Here I want to present you my own personal “hamhorn”-build.
I’m gonna structure my post like this:

1. Intro & Link
Well I am a main warrior and I have a few hundred hours of playing both 2 of my lvl-80 wars. Currently I am rank 30 in sPvP and did get there by solo and team q even before the faster ranking in the recent patch.
I quit playing hotjoin since I got to rank 8 as I was looking for something that would be less zergy and more competitive with more tactics involved.
Anyway that’s enough to my person lets get to the link:

2. Why not X?
- Hambow
Before the recent patch I played hambow for quite some time but since it was nerfed I didn’t really like the dmg-output it offered… and playing my DD-Ele (even tried some other builds) in sPvP – well I guess you know what followed. I quit sPvP for some time and went farming for ascended gear, leveling my sending warrior to 80 and just had a nice time with my guild.
But about 2 weeks ago I again tried sPvP and as I knew I wouldn’t like the damage from hambow I tried hamhorn – hammer, axe+warhorn. It works pretty nice, i don’t claim to be good at this game but to date I didn’t loose any 1v1 and if I wasn’t able to kill my enemy (btw I’m not a tank, berserkers amulet with soldiers jewel) I at least survived until back-up came – either for me or my opponent :P Hambow is nice but I don’t really like the damage it offers after the patch – in group fights it is nice but in 1v1 I just lack dmg to take out one enemy quickly.
Also in group fights the axe f1 is hard to see and you can help your team bursting down your target.
- Longbow instead of Hammer
I also tried Longbow instead of hammer and LB has a secured condition removal but at the same time LB is amid between direct and condition damage. With LB I lack any stun as well (you could go for shield but I’m giving my opinion on shield in the next point). Also with hammer f1 if u don’t hit anything you are faster on maps.
- Shield
Why am I not using shield instead of Warhorn? I like the shield, I also use it in WvW and it has a nice stun in order to interrupt a Aether renewal or anything like that or/and to directly use your axe f1 afterwards. The block on #5 is nice too but with a shield I would change “+3% dmg per boon on my opponent” to “+25% increased movement speed” as without the Warhorn I’d loose the swiftness – which is for your whole team btw.
Also the shield #5 is a but egoistic comparing it to Warhorn #5 – vigor for you and your team mates as well as weakness for your enemies. Of course the weakness may not stay that long but it affects your whole team and the whole enemy team and… well it is just an amazing skill.
3. Trait setups
Atm I am running 0/10/30/0/30 with this build taking “vigor and fury if u take 10%+ dmg of your health in one strike”. As your amulet is berserker (is also tried soldiers amulet with berserkers jewel btw but i wasn’t really satisfied with my dmg-output) you are gonna take a lot of dmg (especially from thieves and warriors) anyway so why not take this trait? It helps you at maintains perma fury for ~65% crit chance or something in about these lines.
And then of course dogge march, cleansing ire amd merciless hammer, as well as burst mastery, signet recharge and +3% dmg per boon on my target.
If u don’t want the 10 points in weapons go for 0/0/30/10/30 and take empowered – or just go for 0/0/30/0/30 for the challenge ^^ (btw I wouldn’t recommend that as it is the worst option obviously) You can also go like 20/0/20/0/30 for +10% crit dmg on axe but that isn’t really worth the points in strength. If u don’t want merciless hammer rather go for 0/20/20/0/30 for unsuspecting foe (hammer #5 -> axe f1) Another option is going for 0/0/20/20/30 and taking both empowered and the reduced cd on Warhorn skills/Warhorn skills remove 1 condition – that would allow you to maintain 12 secs of swiftness on a 13 second cd without using your elite.

today i had a really fun and close tPvP match – it ended 500:500 with 2 points for us (we had 498) and 1 point for them (they had 499).
It didnt say that anyone won (I think) but still my team ended up getting no reward chest and i asked one of the other team and they got their win reward… even tho it was no win for them.
Did that happen to you as well? And what do you think about it? I mean the other team had the lead before but we had more points capped at the point of the win and i think both teams should’ve gotten half of the reward they would have gotten for a win.

Yeah I already have my build, 30/0/20/0/20 with traveller runes (in order to take -20% CD on signets and Mobile strikes as immobilize always seems to be my greatest threat)
For skills I use balanced stance, dolyak-signet and berserker’s stance

I am currently working on ascending my WvW Solo Roaming Build.
I am using GS for mobility and sword MH for mobility as well as the f1->100b combo.
Now I am not sure about my OH
- Axe: terrible in WvW (how can it even be that the thieves’ stolen ability is way more useful than our original 5 skill?)
- Mace: nice in PvE but the lack of defense (no mobility, blocks whatsoever) makes it bad in WvW imo
- Warhorn: good for swiftness and vigor/weakness and I like it in PvE, but in WvW there are better options (especially for Solo Roaming)
- Shield: used to run with this and I think it is probably my favorite to date – stun for #3 or #F1 on sword or against ressing/stomping enemies & 3 sec block
- Sword: well… that’s the question:
I never used Sword OH as I always run power on my warrior – but it seems like the second #4 skill has nice dmg if u are able to “land” it – also the block is mainly against ranged enemies but on a shorter CD than the one from shield
What would you recommend me? Shield or sword (I have no condition dmg at all) or any other OH weapon?
In all seriousness, I think or settled on a build (pay no attention to the boon duration…..)

It’s decently viable in WvW. No worse than any other D/D setup, unless you’re fighting a corrupt boon necro or boon steal thief. I use it more for team roaming, rather than solo roaming though.
30 into arcane without elemental attunement?…
and 10 into air without zephyrs boon?… let’s just assume he did not pay that much attention to the traits…

The only thing that I don’t like about that build is that you have 11% crit dmg. Nice build though, not sure if I want to go for the +20% boon duration in my food too – that’s the question I always ask myself after getting up in the morning :P but for now I’m ok with my boon duration
ah yeah the only thing I don’t like is that my daggers on my asura Ele are soooo smale I can barely see them which makes every investment that isn’t for a fractal/legendary dagger a questionable decision
I think about a human Ele but I just love my asura and my armor and that’s why I’m always gonna stick with itI had the same concern so I bought one of those items that let you increase the size of your character from the tp. Now my asura is at max hight and the weapon sets are clearly visible without having me to zoom in.
You mean the one from the gem store? The one that let’s you fully recreate your character (except race, class and name)

Elementalists do not have that many dodges? Thief got more I heard. Is that right? How you survive in WvW?
it depends, with my mix Ele build (double daggers) I have 100% vigor uptime (10 in arcana: renewing stamina) and then I have a lot of dodges.
In order to have more dodges a thief has to go with at least 15 into athletics. But it’s right they can have more dodges especially with the one signet and the vigor on heal and with withdraw and with s/d #3
But as an Ele your main defense lays in your ability to heal yourself for a lot (and of course to dodge attacks and that’s why the Ele skill cap is relatively high – you need the dodges to survive, without dodging you have no chance at all)
This means Ele is weak against burst a you most of the time can’t out heal the enemy’s burst but this also means that you are very good in a long fight – especially if you also have superior Sigil of battle and boon duration, permanent 12-25 might stacks and perma fury allow you too go less offensive and put more stats into toughness/vita/healing – which is needed because as I said light armor and lowest base hp
Highest damage in game? I thought thief have that?
at least in PvE even a dead Ele can outburst a thief if he used staff earth #2 → fire #2 → fire #5 and then gets killed.
In WvW/PvE thief is better than Elementalist for pure burst

I was thinking of switching to the 75% setup, but I’m losing +50 to all stats and 10% critical damage. I don’t know if it is worth it. I would like to try both setups, but it would be expensive.
but you get some longer might duration for these +15% boon duration = more dps
also all of your important boons (vigor, protection) have a longer duration and also all of your sideboons like regeneration or swiftness
I play d/d with 0/10/10/20/30 and I have 75% boon duration (30% arcana, 15% monk, 15% water, 15% traveller) – after a few seconds infight I have always between 12 and 25 might stacks because of my superior Sigil of battle. Imo if u have that Sigil go for boon duration it is amazing – in general boon duration is better for elementalist than for any other class (maybe some guardians but I don’t really know much about these) as you get a lot boons by switching between your attunements and blasting into your fire fields

Why I am playing elementalist?
- Very cool Animation :P
- My first character to reach 80 (yeah I still miss these old times)
- Nice mobility
- Nice Healing
- Fun to play (you have to evade and stuff in order to survive unlike a warrior who can “rush…. boom 7k… hundred blades… boom 40k… AA… enemy down” in PvE)
- You have the lowest base hp-pool and light armor -> unforgiving and a real challenge
- relatively high skill cap
- your hp goes up and down
- nice dmg for dungeons (for example SE P1) with fiery gs and frostbow
- nice overtime dmg with double dagger
- nice burst and sustained damage with s/d
- awesome dmg (the best ingame) with staff (eruption -> fire #2 -> Meteor = awesome damage in dungeons)
Hes probably full zerker because he doesnt have berzerkers power to get a 15% damage boost or an extra 10% crit damage or 300 power for that matter. 300 defense, a shield and the trait equals a good amount of survivability but I just like 1 shotting with the classics
that way nobody can call you OP when you kill them with a vanilla warrior

the idea itself is not bad and has some nice thoughts behind it but imo that would be a complete change to elementalists – it is like you would add cds to thieves’ weapon skills.
That would completely change the class and I think no one would like that

There are a few trait setups you can use with sword/shield & GS:
30/0/20/0/20, 20/0/30/0/20, 20/0/20/10/20 or 20/0/20/0/30
I like the 20/0/20/10/20 one with either leg specialist or empower, but atm I am running 20/0/20/0/30 for +25% increased movement speed, +3% dmg/boon on my target and break immobilize with movement skills
As for my gear I use full zerker weapons and armor (still exotic) and for my back and
amulett it is cavalier and the rings/accessories it is knights – or the other way round, doesn’t really matter
Sword and gs is just super fast, I love it – almost nobody can catch me (if u want even more mobility go for Warhorn but I experienced that I am addicted to my shield when I don’t have two 2-handed weapons)

If u have no might stacking already guardian is always nice – I don’t know how long these 12 stacks last but I think 2 guards should be able (with some boon duration maybe?) to let the team have a lot of might stacks, but the damage from warriors is just incredible.
And a full warrior party with might on critical hits with gs and all running for great justice could also have ~25 might stacks (15 from for great justice, the rest from either elite or crits) easily
All in all warrior have way better DPS but if u are looking at the DPS boost a guardian can give a team that doesn’t stack might already maybe the guard wins

Axe is a nice weapon but in WvW I prefer Sword as it has better mobility and with the 3 or with the f1 → weapon swap → 2 combo you also have a lot of damage – but if I had a legendary axe than I would run axe too ^^
For PvE go either GS, Axe & Warhorn or GS, Axe & Mace for maximum DPS with one ranged weapon available (rifle = mor single target, longbow = more AoE and more group support via the blast finisher of the 3).
Typical is 30/25/0/0/15 and berserker-stuff, but you could also mix in some knights/cavaliers trinkets to survive longer if u need that. Runes of the scholar or ruby orbs, orbs are cheaper and you don’t have to be above 90% health to get the full boost so that’s what I’d prefer.
Healing signet is better than healing surge in both PvE and WvW (btw also in sPvP) and it regenerates your health so that you could stay above 90% health for scholar rather easily, probably easier than with healing surge.
Then WvW… Mace and GS works only if
a) your enemy is bad at dodging
b) your enemy is lagging
c) your enemy has no stability
d) you can somehow manage to get skull crack of even against skilled players (shield 4 -> f1 for example)
It can be nice but you could also go for something else like bow/gs, hammer/gs, maybe even try hambow in WvW
Berserker armor can still be used (maybe lyssa/melandru runes or stay with ruby orbs for dmg) and berserker weapons too but then at least have some toughness in your trinkets (I like mix between knights and cavaliers) – you could also buff your vitality but as a warrior you have almost 20k anyway
Energy Sigil on one weapon is nice, I like to run this build:

change dolyak-signet to signet of stamina against condi classes and berserker’s stance to balanced stance against cc enemies (for example warriors) – otherwise leave it (can be helpful against thieves, for escaping,…) or change it to endure pain
You could also go 30/0/20/0/20 or 20/0/30/0/20 or 20/0/20/10/20 (empower or leg specialist) but I love the traits discipline gives me – you could also change your grandmaster trait in discipline to the one that reduces your used adrenaline by 33%.
The combo is: f1 on sword then interrupt it by weapon swap to gs and hundred blade your enemy to death – 4 sec immobilize (could also go gs/bow with the 5 on bow but that’s harder to land or you could use throw bolas)
Also the sword and gs give you awesome (!) mobility – if u want even more change your shield to Warhorn (and change the first trait In defense too)
hm ok the first one sounds interesting but mace f1 is pretty bad as it is incredibly visible, easy to dodge or avoid or anything
and for the second: sounds nice but I don’t like going condi on warrior – only on engineer and necro :P

atm I am playing Engi in sPvP but I also want to play my Warrior in non-PvE content.
So I am asking: do you know if there is a nice sPvP Build for Warriors? I know that Hamboe is still being played with but I don’t know which traits I should pick – 0/20/30/0/20? or anything else to get more adrenaline?
And do you know a nice WvW Build (preferably with GS)?
Any Build is welcome I need to start practicing with my War.

somewhere i read that the usefulness of healing power above 500 is reduced – is that right? because at the moment i’m running a build with 800 something healing power and dont know if i should change it
I already tested several new builds in hotjoin and solo-Q and everytime I return to the D/D x/x/x/30/30 build. New traits (Burning Fire and Diamond Skin) appear to be useless. So our old standard-build is still the most effective build out there I think. It can be used for both offense and defense just by switching runes and amulett.
Unless you play well coordinated tPvP where your team carries you, you can’t really run anything else due to the lack of defense
i usually run 0/15/0/25/30 – what trait do you use in 30 water? because i found that mostly viable for aura share
so I shouldn’t consider it a bug?

yeah but the problem is that I have to choose either perma vigor or elemental attunement – elemental attunement is pretty bad as a master trait but I just love it and I have around 75% boon duration (could be 80%) and I just like having that protection or swiftness
and as I go for boon duration I’ll also go for sigil of battle and therefore have permanently at least 8-12 might stacks but I can’t go for energy sigil at the same time unfortunately
ok nice, i got two things to say:
1. you can also switch attunements while channeling your skills (fire 3/5, water 2/5 or anything) that sometimes makes a nice difference…

I’m sure most of you already know this (I also know it for months now) but I’m not sure wether it is a bug or not.
For example: Ele with Sigil of Energy and Battle – only one Sigil works, as they share an internal cooldown. Are they supposed to act like that or is it just something arenanet didn’t want to fix?
I’d really like to see this being changed so that I can use both Sigils

I want to run an elementalist with Aether renewal 0/0/20/20/30 (though its sad that I don’t have 25 in water) with stability in earth magic to make sure I get Aether renewals full heal/condi remove (in PvE/WvW)
Now theres only one question:
Should I use clerics or soldiers? Or a mix (what mix exactly?)
Because soldiers has power mainstat, but the healing power from clerics would be nice too…

lately I fought against some thieves in solo q that were running s/p and using their 3 to stun and damage me and so on – do you know what build they are running? Is it becoming famous?

i use flamethrower in spvp, but I mainly have it for the 3 – it’s a knockback and very useful on my bunker build with bombs, tool kit and condi/prec/toughness
I also use the 4 if I have the time and 5 to prevent thieves from backstabbing me/elemantalists from using their updraft + burning speed combo (only bad stun breaks for engis unfortunately) or I use the 5 for stomping if my smoke bomb isn’t up yet
But as much as I have seen ft-builds are not as viable as condi p/s builds

Mace/Shield & GS
Mix between berserker and knights (also some cavaliers if u want to, probably go for exactly 50% crit chance)
then 0/20/20/0/30
- arms: atm 10 are ok but they’ll put the +50% crit chance against stunned foes in master tier
- defense (or tactic, always mix ’me up): condi removal
- discipline: could go somewhere else but atm -10% used adrenaline is nice – 20 into strength would be more gs damage but I personally like the -5secs on weapon swap
other options:
20/20/10/0/20 (less condi removal, probably go more condi remov in skills)
20/20/20/0/10 (not the -5secs on weapon swap)
U should know that kind of build, if not:
Mace f1 for long stun and then change to gs and go hundred blades with 100% crit chance… but you probably won’t get off the full hundred blades unless you are fighting against an afker – where u wouldn’t need a build with a combi as afkers are usually easy to deal with ^^

I wanted to try some class that is no heavy armor class and that I maybe will feel comfortable with. The options I had were necro, Mesmer and engi – after some time I decided on engi (because they have style and I have a SAB pistol and SAB shield ^^)
But I have almost no experience with engis, I thought about that build:
pistol/shield
amulet condi/precision/toughness
Healing turret
bomb kit
Elixier gun
[add any weapon kit] – probably the repair kit or what that is called again
but I don’t know anything about the current condi-engi build and would like to hear some examples from you… I know that engi is complexe but I don’t have any problems with failing horribly in the first few hours of trying that class :P

so I am a thief and always going solo q – I shouldn’t go far and help my team to get mid is that right? and then maybe rush off to decap far (maybe even cap) and destroy treb on khylo or is the treb not worth the fight? (I think about Mesmer repair runs)
any build will be viable: just go 30 in acrobatics and double sd (with energy sigills as the vigor will get nerfed) or double dp and unless u are out of combat, you’ll have 3ini/10secs – the 2 ini on stealth really just impacts perma-stealth-thieves in wvw, dd are probably more viable than before and the vigor nerf can easily be avoided with energy-sigills
so no problem for thieves in sPvP, I’m really looking forward to that patch because then I’ll try dd in sPvP again

thought I could transmute my PvE armor into PvP (like cultural t3) so that I don’t have to wait for me reaching 70. (it was 70 wasn’t it?)
but yeah the skin into sPvP I know, and for the other answer: it was just about the look of weapons/armor/back pieces… I used my shattered dragon skin in PvE and would love to have an option to transmute it into spvp
Another thief QQ thread ? After dec 10 thief is going to be a worthless but even all those nerfs won’t help nubs to counter thieves . It’s better to just delete the class now .
what? You don’t understand: he just wants to not have to click to see the enemy after his stealth goes away – this has nothing to do with crying about how op thieves are or something like that.
Also, the only thing that changes at dec 10th is that the vigor and a few traits get nerfed – but the normal initiative regain will be improved and this actually only makes dp-perma-stealth-thieves useless. dd-thieves will get better, sd-thieves can take 30 in acrobatics and double sd to get their ini back (maybe even with energy-sigils as the vigor gets nerfed), dp-thieves can’t have perma-stealth anymore – so nothing that troubles the overall thief
to the topic: I really think that would be nice, even as a stealth-thief-player :P
Well, you know… you can get pvp skins with pve gold, using transmutation crystals, if I am not mistaken.
Why can’t we get pve gold with pvp glory?
How can I use transmutation crystals in sPvP? Never heard about that.
Would probably help me, so if someone know the answers – u know what to do

And if you give rewards that can be spent in pve (gold, skins, tradable stuff) you will make heart of the mists look less like a minigame area and more like part of the world.
you are right, maybe there should be gem store skins or some things like that buy able for glory – even if it is a lot of glory, then you could also make permanent finishers be buyable.
That wouldnt spoil PvP because: lvl 50 20-slot bags are HUGE for PvE players (10 gold per, that is something) and still there are not many people just going for that because it takes too long.
Then I’d also like to see character/bank/bag slot buyable for glory, would be soooo nice for pvpers – not to forget laurels
(and I wouldn’t forget to use my glory booster because then glory is actually of use for me if I already have my perfect skins – that I sadly don’t have :P )
Well, you know… you can get pvp skins with pve gold, using transmutation crystals, if I am not mistaken.
Why can’t we get pve gold with pvp glory?
Yeah that would be an option but it shouldn’t be too much – otherwise sPvP will be full of PvE players who just want to farm gold ^^
btw @ anyone: transmutation crystals for PvP? do you mean buying the PvE (e.g.) weapon and then transmutating it on a spvp weapon or what?
and if yes: also works with the PvP weapons you can get for free?
because I have to choose: fun or gold?
that will always make a very simple and ease decision-finding and if you love life you will always go for fun.
if you have to ask yourself first, just stick to pve and go for your gold
I do pick sPvP that was just the question that is always behind it – with the gold I could get myself some more skins.
Playing PvE = getting gold = getting skins for PvE and sPvP
Playing sPvP = getting glory = getting skins for sPvP only (not all skins, for example temporary ones)
That is the thing I wanted to say with that, if you would get gold from sPvP it would be more balanced
Glory should be like Balthazar Faction from GW1. We should be able to buy some things like chests that gives random stuffs.
I’m not talking about rank chests, something more like achievements chests or like the chest you get when you gain a wvw rank level or even a World Boss chest so it would be like zaishen chests. You could try and get some pvp exclusive items.It doesnt necessarily need to be pure gold, as long as we can use our glory into something else than rank chests.
nice idea, really! but the problem with that is that that shouldn’t be usable in PvE and there had to be permanent finishers in it so that that is like gold (which makes it impossible to separate it from pvE/WvW) – also:
- more rng

Imo it would be silly to add a gold reward because PvP is a different game to PvE and Wvw essentially. There is no use for gold in PvP because everything is brought with glory.
As i said: Even PvP players could buy themselves some skins from the TP and atm I am mainly playing sPvP – but I don’t get anything for my PvE-characters which is a shame because I have to choose: fun or gold?
i am even thinking about leaving pve/wvw for spvp with the exception of living story for the skins – the problem is that if I want to invest some time into spvp then I loose a great amount of stuff from pve – even if it is just gold from farming frostgorge sound

I am a WvW player and go to PvE in order to get the skins, achievement points and stuff. But i would also like to play sPvP (only rank 13 atm) – the problem is i dont get anything from it.
So what would you think of a gold reward in sPvP, not too much but so that you can actually play sPvP even if you are working on a legendary, just to take time out and relax a bit, while still getting something for your aim? (btw i am not working on a legendary :P )
It doesnt have to be much but I think even pure sPvP players would benefit from it as then they can buy themselves skins from the trading posts without the need to farm in PvE.

I would say: dont go for the temporary achievements, I only complete them for the achievement points and the rewards – rather go and make other things more rewarding regarding points and skins (no temporary skills please). you showed that for tequatl and ta p3, but the skins should also be viable after the patch to give new players the chance to get the old skins they missed as well.
You should also implement the “wardrobe feature” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAOlCkaton8) bogotter talked about – then i wouldnt have to fear that a better skin will come out in one week or so… buying transmutation splitters is obviously not ideal and crafting another ascended backpiece… no thanks ^^
