The problem isn’t the meta or record run. The problem is the delusion and uninformed opinion of wanna be try hard speed runner that kick anything that isn’t in meta battle even if meta battle usually lag behind or don’t talk about near optimal build that you won’t even make a difference in pug group.

Making gold in Silverwastes

Thaddeus.4891

Silverwaste is one big meta event with 4 forts spread on the map (Amber, Red Bastion, Indigo Cave and Blue Oasis). You have a orange bar that fill up with each event someone complete on the map. It can be to retake a fort, defend it, help rebuild defenses, escort some supply, kill a veteran, etc. Usually you try to have a small group of people defending each forts and some other doing event in between the forts. When the bar is full, the breach happen. There is kitten in each of the 4 forts and you can jump in to kill a boss. Indigo have 2, the rest have only 1. You get a reward for killing the boss and if all 5 are dead before the timer run out you get a bigger reward. After that the Vinewrath event start. There you have 3 lanes that need to defense a carrier that try to cut down a path to the VW. Each lanes go one by one to kill a boss. If a lane fail, the next lane will try to kill the same boss. When all 3 bosses are dead the VW die and you get a big chest plus some smaller chest. After that there is a couple of champion on the map and often a small zerg go kill them and finally the labyrinth open. In the labyrinth you can try to open all the small chest and in the middle there is a big chest where you can use the Nightmare key you reveive from the breach and VW. Then the map reset again.

There is 2 ways to get gold from this place.
- Chest Farming. You can find those in the LFG. Over the map, there is buried chest and you can get shovels from events. When you go on a chest farm, some people use their shovel and everybody can open the chest. Depending if people have shovels and you have a good commander you can gain a fair amount of gold. If I remember it’s between 12 and 20gold per hours. You gain almost no gold, but a lot of material and a couple of rare. The gold reward depend mostly on your map and what you decide to do with the material. You need key to open those chest and you get those with Bandit Crest. So you can’t just do chest farm after chest farm. At some point you gonna need to make some events to gain more crest and refill your keys. You need between 30-45 key in one run so make sure you have enough at all time.

- The Greater nigthmare key are also a good source of reward. A couple of months ago the breach failed on a regular basis and the VW took some time to complete. But now, people are better at it and they both go fast. If you can find a map at like 90%, the you probably gonna get the most reward from that compare to a chest farm. The problem is that you won’t be able to find several map at 90% back to back, while if you find a good chest farm map, you can farm for a very long time.

Put on 60 AR on the boss. Build properly to offset the damage/heal out of it (Friend’s nomad ele with some extra support help has done scale 30’s with zero AR and survived Mai Trin’s AR checks) Take the same damage as you did once before. There is literally nothing stopping you from using less-than-maximum AR. Problem solved.

AR checks are there to prevent people from being carried by other people/carried into higher level fractals because the entire point of FoTM is the grind. ANet has come out and said this because it offers a means for grind-wanting players to get the grind without affecting the rest of the game.

Is the system the best one? I don’t think so, no. But is AR being easy to acquire reducing the difficulty/causing fractals to become easier than they once were? Not in the slightest.

Forget about it you just don’t get what I mean. I couldn’t give a flying kittent about what you propose. I don’t want to heal myself. I just loved that fractal needed us to be near perfection with our dodge or the party was wiping. If I want to artificially try to make the game more difficult I’ll just continue to solo stuff. I just miss the old fractal.

Not really.

Icebow is super powerful in PvE. Most build have one for dungeons. It’s also decent in some WvW situation. It’s a good burst damage skill.

Fiery GS is a good mobility weapon in PvP, WvW or open world.

Lighting Hammer is also decent on PvE, but it’s usually good on S/X build and those build are not very popular right now so.

The last two the shield and axe are pretty much useless or very niche.

Not really.

Shield have some use on a Bunker Guardian, but it’s the only place where a shield is viable and it’s not really the best choice even there.

Scepter on the other hand is a powerful and popular weapon for a medi guardian, which is more of a bursty killing build.

Both together? Never saw that and I don’t see any situation where it would be ideal. On a bunker the scepter isn’t super enough and you don’t have the offensive stats to make use of the smite anyway so it will be useless. But on a medi guardian, the shield won’t really help you and you will lack the defensive skill of the focus, which are really needed on that kind of squishy build.

For PvE
- Offensive support : Warrior
- Defensive support : Guardian
- Utility support : Mesmer/Thief

For PvP it’s less clear since usually build are more self sufficient since you never know if you will be alone or with which teamate in a fight. Bunker Guardian and Cele Elementalist both have more offensive and defensive support than most other build. You also have the Thief that pack a good amount of utility skill.

It look that Guardian for PvE and Guardian/Elementalist for PvP would be your best shot according to your description.

I disagree with that Elbritil. I love the active gameplay of gw2 which reward knowledge and skill to survive (in theory). Why someone in Nomad which is far more forgiving for mistake should be as good or nearer as good as a Bezerker which have zero security net.

The content right now don’t really give credit the to the system because rally can sponge a lot of the mistake Zerker can do. People that doesn’t have the skill to survive in zerker can play it because they gonna rally on the meteor shower they started before downing. The content is also not hard enough so that almost everybody can play zerker.

In a game with hard enough content and where only a small portion of the community can actually play bezerker without frenching the floor. In that situation, a little bit more defense would have it’s place. Not because it’s good, but because it give a fighting chance to normal players. Right now, you really need to be bad, you never really tried a more meta build or you are inexperimented if you really need defensive gear to survive the current content.

But Assassin, Rampager, Sinister and Bezerker should all be view as optimal or near optimal choice depending on build/profession. And anet need a little bit more work to make that happen.

What mechanic's do you want to see(more of)?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

- I want content that push us to use more of the current mechanic in the game. Right now we use offensive buffing, reflect, aegis and blind a lot. But condition removal is niche to specific situation, same with stability. We almost never really need vigor, weakness, protection, resistance, boons removal, etc. CC is also niche (useful in specific situation, but not often or in coordinated group). We never really need to put poison on a boss to keep his healing in check or thing like that. A lot of mechanic are just not really utilized in PvE.

- I want more impact from failure. With down state, rally and waypoint, it doesn’t really affect the party if someone down or die. You just keep dpsing with some support and if you go down, not a big deal, you’ll rally.

- Attack that are hard to mitigate, but that you are able to mitigate. Attack that you can’t mitigate are not fun, you just absorb it, it’s passive. But slow easy to spot attack isn’t really fun either. Attack like the kick from lupi really need you to focus and I want more of that kind of stuff. If you die you know why and you can try to figure out what to do better next time.

- Range of difficulty. I don’t want new content to be so hard that a lot of people won’t have fun with it, but I also want new content to be hard enough to satisfy hardcore gamers. You can’t do that with one difficulty so you should be able to select the difficulty you want and it should range widely without relying on simply buffing the hp and damage of the mobs.

- A good reward/time/difficulty ratio. Good content is nice, but if the reward isn’t worth it, it will fade away over time. Some story mode, aetherblades path and fractal are relatively good content imo, but most of them have poor reward for the time or the difficulty they impose compare to some other dungeon or silverwate for exemple. Harder content should yield a better reward than easier content.

Almost every single traitline got buffed like mad and some very niche, pointless and poor builds got changed around. I don’t see a problem. Most people I’ve talked to love the specialisation system, after adjusting their various builds to fit with it.

RIP thief pistol/pistol
RIP ranger traps(throwable)

so…..buff? what buff. forcing us to play “League builds” instead of our old “less effective but more fitting to our own playstyle” build?

They screw up some build and that’s wrong, but overall we have more good option now than we use to have. They should keep improving it and fixing some of the build they broken.

You’ve made your own consumables bar.

The problem with that is that your consumable won’t be all in a invisible bag and they will show up at the seller if they ain’t accound/soulbind.

People here saying that getting rid of “worthless options” or only having access to optimized builds is a good thing… How so!

Eh… because it means more diversity?

If you got 16000 spec combinations, of which ~9 are sensible, or you got 810 spec combinations of which 12 are sensible, you just increased actual diversity by 33%.

Now, ideally these numbers converge. The less things the devs have to balance, the more balanced the remaining ones will be. In other words, in the ideal case at some point you’ll have only 40 or 50 possible ways to build your char, but all are viable.

Pretty much that. It’s easier to balance thing when the number of build is limited, but at the same time you want some diversity and it’s a hard thing to achieve. Personally, I’m not in board with all the change to the specialisation, but overall the system is better. Anet still have difficult to figure out what role their trait will improve and where to put them to help that kind of build, but they didn’t do a bad job either.

Thaddeus.4891

There is a difference between viable and optimal.
Also, I never said I would kick him myself, or that I agree with the people that kicked him, I was just explaining why a standard group of pugs would kick him.
Pugs are known to be kittened, and see metabattle as the holy grail and kick everybody that doesn’t use a metabattle build.
But in a sub-optimal situation where there is already a severe lack of DPS because of people not knowing what the hell they are doing, bringing a condition guardian (that probably doesn’t know what he’s doing as well) into the group will harm your DPS even more

Ya but nothing is optimal in a pug group, so it make no sense to kick ‘’not optimal build’’. We find out what are the optimal builds in an optimal setup, and then pugs try to enforce those optimal build in non optimal situation.

They are kicking people that could be doing more dps than they do on arbitrary reason, just because they think that know better than they do in reality. How much time it took pugs to finally realize that Warrior don’t have the best DPS or that Ranger and Engineer are actually good in PvE.

Pugs will continue to do that, but the least we can do is to not say thing like :

i got kicked for playing condi guard

Then don’t play condi guard?
I mean, if you really want to focus your build around condition damage instead of power, play engi, a class on which condi builds actually work.

I just dislike the viable vs optimal argument. Everything is viable and only one build is optimal. There is a HUGE HUGE range of build in between. From bad, to decent, to good, to great.

I mean, if you really want to focus your build around condition damage instead of power, play engi, a class on which condi builds actually work.

Pre-patch I would agree, but right now condi Guardian is a good build. About 8% less dps than zerker against single target, but more dps against group of mobs. No reason whatsoever to kick a guardian unless you want to break a record (but then you don’t pug).

And in a typical dungeon run, how often are you fighting against a group of targets, opposed to a single target? exactly…
Only place where a condition build’s DPS would get close to a power build is against targets with extremely high toughness, like abom in Arah p2

And? So 10-6% less dps make the build unviable or bad? Make sure that all the party have food, potion, good rotation, good composition, max might, fury, vulnerability and then come back to kick the condi guardian. The vast vast vast majority of group don’t fulfil all of those thing. They all use meta with around 20-50% less dps than they could achieve, but will cry about the 6-10% dps lost from one guys.

Engineers vs warrior/ele

in Players Helping Players

Engineer didn’t move much in PvE with the last big patch. It’s still a very good profession with higher DPS than most, good vulnerability and a couple of support/utility capability. But if he can do a bit of everything, there is always a profession that can do it better (except vulnerability). Ele do more damage, thief stealth better, warrior give more might, etc. That’s why it’s usually not view as a meta profession, but it’s one of the best profession to bring in a pug since you can do a great deal that the party lack. It’s also a difficult and interesting profession to play.

For PvP, it took a huge step back. It used to be a TOP profession with the Ele and now it’s in a difficult situation. Again, it’s a hard and interesting profession to play, but it’s not as powerful as before. People are trying new build and maybe the situation will improve. I still win my fair amount of fight with my engi, but less than before.

Yes but this isn’t really a bad thing. AR is easy enough to acquire, and serves as a built-in system to facilitate actually going up the FotM ranks instead of skipping to the final right away.

The problem isn’t the availability of AR. I have 3 characters fully geared for fractal 50. My points is that it used to be harder to complete fractal 30+. In level 30+ you just couldn’t have enough AR to survive any hits from an Agony attack. Each arrow from the Shaman could kill you (now down, dead right away).

That was the only hard content in the game. Each mistake had the potential to wipe your group. It could be frustrating, especially in pugs and it was bug never intented by Anet, but it was so freaking hard and so much more fun to play.

Build diversity for PvE

For PvE D/D is pretty much the king. S/P is decent against bosses and better than D/D against group of mobs, while giving you a lot more surviability. D/P is also decent but more niche. It have the less dps of the three, but give a lot of blind and CC when specific fight need them. Any other weapon combination drop a lot in efficiency. P/P for single target and Shortbow for group of mobs are not really good, but when you need range, they will do the job.

For specialisation most ppl have CD and DS. The third line have a bit more variety to it. Trickery is the best DPS/Support line, while Shadow Art is best when you need to stealth and Acrobatic give you more personnal surviablity.

Build diversity for PvP

D/P and S/D are on top of everything else. S/D, D/D and P/P are also decent options, but it’s a big drop in efficiency.

The Shortbow

You had the right answer for PvP, but for PvE, it’s all about the blast. The shortbow is the best way to blast a field. You don’t waste cooldown, no need to waste trait, etc. Either for a smoke field to stealth or a Fire field for might.

Thaddeauz [xQCx]- QC GUILD

is this build viable?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

1) You shouldn’t use water. It’s a good line for direct damage and burst with Ice-Bow, but for condition, it’s the worst choice.

2) Pyromancer’s Training is better than Power Overwhelming. I know it’s weird but Drake’s Breath for exemple with PT give around 3.5k DPS while the same skill with PO give only 2.7k DPS and that’s only for the burning. You also do more direct damage with PT than PO. Your burning hit less, but you put a lot more burning by attacking more often with hard hitting skills.

3) If you solo, then Zephyr’s Boon is a good choice, but in group you should always have fury and Ferocious Wind will be better.

4) Evasive Arcana is most of the time better than Elemental Surge. Elemental Surge in your build equal to 5s of burning each time you use an Arcane skill (20-24sec CD), while Evasive Arcane will give 2 stack of burning of 6s each time you you dodge. So even if you only dodge once each 20sec you will do more burning with EA than ES. It also free up a slot for another utility like Glyph of Elemental Power.

What is the actual dps of that kind of build compare to a Zerker Staff Ele? Not sure, but I doubt it will be close enough to be worth it in Dungeon/Fracal. But staff ele isn’t as easy to use in open world and this could be where a burning build could actually be better than a Staff Zerker build.

D/D have better dps than D/P. But D/P offer more utility to you and more option. Maybe you never been in the kind of situation i’ll talk about, but they will come with experience.

Shadowshot allow you to keep on target at a low cost. Shadowstep, steal, infiltrator’s signet, etc. They all help you keeping up with a enemy, but they all have long cooldown compare to the 4 initiative of Shadowshot. That way you can keep these longer cooldown in situation where you really need them. You are squishy as a thief and people know that you gonna backstab them. You need to keep up with them and hit them hard quick or retreat. If you start to chase them, they can just load damage on you, while you are not in melee range and you gonna lose at that game. HS is also a good gap closer, but it’s half the range of Shadowshot.

Blackpower is your most important skill.

1) You can use it + HS to stealth you. People know you want to backstab them, so they try to keep their distance with a thief. Easier to BP+HS than to try to C&D them before you backstab. It’s also a more versatile stealth than C&D since you can stealth away from anyone before a fight or to escape and you can HS 3 time in the same BP for a long duration stealth.

2) BP is a blinding field. Stomping is a very important and difficult part of the game against better players. B/P is a really good way to stomp several profession at a low cost (compare to the CD of a stab, block, etc for other profession). You can even use it on a player that a teamate is trying to stomp to help him. It also allow you to fight in close range on a point by blinding your opponents or use it with the Warrior stolen object for some blinding projectile.

Headshot is an important daze. Not as important as the other two skills, but still. You can interupt some healing skill and players trying to rez other people. It’s niche weapon, but once you know how to time it, it can be a game changer in a fight.

D/P just have to many useful tools compare to D/D.

Best build these days are

Bezerker GS + Mace/Torch (or Focus) – Zeal/Radiance/Virtue

Bezerker GS + Mace/Torch (or Focus) – Zeal/Radiance/Honor

Bezerker Hammer + Mace/Torch (or Focus) – Zeal/Radiance/Honor

Sinister GS + Mace (and Scepter)/Torch – Zeal/Radiance/Virtue

Condition Guardian

On a power build you can use Focus instead of Torch. It’s a bit of a dps lost, but not a big deal. But if you want to run condition damage without torch, we can’t really help you there buddy.

Is Berserk Guardian still best pve?

Thaddeus.4891

Silv, why is direct damage always better? There are advantages for using condi in PVE. For instance, you get more freedom to ‘break rotation’ and still get your damage in.

That’s just a numbers games. Condition guardian is better against group of mobs than direct damage, but is weaker against single targets in group content. For most dungeon, single target bosses are the most important fight, the fight that take longer and where you want most of your dps. That’s the reason why Beserker guardian are view as better than condition guardian.

In solo situation, they are almost equal against single target and condition still have a advantage in fighting group of mobs. So in that situation, they are both equally good, with condition being a bit better.

Additionally, a Zerker guardian only need Signet of Bane to achieve their normal dps, while Sinister Guardian need Signet of Wrath, Purging Flames and Judge Intervention. Sinister Guardian need to sacrifice more of their personnal dps to bring support like Wall of Reflection or retreat.

But in the end, both are really close to each other if played right.

Great Fractal change but I have one ISSUE.

Personnaly, I’m not super happy that they shorten the fractal. For me it Fractal = longer content and dungeon = shorter content. For me it doesn’t make sense to have only short content.

But, I think that they changed it because of that incoming challenging group content. Think about it. In the post they said and I quote.

‘’… we view fractals as our infinitely expandable, endgame version of 5-man dungeon content … ’’

‘’… focusing on making sure the ones you experience will be truly challenging as you progress deeper into the fractals … ’’

So for me it seem that the new challenging group content will be for group of more than 5 people and Anet maybe want that content to be longer in time, so now it make sense to not have both Fractal and Challenging group content being time consuming challenging content.

We see this kind of post for the last 2 years, never had problem getting a group. Yup sometime I had to wait 5-10min for my group to fill up, but never more than that, and usually it fill up almost instantly. I just had 2 weeks of vacation and I did all dungeon paths except SE path 2 and Arah path 4 almost everyday during the first week. Never had any problem for any path.

Conditioner in Dungeon

Condi ranger is the second best condi build in PvE and has better sustained DPS than the berserker build, and much of it is burning. Not sure where the idea that it didn’t have good burning access is coming from.

I absolutely believe you when you say that, although I have no first hand experience, but they’ve been looked down on for so long that it probably doesn’t matter. Chances are you’ll still be kicked out of a group before you can even say “wait, I’m a torch ranger!”

Ranger is really good in dungeon since september 2014. Ya pug are really slow to evolve to that kind of things, but kicking Ranger just for being a Ranger is something you see less and less. It been several months since the last time I saw a No Ranger LFG.

WoW guys. Calm down. The record for AC path 1 is 4min so you won’t see much pug do it in 5min if at all. 10-15min is a good average for a PuG AC path 1. But for the 3 hours, that’s pretty bad too.

If we go back to the subject. It seem that the issue had been answered both on the forum and on reddit. You gonna need to do all the different Islands on different scale to reach level 100.

Issues facing the Engineer in PvP

I have to disagree here. Condition removal for us right now is far stronger than it has ever been. Most builds have the potential to remove 9+ conditions just by taking
E-Gun and 1 Elixir. It is not that we lack condition removal, but rather you trait for it, which is not horrible in itself either as you get excellent might stacking potential in the process.

Ya but you said it yourself. You need elixir to have good condition removal and elixir wasn’t part of any of the best build pre-patch. Now ppl explore those becasue of the need for more condition removal.

gg lost 2k gold with this update

Thaddeus.4891

Not entirely true. Even if something has a 3k gold difference between buy and sell listings, there WILL be players who will legitimately sell to a low buy offer instead of waiting for a sell listing to be fulfilled, just like players that WILL spend the 3k+ gold on a sell order instead of waiting for a buy order to be fulfilled.

You are more than welcome to bet your gold on that small amount of players. I’ll make smarter investment on my side
