Forzani is right about class balance, Complaining you’re going to leave cause your class isn’t balanced is always foolish. Because you’ll have equal Class Balance issues in every game.

I’ve been playing MMO’s since UO beta….In every single MMO, something has been on top, and something has been on bottom. Long as the class is playable I don’t mind it so much, a Ranger is playable..It’s not the best at everything… but it clearly sucks at some things..Clearly issues are present with the class…However you can play the class just fine.

We’re not talking about a Valkyrie from DAOC here… (For those who played DAOC and say “but valkyries were awesome” I’m talking about the release version, not the god mode version)

With that said, what was stated up above a few posts is correct, Rangers need a lot of their traits removed and made baseline, and alot combined into other traits. To much Trait Gloat in some lines while some lines are poor.

Honestly there is a lot traits in this game for every class that simply won’t be picked, and should be minor traits if anything (The res traits for most classes) but I think Ranger’s might be the worst with Trait Gloat..

Sharpening Stones was only ever good when it worked with Barrage, When they nerfed that it became mediocre….It makes a decent trait, but a poor utility because of this.

I agree with Jcbrow on Skirmishing though, It is an awful Powerline..

Half the traits are Pet Related, the other Half Trap Related

One of the biggest annoyances I come across is respeccing my character and then changing out the gear sets…I have 5 bloody gear sets right now….for 5 bloody specs on just 1 character.

If one thing was added to the game that’d i’ve love, it’d be Saved Specs with their Gear Setups.

Think Rift’s Saved Spec system.

Only I’d prefer it with a Saved Gear Setup as well. Meaning I equip the gear, i select the spec… and then I save it, If I created another spec with another gear setup, I can save it.. and when I switch between the two it automatically equips the correct gear and changes the spec.

I would actually pay for this feature.

I’m sure others would as well.

Most class utilties do their basic function well straight off the bat, and you trait to lower the cooldown and give them extra functions ontop of the basic ones.

We arent the only class with skills which require heavy investment, but we are certainly the class with the most. I think only our Survival skills are good “out of the box” with no traiting.

Who else requires heavy investment? The only one I can think of who can even invest as heavily into traits as we do would be eles for arcane skills, and engis, and even then NONE of those are needed to make the thing useable and bring it “up to par” they just make them into absolutely amazing utilities…

Most utilities you drop 20pts and you’re about out of stuff you can get for the utility, the rest just sorta combo off things traits do for utility IE glamour causes blinds, and Blinds cause confusion.

Guess it depends slightly on what you consider “nessesary” for a skill to be good.. For me though the only other classes I have to 80 are thief, guardian and (nearly) mesmer, and from those I would say thief Vemons are not very good without sharing, and mesmer mantras are not very good without at least traiting them to have 3 uses instead of 2.

I’d argue venoms are strong without the 30, but they become absolutely amazing WITH the sharing and if you’re gonna take more than 1 or 2 venoms there’s no reason not to take it!

Venoms are actually fairly strong without the Venom Traits.

For instance with a P/D spec you might use 1 or 2 of them depending on your setup.

What the Venom Traits do is make them incredibly powerful for group play. They make them actual Group utility.

That’s completely different from spirits or traps, which actually require 30 point investments to make them actually usable period.

I’m currently running it cause zerging on my Ranger is crap, so i’m running full venomaura build with 5 venoms….

The amount of utility it has is rather silly.

Shortbow as well just poison/weakness entire zergs and a blastfinisher that i can just spam the crap out of it.

Oh and god help the person who’s fighting someone else if I run by.

The only way to fix the “zerg” problem is to let us provide a crap ton of boons, cause thats honestly what separates the good “Zerg” classes from the bad ones, the ability to apply might/protection/vigor/swiftness/regen/fury all to excessive levels. That or excessive AOE like most classes, We’re basically limited to Barrage which sucks in comparison to the Ele Meteor or Running in with the Zerg and Cleaving with our Greatsword, which does less damage then other classes like the Warrior/Guardian and provides crap for CC.

I guess i’ll discuss a few things.

A. We’re terrible in zergs, I’ve personally given up on trying to make my Ranger better in zergs, I mean I can do alright..But its no where near my Thief (which i’ll never understand why people complain about them being bad in zergs) and my Necro.
The thief for instance i’ve basically just run shortbow with 5 venom aura build…People don’t realize how much healing that gives to people around you + the amount of damage it puts out. Its bad city as well since I can basically just spam the crap out of Choking Arrow which is a long duration poison that will also apply weakness with my spec. Nothing I can do on my Ranger comes close to that amount of utility, Spirits are no where near that in utility. Eventually people in SPvP will start figuring it out and will start running that build and it’ll get nerfed but till then its hilarious.

B. BM Bunker is still unmatched as the ranger build of choice for 1v1 fights… The amount of conditions you can put out with the proper spec + the defense make it absolutely devastating. Every other Ranger Build dies to it, and I’ll point out why very simply…. Empathetic Bond….. Which is the biggest problem with the other builds right now. Yes other builds can have it, However the difference between BM Bunker and those builds is simple, I will kill your pet…. That’s how I end up beating most other builds in fights, I simply just kill the pet because they can’t swap fast enough. This leads to them having no condition removal worth anything.

That brings me to my final point.

C. We need to stop coming up with ways to improve Empathetic Bond, It’s a good ability right now…However we don’t need to improve it, We need more bloody options that aren’t centered around the pet. Part of the reason Power Builds aren’t super great right now is because they have to actually pick up this ability. Healing Spring/SoR and Bear Condition Removal aren’t viable either… Against most dangerous Condition Specs you’ll actually need SoR+HS+EB to even fight them… So going without EB is pointless. So as Rangers we need more ways to get rid of Conditions, Not improving the one good method we have right onw.

Also i’ll state this again.

We have to many Skills that require 30 point investments to be good.

Signets for example….Signet of Beastmaster should of been removed a long time ago…

Most of our skills need to stop requiring 2-3 Major Trait Investments to be good.

Traps and Spirits for example, Both require Far to many traits to be good, and far to many points to be viable.

Well, zerging, I’ll agree..Ranger’s probably the worst class in the game… even when fury was broken last patch with Longbow, it still wasn’t great, funny but not great.

Soloing though, Ranger is one of the best classes in the game for killing people….Now I’m sure some people in here will say “But I kill ranger’s all the time, they’re so easy” and you’re right… 99% of the Rangers you come across in PvP will be Longbow Zerker Rangers i’d say. I still cream people today who’ve never fought a BM Bunker Ranger.

But I do agree with pretty much them being awful for zerging.

Though I do laugh when people say Thieves are bad for zerging.

Dire Armor with Full Venom Builds and shortbow is hilarious for it.

Whenever I ran a normal P/D build, i generally ran healing sets, It might not seem like, but if you’re running around with 1k healing power, all those heals you have add up very quickly.

I’ve been playing my thief, solo they’re pretty hilarious, though its not great against multiple people cause you lack good escapes and such .. but in a 1v1 you can explode some people pretty much instantly….

However you want an obscene amount of bags, go full venoms with venomshare and just run with the zerg, I’m pretty sure anyone who hits anyone with your venoms gives you credit.

Its funny when you can land it and someone doesn’t have a stun break.

Rangers do great in small fights, like 1v1 and such..

Past that though they start becoming less useful, This is mainly pet design and utility. If you’re going to do the GvG fights a Ele or Engineer are far far better picks then ranger.

1v1 though, a BM Bunker Ranger is still one of the most dangerous classes in the game.

Its still not as good as BM bunker in fights, i’m trying to work the boar in with wolf but its really hard as getting the boar to work half the time is kitten near impossible

If he moves the slightest he’ll put his f2 on a bloody 3 second cooldown.

So i spend most of my time spamming the button to just get it to work.

I’m also thinking of changing the build to 10 in Nature’s instead, even spiders, If you use the Vitality from power trait it ends up being around 99 power and i get 10% boon duration and 100 vit as well..

Ends up being a bigger stat bonus then 10 in Marksman, i lose malicious training though.

Also trying out a Longbow/Shortbow combo as well. I couldn’t beat Sevans with GS/SB as TB, with LB/SB it was possible.

I’m thinking it has a lot to do with my toughness of the build, 1700+ doesn’t seem like its able to stand vs heavy power builds very well.

If only signet of beastmaster went away, i’d use Signet of Stone.

Problem is Anet still hasn’t figured out why people create Matchup threads in the first place.

Its not to tell people how well they’ve done, its to give your enemy crap.

Its been that way in every Faction or Server based pvp game to date.

Not sure when it’ll be done, the latest Nvidia Patch screwed up Shadowplay pretty badly so that’s just turning off randomally or crashing me.

Nvidia also forces you to download the update to which is also just bloody stupid.

Agreed. It is more than size though. DAoC was roaming play and your builds and setup were generally built to handled whatever the game might throw at you, be it a zerg or another 8man, as well as dealing with the surprise and differing terrains of a random encounter. GvG is more of a duel.

Yea, I realize that most of these guilds are running these setups because 15-20-25 mans are kind of needed to fight the zergs in this game, but at that point, they’re just zergs themselves and its like watchin a zerg vs zerg fight.

They ignore Mags first to attack SBI only. Since SBI are made of mostly fair weather wvwers after 1 day of losing ppl stops coming out . So SBI goes from 1st to last and stays last. Then they stop attacking SBI and attack Mags around Thursday . Since both SBI and Mags seem to be clueless as to what is going on they continues to attack each other the whole week so basically allow Yaks dictate 2v1 with them always on the 2 side. It is quite impressive to see them pull it off last week. But to see it work 2 weeks in a row …. lol

I actually thought SBI players were just not showing up causes of patches, but it seems after the weekends no one shows up at all.

I don’t think Yaks is pulling a big strategy here, I simply think during the weekdays they’re running more players then SBI and Mags at that point.

It’s always done this with moment of clarity, but it seems I’m the only one on this forum who used a boar pet with moment of clarity before it got buffed to ridiculous proportions.

I’m just loving the fact they upped Daze Duration as well with it.

They can’t attack you, you can just run up there and stand in the middle and unload on them.

Down State isn’t very balanced to begin with, and personally I would love it removed.

However since I doubt that’ d never happen, I can tell you what the game does need, is Rez Penalties….

you get back up from being downed, You should eat a very nasty Stat Penalty that should last at least 2 minutes.

I don’t think its so much the necro, but more the Guardian assisting the necro, Conditions build can be nasty no matter who you are if you’re getting 12-25 stacks of might from a Guardian.

I mean, in one of the scene’s you’re doing 200 damage a tic on your bleeds..

You have 25 stacks of might during that as well, I don’t think people realize how bloody powerful that is unless they’ve played a Condition Build.

I’d absolutely melt people if I ran around with 25 stacks of Might on my Ranger, and its part of why the old HGH Engineer Builds were so nasty.

and that’s just might, I’m not including the Protection you’re getting, or the constant Regen. Having a Necro also I know that fighting outnumbered like that would most likely end in death so its not so much the Necro but that Guardian there helping that Necro. Guardian + Anything is going to be a nasty Duo in the end and people shouldn’t say one class is overpowered in that case.

As for fear, we do have access to it via the boar pet, we have basically the warrior version of fear me and with 70% bonus duration from conditions, the bloody thing is 9 seconds long with Moment of Clarity.

What other said, Leave an ICD on it, It actually makes Longbow fairly decent…But I don’t agree that we should be able to Rapid Shot someone and have 21 seconds of fury.

I only got 7.5 seconds of fear on mine btw, howd you get your fear that high? lol. my build was 10-30-30-0-0 on ranger.

Condition Duration increases the duration of fear.

Been a good day of watching yak’s players far far inside our citadel attacking our golems… on more then one occasion.

Also been a good day watching yak’s and maguuma barely hit each other while our bl is full of enemies.

Coincidence how it was allowed to occur last match up and this match up? No. I don’t think so.

What is your problem anet? Any sort of alliance breaks your mechanisms for being outnumbered yet you allow it to occur over and over. What do you think will happen when every match follows the same sort of exploiting you are doing in the sbi, yak’s, maguuma matchup?

A lot of fed up people quitting because of your complacency in the allowing of circumventing your balancing mechanics.

Maybe you guys need to play a different game.

as for the people in our spawn area, bloody kill them, They’re attackable, and you aren’t..You can basically sit on top of them all day long spamming AOE.

I just tested it, and still was only getting the base time with the Stuns

However i did notice that they didn’t separate the 100% duration increase on Stun and Dazes, You get 100% increase on both, Technobabble Daze is 6 seconds now.

Testing it some more, that bloody fear is working that’s for sure, bloody 7 seconds long.

That fear is just silly, its 9 seconds if you got 30 points in Marksman + Rare Veggie Pizza, I’m tempted to just use that when defending keeps to be a prick.

Only problem is getting crappy way the system is designed in the first place.

I want to see a better Adept Level Skirmishing Trait for Power users.

You got 2 or 3 traits designed around increasing your pets ability, the other traits designed around Condition users.

Nothing designed really well for a Power User.

Predators instinct should be moved over to Skirmishing Line’s Adept Tree.

To much stuff in the top line already.
