We already mentioned how you dont have to gate the content to add raids. Use current elite DE’s or 5 man dungeons and just instance them and tune for 10 / 20 person. Reward dungeon tokens or karma, everyones wins.

I’ve seen a lot of raiders not be satisfied by that, though. This topic was discussed a LOT before launch, and has since been. So it just creeps and creeps and then morphs into the usual wow-style raid anyway.

Just because in your experience you’ve had a harder time with it than others shouldn’t keep AN from building that type of content for those who can.

ANet disagrees with you, and have said that they don’t want group size to be a barrier to experience all of GW2’s content (and rewards).

But a guild is just that – a group of like-minded people with interests and abilities similar to your own. So, chances are if you join a guild, they’re going to be of the mindset that it’s ok to plan an online event for 4 hours on Thursday nights.

You can plan things, but when it’s dependent on that many people, something always goes wrong the next week and Joe and John and Jane are missing, and then next week it’s Matt and Bob and Broski, and on and on. Either the kid got sick or there’s a deadline or someone got boyfriend or wife aggro etc etc blarg.

Thats how its been for me in many guilds when I played WoW. Raid night was once a week but something always went wrong, people couldn’t come or someone would start some drama etc etc.

In the PvP guilds, it was always drama. RBG team one poaching from 2, or team leader 2 getting mad at 1 for being given guild lead, or team leader 2 leaving the guild with half the players to start their OWN, and don’t let me get started about the one time with this throwndown between the dominatrixes and the guild leader caught between them and arrrrrrgh.

You’d wrangle out a new team after every crisis, but then a month later they’d drop after yet another guild split or someone would decide that you weren’t allowed to play this one class just because, and etc.

Whereas raid night, it was because the kid ate the dog and had to go to the hospital…

@ all the thief haters – learn to play… I have a thief/Mesmer/Guard/Elly and you can easily get away from thief if your not bad at the game…. There are the exceptions when said thief is good at his class.

I play a mesmer, and have never really worried about any class in WvW, there’s almost always a way to get away if you’re not two-shot.

I’d WvW more if I actually got rewards, but I don’t, and there are skins I’d like to buy. I don’t even know how I’ll complete Quip, since getting tokens is just so stupid slow for me for whatever reason. I hit stuff. I kill folks. But nothing really drops.

Melee is Not "Worth it" With some bosses

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I can’t speak for every class, but melee mesmer pumps out more damage immediately (and stacks vulnerability). It’s why I switch to melee if I’m getting mugged by multiple or hard-hitting ranged mobs, and combine that with shatters for might and debuffs.

I also melee bosses (generally world bosses, I hang back some in dungeons) if I find that they’re not dying fast enough.

No, it’s not harder. That is why raiders are such a small minority, because getting 20 people with various lives and obligations is a pain.

That excuse just doesn’t hold water.

What about bowling leagues? What about poker night? What about going to the movies? They all require planning ahead for what amounts to leisure time with friends – no different here.

As soon as you get out of high school, planning something with 20 friends, let alone every few days/once a week, for several hours, is a pain in the butt. People have jobs, spouses, kids, illnesses, etc.

I’ve been in big raiding guilds and pvp guilds, and it just kept turning into a logistical nightmare after a while as people started getting older and having lives.

They know that listening to haters would mean losing trust of the other 95%.

As a former Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star player, I love what Anet has done to GW2. The messier the combat is, the higher the skill cap, the funner the game gets. Guess most people are too used to Western MMO’s and doing only one thing at a time, results in unable to do easy multitasking like checking your own health bar and heal when needed.

This is probably why they have difficulty adapting, which I figured some players simply could not. Getting DPS or hybrids in WoW and AION to manage their own health (get out of bad, blow a defensive cooldown) or assist in heals was always a major pain.

Usually the first folks to blame the healer when they died from avoidable damage, too!

From what I can see the biggest complaint right now is a lack of end game for PvErs. That is not a little thing, something you can just shrug off and find something else to do. Not if your main interest is PvE. So what other choice do people have other than go and find some other game?

Because expansions never happen? You guys want years’ worth of content in a new release and then freak out when it’s not there. Would you like to pay ANet millions more so they can produce that content, since you magically expect it to manifest from some lost dimension of time and money?

You guys knew what you were getting when you bought the game: an initial release focusing more heavily on the 1-80 experience, with 80+ content coming through free and paid expansions. Everybody said this. Reviewers said it. Beta testers said it. Forums said it. But now it’s like you’re willfully forgetting and refusing to wait, as you were told would happen.

I’m sorry you guys decided to burn through part of the content and then refuse to do any more, but that’s on you guys, and that is not ANet’s fault.

Edit: and before you call me a casual, I’ve put in 1600 hours or so into this game, with 1500 on one character, and I still have plenty of things left to do.

They’re the same folks who do this in every new game. What they need to do is stop doing this, and instead tell WoW that they want their graphics upgraded. That way, us fans of games that are not WoW will stop seeing our devs getting jerked around by fairweather folks who say they want something different but really don’t.

No, it’s not harder. That is why raiders are such a small minority, because getting 20 people with various lives and obligations is a pain. That’s why most games, WoW included, have been moving toward the ten-man system instead. Even ANet saw the problem after its own versions in GW1.

There are a lot of people who would love to raid but either don’t have access to a group of raiders, or don’t like the nasty attitude that raiders get.

ANet said that they don’t want party size to be the barrier between players and content, so they settled on five. Just to amend to my post above – that could almost function as a guild mode as well. If certain content-specific gear drops from a mob, perhaps they only drop it in some sort of “hard mode” if killed a certain way, or without certain abilities (or him using certain abilities). This would give true team-based guilds a skill ceiling to shoot for, and control what the loot table looks like.

Acquiring a skin in GW1 and 2 has never been about the size of your guild, and hopefully they stick to their guns when they said it never will.

You really can’t have it both ways, though. The skins are unnecessary to see other content,

You don’t need it both ways, because you don’t need 20-man raids in GW2. They set a high number of participants that is hard to manage and coordinate, and blocks everyone else from participating just because of that. It’s exclusionary and runs counter to the philosophy that the devs laid out in their manifesto for this game— as they themselves have said.

Right now, any skin is accessible to any party of five, which is not prohibitively difficult to form. Ratcheting up the number of players just so a small minority can feel better about themselves is not fair. Not only that, it diverts resources away from other parts of the game and consumes too many for too few.

At the very least, if ANet introduces that kind of raid, I will not spend another cent on the game, because I won’t contribute to that kind of crap.

When they start locking specific skins and stats behind 20-man raids, yes, that’s a problem that will exclude many people from being able to access it. Not everyone has access to a large raiding group, let alone one that is mellow.

If they introduce 20-mans, I’ll probably just quit MMOs for good, as GW2 was my hope for an MMO that did not build its game around raids (and I have taken them at their word that they would not create big raids). It was annoying in WoW, it gated stuff out of many people’s reach, caused a lot of resentment, and put strain on guilds and friendships.

Mantra Mesmers are as much healers IMO as prot/smite monks in GW1 and atonement priests in WoW. If you’re spamming a mantra over and over to heal, while neutralising enemies attacks from hitting the target, and ripping off conditions, that’s about right.

Could Arenanet be saving some massive, uber entertaining endgame content for release? Sure they could. Will it be too late if they don’t act fast? You’re kitten right it will be.

If they keep the servers open as long as they have GW1’s, I will relish the respite from complaining when said complainers have moved on to the next game that isn’t WoW.

Thought so.

One, most healers in most games cannot single-handedly keep a dungeon group alive, because any game in which healers are not OP requires folks to move out of the bad.

Two, any game where healers are OP results in nerdraging about how healers are OP.

Three: If you want a healer to do that in GW2, then no wonder you’re struggling in this game. That attitude just promotes sloppy gameplay and blame-everyone-but-oneself attitudes.

OP, this is my advice.

Take your time doing everything there is to do in the game, and don’t pay attention to level.

By the time you’re done it ALL, another expansion that focuses on later-level content will come out. ANet focused its development on the 1-80 experience (though most of the dungeons are meant to be post-80 content, as the skins are all level 80!) in order to give it the depth that many other new MMOs lack.

The future xpacs are meant to address post-80 stuff.

ANet is taking its time to try to do it right. I’d rather see multiple starter areas and stories than just one, like most MMOs besides WoW have been, and a bunch of dungeons that people burn through.

GW2 is a new game and it will still have its flaw, especially not enough depth in some hard contents but it is not the non trinity issue. Anet will have to absorb more experience from players and to develop more indepth combat based on the existing system. For example a boss fight will give tons of conditions and outlast your party, everyone have to swap out their condition removal and do some interrupt to stop the boss from casting the skill, so it is not full dps team can handle and give more meaning to interrupt and supportive skills.

Well, i am sure Anet can come up more interesting combat in the future without any sort of trinity based formula, time and constructive ideas are needed.

I’ve raided in wow, had success, and still prefer the way that guild wars done things. You can prefer Guild Wars for what it is without having failed at WoW.

It’s pretty selfish for a certain subset of WoW players to jump to Guild Wars and then demand that it do things like WoW. How about y’all go demand better graphics and character models, since that’s really what you want— WoW with GW2’s looks.

But no, you’d rather come to the Guild Wars franchise and demand that it bow to you guys, and sneer at the folks who like the game and appreciate what ANet is trying to do.

And then y’all criticise us for being ‘fanboys’. Well, why don’t you WoW fanboys go back to WoW if it’s so much better? Since you refuse to learn how to play this game.

OTOH, WoW’s systems can’t be that great, or you’d still be there instead of trying to destroy this game’s systems.

Y’all do this to every game! You did it to GW1 (every WoW maintenance period for years), AION, you did it to RIFT, you did it to ToR, every MMO that is not WoW, you rush in and slag it up and down and demand that it be like WoW. Stop it! Just go back to the game you think is better already.

If people are so darn insistent that they prefer WoW’s dungeon mechanics, then they already have a game that they prefer, and there’s nothing wrong with that— but go play that one.

Most of us bought GW2 with the understanding that there is no traditional trinity, and we like the game that we bought.

I dont need trinity per se, but I want real ROLES in dungeons. That is what makes combat feel like you are part of a team. Every organized sport has roles and positions. GW2 feels like a free for all with 4 other people.

I want real roles.
I want an instant action/lfg tool.

I’m not playing until I get at least one of them.

My $0.02.

You have real roles. Figure out what your class is best at, and do it. They were all designed this way, but ANet expects you to hammer out your own playstyle and then use it to your group’s advantage.

=

So wow and GW2, wich one? it’s up to you, choose, but don’t try to make them the same game, they can be different, that’s why we have this choice in the first place. I don’t want wow to die and i don’t want GW2 to die, i want to be able to freely choose where to put my time in. If GW2 goes trinity it will die, cause that’s something wow has mastered, and then we won’t have the luxury of choice.

You said this perfectly.

Now if only there was a thing where you gathered a group of people together, whom with you could play on a regular basis, where everyone knew each other and appreciated what others were doing. We could call them something like… guilds!

I have severe and life-threatening health problems that a) make regular drama not something I like, and it’s unavoidable in guilds, and b) those health problems make it difficult for me to be reliable for regular dungeon runs, which was the case when I was in guilds.

GUILDS GUILDS GUILDS is not the answer for a lot of people. I like MMOs, I like doing things in groups, but my health issues force me to pug or go without, because people like to SAY they are understanding (and may mean it at the time) but they usually are not.

And honestly every time I was in high-end or even mid-range guilds, there was always that jerk (or a few) who can’t get out of the fire and then rages out for some reason or another.

Any guilds I’m in, it is on a casual basis and I usually just rep my own.
