Whine more Swizzle?
I’m not whining at all, I think it’s pretty funny. But clearly they don’t test stuff, not adequately anyway. This certainly isn’t the first time this has happened, I doubt it’ll be the last.
Because Anet thoroughly test new content?
Is that the right answer?
No..?
It is. And Anet have no excuse for it at all, they should have learnt this from GW1.
I remember playing ritualist in gw1, it was ok, I guess comparable to the engineer for a long time, pretty underused not really desired for anything in pve. Then they started splitting pve/pvp skills and actually made the ritualist FUN. Summoning tons of spirits with SoS, teleporting them about with summon spirits. That was fun, it was powerful too. But the point of pve, in my view the point of any video game, is to have fun. You shouldn’t be kitten in pve just because of some other game mode you might not even play.
And then there were all the pve only skills. GW2s racial skills are crap in comparison, when they should be fun. Look at the golem suit asura skill, it’s garbage, it actually makes you weaker. Compare that to GW1 pve only skills, like pain inverter, summon ruby djinn or vanguard assassin support, those were fun skills to use, powerful but I don’t think they were completely unbalanced.
In GW2, my only hope for each new patch is that the class I play (engineer) hasn’t been nerfed again. These aren’t nerfs because the engi is op in pve, in pve the engi is pretty kitten useless, most other classes can do things better. These are nerfs because of pvp, a game mode I have no interest in at all. Sure, pvp should be balanced too, but these are very separate game modes and need to be treated as such.
In GW1, putting pain inverter in pvp would have been insane, but why is it any less insane the other way around, nerfing pve just because of some build designed for pvp?
Because anything the engineer can do, someone else can do better.
This, a million times. I love engineer, no other class is as fun to play as engineers are. But yes, everything we can do is done better by at least one other class. And being able to do all those things isn’t really any comfort, when you can only do them to a mediocre degree.
If the engineer class was simply removed tomorrow I don’t think anyone but the engineers would notice. It would have no impact on anything at all, and that’s a sad thing.
I worked as a professional editor for many years. After five people have completed edited a book multiple times, there are still mistakes that go to print.
Then you obviously weren’t that professional. Besides, the issues in GW2 are often glaringly obvious, you can’t compare them to typos. There are bugs in GW2 that are instantly identifiable by players, and there is no reason on earth why they could have been overlooked by testers, unless they weren’t tested at all. There will always be little things, sure. But when people begin to doubt that any testing at all was done then something is seriously going wrong.
It’s also not only about testing and bugs. I think Anet are quite aware of many of the problems, many have been there since launch after all, they just haven’t done anything about them. And that’s really typical Anet from what I’ve seen. Nightfall was released in 2006 for GW1, and as far as I know the paragon is still massively broken. That was six years (till GW2) of a broken class, that was never fixed.
The fact is, if all they focus on is nerfing or buffing something in relation to the new fotm, then they will never actually balance the game. And many of the general things that need to be fixed will never actually be fixed, because the team is just trying to play whack-a-mole with the next overpowered pvp build players have found.
But testing the last instance and cashing in a token is completely different from balance changes.
I never said it wasn’t. However this was an example of something in the game that was clearly not tested. There have also been skill changes that have been changed back after supposedly being “fixed”. There’s still a massive list of bugged skills for every class out there.
And you’re arguing that Anet test stuff, thoroughly? Get real.
So you have evidence they don’t test them?
When they added the pact weapons for finishing story mode, they put the guy who traded them behind a door that would not open. It took them two days to fix it.
Now had they tested that, by having someone try and go to get a weapon, they would realise the door didn’t open.
To me that suggests the addition wasn’t tested.
Can’t we all just shut up and adapt?
People say these changes are taking away builds, but I’m wondering if they haven’t done this on a test server and seen more builds emerge from it.
Surely people realize that Anet does have a test server.
That’s right. Anet are well known for testing any changes or additions to the game prior to adding them, and that’s why every patch is always of the very highest quality, with no glaringly obvious problems that any idiot could have identified within seconds.
Meanwhile, back in the real world…
Anet suck at balance.
Sure, it’s not an easy thing to get right, with pve and pvp. But there are so many small things, things they should have known in advance that weren’t done. They don’t learn from any of their mistakes, even after making builds a ton simpler than they were in GW1.
From release there should have been a pve/pvp split for most skills. GW1 should have shown them this, what works in pvp does not work in pve, and vice versa. Only now, months after release are they starting to do this, after already doing quite a bit of damage trying to make skills work in both.
There are things like engineer turrets, which have been useless since beta. They are pets that don’t move, the obvious advantage that they should have is massive amounts of health. That would pretty much fix them. Such an easy thing, but it’s probably never going to happen, so engineers will be stuck with useless skills. It would also give the engineer back its originally intended role of an area denial class. Which highlights the problem of class roles, several classes don’t have them, or are playing second fiddle to another class which can do it better, or they have roles which are simply not required in pve/pvp situations.
If you want to know how this game will turn out, just look at GW1. Best you can hope for is that your profession doesn’t turn out to be the paragon of GW2.
If you don’t want to waste your money on stupid RNG boxes then maybe, I dunno… DON’T BUY THEM?
The more stupid people we have spending a weeks wages on RNG kitten, the more RNG kitten Anet are going to add.
Turrets at level 80 will look exactly like turrets at level 1.
Such a shame, it would be great if they added turret skin packs, maybe based on each of the races, with asura style turrets, plant turrets, maybe some sort of totems for the norn.
I know quite a few casuals who are grateful they didn’t have to beg for a group before trying this. And, if this lasts a week or so, the chances of getting group thins quite a bit.
That’s great, I’m glad it works for those people. However There’s no reason they couldn’t have had it both ways.
You keep trying to make out that this is just one insignificant thing, to many people it isn’t, and rightly so. The game is an MMO, and one of the most basic MMO functionalities of partying, that is PLAYING WITH FRIENDS, is missing. That’s not a small thing at all. Yes it’s one event. And that’s one event too many.
I’m also pretty kitten sure it wasn’t made like this to please casuals. “technical limitations and time constraints” are the reasons Anet gave. It’s also not as if this is one mistake in an otherwise flawless game, there are a lot of problems with GW2. Playing with your friends is something so central to MMOs that it should never have been gotten so badly wrong, not even in a single event.
Again, it’s ONE event.
It doesn’t matter if it’s one event or 50 really, the point is that this is something that should never have made it anywhere near as far as being added to the game in the state it’s in.
This is also the game’s forum, if people are disappointed with some aspect of the game, this is the place they have to share that. Or are the Anet staff all telepathic?
Seems so. I think it’s more for the unique skin than the stats.
For God’s sake, it’s not THAT hard of an achievement.
The achievement doesn’t really matter, it’s not the main issue. The problem is that this is an MMO which is forcing people to play with random strangers and not their friends and guild mates, which for many people is the whole point of playing an MMO.
This is a PvE instance, there is no reason not to allow parties, other than lazy or stupid design, which are not good excuses.
Unfortunately due to technical limitations and time constraints before the holidays, we cannot change it.
“When it’s ready”. Lol.
Utterly useless. Its things like this, including the whole overflows and parties mess which really make gw2 seems like a second rate MMO.
Remember in gw1, where joining your friends in an overflow was as easy as asking the district number and porting there, where you could easily join a friend in any mission or event? Instead we now have this complete mess of people being separated, and now it’s by design, apparently.
So just be patient and constructive, sooner or later engineers will receive their just dues
Do you remember paragons from GW1?
Because I remember them, and I don’t share your optimism.
Ritualist had this problem in GW1, until they added the summon spirits skill. Something like that would work here too, perhaps a turret kit, where one of the skills could port the turrets to your location. A turret kit might actually be able to fix a lot of other problems turrets have.
Paragon was one of my favourite classes in GW1, I’m glad they brought it back.
We’re like improvised hard mode, want a challenge? Take more engineers in the party!
Maybe that’s our new role.
It is still quality balance, because they closed the gap between kits.
That’s not balance. Not only should the engineers skills be balanced with each other, but the engineer should be balanced with other classes. Grenades at least allowed us to do damage in line with other classes, now they’ve been nerfed they are just about as useless as the flamethrower. That’s not balance, making engineers suck at everything, and it’s about as far from quality as you can get.
And if you don’t want to have to clarify yourself, try mentioning the positives
Ok. Well, Im glad Anet put in an option to delete characters. Positive enough for you?
Except if you knew anything about Engies, you’d realize that for the general population of engineers – Grenade Kit is still the best choice. Even after the 30% nerf..
I never said anything to the contrary. I agree, even this gimped version of grenades is still our best kit, that’s pretty pathetic, if you call that quality balance.. well.. okiedoki.
What I meant was that Anet’s fix for the Mortar could be nerfing the grenade kit even more, to the point where the mortar appears ‘useful’, as that would be on par with their usual ingenious methods of ‘fixing’ the engineer.
For PvE the build is easy, you want to go to character select, select your engineer and click delete, then make a warrior.
In before the grenade kit is nerfed even more so that the mortar doesn’t seem useless in comparison.
More quality skill balance by Anet.
No amount of theory crafting changes the fact it was a 30% nerf.
Also condition damage. lol.
I have one that I’d like to sell too but can’t .
Bumping so maybe someone at anet will see it and respond. lol jk xd rotflmao.
I just noticed that the Endless halloween tonics no longer say that they’re account bound, and you can search for them on the TP, and though none are listed there are buy orders.
However I can’t right click to sell it and it doesn’t appear in the list of things I can sell.
Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
I’m very sorry to hear that but honestly, being handicapped means you’re handicapped. This means certain things are either far more difficult or simply impossible. Maybe your brother could ask a blind person how he feels about never even playing a video game? Maybe ask a paraplegic what he thinks of GW2?
But you’re kind of missing the point. Many games do implement colour blind options, they CAN do this.
Your argument isn’t logical. We don’t tell paraplegics to just suck it up and get on with their lives, they have arms after all, they can drag themselves along the floor to get around!
We provide people with things like wheelchairs to help them, we introduce EU legislations that legally require buildings to be constructed with accessibility in mind. Would you suggest we scrap these laws and that physically disabled people should ‘chin up and take responsibility’?
Sure, it’s arenanets game, and they don’t HAVE TO accommodate anyone. But as there is a way of helping colourblind gamers to enjoy their game, with no detriment to anyone else’s game play experience then SHOULD they implement this? I would say so.
I made a thread about this back during the beta events, nothing came of the suggestion then, so its unlikely they’ll do anything now.
It’s a shame, especially now that a lot of games have added colour blind modes and settings. It’s evidently important to companies like valve (TF2’s jarate colourblind options for example), but not arenanet?
I think we have to wait for anet to fix all the bugs they just added. You know, like in every previous patch.
MF is terrible, both in concept and design. The fact that the developers of gw2 not only put it in the game, but continue to believe that it’s a good idea really shows what kind of people they are.
They are not the kinds of people who will make a great mmo.
When it’s ready.*
*Sometime before it’s actually ready and still full of bugs.
I was wondering if anyone knows if the effects of the bifrost apply to clones, do they have the same rainbow footsteps and things? Hopefully they do, otherwise it’s going to be easy to spot which one is the actual mesmer in WvW.
The only videos I can find show eles using it.
Looks like some kind of placeholder that was never finished, it’s movement is odd and it looks like piss.
A lot of that 1% spent a lot of real world money getting those legendaries.
Are you really surprised that anet would want to ‘please’ them by adding in even more expensive kitten for them to buy?
Oh wait, you hadn’t realised that anet are money grubbing liars…
My favourite bit was where we got to press number 2 over and over again. I kinda hope they keep this in for the next 4+ elder dragons. I mean sure they could change it to pressing 3 or even 1, but 2 is in the just the right place that we can keep pressing it with our middle finger comfortably.
I mean, what other game company goes to such lengths in designing a boss encounter, no other game has ever been so easy on my fingers.
Swap server to jade sea for a week. Problem solved.
Is there any way of knowing which servers are what colour? I know its to do with the tiers, but have those changed this week?
I’m on gandara at the moment, and I could just swap to Jade Sea, which I know is red because we’re fighting them. But that’s an FR server, and I’d much prefer an english server..
Basically my question is, does anyone know if Seafarer’s rest is currently red?
I don’t buy the stuff about broken promises and people being disappointed, besides, people are already disappointed. I know I’d much rather hear about their hopes for the game, even if those things may never get put in, or might not be added any time soon. That’s better than this silence.. often they’re not even telling players about half the stuff they are adding or changing, suggesting they’re not just keeping quiet but actively hiding what they’re doing, or at least it can seem that way. That just breeds conspiracies, and you can already see it in threads about magic find or the economy.

Medium armour doesn’t seem to have as much variety as heavy or light, in that I recall some karma merchants selling new heavy/light skins yet the regular padded or leather medium sets. There’s also a more general lack of variety in the design of the medium sets with lots of the trench coat armours being similar in appearance.
You could try getting some of the crafted sets, otherwise its racial or dungeon ones.
I wouldn’t mind if they kept going with the dragons, but they need to make a decent plot and add in some more lore.
An example: as part of the story missions you rescue an asura and his book from some dwarf ruins, which I assumed was the tome of rubicon. Amazing I thought, finally we’ll learn something interesting about the dragons. But no, it was never mentioned at all. Or the time I found a sword made of jormag’s blood and the amazingly interesting story that unfolded into all kinds of unexpected plot twists. Oh wait, no, it just vanished never to be mentioned again.
The dragons aren’t good or bad in themselves as story devices and I don’t mind if they remain the focus. But they need to make whatever story they go with interesting, instead of “Oh look, here’s something amazing, but enough of that, back to trahearne and a plot where nothing you do actually matters in the slightest”.
I remember all the twists and turns of the story in gw1, that was amazing, each section of the story was interesting, each moved logically onto the next, the story unravelled and you learn’t more as you went along. The story of gw2 so far has just been bland, from the start of the game the story is " big enemy bad, you kill enemy " and the only twist that happens is at the very end where you find out that actually, he wasn’t that big at all.
Bad story telling isn’t going to be changed by simply replacing the dragons with some other new villain.
Remember when they said this wouldn’t happen and that people could get straight into the game, because no one likes sitting and spamming ‘LFG’ waiting to have fun?
Liars.
I have an endless tonic, I don’t want it. I know there are people out there who do, and I’d sell it to them if I could.
Really, what a stupid restriction, up there with dungeon tokens being character bound. They changed that though, so maybe someone at anet will realise this restriction is pretty kitten too and change it. But I won’t hold my breath.
These should be made tradable too, I got one after opening ten bags, but I’d much rather have one of the weapons or something. Seems stupid that they’re bound, tot bags are pretty worthless to me now, I don’t have much use for a second endless tonic.
Getting there might be half the fun, the problem is there’s very little to do once you’ve got there.
Once I’ve got 100% in an area why would I ever go back?
They should add more stuff like yakkington from gw1, something to get people to go back and do things in areas they’ve done. Otherwise there really is no point. Sure, I could go do dynamic events in queensdale, redoing events I’ve done before, but why would I when I could do the same in orr with a chance of getting better loot. Not that I do either, I go play games that are fun instead.
The amount of bugs really is ridiculous. It might be an MMO, and some bugs might simply be unavoidable, but I seriously think that many of them would have been found and fixed if any kind of testing had been done.
In my guild we run a game, each new area we go to we bet on how long it’ll take for us to run into the first bug, it’s generally under 3 minutes. It’s very sad.
Yeah, the game is actually letting players have fun and get good items for once, it’s gotta be a bug.
I got mine after opening 10 personalized bags. I don’t care for it though, I’d much rather have the endless tree tonic, seems stupid that it’s account bound.
Having just seen this ‘event’ occur for a second time in game, this time actually in game with the mad king appearing and then being shot back by the priory (rather than a cutscene) all I can say is wow.. Anet are actually just outright lying to hype their game now. One time my kitten
Because Arena Net is trying to give us a Living breath world MMO, In the real world Events happen that you won’t always be around to witness. Events like this Emulate that.
Every year they Drop the ball in New York City on New Years, I don’t get to be there to witness it. I just miss it, I don’t the get epic feeling of the crowd or get to experience any of the things they do if you are there. That’s just life.
Except it’s not really a living breathing world, that’s just the hyperbolic marketing spiel. Dynamic events aren’t one time only, because that would be stupid. I mean take gw1 event finales, they repeated over the course of the day so that everyone could do them, that didn’t make them less special than if they’d occurred only once, it just made them accessible to everyone.
This 5 second cutscene wasn’t epic, and there really is no reason it shouldn’t be shown to everyone entering the dungeon.
Also, I had my fill of ‘experiencing epic crowds’ in the clock tower.
