Well somewhere I would like something to help a guardian to deal with only having burning as condition either having some bleeds just to cover it or having a trait that deals about 50% remaining damage when burning expires early
And off topic I want a reason to use torch 5 maybe a fire field that burns and removes condi instead.
and they really need to improve pathing on torch 4 seems to live it own life :/
Dragonhunter traitline has two covering conditions. Cripple on Justice passive and Vulnerability when you cripple someone. Besides that we have slow on trap elite and some blinds and immobilizes but I think that’s it.
Runes of the Flame Legion, Runes of Fire, Runes of Balthazar.
Any of these would be better.
I use the same sigils but I also use the dragonhunter traitline as the bow symbol also does burning dmg.
DH-trap guardian is OP
As for condi builds; have fiddled with ‘m over the past week. They’re fun!!! but completely unusable against engineers with their massive passive condi removal…
It is rock-paper-scizzors against those sorts of matchups.
Now switched to a heal-sustain build. Burst thieves get burst back while my hp goes up to 100% consistently even against berserk warriors.
I just use hammer and staff.
Hammer for bosses with 100% aoe protection uptime and staff for the mobs that ya don’t want to target one by one.
healing skill; improved f2; heal on dodge; heal on giving allies boons; heals on symbols; elite signet; sigil of renewal; mace – Shield. Skills all either block or heal so…
You want more heals?
pvp and realize how fast you could’ve leveled if you had just done pvp in the first place.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFEQJArYhcMKc24woBdEBEACpkhDUYwoZFX/F-e
This’d be better but even then I’d swap out to either D/F, D/D or Staff.
Scepter only works for condi and fresh air.
I still think thieves and mesmers are OP in pvp though…
I would agree if viewed from the perspective of dueling or 1v1, but in other facets of the game, they get pegged into niche roles where we don’t.
interesting… never looked at it like that.
I just figured GS for mesmer at long range and thieves can pick off low hp ones easily in team fights.
I basically only use zerker amulet while running staff so I’m not sure what you mean with lack of dps… Even in a 1v2 I still have about a 50% of winning…
At release the elementalist became OP once people learned how to use all of the skills.
Then because of the QQ from our victims in wvw we were nerfed to the ground.
I’ve been playing elementalist exclusively ever since I started with gw1 but it was so bad that I just couldn’t play elementalist any longer so I started playing other classes. Until the April 2014 patch after which the elementalist became a force to be reckoned rather than just another free-kill.
Ever since then we’ve been nerfed and buffed slightly to a point where I’d say we are quite well balanced versus other professions. I still think thieves and mesmers are OP in pvp though…
Have a few questions for the pvp if anyone can answer some its appreciated
Elementalists: I found myself in a match with one who was taking damage but their hp bar never moved. Conditions could not be applied to him even though they were cast every few seconds (playing a scepter necro). The fight lasted about 45 seconds before i was killed, he still had 100% hp at the end of it with 0 conditions
Can anyone explain to me how they are able to do this?A: Elementalist with decent healing power can keep his hp above 90% near constantly which in turn keeps him invulnerable from conditions if he gets a certain grandmaster trait in earth.
Engineers: Every now and then i come across the turret engi’s and i find myself getting spammed with knockdowns by them non stop, does anyone know how many knockdown skills they can posses in 1 build?
A: It depends. If he uses all turrets and you count CC per exploding turret + weaponskills and dropping the supply drop as a CC I would say around 10… But real active CC at its max would be more like 6-7
Cheese builds: Last time i played the cheese builds were signet warriors, minion necro’s, turret engis, spirit hunters. Are these still some of the strongest builds in pvp or have they been balanced out? (last time i played was about a year ago?)
Signet warriors… not sure, Minion necro’s… not really, turret engis yup, spirit rangers… possibly but they have better options now.
Spawn Camping: Does anet plan on ever implementing something to prevent this?
A: I’m not A-net but if you let yourself get spawn-camped it just means that you or your team are bad.
CC spam: Does anet ever plan on balancing it out or is this game to going to remain a cc spam fest in pvp?
A: in fact it will get worse because stability will end up being stacks of stability instead of a duration.
Again any response to any of the questions is appreciated
I’d prefer 2v2’s
why not an amulet where you can pick and choose how much you want of each stat?
met a warrior in wvw the other day who ran faster than I could shoot ’m… That 1500 range that you keep saying is OP is only as such when it is long range. Most professions have a bunch of gapclosers that can easily cover 1500 range.
I use ranger for the hilt bash. I just love the animation.
I want to try 06026 with d/f and lighting rod , i don’t know if it is better with berserker or celestial …
I’ll save you a little trouble: this won’t work. D/F tries to take advantage of the synergy between shocking aura + the two interrupts on focus and lightning rod, but it just fails. This is because with dagger MH you are in melee range, and thus need to be tanky enough to stay in the fight, forcing you to take something like celestial, soldiers, or valkyries. However, with any of those amulets you barely do more damage than a d/d cele ele while having way less sustain. If you try to go berserker, I don’t think its necessary to explain why the existence of the thief class makes that unviable.
In the end you give up way too much team support and defense going 6 into air, and gain very little offense comparatively.
The only place lightning rod works for me in pvp-like situations is actually on staff (which has 3 interrupts – air 3, air 5, and earth 4). Staying at range allows you to build more dps-oriented. This actually works best in wvw as you aren’t forced into very set amulets, and its easier to get help and protection from thieves. In pvp, going zerker once again has the thief problem who instantly teleport and against whom range means nothing.
uhm… my usual build is D/F zerker elementalist… It works quite fine for me but I got bored of it too. Am now a Staff ele
I don’t see what the big fuss is. Elementalist is still not OP…
my ranger 1/3 complete exotic armor sets. I collect shinies
now how many viable ele build without canrips?…none
There is one… but I’m not sharing
dude noone cares about a mr. nobody and his/her non-existent (and probably crap) build.
Most of the time the viability of a build depends on how you use it. There are builds that you can use that don’t have cantrips they just run differently.
But I really do want to see signets becoming more viable.
Necromancers don’t have any access to stunbreakers while in deathshroud.
Longbow Rangers are broken. Please balance the class. Thanks. 1500 range + with massive burst, evades and stealth + immobi =not fun. Less cheese please. Decided to make one myself and roam in WvW. 8 hours later I’d had so many servings of cheese I had to stop.
Time for a change.
It isn’t broken, it was broken and it got fixed :p
To someone who said elementalists can not live without triple cantrips, I say it’s also equally rare to see mesmers without blink and decoy, warriors without shouts or stance, thieves without shadowstep and signets, or engi without grenades and toolkit, ranger without lightning reflex and all that jazz.
Yep. It’s not only the Elementalist that “has to” use specific skills to be viable in PVP.
How many Warriors out there not using Berserker Stance? How many Mesmers not using Decoy/Blink? How many Engies without Toolkit? etc etc
Saying that only Eles “need” to use Cantrips while all other professions can use all their skills is completely false.
I was using a Staff dps build, in a good organized team it’s pretty good way of doing massive damage, sure you die a lot if you are isolated, but the key to the build is to stay with your team and support them with hard hitting AOE skills.
Shoutbow warriors don’t use stances, turret engi don’t use toolkit, phantasm Mesmer don’t have both dercoy and blink…now how many viable ele build without canrips?…none
There is one… but I’m not sharing
This’ll come in handy. Was thinking of doing some basic combat vids for gw2.
There has been a steady flow of new people in gw2 who don’t even know that you can dodge and pull of combos.
+ my guildies should be taught how to pvp in preperation of the guildvguild fighting
What about the “new” Rifle/GS build ?
I use Rifle/hammer build. I like the extra CC.
Generally use one banner and 2 stances or dolyak signet and 2 stances.
So I decided to use a celestial build for necromancer just for fun but it turned out quite well result wise but I don’t understand the build myself…
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQNArYWn0ISnNWbDG3A7NmAXom6Jg+NDg7l6tIM+CA-TJBFAByt/AUlBA4MAo8jAAA
Could you try it out and tell me how it works for you?
Dodge also works to give regen to allies and yourself, getting hit heals you, dishing out condi dmg heals you, you can return conditions to foes quite easily, swapping in and out of DS will give you stability for stomping etc.
the spectral skills are what gives you the life force to be able to use DS in the first place.
Runes of traveller gives you some much needed mobility. Wouldn’t dare run without it.
Do any of you use scepter 2 and/or dagger 5?
I tried out a strange celestial necromancer build in pvp.
It actually worked but I have no idea how.
6 matches, 6 wins, 5 deaths and average of 5 kills per match.
It isn’t amazing in any aspect besides the aspect of returning conditions to the caster.
AoE dmg is also quite good.
As an example:
We had close, it was a 4v4 at far and I was in a 1v1 against a bunker guardian at mid.
After 1 minute long skirmish I beat the guardian with 90% hp left and near full life-force. Then I ran to the 4v4 and within 2 seconds downed 3 of ’m.
but as I told you before I have no idea how it happened, I was just face-rolling my keyboard.
It is important as an elementalist to give more offensive support. You do this by applying pressure with dps and CC. The CC however must be found and used in other atunements besides your primary dps atunement (fire of staff and air on dagger and scepter mainhand) Your off-hand will only augment what you do. Dagger off-hand = mobility and focus offhand = survivability.
do any of the necromancer weaponskills have insta-cast?
I agree
I play all professions and have mastered them somewhat (besides the mesmer).
Necromancer used to be awesome to play because people didn’t only run away due to the fear condition but also because they feared me
Played necro last week and was stunned for 20 seconds straight every time I respawned (was still alive though) but wasn’t able to do anything in retaliation.
Sure I had tens of thousands of hp (including life-force) but not being able to move, run, heal, attack or anything at all does not make it that fun to play :/
Am currently working on new necromancer builds that are pvp-viable which forces me to use foot in the grave trait for stability. Can’t even get a proper stomp off without it after all.
SO i haven’t played Guild Wars 2 in over a year, but i used to roll Elementalist, despite it being the weakest class in PvP and being Mediocre in PvE.
Has anything changed for Elementalist this past year?
Seems like Thieves got nerfed pretty hard as i googled up some QQ threads, otherwise i think most classes became better?
Not sure, how is elementalist now in PvP and PvE?
Indeed 1 year ago I also gave up on elementalist for several months but around the April-May patch the elementalist became viable again. Since August we’ve had a couple small nerfs but nothing that completely invalidated the class.
Thieves got nerfed but are still a force to be reckoned with.
Rangers got buffed and are now finnaly a force you’d rather have with you than against you.
Warriors got nerfed, still needs some tweeks but are generally quite good.
Engineer turrets got improved making it a viable and fun profession.
That is about all that I really know.
I really like my staff ele build but if too many use it the effectiveness is reduced so I can’t share it with you :/ sorry
In my opinion: Sylvari has better light armor
frost bow I would say yes but only for the skill no. 3, 4 and 5.
Fiery Greatsword used to be very viable but not so much anymore.
arcane swordsmen would be cool
adding arcane power to your elemental attacks or something.
there are many builds that work well. I am currently running a zerker rifle build.
04046 in pvp. I usually get killstreaks of 10+ and die maybe once every other game. Its quite good for zerker amulet+runes of pirate+sigil of fire and air.Unique build I guess. Never met someone playing this successfully
I could pm you the specifics.

anything with dagger offhand and a healing skill has access to stealth. any thief with a shortbow has as great a mobility as initiative can carry them.
Thief has the most access to blinds too with a pistol off-hand. D/P also has access to stealth and is still quite mobile. Swiftness and might on dodge plus teleport to enemy with signet or sword or steal or jump towards enemy with dagger 2 or 3.
Thieves have a plethera of gap-closers that will nullify any attempt you do at moving around to avoid damage.
:o rifle thief
that is very very exciting
it is indeed not the stealth that makes the thief a bugger but their mobility.
A good thief can stay out of range indefinately even without stealth and teleport in and out for big burst damage and all that without cooldowns.
But if it was just that it wouldn’t be so annoying.
What is most annoying is a thief/mesmer combination. Especially when it is a PU mesmer.
They do not only teleport, they stealth, do huge damage and basically I haven’t been able to see all that they can do because they kill me in seconds.
that’s a thief she wears an anonimity hood which is medium armor.
As summoned weapons we have:
bow
axe
greatsword
shield
hammer
We already had:
staff
dagger
Scepter
focus
this leaves us with:
mace, sword, rifle or pistol.
I am thinking sword but I think the other three would be very interesting too.
For a truly offensive D/F build try this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAodhcMKc24woBd0AGAGpqQ4EQAoHW+MsFCDA-TJBFwAOeAAQLDA4EAMf/BA
Use glyph of elemental power while in fire same for the elite add in the parrot and keep stacking might. (might might also affect your parrot and elite elemental.)
glyph of elemental procs burning which in turn procs blinding.
Im lvl 27, i did like staff as i level but, i heard that d/d is better..
- Rotations for D/D, ex. Earth > Fire > Air > Water.
For pve staff works too. Fire gives most dmg. For D/D its air-1 that gives most damage. In pve that is all you need to know. + the blast finisher rotations (fire-fields and blast ’m in earth and water.)- Current state of Elemen this patch and future? ( how well they do in pvp, pve, etc)
pvp-decent, pve… sometimes really strong but also very squishy in dungeons. WvW. I just like it since its a jack of all trades.- Tips and tricks a D/D should know?
use blast finishers, time your dodges and know thy enemy. If you know what your enemy can and will do its easier to dodge them.- Good youtube videos for d/d.. guides, montages, tips tricks..
02066 or 00266 with evasive arcana and such. Though I still switch to staff zerker from time to time. I think most weaponsets for elementalist are quite balanced at the moment.- Lastly gearing up.. when should i invest for gears and what type of money is it? karma, gold, etc
Only gear up once you reach lvl 80. Only then does it really matter what you do.
I did it in a three step phasing thing.
1st Clerics to learn and get used to all weapon sets and safely complete world completion.
2nd Soldiers for the WvW part of exploration and getting used to dungeonruns.
3rd Zerker for dungeon speed runs. Then at the end you’ll have 3 full exotic armor sets. Remember that you want to take your time with having fun. No need to rush.
So basically the elementalist got nerfed and the thief and warrior got major buffs (mesmer too)
Or to be more precise:
current ele meta will get nerfed
current thief meta will get buffedI already have 90% of my deaths be because of OP thieves and now this…
Goodbye pvp. Don’t think I’ll bring my ele to see you anytime soon.Dude. There will be a nerf to LW abuse and drake’s breath. Drake’s breath needed it, and so did LW. Will this change anything regarding how efficient the ele is? Nope.
I might have overreacted…
Still now that I play thief I don’t mind dying because I see it as a revenge for all the times that I’ve been killed by a thief (90% of all my deaths are due to thieves remaining 10% due to enemy zerg)
Sure elementalist is hard but only until you learn to understand each of the skills available to you. Learning a new weapon set takes way more time with elementalist than any other profession but once you do it is a lot of fun.
Though the effort vs. reward is kinda askew compared to the other professions which you can be decent at within a mere 50 hours of gameplay.
training my thief gameplay now :p
I heard that lightning whip will actually be a buff… I’ll have to wait and see as a fellow D/F ele I am also concerned but since most of my damage was due to might stacks I am no doubt getting nerfed with these changes to might so it doesn’t matter that much…
