Woohoo. A bug which helped rangers which we’ve been reporting for over a year finally gets fixed.

Skirmishing IX—Honed Axes: This trait now reduces the recharge time on main hand axe skills by 20%.
Pointless Change, Axe 2 is already a low cooldown ability, and Axe 3 Is kitten near perma weakness anyway

Wilderness Survival X—Martial Mastery: This trait no longer reduces recharge on greatsword and spear skills. This trait now grants 1 second of vigor when you successfully evade an attack with a sword skill.
Basically killed Martial Mastery for me on all my builds, and you will never pick Martial Mastery over Offhand Training Ever…If you were doing it before, you were doing it wrong

Nature Magic IX—Two-Handed Training: This trait now reduces the recharge time on greatsword and spear skills by 20% in addition to its current effects.
So you kill one trait, to make another crappier trait more appealing……not a good idea in game balancing

All of these implement an oft-requested fix. For some inexplicable reason, the ranger weapon-specific damage buff and 20% cooldown reduction were in separate traits. In other classes, both of these are in one trait. So rangers had to take two traits to get what other classes were getting with one trait.

These changes fix it for axe, GS, and spear. Unfortunately martial mastery decreases sword cooldown, but does not give it a damage bonus. The vigor on evade is mostly pointless. If you successfully evaded, you didn’t dodge, so you don’t need vigor. The only way to take advantage of it is to preferentially dodge first, then evade. But then you lose the 10% damage bonus when endurance is full from the Steady Focus trait, so I don’t see most people using that strategy.

The Honed Axe Change is awful…Because its not really doing anything…

The trait itself is awful in the first place because its a 10% increase in damage on basically the auto attack, because Splitblade is awful in terms of Power damage, and Winter’s Bite isn’t much better (its the same damage as your Auto Attack… so yea…)
Reducing those by 20% is pointless….as Splitblades cd is 6 seconds… (so 4 and a half seconds now) and Winter’s Bite goes to 8 seconds, and the only reason you used it in the first place, was the Weakness it provided, which was perma anyway

Martial Sword Change again..pointless change, you’re not making sword better ..You’re only making Greatsword Builds worse.

Mainly because landing that Maul in the first place in a fight is a pain in the rear

Shouts themselves are still fairly crappy on a Ranger

The Rez one no one uses anymore
Guard, the only reason it got used because it was Low in Cooldown for the Shout Builds, If any of the other abilities would of been of equal cooldown (like Sic’Em) they probably would of been used over Guard….The only time the ability has ever been used for the actual ability itself was back in the day when i could send my pets over walls to attack people…That is the only time.
Protect Me – Is still Meh, usually ends up with your pet instantly dying unless you bring a Bear.. but then you’re bringing a Bear….so you’re screwed either way
Sic’Em, still crap…No on uses it because it grants damage or speed to a pet, because usually that breaks anyway, The only reason you run the ability, is to troll Stealthers.

As someone who plays a Venom Aura thief also…if you see thieves with these after the patch..AVOID them

Because it would proc reveal if you hit a 2nd target.

Ahh, I was thinking that might be it, but I never actually tested to see if that was a problem..

That could explain why i end up not being stealthed sometimes when I use longbow.

Welp, BM Bunker doesn’t appear to be changing much in the patch

Counterattack: This skill now reliably knocks foes back when an attack is blocked.
Good, sometimes this skill was annoying to use, since usually it stopped me from moving to do that stupid kick
Crossfire: This skill now correctly applies bleeding only when hitting from behind or from the side.
Not sure about this, mainly cause I didn’t think it was bugged before
Slash—Kick—Pounce: Improved functionality to allow players to cancel the skill chain with less difficulty.
Evasive Strike: This skill can now be used while moving.
That’s great
Healing Skills
Heal as One: This skill now has a cast time of 1 second, down from 1 1/4 second, and the base heal has been increased by 8%.
could potentially use this in BM Bunker now, this will probably put it close to 8k healed with my current setup, and its big drawback was the cast time
Utility Skills
“Guard”: This skill now has a recharge time of 25 seconds, up from 15 seconds.
And there goes the second Bunker spec for Rangers, sorry Faux.
Lightning Reflexes: This skill now removes immobilized, chilled and crippled.
Good Change, will probably end up my bar full time now
Viper’s Nest: This skill is now a poison field.

Skirmishing 5—Tail Wing: This trait now grants 9 seconds of swiftness, up from 5 seconds.
Perma Swiftness almost ina fight, pretty nice
Skirmishing IX—Honed Axes: This trait now reduces the recharge time on main hand axe skills by 20%.
Pointless Change, Axe 2 is already a low cooldown ability, and Axe 3 Is kitten near perma weakness anyway
Skirmishing XII—Moment of Clarity: This trait now applies the Moment of Clarity effect to you and your pet on interrupt and now grants 200% damage on the next attack, up from 150%. This trait is now able to stack with the Attack of Opportunity effect for a total of 250% damage. This trait now has a recharge time of 10 seconds, up from 5 seconds.
Good Change, makes Hilt Bash not redundant anymore

The problem with Barkskin isn’t that its weak Anet, The Problem with Barkskin is it occupies a space with our only decent Condition Removal

good for builds that don’t use Spiders
Beastmastery X—Ferocious Training: This new master tier trait replaces Vigorous Training. This trait now guarantees bird, moa and jellyfish pets to critically hit on every third hit.
Birds already crit a lot, but it could make Moa’s a bit more interesting, esp if the F2’s get made better

Keeping with granting Rangers more Active Condition removal this trait now removes 2 Conditions from the Ranger when he Interrupts a target. Dazes and Stun Duration are increased by 100%. This makes weapon attacks such as the longbow knockback, path of scars, shortbow and great sword dazes as active condition removals for the Ranger.
New Trait Added
Flight Control – This Trait has replaced Trap Potency which was combined with Trapper’s Expertise, This Trait increases Shortbow/Axe Mainhand range to 1200.

I don’t agree with Trap trait’s being in Skirmishing, they should be moved into our Power/Condition Duration, some have asked for them to be moved into Wilderness Trait line without taking into account you will be able to run Flame/Spike/Sun Spirit/Spirit of Nature, while having BM tank setup…..

Walk me through why you think they should be in the Power/Condition Duration Line vs Precision/Crit Damage line?

I was doing a Pet Version of my Trait update a while back, Mainly to show how we could change Pets in this game to be something other then carbon copies of one another

Bears

A. Brown Bears
Shake it Off – Cures 3 Conditions Now
Bite – Casts Regen on itself (No Change)
Slash – Applies 1 Vulnerability to the Target for 5 Seconds
Defy Pain – No Change

B. Black Bears
Enfeebling Roar – Strips 2 Boons from Targets in 600 Radius (20 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Steals 2 Boons from the Target (25 Second Cooldown)
Slash – Applies 1 Vulnerability Stack to the Target for 5 seconds
Defy Pain – Converts Conditions on itself into Random Boons (45 Second Cooldown)

C. Polar Bear
Icy Roar – Converted to Icy Charge, Now Bullrush’s the target leaving behind a Frost Field (Think Burning Speed from Elementalists, but Frost Instead), Chill Increased to 7 Seconds. (20 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Immobilizes the Target for 4 Seconds
Slash – Applies Cripple to the target for 3 Seconds.
Defy Pain – Changed to South Paw, Knocks the Target on the Ground for 3 Seconds. (30 Second Cooldown)

D. Arctodus
Rending Maul – Change to Protective Stance, Absorbs 15% of damage done to allies in the area for 8 seconds, 30 second Cooldown.
Bite – Changed to Intercept, Charges the Ranger and Takes the Next Hit intended for him.
Slash – Applies 1 Stack of Vulnerability to the target for 5 seconds.
Defy Pain – Changed to Bodyguard Splits damage between Ranger and the itself for 5 seconds – 30 Second Cooldown.

E. Murellow
Poison Cloud – Change to Sickly Aura – now transfers 2 conditions from itself to enemies in a 600 Yard Radius every 2 seconds for 10 Seconds. (25 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Now Applies Poison and Weakness for 10 seconds (25 Second Cooldown)
Slash – Applies 1 Stack of Bleed for 5 Seconds to the target
Defy Pain – Changed to Disease Prone – Converts Boons on itself into Conditions (25 Second Cooldown)

As you can see, I’ve Made Each Bear Unique and Have a specific thing they’re good at.

Brown Bears being the Standard Bear, Black Bear Being all about Boons, Polar Bear being all about CC, Arctodus be all about Protecting its master, and Murellow Being all about Spreading Conditions.

Vigorous Training – This trait has been redesigned Birds/Jellyfish Grant Vigor on Swap for 5 seconds, Moa’s (F2) Abilities are now Blast Finishers.

Remorseless – This has been redesigned, Your pet now consumes a condition on itself every 5 seconds, Causes your pet to have a 15% chance to cleave on critical hits, Your pet now applies 5 stacks of Vulnerability on its next attack each time it consumes a Condition.

Incoming huge buff to warriors

In my opinion the sigil changes and the balance of this game will be good if the following conditions are going to happen:

Warriors:
1. Remove/Nerf Cleansing Ire Trait
2. Keep Healing Signet as powerful as it is right now.

4. Increase all the CC skills’ Cool Down.

Ranger:
1. Nerf all the aspect of Spirit Ranger.
2. Remove the evade effect from Stalker’s Strike (Dagger #4)
3. Decrease Serpent’s Strike’s evade duration.
4. Decrease Spirit of Natural’s HP.
5. Give Ranger Pet’s basic damage back to original. (Back before when BM ranger exist).

Elementalist:
(Overall Ele looks good after next patch).

Mesmer: Stay the same.

Guardian: Stay the same.

So…

Remove any reason to run a ranger in SPvP (nerfing Spirit)
Break pretty much every decent Build a Ranger has (The Gutting of Sword/Dagger)
Top it off by reversing a Nerf they got in the first place because Bads thought that you shouldn’t have to fear the Pet from a Pet Class, but which is now moot as you’ve killed all their specs

Ok, I’m going to spell it out to you guys, like i did on the SPvP Forums

Condition Damage isn’t overpowered, hell Condition Duration isn’t overpowered either

What Makes Conditions Powerful isn’t the damage or duration, Its how many conditions you can put on a target at once.

For instance, 25 Stacks of Bleed isn’t overpowered, In fact its rather underpowered because its 1 condition and can be removed rather instantly….

25 Stacks of Bleed + Chill + Cripple + Vulnerability + Weakness is 10x more scary then just 25 stacks of bleed, Despite the next 4 Conditions Doing NO damage..

Because its a lot harder to get rid of them.

You see this in my BM Bunker Build, I don’t run Intimidation Training on my Spiders because I like Cripple, I run it because it fills up the Opponents Bar with an extra Condition that lets my actual Damage Conditions do damage.

This is the same reason Signet of Spite is scary, Its a rather low damage ability, But at the same time..Its 6 dang conditions instantly on the target.

Hell, This is why Necro’s became scarier when they added Torment and Burning, It wasn’t that those conditions did damage, Its that they gained 2 more conditions they could put on ya.

As a player i dont like the condition meta so i decided to go for a tanky (p/t/v) warrior build with heavy condition removal.Well as expected i do 0 damage and i am ok with that since i am a tank/control.The problem is that someone with condition damage gear (coe armor) has the same armor/vitality with me but he is doing A LOT of damage he just have to kite and stack conditions even if i cleanse them he can easly restack them.My point is that its far more rewarding to go for condition damage rather than power because conditions are easy to stack, hard to remove and doing decent damage over time.I was forced to buy coe armor and play a condition build and it was pretty easy to 1v1 but i dont like this playstyle…

here’s a question for you, How much damage do you hit for on your auto swings?

The the rangers equivalent of an all signet thief 1-shotting people with BS. Big burst but cant be repeated often and leaves you with very little defensive options other than running away.

Its biggest strength though has got to be simply that noone seeing it coming from a ranger :P

Technically the thief can still backstab again afterward within 4 seconds…. it won’t be as high, but it’ll be pretty dang high even without the signets.

There is a buff you can get for an additional +10% dmg from the forge I believe. If you combine that with the signet of the hunt/wild combo(if built to have signet’s effect you) in power/zerker gear it’s very possible I’ve seen it break 20k. Do keep in mind you can be lvl 79 in decent gear and still be upscaled.. more than likely the person that hit ya was 60-70s with that figure

You seen it break 20k in WvW/PvP? I’m just having a hard time believing such thing even exists in the game anymore (after all the nerfs). Most I’ve ever been hit on my warrior is about 10k from a full glass thief’s backstab and I thought that was very high :S

Even doing a kitten poor job at it on my thief, I can break 12k on backstab easily..hell I’ve been hit for 10k backstab while being full bunker on my Ranger.

The key difference between the Ranger and the Thief doing it is, My ranger has to run up to you, and not use any other attacks before hand (otherwise you’ll waste the 150% Signet of Hunt bonus) where as my thief can instantly teleport to you, from 1500 Range away and hit you with A high Damage mug/cloak and dagger/+the backstab itself all kitten near instantly.

as for this video.. he definetly would have done better vs that ranger if he had used the venoms one at a time, especially since the ranger pulls all conditions, starting out with the poison venom and then wait untill pet pulls it gives you a timing for you to burst with torment

and immobilize can’t be stacked following devourer venom so pls no1 try that, it’s changed. you have to wait untill the condition is off the person in order to restack it

You can’t go past 3 instances of Devourer venom on someone..So 9 seconds is the max you’ll get on someone.. So its not doing a whole lot for your Pets..

However the other 2 work just fine.

Sorry but in my opinion this build is complete cheese. I’m not a fan of anything that requires a 1 time burst to go through to be successful.

Against a lot of players, you don’t need Thieves Guild, I generally pop Thieves guild just for the video because its funny.

Conditions melting targets faster than any D/D Berserker build ever could.

Just shows you how broken Conditions are.

it is the leeching venoms trait – life siphon dmg – not the conditions themselves

Been playing this build for a long time (even before the link below) (wvw only): solo, small group and guild raid
It realy shines when within small roaming party and decent group up to 20/25 ppl

It is realy nice fun to trigger venoms on solo target thou ;d

I use perplexity runes to apply another condition (confusion) on target. Can apply up to 6-7 conditions within 1-2s

and the one who should get more tribute is the one who tried to show community this build is fun to play:

and btw:
dire condition engi has smaller impact dmg due to no siphon dmg, but a lot more sustain condition dmg on target

Not sure if it was him or not I got this build from, I just remember reading a post one day talking about how Venomshare goes to your Thieves Guild and I was like “well that sounds oped as hell” so I tried it out and find it absolutely hilarious.

But yea, I didn’t create this build or come up with it…And it could of been his post I read..

That’s generally how I play my thief..I play it with builds that are more hilarious then insanely good at winning every fight.

The Glass Cannon spec I run…I die most of the time, but when I one shot someone I get so much entertainment..

This build I win more 1v1’s but I still lose at least 4/10 times..

Anyway, Yea…If they live through the initial onslaught It can be tough… C/D isn’t face roll easy like D/P is with stealth..So you can be countered somewhat (unless they’re a ranger, then you can just C/D the pet)

What i’m trying to determine though is if Sigil of Earth Applies to Thieves Guild Pets…

One of the things that DAOC did to help separate people from the Zergs is divide up the rewards for killing people based on who hit the person.

For example… in GW2…if 60 people unload on someone, all 60 people get whatever that person is worth in terms of WXP, so lets say 50 points..

Now if a solo person was to come along and kill that person, They’d get 50 points….So Zerging its more profitable the more people you have in the long run.

in DAOC, it was the opposite, if 60 people unloaded on someone, They might give 5 or 6 RPs a piece… however..if a solo person kill someone solo, They got 2k RP’s

For clarification this is a bug that is ONLY affecting shortbow, at least for rangers. When I trigger sun spirit proc with shortbow i get 3 ticks of burning. When I trigger sun spirit proc with any other ranger weapon I only get 2 ticks of burning. Hopefully that helps track things down.

That’s odd….

The only thing I could think that maybe would cause an issue like that would be if the check to apply the bleed on shortbow counted as a hit itself..As it’d check to see if you’re behind the target before applying.

Out of curiosity, what is the point in transferring servers?

For example, Emo talks about wanting to make t2 competitive? How exactly are you going to make T2 more competitive when T1 isn’t competitive? The Ranking system is nothing more then a Coverage Index in terms of population….You’ll never achieve making the ranking system anymore then that. Hence why the servers have never been competitive against one another in the first place.

So if the desire is getting more competitive fights, You’ll achieve nothing by transferring servers.

I’ve gotta agree with some of the comments here. Not only thieves can stealth-spike and stability negates interrupting your opponents finisher as well.
Still… Stealth spiking is pretty B.S.

And although I’m sure I’ll get sandblasted for my QQing about it… I’m going to anyway.
I don’t care if you’re squishy… I’m a Ranger and I win fights unstealthed and without blind spams all the time. If I can do it you can too. On top of that, it’s not even the stealth that irritates me… It’s that when a thief stealths you know they’re going to be visible again with just about full health <__<.

You are wining fights on a ranger? Against equally geared opponents? In which alternate reality are you lining good sir? Honestly if you win more than you lose as a ranger I am VERY impressed. Blind “spam” is the thief version of protection or aegis “spam” and the thief version of stability, the difference being it works only for one target. Usually the reason why thieves come back from stealth with full health is not the in stealth regeneration but the thief useing her healingskill in stealth, many of us “protect” the use of healing with stealth. This is done for two reasons: It is harder to interruptthe healing and your opponent does not know you used your healing skill, which makes you look stronger than you actually are.

Stealth or invisibility does not prevent interrupts, not even the ones used by the downed player.

I wonder why this causes so much grief and why mesmer or engineer stealth stomps are not even mentioned.

Besides there are lots of those kind of mechanics in the game, mistform stomp, deathshroud stomp, mistform ressurection….

I really do not understand why of all things thieves can do this is supposed to be a problem.

I can understand if people complain about the damage (especially on sword 1), though. But even there people usually complain about the wrong skills (like backstab while the real problem is mug and CnD).

So wait, you think Rangers are terrible at 1v1?

I love how people keep saying hammer warrior is there for CC. When most CC is done by other professions through ranged aoe. I have almost 3000 hours on a warrior and can tell you that Ranger Front trap, Spike Trap with ground targeting and entagle are way more effective at CC an enemy zerg than anything warrior has.

Further more Static field, frozen ground on an Ele way better than what the hammer does.

Gurdian Walls anyone Spectral wall much better.

People who think warrior CC is best at CCing enemy zergs are just simply don’t know about what other professions can do.

No…Just no on Frost Trap, Spike Trap and Entangle being better CC against an Enemy Zerg

Frost Trap will flat out be instantly ignored by most if not all of the people in the zerg, Spike Trap will be instantly cleared.. and I mean Instantly, and Entangle if you can get close enough to use it will also be instantly killed

How you have 3k hours on a Hammer Warrior, and not know this i’ll never guess

Have you never actually seen a Zerg Train? do you not understand the concept of Cleaving? Conditions are utterly useless against Zerg Trains, Its why they’re all running in a bloody ball swinging their weapon while wearing PvT gear… Because it works….

The spec that will benefit the most is the 30 Marksman builds, because entangle is blah really now a days (thieves/warriors ignore it basically) and you wouldn’t use Nature’s Spirit, so that leaves Rampage as One….

Eh ? No it does not. It’s actually pretty good, can revive a lot of people (since you can use the active several times) and grants a nice health regen. I use it sometimes in wvw, it can revive a lord and so, provides the same kind of utility a warrior banner does.

Also, in wvw, entangle is much better than RaO. Not everyone talks about pvp, you know…actually i’m pretty sure much more people play wvw than pvp (at least on my server).

During a large fight, if you don’t have it traited, its not going to activate more then once, and you will have to pop it instantly after being summoned before it dies…hell you pretty much have to do that now as it’ll die even in small man fights. Its good for rezzing lords if you’re fast enough basically…That’s it as far at traiting.

As for Entangle being better then ROA in World vs World vs PvP

A. I don’t play a lot of PvP, hence why you’ve never seen a video of me doing it.

B. Entangle doesn’t work vs Thieves and Warriors..To two most common classes you’ll run across solo or small manning….Zerg wise its hit or miss, If you’re chasing down another zerg with your zerg its actually decent, as you’ll usually get 5 more kills from it, But for opening Fights.. ROA is better then Entangle. for Small Manning, ROA is better cause it allows you to stomp..If stomping wasn’t a problem i’d say Entangle would be better in some cases (It works really well vs Necromancers if you can land it, and Asura…its instant death for asura)…So anyway there is a reason I switched from Entangle long ago in my videos to ROA (One of the reasons was losing out on Pain Inverter, which gave me the combo of Entangle, PI, Bonfire) Hell at this point Mistfire Wolves are better then Entangle as far as Elites go.

Hi. Your build references exotic Dire jewelry. Could you please provide some details? I cannot seem to find a source for these.

I believe you can gear Dire jewelry off NPC’s in the Cursed Shores Area, but it’d be easier to just look on the Auction House under Trinkets, search for level 80, There is a couple named pieces that sell pretty cheap that you can get.

Fenrir, if you don’t have 30 points in Marksman, you don’t use the active on Signet of the wild, nor Signet of Stones Active, bout the only one that gets used is SoR.

Unless you’re running around popping those Signets without Signet of the Beastmastery, in which case face palm

If i’m reading it correctly, all the passive does is allow the actives of our Signets to be used by us, which we normally don’t use anyway, but if you’re about to die..you pop that ability, your pet then resses you really fast and when you pop back up, you don’t have your signets actives usable (but the passives would still work with ya)
