shield is decent for both but often you will find that there are other better off-hands.
But if you like having cc try combining it with a mace and hammer for either profession
its alot of fun but you’ll take a hit to the dps output.
Just level all the classes up lvl 30 unlocking all the weapon skills. Won’t take more than a couple weeks but attleast you’ll:
1. understand all the classes better (great for pvp and wvw)
2. Be sure of your new primary choice.
if you don’t feel like doing that just watch videos of each class’s build on youtube. That’ll give you a good idea of what the classes can do.
guardian:
GS and Sword/Focus. Will give you 2 low cooldown gapclosers and some ranged with the off-hand focus.
try ranger
With all the experience you have with warior a close combat ranger would be a good choice.
Once I finish my PVT gear I’ll go D/F and show you what a real bunker ele can do.
Currently I am that D/D full cleric healer guy but since the last two patches I’ve found that in some situations the D/D cleric build won’t get me through. Problem is that none of the other options I tried so far work either.
student-shoulders (transmuted ofcourse), HotW chest, student leggings (transmuted) and try to find a good looking hat or something.
For the cause of making more elementalist builds viable please state your suggestions below.
I myself would like to see the cast time of signets and glyphs to go down a bit (50% maybe?)
I’m excited about the recent changes to the elementalist because it has made other types of builds more viable. Its still hard to play and the cast times on glyphs and signets still prevent me from using them too much (only when I have staff or scepter equiped).
I main ele and am just buying different armor sets. Now I have clerics, rampager and berserker + lots of accessories and weapons. Its still a bother to have to adjust traits skills and armor just to do a different build.
The RTL distance nerf does prevent some of the jumps I used to make in some jp but to be honest it was kinda op… kinda like the portal of mesmers in jumping puzzles
They recently threw a huge nerf towards pvp bunker healer builds. It is still viable in PvE though.
So for a fairly rounded player healing support/CC I’d go for the scepter+any. Focus for more CC and dagger for more burst dps and 1 more good heal. Play around with the traits a bit and go for any armor combination you’d like. It all depends on your preferences and such. Rampager works great with scepter earth 1 and an air-burst/arcana build works great with scepter/dagger since you can down playes with one rotation.
never used mistform anyways :p
My ele has three looks with more to come still buying more staves, daggers and am saving up for my next set of armor. It’ll be PVT probably from the HotW dungeon.
I think mesmers and thieves are stronger then D/D elementalists. Saw one thief and one mesmer just stand infront of our servers entrance in WvW and they beat everyone that came for them for well over 30 minutes they fought 8+ players without dying… In that situation an elementalist could only run away.
What you could do in a zerg is stay behind the lines and then just pick a weak looking target and burst ‘m down with arcana and stuff. I’ve got a zerker set-up too and even when I don’t trait completely towards it I still do very decent damage. I die in 4 hits but I tend to do 4 times more damage then when I use my cleric set-up.
I am a lvl 80 elementalist and I got all weapons and gear. Basically you need to prepare for any type of battle you’re gonna expect. In some dungeon instances the scepter-focus is the best choice, in keep battles its the staff. For wvw roaming its D/D and for general PvE content the S/D would probably be the best choice.
As for the stats/gear you choose should depend on your teammates. I often go full support D/D with 1k healing power when I team up with a team of glass cannons and I gear to rampager with S/F for dungeons where we have attleast one support oriented ally already. In WvW when I want to burst people down quickly without any regards to my life I go S/D full berserker with arcana slot-skills.
Learn to play and adapt, think outside the box before you start bickering about whats in the box.
I used to be all healer then I went for condition damage and burst and though condition damage works the burst is beast. but the condition damage is easier to combine with survivability making it viable for wvwvw.
y’r all doing it wrong…
use sword-axe for flurry(immobilize)+whirling axe. sword 2 is gap closer get some bull rush or something and greatsword no. 5 rush. You don’t even need a speedbuff.
Also the signet of rage gives decent swiftness for a long period of time. so you don’t need the passive speedbuff.
with low health and armor I guess you have either one of two choices if you want to survive long enough to deal any damage:
damage mitigation
healing
damage mitigation can be done with certain skills or dodge-rolling.
healing has to be geared and traited towards but will end up lowering your offensive abilities.
so I guess all we elementalists will eventually come to the conclusion that damage mitigation is better than healing and once we get skillful enough we’ll do just that.
rampager gear, undead runes, scepter/focus add some more might-stacking traits and y’r set.
so basically the elementalist is tanky so hard to kill and when you guys try to kill it and fail because he runs away you say he’s op….
Why is this a wrong way of thinking? Well for one he ran away because you were about to kill him even though he has the tankiest build the elementalist can have.
so your conclusion: lets nerf his tankiness and remove mobility.
So I was tired of the usual D/D aura-share healer cantrip set-up and thought I’d try and go for some condition damage.
So I got full rampager gear with runes of the undead.
Scepter/Focus for that little bit of survivability/damage mitigation.
But I don’t know what I should choose for utility skills or healing skill.
Anybody know what works best?
equip cantrips and use the fire (10) trait that gives 3 stacks of might when triggering a cantrip but I prefer using a glyph build when going staff. Get the trait that gives you boons when using glyphs.
trident earth 5 – water 3(doubletap) will give area stealth
why not go for the full 30 in fire for pyromancers puisance then 10 air, 10 earth (or more if you want the signet traits) and anything you got left in arcana.
choose berserker or rampager gear and get scepter focus.
y’r survivability isn’t that good but its not the main goal in this build anyways.
focus in off-hand and use fiery aura or get the traits that give you fiery aura when you use a signet… and then there is the fire combo fields.
just get a tad bit of vitality enough to boost your hp by 1-2k that way you’ll have a little extra time to cast vital cantrips or RTL the hell away.
Lots of bosses do 12kish dmg so if you don’t put just that little bit of extra vitality in you’ll find yourself in a tight spot.
I’m a D/D ele with 1100 healing power and I can take on champions solo. Not the champion frog queen or risen giant champion though
.
able to do 4k healing + regen + auras + protection boon + all sorts of other boons in just a couple seconds while still doing ok dmg.
In most battles I am able to upkeep my health at 100% and I don’t lose any 1v1 duels in wvwvw.
0 10 10 30 20
More protection for allies when using aura share
This is what I use too. A variation would be 10-10-0-30-20 for might on cantrip usage or 0-20-0-30-20 for the lightning strike on air atune and bolt to the heart or something.
D/D full cleric armor boonduration runes healing power based build with lots of atunement swapping and such. Will stack 5ish boons on you and allies+unique auras+lots and lots of heals.
D/D ele won’t get me kills in wvw. Only in sieges do you find alot of enemies and that is when the staff shines with all the aoe spells you can cast on the wall. I only just started doing wvw seriously though.
Elementalist has light armor and lowest base health in game. We need to go full on on healing power if we want to last as long as the other classes do. Neither do we have stealth, death-shroud or lots of aegis boon procs.
No, but we have procs for vigor, (100% endurance regen) which can be up at all times giving us nearly bottomless dodges. Dodge is the best defensive move in the game. Our dodge also procs all kinds of effects in addition that are both offensive and defensive.
True we can dodge a bit more than other classes.
Add to that evasiva arcana which turns our defensive moves into heals or offensive moves.
Plus Signet of restoration changes all our attacks into heals.
Plus swapping atunements when traited can give you and your allies buffs, heals and do damage to foes.
So I guess that is why elementalists are called versatile.

we elementalists are light-armor and already fully specced into survivability and still we get almost one-shot by you guys. I run a toughness/healing build and hit like a wet noodle. Add to that almost perma regen and protection and still I get burst by thieves. I dodge, block, aoe etc. Even equiped a focus in my off-hand and mistform in utility to survive just those few more seconds. Result I get killed before I even see the thief 5 times in 2 minutes. Ow and blind I used that too.
so in pvp I die then I see a thief appear… 5 times in 2 minutes. Add to that the fact that I’m supposed to be a ‘bunker’-ele. in 3 games I never got perma-stealth thieves down to even half-health but I got killed in 2-5 seconds flat.
Your stealth allows you to go full glass cannon which is OP to the max. You even get medium armor.
This build is terrible. How can this build offer good assist when you are dead pretty much all the time? You should go d/d, that’s our only viable weapons in spvp.
How cute. There is one build that has been refined and suddenly its the only possible weapon set-up for the elementalists even though its been constantly nerfed and the focus has been buffed, rebuffed etc.
Sure you can run away from a 5v1 but with a focus-bunker set up you can walk away just as good or for the very daring you can stay and fight.side-note:
I posted on your video and since I’ve been there done that I gave some hints as to how to make this build better.
Also in pvp when you go mainhand dagger you need the cantrips. If you are going for a signet build try and use ‘m when you’re ranged and get the earth 30 instead of water 30 that allows your signets to keep their passives (basically doubles your signet of healing) Also you can do signet recharge -20% etc.I’ve only run with a condition-signet-bunker build in wvw and on the first try my D/D instinct told me to run away and while running away (walking) I accidentally killed one of ’m.. somehow when I jumped off a ledge and he followed it was enough to get him killed…
And timelord I didn’t mean it offensive and I might have mis-read what you wrote but be happy there are more possibilities for elementalists than you can imagine

play necro and tell me what you think of the boon stripping skill
an elementalist using only one element is the same as a warior only using a mace and no off-hand weapon. Traiting only for the mace and saying that the class sucks because I lack the skill to hit all the monsters in the vicinity with skill number 2.
It is possible to do close combat in dungeons as an elementalist. Its just very dangerous and you gotta dodge and CC as much as possible.
with healing rain and the trait that removes a condition every time you grant regeneration you’ll do way more than a healing warior ever could. Plus if you go D/D with aura-share you can share shocking aura and frost aura. Shocking aura stuns enemies and frost aura reduces 10% dmg. Add protection to aura and its even more damage reduction. I don’t see any other class reliably giving protection, healing, swiftness, regen, condition removal to allies all in one build. Plus add to that that the healing build of the elementalist is one of the only viable elementalist builds… Can’t say that about the warior healing build.
I have full cleric’s armor and some magi accessories. Since we have sooo many burns and bleeds.
I’m trying to go all balanced on my stats (except for healing power, max that out) and use everything our class has to offer.
As a staff healer ele with 1200 healing power (which almost doubles some of your healing skills) you’ll be able to keep your allies health up pretty good in dungeons.
Elementalists are forced into going all out defensive so obviously they’re the hardest to kill but if elementalists don’t go all out defensive they get 1-hit killed in most boss-fights or they get killed first when zergs clash.
We are hard to kill for a reason. Because we go all-out on healing toughness and some vitality.
I was really happy to finaly lvl my charr warior to lvl 80 and buy some exotic gear only to see that my intire back is clipping the armor.. There’s hair sticking out of my armor…
I don’t know what y’r fussing about, ya’ll just look amazing! I love how the sylvari cultural armor actually blends in with the characters themselves.
My primary was a human elementalist in gw1 so I continued the saga as a human elementalist in gw2. Now that I have been trying out alts I just can’t get enough of Sylvari and wish I had made a sylvari elementalist instead… I guess a sylvari necro and guardian should do…
Ventari the centaur did not mean that you should not prevent a plague of bugs or cut down trees for wood when he wrote that all things have a right to grow. It is more of a verse that states that all sentients are equal. Neither Centaur nor Ogre is better than the other. It is just worded a little more plant like.
Wariors are better at stacking 25 bleeds. Only requires 2 skills, 1 trait and 50% crit to pull it off too.
And it would be melee, whereas this is ranged. Don’t compare apples to oranges.
good point it is ranged.
Which ends up giving me an idea for a quickness rifle warior… But I think this is the wrong place to talk about that.
I do like the scepter earth skill one. It got me through all of Harathi hinterlands.
Hello,
I’m a healing D/D elementalist and I tend to use Avatar of Melandru as a means to support my allies and root my enemies. The problem I’m having is that it has VERY long cast times. Most of the time I can barely use 3 skills while I’m in this form.
I just wish the cast times would be cut down by 25% or something. Standing still while casting in itself is already a big no-no for a light armored elementalist.
What are your thoughts? Do you think it needs a fix or do you think its fine as it is? Do you use it and when?
thanks.
S/D is for killing staff crazy fast at medium to close range.
S/F is for surviving against 5 wvw players indefinite when played correctly.
Staff is great for dungeon support.
D/D is Aang the last airbender on steroids.
D/F is…. I don’t know. Haven’t tried it yet.
never thought about it as a wvw build the 900 range and mostly single target dps would hinder its usefulness in wvw, but if u were set on running it it would do ok, try running with a good necro as you can easily stack 25 bleeds on someone faster then anyone in the game, let them epidemic it and watch the zerg bleed out. Other than that i wouldnt recommend this as a solo wvw player.
