2+ thieves ambush me in wvw. Besides that I’m fine with almost anything.
DON’T GIVE IN TO THE TROLLS!
We’re fine as is. I don’t want to see more changes now that I finally got used to the most recent balance changes.
max out chill duration and get the trait that gives you regen and cleanses you when getting regen for mistform, signet of water and frostbow.
Now you have a passive condi removal and 3 active ones, a looooong chill, an invulnerability spell and a conjured weapon that can give even more chill, some vulnerability, decent aoe dmg and the no. 5 freeze skill.
That’s what I enjoy playing in pve nowadays on my zerker ele when I don’t wanna run triple cantrips.
air-arcane can do amazing damage on a single target in pve.
traits 20% more dmg to knocked down foes, sigil +10% dmg to knocked down foes.
Full on crit-dmg should be able to burst around 10k easy.
The auto-attack does do a ton of damage near the end of its cast. Have had it do up to 4k dmg easy.
I really like conjured weapons. Dropping down some weapons on the battlefield then swap between elements and conjured weapons for whatever skills you need to respond to the current situation. Its not the current meta build but that doesn’t mean its not fun to play around with because it most certainly is.
That’s why I primarily focus on water and air traits while my boon (might-stacking) burst is in earth and fire thus swapping between all 4 atunements will always be useful.
Elementalist have decent healing and decent dps (all else we have is well below average)
So to work to our strenghts I have berserker armor with ruby orbs and clerics/apothecary trinkets for healing power and support with boons and lots of small heals and debuffs to enemies that come natural with the class.
Make sure to use your blast finishers in your firefields while near your opponnent to give your ally melee classes more dps.
S/D is king in pve, D/D is easier and Staff and focus are situational.
I use a build based around air, water and arcana with air as its main focus. You can pick all of the damage boost traits that water and air provide but going a bit more healing/condi removal in the water traits might be of greater use if you’re going support.
If you meet a good thief; y’r dead
If you meet a good engineer: y’r dead
If you meet a good necromancer: y’r dead
If you meet a good warrior: y’r dead
If you meet a good Guardian: ’y’r dead’
If you meet a good ranger who hasn’t even equiped any traits: RUN!!! or die…
Good mesmers can be tough but once you get down to their light armor and they’ve burned through their healing and condi removal they’re easy. (do dodge the shatters)
If you fight against more than 1 at a time you die the moment your mistform runs out.
We can’t run away from any fights anymore. I’ve tried with everything I had (including FGS, lightning flash, Mistform….)
End of the day:
We only win against noobs and only in a 1v1 we lose in every other fight always with no option of running away; all we can do is die.
