Thieves being easily killed is entirely based on the build of the thief

When I run around with the Signet+Might Build for huge backstabs, Its insanely easy to kill me…In fact I die more then I actually win…Mainly because the build is hilarious…

Now throw on certain P/D builds I run, and I’m insanely hard to kill.

Remorseless – This has been redesigned, Your pet now consumes a condition on itself every 5 seconds, Causes your pet to have a 15% chance to cleave on critical hits, Your pet now applies 5 stacks of Vulnerability on its next attack each time it consumes a Condition.

This makes weapon attacks such as the longbow knockback, path of scars, shortbow and great sword dazes as active condition removals for the Ranger.

Vigorous Training – This trait has been redesigned Birds/Jellyfish Grant Vigor on Swap for 5 seconds, Moa’s (F2) Abilities are now Blast Finishers.

Shake it Off – Cures 3 Conditions Now
Bite – Casts Regen on itself (No Change)
Slash – Applies 1 Vulnerability to the Target for 5 Seconds
Defy Pain – No Change

B. Black Bears
Enfeebling Roar – Strips 2 Boons from Targets in 600 Radius (20 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Steals 2 Boons from the Target (25 Second Cooldown)
Slash – Applies 1 Vulnerability Stack to the Target for 5 seconds
Defy Pain – Converts Conditions on itself into Random Boons (45 Second Cooldown)

C. Polar Bear
Icy Roar – Converted to Icy Charge, Now Bullrush’s the target leaving behind a Frost Field (Think Burning Speed from Elementalists, but Frost Instead), Chill Increased to 7 Seconds. (20 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Immobilizes the Target for 4 Seconds
Slash – Applies Cripple to the target for 3 Seconds.
Defy Pain – Changed to South Paw, Knocks the Target on the Ground for 3 Seconds. (30 Second Cooldown)

D. Arctodus
Rending Maul – Change to Protective Stance, Absorbs 15% of damage done to allies in the area for 8 seconds, 30 second Cooldown.
Bite – Changed to Intercept, Charges the Ranger and Takes the Next Hit intended for him.
Slash – Applies 1 Stack of Vulnerability to the target for 5 seconds.
Defy Pain – Changed to Bodyguard Splits damage between Ranger and the itself for 5 seconds – 30 Second Cooldown.

E. Murellow
Poison Cloud – Change to Sickly Aura – now transfers 2 conditions from itself to enemies in a 600 Yard Radius every 2 seconds for 10 Seconds. (25 Second Cooldown)
Bite – Now Applies Poison and Weakness for 10 seconds (25 Second Cooldown)
Slash – Applies 1 Stack of Bleed for 5 Seconds to the target
Defy Pain – Changed to Disease Prone – Converts Boons on itself into Conditions (25 Second Cooldown)

As you can see, I’ve Made Each Bear Unique and Have a specific thing they’re good at.

Brown Bears being the Standard Bear, Black Bear Being all about Boons, Polar Bear being all about CC, Arctodus be all about Protecting its master, and Murellow Being all about Spreading Conditions.

Why ppl keep saying ranger good at roaming?

If i’m running my BM Bunker build, the only class right now that really scares me is a Necro.

Warriors use to be scary, but since the Skull Crack Nerf I can take them easier now.

Thieves usually aren’t that difficult, Though the fight is usually long as they just keep vanishing over and over till they make a mistake and my conditions eat them.

Engineer’s use to be scary, but After I started overloading with Spiders they’re not nearly as bad..probably nerfs also.

Mesmer’s have never been scary, They tend to go very heavy on the offense, and have good “Power Build” defense but don’t take Condition Removal often.. so I tend to just eat them alive.

As for being able to survive multiples, you can survive bad players in this game, It has nothing to do with Class…If you come across 2 equally skilled players in a 2v1, You will die..

This game is very heavily slanted towards having more people.

Since you’re using Dwyana and 10 in Nature’s for the Regen Duration I’m not sure i’d recommend spiders, though I wouldn’t recommend Rending Attacks. If you watched out often your pets actually hit, You’d be better off with Mighty Swap and Vigorous Training.

however if you pickup Malicous Training and Intimidation Training, Spiders become scary.

Bloody Shadowplay Breaks on me, stupid Nvidia and their 1.8.1 version..

1.8.0 worked just fine, But can’t use it, have to bloody upgrade to 1.8.1 automatically with no choice….

Biggest load of crap i’ve seen a Card maker pull so far…Not even give the option of holding back on upgrading to a patch.

For the same reason People have called for nerfs to stealth since DAOC, Because Stealth is incredibly overpowered in pretty much every game.

The Stealthers itself have been becoming more and more silly as time has gone on as well.

You look at a DAOC stealther, Something that wasn’t a “Light Tank” but instead something that had to rely on landing a Backstab usually or swapping tons of weapons with poison to bring down a foe… to something like WoW, where now The Stealther is basically the Light Tank with a crap ton of utility thrown in.. and since the traditional role of a stealther in an RPG isn’t used in MMO’s (Disabling traps, opening locks ect ect) they’ve been pretty much pigeoned holed into basically being a Melee Range Heavy Nuker class.

Now with that said.. People dislike running into a class that can pop on them for massive amounts of damage that usually ends the fight.

GW2 takes this 10 steps further, by giving class all the toys that past MMO’s have tacked onto Stealthers, like Evades, Blinds, CC, and gives it the ability to go into stealth over and over again… People didn’t like fighting Stealthers when they could unload on them at the start of the fight, Being able to do it over and over again and when they get in trouble, simply vanish at the drop of the hat just makes people angry.

So yes, people will continue to complain, You’ll just have to accept that..

For the last time, Empathetic Bond isn’t getting nerfed, If it actually worked the way it was described it would be a bug fix, However EB currently does exactly what they’re fixing, As in, if your pet dies, You don’t have any condition removal.

You’re not getting nerfed, That’s how it works already, Its always worked that way.

2 Possible Reasons, and it has little to due with Risen.

A. You’re using Signet of the Wild, This is an aggression magnet.

B. You have more toughness then your pet.

Despite Anet talking about Empathetic Bond, it’s always worked that way…If you killed the pet you removed condition removal for Rangers.

If anything, BM Bunker Rangers will be even more powerful after the patch cause of the on Swap Sigil Changes.

yeah because all the other classes dont get those sigil changes too. I guess a buff for everyone can technically be considered a buff to rangers. Using that thought process the zerker nerf is gonna make longbow rangers even less viable, cus a nerf for everyone is a nerf for rangers too.

Pretty much every other contender class has gotten nerfed this patch

Necro/Warrior/Engineer are all the classes that give Ranger a run for its money 1v1. The BM Bunker Ranger isn’t eating a nerf in comparison.

Also just adding something like the extra swap on a BM Ranger could be incredibly nasty, Esp with things like Chill. Those things start to add up.

I’ve not completely decided on what setup i’ll run on the Technobabble and BM Bunker builds yet

Right now on TB build, I run Power Stack on the Greatsword and Sigil of Earth on Shortbow, I could pickup multiple useful setups. I don’t think i’ll get Sigil of Earth on the Greatsword, Most likely will get something else like Lightning or Flame, Depending on the cost I will probably get Sigil of Torment for my shortbow.. as that’s very nasty to have.

For BM Bunker, The Heal on Swap, hydromancy, battle are all really good choices… BM Bunker will be improved by these choices.

Fine, but evades(despite some qq) don’t last forever and auto attacking vs any melee is suicide thanks to stupid leap frames (and this in an auto attack heavy game). You really have to far outplay opponents on a ranger (spirit bunker may be stronger, at least in a group fight, but even that is tied more to the elite than to any inherent build strengths). You will get caught by one of a warriors, or god forbid an engineers endless amount of cc and watch your health plummet. I can sympathize op, I find bm builds to be particularly rage inducing. BM was pretty good before the dummfire patch/ warrior patch, but the build was nerfed while other proff’s saw huge buff’s. Now Its just watch the pet do 0 damage 50 +% of the time while still being susceptible to conditions bombs/cc, not fun.

A. The only time I use Auto Attack with BM Bunker is when I want to apply lots of cripple to the target that’s running, Otherwise there is no point in ever auto attacking.

B. The evade’s have an incredibly short cooldown, they do last forever..

C. The Pet does less damage now, But the Spiders aren’t there for their damage, They’re there to overload the person with Conditions, even Engineer’s have trouble with it, Warriors have trouble with it, The only class that you have to currently watch for is a Necro…a Necro can absolutely kill a Ranger Very easily, esp a BM Bunker one.

You’ll find that a Spirit Ranger’s Pet will die substantially quicker then a BM Bunker Rangers Pet, you’ll also find that you can’t swap it fast enough before it dies either.

This is how a BM Bunker Kills those type of rangers, you kill their pet, and then they have no condition removal.

And no defense against Immo? You have Sword/Chain evades…You can evade while immobilized

Use Malicious Training, Wilderness Survival is still the same, for BM use Mighty Swap,Intimidation Training,Natural Healing

Use the Poison Spider, and the Weakness Spider.

You should have zero trouble with Healing Signet Warriors Then.

Cripple is not there to actually do anything to them other then Cover your other Conditions, and you apply enough poison to bring them down.

I never meet a ranger I couldn’t kill, until this past week. There have been a few rangers on SF that have completely embarrassed me. I was outplayed, out maneuvered, and out damaged. This was not only solo/small group fights but Zerg vs Zerg.

Some classes are easier to play and there for require less skill for similar results, but the classes with a higher skill ceiling are going to be the ones where a player become unstoppable.

Thief is a good example of this. Bad thieves can run away, good thieves can stay and fight, maybe pick off one or two, great thieves will wipe large groups running a two-shot build (meaning they can two-shot and will die in two shots as well). And, after a healthly helping of humble pie, ranger seems to be too.

I wouldn’t be making this argument in favor of ranger if I had not witnessed it first hand. Ranger seems to be one of those classes that when “mastered” has the potential to be “overpowered”! But I imagine the skill needed to do so is very rare, requires a very low ping, and a player who knows how to predict what the other player on x class will do.

Most ranger are just plain bad, just like most thieves. Easy to play does not mean easy to master. Rangers in general seem to be bad players and keyboard turners, who don’t have a second weapon equipped. I lost count of how many rangers I fought who didn’t equip a melee weapon. I can’t even guess the number of rangers who turned their back on my thief and ran away and did not use any utilities to try to escape or defend them selves, but ran blinding while I auto attack them down.

But I can say, a great ranger, now makes me think twice. My first encounter with a great ranger was a very eye opening experience. I died as fast or faster than it takes me to kill the full GC bad rangers I usually find everywhere in WvW.

I enjoyed the lesson in humility so much I went back again and again and again just to watch the “worse” class in game being masterfully played. I have yet to down that ranger on my Mesmer, Warrior, or Thief. And I have yet to see that Ranger downed by less than a 5v1 hit squad. And no, we are not bad players, quite the opposite, but this one ranger in particular, was just that much better. It could be the 30/30/30/30/30 unicorn build that no one has though of, but I would bet my gold stash the player was just that good.

The SF Ranger with the Guild Tag COSA, very well played. Come to these forums please and share your experience, build, and tactics. Especially with one of the poster here who is known as the thief communities biggest troll. Maybe then he could have the justice he is always demanding. Teach him to play, because you sure as hell know what your doing.

I enjoyed getting my kitten kicked so much by this guy i made a ranger my self. Pretty sure I can guess at the build/runes he was running. I can’t imagine I will reach that guys skill anytime soon, but I would love to be able to wipe a 4 or 5 man organized guild group who is using voice coms and builds/traits with synergy.

And I will repeat this one more time, just for the haters out there, yes, we got wiped by a Ranger, a few times, who was just that good. He was even skilled enough to make very good use of his pet, he did not fire and forget the kitten ed thing, all the while wrecking the crew I was running with.

I almost felt like a keyboard turning ranger with no melee weapon equipped running helplessly away from a thief… Yes, it was that bad. But I enjoyed it, and so did the group I was running with.

Most Ranger you see are GC Bearbow rangers, The ones you see without bows are the ones you should fear.

Warriors use Rabid on their Longbow/S and S Build.. P/D thieves, you don’t use Apothecary primarily, You can do Dire Setup, or you can do a Shamans (HP/Vit/Condition) with Apothecary Jewels on your Shamans, I actually ran that setup for the longest time and actually prefer it even today, Though I do have a Full Dire setup also mianly used for Venoms.

I run a Rabid Build on Necro, you have 20k HP which is usually enough, and sigil of earth + torment is silly.

A. Most of the Large Attacks from Power Based builds are telegraphed because they instantly kill you. Take my Backstab thief, I’m awful on him…He’s not telegraphed to easy. Anything past 1v1 I lose horribly…Even 1v1 fights i don’t do so great if you dodge my main attack because I have sustain. However I can 1 shot pretty much every single build in the game in a split second unless they’re full bunker, and if a bunker is below 80% life, it means instant death..This means if I come across a bunker fighting someone else, I can instantly pop on them and kill them. That is why those moves are highly telegraphed… Because they do absurd damage.

B. Most Power Based Warriors even zerker use Healing Signet, Most people don’t go Apothecary anymore..It primary is Healing Power, and unless you have a lot of regen based abilities, its not as good as Dire.

C. Healing Power Based Builds require you to have proper regen based setups, For example.. I keep enough healing power in my build to give me 900 HP per second on Trolls. Even then you still won’t see Healing Power used in Builds a lot anymore compared to Dire. Mainly because of Conditions which is hilarious part of it… Go Try a healing power based build of apothecary and fight a Condition Necro and come back and tell me how well you do. There is a reason I opted for 5k more health from picking up more dire pieces.

To be fair I don’t feel this picture is accurate.

Almost all power builds good ones anyway skimp on power or precision because they make it up with might stacks or fury almost every power build does this. Just to keep it a honest discussion here.

Condi bunkers like Xsorus said are good in 1v1’s almost all of them can be ignored and walked away from with Necro’s probably being the the only real threat. If we are talking about apothecary a Necro can pull it off with points in BM but you can definitely walk away from a apothecary Necro.

Dire Necro’s are only really tanky if they go deep in DM I run 20 DM on my necro and it still is pretty squishy since there isn’t really much sustain to stay topped off and there are no blocks.

Well of course there is sacrifice in power based bunker builds, just like there is in Condition Based Bunker Builds.

Apothecary Gear is Healing Power Primary stat, meaning it has lower condition damage then Rabid Gear

Precision is actually used in Condition Based Builds… By going Apothecary and/or Dire, I cannot use Sigil of Earth and Sigil of Torment, These are very high damage sigils with precision. I can’t use the bleed trait in Skirmishing either because I don’t crit often.

So Bunkers do give up potential Condition Damage.

A. Dodging/Aegis affect Conditions just the same as Berserker Builds. You dodge the main Berserker build attack, you don’t take 5k damage, you dodge the main condition attack, you don’t take 3k damage. Protection works against Power Based Builds more though, but since they do so much damage its needed just for them. Condition Removal is kind of the Protection for Conditions, It counters so much damage its silly.

B. Healing Power is only useful if you stack enough regen based abilities, and even then good power based builds with toughness are able to bunker decently enough to make them a threat, For example..The Warriors primarily do Power Based Builds with high toughness/crit damage ect ect that don’t use healing power… Mesmer’s can do it also. one of the main Bunkers for Necro, Minion Master, also uses a power based build with No healing power. Rangers were really the only ones for the longest time that bothered with Apothecary Gear, even now though We’ve dropped apothecary some what more for Dire.

C. Defensive Healing Based characters with some damage have always been powerful in every game when it comes to 1v1. Look at DAOC, some of the most Powerful 1v1 Classes were Valkyries/Reavers/Vampiirs/Valewalkers because they had really good defense and could outlast people quite easily. This will not change..Bunker Builds will always be good at this….There are a few times when you can instantly burst them down…but most of the time, they’re built to outlast and will be good for 1v1.

This is not a joke , it is the sad truth of pvp . AI based builds destroy pvp . I want to Q up for some player versus player matches but I end up fighting mobs instead. Not only its not fun but it is also incredibly overpowered.

Do you know what people did in that game instead of whining about dying to pets? They killed the pets…

Well there was a time when they did whine… and that was on Animist, Since they could summon 50 Pets in one spot…yes 50….. and you’re whining about 5 or 6..

Everytime I see someone whining about pets in this game I can’t help but laugh… You guys would slit your wrist the first time you came across a Theurgist in DAOC.

A. Condition Bunker Builds don’t do nearly the same damage as Berserker Builds.

They’re good solo in wvw, that’s about it.

for Zerging, most classes are better….Having access to basically 1 AOE if you’re Ranged on a fairly long cooldown or a short ranged Cleave attack if you’re greatsword doesn’t cut it..Mainly because that line also doesn’t have any AOE CC or anything really to go with it.

there is a reason people use Guardians/Warriors/Ele’s/Necro’s for zerging.

Where are condition builds currently used…

Solo and in SPvP..

You don’t see them used in PVE, and you don’t see them used in Large Scale PvP

complaining you lost to a Bunker type build in 1v1 because you didn’t want to counter Condition Duration with anti Condition duration food is silly.. Those people are countering your power by investing as much into defense as possible.

Are we talking about a BM Bunker build, or we talking about letting your pet do damage?

This is a video I did when it worked really well, Problem is they nerfed the main source of damage a while back, which was Maul on Cats.

You also can’t send pets into keeps anymore which makes me sad :o(

Beastmaster’s Might always confuses me, I run Signet Build on my thief for huge hits for the lawls every now and again.

Their Traits are much shorter cooldowns, making it far more viable.. and their actives work far better then it….Why would anyone waste all your passives/actives when ya don’t need to for 9 stacks of might i’ll never get…

Those are good options as well Durzlla, Skirmishing Line does need some better options for Power Users.

I mean its a Crit Based line, but it has 4 “trapper” based traits, 4 Pet Based traits, an Axe Trait that makes no sense (since Axe Main hand is a condition weapon, not a crit damage weapon) and 1 actual power based option, Quick Draw, I’d say Moment of Clarity but that’s more of a defensive option
