Guild Mission Reset Time Changed

In order to accommodate development and hosting of Guild Wars 2 raids, we will be changing the time that guild mission resets take place each week. Starting Monday, October 5, 2015, guild mission resets will take place at 12:30 AM Pacific time each Monday.

Note: In order to make this adjustment there will be no reset on Saturday evening, October 3. Instead, that week’s guild mission period will be extended slightly to allow for this update. Subsequently, guild mission resets will occur each Monday morning, at 12:30 AM Pacific time.

Questions:

Does this time coincide with other weekly reset timers – like the level 10 personal story key reward?

Are daily resets still 12:00 UTC/server time? I know it’s probably silly, but you never know.

Played a few stronghold games today. Nika and Grymm are locked out, even though I’ve got HoT and had them available in previous stronghold weekends. Same thing for the rest of my team.

Im in the let us switch camp. It stinks to be the 3rd ranger on a team that has 2 already. So not only are there times when you look at the other teams comp and decide you want to play a more competitive class but there are also times when you look at your team and go, hmmm, we could use some variety.

So long as the match making system tries to avoid having more than 2 of the same class on a team (unless they’re queueing as a group), would that make up for dropping the ability to switch? Especially if it leads to better matches overall?

The problem with doing this is that players can no longer switch to a more effective profession once they see the enemy team’s roster which happens quite often.

I’m perfectly OK with disabling profession switching entirely.

I could very well be in the minority, but I don’t think I am in this respect: I’m moderately skilled, maybe even close to good, with some professions, but absolutely noob-level at others.

So without strong use of profession specific MMR, I’ll rarely get even fights when I’m playing a class I’m “bad” at. This is frustrating to me, because it’s really difficult to get better when you’re so heavily out-classed. It’s frustrating to my teammates because they’re penalized for me trying to get better at a class I’m not good at. It’s frustrating to the other team because it’s an unbalanced match as well.

So what are the benefits to allowing profession switching?

Sure, there are probably some very skilled players that can play most classes very well. However, I think they are a very small minority.

I’d rather be locked into the profession I queued with, if it results in better matches every time, rather than trying to swap based on what I think the enemy is setup as.

Anet: you have the data. What does it support? That most players playing unranked and ranked PvP have a wide-ranging difference between professions, or that most are pretty equal across all or most professions?

You posted this around the time of a patch. You will not be able to join an instance that is running a different version of the game then you. Either you or your friend will need to log out to the game launcher, let it patch, and then log in. You’ll then be able to play together.

Beta characters' banks are not synced

That’s intended. You’re not supposed to be able to transfer anything from your beta characters back to your normal ones. When you created your first beta character, your bank and such were copied onto what is effectively a separate account.

No, your beta characters are effectively on a different account.

Your normal characters will not have gotten the achievement points you got on your beta character, so whenever you reach that point on them, you’ll get the chest.

Not worried. Not worried if the free accounts are limited. Nor am I worried if they’ve basically got everything a core account has now, including PvP, WvW including EB/Borderlands).

There have been a lot of things announced recently that make more sense if Anet had these plans for full free to play coming up. Pact Commander mastery track with the goal of helping new players and tools to go along with it. PvP leagues. WvW population changes. And increased account security options.

Prediction 1: In order to get a free account, you’ll need to provide a valid mobile or landline phone number for SMS authentication. One number per one free account. (GoogleVoice and other such numbers will not work.)

This will prevent most bot/spam accounts from being created. It also means those accounts will already have 2-factor authentication from the beginning greatly limiting whether they could be compromised. It will also mean everyone can’t just roll up as many accounts as they need for bank storage alts.

Prediction 2: Ranked PvP gets turned into leagues as previously announced. Free accounts get unranked access.
More people playing PvP in general is a good thing – it keeps matches from getting stale and matchmaking works much better with larger numbers of people queueing. GW2 also gets a bump as far as esports goes with free PvP access.

Prediction 3: Free accounts get full WvW access, not only EOTM.
This could go a LONG way to resolving population imbalances in lower tiers. It may sound bad at first to dump a lot of free players on the lower tiers – but as long as queue times don’t get out of control, everyone wins with more people in WvW spread across all the servers that were lacking.

What happens is that my character can freely move but cannot cast skills and all other players seem to be stuck in place. I found that the only remedy is to go back to character select screen (or worse, restart the game client) and then go back to the PvP arena.

Yes, what you are describing is certainly a disconnect. The client has lost connection with the server. You’re able to move around and such because the client is running on your computer, so can take commands, but cannot send them to the server (or get any response back).

However, after I return to the same pvp match that was interrupted, even if my team is victorious and even if I made the most points in the team, the victory is not added to my win records. This is frustrating bec it never happened before and now it’s happening frequently.

This is intended. When you disconnect from a ranked or unranked match, you automatically take a loss if you are disconnected for more than 30 seconds (or did it get bumped to a minute?). This is to discourage people from intentionally disconnecting from a losing match.

Lowering your graphics settings should help. You may also want to restart your client as close to Teq as you can.

As others have said, GW2 is a 32bit application. So it can only address between 3-4 GB of memory itself. This is normally enough, even at max settings. However, the game dynamically allocates memory – so when the game needs to put something in memory, it finds a spot and drops that bit of data in. Later when it doesn’t need it, it release the parts it doesn’t need. Over time, the memory that game can use can become fragmented into many small pieces. At some point, something is going to need more space than what is available in a contiguous chunk. That’s when most of those out of memory crashes happen.

(This is a rough description, there may be parts of the explanation that aren’t exactly what happen, but should be close enough to be understood.)

The faster you report each spammer (and then of course block them so they can no longer bother you), the faster they’ll be gotten rid of. It takes 3 clicks to report, and 3 clicks to block, it really can’t get any easier.

The faster you do this, the less time the gold seller has to use the account. The less time they’ve got to use the account, the less profitable it is to sell gold. It’s economics – once you do your part in making it uneconomical for them to sell gold, they’ll go away and not come back.

I know there’s a lot of other things going on with this patch, but the change to squad chat color is really bad.

I’m not colorblind, but in less than 3 minutes after joining one, I’ve heard 2 different people saying that are and they can no longer make any distinction between /say and /squad. I can barely tell the difference when paying attention.

There’s got to be a better way to distinguish GM messages that don’t involve breaking /squad.

Nope, get as much of that bugged supply as you can, they don’t care. Said it plenty of times, it isn’t gem store or PvE, they don’t care.

This is horrendously bad advice. No matter your feelings about whether Anet is devoting enough effort for what you think is most important, don’t encourage people to abuse an obvious bug.

What’s probably happened is that the traits/abilities you had equipped when the change occurred were converted to a build that you had automatically unlocked. That automatic unlock was not free, and cost more hero points than you had. So you have a negative balance until you make up the difference by leveling or doing challenges.

It’s DR. And it was not intended for you to be able to park a character at the end of a mini-dungeon just to skip over everything but the end and get loot, so be careful what you ask for. Probably the easiest way for Arenanet to fix the issue is to port you out of the area if you logout inside of it.

As someone said in another post about this, a Beta Weekend is different to a Stress Test.

Sure, and that’s why I said I understand why they’re doing this from an intellectual perspective. But it feels like the same kind of lawyer talk nonsense like “you didn’t actually buy that ebook, you’re just licensing it and we can delete it from your reader when we want” or “unlimited* mobile data (*not really unlimited)” that people get legitimately up in arms about.

Adding terms and conditions and exceptions to something after the fact isn’t how you keep hype and good feelings about a coming expansion.

Announced WvW Stress Test, will only be available to select invitees. Wait, didn’t I buy access to all beta events with HoT prepurchase?

Intellectually, I know there are limited resources, and getting very valuable data on the new WvW maps is vitally important. So I can’t fault the first reveal of the new maps as being very limited and controlled access.

But let me tell you what it feels like, emotionally. Bad. Really bad. Like I was cheated. Like Arenanet is hiding behind lawyerese “we define words differently than normal people” nonsense.

Whatever, it’s not worth getting upset over. But Arenanet, you need to get your stuff together and figure out a communication strategy that actually works, because you are just failing miserably right now and making amateur mistakes.

Is sharing API Keys with other players ok to do, or should I keep this information to myself? I wasn’t sure if say giving someone an API Key would put me at risk for account compromisation, or something related to that.

Yes, it’s fine to share an API key with other people/websites. That’s actually the entire point of the API, to enable cool tools and such without risking account compromise. Data from the API is only read-only.

(In and of itself, sharing your API key does not increase your risk of account compromise. However, if for example you were to create an account at some website that lets you store your API key with them, do not under any circumstance reuse your game or email password.)

If you accept credit from someone else’s story, you will advance through their story until the end of the chapter. This isn’t a bug, it’s intended so you can continue to quest with your friends. It does not actually change what order you are in, once you complete that chapter, and as long as you don’t accept credit again, you’ll return to your story track.

Excess Hero Points?

How was the hero points and shards calculated?
Is it just the shards we can spend?
My warrior had over 1.1k skill but now only 384 hero points?
My guard had 7 and now has 215 hero ponits?
I’m confused as by this update.

All of your unused skill points got converted to spirit shards. (At least on a level 80 with everything unlocked. I haven’t yet checked otherwise.) Spirit shards can be used to purchase items that skill points used to be able to.

You get hero points automatically based on your level. At level 80, you have enough to unlock all skills. Hero points are used to unlock skills, and later in HoT elite specializations. You can also gain more hero points by doing skill challenges in the open world. There are 189 in the standard map, another 5 in Dry Top, 6 in Silverwastes, and more in the WvW maps.

This happened rather abruptly, a computer restart didn’t fix it, and a re-installation would take days…

Currently on “Romke’s final voyage” and this problem occurred at the start.

I can’t pinpoint what may have lead to this, something just… broke.

Yes, it’s an exploit. When other items that had similar effects (town clothes, toy items, other transforms, etc) were found, they were disabled in WvW. If you know the specific item being used, you should put in a bug report.

I think the ideal solution is to add a permission into the guild ranks that enables that rank to have API access. That’ll give guild masters the ability to figure out the privacy situation themselves. Unfortunately, that involves interaction between quite a few subsystems so it’ll take awhile to implement.

I like the idea, just keep in mind that guild permissions are really in need of a general overhaul. They are klunky to deal with and there are issues with needing granularity between existing items like guild invite permission needing permission to admin lower ranks, and all sorts of issues with activating/triggering/claiming credit for missions. The guild CDI a few months back had the details, so no need to rehash it all.

Doing it right would be more important to me than doing it fast.

Ranger Pets Rezzing While Invulnerable

This has probably been brought up before but it still remains a big problem.

In a significant amount of my downed fights against ranger, they will use their 3 skill with a dead pet. For some reason, the pet is still able to rez the ranger, but is invulnerable to cc or damage.

It would be great to know if you plan to fix this.

The skill revives the pet if it’s dead and then the pet revives the ranger. That part isn’t a bug.

If the pet remains invulnerable for more than a second or two, that would be a bug.

These are the easy ones to catch, and you’re right they are intrinsically spammy actions and they tend not to break. Virtually every game has spammy actions like that which don’t break, I’m talking about less obvious spammy actions. More like spamming interacts with NPCs to start events, conversations, etc. Actions/activities that are less obvious and less frequently spammed.

tl;dr: Spamming skill 1 happens all the time and is not likely to break due to buttonmashing. Spamming something less mundane can have interesting effects.

Challenge Motes are bugged [merged]

I’m not saying this is for sure what is up here since I haven’t seen the results of this particular bug’s investigation, but you could try slowing down a bit. I run into a lot of bugs, in A LOT of games where rushing or spamming or buttonmashing breaks things. It is frighteningly common even when specifically tested for. It usually always looks the same, inconsistently something does or does not happen.

I know this is a bit off topic and part of a different discussion, but if button spamming breaks so many things, then why are there so many systems designed to require it?

Combat:
- melee auto-attack basically only works if both you and target are stationary, otherwise you have to keep hitting 1 to do damage.
- ranged auto-attack stops if your target goes to the edge of the straight-line distance range, however since arrows and things arc, you can still hit beyond that and have to spam 1 to continue attacking.
- in group vs. group combat, as soon as your target is dead/stealthed/out of range/whatever, you stop autoattacking, so the only way to keep doing damage in a WvW zerg fight is to keep spamming 1

Merchant:
- if I need to buy multiple items from a merchant, gotta spam the buy button since you can only buy 1 at a time. Need 250 obsidian shards from Temple of Balthazar? Either spam the buy button 250 times, or click buy, move mouse to confirm, click buy, move mouse to confirm, repeat 23 more times.

Loot drops:
- loot bags drop to the ground instead of going straight into my inventory – so in any place with larger numbers of enemies, like WvW zergs or PvE with waves of mobs, you need to spam the loot key in order to pickup all the stuff. AOE loot was an improvement from what we had before, but it is not auto-loot.

That’s just a few things that came to me off the top of my head. If button-spamming breaks stuff, then stop putting in things that require it.

-oh, do I even need to mention champ bags/trick or treat bags/wintersday boxes-in-boxes-in-boxes mouse-breaking spam clickfests?
