Epidemic: kicked for not playing heavy

What don’t people understand about making their own parties with their friends or guildies?
Or even making a “LFG anyone allowed, come have fun!”

What’s hard about this?

Problem is, the heavy zerk only mentality has become so prevalent that people will join a “anyone/fun” group and then try to impose their will on the rest of the group or just be a general kitten. Example – had a war join my CoF group ad “p1 chilled out run” and from the immediate get go throughout the whole run was whispering me asking about my gear (I was necro dagger/wh berserkers, except for 2 knights earrings). “What your build?” “What armor stats?” You should have zerk weapon. You have?" What runes? CONSTANTLY. Even though we ripped right through the dungeon with some random mix of classes. Never gave him the satisfaction of pinging.

If the speedclear crowd is going to crow on about others not reading ads/joining the wrong group, then the same corollary applies. Don’t join the relaxed runs and get kitten-y because the run takes a minute longer or someone runs an oddball build.

I won’t try to defend that warrior. But I don’t think it is the zerker mentality as you call it any more then it is the cleric mentality when a cleric guardian joins a zerker only group convinced he is needed because of his “massive” healing ability. The issue is that certain people no matter which side of the fence they are, do not want to play by the rules their group has set. A zerker joins a non zerker group, non zerkers in zerker group. They have only themselves to blame if they have a slow run or if they get kicked.

The key point is that people need to realize that the “Play how you want” That Anet sold the game with doesn’t mean they get to overide the wishes of the other four members of their groups ability to play how they want.

If I write zerker only, that is exactly what I mean. If you write “anyone/fun” that is what you wanted. The problem lies with the ones who join and don’t meet or follow what was written.

If anything Stability should be longer. We don’t need the only defensive skill against CC nerfed cause people can’t figure out how to play. Or look to see which boons are active on there opponents bar before they waste a CC skill. Hammer trains are already out of control. But sure lets nerf the counter so instead of a fair fight we have Hammer Warriors bashing there way through everything.

But over course People would rather QQ cause Stability Kept them from getting that loot bag.

No, I don’t want to play a guessing game every time I am in WvW until I get close enough to click on someone. Now is that a Thief I see there or Is that a Elementalist d/d rolling in Medium armor?

Lets just leave it as is.

Edit: Yes, I realize there are other tells as I think about it. Armor just stands out until you see someone pop a skill. Besides I remember rolling with a friend a while back, we both Played Human Male thieves and both used the same build/look/colors. In our mask we might have been twins.

Then we started roaming. It was fun to mess with people while doing it, but lets not open up a whole other can of worms with this….

I remember this awesome Skill in Guild Wars one, Ursan’s Blessing. PvE only, but that didn’t stop people for yelling for a nerf cause it didn’t let them play as they want. I quite playing Guild Wars 1 the very next day, never uninstalled just stopped going back. (And by the way, Guild Wars 1 was not gods gift to MMOs hindsight is always 20/20 everyone remembers what they liked about it not what was actually there in places. I know, I recently started playing it again).

But people won’t be happy until DPS has been nerfed so hard it takes four to eight hours to run one dungeon. By that point I will be long gone, I might not play another MMO but I won’t be playing (or spending money on this one).

If we really want to go crazy and get rid of those Evil DPS builds lets leave the boss hp alone and cut the damage of all weapons across the board by half. Then the anti-zerker crowd can be happy when they take 20-30 minutes to drop one boss.

Fact is nothing will change, Cleric….solider….dire these are WvW gear sets. Not something for PVE. By the time people realize just how much the messed up this game with the Zerker nerf will be to late.

Bad players will still be bad, regardless of gear. It wasn’t that hard to find Non-Zerker groups. I often didn’t pay attention to which groups I joined despite being a zerker. But After this I will, if I keep playing PvE at all. I might just go Full time WvW.

I have done every dungeon in this game until I am sick of them. I just want the gold and I want it done. I think most other zerker speed group players were the same. We didn’t join your non zerker groups and tell you how to play. Why did you all feel the need to come here and complain?

Mixing Runes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Talyn.3295

Its a nice thought, but as I said before on a previous post:

What bugs me most is that they can’t just be honest about the reasons for these changes. I think we were all doing just fine before they decided to make this change.

I think its kinda funny that Anet has came out and said they want us to use a full set of the same type of rune. I mean if they made it to where we had to have 6 for the full effect why didn’t they think at some point we would mix and match to get the bonuses we wanted just like we do with armor to get the look we want.

As for why this was such a huge deal to them I will never know. Unless someone there took it as a personal slight that we were not playing the game the way they intended it to be played. If they wanted us to only go one way with it, they should have only allowed us to only slot runes on the chest piece and had that one rune encompass the same power as the six together and be done with it.

I personally liked the idea of mix and matching runes. I felt that it allowed for a more deserve play style. That and given that some rune sets were next to useless to start with….

On the bright side this might cause them to re-think some of those runes no one would touch with a ten foot pole

Snip
“We know that some builds rely on mixing and matching different runes to optimize a given stat, and we don’t want to stop players from doing that.” [Inserted comment by me – ROFL- if the 15% to 5% nerf on rune pairs is across the board, that is SOME encouragement, kind of like how 12" high speed bumps encourage slower speeds. End inserted comment.] “Rather than limiting build diversity, we simply want the PvE rune system to be as clear and approachable as possible for new players, so we’re making it easier to understand the benefits of sticking with a single rune set.”

What bugs me most is that they can’t just be honest about the reasons for these changes.

The side effect of this that I haven’t really seen any one comment on is how this is going to to increase effectiveness of certain offense builds that rely on stuns. Either that or we are going to have to stack more Guardians in a group and rotate through our Stability, due to loss of boon duration. Might will hurt us, but it wont’ kill us like the loss of stability will. Either that or we get steam rolled by hammer trains and statics more then we previously have in zerg combat.

I gave up on what Anet might or might not have been thinking after the whole December patch. They ask for feed back from the community on the planned changes. Then after getting the feed back they promptly ignored it.

I think out of all the classes Guardian is the only one who would have to rely sources out side our own weapons, (runes etc) if we wanted to make it happen. What we need is a new weapon, (like we have been promised) maybe ax, that would be devoted to condition attacks like the warrior’s sword.

I am not gonna say any more about anything on here till after the patch drops though. At least then I can play it. But push comes to shove I don’t ever see a condition guardian out doing a Power guardian until some serious re-work is done to our job.

So I’m assuming spirit weapons have dropped out of the game for the most part?

They aren’t even as much mentioned in the changes. No buffs to increase their usefulness in any game mode. Anet says Guardians are in a “good place.” Well hell not even all their utilities are useful… Those spirit weapon traits just seem to take up space that can be used for actually interesting traits.

And just what do we know about spirit weapons???
Are they like pets, minions or mesmer clones?
Do they have any survivability? What are their HP values?
Do they scale with guardian damage or have their own separate damage values?

I mean you don’t see them period and Anet just thinks they are in a “good place.”

Will these utilities ever become useful?

Talyn.3295

Honestly, I don’t mind that they leave us alone. I just want them to realize what the buffs are that we need and when we need theses buffs and where they are needed. Guardians have had several glaring weakness built into them for a long time.

If we look at our basic skill types:

Shouts = Great for WvW team support
Meditations = Popular for SpvP
Consecrations = Great for PvE

At leas that is where I mostly use those. But I have slotted Meditations in WvW along with consecrations etc. Those were only the most popular examples.

Spirit Weapons = Garbage? other then the Shield in rare spots I don’t recall when I last used it.

Signets = Again, can’t remember when the last time I put one of these on my bar was..

What we need is some fixes for those. To make them more useful at something. I feel that the new GM trait we are looking at Force of Will I think it was called would be better off in Zeal, if we want to make a power guardian better.

In regards to “Guardians in a good spot.” Yes, we are, but when you start buffing other classes to make them better but leave us where we are, eventually that good spot isn’t looking so good anymore.

BTW, anyone says 3k hp is nothing clearly never fight a good thief 1 on 1 in WvW, or even play WvW enough…

Go back to your sweet PVE and enjoy slaughtering noob AI with your loving PPCrit.
Please don’t come to WvW to be easy Rally Trashes that benefit foes more than your team.

Clearly 3k hit points is better than pure of voice in a 1v1 against a non-condition build. I think most of the time conditions are present in a fight in WvW.

I find his comment about been Easy Rally Trashes pretty funny. I ran with my Guild in WvW the other night for over 4 hours and only died once, without this wonderful trait he is talking about. Funny that time I was salvaging and I missed my guild commander say “We are floating to BGBL” By the time I realized my guild had waypointed 9 JQ had jumped out of the tower we were thinking of taking and had me in combat. That 3k health wouldn’t have made any difference.

PoV is better in almost every WvW case. Because it allows for us to remove conditions from ourselves and our Party. The 3k health is selfish and will only help us. Also PoV will remove chill, cripple, immobilize etc.

I think people need to think things through before they start calling people out.

Anyway, I don’t think a VIT boost trait belongs to Zeal nor Radiance. Honor seems the correct line IMO. I know that the DPS guardian needs a boost on defensive aspect; but putting a vit boost to offensive trait line is not a solution.

I go zerg swimming all the time. Never had a problem that required more Vit, maybe I am just that good.

Gonna go out on a limb. Though in this case not that far. You are not a guardian player. If you look at the other grand master traits you will see PoV. Which is not selfish like this trait and does more by removing conditions like cripple chill etc. It beats this trait hands down

Zerker build has ruined this game !

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Talyn.3295

Talyn.3295

I run a Zerker guardian. I have for a while. I don’t always run with other zerker groups. But I have been more and more lately.

For the longest time I was happy to join any old pug. Then here while back when I was bored and my nomral dungeon guild group wasn’t on I decided to run HOTW path 3. I got another two guardians, and Ele and a warrior. Right after the first boss fight, which took longer then nomral, the warrior says “I love been a regen warrior.” Right then I had this sinking feeling.

As I soon discovered I was the ONLY source of DPS anywhere. There is only so much time even the most skilled Zerker guardian can dodge/blind/block/dance/bake pies what not before he runs out of everything. Needless to say it wasn’t a fun night. I opened or I would have tossed the whole thing, and left.

Point is Zerker gear hasn’t ruined the game. Peoples unwillingness to let go of their past experiences have. We all know that Anet is changing zerker gear. But what we dont’ know is exactly by how much. Regardless of what happens there the Meta will change, even if its slightly. Then we will be running into these same problems. People will be complaining on the fourms that no one wants them.

Bad players will be bad players. It doesn’t matter what gear or build they use

I admit that I’m using the “selfish” melandru rune set since I found burning all my cooldowns to clear off constant condi pressure to be utterly futile.

I have no idea why…but this bit here at the end reminded me of the pvp girl friend left me all is vain thread. Never the less, I got a chuckle.

Thanks

You’re welcome. :p

Truth is when people complain about low health, it’s not low health in itself, but as you brought up earlier, conditions do a number that really hurts. Guardian condition removal isn’t bad, but it requires significant investment with the exception of maybe like purity— so naturally I guess if you spec really tanky, it doesn’t seem so bad but try to go outside and it becomes entirely troublesome which is why zeal is so unpopular. Radiance at least gives you blinds. Zeal… is schizo and the fact that traits like kindled zeal are pretty worrisome.

Which I would admit they don’t really address the problem by adding a hp trait. People go deep into honor for Pure of Voice, not really because it’s good, but it’s pretty much the defacto condition removal aside from the virtues line. PoV may look good if you add soldier runes, but talk about pigeonholing. Virtues tree is good too, but it’s hard to delve into there without becoming too fragile, which again comes down to the crap health problem. The other options such as meditation condition removal are way too selfish and thus aren’t popular except for small man/pvp play. Signets can remove conditions too, but are even more selfish.

Now, it’s certainly not as big of a joke as Ranger condition management, though that’s not really a standard to look after.

It’s not too hard to come up with a defensive support build. Coming up with an offensive build that maintains good support is hard, except in pve.

If that gives any one ideas for other traits, that’s where we can look.

It doesn’t seem to matter how many times we discuss this. Anet just isn’t hearing us. I do agree with you, We have viable builds, but its all or nothing most of the time.

Want to be good at DPS in pve: We got a build, but due to our low hp its very unforgiving to people who want to learn it. Lots of active defense and timing of blinds blocks, reflects. Easy once you get used to it

Want to be a good bunker: Well we got a good build for that to, just don’t expect to kill anyone by yourself

The list goes go on and on.

We can do almost anything but to be great at it we give up way to much. If Anet ever gets this, maybe we will get the right kinda buffs in the right places. But I think they are happy because “Guardians are in a good place.” That seems to be there answer for us everytime we ask for something.

Holy Trinity Is Called "Holy" For A Reason

It kinda makes me smile to think about it. MMOs are the only games that people will demand complete changes and make overs. When was the last time you purchased a FPS, Driving game or Football game, played it for six months or more, then went back to the maker of said game and was like. “You know, I would rather you had made Mass Effect more like this. Could you completely redo the entire game and give it to me for free cause I already bought it once.” Talk about a sense of entitlement.

The logic stands. You have a working bug free (most of the time game) It is what you paid for. If you wanted a WoW clone. (Or something else.) Its out there.

I do not miss the Restrictive Un-holy Trinity. Not one bit. Given the choice I would take this format. And When we look at games like ESO we see that its being copied. Perhaps not in its completely but its there.

So rather then spending time here complaining, perhaps you might go and play a game you like, that has the system you want. I know we will both be happier if you did.

New guardian meta

Bringing more blinds/aegis/reflects to your party is more beneficial than this… If you want to be supportive at least use a hammer build, perma protection with decent dps is better than healing especially since protection is independent of stats. The idea with a guardian is that we have the most defensive stat independent options for group play.

At around 42 min into the clip you note “it’s funny people still died with all the healing I bring…” This should kinda clue you into the fact that you aren’t being that helpful. With gs s/f you bring cc (binding blade) and ways to avoid damage (3 blinds, personal block focus 5). All of these are completely independent of stats.

In short, avoiding damage >>>>>>>>>> healing. Since ways to avoid damage in this game are independent of stats it makes much more sense to utilize those and stack offensive stats. It’s literally the best of both worlds. It really hurts my head that people don’t get this.

People won’t get it because they don’t want too. They are to stuck on the hard trinity effect to believe that they can’t play a game as a healer. No matter how many times we prove it isn’t a good idea in pve.

The problem with ditching your knights for clerics is that you will lose out on DPS. The healing is nice from Clerics but scales badly. Its also not really needed for PvE where Mob AI is so weak. I would suggest sticking with your Knights gear if you like it.

Boon Duration Attribute, is it worth it?.

In WvW. Yes

Empower works best with a boon duration build. There is nothing wrong with using it there. If I have the correct traits and geared correctly I can get 75% boon duration before I even have a food buff on.

This however is not where boon duration really shines. That is with our up time of stability. If you see a team getting steam rolled in WvW its usually cause the guardian failed to give them enough stability. Some of our squishy squad mates, most notable Necros, Mesmers and Elementalist depending on their build have very limited stability access. The longer your boon duration the longer your stability the happier your team will be.

The first time you enter a dungeon like ac exp it is fairly difficult for the most part, then you start to learn about the game, the path, and about mechanics and your runs start to get faster, to the point that the dungeons become trivial to complete if you have a good group. The dungeons can be difficult for some pug groups because they bring the wrong builds/classes or they try to do something they see in a speed clear vid that they simply don’t have the skill or dps to do themselves.

Many of the people that complain about the difficulty of dungeons are mainly complaining that they can’t tank or heal in the game or that their suboptimal build isn’t that good in a dungeon. The people that want to tank or heal just have the wrong game since gw2 isn’t meant to have a trinity. The people that want to bring a suboptimal build to a dungeon usually have a role playing reason to do so, or they want to be unique to be unique and those people usually repeat the gw2 catch phrase of “play how you want.” If you run an optimal build and know how to dodge, you can easily do every path in the game very quickly as long as you’re running with people that also play optimally.

Very true. These dungens are almost to easy. I even manage to pug them with all the staff camping guardians, greatsword camping warriors, and bearbow rangers. Most important thing is to get experience. They can be done with all the pugs just takes you a bit longer if your lucky or if not. Drop them while.ypu can and grab a new party.

Staff is a PvP weapon. A world vs world weapon. If your spamming it in PvE is bad. I am not gonna to waste time replaying again. I only hope that the information related here will keep others from making the same mistakes you are with spaming staff one auto through half a fight.

Honestly I don’t know why people insist on giving bad advice here when someone ask for help. Staff? Really? Staff on a guardian is like the old Bearbow ranger, only in many cases worse. A good team can stack more might with a fire field then a guardian can give with the staff and it last a lot longer.

It can get you kicked out of alot of parties, see this post if you have any doubts

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Zerker-guardian-with-staff/page/3#post3589553.

And a post from someone who knows alot about the Guardian class https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/page/2#post3364731

Its not a matter of seeing the light. Its a matter of how little use you get out of the majority of the skills.

1. Weak auto attack
2. Small heal if not specked for healing, even then its not great
3. Swiftness causes light field instead of fire combos = No might stacking
4. Empower… the little might it gives could be gotten from other sources
5. Will stop a charging mob but otherwise not exactly gonna help you kill anything.

The staff is sub-par except for support, and even then it is only used in certain areas.

current "meta" for utility infusions?

in Players Helping Players

Keep in mind with your infusions that the slots are dependent on different things. You need to read about the infusion type in the item before you buy and try to infuse. For example a Ring or weapon with an Offensive infusion slot won’t allow you to place a defensive or utility infusion. In the example where your talking about Magic Find or Karma those are Utility infusions which currently can only be placed on amulets. Weapons have offensive infusion slots. You could of course make the Versatile ones at the forge that would say, let you put an offensive in a defense slot, but those are more expensive.

You need to look at the guardian fourms. And leave the staff at home unless its for clearing plants in TA. Empower is awful in pve because you lose all the damage you could be doing with that might due to thr staffs awful auto attack. Heads up though there might be a build that lets you do everything. But you wont do everything well. There are specalized builds for a reason.

I run three builds. One for WvW another for pve dungens and open world and a third for high level fracals. 49ish. Only the WVW build uses the staff. I use hammer for fractala and sword/focus and great sword for everything else.

Edited cause my phone is a pain.

I die a little inside every time I watch a brother or sister guardian spam the staff during a fight. I was helping a guildmate with a low fractal the other day. I don’t even recall the number. My fellow PuG guardian used his staff all through the Charr Fractal. Then again when we started the ice one.

We got to the ice elemental and he charged it to spam staff one. No use of SyG or Hallowed Ground. No WoR. Just staff one. Then when we had a wipe he left our group like WE did something wrong. Thankfully the Mesmer who joined us after he bailed knew what they were doing and we just kinda coasted the rest of the Fractal.

Slayer Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Anet should just remove the slayer sigils and incorporate their effects into the slayer achievements.

You killed 1000 Centaurs? You’ll do 2% more Damage against Centaurs..
You killed 5000 Centaurs? Youll do 10% more Damage against Centaurs

and so on until you reach a certain Damage Booster Cap.

Those Slayer Achievements should just reflect the expereince of your character in slaying a certain enemy type. So more you killl a certain enemy type, so more expereinced does your character become in killing them and this should get reflected by a small Damage Boost (or/ or maybe other little positive nice effects)

And this would allow Anet to reduce a bit the amount of Sigils, because lets face it, these slyer sigils are totally obsolete, nobody uses them, because there exist just alot better more useful sigils, than those slayer sigils that give you only a damage boost against 1 single specific enemy type and then even not a real siginificant one that makes up for a real big difference. 10% is just too less to make up for a real siginificant difference. 25% makes up for a real difference.

Titles should also reflect back some kind of character progression.

This is a great suggestion, based on some good logic. Too bad Anet won’t look at it. Let alone consider it.

Always thought this would be a nice perk for the weapon master (at least in PvE). It would be a good throw back to guild wars 1 with some of the titles being for more then just show. I don’t see it happening.

And for the Record Anet. If you would Just Count the Giant’s Roaming around Orr as Giants instead of Undead people wouldn’t complain so much.

I still hold out hope that sooner or later we are going to see the places we loved to explore in Guild wars 1. Yet at the same time I don’t know if I can wait it out long enough to find out

Anet already stated there will be no instant cast healing skills in this game, which is why they are reducing it to 3/4 next patch, maybe lower.

However I do have an idea for it that would help a lot in my opinion. Let it also add three seconds of AoE chill or cripple.

Yet, despite such claims we already have two healing skills which are instant. Or that the passive was so good that it might as well be. Balance has nothing to do with it.

If you can’t stop the Warrior from Bannering a Lord you didn’t deserve to take the keep. It is really that simple. I don’t feel sorry for you at all.

How do you you stop one that pops immunities rushes in and pops banner?, they also have blocks to fall back on as well. They have PLENTY of skills to make sure they get from an entrance and to the lord without dying.

Remember some of the entrances are RIGHT at the lord – i think Hills is the only one that isnt.

We do it all the time. You just have to work as a team. If it was as impossible as you make it sound nothing would ever be taken.

Is it too powerful? Not at all.
Should they rezz NPCs? Not at all, and that’d fix the issue.

This. The amount of times we have failed taking keeps because you get Warriors that immunity up, rush in and banner the lord over and over again until the zerg arrives is VERY annoying and simply should NEVER have been allowed that the Banner would work on NPCs.

If you can’t stop the Warrior from Bannering a Lord you didn’t deserve to take the keep. It is really that simple. I don’t feel sorry for you at all.

Its getting a revamp to 3/4 cast time. Which is still awful for a meditation skill that requires us to do damage to get anytime of real heal from it.

1. Because we have to actually Damage the Target
2. We have no soft crowd control to help us keep on the target
3. If you see someone use this and your fighting you just have to run and kite them for the duration.

Its not a bad Rep, its just bad planning on Anets part.

I for one would like to be able to heal for 50,000 with a single hit

I feel cheated that this skill cost 25 skill points and is worse then Shelter and the Signet.
