The Mouth of Mordremoth talks, and it is Mordremoth’s physical body.

Welp, there goes my theory. kitten. This is what happens when you can never get into a successful DS map.

They’re much more common on NA servers than EU ones, which might affect how often different people see them.

And I’ve just remembered one instance where they were standing in maps just to see what people said – when Heart of Thorns was announced. Quite a few players who couldn’t be there in person got together in-game to listen to the announcement and some gatherings had Anet staff show up.

Of course they all knew what was going to happen, but I bet they enjoyed watching.

Hahaha, Kelvei. Man I hated him when I found out he was in GW2’s Q&A.
How old was this screenshot again? Last I spoke to Kelvei he wasn’t in Anet anymore.

Hints about a new continent being added

in Lore

The Greyhawk.9107

I kind of hope that in the (increasingly unlikely) event we see more of the world of Tyria, that they don’t stick to that map. Its hard to explain, but there is something kind of off with that map, with how some things are positioned and how large (continental) Tyria is compared to other landmasses (Elona and Cantha in particular).

Lorewise it’d be super easy to explain why the current global map wasn’t accurate. Cartography is hard enough in a time before planes without world ending dragons getting in the way, plus it really didn’t seem like Tyria had been fully explored enough to create a world map prior to the dragons’ rising. It could simply be said that this map was created with old and flawed sources. If one looks at how flawed real world maps were in antiquity it’d be very understandable that the same issues would be present in Tyria.

Mordremoth too talkative?

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

I think when comparing Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s…talkativeness or lack there of, I think its important to keep in mind how very different the nature of the two fight were. While EDs clearly have been shown to be intelligent enough to understand “mortal” language, they simply may not be physically capable of making the correct sounds necessary to speak it. Assuming that theory is correct, Zhaitan could only communicate his rage and offense with roars and growls. But Mordy’s fight was in a realm of the mind, his mind and will versus ours, where some of the physical limitations would not be present.
On top of that, I think that Mordremoth needed to talk at the end. The fight against him, starting from early LS1 up to reaching Dragon’s Stand, felt so much more personal than the campaign against Zhaitan. A battle like that needs the final confrontation to be equally personal, in ways that required Mordy to be able to communicate with us.
Well, those are my thoughts anyway.

Wondered about GvG back in 2012

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Greyhawk.9107

Well, again, Anet did say quite a while before launch that there wouldn’t be GvG, most of us knew this at launch.
If I recall correctly the reasoning they gave was they wanted to simplify PvP in order to better balance it. They stated how the half dozen differing forms of PvP in Gw1 was apparently extremely difficult to balance. Dunno how legitimate an answer that is personally.
As for “game defining”, well a kitten ton of people that played GW1 hardly ever touched GvG, myself included, so its not so game defining for many. And as far as the name “Guild Wars” goes, Anet picked that for their IP before they had much of anything conceptualized, both mechanics and lorewise. Supposedly they had a very different game mechanic planned when they came out with the initial trailer back in 2003-ish, one that kinda seems more similar to Factions’ Alliance Battles.

When Guild Wars 3 is released I’ll make sure to read what’s written on the box about the competitive modes.

Why do people keep bringing up the supposed GW3? While it makes sense that Anet would maintain its IP, a sequel or however you’d put it is most likely years away from even the early conceptual stages, much less development.

Also, Anet said very publicly that GvG, as it was known in GW1, wasn’t going to be in the game quite a while before beta, much less launch. Research things online, you’ll learn much more than whats on the back of a box.

You may need to purchase gems from time to time to stay alive but that’s the developers telling us they need money but do be aware that from the amount you are spending on gems monthly your actually paying more that a standard subscription on a regular MMORPG.

When have gems ever been necessary for staying “alive”? Nothing in the store is truly necessary, there’s only cosmetics and convenience items on it.

How is Anet going to top Mordremoth?

I’m personally really looking forward to Deep Sea Dragon, because I think they can take it and it’s domain in a very lovecraftian direction, everything we know about it already suggests it. It’s domain is the unknowable dephts of the oceans, and the only description we have of it’s minions are “tentacled horrors”. It’s domain also lends itself well to the idea that even the enviroment wants to kill you, the vast expanses of water ensuring that you can never feel safe, that no matter where you are, something is lurking just at the corner of your eye. Which brings me to an idea, having the Elder Dragon take a more active part in the early levelling experience. In WoW during the Cataclysm expansion, the dragon Deathwing occasionally flew across the world, scorching entire zones and killing anyone in his path. I’d like them to do something similar with DSD. Something along the lines of, you see something massive in the distance, something that’s mobning. The first time, you might want to swim closer and check it out, only for the water to start raging around you, battering and crushing you, as DSD minions start forming out of the water in the area, and though you might not have gotten a clear look at it, you know DSD just killed you. So whenever you see it from then, get the kitten away, swim or hide and hope you’re not too late.

Also it’d pretty much force Anet to address revenant underwater combat.

Theres a room for many good stuff with that.

As the HoT brought the thing to “focus on vertical exploration” and gliding, an expansion to the Deep Sea Dragon could bring something new in terms of maritime exploration. Bring forth, back atmosphere “piracy” that involved much of the history of Lions Arch. And why not improved naval battles?

Those are both some pretty kitten good ideas. I especially like the idea of DSD taking a more active role, yet more sinister role.

At start, this game was not built for PvE grinding, but dynamic events, engaging players in a changing content with story. Now we were asked to grind 10k drinks on Christmas holiday.

At start, this game was not built on the idea of 1v1, it was built on teamwork and PvP balance with teams. Something tells me this concept will soon change too. Just wait a bit.

Ah yes, people talking about hypothetical things. The true metric for a game’s success.

And people already talking about gw3.. is gw2 a success or total failure?

People started talking about GW2 after the success of the original GW1 release and then after each successful new campaign and after its single (successful) expansion. People started talking about GW3 within months after GW2 launched.

The thing is: people start talking about additional sequels if they loved and if they hated (parts of) the most recent release.

Hell, people started bringing up a supposed GW3 before GW2 Was Even In Closed Beta.

Any chance for Spears used on land?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

Yep spear/polearm and well… any kind of weapon that is attached to a long stick should be a weapon of choice used on land.
Dang it our ancestors used such arms because it was the most efficient weapon through centuries.

We dunno lore-wise what happened to paragons and dervish due to human gods going “kthxbai”. But if spear makes it into a throwing variant instead (or also) of good ol’ swing and stab, then I bet that some people might be a little dissapointed.
It really makes me think, why spears were thrown into water… guardians, wardens, warriors… it’s such an obvious weapon to use just like a two handed sword.
Let’s get realistic becuase it was claimed few years back that polearms were created but didn’t make it into the final cut, yet they still hang in there on the board waiting for their glorious time to come.
If we plead enough, this time might come sooner but devs have to know that we want something like that to be a part of new content that is to come in the future.

At this point in time, it might be better to instead make more staves that look like pole-arms rather than make a new weapon set. Honestly, I don’t really see Anet adding new weapons into the game at all.

What proof did you give other than a screen shot? Your OP makes it sound like you’re saying the game is dying, then give data on WvW activity. Yes WvW is in a freefall. Anyone can see that. But these players can simply be playing PvE, which is what HoT is full of ATM.

Edit – I’m one of those players who used to play WvW a lot. Now I only do dailies in WvW if at all. Doesn’t mean I left the game. I’m doing a lot of PvE and PvP now.

I think Zhaitan would be too overconfident to call all its navy back (it prolly saw the Pact&PC as ants till the last minute. Witch would be to late to call back a ocean fleet at that point.

Plus, the Pact made more use of airships than conventional naval vessels prior to hitting the mainland of Orr. And a navy can’t do much good once the battle goes deeper inland.

Thats….not at all what he meant. Konig said that we only destroy five or so ships (which I may not necessarily agree with) not that the fleet only had five ships.

What? 5 ships? Even in Seas of Sorrows and Edge of Destiny novel there were more than these dead ships got destroyed. In the story we destroyed at least 7-8 specific dead ships(the one carrying corpses, the three to sneak in, the one carrying magic items, the one tried to ambush us and the Warmonger) surely plus a lot more in the war since none of these were fought in a open naval battle.

Are you saying Zhaitan was that stupid, didn’t call the majority of its navy back when Orr was under attack?

Wow, you guys are high strung tonight. Take a few breaths and re-read what it was I said and what was said by Konig.

The Greyhawk.9107

I wouldn’t count the, what, five or so ships to be “a lot” for a navy that terrorized the Sea of Sorrows and patrolled the Strait of Malchor that kept the continent blockaded despite the Rata Sum’s docks being what would seemingly be outside the blockade (as it is beyond the Ring of Fire-to-Orr portion).

If the navy can permanently blockade Rata Sum’s docks, then it has to be bigger than the 10 or so ships we see throughout the storyline, or the 5 or so we destroy.

And they are NOT in the middle of an ocean. Just look at the map and you’ll see the that the Strait of Malchor is exactly what it’s called – a strait.

Nothing says that the risen were out in the ocean – nothing ever said that. They were before the ocean, preventing access to it. Even an organized navy cannot blockade within an ocean – too much open space.

But a strait and a coastline? That can be done even by sparse amounts of ships.

If there were only five ships and without Zhaitan, without the reinforcements, I don’t see how would it be able to block anything against the Canthan Empire or Joko’s navy and the Pact fleet on the otherside.

Thats….not at all what he meant. Konig said that we only destroy five or so ships (which I may not necessarily agree with) not that the fleet only had five ships.

Yes, they did state at some point that they will add more elite specializations, so this is a possibility…
Here’s for hoping we’ll get it with the next expansion or LS S3

A Revenant could use a flail and channel another God like Balthazar

Revs don’t have anything to do with the gods.

When the reverent can channel demons, and dead people, why not gods? It would be a nice way to have something akin to the dervish “Avatar forms” back…

They channel dead spirits that have gone to the mists, so nothing to do with gods.

Dead spirits go to the underworld, the realm of Grenth within the mists. Mallyx the Unyielding is not a dead spirit he is a demon from the Domain of anguish in the realm of torment. This was the domain of Abaddon the god of secrets, until he were killed and his power taken by Kormir the current god of truth.
So, we can conclude without any question, that we are already channeling one being from the Domain of Anguish in the realm of torment. We do channel at least three other spirits, from the underworld, which is the domain of Grenth, the what? third? and current god of Death. We also know that the Dervish was able to become avatars of the gods, and not only can humans become avatars, they can also kill and become gods, in accordance to Guild wars lore.
If you look to the fantasy universe, an Avatar is someone possessed by a higher being, much like a Revenant in guild wars 2. Thus we can conclude that it is both in accordance with guild wars lore, and in accordance with the Revenants abilities, to channel gods…

Sorry, but you’re a bit off base here.
First off, Mallyx being originally from DoA and not the Underworld doesn’t mean much since he’s dead. He dies at the end of the DoA quest-chain. So in that regard he’s no different from the others Revs’ channel. So, no, we can’t “conclude without question”. Honestly, that’s not a good statement to make.
Honestly, Revs aren’t like Dervs and their ability to channel the power of the human gods. Revs are much more like Ritualists, they draw power directly from the Mists, and the spirits that reside there. Obviously how said power is used is vastly different between the two professions.

Racial Specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

There should be due to the fact that each race has their own special thing which could add into their play-style. For charr the obvious two choices would be Tribune, and we have seen our PC getting that rank for a while now. If rytlock can have it and go gallivanting around the world, we should be able to as well? And make it add a special thing for us, similar to a paragon where we shout commands and buffs to help our allies and basically become somewhat of a tanky/support pc depending on the class you play on your charr.
Humans would be a diffcult one but i think that for the simplist terms it should “Champion”. The champion being a heavy handed dps/Sustain depending on the class of your choice, having it fit well into the lore as you are the champion of divinitys reach in a sense.

Sylvary should get Valiant of the Wyld Hunt, a rank we already have and the training going along with it could be a condi/raw dps depending on what your running to boost your pc in areas your either weak in or strong in already.
I have no idea about the asurans, dont have one and never played one. I have no idea how their ranking works or what they could use for their specialization, but im sure someone has an idea.

Norn are able to have two and both i feel would be kittening awesome. The first would be to become a Havroun and gain MASSIVE power and get to be one of the strongest of the norn, giving us the ability to be both Tanky/Cc orientated with tons of just aoe devastation. The second is a shape shifter or Lycanthrope of a werebeast, probably of our choice with the various beasts of the world being of that choice. (( wyvern form, warg form ect ect)) following into their lore, but expanding on it through rituals needed to become one with a spirit of the wild. Perhaps us becoming one with our respective spirit would be it as well, where we become their physical embodiment thus leading into the fight with jormag.

I feel the Orders should have specializations to do with the highest rank you can achieve, but i mean its a bit much to ask for at this time. But doing the racial ones would tie well into the choices we made at the beginning of the game. Our pc’s going on a quest to get stronger to prep for the next massive battle.

What you’re asking for isn’t something that’s easy to do with an MMO with (sorta) persistent maps. People go through the game at differing paces, some starting much later than others. You can’t really make the maps match up with everyone without splitting us all up into instances like in GW1.
I honestly don’t know how Anet could do what your asking for.

Try playing ESO then come back and say it can’t be done.

Try playing recent updates to LOTRO then come back and say it can’t be done.

As it so happens I completed the Personal Story for the first time last week and I thought “it’s a pity this isn’t ESO, we’d get to see Orr restored the way the narrative and the static images being shown as it played described”.

There’s a significant difference between saying something is difficult to do and saying it can’t be done. Take a closer look at which one I said. Also, Arenanet isn’t Zenimax, you have to be willing to take into account what differing game studios are willing to do. And frankly, I’m not placing any bets on Anet going through the metric kittenton of work to completely re-make Orr.

Appologies, had something in my throat.

You might like launching bigger ones, but standing in melee range is hell with giant attack animations comming from all sides. Standing within 300 range of target it’s impossible to see anything during larger events.

Again, nothing has really been improved for your types. The particle animation for the projectile was shrunk, but the IMPACT particles were NOT. That was the problem, not the fireball itself, this change didn’t do a kitten thing to help you.

Reddit is on the case, again.

And the official forums remain ignored

I also dislike the new fireball. It’s so small and measly. And toning it down is trying to fix a much larger symptom.

It fixed nothing! While the projectile is tiny, the impact particles still scale with the boss.

AN please add more skins NOT outfits!

Balthazar Skin – Take off your helmet and your head is suspended in orange colored air. Or.. “Yo dawg, we heard you like head so we put head on your head…”

Lyssa – Wings on your chest? And one gender gets only one wing.

Meldandru – Transformers Quintessons helmet.

At the risk of sounding like an utter basement dweller, you’ve got the names wrong: Dwayna has the wings, Lyssa has the creepy faces.

In regards to the actual topic, at a certain level I can appreciate, even prefer that Anet keep full armor sets something acquired ingame as opposed to the gemstore. But of course, in order for this to work to, well, anyone’s satisfaction Anet need to actually start getting their backsides in gear and MAKE more armors, irregardless of the increased difficulty in comparison to outfits. I myself am very disappointed with the woeful lack of new skins, both armor and weapon, released in HoT.

I agree, this is becoming excessive as there are at this time three unique advertisements/announcements taking up space on top of whatever else that shows up in that corner of the screen. Its very distracting.

I’ve had the same issue since getting my current laptop, which has a wider screen then the previous unit. I’ve always figured that was the reason.
