How ugly armor skins are or aren’t is entirely depending on personal tastes. I personally rather like many of the medium skins, though I have no problem with diversification of armor style.

90% of medium players most likely agree with you.

Of course we all know the saying about stats on the internet.

Oh yes, I’m suddenly going to have VAST improvements to my frames-per-second and graphics level now that fireball has been reduced to chucking a lit charcoal briquette at an enemy.

This really shows how much importance pve players have anymore. This thread has existed for 5 days, and has 189 replies and more then 1000 views a day. During that time there have been 25 anet posts on pvp topics. There are 0 anet replies to this post. Priorities noted. Seriously, was there a board meeting and a memo passed around the office that said ’Don’t talk to these people, just ignore them so they go away. ’

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’d be surprised if that wasn’t the case.

Arenanet, you continue to disappoint and frustrate me with seemingly EVERY change you make to this game lately.
Yet again, you guys go and do something just so utterly…stupid and unnecessary and further diminish my enjoyment of GW. I can only take so much of this garbage before I am forced to give up on your franchise and move on. This isn’t a threat, this is just the increasingly probable consequence of your actions. I don’t want to do that. Really, really don’t.
I’ve been a big fan and a VERY active player since sometime before Nightfall came out in 06. I’ve spent a LOT of hours ingame, and I’ve spent a sizable amount of money supporting this game, a fair amount being extra items from both the gw1 and gw2 ingame stores. I really would like to continue supporting GW monetarily. And, for whatever it may be worth, I have often in the past supported and defended you in an admittedly fanboy-ish manner against those that do nothing but tear you and your game down.
Can’t say I do that much anymore.
Its really sad, considering how I always thought gw1’s biggest drawback was its, quite frankly, lackluster skill animations. Conversely, gw2’s amazing skill animations and visual effects are a big part of whats held me in these past three years. Now, you’re taking that away…..
Change it back. Do it, and do it soon. Don’t think you can ignore us.
Are the original animations and effects causing problems for people in large groups? Figure Something Else Out.
There are plenty of suggestions already on this thread you can check out.
So, please, stop diminishing your game. Return the original animations and visuals. And do yourselves a favor: if you are in fact do a lot of these things for the sake of getting into the esports niche….don’t. Just stop trying to focus your efforts and franchise into such an obscure thing. Just make a good game.

I didn’t want rifle for the thief. I really, really didn’t. However I couldn’t deny that the thief needs better ranged options. And I pretty much joined the rifle camp once I heard the early rumors about staff thieves.

Well, there could be the possibility that they couldn’t use the land as it once was, perhaps their farm was rendered sterile following the attack. While ash does help things grow, as Eve used to say in gw1, fire will sterilize instead. Or something similar that left them unable or no longer needing to use their property and they wanted the land to go to something important to them, like a chapel to their gods. Again, similar to what my family did.

There are changes to the dialogue of NPCs in the refugee camps at each of the order locations (in Gendarren Fields, just outside the Priory and in the camp in Bloodtide Coast). Just vague references to things changing soon.

I hope the majority of the new structures are not being airlifted in – it seems like a cheesy way to explain buildings appearing overnight. I also hope the Consortium aren’t as instrumental to the rebuilding as they are hinted to be in this update. Lion’s Arch was the trade capital of modern Tyria, if any city in Tyria had the skilled workers with the resources and trade contacts to rebuild after an attack, it’s Lion’s Arch. After more than a year with little to do, I have to wonder what the citizens of Lion’s Arch have been up to if the rebuilding was outsourced to the Consortium. The Lion’s Arch built by Cobiah Marriner was heavily rooted in the hard work and ingenuity of its citizens. It would be disappointing to see the new Lion’s Arch credited to the Consortium simply to give them a plot hook back into the story.

Agreed. I myself did like the style of the old GW2 Lion’s Arch, both the physical architecture and the culture, and I hope it doesn’t get overtaken by the Consortium.

If and when Lion’s Arch is rebuilt, they need to make sure the city has an actual wharf. As a center of trade and a major port, the three little docks it had at ’Macha’s Landing’ no where near cut it. That entire beach area adjacent to Macha’s and the Moran Memorial should have been ALL piers and docks. Rata Sum looks more like a proper port city then LA did, and this is the perfect opportunity to fix this.

[Theory Sharing][Slight Spoilers] The Vision

The Greyhawk.9107

and lets dispel the idea of the Mursaat being involved at all for 2 simple facts. 1) the Mursaat are from the Isle of Janthir, WAY too far north to be involved with any dragon. and 2) all the Mursaat where killed by the titans or in the battle for lions arch, save for the Aspect of Lazarus. we only know 1 thing about they’re race, they don’t grow they’re numbers. i have reason to believe that the Mursaat use Jade construct because they cant replenish they’re numbers. that said they’re involvement in the current story is highly unlikely.

Incorrect.
We do not know for sure that the Mursaat come from Janthir, though it is probable that they have/had as strong presence in one form or another on that island. Even so its distance can’t be much more of a factor then it was for the areas of eastern Ascalon that Mordy attacked. Its also been speculated for years that the Mursaat had a presence in the Maguuma somewhere. One of the biggest hints is Saul D’lessio’s story where he was driven from Kryta and came across the “Unseen City” in what is very likely to be in the Jungle.
We do not know anything about whether or not the Mursaat can’t reproduce. There is nothing in GW1 or GW2 lore that says anything about that. We don’t know how many may have survived besides Lazarus The Dire, prior to gw1’s War In Kryta event everyone already though Lazarus was the last, but at the time he wasn’t. There may yet have been more.

Requirements to be a "great race"?

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

I’m going to give my view on this, building a bit off of you all’s comments.

First off, the way I see it, a race must not be almost exclusively hostile to all others. Anet themselves refer to the Krait as a “black hat”, an outright evil race (their alliance with the Nightmare Court renegades notwithstanding, both sides seemed ready to stab the other in the back when the time was right).

The dredge aren’t much better, though at least there are the few that are trying to revolt and whom if nothing else are willing to except outside help.
It is my opinion that regardless of these (and similar) races’ unity or technological advancements that they can only be a negative force within Tyria.

The jotun and the grawl aren’t much better in these regards. We do meet a few friendly tribes of both, but so many more are outright hostile. This only adds on to the main problem of how primitive these two races are (it seems that the grawl only recently reached the level of having a spoken language, which says a lot). I think the grawl have centuries before they will be more then just the savages that they mostly are now. And the jotun will most likely continue to regress.

The skritt are strange with their ability to become more intelligent when in larger groups, so they could conceivably form a civilization overnight with a large enough group (like Skrittsburg) and then lose it the next day if they were scattered by an attack or some other disaster. Also add in that any individual or small group that gets too far away from the population center would probably regress makes for more of a tenuous situation. They most likely cannot become a true major race because of their…not sure what to call it, hive mind doesn’t seem right…but this part of their nature is as much a hindrance as a boon really. That said the skritt will still have a part in Tyria, just not a major one.

Both the kodan and the quaggan are recent refuges. Before becoming a major race they would first need to settle in and reestablish themselves. The quaggan, whom have probably been within Tyria a bit longer the kodan, are still very scattered. I’ve not seen much in regards to their various communities communicating and helping each other out. Between the kraits attacks and the DSD’s alleged influence killing their leaders and collapsing their civilization, they now seem to lack cohesiveness needed. The quaggan would also need to temper their more pacifistic tendencies, though I think that they are already starting to do so going by some parts of the PS. For these and other reasons they can’t be more then a minor race at this time.

The kodan are more of a recent arrival so regardless of how many more may have survived Jormag, they aren’t a major power in Tyria itself yet. They are only refuges really. In regards to the above discussion about the details of their civilization, it seems to me that their religion does mostly define them. They hardly seem to speak of anything but Koda and Balance. Things like the tribes and such seem to be mostly minor details in comparison.

I know I haven’t touched on Hylek or ogres but this is turning into a larger wall of text then I’d meant. So I’ll end with what may be the closest to major races; the Tengu and the Largos. With the tengu it seems they have a strong nation within the Walls of the Dominion, and unless there is evidence of the contrary the only reason they aren’t a major race is that they do not interact or effect the rest of Tyria with the strict isolation of the Dominion.
From some of the text from the female largos (I forget her name) it seems they do have a potentially well established and advanced civilization. But in many ways they are even more secretive then the tengu, so their effect on Tyria is similarly limited. They may not even be from Tyria. And there is the whole murdering people in most of the encounters with them, which if continues to be a trend with them would bring my first rule into effect.

Charr-Human friendship

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

Um, if I may, does no one see the irony of claiming that the charr don’t deserve Ascalon because of the incredible damage that they caused with the Searing, in light of the Foefire?

Well, part of what my previous statement about the Searing was attempting to acomplish was point out the environmental damages that the shaman charr caused, appealing to the sense of indignation folks have about that kind of thing now a days. Plus I find it foolish to intentionally ruin something you are trying to reclaim.

Also, the Foefire and the Sinking of Orr are very different from from the Searing in that Aldeburn and the Vizer are solely responable for their respective mass destrution. The Searing was planned and performed as a group.

All that said, I don’t want all of you to missunderstand my stance on things. In a way I don’t yet understand I do like the charr. I just get frustrated and…a little weirded out at things from ingame as well as from fans that (subtly or blatantly) seem to say ‘The humans got what they deserve" or “Their losses were meaningless”.
I’m an old gw1 player, 5 years of off and on (mostly on) playing. I still strongly empathise with the Ascalonians, a people many generations removed from the those that took the lands from the charr (which is why I do get angry at the charr opening’s statement about “them paying for their crime with their lives”. What, the crime of being born there?).
But in all honesty, the farther the story goes from a human/charr conflict the overall happier I’ll be. The charr are a facinating people, flawed, but none the less a lot of fun.
Plus I really loved Tybalt…..’scuse me…..gotta cry now.

Charr-Human friendship

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

My appoliges for continuing this tangent, but quite frankly the charr taking over Ascalon from the humans isn’t the same as when the humans first took it from the charr.
The Charr have a large region under their control, the humans simply pushed them out of it. When the charr invaded, they were trying to wipe the humans out, and frankly the humans were boxed in pretty well too. And the charr didn’t stop with Ascalon either…
Also, after a thousand years of of living in Ascalon; generations of people being born there, defending it against more then just the charr, farming the land, and eventually dying and being buried in the land itself, the humans had a greater claim on that land then the charr (of the time the Searing took place) did.
And lets not forget what the Charr did to take back ‘their land’. They ruined it. Under the humans it was a verdant beautiful country. Even after the 250 years, its still not completely recovered.

But, at the same time, the charr of today are not the charr that tried to conquer all three human kingdoms. The charr (for the most part) do not see humans as a plauge like the charr of the shaman caste days did.

And yeah, Adleburn showed how poor a leader he was long before the Foefire when he disowned and banished his only son over a triviality. The whole scale murder and condemnation that was the Foefire was simply his last failure.

The Greyhawk.9107

Huh weird, tightly woven leaves you say. The purpose of leaves is to absorb sunlight and facilitate photosynthesis, it doesn’t really make sense for leaves to be woven like that…
I had always assumed their bones were hard wood, their muscles a sort of plant fibres, their skin like a layer of stem/bark and their hair leaves.

Some creation options do imply (to my eyes) a bark like skin. Also, different plants do have leaves that have extra specialized uses. I believe that the ‘trap’ of a venus fly trap are such special leaves. Beyond that, I would recomend that you not let real world rules get in the way of a story; after all, it also doesn’t make sense for a plant to walk and talk.

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

Sylvari are a plants intertwined and twisted to imitate humanoid form. They don’t have real organs that provide the same function as our own. They are not people made of plant material, they are plants twisted to imitate people. They don’t have nipples because they the pale tree didn’t see it neccessary to imitate, apparently.

The problem with your statement here is that your implying that the Sylvari aren’t really people, which is contrary to Arenanet’s stance.

Also, Ree later corrected her statement about Sylvari not having organs, that rather they have organs that we wouldn’t recognize.

Honestly, whether Sylvari have nipples or not is of very little importance to me. And really, even if they did, your aren’t going to be able to see them anyways.
