Thaddeus.4891

Why do you guys mention that we are not supposed to have tanks, no trinity, and that the OP should play other games? Have you not read the post about raids?

Yes we saw it and? Some people read what anet say and predict the arrival of holy trinity since day one for some reason, that’s not new. I saw nothing, zero nada in that post that would lead me to believe that Holy Trinity is coming.

Will they make an harder content? Yes of course

Will it be difficult enough that a larger portion of the community won’t be able to survive with active defense only? Probably

Will some more tanky and healing build emerge in raid to help some player go through smoother? I bet yes. We already see this today, it’s just very marginal and with raid it may make up for a large portion of the community.

Will DPS + Support Meta still be the most optimal ways when played well? I’m 100% sure of that.

Surviability and healing might be more important than they are now. Like a more tanky build doing a more dangerous job or a healer helping the team keep up their health. But you won’t have dedicated tank that keep agro and an healer that keep your team alive. Everybody will be responsible for DPS and their own survivability.

I don’t care about what happens in underleveled dungeons, no one min/maxes for that unless they are going for record runs which is all of 4 guilds in the game.

At level 80 the data is pretty clear: http://www.dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/23370398-average-boss-kill-time

So again, you giving me some BS anecdotes about your team melting bosses in 10 seconds is not an argument nor is it evidence. This is the data from record runs, until you offer something more compelling than that you should probably let my point stand.

While i understand ur talking about level 80 dungeons , it not what most people do. Even good group tend to avoid them cause they aren’t worth it. So to completely disregard under level dungeons (which some people do min max within reason) is a complete disregard of the majority of good players.

What?? CoF, CoE and Arah are some of the most profitable dungeon in the game with AC.

According to your data the kill times vary a lot, just like I expected. So the average is a meaningless number. I mean if you wanted to break a record you’d have to optimize for that specific boss and the previous record would tell you what window of time to optimize around. Optimizing for the average would probably not get you a new record.

I forgot why we’re talking about kill times but obviously it’s a case by case thing.

Remember that those are record run numbers. No pugs reach these numbers. So in reality very few bosses are killed under 10sec which was the initial point we disagreed with.

I think it would be a good idea for the expansion for them to add a taunt specialization to tankier classes. By taunt I mean a way for them to attract the aggro from mobs. This would make becoming a tank much more useful to a party.

Plenty of Holy Trinity game out there for tank lover. This game isn’t about that.

People use Meta for PVE. Why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

It’s not Flavor of the months. Flavor of the months usually don’t last. Meta build usually last until a big update and even then, it’s usually the same build with some modification.

Flavor of the month we have that in the game in PvP. Power ranger was one. A popular powerful one side build that never was viewed as a meta build. Same with Power necro at some point.

The right name is meta. Not the perfect term, but it’s the one that the community use.

Why not have Titles give passive buffs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thaddeus.4891

I want to choose the title that I love and I’m proud to have, not because it’s the title that give me the best buff.

That would like having to take a ugly armor because it’s the best one I have. We already have account wide buff of gold finding, karma and MF. Why add another one?<

That said, they could improve the Title system. There is so much worthless title that you can gain with almost no effort. There is very few title that tell a story about what you did in the game.

Returning Player - Few Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

1) Mainly by crafting exotic and ascended material refinement to a lesser extend. Look at gw2crafts.net like Linfang said.
2) Not much. Make sure your build is up to date, exotic is more than enough and then practice. Ascended can give you a very small advantage, but it won’t help you win a fight against a better player.
3) Not sure what do you mean. They are simply recipe to craft ascended weapons
4) You should work on ascended trinket. They are usually easy to get and give a good boost to your stats. Ascended weapon are also good, but you can either craft it or drop it in Teq, Fractal, etc. Ascended armor you can get from crafting or drop in fractal, but even if they boost a little your stats, they ain’t that more powerful than exotic armor. It should be a medium to long term goal.

GW2 has been out for 3 years and people still haven’t learned that an MMO can’t function without even a small level of trinity.

Guardians and warriors are tankiest
Elementalists, Guardians (and close second, Rangers) are the best healers
Thieves and warriors are the best DPS
Necros are the best at applying conditions (aka best debuffers)

Except you are wrong :P Condi engineer with sinister gear on 14th second outdpses everything in the game atm.

Necros are far from best condi applicants, Ele and Engie make them jelly in that regard.

How do you measure tankiness? Sure warriors got armor and HP but many classes got invuls and lots of blinds too and necros have Death Shroud.

Yeah yeah okay whatever, you’re may be right but it doesn’t matter who is this tankiest and best DPS or whatever, my point about there being a certain level of trinity still stands

And still, in most situation we focus Warrior and Guardian way before a Elementalist in PvP

That’s what I mean: that was an uncommonly awful group! He didn’t even leave the stack (at all, not even a short distance), but “well, the model moved, so you did it wrong”. Yeah.

Doesn’t help that it was pretty much my first run-in with “stack and whack”. Bad first impressions, and all that.

You encounter try hards. People that think they are good, but need a strict setup to be able to work properly. Can’t adapt and can’t even play efficiently (even if they think they do). They are the worst, but they exist in all game. It’s life man, we all need to learn how to deal with them.

1) The only thing that changed in the last 6 months is the specialisation update. The way the build system work and how condition work. It was a lot of fun theorycrafting and a lot more build diversity exist in the game. But Anet is a break to focus on the expansion which will come in 2 months so no new content.

2) I love the meta. Hopefully they didn’t change it. The expansion is suppose to bring more difficult content that will push the game toward more support and the new break bar is suppose to bring more control into PvE. I don’t know if they will succeed.

3) The specialisation changed a lot. Necro is one of the best profession in sPvP these days, still awesome in WvW, but it still lacking in PvE. Ranger and Engineer got buffed with some awesome condition damage PvE build. In PvP, it’s free for all, same with Warrior which can now be DPS and Phalanx at the same time. In PvP, pretty much all profession have some very powerful build.

Is it worth getting back in the game? Depend on you. I love the game since day one, but the lack of content drove me in break a couple of time. But I always get back into it and with the incoming expansion, I’ll probably stick with the game for the next year.

Dungeon bosses drop in 10 seconds anyways with a good group.

No, they don’t. At level 80, the average boss fight in record runs is 24 seconds. That’s record runs. Not casual LFG pugs. Record runs. Where people are doing the absolute best min max damage they can do. So please take note that Vulnerability production is incredibly important.

Are you aware that several guilds use Frailty sigils on their weapons in level 80 dungeon record runs? It’s that important.

Maybe I should post some videos then cause the majority of bosses we can drop in 10 seconds. Final bosses for dungeons r a bit longer sometimes but still not very long. I don’t so arah so maybe that’s what ur referring to.

There is a couple of boss that drop under 10 because all of them are in underlevel dungeons. The vast majority of bosses don’t drop under 10sec even in current record run. If you kill them faster than record run you should make a video and get a record for yourself.

One missing key skill and you’re way behind the zerker.

That’s exactly why i am doubting of using condi build on my engi ) But yeah, condi engi now is pretty cool and interesting.

I don’t find the rotation more or less difficult than power grenadier. It’s pretty much the same. In condi build it’s just that you have 5 skill that are really important to not miss, while in power build it’s more like 3. The difference is small and you can screw up your dps in a power build almost as much as in a condi build.

The main problem with Sinister is that you are horrible with Icebow and you do bad damage to structure.

I do think OP has a point though regarding Raids and Gated items. Sure it’s not gear progression stat-wise, but if we do see Legendary armor locked for Raids, then we’re in the same boat since it is a separate gear tier, with unique benefits (stat-changing).

It’s a skin and a QoL advantage. It’s optional so not a gear progression. The OP have no point.

If you don’t like the skin you have no reason whatsoever to try to get the legendary armor. It will probably cost you less to craft 2 ascended armor with different stats than a legendary armor that you can stats swap. And if anything, the legendary armor will probably won’t allow you to swap runes like legendary weapons, making the stats swamping pretty much useless.

I really think people make too much noise just to justify their own control obsession.

I really want to know:
Why the gear of the other players is so important?
Is not more important the skill than the gear?
And is not more important the teamwork than the individual skill?

Finally:
If all this “perfect team” thing is so important, why to play with PuGs in the first place?

Personally, I never ask for gear check. All I ask in my lfg is level 80 experienced and If I kick, it’s because the guy searched for it.

But my question to you is why someone would have to justify his requirement? He can play the way he want, with who he want, with whatever requirement he want. How does it affect you? As long as he right them on the LFG, if you don’t like them don’t join.

If the guy like to wait and check every member, why shouldn’t be able to do so? How does his run affect your life?

I find most of those requirement useless and stupid, but it doesn’t matter because i’m not the one playing in his run. He is and he can play whatever the way he want.

They are HoT-only. However, the aim is that they are not stronger than core specializations thus people without HoT should be as strong as people with HoT. To what extent that is true is something that is difficult to predict.

Yeah, I’m pretty worried about p2w with this elite specs. Scary stuff, you know. Epsecially in sPvP

That’s not scary. For now, if anything most elite seem underpowered versus the core specialisation. So even if one or two end up on the meta list, they won’t be that much powerful than the core build. I don’t see any problem. Now if one of those elite create a very powerful build like the DD Cele Elementalist, that could be a problem, but I douldt that from what I saw until now.

Anet refuses to add the proper tools to see if people are geared and built correctly so even though AP is a terrible indicator people use what they have because it is still better than nothing at all.

Umm, what business is it of someone else what other people have for gear? Do not trust someone when you ask what they have? Do not party with them. Even the person who has the best gear in the world might stab you in the back at the worst possible time so I have no idea why what gear someone has would make a difference.

What am I missing? I would think whether you trust someone would be FAR more important than what gear they claim to have.

It doesn’t matter if you agree or not with the requirement that he ask. As long as he ask them, people should respect them. Because there is a lot of different people in the game, each with their preference.

YES YES YES YES.

For the health of the game this need to be added.

- Meta Run
- Speed Run
- Experienced
- Level 80 only
- Full clear run

All of those shouldn’t be selected when you first get the game so that new player don’t get into a level 80, full run by mistake. You shouldn’t be able to select Level 80 only if you are not on a level 80.

That would help so much the community. This should also come with a revamp of the kicking system. The guys that started the dungeon path should be the party leader and can’t be kicked.

1) Too bad for you. Selling is there since GW1 and will continue to be with the blessing of Anet.

2) A lot of people like skipping and it’s part of the game for them (I include myself). But true enough, Anet doesn’t really handled them very well. Skipping should fall into two category. First is skipping by a meaningful choice. You can either skip for a faster run, of fight for more reward. Right now, most skipping are not a choice since there is no incentive to fight everything. The second situation are obligatory skipping. This should be clear with unkillable super boosted enemies that are hard to skip.

Sorry but IMO your solutions are bad. The first isn’t a problem, while the second are just forcing players to play the way YOU want. Infinite Leash and Barrier are not good design. They are just ways to force player into a specific way of playing.

Standardization of Healing/Elite Skill

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Thaddeus.4891

Thaddeus.4891

Anet is clearly working toward the standardization of their skill type. They gave a skill type to almost every single healing and elite skill in the game with the exceptions of Shelter, Mending and Ether Feast. All specialisation gain one skill type for all their utilities/healing/elite and more and more skill type are recycled to allow more synergy with runes and trait across all profession.

With all that in mind, it make sense for Anet to fill all the skill type without any Healing and Elite skills. I doudt they will do that for the expansion, but it’s fun to imagine what kind of skill they could add. Here a list of several option. I intentionally left those skill without any numbers in term of duration, cd, etc. Because a discussion about balance could take forever.

I a meta elitist, but you are right on that. People should respect the LFG whatever the LFG said. It goes both ways.

The only points I would made is that maybe they did respected your LFG. ‘’not skipping, non-exploit, playing content’’.

First of all playing content mean zero kitten. That have zero value because everybody have their own definition about playing the game. About anything can be playing content.

Non-exploit is pretty narrow. Don’t use bugs, safe spots where the ennemy can’t reach your, but you can reach them, etc. But with your history of posting I fear that you think that stacking and LOSing are exploit. THEY ARE NOT. You may not like it, but they are legitimate tactics (inefficient tactics most of the time, but tactics).

Oh Oh Oh I know the answer to that. Get better? Pugs are using corner stacking only because it’s an easier method and because they are used to it. In speed run there is maybe 5 bosses that are worth doing in a corner, if you count optional bosses that number is maybe 10. That for all dungeons/fractals of the game, which represent a tiny percentage of all fight.

Not our problem or the game’s problem if pugs are bad and use easy inefficient tactics.

5) I like skipping and stealth. But I agree that it’s not made in the best way possible. They should have part specifically made for skipping that made it hard to skip. They should also make it a difficult choice to make between fight and skipping. When the fight is boring and not rewarding the choice to skip is easy. But when I can go quicker by skipping, but I lose some nice fight and some reward, then the situation is different.

6) It depend what mechanics the devs will include. If the content is hard enough (harder than level 50), we probably gonna see some healer in some group just to make the run smother and easier. For necromancer specifically, if they could include mechanics where the necromancer is actually good, it would help. Enemies that have high crit chance and dodge, so that weakness is important, enemies with boons on a regular basis so that you need to corrupt them, etc. Necromancer have some strong mechanics, they are just near useless in the current PvE content.

7) Depend. That’s mostly because of projectile defense, because outside of that, most profession can do the job that a guardian or a mesmer can do. Maybe not as good, but still. Remember that raid are 10 man, so you have room for more build diversity in your group.

8) Support is a pretty big part of the PvE content right now and just by making stuff harder, it will be an even bigger part of it. As for control it will depend on their break bar system.

Dropping the Staff would be a great start

Tbh Staff is just a bad weapons for PvE Figth. It’s a great lootstick for zerg events, it’s good for switfness when you run around, but for actual fighting, not so much.

You can either drop the staff so you have 2 weapons to fight with, or you fight with your GS only, and swap to staff between fight. We probably can give you a build for both.

Will this expansion address issues in PvE?

Not adding anything at all for 8 months is not good, especially for a game with limited challenging PvE content as is.

Also, I think you need to take off those Anet bedsheets for a second. What was my purpose for creating this thread? I wanted to see, if with the expansion, they would be addressing the issues that I’ve mentioned. So I don’t get where you’re seeing me complain about the lack of kitten.

Take a chill pill, breh.

Well not updating a particular portion of the game and not updating the game at all are different concept. The last living world episode was 7 months ago and since then they release the specialisation update, which was pretty huge.

Anet was pretty steady when it come to update. After all they did 29 content update in the first 2.5 years of the game. Granted, these were not all big and great, but a lot of them were.

Like Protogunner said. Anet is concentrating on the expansion so that’s why we are left with no new content the last 7 months and the next 2 months.

You don’t even need to do map completion. Just run around and do more hero challenge, which are easy. A little work won’t kill you..

Multiply that “little work” by 9×. Or do you only play one single character? I mean it’s possible, but i get the feeling most people have several characters.

Look at my next post right after that one.

Did I really just read a thread that said pve is abandoned lol? X3

Dungeons have been abandoned.
Fractals haven’t gotten any updates since I’ve last played, like 8 months ago.
DE’s throughout the world have also been abandoned, haven’t gotten any fixes on any of the existing ones that need a fix either.

The only new thing/s are those 2 zones that got added, as far as I know anyway. But do tell if I’m wrong here.

You are right on dungoen, but we know that for the last 2 years.

Fractal : So what? Does everything need an upgrade each 2months or they are abandonned? It take time to code those thing. In 2 months they gonna get a major updage, nothing to whine about here.

Just 2 weeks ago they fixed Ogre Wars.

Can you at least wait for the expansion. It’s right there. Who the kitten whine about lacking update 2 months before an expansion. Should Anet take a break of the expansion to give some new upgate?

Daredevil / Trickery/ X?

in Thief

Thaddeus.4891

It depend on what build. Here some possible combination that could work (we’ll have to test them).

D/P (DA/TRICK/DD) : on the current meta, SA is mostly for survivability, which DD can do better IMO. Mostly because while dodging you don’t let the enemy decap the point. The big problem here is the lost of Hidden Thief.

S/D (DA/TRICK/DD) : Mostly getting back the old S/D build with some upgrade.

D/D (DA/DD with TRICK or ACRO) : Condition build. You mostly dodge and #3 to evade while doing condition. Trick isn’t as mandatory there, so maybe Acro would be better because in that situation, more dodge = more damage.

It’s you. Nobody ever saw that ever and nobody talked about that in any tread before you.

Yes we all know that they changed acrobatics because they knew that dodge was their focus for the DD. Is that a bad or a wrong thing? IMO DD is better overall than Acrobatic for the dodge concept. That said, they don’t have a lot of option, they need to nerf the dodge from Acro or a Acro/DD thief would be just insane.

Where I disagree with Anet, is that they should gave Acrobatic a new personality. Now it just seem like the akward Daredevil little brother.

What is/was challenging content and why?
You say dungeons and fractals are easy and that’s something that contradicts my experience, so I was wondering what you find challenging enough and why that is so?

A lot of us can solo most dungeon and trio fractals so not really that hard. But that’s the thing. Challenging will depend on each person. That’s why I REALLY REALLY hope that the difficulty will be variable. So that casual can complete the content, but that elite players can still have a challenge to face in a year.

The get the exact same game 99% of us have right now. You have either a payed account of a Free one.

With the expansion you will have either a core accound, a free one or a HoT one. If you plan to get the expansion, you should just buy HoT now, it will cost you less. If you want to try the game, take the free account and see if you want to upgrade to HoT.

I think that most elite won’t be part of any meta in dungeon. Maybe chronomancer and reaper will be better than Mesmer and Necro, but that’s it. And I don’t think the difference will be huge.
