37.
Played GW1 as well, along with WoW and AION.
Tarnished Coast
Tarnished Coast’s main cities all seem to be busy when I go there (though Rata Sum is the quietest). DR seems to be just as busy as LA, and there’s usually some chatter going on in Hoelbrak, the Grove, and the BC when I go.
Tarnished Coast
I would buy gems for real monies if this feature came out. <33
Tarnished Coast
I would love more leafies.
And for male leafies, especially cloth, take a page from the female designs and give more flow and clean lines, especially around the waist? The pants on tier 1 and 2 look clunky to me, and the arrangement of foliage is stiff and busy; I realise these are dudes, but the leaf placement is better rendered in the concept art.
Tarnished Coast
I prefer the Sylvari running animation, it’s a little bouncier than the human’s (though very similar, at least on the male) and fits them well.
Tarnished Coast
“do Slyvari poop?”
Since their gi tract was described as a pitcher plant pouch (and working similarly), probably not. They’d use whatever they’re eating more efficiently.
Re: oxygen: all plants ‘breathe’ like we do, it’s just that during certain photosynthesis phases, they create more of one or the other whilst converting food into energy. So we say that they ‘breathe’ carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, that’s not actually true— they’re just excreting more oxygen as a byproduct of digesting their foods.

A minimap that can be moved to the left OR right of the screen. This is really tough on visually-impaired gamers like me and was part of what made GW1 so accessible.
Tarnished Coast
I am legally blind, and my field of view is extremely limited— a few inches to the front and mostly to the left. But the minimap is locked to the right side.
In GW1, I could compensate for this by moving the minimap and the umap to the left, so that I could navigate without having to crane my head at an extremely awkward angle. This let me avoid the killer headaches and difficulties navigating (nevermind looking for nodes) in GW2. It really hurts!
Currently, I can pretty much look at the terrain OR look at the minimap, but never both. This makes it insanely difficult to navigate in new areas and dungeons.
It would be a massive quality of life improvement for me, and I’m sure for anyone else with limited vision. GW2 is my main MMO now, but this is the first time I’ve not been able to move the compass in a game to allow me to see better. :<
Thank you for listening! I know you guys have a lot of stuff to work on, but please consider this! <333
Tarnished Coast
I much prefer the current approach, and appreciate ANet’s willingness to go there. <3

The actual dance moves are here.

To be honest, I’m more bothered by the question if there are relationships between different races, than gay Sylvari couples. I’m not talking about Charr and Asura couples, this would be just too … strange. But what about Sylvari and Human? Since the Sylvari are shaped after the Humans, I imagine they could fall in love with each other, but never saw or heard in the game of it… at least I can’t remember.
Back to the original topic, I met the gay couple in the green knight storyline too, but it was so incidental, that it didn’t feel forced to me. It was just right.
(sry, about my english. the german forum is just so boring, I had to switch to the english one.)
Yes, there are cross-race relationships (there is one in Orr), and various NPCs mack on folks of other races: some sylvari girls on a human guy, a human girl on a norn guy. In 1, you get proposals for marriage from Norn.
It’s mostly Charr and Asura that get left out, as their physical appearances are so different from the other three.
Tarnished Coast
Insect pests wouldn’t last long on a Sylvari, since basic things like moving around and taking a shower, bath or whatever knocks pests off. Aphids in particular only feed on plants with fragile leaves and die just from a spray of water.
Termites are the same, too— they go after dead, rotting wood. Healthy plants rarely get much bug damage, and the problem is mostly because they can’t walk away or bathe themselves.

I think the fact that people can’t even agree on whether he’s perfect or too flawed shows that it’s somewhere in between.
Tarnished Coast
Trahearne’s natural position of command is face down on the ground in need of a rez from the player after getting owned by a mob.)
I have never had this problem in any of the personal story. If your NPCs are dying, you’re doing a poor job of handling mobs and moving over the map. His DPS is not stupendous, but he does keep some mobs busy while I work on mine, and by the time I’m done he’s still fine and I can move on to that.
Other NPCs have splattered now and then, but he’s never been one of them.
I like him, because he’s a scholar who’s in over his head, and it’s pretty much your job to do what he can’t. Sylvari have been positioned as the race that’s there to a) help other races work together and b) cleanse the land, and that’s why he’s been in Orr so long. All of the Orders have highly-placed Sylvari, and they’re all going to influence said orders to take a Firstborn seriously.
As a Sylvari PC, there’s really no reason to resent him; he’s your big bro and you work together on similar Wyld Hunts; his is to cleanse Orr and yours is to kick Dragon butt.
People can say, ‘but why him?!’ Because he may not be a military god, but he is an expert on Orr in particular. You are a good field general, but you don’t have his depth of knowledge. It’s not reasonable to assume that you become the leader of the Pact; it’s much more realistic (I know, I know) for you to work together with people who do have more knowledge.
Most of the vitriol is pretty much that he ‘hijacks’ the story, though I don’t feel that he does. Reading up on Sylvari lore gives you a lot of hints that this might happen, though I know a lot of folks haven’t. Even some writer interviews hint at it.
Sylvari showing up is basically the planet rolling up its sleeves and taking care of business, since the meat-based lifeforms are too busy bickering to get their act straight. That’s part of why a Sylvari ends up leading the Pact, especially one designed to basically be a living encyclopedia on all things zombie.
This is also why he’s somewhat flat (but he’s really just quiet). He’s not badly-written.

Still cheering for Trahearne. If you play a Sylvari, you know who this guy is and why it’s appropriate that he’s leading the offensive in Orr.
I also don’t get why people are complaining that he dies easy; he doesn’t. If you’re doing your job, and you let him do his, he doesn’t die. He held boss aggros now and then reasonably well.
Maybe it’s just a mesmer thing, but he’s been way more useful than not, and it’s nice fighting alongside a sylvari bro.
Tarnished Coast
He’s not Kormir. XD He’s Rurik.
And it’s well-known by all of the Orders that he’s the expert on Orr.
I also haven’t had to res him once so far, I don’t get it. He holds some aggros, he actually does damage, and he buys my mesmer self time to kill stuff. o.o;
Tarnished Coast
I really like Trahearne!

For example cherry trees look quite magnificent when they are blossoming so the idea of having flowers as decoration in the hairstyles isn’t that far fetched.
I agree, I really want to achieve the beautiful/poetic effect but it’s also quite difficult. I tried it with a male Sylvari with plum blossoms as my theme, turns out I got reactions from both ends of the spectrum. My RL friend was horrified, but a random stranger I met while exploring really liked it.
I wish we can have more species of plants/trees to tinker around with.
I love him, he’s beautiful!
Hopefully Anet might give us longer hair options in the future. Weeping willows, long grasses, etc, are all possible!
Tarnished Coast
So who here is really acting like a bigot??
You are. And it’s tiresome to see religious fundamentalists feeling the need to crap on this kind of thing. This is one of the few Western games to be okay with homosexuality and bisexuality; there are plenty of MMOs that aren’t, and that’s part of why I don’t play them.
This was a major reason WHY I rolled sylvari, to show support for NCSoft’s decision to go there.
Tarnished Coast
mine are all male. always will be. I don’t dress in drag in real life
Most folks who play an opposite-sex character aren’t playing a representation of themselves, they’re just playing a character.
It’s usually only folks looking for a hookup who care about the RL gender behind the character in the game.
Tarnished Coast
I’m not sure where the shoulders (maybe the feet?) are, but the rest looks like Heavy Vigil.
Tarnished Coast
I love this game. Of course, I bothered to research it beforehand, and I don’t need to speedclear dungeons to find enjoyment.
Tarnished Coast
Im one of those people that liked it when you picked a certain class and race combo based on it’s stats and abilities and actually did all the progress on your main.
I am focusing everything on my main in this game. If I do alts, it’s only to get a couple of achievements (the orders, mostly).
Can’t stand race locks. I do miss being a healer, but I don’t miss the bad attitude people had when they wouldn’t get out of the fire/lazors/etcetc and then kittened me out about them dying.
Each class actually does have its own niches, IMO. I understand that some games are doing things different, but I don’t see the point in raging at ANet about it. I’m tired of games before this mostly being like WoW. Instead of raging in WoW’s forums and demanding they change, I just stopped playing and subbing and went to this game instead.
Tarnished Coast
Is anyone else disappointed that Trahearne is the one to cleanse Orr? It’s meant to be of huge significance to humanity and yet it’s a sylvari who plays the biggest part in solving the problems in the region.
Sylvari are pretty much around to save the land, while the other races are there to save their people. Trahearne is the literal embodiment of this: unsure about everything else but his purpose, before finding his stride and fulfilling his function.
Sylvari were also stated to be the race that is there to try to smooth things between the others.
Anyway, he was created to solve the problem of Orr, while the Sylvari PC was created to get rid of the dragon— he’s got the long-term planning job, while you’re there to mow everything down.
Tarnished Coast
I agree, yet disagree.
Destinies Edge was handled really well, especially in the context of what they were build to be. ANet has said several times they wanted them to be a dysfunctional normal guild represented by NPCs, and thats exactly what they are, from the reliable raider, to the minmaxer, to the “bro” who “g2g gf aggro”.
Trahearne’s entry to the story for nonSylvari was somewhat weak, but as a character, I don’t find him much of a Mary Sue. While most of the other characters treat him with tons of respect, he’ll readily admit several times during the story that he has no idea whats going on, and once he realized he had no idea how to tackle his Wyld Hunt, he spent the rest of his time just running around chatting with people, and fraternizing with foreign women. That’s why he’s the leader though, all three Orders/Nation Leaders respect him greatly, while the troops respect you. Together you two can get everyone to shut up about their issues, and get them into Orr where they are needed.
There’s quite a few spoilers near the end that the Sylvari as a whole have a lot more story to tell however, so I can see why ANet set him up in that position for future storytelling as well.
Pretty much this. I actually like him a lot.
People really don’t know what a Gary Stu is if they’re comparing him to one. x.x He’s always been set up as THE guy to go to for all things Orr, especially if you play a Sylvari. All the Orders know who he is, since all of them have Sylvari placed highly in their ranks.
Tarnished Coast
Around 400 hours.
Still <3 the game.
Tarnished Coast
I wish I could look like a real plant, but it’s also nice to have several kinds of prestige armor that have nothing to do with dungeons.
Tarnished Coast
Its a good game; best out there. But we still push the envelope of needs, is all. Like the complete lack of rewards for effort that do give those that put forth more effort a more rewarding reward that offers a slight advantage over a general item.
Chain grinding a dungeon isn’t that much more effort.
Tarnished Coast
Gaming has “shifted” no it hasnt, its always been about rewarding players for challenge, only in your head has it ever been otherwise.
All MMORPGs focus around this. all RPGs do aswell, progression and reward.
Seriously, stop defending this game because so many people are dissapointed with the direction it took and rightfully so.
I love this game. I don’t love what MMO gaming’s become, and it bothers me that ANet’s had to change, nerf, and bend over backwards to deal with the creeps trying to drag this game down.
It’ll settle in the end and things will calm down, but it is a shame that element’s shown up here. I am a GW1 player and I don’t like how folks from other MMOs are angry at ANet and wanting it to change.
You KNEW what game you were getting. It’s a good game. Stop trying to change it.
Tarnished Coast
I like him. <3
I also like his voice, he sounds like a documentarian whose name I can’t remember.

“Yeah but Guild Wars lasted a lot of people 5+ years just on that. So it must have done something right.”
They had several expansions. This is the first release. Chill out.
I didn’t buy an incomplete game to buy 5 more expansions to cost me 300$+ just to have a real game.
It’s not incomplete and they were very clear about where they put their focus for the initial release. You chose to buy a game, knowing they had very little content tailored specifically to post-80s, and then are upset about it.
Tarnished Coast
Please keep up your spirits, ANet! I hope things turn out well and the rough patches smooth over in time.
Tarnished Coast
Just about no one who’s hit level 80 has done all the content. You just hit 80. Go finish the rest of the game (explorable mode dungeons are level 80 content, that is why the top tier sets there are level 80 except for two dungeons) before you start complaining.
This is a vanilla release, and you knew that post-80 content would be lean until future expansions.
I did the dungeons, but I’m not gonna do them again because AN don’t want me to do it again (relating to patch notes)
Kk. Means less speed run spam in the open world, yay!
Tarnished Coast
I read about the game before buying it and got exactly what I was expecting.
Either you bought the game today or places where you read about the game have people who can see the future. Diminishing returns on drops,
Anyone who played GW1 knew that would happen as soon as botters and grinders started flooding the economy
broken economy
Give it time to settle before raging. Have you folks never played a game at launch before?

80 doesn’t mean anything. You do what you did before you got to 80, and I can guarantee you haven’t done all the content.

They more said that PvE is not viable means of anything, they ruined dungeons, there is not reward for risk, they want you to WvW but they won’t detract anyone who already got ahead of the curve in gear so you get smashed by fully exotic’d players in WvW,
I’ve been in a dungeon once, and yet almost every piece of gear on my main is Exotic. You can make money, and get karmas, in this game without chain-grinding dungeons.
What’s sad is that folks are chain-grinding stuff, and THEN complaining that there is no endgame. SLOW DOWN! :3
Tarnished Coast
You shouldn’t feel forced to repeat cursed shore events (and it seems like they kittened that anyway), when you can get almost as much karma in many other zones for doing their event chains.
Anyway, I don’t have any dungeon gear, but I have extremely good-looking armor. (one is the Orr Karma set). Crafted sets look good, Orders sets look good, etc. You can look pretty fine while working on dungeon gear, I get ogled all the time in my Armageddon armor.

Celtic names— Irish, Scottish, Welsh, etc. Also french names.
A few have last names and titles, like ’What’s his name of the Wyld’ and ’What’s her name Leafyleaves’. But that’s ones who’ve racked up a reputation, either among their own or others.

It wasn’t flashy. It was a very subtle pollen puff that was pretty neat.

Sylvari listen to anyone who sounds like they know what they’re talking about, that’s been stated as part of lore.

I am bad at maths.
If I want to run a power build, which weapons should I use?
If I want to run a condition build, which (besides staff obviously)?
Since I am buying endgame golds now, I don’t want to waste time buying the wrong set.
I am currently using sword + pistol (thinking of switching to sword+sword), GS, and Staff.
Tarnished Coast
I want my pollen back, too. :<
