Do you want to fish the underwater elder dragon using jungle wurm as a bait? :p

Somehow the image this created in my head was just too ridiculous, so I had to share with you. This is what epic fishing in GW2 would look like!

I officially award you The Internet for Today.

Elite Specializations and no new classes?

In regards to class vs profession, as an old gw1 player I did used to go with profession. However I tend not to as much, as class IS easier to write quickly, and that ‘profession’ can also refer to crafting professions (which gw1 didn’t have). Frankly its semantics and isn’t really worth the time.

I don’t consider it outright broken, but I do agree that UW needs a fair amount of work. I"m one of those sorry saps that choose an underwater weapon for a legendary, and I don’t want that to have been for nothing. Arenanet, fix the combat, fix the skills, stop leaving out UW skins out of new sets.

Elite Specializations and no new classes?

Anyone have thoughts on not adding new classes into the game and relying fully on Elite Specs? My thoughts are found here: https://youtu.be/EujyKkP3Xhw It’s an interesting concept seeing elite specs as new classes.

Repeatedly adding new classes can do more harm to a game than not, and at some point they can become redundant. Quite frankly Anet probably added the Revs for the primary purpose of evening out the class types (three soldiers, three adventurers, three scholars). Personally I don’t anticipate Arenanet adding anymore classes to the game.

The Greyhawk.9107

If you read my quote above, you’ll see that I asked Greyhawk to stop caring. At no point did I say that I’ve stopped caring. You claim that I did, and then turn around to ask me why I’m posting here if I’ve stopped caring. What you’ve done here (with me) is what you’ve been doing with Greyhawk this entire thread (which btw he’s already pointed out, see below).

Uhh, no. Saying “If you were him” combined with the statement “I’ve lost all hope” a statement very much akin to “I stopped caring” yes, from those statements I can make a pretty accurate assessment that you’ve lost all hope in this debate and stopped caring. I’m glad he has a social counselor to guide him (he really needs it) but I feel like your skills are wasted. – Forget not wanted in the debate, but could you please stop derailing my topic it’s bad enough explaining the alphabet to Greyhawk, I don’t need another trying desperately to prove that he/she has friends on here.

Annnd now we’re throwing in Ad Hominems on top of Strawmans. Man, I want to meet whomever taught you how to debate.

snip

Look, I’m sure you’re a good guy and all, and that you mean well, but your style of discussion where you go at those who’ve disagreed or challenged you in a rather rude manner aren’t doing your arguments any favours.

You seem very adamant about your view on the sylvari and the dream, but so far it hasn’t done much to convince others. It’s a nice little headcanon if we could call it that, but I don’t see you convincing others or the majority of it. Especially when people like koening can refute more or less all of the claims in such a well laid out manner. You are free to have the headcannon you want, but the way you’ve been going at it won’t convince others of it being “right”.

I appreciate you jumping in and attempting to guide me, I’m not adamant about any view really. For all we know could go any way, after playing that is what I concluded. I don’t know who this Koening is, I’m sure he’s very knowlegable, but nobody save Arenanet staff should be considered an “end all” of sorts. Again no offense to you but I can’t stand those that claim to speak for everyone, you do not know enough of everyone to make the statements you’re making. What are you proposing is I come to you to find out how to “convince” eveyone, correct? Your post certainly suggests just that. Ignoring the assumption that you hold all the social secrets on here I just as well get a pm instead of chiming in with something directed at me. If we could please get back on topic…

You, are the one that keeps derailing, not anyone else. You are keeping the discussion from staying civil thanks to how you’ve treated Konig, myself and now Shae. You have Strawmaned us, keep making accusations about “people speaking for others” when they are just making generalized observable statements, you keep telling people what to do as if you actually have ownership over this thread and then tell us we need to keep our egos in check. From the get go you haven’t treated anyone here with respect nor given their arguments respect. If this thread ends up getting locked, you’ve no one but yourself to blame for it.

Also, its Sylvari. With a Y.

BETA WEEKEND: REWARDS NOT SAVED

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

I absolutely disagree with you. There is zero reason why you need to keep the loot on a >>DEMO<< character. If you want loot play normal.

There are plenty of reasons….. the biggest, and historically most difficult to reverse, is bugs and balance miscalculations. Just to give an example- the 2 minute Teq happened because a bug in Symbolic Avenger allowed Guardians to gain a 10% damage bonus for EVERY symbol the enemy was standing when they hit. Once the damage was ramped up, they were doing almost 100k per hit (including per symbol pulse) and just melted Teq’s HP in every burn phase.

Once this became common knowledge, people wanted to abuse it left and right. This puts Anet in a very hard position, because the argument could be made that its a Bug, and that its open season until Anet patches it. On the other hand, its clearly being exploited for easy gains, and can destabilize the economy if leveraged for loot farming.

Imagine if this bug existed with Raids….. Just replace every DPS slot (or possibly the entire team) with Hammer Guardians, and clear DPS sections of a boss fight in mere seconds. Should they be allowed to keep the rewards, when they knowing exploited something that was well outside the performance margin? Or that loop hole found with a Karma vendor that sold you a free item you could sell for 2 copper. A bunch of people made thousands of gold off that.

Thats just on a production system, where intent can be more easily identified. But now we have a new set of code that hasn’t had large scale testing done on it, with a higher chance of bugs/loopholes that can be exploited for unintended gains. Some might not even be conscious of this happening, because there is no publicly documented baseline to know if it is or isn’t behaving “normally”. A player discovers a trait combo that puts out 200k DPS on an optimal rotation, but that same trait combo puts out 35k on a less rigorous rotation. Is the latter considered exploiting because they are using that trait combo? Or is it just a coincidence that they picked that trait combo, and hasn’t realized the damage potential possible if they just incorporated other skills?

Having the beta characters on a separate back end accounts isolates the unwarranted gains, while isolating them from PvE prevents them from exploiting something to give OTHER people those gains from group content.

And yes, I’m well aware how current arrangement is purposely disruptive to normal WvW/PvP activity. But with PvP you can compartmentalize beta players through the match maker (and monitor them more closely). However….. unfortunately for WvW, the big benefit here is that any balance issues with the new Especs will become rapidly apparent, given how likely many players are willing to abuse them in that kind of large scale PvP setting. But one scheduled weekend of disruption (which can purposely ignore GLEKO) beats several weeks of live of exploit abuse that actually does mess with the ranking system.

Hey, I think you responded to the wrong person. Do a re-read of Palimow’s post.

While an argument could be made to discount everything in Astrophysics given the right knowledge. Astrophysics however minor in let’s say 20B.C, is almost entirely non-applicable given how much knowledge we’ve “gained”. I can imagine 8000 years from now they will look back at us and think the same god willing. Looking back they didn’t have the right tools, knowledge, mindset, or really anything to attempt Astrophysics, but I’m sure they tried, I’m sure they argued, had debates. More importantly, things that were very “clear” to them then, is no longer clear or proven false.

Astrophysics is the perfect analogy of not having all the pieces, sure we can talk about it, but we don’t have the main piece. Given time with seasons who knows maybe Ronin wanted to create dragon hunters, maybe it turns out the well or lake is magically bound to the tree thoughts, a point is we don’t know the main piece that we need to know to have this kind of debate. On a much less grand scale, I’ve tried peanut butter, I know that I like it, I’ve even seen it made, I don’t understand all the ingredients in it, but I know it’s nature and why it is here, and how it came to be. I have enough information to say if I like the stuff. Apply that to anything that you have.

We can go back and forth all day, year, whatever. That fact is we truly do not know, and that won’t change until we have its main piece. It’s not missing a smaller piece, it’s missing the main component to have this discussion.

On a serious note though i’m sure arenanet are prepared to make rytlock the all seeing, all powerful master of the universes if that means they can release another rytlock mini/collectors statue (now with glowing wings). He is already close enough to defying the fabrics of time as it is so it shouldn’t be a problem.

I hope this doesn’t happen. Bad enough I hate Rytlock and Anet is already shoving him down my throat every rotten chance they get. :\

I don’t know man, he’s been MIA a lot lately. He was gone a long time when he chased his sword into the Mists, and shortly after the events of HoT he got “recalled” back to the Black Citadel, only returning at the beginning of PoF. We’ve not seen a ton of him lately.

Idea's If We Get Mounts In Core Tyria.

I don’t care for this idea either. It would really screw over new players, take up valuable dev time when they should be focusing on balancing PoF, and hundreds of pages on the wiki would need to be caught up to date. All that for what gain? To have a ‘feeling’ while traveling the world? Not worth it.

I am looking forward to less waypoints in PoF, and getting more of the experience that you talk about. But that is for the expansion, leave core Tyria out of it. There is nothing stopping people like us from simply ignoring the core Tyria waypoints and traveling from the Grove to Fireheart Rise on our mounts.

It also makes sense from a lore standpoint, most of Core Tyria is well established, being where five major nations and a trade power-house of a city-state.

I think one of the highest places you can go is the top of the lost precipice gh we built a ramp to the highest mountain in lost precipice and its really high (without void jumping)

we did the same thing with a cloud staircase in gilded hollow! got so high we couldn’t jump without hitting out heads at the top of the map. but as far as natural structures, I’d have to say The arm of abbadon is pretty high. I can glide from one end of the map to the other

Yeah, I was going to say that one myself, if nothing else its the longest current ‘Diving’ location, even longer than the Zephyr Sanctum/Labyrinthine Cliffs one (kitten do I ever miss that map).

The Greyhawk.9107

I disagree, I do find the two ideas comparable, though obviously not exactly the same (I really should have to say that last part). But fine, lets put that to the side.
What about people that don’t have PoF? As Flesh Wound already brought up, anyone that doesn’t have PoF for…whatever reason (money issues, lack of interest, still new, etc.) they’d be up kitten creek without a paddle if your idea was implemented. People would be forced to either buy PoF or abandon the game.
The thing is, absolutely no one is forced to use WPs if they don’t want to (aside from resing, and even that’s not absolute) but we’ve already seen from last weekends Demo that PoF does force the players to use mounts in some places, the story instance in particular.

Idea's If We Get Mounts In Core Tyria.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Greyhawk.9107

I’m going to chime in and say I think these are bad ideas.

Mounts offer some special abilities, but they don’t seem to offer significant movement speed boost over my normal run speed, as such, trying to justify removing WP’s because we have mounts would be a massive negative.

If you want to run around on your mount, that is fine, you can take further away way points and run over, if that is what you enjoy, enjoy it, but not everyone wants to run everywhere, mount or no mount.

As for what would need to change, personally.. nothing, from what I have seen, the way they were put in does not break the Core game if they were added to it.

if that were the case then the new maps would have alot more WP. sometimes less is more. its also not about breaking the game its whats the point of even adding them in you can just WP where ever you want.

The reason there’s barely any WPs in the PoF maps (so far) is that Arenanet is trying to force the players to use the mounts. Artificial scarcity, in a manner of speaking. We never actually needed mounts with the myriad of ways to move from place to place: waypoints, Gates, speed buffs, teleports, gliding, mushrooms, wallows, etc, etc, etc.

Yes sometimes less is more, but sometimes just enough is just enough.

If mounts are locked behind an expansion (as they are) then removing wps punishes all who don’t have that expansion. This is a suggestion that ignores all the f2p accounts, new accounts with PoF but without a level 80 and a mount yet, and accounts without PoF.

Pretty much covers why touching anything about the waypoints is a bad thing. While you may have a dislike of the WPs, for a lot of players (I won’t claim they are a majority of the base, but they are by no means an insignificant amount) do like WPs and found them to be a major drawing point.
I’ve been kittening around with BDO on and off (for little other reason than it was on sale for less than a meal at my preferred fast-food joint and the mobility in combat is actually pretty cool) and the complete lack of fast travel and total reliance on mounts means that some sixty odd percent of time online is spent AFKing while your mount moves you to wherever you needed to go (and yer kitten outta luck if there’s a boss event even a short distance away). So no, keep the waypoints the way they are. With the single caveat of finally fixing those waypoints rendered inoperable during the beginning of LS season Two.

the answer to the question that wasn’t asked would be just one word: “choice”.
If you give People means of travel, they can decide for themselves, how they are going to traverse those maps.
You on the other Hand aren’t forced to use them. You can completely ignore mounts and simply move the classic way without mounting any beasts…

Actually this is not true. The game DOES force you to use them in some places. You had to use them to complete the first story instance for PoF, and I am willing to bet money that there will be other places within the story, as well as sections of the maps, that will require a mount.

Dueling in PvE.

It would be awesome if you could challenge a random person to a duel.

For those scared of being spammed: By default everyone should have “Allow duel invites” on decline. Nothing will change for those that don’t want to duel. Everything will be the same for them.

For those scared of toxic players: There are always toxic players no matter what game content you are playing.

People have been asking for this little system for years.

For those that give the argument of “You got sPVP and WvW for that” – it’s not the same. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/38uray/gw2_and_open_world_duels/)

Adding duel to PvE will make the game look and feel more lively outside WvW and sPVP.

Where is it? Why is it still not in game? What is the reason that ArenaNet doesnt add it? Has there been an official reply from ArenaNet regarding this matter?

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been waiting from the release of this game.
I mean why is it even not there?

> your gear looks trash. 1v1 me noob
> getting bothered to duel at random or by some aggressive troll will get on your nerves

There will always be toxic people no matter the game type.

Sheltering people as much as possible and putting them in a safe-space bubble isn’t the way to go. It cuts down on the social and interactive aspect of the community.

This safe-space bubble has already been added to WvW, which is bad choice in my eyes but I digress. (Can’t party invite enemy team anymore.)

I always have a good laugh at the excuses people use to say no to this. It’s like what spiders are to arachnophobes. Everyone will exaggerate the oh so dire consequences of dueling! As soon as they log in they will get 100 invitations to duel and be constantly harassed! Lol

Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South

This post is describing the first Elite Specialization in my idea for what they should do for a Canthan expansion. This is probably the most obvious one that first came to me: the Ritualist. Here is the first Elite Specialization for Guild Wars 2: Dragon of the South:

Elite Specialization: The Ritualist

Revenants coming to the lands of Cantha will find themselves embracing the legendary spirit of Master Togo, becoming Ritualists. Ritualists can use a Scepter to access new spells, and use a new Utility Skill Type: Urns. Urns contain the ashes of the great heroes of Canthan histroy, and allow Ritualists to have a certain boon when carrying them. When dropped, Urns create an effect, wether it be healing everyone around them or blinding foes near it.

The purpose of Elite Specializations is, as many designers have said, to make the profession almost feel like a different one. The Revenant is a very good opportunity to bring back the old Ritualist profession from Guild Wars 1. This seemed like the perfect Elite Spec for the Revenant, being both blind and having a strong connection with the Mists.

Why do people keep thinking Rits and Revs are blind? They wear the blindfold to block out distractions so they can better focus on the Mists (ok thats an over simplification, but thats the jist of it).

THIS. This is an important feature that Arenanet absolutely HAS to implement or it will be a complete deal breaker for me. Mounts MUST not be summon-able within LA or any of the five racial cities. If this isn’t implemented I’ll probably not continue playing.

XD if you can’t stand something like that, I’m surprised you could keep playing this game until now. Not like it’d affect you in any negative way.

I agree. All those pink hair and terrible auras are far worse than anything mounts could do. Mounts at least do no clash with the game’s aesthetic.

Ever heard the phrase ‘The Straw that broke the camel’s back’? Meditate on that.
Look, mounts SCALE, which means that with every Charr or Norn mount we’re going to have something half the size of a T-rex parked at high player traffic areas like crafting stations, the mystic toilet, unique merchants, and banks. Don’t don’t think people won’t do it just to be kittens. Cities don’t need mounts, the waypoints are practically stuffed together like sardines in a can. And you guys bring up clashing aesthetics when one of the mounts is a motherkittening giant rabbit.
Riiiiight.
Arenanet, do this one thing and I promise I’ll never say jack against mounts again.

If we get a Bard I want a tamer for my ranger.

Two pets out at all times, spec focuses on making them kittenes and loosing the ability too switch between them. Id prefer a rifle as a weapon but pistols will do perfectly fine, call it “The Huntsmen” and its done.

No offence, but that does not sound very “Bard like” it sounds more like a Ranger with a Sidearm.

Its not supposed to, I was saying if you get bard then I Want this. Sorry for the misunderstanding there.

Why should anyone have to get something else if they put Bards into the game?

If they put bards into the game, then you get the chance to enjoy playing a bard in GW2, which should be it’s own reward.

I get how this is supposed to be a joke but, kitten does that come off as kittenish. I mean, I’ve less than zero interest as playing as a…bard…that’s somehow able to…kill monsters with bad singing.

Its important for some of you to remember that the Charr are Charr, not merely (semi) bipedal cats. [Request] Report Option for Pet Names

The Greyhawk.9107

If I remember correctly Anet have previously said that when a player is reported for a name violation they check the character name, pet name and guild name.

Oh? First time I am hearing about this.

If you’re concerned that it might not be obvious what the problem is (e.g. if it’s in a language other than English) you can always take a screenshot and submit a Support ticket so you can explain the problem.

That would be an additional amount of work I am not willing to undertake, because when I once reported players in that complicated manner (including screenshots and time stamps etc.) on a different matter (namely abuse of the kick function), support didn’t do anything about it (at least that’s what they basically told me in their response).

I like how you can’t be bothered to do a little more work, but you want Arenanet to spend work hours to program this feature into the game for you.

I like that there is races of different species. Quaggan have orcas, hylek have itzel. I hope we see different giants.

That actually makes the most sense.

I like how this is starting to turn into a (vaguely) feminist issue (with the last two posts). But like I already said, let the normies have their fun, the Doritos will always return.

Yeah, I forgot I was talking to Konig the Lich. My bad.

I still like my “Koss the twelfth son of Koss!” idea. (Or whatever the number of generations it woulda been, twelfth just had the best sound to it).

just look up Berlin 1917 and Berlin 2017. Or Hamburg 1925 and Hamburg 1975.

change happens. a lot.

you compare an industrial area with a desert, the changes are drastically different in pace.
berlin has changed because it’s in the middle of the revolution, a desert will stay that way for a few 1000 years and barely change at all.

I point you to Dubai for a modern or example.

Or the massive excavation that happened in Egypt to uncover massive monuments that had been buried for a very long time, if you want an older example. Or hell, any excavation of anything thats been buried no matter where in the world.

Things get built, destroyed and rebuilt over and over constantly, and often in the same spot. Hell, look at the ruins of Troy.

I’d just as well as not see any gw1 heroes as undead/awakened, not even crappy ones like that fat memser whose name I can’t be kittened to remember. And considering how most of them did keep traveling after Nightfall its not implausible that they may have passed in either Tyria or Cantha.

You mean you don’t want to see more of this awesomeness?

No, I really don’t. Can you imagine what that would look like three quarters rotted away? Ugh. Plus he probably put on a few before his ‘untimely’ demise, further ‘enhancing’ the ‘ugh’ factor by about nine.

God for a Human Elementalist

The Greyhawk.9107

As you can see, the associations are heavily interlocking. In the case of an Elementalist it would seem the choice might be led by what specific element you were interested in. Energy Storage is no longer a factor for “modern” Elementalists.

True, however I’d argue that the Arcane trait line used by modern Elementalists is the new tie to Lyssa now instead of the old Energy Storage attribute.

In my opinion that’s how it should have been, but it can probably be argued that it isn’t important or distinct enough.

It’s the old and young miners south of the quarry. I didn’t take screenshots, but the gist is that there’s a story of a peaceful choya village on top of a mesa somewhere out in the desert, but that they remain peaceful by tossing troublemakers off the cliff. The unspoken implication being that all of the hostile choya we have to deal with come from those outcasts.

Such an enlightened people.

Sylvari an argument for the best race?

in Lore

The Greyhawk.9107

There is no control mechanism from the pale tree, other than the wyld hunts instilling a sense of purpose or drive for some sylvari, the teachings is simply a written work in stone produced by a centaur we met in gw1.

You are correct in all but one point, Wyld hunts come from the Dream, by her own admission the Tree cannot choose or control what hunts a sylvari has or which sylvari even get a hunt.

Ah, true. Mixed that one up, was a bit late when I was making my post. Thanks. I suppose it would be more correct to say the pale tree can offer guidance or help for the sylvari who have a wyld hunt then, and it would be up to the individual sylvari to choose what to do with said guidance no?

Well, yeah. She certainly does have a insight into the Dream and its mysteries, and if nothing else she’s been around for a few centuries and knows a thing or two.

Actually they use the same engine, GW2’s just got a (fairly heavily) modified version of it.

Did Scarlet know about Balthazar?

in Lore

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

First , there has been a succession among the gods. Some have risen and others fallen. As I pointed out in another thread, each of the current gods have multiple associations. Some of them overlap.

True. But of the few cases we have of succession has one domain always remaining. In Grenth/Dhuum’s case, it is death. In Abaddon/Kormir’s case, it is knowledge. The other things associated with the four gods are superficial at best, and could be said to not ever be truly a domain they govern, but just a flavor they have.

These two domains also match exactly how the norn view the “Spirits of Action” (as they call the gods) – which they call Life, Death, War, Knowledge, and Nature (we’re not sure on what they call Lyssa though). Which would mark the one thing that ties Primordus and Balthazar together… irrelevant.

I’d place Melandru as opposite Mordremoth, Earth and her specific affinity with plants.

Glint ( the lieutenant of Kralkatorik ) was a Mesmer and associated with crystals. So, I’d associate Lyssa with Kralkatoric.

In the story step Hidden Arcana, Glint’s telepathic skills are explicitly stated to be “unique” to her. Of course, the Dragonspawn exhibits similar attributes in Edge of Destiny, and Mordremoth’s second domain is mind (though he never uses telepathy on non-mordrem/sylvari).

So just because Glint used telepathy/mesmer magic, doesn’t mean Kralkatorrik even can. By all indication – albeit all of such comes from Edge of Destiny novel – he never once exhibits any mesmer like qualities, and aside from the color purple and shared animations, neither do the branded.

In short: Glint is unreliable in that regard. What we do see both Glint and Kralkatorrik linked to are crystals and air/sky.

So that second domain could link Kralkatorrik up to Dwayna, but that’s still not linking Crystals and Life.

I didn’t say or imply that the dragons served the gods. I said that they counterbalance. That being the case, The gods arriving at a different moment from the gods isn’t really relevant.

Actually, it is entirely relevant because the gods arrived as gods, and the Elder Dragons are directly tied to the world.

This means that the gods are not tied to the world at all, thus their origins and their powers are intrinsically different.

The idea of associating gods to dragons has been around since we first learned that there were not five but six Elder Dragons. And time and time again, it fails to link up. For reasons both of us have presented. It has come up but failed to be anywhere close to conclusive so much that ArenaNet put a reference to the ever-returning discussion in the game.

The closest attempt I’ve ever seen was by splitting association by domains rather than directly 1:1 ratio, so that one god and one dragon held the same domain. This fell in error, however, because of too many assumptions (it forced assuming Jormag’s and Primordus’ second domains and the DSD’s two domains to fit well enough with the conceptual domains of the gods, and turned Kralkatorrik’s second domain into something much different than what it seems to be by all evidence (sky/air)).

Or TL:DR, this topic of discussion is begging for one of my ‘Beating a Dead Horse’ Gifs.
