We start 30min before reset
Too bad, I usually do Jormag and Teq during that time. But if you ever need someone else I can make myself available. Would like to try one of those run. I wanted for a long time try it, but we end up with filling the party rather quickly in my guild.
I hear what you guys are saying about the encounters. They can be avoided with active mitigation. However, dead, dodging, downed, or rezzing ’zerkers are doing no dps for the aforementioned situations. So, if the presence of one full healing power build can make them dodge half as much, be downed half as much, ensure that no one is ever dead, and they are the dedicated rezzer, (rez boosting trait, and lowest dps) the uptime that he or she gives to the ’zerkers will definitely make up for the loss of a slot.
That’s only an issue for bad players. Good players don’t down, die or rez.
Watch these: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCxfgAjHhmmwpAM9N2AgBQODeGx33wRih
Healing power is already powerful as are defensive stats. But, it takes intelligent use and application. Having run with the person in the videos, well, it’s kitten effective. But, doesn’t mean you want 3 of them in a party. The only problem is with most content being pretty easy already you don’t see much difference when you make it even easier. It’s very noticeable in Fractals though. I think the only fractal I would call even remotely hard while playing with that group was Dredge but that’s just because I suck at dodging the 1-2 punch from the one end boss.
Yup. The two main problem of healing power isn’t healing power itself.
1) The quantity of active defense mean that healing power isn’t needed. No active defense would mean that we need more healing, but then the game would be a lot less interesting to play.
2) The difficulty / experience of player. The game is easy and old so people don’t have a hard time running with just a big of active defense. A hard enough content will push everybody to use all active defense available. Really good player will then use their skill, while healing power would help everybody else to have a more smooth run.
I really do think that condis are in good spot, just some classes have easy easy to kill with condis,
Not totally. All condi build right now focus on burning. Engineer/Guardian/Ranger in PvE all focus on burning first. Guardian and Ranger use balthazar rune, while engineer is the only one that still give a good amount of other condition, while still focusing on burn. For sPvP it’s the same thing. Cele Ele focus on fire, Engineer condi focus on fire, Guardian focus on fire, Carrion Ranger focus on fire, the only that focus on bleed is Ranger condi Survival and that build isn’t one of the best. There is an imbalance right now toward burning. I would love to see more Bleeding Warrior and stuff like that.
We didn’t miss your point, we just don’t agree with it. If we need to take healing power for some boon duration that mean we don’t take one of the 3 damage stats and that we have less damage. Why would we do that since we can get 25 stack of might without sacrificing one of our damage stats?
That mean that for your idea to work, we shouldn’t be able to stack 25 stack of might without some healing power/boon duration. Which mean nerfing boon duration like crazy because stacking might is super easy.
Nerf might duration a bit, the PS warrior will get Runes of Strenght + Dumplings. Nerf it a little more, the PS warrior will take FGJ instead of his signet. Nerf a little bit more, staff Ele will take back their Arcane Wave instead of their signet. Nerf it a little bit more, S/F Elementalist will become a thing again. Nerf it again, the meta will be 1 PS Warrior + 1 Staff Ele + 1 S/F Elementalist. Now if you nerf it enough that those 3 can’t keep 25 stack of might, that mean that might is basically useless in PvP or in solo.
Another way your idea may work is if you remove all boon duration from Rune/Food, or at least to standardize it so that Rune/Food don’t give such high amount of it compare to armor. That’s a huge rework, but it could work. I’m not saying it’s a good idea, but it could work.
condition damage is supposed to be SUSTAINED damage not Burst the fact that players can be downed in 0.4th of a second with some comboes show how broken condition damage is currently even as an engineer with 2 skills i can slap 6-8k damage per second worth of condition damage and that is on a non grenades build
And where that rule is written? Condition Damage isn’t supposed to be anything else than condition damage and Anet can make them do whatever they want.
Zerker is better only icebow burst, structures and some specific fight in record run.
For most speed run or pugs run the majority if not all bosses die after the 14sec mark and sinister is better.
In the end of the day, they are both great and you should take which one you prefer.
Engineer Sinister sustain is higher than Elementalist, but Elementalist Icebow Burst is higher. Would be interesting to know what is the time threshold when the Engineer become better than a elementalist, but my guess is that it’s very high and that it’s almost always better with an Elementalist with Icebow.
(edited by Thaddeus.4891)
Useless tread is useless.
I think that waiting a bit is a good thing. People always cry about new stuff, but over time they get used to is so it doesn’t need as big of a nerf if at all. Best exemple is TEQ. They nerfed it a couple of time, while people were getting better at it and it end up super easy.
Until now they didn’t nerfed condition and it a lot more manageable than it used to be at the patch. Now because the game changed, but people adapted to it.
I would be in favor of nerfing a little bit burning, but only if they buff a bit bleeding. Personnally, I think that burning is ok right now. It’s only really strong on Elementalist because the profession can give a good amount while being defensive. It’s also strong on guardian, but it’s a one trick pony.
PvE: For dungeons, Thief will likely be the preferred choice (as Rangers are in a bit of a pickle with dungeons at the moment). For world events, either profession will work – so whichever you are more interested in.
Untrue. Rangers are in a great position since september 2014 but people are just stupid and continue to hate the profession just because from time to time they see a bad Ranger.
just a question..how many of u r maining 1 character for 3 years now in gw2? and playing everyday like 1h?
I main my Guardian almost for the last 3 years. I played engineer just for like the first month before I switched. I don’t play exclusively guardian, but like 80% of the time.
I agree that hard more should be optional, but unique reward are a good thing. Not if that item provide an advantage over other people, but just a skin/title or something else like that it’s a good thing.
Ideally, they should remove the runes and sigil from weapons. They could have a seperate slot in your hero panel so you can swap armor and runes seperately and they wouldn’t be link together.
Otherwise, they could decrease the gem cost of extractor by a lot. Those extractor are stupid. Only 6-7 component are costly enough to be worth using an extractor.
25 Extractor should cost 250 gems not 5000 gems. That way getting 1 extractor would cost you around 2 gold, which mean it would be worth it for most expansive runes. They could put it at 25 Extractor for 750 gems so that each extractor cost about 5 gold. Anything higher than that is pretty useless.
Last thing that I was is legendary armor. Armor are costly to create. 1 armor of each type will be equal to 9 legendary weapon in term of cost (almost). Which mean we will have a very limited amount of choice and everybody will want to have the same stuff. We already have so much people with the same weapons (legendary), do you really want the same with your armor?
I could get behind a legendary item or trinket that put some effect on your armor. Like a legendary amulet that put bright cantha letter on your armor, or some special effect like the legendary armor. That way you still have some mix and matching going on.
1) Server only affect WvW. If you don’t do that, then server will never affect you. If you want to do WvW then search a guild on the right server and right timezone.
2) Find a guild with guild missions at a moment that you can do it. Larger guild tend to have more than 1 guild missions per week to help players in your situation.
There is currently an upgrade extractor in the BLTC that will extract upgrades without destroying the item. It’s under the “Special” tab for 250 gems each.
Even if you by 25 so that they cost 200 gem, it’s still 36 gold to transfer gem and get the extractor. Which limite the use of that item to 2 sigils, +10 Agony Resistance and the 4 upgrade component that give an aura. It’s almost useless.
Based on your image here some help
1) Take all 20 slot bag. They are cheap and will increse 12 spot on your character.
2) I hope you don’t keep what it’s your 3rd bag normally
3) Create mystic salvage kit instead of master salvage kit. Won’t give you additional spot, but will help you over time since you will always be able to salvage.
4) Why a green armor next to your siege weapons? Do you really need that.
5) I keep my Staf of gratitude on an Alt on which I put all my excess dragonite/empyreal/dust. Each day, I just go on that alt and make my 3 items eat. That would liberate some place on your main.
6) Why keeping black lion chest on your main?
7) After all that you could get a permanent bank access, leave armor in your bank and access them when you need them.

The number of bearbow have greatly reduced in the last year. Now I see more staff guardian than Bearbow Ranger.
a coral orb offers 48 dps stats
an antitoxin rune offers 28similar reasoning for a rampager back piece. rabid has toughness and isnt pure glass but rampager is.
tbh you wont notice the difference either way, but you know how those meta makers wanna find the optimum and all that…
You can’t just count that way. Condition Damage for that kind of build is so more important that usually Rabid is better dps than rampager. I’m not saying it’ s the case here, but you can’t just say Rampager is better because it have 3 direct damage stats.
he responded with “talk to me when you are on ele, warrior is noob class”
So I switched to ele,
LOL I Love that.
Here a couple more.

I hate no idea of what you are trying to say. Maybe collect your thoughts before putting it on the forum?
I fought this kind of warrior bunker yesterday. He run ran to our home and fought against my soldier engineer. It was so stupid that we just did /sleep and talk about the weather. Even when a burning guardian came to help we were able to put him at more than 70% hp. There is probably a trick to deal with that kind of build, but it was just more efficient to just ignore him. Unfortunately we were only 3 in party so we always had 1-2 pugs trying to kill him alone.
It’s great build to take on 1-2 people, but I’m not sure about his ability to keep on going against burst damage. He mostly have regen and heal, it doesn’t have as much block or as much support as a bunker guardian.
From 1 to 80 you receive enough Hero Points to unlock all the core profession. Eliste Specialization should only need around 90-100 hero points based on current cost and you get more than 200 hero points from doing a complete map completion. So you should only need half a map completion to unlock all your profession at the expansion. Which imo is fair since most people can reach half a map completion pretty easily even with alts. If it need a full map completion it would be such a pain in the kitten on alts.
I guess we can start with obvious meta build that most people know.

Sinister Guardian have a lower single target dps, but higher dps against group of mobs than zerker. Bezerker is still view as superior in group content, but both a pretty equal (with a slight advantage for condition) in solo situation.
In the end both are good, it really depend on what playstyle you prefer. Just keep in mind that you do a lot less dmg with an Icebow with sinister so let that to others. Also a lot of players think that Anet will soon nerf burning a little. This may change the situation of condition guardian and sinister may not be as good as it is now.
Ranger is good in dungeon since september 2014 and it’s better since the last trait patch. Ranger is around the 4th best dps and bring Spotter and Frost Spirit to the team. It’s new view as a meta profession for record run, but it’s more than good for speed run or pugs run.
I’d be somewhat surprised if it’d be this year at all.
It could be, of course, but given how much is known about the expansion so far I wouldn’t assume it.
They announced just a couple weeks ago that it will be this year. Since there is only a couple of months left in 2015 I doubt they will miss the deadline, most stuff is probably already complete with some minor adjustment. Otherwise they wouldn’t have announced that.
Ya I can understand Fred. I was kitten off at first too. But then, we started to see a lot of synergy between trait, a lot of new build of great quality emerged. We all have our personnal opinion on what should be in the game and anet can’t satisfied every single players.
But like I said, give it a try. Play with it a couple of months and you might grow to like it. One thing for sure, anet is all about the expansion now, so the system won’t change (And IMO shouldn’t change) before the expansion. One thing that can and should change is some fine tuning of the traits. There still some trait that are lacking or misplaced. Best exemple of that is Glacial Heart for guardian. It’s a great trait that people want to play, but can’t because of where it is. That’s where our feedback should concentrate right now, because I’m sure that this kind of information Anet will listen too because of course there will be a couple of balance patch before the expansion. They created a new build system and fixed the most urgent stuff like Mesmer, Symbolic Avenger, Grenadier, etc. But they will still improve the balance to be ready for the expansion.
I would like for them to finish some weapons set. Phantasm weapons and Spirit weapons don’t have all weapons.
They could create a complete set with Jormag’s Breath. It’s a very nice weapon. Same with Lord Taeres’s Shadow
It’s been several months and we never had as much different great build that work in the game. So we all know that not everything they did was a good idea, but in the end the new system work better than the old one. You can continue to rant, but the system won’t change. Like I said you are to late to the party.
Doesn’t mean we can’t wish for more diversity. I’m not saying “roll it back”, I’m saying we should find a way to increase the amount of possible builds to suit everyone’s needs.
Yes they could. IMO it won’t improve the game, but it will decrease the balance. And I prefer having a better balance than adding a couple of thousand more useless build.
I wouldn’t spit on the possibility to use adept trait instead of a master, or a adept/master trait intead of a grandmaster. But even better would be just to make some fix to some trait so we always have 3 good options to choose from.
Maybe you should give it a couple of month to experience the system for real. A lot of people that I know and dislike the system, now like it. Keep in mind that if Anet does what you want, it won’t necessary improve the system. More build diversity doesn’t equal better because it decrease the balance in the game. 196 830 build, I’ll never try that much build.
Fred Fargone you are just too late to the party. It’s been months and we discussed that to death already. The general concensus is that :
1) The new system give us less diversity
2) The new system give us more diversity in viable build
3) They could have just remove stats and improve trait to get both more viable build and keep the total diversity
4) They choose that way to improve the balance
5) Overall, even if this system is not perfect, it’s a better system than the old one.
It’s been several months and we never had as much different great build that work in the game. So we all know that not everything they did was a good idea, but in the end the new system work better than the old one. You can continue to rant, but the system won’t change. LOL that at least 11 stack of burning. Did you stay in place absorbing burning? Since it’s in PvP, it’s probably more around 14-15 stack of burning, which is even worst.
If that was 8 stack, the guys would need 4500 condition damage or he had 3500 conditoin damage and you had 25 stack of vulnerability on you. Doudt it.
(edited by Thaddeus.4891)
Forgot some ‘’ – ’’ in there. Sorry.
If guilds like TTS can beat the content out of the box then it won’t be challenging.
It they can beat it after 8 hours of hard work. Will you consider it challenging?
I would like a off-hand mace to dual wield my Moot while dancing, just like my friend on his warrior.
Seriously, Axe main-hand and Warhorn would be my two best choice. Warhorn for buffing team and Axe as a more fast pace dps style.
You are right about the damage modifier.
For the engineer. True Napalm is great to give burning. But it’s the only skill and you can end up with zero burning pretty easily if something don’t go as plan. I’m just not that comfortable to propose Flame legion on an engineer unless they take Incendiary powder.
Now our numbers are pretty close.
Just some more numbers just for fun. With Ruby orb the difference in dps is 8.2% so very similar to Rune of Rage. At almost the same price and without the additional fury from the rune, you can see that it’s never worth using Ruby Orb now.
Here all the numbers, but in full buff situation.
Ranger : -1.8%
Flame : – 5.2%
Strength : – 7%
Pack : – 8%
Eagle : – 5.6%
Thief : – 1.8%
Rage : – 6.9%
Interestingly, Eagle Rune get really close to Flame Legion in those situation (Didn’t saw that coming. But the additional burning and initial burst (Icebow) still put Flame Legion ahead in most situation.
Also Rage Rune go higher on the list in full buff situation. Probably because Ferocity became more important that Power at those high levels. A Ferocity with power or precision as secondary could be a very good rune.

- still same pve meta (berserker, stack together and zerg)
Assassin, Beserker and Sinister are all meta. Stacking on top of each other isn’t meta. It’s a easy but bad pug tactics.
- still same pvp meta (conditions, bunkers, tons of mobility)
There is one good bunker build and most team don’t use it.There is only 2 celestial meta that use condition heavily. Overall you have a lot more direct damage build in PvP than condition build.
- reduced build diversity (no hybrid builds anymore)
Celestial Necro and Elementalist in PvP say hello. For PvE Hybrid was never a great idea. But Engineer was always kind of an hybrid profession. You always do near 30-70% of each damage that you have a zerker, sinister or celestial build.
- spvp still only capture the point, no deathmatch so far and no plans for it…
Courtyard is deathmatch and Stronghold is coming with the expansion.
- new skins only come through gems, even tho they launching a paid expansion
You don’t need gems for those skin. You can transfer gold into gem, black lion weapons are easier to get by buying them or key farming.
- ridiculous burst in pvp, tried stacking defenses and still got crit for 8k on my ranger
Maybe you are, what the word i’m searching for. Oh ya bad in PvP? I’m surviving just fine thank you, even on my thief.
- account security still absurd, can’t disable e-mail authentication without support help, still need my CD-key for anything support related, just ridiculous
Never had any problem about that whatsoever in 3 years. Never heard of that kind of thing in my guilds either.
- gold insanely devalued, skins cost up to few thousands of gold (gw2 has no grind lol)
Gold is easy to get too. What does it change? So just because numbers are relatively big (not even big but whatever), it mean that the economy is bad or grindy? By that logic Japanese economy is bad because their lower bank notes is 1000 yen. Difference in scale doesn’t change a thing.
- still forced to pick healing and elite skill, why for gods sake?
For balance? But I agree that I would like to take a 4th utility instead of an Elite. Don’t think that make the game bad.
- wvw empty, and even when it isn’t there is hardhly any pvp in there
I agree that WvW is a mess. Nice mode, but balance in number is wrong since day one. PvP or not depend on what you are doing. I always do PvP when i’m in WvW.
- edge of the mists (new pvp map) is just a karma farm train
Agree, but is it a bad thing? Yes and no. There is other place for PvP, so I’m ok with karma train and like it. But at the same time, it’s advertise as a PvP. Ideally, they would make a true karma train elsewhere in the game and keep that map PvP.
- added ascended items because gw2 has no power creep
I agree that it wasn’t needed and the game would be better without it. But there was a lot of people crying to have it. Anet was kitten ed if they did, kitten ed if they didn’t.
The rest is pretty much just opinion. It’s ok if the game isn’t good for you. I can’t stand WoW, that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game, it just doesn’t fix me and it’s ok. All different game for different players.
And Lupi is supposed to be a 5-man content >.>
Yes, but my point is that you can make challenging content that will stay challenging with fast pace actions that need some good reflexes. Which is not what most GW2 content is about right now. Right now it’s hard because you don’t know how to get by something, don’t know an attack or that the mob knowkback, etc.
But something like Lupi attacks need you to identify that an attack is coming and having only a small time to protect yourself. That’s is hard and need concentration even if you did it 100 times.
I don’t have the same result as you. If i’m using the same build as you and the same specification here the difference in dps% compare to scholar.
Ranger : – 2.3%
Flame : – 4.8%
Strength : – 6.6%
Pack : – 6.9%
Eagle : – 6%
Thief : – 1.9%
Rage: – 8.7%
They all are below Scholar. But these number are irrelevant. For example, they don’t count any condition damage, which will profit Power runes over Precision or Ferocity runes. It will also boost Flame legion compare to others. The fact that you use sharpening stone instead of slaying potion, or accuracy instead of night or no vulnerability will boost lower damage modifier runes compare to higher damage modifier runes. The fact that you are not using buff, also change the situation. You can argue that most pugs don’t have full buff, but I’ll argue that no pugs have zero buff.
I’m not saying that those are wrong choice, but this point out that the numbers will change a lot depending on the situation.
Here some more specific criticism.
Rune of the Thief only work if you hit from behind. This is more limiting that you seem to think.
- Almost all of the big Ele attack won’t proc it (Lava Front, Meteor Shower, Icebow 4, etc.)
- If it can work well on a boss, it’s useless against group of mobs,
- Mesmer can’t control from where their phantams will come,
- Guardian main dps come from symbol and Whirling Wrath, both of which won’t proc the 10%.
In the end, this rune can only achieve this kind of damage on a Thief, maybe a Ranger or Warrior.
Rune of Ranger Only work with a Ranger or Mesmer. Otherwise it’s a complete waste. Elementalist solo can achievement something no too bad with 2 elementals.
Flame Legion Power Engineer don’t give burning and Condi Engineer don’t use that runes. So that’s a bad advice. It would only work for engineer in two situation. In a home made build or if you count that any party will probably have perma burning in a dungeon.
Pack There is way better way to give fury than waiting to be hit. Especially, since most group don’t have problem with fury. If you need it, change trait/skills. Pack is a great rune for solo, but not for group.
Well, then you need to practice hard so that 8 or 12 can make up the work of 15. It’s not like we have never lowmanned a content before.
True. But it doesn’t mean it’s a good design. At the expansion, I will probably be able to get 12 good players to do that with me in my guild. 6-8 months after the expansion? I probably won’t be able to do any day of the week, or I’ll have to train some new people to get better. And I’m in a 500 person guild.
Imagine what will be the situation for most guild. Most of them don’t have access to either 15 decent players or 8-12 good players.
I’m want the content to be hard, not that the creation of a party or team be hard. Again. Personally, I don’t think this will be much of an obstacle since I’m in a big guild. But that’s not the case for everybody.
History proves that it always happens after a challenge is learned – or nerfed, for all that matter.
Edit, even a guild of 20-30 people can do Teq comfortably now without the need of filling the whole map. Then ANet never explicitly tells for how many people was that boss designed. Is he still a challenging world boss? Perhaps, to several new players who have never fought him hundreds of times.
Not really. Teq was never really challenging. Spreading basic knowledge was the difficult part. Soloing Lupi legit is still a good challenge, same with Liadri legit. If the difficulty of a content is just to have some knowledge of it, it’s not really challenging. If it’s the execution that is challenging, then it will stay challenging over time.
I’m not saying that people won’t have an easier time in the long run, but it will stay a challenge. Reacting quickly is challenging even if it’s been 100 times. Now if you can predict when you gonna need to react quickly, it’s another story.
(edited by Thaddeus.4891)
PvE
- Trio fractals 50 (some of them can’t be done with less than 3)
- Near records dungeon run (speed run is easy)
- Solo/Duo dungeons
PvP
- WvW Roaming
- WvW Zerg bursting
- sPvP
Pretty impossible to rank PvP since it depend on the level of your team and the opposite team. For PvE, it’s hard to rank them up. I would say that Trio Fractal is the easiest. Near record dungeon run have some situation that are challenging, but the difficulty is more about achieve specific tactics, training, RNG and not really encounter themselves. Solo dungeon is for me the most challenging thing you can do PvE wise.
Trible Trouble is also hard, but it’s hard to organized, not really to execute. Everybody have simple task, it’s just hard to organized so that everybody do the right task at the right moment.
I never use compact and hate it. I don’t want them combine.
I hope it won’t be 15 mans. Between 8 and 12 it can be manageable by most guild, but 15 start to be harder.
Can players achieve the exact same thing with no RL cash?
That does not really matter, in many many games that are usually considered P2W, you can get all the stuff in game. It just usually required a lot of time and boring grind.
And what required a lot of time and boring grind that you can buy with RL cash? The most expansive gem store item is 1000 gem which can be bought with 113 gold or around 6-12 hours or gameplay depending on what you do. That’s not a lot of time.
All profession can do pretty much each role. The game is designed that way so you will be able to complete any content with any combination of profession. Now, some profession can be better at something than other and Guardian is better at what he does than other. You can replace him, but he will usually be the better choice in PvE and WvW. For PvP it’s debatable. It depend on the enemy team and your team.
Stat wise, no. However, this is Fashion Wars 2, so yes.
Does some skins can only be acquire with real life money?
I know this “META” thing favors raw damage and no other builds or styles of play. So engineer doesn’t feel very popular or seem very flashy. I picked engineer knowing i wasn’t going to be the best damage dealer or best supporting char or tank (gaurdian)
Don’t mix up PvE, PvP and WvW Meta. Raw damage is for PvE meta. For PvP and WvW it’s a mix. Beserker isn’t meta at all in PvP.
Right now the ’’meta’’ is 1 clerics, 1 Soldiers, 2 Marauders and 2 Celestial. And honestly, these day, which profession is meta or not evolve a lot and will probably won’t be stable until after the expansion.
One note. AC used to be a great dungeon to start soloing, but with the recent change to scaling, it’s a lot harder for the burrow events. Not impossible, but I wouldn’t recommend it as a starting solo dungeon anymore. TA is easier to solo.
They are designed as group experience.
No offense, but I think its a bit strange to ask for solo dungeons in a MMO. MMO are (or should be) teamgames. GW2 offers no teamcontent except dungeons/fractals.There are other, better games out there which offer solo Dungeons. Skyrim for example. Asking for solo dungeons in a MMO is like asking for autoaim in an Egoshooter. I know many people prefer to play solo, but they shouldn’t buy a MMO then. There are many friendly casual guilds, which will help you through dungeons without rushing or asking you to bring experience or a certain build.
You could even just open a lfg “firsttimer looking for friendly people, no rushing” or something similar – but i recommend searching a guild of like-minded people.
Dungeon soloing is pretty huge in GW2. Most player that consider themselves great dungeon player solo or used to solo or duo on a regular basis. Mostly because of the lack of challenging content. But you are right that asking to solo so you don’t need to group up is a bit weird. It’s usually the other way around. People do dungeon in group to the death and start looking for more challenging solo run after.
