Anet, why don’t you simply admit the Trinity is an essential part of gaming beyond the zergs we’ve had for three long years?

This incremental move toward roles, clearly demonstrated in the current and previous beta events, is tiresome.

Dexlmentia, why don’t you simply admit that Anet is just isn’t the game for you as you think that trinity is an essential part of gaming, but you are not alone in the world and a lot of other people like different thing that you do.

Support trait with Zerger gear and a good rotation should still make you super useful while keeping decent dps. You should keep the healing power stuff for fractal 50 and eventually raids.

Actually parts what I understood is that randoms now think the Meta is all about certain classes going zerk, not understanding that they arnt going to achieve meta since they dont go icebow (lol), and that they often overextend by pillar hugging n doing stuff that makes the dungeon runs longer – while also dying due to their squishyness as zerks – and that class x has viable/competable weapon variants beyond what metabattle/wiki claims. Meaning he didnt say it was all about the DPS, which the zerk meta is all about.

Now try to imagine how I give a kitten about try hard and bad wannabe meta zerker. I don’t want to talk about them when we talk about what is more or less good. I only talk about them to QQ how bad they are

just sayin’, mr. rev has to sacrifice all of its energy regen to maintain protection, meaning you can’t do kitten but to aa. Hammer guards can do other stuff to give buffs and defensive utilities. I mean, it sure is very good, but great or very practical? Hmm. I dunno. We’ll see.
(you also have to knock all the enemies around when you can’t maintain it anymore, ghhh gs mesmer x20)

Well you can’t have everything. Perma protection is pretty powerful and shouldn’t come without drawback.

Guardian need to camp hammer and don’t have that much of a range. And Herald sacrifice his energy regen.

Most likely feels harder now just because it is new and you haven’t learned how to deal with the new skills yet.

Pretty much this. I don’t play mesmer so on the last BWE event the chronomancer was mind kitten me really hard. I had a hard time fighting against it, but my friend that play mesmer wasn’t finding it so much more powerful. It doesn’t even know if he want to play it at the expansion.

This always happen when a new build become popular.

Ok no I made a mistake. He’s doing the 14.7k without using the icebow himself. He’s doing it while the team is using icebow.

The point here would be that with a shorter fight (because of icebow), he spend more time as a percentage of the fight either in lich form or DS where he does more damage. In longer fight (without icebow) he spend almost the same amount of time in lich form and DS, but since the first last longer he need to auto-attack for more time dropping his overall dps.

That doesn’t change anything. In short fight Necromancer can have decent DPS (between Guardian and Thief I guess), but with a Cooldown of 180sec because of lich.

Like a lot of people already said. Necromance isn’t bad a all. It have a high burst single target burst capability, but that’s not enough to make him a peer to all other profession.

Hopefully the Reaper GS will give him a decent enough weapon to keep his DPS high when he’s out of Lich Form/DS.

After that we can just cross our finger so that raid need a lot of boons ripping and weakness uptime.

Are you trying to prove my point that you shouldn’t use bursting builds everywhere ?… That there is no zerker meta ?… I’m confused…

Most meta are build around 30sec rotations. Most of them are even base of shorter rotation.

DnT make sure of that. That,s why they use 30sec rotation and that’s one of their rules for submitting them a rotation video.

- Guardian rotation is 24second
- Warrior is 16 second repeatable and a initial adrenaline pumping on a 60sec CD, which can be drop to 30second with only a lost of like 5% dps for the first 3-4sec of the fight.
- Elementalist is 30second
- Thief it’s like 5second
- Ranger is 20 second
- Engineer is don’t know my fingers hurts

True the Icebow bring must burst to 60 cooldown.

But to reach 14,7k dps on a necro it’s a 180 sec cooldown to repeat it. I mean, that’s a big difference.

Unless I missed it, I didn’t see him actually use an Ice Bow on his Necro at any point in the video. I think he mentioned the Ice Bow in those fights to specify that his team was using the Ice Bow even though he wasn’t (which would’ve reduced the time-to-kill significantly and raised his relative DPS since a lot of it came from Lich Form bursting).

Well he give 3 DPS for the Necro. The first is like 8k, the second is like 7k for two different build.

Then the screen got to black and he give a dps of 14K. Then he say.

Did I had another build? No

So what is different? I present to you line casting Icebow

So he’s saying that the same build without using icebow is 8k and 14k with line casting icebow.

After sleeping on it, I’m a bit torn about the video.

On the one hand, I do think he makes a number of interesting points:

1) I agree that Icebow should be nerf a little. Ice Storm a coefficient/second of casting of around 7 compare to 8. for Meteor Shower. But Meteor shower is a lot bigger so if you take into account that Meteor shower is probably more like 5 Coefficient/second of casting. So they could nerf it by 30% of increase hits radius to 360. Line casting isn’t that much of a problem. It’s banned in speed run, and kind of difficult to do for a lot of pugs. But it’s an exploit and shouldn’t be in the game. But it doesn’t wrap the meta. All the math done by DnT exclude the icebow. The meta would be the same if there was no Icebow with only some small modification. It’s more in the execution that it would have a big impact.

2) But we pretty much always add a note when we talk about dps. We said the full buffed dps of that profession is that xx dps. It’s to provide a base situation with which we can compare each profession. It’s easier to compare them with full buff than no buff because you always have some buff on you. They are part of the build so which buff do you exclude? It’s just easier to include them all. So unless you have no idea of how the game work you know that DnT’s number are full buff since the first second, which isn’t representative of the reality, but give you a good way to compare different profession.

3) Completely agree. The number are good, but know how he present them. In another post he compare the 14.7K dps of his necro to a 9k dps of a warrior. HE COMPARED THEM. Even tho the necro was full dps with an Icebow burst and the warrior was a PS with no Icebow. The number are good, but the present them like an idiot to make his point.

4) I agree that skipping isn’t handle very well in gw2, but I don’t skip 90% of all content in any dungeon path. I like skipping and hope that anet bring more intelligent skipping. Stuff that are as hard to skip as they are to fight. Or stuff that are rewarding to fight, but you can still skip if you want to go faster but gain less reward.

I actually agree with Nemesis on the dps math there. It’s far superior to use damage log. But like (can’t see the name now, with that forum bug lol) pointed out, the RNG is real. So you need to make a couple of test to have the right number.

It’s also highly variable depending on your team (buff) and the level of skills. So even if it’s a great way to see what is your actual dps. It’s not really practical to compare different profession.

Nemesis do make fair points though in his last response, which is what his vid is about, dont let your hate get in your way, which is also what his vid is about..

But what his point?

- Necromancer don’t have that much less dps than other profession while using an Icebow? We already know that.

- Necromancer have a 8k dps compare to the Warrior 12k in group settings? We already know that.

- Pre buffs is usually not a good idea overall unless you can’t attack the boss right away? I agree with that point.

- Warrior have a lot less dps in solo situation. The DPS difference between necro and warrior in that situation are marginal.? We know that already.

The thing is Nemesis try to beat the meta with DPS numbers and continue to say that Meta is only about DPS DPS. But still, the Necromancer isn’t push out of the meta because of his dps, but because of his support. If DPS was the only thing important, Mesmer would not be part of the meta.

Never seen any LFG excluding Ranger in the last 6-8 months. Ranger is good in PvP for a long time (it’s even better since the specialisation patch), it’s great in dungeon since september 2014. In WvW, nobody care in pug zerg and Ranger is good for roaming for a long time. True Ranger isn’t one of the all time best profession, but still qqing about the general performance of the ranger is getting old. The professsion is in a good place right now.

well even in fotm, hammer prot symbol is not that useful most of the time, it basically is only useful for the guardian to some extend and no one else.

It’s limited to slow moving ennemies, that’s true. The Herald will do a far superior job at keeping perma protection.

hammer prot radius too small to be good for raids.

Did they release raids? I don’t think we can say stuff like that until we know what is the content. Anyway, the radius of the symbol is 240, which is higher than most melee range weapons.

You also have the Herald who can do the same with a radius of 600, can’t really go higher than that.

Can you get a permanent uptime on some of these defensive buffs? I feel wipes usually happen when people rely on active defenses that have windows where they aren’t up.

Guardian can give perma protection with Hammer and Writ of Persistence.

Even if they did fix the bad encounter/AI design that doesn’t change the fact the necro has little utility and active defense and even in a more active fight our dps wouldn’t be worth it to take over anything more useful.

Well they can fix that if they want. If reaper give enough dps to the necro to reach decent numbers similar to guardian for exemple. This will help him a lot.

The other part is to give hime some support capability. But he doesn’t need he gain new ability. He have a lot of support stuff, but they just don’t matter in the current PvE content.

Enemies that have a lot of crits or a reworking of weakness to make it a more consistent debuff would give a good defensive capability for the necromancer. I’m hopeful about that, because anet said that they will give stats to enemies like precision. They said that in the fractal post. Giving an endurance bar to ennemies with an IA that try to dodge when a burst is incoming would even more increase the power of weakness.

Give important boons to ennemies. Ennemies that can get high amount of might and fury to have devastating attacks and vigor/protection for a good defense would push players to corrupt or strip their boons. Mesmer and Necro are the only profession that can do that on a high level. The more important boons strip/corrupt is important the more importance a necromance will have.

Give more condition to ennemies. Necromancer is good for transfering conditions, which would help the team survive, but also increase the pressure on ennemies.

So there is way to create content that work with the strength of the necro.

Also, if he’s going by the logic of “no best, just best at”, why is he citing Ranged Necro damage, without comparing to other ranged setups?

I don’t understand what I was supposed to learn from this video? Besides that Ice Bow is broken, what about Necros was he trying to tell us?

Didn’t you saw. The Necro have a DPS of 14.7 and the Warrior a dps of 9k. Necromancer is clearly better.

I… who outdps most if not all of the “wannabe-elitists scrubs” that you have seen times and times again in my videos… people who only get down and talking kitten…

I… get insta-kick… for playing builds that burst 14.7K (higher then META-warrior), by people who don’t have a clue about anything…
BUT… when it’s the other way around, i don’t kick even when i have good reason..

See that’s right there why your message don’t come across. Your first sentence is right. wannabe are stupid are kick people they are sometime better than them for stupid reason. But right after that you just push some crap on our face.

You said it yourself in your video with some machiavellic laugh, a black screen, what seem to be some peanuts but no epic music. By using the same build that do 8k dps but this time with line casting Icebow you reach 14,7k dps.

But then you compare that to the video at the start of Brazil on a warrior doing 12k DPS in fight, and 9k dps if you count the pre-buff. We saw the video, Brazil never use any icebow in that video.

So you have some good points but you do this kind of stuff all the time and that’s why people don’t take you seriously. You are so anti-meta that you bind the truth as much as try hards wannabes.

What is your gear, there is nothing in your build.

If you focus on more condition then you absolutely need torch over focus. Especially since you take Radiant Fire which is a useless trait if you don’t have torch. That trait recharge your skill 4.

In group you should have perma fury, so unless it’s for solo situation you should take Right-Handed mastery instead of Inner Fire.

Utilities are extremely important for condition guardian. You should have as much as possible the following in your bar. Judge Intervention, Purging Flames and Signet of Wrath. Defensive skill like retreat and wall of reflection should be use only when needed in a particular situation.

This make pure of voice even less good for your build since you shouldn’t have any shout except in some specific situation.

PvE meta is very strict. If you’re not looking to play the meta builds, then you might as well just pick whatever you want and hope that you don’t find any groups that will care about low DPS.

Try hard are very strict. Good players either change their build a lot through each run to min-max or don’t really care what other people bring because they can solo the dungeon anyway.

To me, PvE is the only good thing this game offers. SPvP and WvW are some of the most boring things I’ve done in an mmo. I would primarily call myself a PvP player too in other games.

If not wanting to play with players who aren’t like-minded and don’t have the same goal as me is elitist than I don’t know what to tell you. You expect everybody to play like you but then get all kitten when other players who have different opinions want to play with only like-minded players. Sounds more like you’re the elitist who thinks they are better and right. We’re not trying to convert anybody, just keep them out of our parties. You’re actively trying to ruin our runs and join us even though we don’t want you and tell us about how we’re the devil.

Just because you’re pugging doesn’t mean you want the run to take 15 extra minutes because people are so stuck in their own selfish world that they think wearing clerics and not attacking anything is an acceptable thing to do.

I understand your point. But no need to turn that into a witch hunt either. I only ask for experienced 80 in my LFG for the last 3 years and the number of run that take 15min and more is very very few. It happen from time to time and it suck. But it’s not like one run out of two are bad.

Zerk Meta is the majority in the game and clerics guardian are the minority. That’s like Christian in america crying for more protection from sharia law and stuff.

No, I’ll know for next time who was responsible for slowing down my run.

You can’t see that by your one without a dps meter? When someone slow down my run, I know who it is. Do they have good food, good weapons, good rotations, what skill do they use, do they have some weird buff like a signet of stone or something. How many people have all of those, but play in Soldier gear? Very few.

The only thing it would lead to was people kicking players from their party that don’t meet their requirements. I personally see that as a good thing. Play with like-minded individuals. I shouldn’t have to carry you because you wear clerics any more than you should have to put up with me trying to force zerker on you. The game needs to tools to differentiate or we’re doomed to argue forever.

So you will complete the dungeon with the guys and then see that he have bad dps and kick him. When the run is over? That help you. It’s a pug. Random people will have random result. If you really want to make sure your group meet specific requirement you can make a team of people you know. Or you can ask some requirement in the LFG without any certainty that they will meet them because they can lie.

There should be a dps meter in the game. It just shouldn’t be shown to everyone. Could could just add time next to your damage in your chat so everyone could see how much dps they do.

But like other people said. Allowing everybody to see the damage of the others can lead to some nasty conversation that we don’t need in the game.

I think Guardians will still be useful in PvE, but in PvP we’re already almost entirely out of the meta, with Bunker Guard somewhat making a comeback but still not really being all that powerful. Dragonhunter looks like a waste of time no matter where you look, so I don’t see our chances really improving much.

Bunker Guardian and Burn Guardian are everywhere these days. I’m not saying they are the absolute best. But they have a very strong presence and are far from out of the meta.

Direct Damage : Torch and Focus are better than Shield
Condition Damage : Torch is better
Defensive: Focus is better

So what does the shield do better? It give protection, but the guardian can give perma protection to his team if you need it or have a instant cast protection with a shout.

The skill 5 have projectile defense, but the Guardian is already king of that with Wall of Reflection and Shield of Avenger and the skill 5 is the less pratical source of projectile defense of the guardian so no need.

The skill 5 also push back. Which is something the guardian don’t really have outside the shield. But push back is not really useful in PvE, if anything it’s a bad thing because it push enemies outside of your range of attack. In PvP that push back is situational and that’s why some build in some map use the shield.

There is a person who posted this in relation to his post, which I think sums up pretty well his video. He was answering to people saying the video was about necro vs warrior, or zerker being bad.

That wasn’t the point of the video, it’s about how this meta of 3 classes 5 professions designed to carry ice bows to a boss and four ice bows to kill the boss in 5 seconds 20 seconds renders any most dps and defensive measurement pointless since the ice bows do so much more damage then any player could hope to achieve.

I agree, but here some fix. The under 10 seconds boss kill isn’t a meta or icebow problem. It’s a underlevel dungoen and bad scaling problem.

This break my heart. Nemesis like always have some super important points that everybody should talk about, but buried it in hyperbole, misdirection and lie.

The bad
1) He talk about meta by saying as : Only half the profession are worth something, one build for each and absolutely everybody should run Beserker. But in reality 5 out 8 profession are meta and 2 more profession are consider great. Each profession have different build (even if meta battle is a little behind on that), with some variation depending a the situation and Sinister is now part of several great build.
2) He put the blame on Icebow, but DnT never include Icebow in their DPS rotation of 30second. So the ranking of DPS isn’t affected by what he talk about in half of his video. The necromancer still have less DPS than other profession even if the Icebow would be completely removed.
3) He talk about the meta as only DPS. I most be playing meta wrong because I have a ton of support in my build. Yes DPS is a main focus, but support is also super important in meta.
4) He talk like everybody focus on buff and he’s the only one that think that Vulnerability is important. The focus on vulnerability is important, almost every single meta build have take a trait, skill or weapon to participate in the Vulnerability.
5) Meta is such a problem that when he want to show up how it is rampant, he can only show us that 34% of the LFG ask for Meta, while the 66% remaining LFG don’t ask for it. And notice how the only LFG that stay up as he refresh are meta LFG that don’t fill up, while the rest quickly fill up.

Good
1) DnT DPS number are good to rank the profession in absolute. But nobody does these numbers and actual numbers like he did are far more important. This game really need a dps meter (that only you can see, so we don’t have a witch hunt with it) so that people really get how much less dps they do than the number DnT put.
2) Pre buff never make sense to me unless you can’t attack the boss right away.
3) The Line attack from Icebow is pretty much an exploit. But not that many people are doing it. Not a big deal IMO.
4) Yes try hards are a real problem with the game. And the way DnT and Metabattle present thing, they are partially at fault here.
5) Necromancer isn’t too bad. He have the lowest dps on all 8, but it’s not as bad as people think, and Icebow make that difference even lower. Unfortunately, the current content don’t push toward the strength of the Necromancer. No need for weakness, boon stripping or condi transfer much right now. So the Necro is limited in term of group support for the current content.
6) The Icebow is a bit too strong. It’s like a small Area Meteor Shower that everybody can use at the same time. He should be strong, but not as strong as it is right now.

Ya me and my friend though about that. But I don’t think you can select which item you wanna buy. They gonna need to buy all the bags until you reach the 250 gold one.

Of course there will be items in the TP that nobody sell, but then the F2P will have to get some of those. Not a pratical way of doing thing.

Or maybe I’m wrong and you can chose to buy the item at 250 gold even if the same item can be bought a lower price.

Don’t use staff. Staff is just bad in PvE fight. It’s an open world lootstick and a nice WvW/sPvP weapons.

Sword is not in a great place right now in PvE, but it’s not a big deal. The problem is that it fit the same role as Mace. They are both usually use as secondary weapon to a GS or Hammer. They isn’t much advantage to take both Sword and Mace. But hey, not a big deal you could use a Sword and Mace build. Just won’t that efficient.

Shield is completely useless. Focus or Torch are thousands times better.

Zeal/Radiance/Virtue would be my choice for the trait line.

For gear, Zerker or Sinister would be both good. You’ll just have to swap some trait.

Can you please stop using reputation instead of mastery. You just look silly now.

A mastery implies that you advance in a task by doing the very same. Traditional mastery systems include crafting, as you process through crafting levels by – wait for it – crafting.

If we talk about masteries, let’s say gliding and mushroom jumping, you should advance in these masteries by – wait for it – using your glider and jumping on mushrooms. You master stuff by doing it.

But

You are not mastering “Masteries” in GW2:HoT by doing them. You gain xp on a chosen xp-bar, let’s say gliding. You will never have to even touch the glider, you can just level the whole thing by killing boars.

There is no mastering involved, as even if you are the crappiest glider in the whole Maguuma jungle, as long as you earned enough xp by doing random stuff, you still have “mastered” it somehow. It’s a bit like buying a title, like Ph. D. for money and claim that you are smart.

This on the other hand, is how all reputation systems work. The difference is that you are not doing the task you want to improve, but doing stuff for the “task” to improve your rank.

So in the end, the “masteries” in HoT are simply (mis)labeled reputations. Like we say “professions” instead of “classes” or “boons” instead of “buffs” or “conditions” instead of “debuffs”… ANet loves to name stuff differently, for whatever reason…

On the WoW wiki ‘’You can gain or lose favor, otherwise known as reputation, with many of the several different factions in Azeroth by completing certain quests or killing certain creatures (mostly bosses and mobs). Doing so will usually unlock special rewards or new quests to accomplish.’’

Now compare that to mastery in GW2.
1) You can gain, but not lose mastery
2) There is no factions. 3 of the 7 mastery track have something to do with tribes or faction, but that’s not the main focus.
3) I don’t need to complete quest or kill specific stuff to gain mastery to a specific hylek tribe. I can’t kill some hylek and lose mastery for that tribe.
4) It won’t unlock special quest, but it will give you access to some vendor. But what unlock access to some reward? There is 39 levels of mastery. How many unlock some reward from tribes? 6. So the main focus of reputation is represented for 6/39 or 15% of the mastery system.

Is there some link to reputation? Yes, but it’s very small portion of the mastery and don’t really work the same way.

Laurels: Items to avoid buying?

1) If possible don’t buy rings and accessories with laurel. Easier to get rings from Fractals and Earings from commendations
2) Don’t buy Amulet from the normal vendor use the WvW vendor to save some laurels
3) You can transfer laurel into gold. The best way to do that is with Heavy Crafting Bags. Each laurel transfer that way will give you around 1 gold. Each a list of other item that give or save you gold. They are all not worth it compare to the bags.
- Mystic Binding Agenet : 25 silver per laurel
- Any gear of box : between 60 and 10 silver per laurel
- Unindentified dye : 25 silver per laurel
- All other crafting bags except the heavy : At best it’s 60 silver per laurel
- Letter of Influence : 25 silver per laurel
4) Sickle and Booster can be nice to have, but there is better option than those.
5) Obsidian shards are super easy to get both with Karma and in SW.

You will be able to do everything you do right now. But you won’t have access to the new content. Raids, the new maps, the elite specialisation, LS3, etc.

What I’m not sure is thing like Fractals. Will you be able to reach level 100 or you will be stuck at level 50 I have no idea.

So we all know that Anet want to include more build into raids. Will they achieve that? Probably. Will they achieve more gear diversity? A bit more doubtful, but they could. Hard enough content will make it very difficult for normal players to survive in zerker. But if getting gear a bit more tanky is easy, getting gear with a bit more healing power is another story.

We have a nice Power/Precision/Healing Power gear, which won’t sacrifice all your dps for some healing power, but it’s super expansive to craft your armor, and not really available for trinket.

Apostate have Condition/Toughness/Healing Power which isn’t too bad since condition damage will do most of the job, so you won’t be crucifying your damage too much on a condition build. But again, you can get ascended stuff with those stats.

Even better would be a Condition Damage/Precision/Healing power gear. Rabid only have a 5-10% dps drop compare to sinister. Making this gear the ultimate DPS/Healer hybrid.

A Healing Power/ Power /Precision or Healing Power/ Condition/ Precision would also be some good option if you want to emphasis a bit more on the healer side.

If anet want to bring a bit more healing into the game with raids. They should gave use some decent gear option for that. I don’t want to bring a clerics guardian that do as much damage as a wet noodle in a raid.

I was thinking about something similar for raids. I don’t know if that will be useful at all to be honest and maybe we’ll just modify the current meta. Anyway it’s totally useless for Dungeon. It can be decent in fractal 50 if the rest of the team go full DPS. Won’t be the most optimal way by far, but it give you a smooth run. But it’s more a guild group thing.

Anyway here still some of my opinion.

- Valor is pointless. You gain almost no support from that, you only gain self survivability. Are you supporting your mates or you just want some comfort zone to not dodge?

- Glacial hearts give a good burst capability, but not much dps. You better off with Absolute Resolution. This give you more support and surviability so you can remove that Valor line

- Empowering might is a decent trait, but it only give 5 perma might in the best situation. In most situation you should have perma 25 stack of might anyway. So I would take Pure of Heart instead and only take Empowering Might when you don’t have a party that give you max might.

- Pure of Voice. I would prefer Writ of Persistence over this one. You have a limited amount of shouts and condition ain’t that big of a deal in most PvE. Pure of Voice could still be useful in some specific fight.

- To replace Valor i would choose either Radiance of Zeal. Zeal obviously give you more damage, but Radiance is still decent in that department while giving you the F1 blind with is a powerful defense against group of mobs.

- For weapon and skills you have good choice.

- For you gear. Cleric will be useless in dungeon. 100% useless. In fractals, it will have some usefulness in some specific fight, but even there it’s stretching it. Maybe in raid it could have a role, but for now not really.

Your best choice would probably to have a zerker armor and swap between Zerker and Cleric trinkets depending on the situation. For your runes you would be better off with Rune of the Monk. But of course Scholar or Flame Legion would be far superior choice.

?? I don’t see it at all. In which part of the game? In PvE, Dragon Hunter and Beserker won’t be meta for sure. Maybe a good build, but not meta. For herald, I don’t know enough about the profession as a whole to be sure, but the only strength vs guardian is the perma protection. The Herald can do that more easily than the guardian, even if both can achieve it. But still, Herald don’t have aegis or much reflection, which are the two biggest strength of the guardian in PvE. So no I don’t see Guardian being push out of the meta by any of those in PvE.

For PvP, it’s a bit soon for that. I don’t see beserker or Dragon Hunter replacing Bunker Guardian. Maybe Herald maybe, I don’t know. I would see it more as a brawler than a Bunker. I could see some of them becoming meta in PvP, but that doesn’t mean that they would replace a guardian. Guardian build would still be as efficient, they would just add more option.

Pretty much any profession can ’’tank’’. Some will be better at it than other, but overall they won’t be that efficient at the content itself. You can survive way more with active defense, while keeping your DPS.

Blind, Aegis, Reflection, Protection, etc. That’s what keep you alive in this game. Not toughness, vitality, healing. But with the raids, Anet seem to want to give more role to those things. Don’t know if they will succeed.

Pretty much all profession are melee in GW2 dungeon. Even those with ranged weapons (Engineer and Elementalist), they pretty much stay in melee range for a better dps and better support between the party (sharing buff, rezzing, etc).

You should play melee as a ranger in dungeon. If you can’t, then you need to practice. But that doesn’t mean that you can just sit there and hit all the attacks. You need to dodge or block them.

Ranger as a profession in PvE is good since september 2014. It have decent dps (4th last time I checked) and some support. Unfortunately, it have the same role as Warrior, which is buff the party (Spotter and Frost Spirit), but it does it less well than Warrior. So it’s not a meta build, and almost no record run will be done with Ranger. It’s still a powerful profession for dungeon, especially in pugs.

But it still suffer from a lot of hate because it was so bad for so long and that it still have some issue. A bad warrior won’t hurt the team much, but a bad ranger will. For exemple Longbow 4 will push a foe outside of range or the pet will attract agro, etc. So bad ranger make people angry, bad warrior not as much. That’s why there is still a hate toward ranger even today. Even if it’s getting smaller and smaller over time since september 2014.

its not an anti social thing, its just not as easy for everyone. my guild an i are friends from long ago. we have sporadic schedules. we have husbands, wives, kids. we don’t have time to guarantee we’ll be on every X day for X hours. we aren’t going to fill out some survey to prove we play and we don’t want to break up our guild cause we enjoy playin together an have been for years

its tough to get people to join a guild like ours. say, hey we play almost every night, but we can’t promise it, sometimes we are out for the whole weekend due to family/vacations/misc. we don’t use teamspeak, cause we just roll for an hour or 2 and can get by w/ chat usu. i pvp, but the others don’t, so we can’t form a full team.

so, its not that we don’t want to play w/ others, its just tough

It’s not like you are unique in that situation. You are just in the same situation than 99% of all the gw2 community. We all have work/school, most of us have friends, family, etc. When I’m online I play with the people that are online and I fill up the remaining spot with pugs.

Of course the smaller your guild the harder it is to get more people. When I first started the game I was in a game with just my friend, but too often I was alone or only 1 or 2 were online. So I got into a new guild and my friends joined me. When they were online I played with them, but I had other people to play with then they weren’t. We made some friend in this new guild and more than ever we usually had a full party of our guild. Then we merged with another guild to form a bigger guild. Now I always have people to do stuff and I made even more friends. I still mostly play with my IRL friend of the initial guild. We always play together and other people in the guild fill up the remaining spot.

I never really understood people that don’t like to join bigger guild because of their identity of whatever. I didn’t lost my identity, I’m still playing with my IRL friends. I just have a bigger pool of people to play with me, have access to more content and have some nice discussion in the guild chat.

You don’t need to buff healing power. It’s already very powerful since you can make a unkillable healer right now in the game. It’s the content design that make healer not so good right now.

We have a game with slow powerful attacks and a good amount of active defence that need no investment in gear. We just don’t need the heals.

Now if they add more small attacks that can’t be all blocks and make it challenging enough so that all our active support isn’t enough then you gonna start to see more ’’healer’’ to keep the team alive in addition to all the active defense. Not sure if that’s a great idea, but it would work.

Just buffing healing won’t make it more appealing if you can still do the job just fine with active defense while keeping your dps.
