I wasn’t condescending. I was just surprised since I never heard of anyone doing it before. It sounds like the extra gold you make from it is a tax on your wrist health. =P
True
That’s one of the reason I don’t do it, even if that would be a better choice.
I don’t know what game most of you have been playing since the most recent balance update, but even without the reaper spec, necro is already a viable class to pick over most classes.
Viable? Ya. Good? Debatable. It does a more than enough job in decent hand, but it’s not better than most profession. I’ll take a good necro anytime over a bad anything else. But I prefer a good player on another profession. It’s a fact that Necro have high burst, low DPS. It’s a fact that Necro support isn’t as good as most other profession. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have support, can’t help and do almost no damage. But it’s a little behind. We are not against Necro, we want Necro to be good. But we are not delusional about it. Of course, some people take those information and go other the top and kick any necro going near their party, but hey. We can’t control everybody.
For people who say necro doesn’t do high enough damage, I challenge you to find another class that can crit anywhere from 5-7k on autoattack, yes i know it is a fairly slow attack animation but it also pierces, and with the mix of all the other DS focused traits, the damage more than makes up for the slow attack speed.
If you talk about damage coefficient per attack. DS make 1 coefficient, or 1.4 when at 600 range of less. Lightning Hammer does 0.97 and 1.5 on the third attack. Guardian mace third auto-attack does 1.4 and hammer does 0.8 on the two first auto-attack of the chain and the third does 2.5.
If you talk about strait damage per attack. Ele staff can do 10.9k damage per auto-attack. But to be honest DS auto attack on a necro can reach up to 12.6k damage with all buffs. The third auto-attack for a GS Guardian can reach 16.5k. The third auto-attack on a Mace Guardian does 18k while the same attakc on a Hammer will reach 30K. So ya. Challenge accepted and won. What do I win?
Dagger auto chain is one of the fastest attack chains in the game with a high damage output since it cleaves.
Necro Dagger auto attack dps equal 12k in the best situation. Thief dagger auto-attack reach 15.5k dps. Lighting Whip for a D/F ELementalist reach 14k dps. Guardian Mace auto-attack reach 12.8k dps. Necro dagger have a good auto-attack. That doesn’t make it the best or strong enough to put the overal dps of the necro out of the bottom of the list.
Axe 2 crits for about 10-12k every 8 seconds if you know how to set up vuln stacks properly.
Axe 2 can do 25k full buffs on a 8sec CD. And? Lava Front can do 41k dmg each 4.8 sec and Backstab can do up to 34k each 3-4sec. Again all with full buffs.
Wells tick for high aoe damage if used before going into DS… and last but not least, you have 23 seconds of critting for 10-12k on auto attacks from lich every 150 seconds if you trait it right.
Lich can reach up to 19k damage on their auto-attack with full buffs. That’s 17k dps, making it the highest dps auto-attack in the game I think. Everybody know that Lich form is a beast. Nemesis in all his non sense during the last video I saw of his said at least one good thing. A necromancer using Icebow, wells and Lich form will have a better burst than most other profession (maybe exlcluding Elementalist, but i’m not sure). But 150second is super long and outside of Lich Form, the dps of a necro is still lacking behind.
… so please tell me again how necro can be seen as a low damage spec.
Necro is a low damage spec. Actually no. Necro is a low DPS spec. It have one of the best burst damage, but the longer the fight, the lower their dps will be and in fight wihtout Lich Form they will be behind everybody else. And with a CD of 150, you will do more fight without than with Lich Form.
Also just because you have players who play your so called meta builds, does not mean your chance for a successful completion is 100%. I can’t even count the number of times the “zerk meta only” stack focused groups have failed in dungeons or fractals because they don’t know how to do anything else with their class besides stand in a corner and spam buttons. I would take a skilled necro over those brain-dead elitists anyday. To answer your question OP, yes reaper will be up there in the meta builds, especially for things like raids where self sustain and party support will be more important than standing in a corner and spamming buttons.
I said it at the beginning of this post and I’ll say it again. Me too i’ll take a good necro over a bad anything else. A necro can do more than the job and more. 90% of the time with a good necro you will not even notice the difference in speed in the dungeon. To me there would be only 2 reasons to exclude a Necro from a run. I’m doing a record run (pratice for it) or the necro is just bad/run a bad build.
But that said. It doesn’t change the fact that Necro lack in both dps and support compare to other profession. And that players have the right to exclude them if they want. Even if I personally find that stupid in pug run.
1) Nobody got a refund because the game went F2P.
2) As a general consumer law, you can get a refund if you bought some type of consumer item not so long ago. So ya probably that some people that bougth the game asked for a refund, lost their account, got their money and tried the F2P version.
3) The only ’’special’’ refund ofter that Anet did. And by special I mean that it wasn’t mandatory by law. Was for people that bought the core game during the first month before the announcement of HoT pre-order and that had pre-order the xpac.
4) F2P account are very limited. They can’t use the TP, can whisper unless they are mutal friends in-game, they have limited access to other chat, they don’t have login reward, etc. F2P account is really a permanent trial version of the game. They don’t really affect the remaining of the population. It’s just there is let new player try the game and see if they gonna buy HoT.
not sure how i feel about being an incomplete class but at least game is worth playing even without expansion.
Well you won’t be playing incomplete class. Specialisation are not more powerful than the core profession and from what we saw, most of them won’t make it into any meta.
I paid the expansion and I know I won’t be playing Tempest and Dragonhunter on my two main character in any mode. I migth be playing Daredevil in sPvP with my thief, but I’m not sure if i’ll stick with it in the long run.
By that logic Necromancers should have the highest dps, given that they bring almost nothing to party other than damage. But yet we get left with one of the lowest pve damage outputs in the game.
They do have pretty wicked damage output. The issue in question isn’t a flaw in the class. The issue is condition based damage needs a certain amount of wind up time to get full value and stuff in PvE just dies too quickly for that to happen. However, the redesign of the condition stack limits has changed that a lot when it comes to champions and legendaries that live long enough for that wind up to occur. It’s an out dated sentiment in that regard.[/quote]
What? Nobody talked about condition.
Anyway, pretty wicked damage output? They have good single target burst (Lich and DS) which in combinaison with personnal might stakcing make them good in sPvP and instant AoE Burst (Wells) which make them good in WvW. But they don’t have wicked damage output for PvE. It’s actually pretty weak (except if you can burst with Lich, then it’s a good burst each 180 sec).
They can all look kitten. But the cultural heavy armor for Human, Char and Asura are all kitten.
My Guardian is a char and I love him, but otherwise my second choice would be Asura. The Cultural heavy in blue is just so freaking cool.
Wait you use your tokens to buy potions?
what.
Well it’s not a bad idea actually.
Buying rare and salvaging them (Ectos + mats) will result on average on 1 to 1.5 silver of profit per token.
Buying exotic and salvaging them (Insignia + Ectos + mats) will result on average on 80 copper to 1 silver of profit
Selling Dungeon potions will result on between 1 and 2.5 silver of profit per token depending on which potion.
Right now CoF and TA are better with respectively Rare and Exotic salvaging. But for the remaining dungeon, you are better off using your token to get potion and sell them.
Of course, the problem is that you gonna have to sell a lot of them and it could take a long time. That’s why I usually prefer to salvage rare and exo myself. But buying your own potion with Tokens is the smartest thing to do (outside of CoF and TA in the moment).
If you can craft some high price weapon like Mjölnir or Volcanus then each token can give you up to 20 silver per token. But it also need a lot of gold and other currency and most people won’t put 10k of token into those lol.
And finally, if you are luck enough to get some of the good dungoen recipe, you can get up to 4 silver per tokens, but most people don’t have any, or have a bad one that give less than 1 silver.
Don’t be condescend to other if you didn’t do the math yourself
Memory is short. A couple months ago we had a HUGE reworking of our trait into specialisation. So when you ask ‘’Do i get stucked with my old traits forever and no innovation?’’ It seem a bit dramatic since they changed your old traits and gave us innovation not so long ago.
Yes some Specialisation seem not that good, but over time this list is more and more limited in my mind. My main is a guardian so i’m a bit disapointed, but Daredevil will be awesome when they fix the feeling of the dodges, i’m still super hype about the reaper, Bezerker seem funny to play, herald look so good, etc.
And like Vayne said, there is a lot more to HoT than specialisation.
1. Weakness is very sporadic in its defense. You will take significantly less damage overtime if you replace necro with a profession with high protection sharing uptime. Use a guardian or ele to improve group performance.
2. Necro’s corruptions have 40-50s CD’s, making them very poor for 10s boon strips. You will be significantly better off with a profession that can strip boons more reliably. Replace the necro with a thief or mesmer for significantly more consistent boon striping, plus stealth, boon sharing, and higher damage.
If those are the best Anet can do then necro will be even less wanted than now since mesmer, thief, guard, and ele will take even higher priority plus do more damage.
1) Did you read? ‘’ IF ’’ mobs have precision. I know that right now weakness is not a good support condition, that’s exactly what I said. But that’s because mobs can’t crits on you so you remove 50% of their damage 50% of the time, which is pretty bad. But if they have critical damage you could remove 70/80/90% of their damage 50% of the time. If you also add endurance with mobs that can dodge, then up weakness uptime will increase drastically the DPS of your group since the mobs won’t be able to dodge as much of your burst.
2) There is only 4 professions that can rip/corrupt boons.
-Engineer can do it with mines. They can remove one each 17sec and another one each 18sec. Not that effective if the boss have several boons and that utility isn’t that powerful anyway.
- Thief on a Sword/Dagger setup can do it almost constantly since it only cost 1 initiative. But it’s a poor weapon setup for PvE and If the boons return each 10 second, it mean that the thief will have to stay on the weapon setup for the whole fight. Not efficient, but plausible. It can also steal, but that’s 2 boons each 25second. It’s good, but not enough.
- Mesmer is pretty good at ripping boons. They can rip one boons per shatter, but usually PvE Mesmer are phantams, not shatter so not that useful. Arcane Thievery steal 3 boons on a 36 seconds CD (if traited). Null field can rip all boons on a 32sec CD. And of course the Sword auto-attack, which remove one boon each 2.5 second. There is also mind stab from GS and Phantasmal Disenchenter, but those decrease the Mesmer dps by a lot. Overall Mesmer is pretty good at boon ripping.
- Necromancer is also pretty good at that. Focus can remove 3 boons each 16 sec (traited). In lich form you can rip 9 boons (with the CD of the lich it’s pretty much a one time thing). Corrupt boons take 5 boons each 40sec and Well of Corruption take 6 boons each 32 sec (traited). Finally, a trait allow DS skill 2 to remove 2 boons (on a 6sec CD if on a Reaper). There is also 2 boons per signet when traited and skill #3 on Axe main hand, but both will probably won’t be part of any good PvE build.
In the end, with a decent PvE build Mesmer can rip around 0.5 and 0.75 Boons per second, while Necromancer between 0.5 and 0.85 Boons per second. This can change with the xpac so the different doesn’t really mean anything, they are both equally good at rip/corrupt boons.
Not saying that Necro will be the absolute best profession in PvE if anet do those two thing. But it will improve it by A LOT by giving him suppor capability that count in PvE.
Do I need to farm all the heropoints 9x now?

You didn’t understood Anet post correctly Nikked.
‘’Old skill points in excess of those earned by leveling and skill challenges will be converted into crafting materials for the Mystic Forge. Items and activities that were previously repeatable sources of skill points will now also provide that same crafting material.’’
So old skill point from leveling and skill challenges was transformed into Hero points. You get hero point from levelling and hero challenge just like you had skill points from leveling and skill challenges.
The remaining skill points. Meaning the skill points you received from level up AFTER level 80 and all those scrolls of knowledge, etc. Were transformed into spirit shards which is the crafting material.
As always, here’s the solution to the “problem”. Every build, gear set, and whatever is viable in this game.
Your picture is perfect and its why I say anyone who doesn’t follow that reasoning is a troll. There is hundreds of people on each side that will join your type of run if you start the group. In this game there is never any reason to force your playstyle on someone else. If you do, then you are a troll and should not be surprised when you get kicked from a group and you also shouldn’t be running to forums to cry about said kicking.
100% True. The only point I concede to the ’’other’’ side is that the LFG isn’t that good. They could improve it a lot more to make it easier. How many people on both side didn’t read the LFG and joined to impose their view. And TBH I think that ’’our’’ (speed run/meta) side do it more often.
A better LFG would help a lot, even if it wound’t fix everything because we can’t fix people who join wrong group or group that doesn’t put the right description.
bank express, Golems, trading post express, merchant express, tomes of knowledge, All types of dyes and kits, transmutation charges, black lion ticket scraps, tonics, non temporary gathering tools and boosters.
Tome of Knowledge : They never removed a way to get them. They only added new ways to get them over time.
Dyes : You are right. Before we could drop unindentified dye and now we can’t. Tbh I prefer the way it’s working now since dyes are account wide. Still, it was alway nice to drop one of those, so they could have kept it and limit other source of unindentified dye.
Tonics : They were always and are still are special reward during special events. There is no event in the last 8months because of the incoming xpac so there is no new tonics. I don’t see how this is related.
non temporary gathering tools : What?? Are you saying that you could drop an unlimited gathering tools before? Never saw that. Or maybe you are refering to something else. Never hear of non temporary gathering tools either. Are you sure you have the right name?
Transmutation charge or transmutation stone before always dropped the same way they do today. Map completion, daily rewards or gem store. Where were they used to drop that Anet removed?
Black Lion ticket Scrap : They were always from black lion chest, even were they were special unique ticket before.
The rest are all similar type of item and them too continue to drop the same way they used to.
Thank you. Finally someone who gets it! I ’m begining to hate posting here. No matter how valid a point you make 10 white knight trolls jump on the post to try and discredit it.
The game is not fun without drops and that is the way it is.
Grow a ticker skin dude and ignore the trolls because they will be everywhere in your internet life. Get used to it and just continue to exchange with the people that just disagree with you. And tbh, I didn’t see much trolls in that thread, mostly just people that disagree with you.
In the end of the day you are right, but we are also right. GW2 reward isn’t base on drop, but on gold. If you want drops there is plenty of game like that and it’s fine. I prefer looking at my gold per hour and then buy what I want and it’s also fine.
its been about a year since the topic of revising berserker meta was made and as far as ive seen i havent seen the topic get really anywhere other than 16 pages within said year.
Aside from having punishing AI with specific skillsets in HoT, whats to be done about non expansion content being bulldozed too kitten fast ? What happened to the gw2 BETA AI that would dodge etc?are we catering to the newer players to only just run whats BEST?! or are we going to still throw the “play how you want and get loved for it” shenanigans ?
Dungeons are officially abandoned. Fractal and Raids are the instanced content where Anet will focus their efforts.
They continuously balanced the game over the years. Maybe not fast enough IMO, but still. The big spec update did a great job at that with profession like Ranger and Engineer being boosted, and the DPS range between different profession being reduced a bit. And of course condition build started to be a thing for some profession. Overall, there is a lot more build that are view a good in PvE.
That said, a lot of thing can still be done like balancing Burn vs Bleeding to allow profession that focus more on bleeding condition to be more on part with Direct damage or Burning Condition build.
But in the end, we’ll need to see what will they do with Fractal and Raids. Let’s keep in mind that the numbers of people able to full meta/melee everything in fractal 50 is not that high. A lot of people use alternative build, range or use exploit against some of the hardest bosses in fractal 50 (Mosman, Archdiviner, etc). With Fractal 100 and Raids that are suppose to be even harder. I pretty confident that alternative build will become more popular.
To be clear. I’m not saying that Zerker meta won’t be the most efficient way to play the game. But it will be harder to master those (expecially during the 6 months/1 year of the new content), and that less people will be able to play it efficiently.
If the majority of people would be better with a build with more defensive capability, then more people will advocate them on the forum and slowly the mind set of the community will change over time to be more accepting of other build that are maybe less efficient, but allow the majority of players to complete the new content more comfortably.
Guys stop responding to him. Obvious troll is Obvious. He copy pasted this tread and changed it a little in the Warrior forum.
IMO, Reaper will improve the position of Necro in PvE. The damage will be increase that’s for sure. At which level? That we’ll have to test it out at the expansion. My guess is that it won’t be at the bottom like right now and will be more on par with the other profession.
That said, I doudt that would make Necro a meta build. Two thing can give you a place on the meta. Group Support (Mesmer, Thief, Guardian), or High DPS (Elementalist). Reaper won’t have a dps comparable to Engineer and Elementalist and for now don’t have enough support to compete with the other meta profession.
IMO it will be in a similar situation than ranger is now. Still some hate because of minions and fear, but overall a decent profession that will do the job with decent dps and some nice tools.
What could change that is if the new PvE content ask for different form of support. 2 mains things.
1) Mobs have precision and can dodge. Suddently weakness go from a decent condition to a powerful support condition that necro have a lot of.
2) Mobs have powerful boons that you can rip of corrupt. Think about it. If bosses get 10s of protection each 10s. Only the necro could remove it on a regular basis. So having a necro would boost your party dps by around 33%, putting necro very high on the support profession.
They talked about giving precision to mobs in the fractal post, but sadly other than that I’m pessimist that Anet will use those game mechanics in PvE.
Ok you have some misunderstanding.
1) Influence is a useless currency for big guild (which is usually the type of guild that ask for 100% Rep). My guild for exemple have everything unlocked for a long time and we can’t spend our influence as fast as we get it even if we don’t have a 100% Rep. Influence is a non issue in that situation.
2) Passively representing give you some influence, but only a small amount compare to influence you gain from playing together. The first 50 players to connect will give 350 influence to the guild just by connecting that day. To gain another 350 influence from connection, you will need 350 additional players to connect. Same with activities. If everybody is doing stuff on their own in the guild, you receive just a small amount. If people join up? You receive 10 times more infuence. So a guild of 50 ppl that play together but don’t alway rep will get more influence than a guild of 500 people all playing alone with 100% Repping.
I think you overthink it. It’s like the LFG. There is different guild, made by different people for different players.
There is people that don’t see the reason why to rep other guild and want to play with one big guild. But there is plenty of guild that reach the 500 limit. If they want a more active guild after that, they need to kick player that are not as active as they would like to. Don’t worry about those guild man. Those kind of guild are alway near the 500 limit. For each person that quit because of the 100% policy they will receive 1 or 2 demand to join. That’s their goal. Getting people that want the same thing together.
If you don’t want 100% rep there is PLENTY of guild that don’t have that, full of people that don’t like it either.
But why try to change the system to eliminate all form of 100% Rep? There is people that like that system and there is plenty of place for all those different type of guild.
Live and let live.
What changes to the other heal would have to be made before you would want to use them?
I don’t think there is change to be done with them that would change that. The block on shelter is just so pratical.
Signet of Resolve is already super powerful. Now you can even have the trait that improve Signet in the meta and with that the Signet is 67% stronger in healing than the Shelter. But that doesn’t change the fact that shelter have a block
Receive the light is also a strong heal. High support, combine that with shout trait/runes and you have a insane support machine. But that doesn’t change the fact that shelter have a block
The only healing skill that could use a rework would be Litany of Wrath. It’s a good healing skill, but a situational one. It’s never a good idea to have a situational healing skill, since it’s so important to your survival. That said, it’s a decent heal with Monk Focus. But that doesn’t change the fact that shelter have a block
just bought the game and i was reading in the pvp forums and the class forums and basically discovering my preferred class in most mmos is completely crap… should i just refund the game? seems kind of pointless to play if the class i want to play is garbage
There is weird stuff in the forums before an update/xpac. You gonna get used to it if you stick to the forums long enough
Right now, people are saying that Revenant is a better at everything, guardian is doom, thief is useless, bla bla bla.
Thief was less improved in term of dps than most other profession in the spec update a couple months back. They also got their acrobatic line nerfed in preparation for the Daredevil. So of course they are less powerful than they used to be. At the same time Mesmer received a couple of buff and kind of fill the same role in PvP and Engineer received also a couple of buff and kind of fill the same role as thief in PvE.
So when people complain, they are kind of right. But that said, thief is still use in most record dungeon run in PvE and there is a thief in the majority of all ELS team in PvP. Yes thief is less good than before, but it tell you something when some of the best players in both PvE and PvP still use them.

At this point its unrealistic to expect a 4th beta.
Especially since last month they announced that BWE 3 will be the last one.

You seem to think that they will go in details. From my understanding Collins seem to want us to experience most of that stuff directly in the xpac and want to spoil as little as possible. In that situation we could theorize that they didn’t announced everything they wanted to show us about
3. Guild Hall leveling Info
6. Info on legendary armor
7. Info on raid rewards
8. Info on raids in general
For the remaining
1. Legendary weapon blog
2. Legendary weapon Twitch presentation
They could show that at Twitchcon or just presenting us with 1 Legendary.
4. Druid presentation
9. Launch trailer (tomorrow!)
That we already know it will be at twitchcon
5. BWE 3+4
There won’t be any BWE 4. They will probably announce the BWE 3 at twitchcon for the week end after. That way they still have 3 weeks to work based on the feedback.
10. Specialization runes/sigils
I don’t think they will talk about that.
Elementalist is Top 1 right now. It’s the best profession in PvE and sPvP and one of the best in WvW.
1) I’ll answer as a guild leader myself. The appeal of larger guild is to have people online. Enough people that you will find people to do stuff with you. When someone is not representing, they don’t see the guild chat, so they can’t participate in the activities. Like you said yourself, you have around 400 people but only 30-40 people are online at the same time. That is true from most guild. My guild is around 460-480 and the vast majority were online in the last 2 weeks. Even there, we usually have between 40-60 people online. Since we are not 100% Rep, we always have between 5 and 5 people not representing. So even tho I’m working hard everyday to keep people active, recruting, etc We still end up with a pool of 35-45 people online at the same time that can participate in activities together. 35-45 people seem like a lot, but with people that already did their dungeon, fractal, etc, other people already doing stuff, some people afk, other not reading their guild chat, you have rarely enough people to fill out all your parties. That’s the main goal of a 100% Rep for bigger guild. They want active people that will be present in the guild chat when they are online. I personnally, I don’t want to impose that in my guild, but I understand why some people want to impose it.
2) The game don’t encourage you to stay in one guild. They gave us tools and different players create different guild with different goal in mind.
3) There is nothing in the game that will change. What will your guild do with these new tools is totally up to them. One thing they could add is more stats on player in the guild. It can be hard to see the difference between someone that never represent the guild and someone that only switch from time to time. Some guild just want to weed out people that joined and never participated, and one of their only option is to 100% Rep. Additional information on that could help guild to kick people that never represent the guild and allow them to remove their 100% Rep policy.
4) It seem that 4 of your friends are stubborn. I’ll tell you what I did in the early months of the game. I had a small friends guild, but after a couple of months, a lot of them stopped playing. A couple were still there and were playing on a regular basis, but there was always a couple of hours per week where I was playing alone. I joined another guild and represented them instead. That didn’t stop me from playing with my friends the second they were online. They kept representing their guild, but when they were online I was on their communication program, in party with them, playing with them, just not in the same guild. In the end of the day, it doesn’t make any difference.
Is it worth sacrificing some ferocity for some toughness in higher level fractals?
I’ve been thinking of switching from zerker to knight armor (weapons and trinkets will remain zerker).
Opinions?
IMO, it’s never worth it. If you need more survivability, trait and skills will give you that far more efficiently than stats and they are easier to change from one situation to another.
I never heard of 2 sigils on a one-handed weapon.
As for the new runes. Yep, they probably gonna create a new bunch of new runes and maybe sigils for the expansion. Of course, there is the obvious runes for each elites spec and the revenant, but they also talked a lot about using the same skill type for several profession so that they synergize with runes and trait.
With the xpac, there will be 5 skill type that will be use by more than one Profession.
Physical, Signet, Shout, Trap and Well.
Signet have the Rune of Resistance (which could use a bit of love).
Shout have Rune of the Trooper (which is already excellent)
Trap have Rune of the Trapper (which is decent)
While Physical and Well don’t have any runes.
So we can be pretty sure that they will at least introduce 2 new runes for those two skill type. Hopefully, they will add more than that so we can have more choice.
(edited by Thaddeus.4891)
I have no idea of what you are talking OP.
- Rare : If you don’t like getting those, I’ll take them if you want. I can never have enough rare to salvage. I almost need so much ectos.
- Exotic : They drop regularly. Ya from time to time someone don’t get a drop in a week, but overall I usually get them on a regular basis. With PvP, dungeon and Fractal, I usually get between 2 and 10 exo per week.
- Ascended : I got two complete ascended armor from ascended chest, plus a couple of weapons. They drop a lot in PvP and Fractal. It’s very very rare that nobody in a group of 5 don’t drop a weapon/armor ascended chat in a Fractal 50.
Remember that GW2 reward is all about gold that you can use to get whatever you want. That way, you are not limited to a specific content to get the specific item you want. I prefer that way.
I dont see many Sylvari Necros.
Are there lesser played combos?I play a Sylvari Necro and I see a lot of them.
Me too I play a Sylvari Necro
1) I think the skill 2 isn’t the problem, but it would be nice to have that QoL. But what’s the most important is to give a purpose to Sword. Right now the only build that use it is Condi Build in PvP. And even there it’s less good than Mace in that role. They should rework it to specialise it as a condi weapon, fix the third auto-attack and rework the skill #3. But two of those think should have been done a long long time ago.
2) No. They should improve them for sure, and there is a couple of thread that talk different way to do that. Right now, their main problem is that their relatively long cooldown start after they die. So any Spirit Weapon build have huge portion of their fight without any of their spirit. I would be ok with changing one of the signet for a 25% speed passive. I never really found Signet of Judgment any good, that would be my candidate.
3) Forget about that. Dragonhunter is what it will be at the xpac. We are one month away from it they will not put much work into that particular specialisation for now. They will concentrate on the last few elites and other type of content. It’s just too late to rework completely the Dragonhunter. But I’m confident that they could improve him let’s say over the next 6 months after the expansion. I don’t like the Dragonhunter concept, but I’m sure they can make a Longbow Trap Dragonhunter work in PvP.

I like the optimism of 4-10 hours per toon to get 80-170 HP from maps you’ve never been to before..more realistic for non-rushers is a month or two of game time just spent doing HP per toon, repeat 20 times if you want to cover all your alts.
As for ‘play how you want’, that’s thoroughly flushed down the toilet now for wvw players, it’s become ‘grind like a Korean’.
It’s not optimistic, it’s what it took me. I have 8 characater with 150 pts remaining. I’ll do the remaining 20 if needed after the expansion.
If people have some problem, there is a gentlemen doing event for that and they are pretty much in the same time ratio as me. As a Guild Leader myself, I’ll take that idea to create a similar type of event for my guild.
Thanks for the info. I play a Ranger, also, what about jewlery (rings, etc) where do I get those? Knowing I got 7 gold and no crafting masteries.
Ascended Trinket are easy to get really.
Amulet : Buy with 20 Laurels and some Badge of Honor at the WvW vendor. You get Badge of Honor form achivement chest.
Accessories : If you can get into a guild and do guild missions, they won’t cost you that much. With guild missions, they are costly.
Rings : It’s raining Ascended Rings in fractal. If you link doing fractal, it won’t be long because you have too much of those. Outside of fractal it can be costly to get rings.
So ascended trinkets can be easy and cheap to get if you do the right type of content. If that content is not really an option for you, then you can go after the exotic version. It’s usually not worth crafting them so you are better off just buying them on the TP. Getting the Amulet, 2 rings and 2 Accessories that way should cost you around 15-20 gold. Another options, would be to buy rare version of the Trinkets, while you are working on Ascended. 1 Amulet + 2 Rings + 2 Accessories in rare will cost you around 8-10 gold on the TP.
For the back item. Take a look at Mawdrey. It’s a ascended back item that don’t cost that much, but can be long to craft. Since you have zero crafting profession, it may not be a good idea right now. If you like Fractal, you can do a fractal back item. You can do the exotic one, then upgrade him to ascended. Most other ascended back item are expensive.
Another option is to craft an Exotic Back Item. Each crafting profession have one of those. It’s actually a level 1 back item that you can upgrade 5 times to reach exotic level. So you can slowly level up your crafting profession at your rhythm and updgrade your back item at the same time. That back item is pretty cheap.
Take a look at gw2crafts.net You can level up cooking for to 400 for 4 gold and then craft the Cooking Exotic Back item for around 2 gold. So that back item is really cheap.

What we know?
1) It’s gonna be Hero Points for sure
2) It’s gonna cost between 80 and 170 HP. The minimum value come from the minimum possible compare to our current spec and skills. The maximum value come from datamining.
3) You don’t need to do world completion, just Hero Challenge. It’s gonna take between 4 and 10 hours for someone to unlock a Elite Specialisation on a character with zero Hero Point left. But since most people usually have some HP left after they unlocked everything else, it probably gonna take less time than that.
4) It’s gonna need to be done on all your characters if you want all Elites.
For a first set of exo armor, get yourself a nice Berserker set doesn’t matter what class/profession you play
Yes it depend. Sinister is also a good choice for Engineer and Ranger. And a decent choice for Guardian. For all those three profession, you can also take Rabid, which is a small dps lost compare to Sinister, but far more easy to get since he’s only starting to play.
Other than that, since OP is new. Bezerker (or Sinister for some profession) is view as the optimal gear for PvE. But, a lot of people will have a hard time surviving with that gear. You can mix up those armor with some more defensive ones as you get more experienced. The other option is to go full beserker, but to take more defensive traits instead. The advantage of the second method is that changing your trait later to a better build will cost you nothing.
Keep in mind OP that with the megaserver there is several situation where you gonna end up in a low population maps even if a lot of people are playing on that map.
- EOTM : This map is on a 4 hours match up. Usually, people fill up several maps right when the 4 hours starts. If you try to join later, there is a big chance that you will end up on the last map, the map with the less people on it. Sometime you are luck and enough people left the first few map that you can join on those instead, but the best way to get on a map with a lot of people is to join at the beginning of the 4 hours.
- Silverwaste : People tend to group up on maps with the LFG and full maps. So every time you enter Silverwaste by your own, you gonna end up on one of the not full maps, which is usually also a near empty map.
- Sparkly Fen at Teq : Around 15min before Teq, the maps are usually still near empty, but in the next 10mins a LOT of people will fill out a LOT of maps. Especially the Teq at reset time. 5min before, most map are fulls, so you usually start to end up on less good maps. At that point people start to use the LFG to make sure they have a good map. The goal here is to regroup the most people possible on the least number of map possible.
As a guild leader myself I can testify that GW2 doesn’t make our life easier when it come organizing stuff.
There is just not enough stuff to do in guild really.
- PvP is 5vs5
- Dungeon and fractal are in group of 5
- Hearts progression isn’t shared in a party so doing guild map completion will always go at the speed or the slowest members.
- Most World Boss are on a schedule and doing it with a guild won’t change anything.
- Guild Missions is becoming old repetitive content, too hard to small guild, but too easy for bigger guild and the reward is rapidly becoming not worth it after you bougth your ascended accessories and couple of unique reward.
There is very few type of content that is worth doing in a guild.
- WvW
- Triple Wurm, but you are better off with a specialized guild for that
- Temples or World Boss outside of the schedule
- Silverwaste can be done in guild, but doing it with a guild won’t bring you any advantage anymore.
So in the end, most guild activities must be though from start to end by the guild officer and it take time and effort.
The point is that on top of being propably the best heal in the game (even if just by 10%) it provides so much more utility. Like stated in the opening post you heal allies aswell, can amplify the healing with combos of which engi has plenty, gain regen, gain condition cleanse (!), gain a blast finisher for other utility combos, gain a knockback.
This is way too much if we stop being biased for a second.
Ranger and Elementalist also have plenty of combos and a least one water field. I don’t see that as important. It’ s a plus for the Healing turret for sure, but that’s not what it make it good.
Like I said. It’s a powerful heal, but it need you to do at least 3 actions. If you compare that to the Warrior healing signet which give you 362 hp/sec while doing zero action. You want Healing Turret to be higher than 362 hp/sec.
The healing turret give you 405hp/sec and the toolbelt give you an additional 37hp/sec for a total of 442 hp/sec. I would be ok to drop that to 400 hp/sec. The regen would stay the same on F1, healing turret and overcharging. This mean that that both placing and overcharging the turret would need to heal by 2140 instead of 2520 like right now.
I could agree with that, but not more than that. That’s a nerf of around 9%.
I don’t see the healing turret as overpowered
Placing the Turret, overcharging it and then pick it up will give you 6080 of heals (heal + regen) on a 15sec cooldown. This is about 405 hp/sec of heals.
Lets compare them to other profession
- warrior healing signet give 362 hp/sec.
- Elementalist traited Ether Renewal give 347 hp/sec
- Mesmer traited mantra of recovery give 393 hp/sec
- Necro traited Consume Condition need 6 conditions to reach 400 hp/sec
So overall, yes the Healing Turret is probably the best heal in the game, but not by much. It’s usually about 10-20% better than most heal. Yes, it would be ok to nerf it by maybe a 5-10%, but there is no reason to nerf it more. Remember that to reach that amount of hp/sec you need to place, overcharge and pick it up again. For me Healing Turret is ok, because even if it’s a powerful healing skill, it need you to be a minimum good with it. It’s a hard heal to master.
As for the other healing skill of the Engineer. Here what I think.
- Elixir H is a powerful heal in the right build. The problem is the randomness of it. They removed the randomness of the throw elixir s skill and they should do the same with Elixir H. The best option would be to give each time 2sec of Protection, 3s of regen and 3s of switfness. But they could do all regen or a mix of protection and regen.
- AED is actually pretty good. It give 415hp per second when you received a killing blow , not counting the damage you didn’t received. But why take it when Healing turret is just a bit less healing, but so much adaptable to different situation compare to AED. It doesn’t need much to be good.
- Med Kit is just terrible. 289 hp/sec for the F1 is the worst heal. You can reach that to 516 hp/second. But that’s when you stay on the med kit, healing yourself 505hp at the time. Here what I would do.
1) The med Blaster is horrible. It’s 112 hp/sec of healing if your allies have ALL the boons and you need to stay behind them pressing 1. The guardian and elementalist can do about the same, while they are actually playing. We don’t need an auto-attack on the med kit. Or at least, make it heal yourself too, so you can use it while running away like a D/D Cele Ele with LW and their Signet of Resto.
2) I would remove the heal from all skills 3 to 5 and make them proper specialised support skill. Focusing to condition removal, one weakness of the engineer. Why remove the heal? Because, it’s not a heal worth it in combat. It’s too small for too much cast time.
3) Now that skill 2-5 don’t heal and the skill 1 can heal yourself. You can make the F1 a proper healing skill. Make it heal you by 5 500. On a 17sec cooldown that’s 323 hp/sec. Lower than most other traited healing skill, but with the auto-attack healing you when you need it, it’s more around 400 hp/sec.
The goal here is to have a decent healing skill with the F1. The auto-attack when you need some more heal or when running away while not attacking the ennemy. And a couple of support that remove condition with skill 2-5.
…..you are mindlessly grinding, but the only difference is your not going anywhere =p
I never liked the work mindlessly in this context, it’s a matter of opinion.
But you are right that we are grinding. The difference is that in gw2 the vast majority of the grind is optional. Here I grind for what I want and not what I need. I’m not saying that it’s better or worst. It depend on each individual. Like trinity or not trinity, there is different player that want different thing and each group should have their game.
I get that some people like you want to progress. They want to work toward the objective of getting their character stronger, more kitten and able to complete more challenging content. And for those people, gw2 feel kind of flat and lacking. For them, GW2 lack a sense of purpose, they feel they are not going anywhere with the game and that they are grinding for nothing.
But then there are people like me. I want to progress my character, but don’t come tell me that the armor I spend several week to craft is obsolete and I need to craft a better one for the next expansion. Don’t tell me that I can’t play with my friend at the latest content because I took a 2 months break and I don’t have all the last gear. That break my sense of progress. To me that’s going anywhere. I don’t feel like i’m progressing, I just feel like doing the same thing over and over. Regaining my gear over and over again. I’ve done my armor already, now I want to do something else. I want to get plenty of minis, I want to gear up alts, I want to get new skins, I want to complete achievement. It feel that everything I do I permanent and every step I take is a progression toward a bigger and more complete account.
Both ways are good, both way are valid, but they each depend on the players. Different games for different gamers.
Thief is much more preferred in any fast run groups just because he supports and utilizes icebow better than the engi.
Berserker engie is weaker than Thief with ice bow, yes, but the difference isn’t noticeable to the human eye. A 9 second ice bow boss fight lasts 9.5 with berserker engie in place of thief, and thats being generous to the Thief. Whoop de doo.
I can’t wait for Ice Bow to be gone then we get to read all the threads about how useless Thief is as a class in PvE.
Thief is useless? Stealth is useless? high damage in single target is useless?
This was true pre specialization patch, but not anymore unfortunately. Thief DPS wasn’t improved as much as other profession. It’s not the highest single target dps anymore. It dropped by a lot, while the engineer got higher. Thief is still better than engineer for stealth/blind, but Engineer have enough for most current content with more dps and vulnerability.
Thief is still good, but the time when Thief was an obvious choice over Engineer isn’t there anymore.
For PvE, Bezerker is the most efficient choice, but Sinister is also great.
For PvP, it really depend on what build you want. You can see a couple of them here.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
Right now, there is three main build that generally view as the most popular/powerful.
- Bunker Guardian : You have high resistance and support to keep a point
- Burning Guardian : A bursty roaming in condition gear
- Meditation DPS Guardian : The direct damage version
For WvW, both burning Guardian and Medi DPS Guardian can be adapted for a Roaming role, while the Shout Guardian is a pillar of any Zerg group.
So different gear depending on what you want to do.
Bezerker, Sinister, Clerics, Soldier, Carrion, Rabid and Marauder are all different stats that will work well on different build.
I found out recently that an engineer only needs like 80% rotational efficiency to beat thief dps, you can kitten kitten up and still be the best choice for encounters where you want stealth.
Still, reaching 80% rotational efficiency is hard to get in a fight situation. You need to be a decent engineer to achieve that, while the Thief still have better access to stealth compare to the 20-25second CD for the Engineer and the Thief have better access to blind.
They are both equally good choice with their own strength and weakness. The specialisation update really closed the gap between several profession.
Yup, Some people probably got killed by a Mesmer or Thief and didn’t like it. L2P
Because children should go around hating gays, right? Not accepting them?
Maybe those “children” are the smart ones.
Since you need to have straight sex to get pregnant, the mere existence of children is anti-gay by definition.
So by the same definition the mere existence of children is anti-infertility I guess??
So wolf howl will drop a thief out of SR, what about a mesmer from MI?
Interrupt them. MI have such a long casting time of almost 2 seconds. You have the skill 5 on GS, the skill 4 on Longbow, taunt and fear. All of those would interrupt MI and they all have faster cast time than MI. But the wolf have a too long cast time to be efficient against MI, leaving you around 0.25 second to react, at that point you are better to swap to Eagle/Owl and use their taunt.
You get one if you had GW2 before the pre-order started and one if you bought the deluxe.
If you had the game and bought the standard you have one.
If you didn’t had the game and bought the deluxe you have one.
If you didn’t had the game and bought the standard you have none.
Here the distribution from the leaderboard for my guild. Just for some context, my guild is near 500 people and we kick everybody that wasn’t online in the last 3 months. We currently have maybe 30 people that never connected in the last 1 or 2 months. So we have mostly active players and we don’t have F2P players.
We got 1 player at 0% (1 AP)
We got 4 players at 20% (99 @ 135 AP)
We got 6 players at 30% (161 @ 243 AP)
We got 2 players at 40% (286 @ 347)
12 at 50% (428 @ 656 AP)
16 at 60% (715 @ 989 AP)
52 at 70% (993 @ 1553 AP)
around 90 at 80% (1573 @ 3014 AP)
The remaining 280 are at 90% (3073+ AP)
It’s fair to say that 30% of all players that bought the game quit it really quickly or never played it. Around 20% reached level 80 and then quit. The remaining 50% constitute the vast majority of active player.
It doesn’t really surprise me. I have around 10 games installed on my computer. I didn’t even touched half of them yet for several months, 2-3 other I played them for a couples of hours. I think it’s pretty much the same thing for every game.
The only I can see is Warrior Norn for the Reactor Fractal. With that you can do the heat room with ease.
Otherwise it’s all about the look
Yes, but I realized too late the thousands of exp I was earning doing world completion was going to complete and total waste, and I’m a customer who purchased HoT>
I picked it as something to work on while waiting for HoT, now I feel ripped off for doing it early, everything I do feeling like I’m wasting effort. And all it would take would be to get something, a spirit shard even, for my efforts.
You feeling ripped off is your own doing. They clearly said that experience past level 80 won’t give you anything at the specialisation update a couple months back, but it will give you something then the xpac will come online.
Anet did their job, you just had to read the official news.
I guess I’ve been on the forum for too long. I type Kitten more than no ; )
I find that funy
Dev never respond to that type of request, but I’m about 99,99% sure the won’t remove the achievement. Why would they?
Why 8 characters slots? You get 5 from the game and if you pre-order HoT you get 2 additional.
