PoF predictions...

The Greyhawk.9107

I predict that we will kill Balthazar and Rytlock will take his power to become the new god of war, Kormir-style. Rytlock clearly already knows something that he will FINALLY reveal to us as he mentions it in the trailer, and who else is kitten enough to take that kind of power (besides the PC, but we all know Anet won’t let us do that).

You heard it here first folks.

This is literally the worst thing ever and a complete disregard to old lore.
I get accepting the peace treaty – I get that we have to be a PC with all the other races now.
I can even begrudgingly accept that I can’t join Balthazar in the first PoF mission despite being asked to do so and wholeheartedly wanting to.

But this is too far – to have a Charr as the human god of war – it just completely ruins the old lore for me.
I honestly wouldn’t accept it.

Considering the fact that Balthazar isn’t a God anymore I highly doubt that someone will take his power so I wouldn’t worry that much that Rytlock will take Balthazars place as God of War since someone else already replaced him.

We don’t know that for sure, he could still hold his mantle, but the mantle isself may have been diminished.

If you’ve travelled extensively in the desert ( I have ) you know that dunes can shift entirely, sometimes daily. There are also “soft cots” where a tracked vehicle can sink as into water.. fine as talcum powder.

Having part of the new Amnoon City sinking is entirely believable.

Gem Store: "Armor Class Profession Changer"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: The Greyhawk.9107

The Greyhawk.9107

So basically i have run into an odd delima whereby I want to change my Warrior (Sylvari) into a Revenant, my Guardian (Norn) into a Warrior, and my Revenant (Human) into a guardian.

I know that I could just purchase another character slot which cost about “800 gems” although starting over with a brand new character; which is time consuming, or by deleting a current character with all of its progression (map areas, locations, birthday’s (I’ve been playing since pre-launch, name etc) for another really isn’t an option for me at-least in my opinion that is.

Secondly i understand that we have the level 80 Boost that we are able to use on a new character although just as a “personal preference” I would much rather just purchase a Total Make Over Kit (350 – 1400 gems), or a Identity Repair Kit (1000 gems) rather than create another character of the “same profession”.

- In my defense for this idea i just want to state that considering we have specializations (that makes other weapons viable to wield especially for upcoming expansions and isn’t as much of a lost for the player character.

- The “Armor Class Profession changer” would be dependent on Light, Medium, and Heavy. In other worlds the conversion wouldn’t work if a Mesmer wanted to become a warrior, or vice versa. However if a Thief wanted to become an Engi, or a Ranger then it’s “fine”.

- Ascended/Legendary weapons and armor are becoming more prominent now (so we wouldn’t really run into as many issues of soulbound items.

- We now have the Wardrobe and transmutations charges (150 – 600 gems) for weapons; I don’t know about anyone else but I like Fashion Wars 2.

- Cultural Armor wouldn’t be affected.

- Living World/ Story shouldn’t be affected much in my opinion since everything is based upon character “Race”

Anyway I know that this would be time consuming but there are quite a-lot of benefits from this especially when it comes to purchasing more gems for other items as well.

Total Make Over Kit (350 – 1400 gems)
Identity Repair Kit (1000 gems)
Transmutation Charges (150 – 600 gems)
etc…

Anyway for the “Armor Class Profession Changer” would 1400 – 2000 gems be sufficient per character?

Also if anyone have any suggestions why this idea wouldn’t work, could work, if the price is sufficient, or not let me know in the post.

Thank You.

Not something I’m interested in at all, but I want to say thing, while you’re probably right in regards to lack of impact on the Personal Story, don’t make any assumptions. We don’t know what may be in the coding and its already been shown repeatedly that whenever the PS gets messed with, the whole kitten thing breaks.

Why is this thread a thing? Gw1 Amnoon as barely even a trading camp with only a handful of ripped tents and pier., now its an actual city of refugees. Do yo want it to still just be a bunch of ripped up tents? Also, no one cared about Amnoon back in the day, there wasn’t anything there to bother with, Augury was where people congregated in the desert.
I get that there is something missing in GW2, some bit of atmosphere or flavor that GW1 had, but some of this stuff people bring up just doesn’t make sense.

Mechanics absolutely make a good game, if the mechanics were bad none of the stuff you brought up would matter, since no one would bother playing the once.

Fair enough, I still think evidence suggests the gods of GW are more along the lines of the Greek gods or Dungeons and Dragons, rather than actually being omnipotent, omniscient and all that. I’m….not sure that was ever really in question.

The gods in GW already weren’t that powerfull to begin with, we’ve fought Abandon back in Nightfall.

Abaddon isn’t a good measuring stick, he was both chained and (by some evidence) physically broken. Though I don’t fully subscribe to it (yes I know it was in the data files, Konig, but it still doesn’t make sense) but according to some Abaddon was still reforming his body, hence the head and hands deal.

I don’t get what you’re saying about the spirits of the wild “not being alien enough” as somehow being proof that the spirits are connected to either the Six or humans or whatever. Its rather common for fantasy stories, regardless of the media format, to include recognizable creatures and concepts. There isn’t any evidence that humans brought any flora or fauna with them when the Six led them to Tyria. That’s not to say its impossible or implausible that they may have brought some domesticated animals with them to Tyria, but creatures like bears, snow leopards, wolverines? Have you ever seen a real wolverine, what they can do to someone? No, there is not currently any evidence that the Spirits of the Wild are connected to either humans or the Six directly.

No one here said there wasn’t a ‘mental connection’, not myself, not Konig, not anyone else that has posted in this thread. You have misrepresented the point some of us have been trying to make, you have used the Straw-man Logical Fallacy. Or perhaps you should take your own reading comprehension into consideration before casting aspersions about others.
What we’ve been trying to say is that this isn’t a Hive-mind (as the term is commonly understood) nor is there outright mind control (again, as is commonly understood). And whatever the Nightmare Court believes is not inherently reflective of reality within the GW universe. And as for the Dream, its as much an environment, a place, as it is a repository knowledge and experiences.
Are there plot holes? Yes, Arenanet has an imperfect writing style unfortunately, just something that happens when members of the writing team change over time.
You want a Hive-mind race from within GW? Closest you’re going to get is the Skritt, not the Sylvari.

Sylvari an argument for the best race?

The Greyhawk.9107

This thread is going to get locked so kittening quickly…..

What is it with you and this fallacy you keep claiming about how supposedly think I speak for the Lore community (or do I think I speak for the entire human race now?) I got on your case about tone when you called out Konig Des Todes for something you were doing to him and later me. And my own statement about the people that have been around GW lore the longest was not about myself but people like Konig, who along with Drax probably knows more about the Lore of GW than some Anet employees. The two of them aren’t always right, but if one of them puts out some lore info, people around here do tend to give them serous consideration rather than dismissing it out of hand. As to Konig’s tone, that’s just how he is, he a blunt, no-nonsense kinda guy. And if you notice, there are other people in this thread that are also disagreeing with you

I am not supposing myself to be speaking for all when I reference the commonly agreed upon definitions of certain words or terms. Word have meaning, meanings that a collection of people have chosen to adhere to.

And you don’t own this thread just because you started it, that is not how forums work. You don’t get to decide who gets to take part of the conversation. So stop asking, ‘cause I ain’t going nowhere (at least until anet locks the thread).

They don’t choose to visit the Dream, its where they are born, where they are created. Not being able to choose whether or not to experience the Dream prior to awakening doesn’t equate to mind control or a lesser degree of free will. This is not unlike an argument I saw someone try to make about how since human can’t choose to be born, to choose to exist, that humans aren’t sapient somehow. There are tons of things we don’t get to choose in life, like who will we be born to, what our first language will be, whether or not we have to go to school etc. We can’t even control our own emotions. None of this is somehow mind control or lessening of freewill.

You bring up how they ‘report to the Tree’ as some kind of proof they are being controlled. The Pale Tree is their kittening mother, and you know what, when a person’s mother asks them to do something people generally do what they are asked, excluding unfortunate circumstances or very young children. She doesn’t however actually rule the sylvari, the closest thing they have to rulers are the Luminaries, four of the Firstborn that guide their people and deal with other races’ governments. As for ‘feelings’ that are force on them, ALL feelings are forced on a person. You can’t choose when to have an emotion and when not to, no one can truly control their emotions (they may be able to keep themselves from being controlled by their emotions, but that’s a different concept). In regards to the intro, your going to have to be more specific, depending on what choices you make in character creation the intro can be different.

You want to talk to someone else? That’s your choice, but I’m not leaving.

You are the type that needs to be told the sky is blue before believing it, and you are the type to not question something even if you see the opposite to be true…

No, and kitten your presumptions about my personal perception or my comprehension. Twice you’ve accused those of us that are disagreeing with you of arrogance in our arguments, and then you go and then have to gall to tell me to stop posting here. Seriously who do you think you are?

<She can’t make a sylvari do kitten if said sylvari doesn’t want to.>
While very true that was not my point at all, proof that you are not only not reading my posts, or understanding them. This is something I agree with. Some resist, most don’t.

There. Is. Nothing. To. Resist. From. The. Tree.
She cannot control the Dream, she cannot directly control the sylvari, She does not even try. There is a difference between mind control and just doing something because your mother asked you to. Now tell me again about my lack of reading comprehension.

<Riannoc’s death is of note for several reasons, the primary one being that he was the very first of his race to die and as such had a great>
I’d say replay and reread the events. She quite clearly said it affected “all” Silvari. Regardless of the reason behind this ability, the ability still happened and exists.

<While the Pale Tree may still feel the many deaths of the sylvari, the rest of them have not been shown to.>
Aside from her saying it did, no. The Pale Tree by your own admission experiences something akin to a hive mind.

What the Pale Tree experiences isn’t the argument here, she is the progenitor of the sylvari, not a sylvari herself (in spite of the appearance of her avatar). And as I stated, Riannoc was a unique case that cannot be attributed to all the other sylvari deaths that have happened since.

<Are you saying that both the Tree and Arenanet are lying to the player base? Cause you’re going to need some motherkittening proof is you are.>
I’m saying your understanding of their statements is incorrect.

Really now. The cinematics at the end of the first chapter for sylvari PCs all include this line: “No, dear heart. I do not control the Dream. I am simply its caretaker.” How more clear and concise can you possibly get?

<Near or complete absence of individualism and free will, mean that the Dream isn’t a hive mind as the term is commonly described.>
As stated many times now it’s the closest known comparison, not meant to be directly compared to. While the Silvari certainly expresses individualism, out of all the races they are less so.

Again, no, they’ve been shown IN GAME to be just as individualistic as any of the other races (I’d argue that of the five player races its the Charr that have the least level of individualism, but due to culture instead of biology, but that’s an argument for another time). The ONLY caveat to that is a spoiler that I won’t post out a sliver of respect for your enjoyment of the story, but I will say that in the end it still doesn’t equal a Hive Mind.

Kindly learn to NOT make assumptions about peoples character and general behavior from only a handful of sentences.

Sylvari an argument for the best race?

in Lore

The Greyhawk.9107

-snip-

And I find your own tone to be equally so, particularly in light of how you are lecturing people who have been immersed in the lore of gw1 and gw2 for over a decade (and I’m not referring to myself so much) while you yourself have only just gotten into the game recently by your own admission. The Lore forum is around for us to learn, question, theorize, discuss, and when necessary, debunk. There is still a lot we don’t fully understand about the GW universe (especially taking Anet’s writing style into consideration) but some things have been laid to rest to the best of our ability, with the basics of the Dream being one of them.

Again I state to you, by both the Pale Tree’s and Arenanet’s words, the Tree has ZERO control of the Dream OR the Sylvari themselves (as a group or individually). She is not the Borg Queen, she couldn’t prevent the formation of the Nightmare Court, she couldn’t stop the Soundless from separating from both the Ventari Sylvari and the Nightmare Court, she couldn’t even stop a single sylvari engineer from going to far.

She can’t make a sylvari do kitten if said sylvari doesn’t want to.

Are you saying that both the Tree and Arenanet are lying to the player base? Cause you’re going to need some motherkittening proof is you are.

Riannoc’s death is of note for several reasons, the primary one being that he was the very first of his race to die and as such had a great deal of impact on an empathic people. He was also a Firstborn, and as such had a different connection and relationship to both the Pale Tree and the Dream than the rest of his people. The Firstborn are unique in more ways than simply being the first, they’ve show insight and abilities (such as Caithe’s ability to temporarily re-enter the Dream, with the Tree’s help) so the his death would have been all the more impactful. Next, Riannoc’s death took place in either 1303 or 1304 ae and the first of the second born didn’t awaken until sometime in 1304 ae, so there is a strong possibility that at his death there were only the Tree and the other eleven Firstborn around to ‘feel’ it. Finally its important to note that not even the Tree knew the full circumstances of Riannoc’s death, much less any of the other sylvari. They did not “feel” it as if it happened to themselves, as impactful as it was it was also vague in comparison to what you’ve been implying.

While the Pale Tree may still feel the many deaths of the sylvari, the rest of them have not been shown to.

In regards to the concept of a Hive Mind I’ll quote a certain giant: I don’t think that word means what you think it means. While it may be ‘semantics’ to you, to many of us its important distinctions with the lack of certain attributes, such as the near or complete absence of individualism and free will, mean that the Dream isn’t a hive mind as the term is commonly described.

Sylvari an argument for the best race?

The Greyhawk.9107

But her own words the Pale Tree does not control the Dream
I believe this to be correct, but can still be taken as a mass learning tool. The Dream is like a playground sandbox, where saplings are allowed to play with any “toy” within that realm. In this case, the “toys” are bits of others shared knowledge.

And? My only point was that the Pale Tree isn’t the one controlling this like some Borg Queen, not that the Dream doesn’t give some basic knowledge like speech and “Fire is hot” and “water is wet” etc. Its also important to note that no two sylvari get the same share of the “Well” (to use Konig’s analogy) and to reiterate his statement, not everything a sylvari learns returns to the Dream, typically only the ones connect to strong emotion.

That’s the important point to the Dream and the Sylvaris’ connection to it and each other, emotion. The Sylvari maintain an empathic connection to the Dream and a rather tenuous one by all observation, as some of their kind are able to sever themselves from it (The Soundless).

Its also important to note that not all Sylvari have a wyld hunt, actually only a comparatively few of them do (though the number of newly awakened with one is increasing) so most sylvari don’t have a “compulsion” to do anything outside their own individual desires.

It might not be fully awake, as it’s driving of the Krait from the deep trenches seems less of a planned or invasion attack, and more of a “It started stirring/it’s minions pushed outward.”

We know the inquest had a minion of the DSD at some point though.

Considering it drove both the krait and the karka out of the deep, both being a very vicious species and the two taking place at different intervals of time, I’m not inclined to think that DSD hasn’t fully awakened.

And if Jennah ever did go cray cray, it would probably be the blade that went to find a replacement heir. Supposedly there’s a hint that there’s another heir. One would hope anyways. Jennah’s getting to her late thirties and has no known heir…

We don’t know how old Jennah is and I’m not inclined to think that she’s in her late thirties. Remember that she took the throne at an early (if unspecified) age due to the death of her father. Konig or Drax could confirm or deny this but I seem to recall that a big part of the problem she’s had with the ministry is because they increased their power and influence during the early years of her reign, as she (again, as I recall) wasn’t quite old enough to rule on her own. But I could be wrong.

By my understanding, the Queen’s Jubilee (in 1326) was the tenth year of her reign, and her reign did not actually start until she reached the age of majority in Kryta (whatever that is). So if we assume that the age of majority in Kryta is 18, that would make her 28 in 1326, and 32 now.

(If the ten years includes the regency period, then she could be up to four years younger (she was the ruler in Edge of Destiny, set in 1320), and if the age of majority is something other than 18, then her age could be different based on the different age of majority.)

And yes, a big part of Caudecus beef is that he decided he enjoyed being in charge when he was the regent.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the Jubilee was her tenth year as Queen, I’d already taken that into account. I’m still leaning towards Jennah’s coronation taking place while she was still too young to rule on her own. Jennah’s page states “Her coronation was in 1316 AE, after the death of her father.”
(I acknowledge that the wording is the wiki’s but its all I have at this time)
The wording seems to imply to me that she was crowned very shortly after her father’s death (would it have killed them to give him a name?). Admittedly it doesn’t say “immediately after the death of her father” but it still seems to imply a short period of time.
There’s also the possibility, though low probability, that age of majority in Kryta is lower than eighteen. Tyria being a mishmash of High Middle age, Renaissance and early Industrial (and whatever the Norn may fall under) its not outside the realm of possibility (and there are some cases in gw1 of characters just under eighteen that are treated like adults). But Tyria being a fantasy world that’s view almost overwhelmingly through the modern lens (as compared to, say, Tolkien or even Martin) it’d be rather unlikely. Not really sure why I bothered now…
Regardless, until we get better info on the matter, I’ll remain of the opinion that Jennah’s still a little younger than her thirties, if for no other reason that it makes it slightly more believable that she doesn’t have a publicly acknowledged heir yet.

Ahh, no it doesn’t. Triple checked both Jennah’s page and the timeline page, neither mentions her birth year. Gunna need you to give us where you go that.

You’re right. And we’re told it was a headache for her to wrestle control back from Caudecus later.

That said, there was a line in the Grove at launch (1325) that said that that Jennah was ‘almost thirty.’ That puts her in her early-to-mid thirties now.

Huh. That’s…weird. I was still leaning towards almost thirty myself as it made her not having an official publicly recognized heir vaguely more plausible. So much for that.
I do dislike Anet’s decision to have the passage of time in-game match up with real world years. It causes more problems than it fixes in my opinion.

In a game with submachine guns, assault rifles, grenades, flamethrowers, etc…a bent stick with a string attached and a pointed stick projectile seem thematically off.

To be fair it wasn’t until the 1800s that guns actually got better than longbows.

The reason bows where dropped for guns is because wielding a longbow requires years of training to master, while a man can be trained to use a gun in a day.

It doesnt really matter when, in the real world, guns finally outstripped bows (it happened earlier than the 1800’s) if we are referencing a setting with assault rifles, machineguns, flamethrowers, grenades, tanks, helicopters, attack submarines, etc…

Nothing in that article contradicts what I said.

Did you not read it? That kitten crazy motherkittener killed azinays with a bow, a broadsword and a set of motherkittening BAGPIPES! As the meme goes, your argument is now invalid.

If it was NCsoft making the complaint, which I doubt (if they had such a big problem with it, why’d they let Anet release Factions in the first place?) its still a big double standard as even Asian game makers (including NCSoft) will mix’n match differing European cultures when making a western style fantasy, but get bent out of shape when someone else does it with theirs. And it makes sense for Cantha to not be monolithic, its a continent after all, there SHOULD be differences in regional cultures. I’ll admit though that Anet was more than a little bit clumsy when using different east Asian cultures for Factions. They just need plan things out better.

Calling it now, the new emperor of Cantha will turn out to be Bubbles.

You want the Deep Sea Elder Dragon to be that small!?!

I’d much rather that the Emperor be Ecclesiate Xun Rao going by the name Usoku who should turn out to be Menzies himself thus giving us some tie-in to Path of Fire.

Of course considering Cantha’s new policies as well as their full subjugation and absorption of the Kurzicks & Luxons I should hope Cantha takes inspiration from one Asian Country and not all of them at once like in Guild Wars 1.

The Country used as inspiration should preferably be Japan(study Inuyasha, Naruto and Bleach for inspiration ArenaNet) as China has already been done by WoW MoP.

People were angry enough when GW2 released cat ears. They saw it as obsessive “weeaboo nonsense” catering to anime fanboys/girls and whatnot. They’re not going to be happy about what you’re suggesting either. Especially not if your reasons cite the 3 most stereo-typically annoying anime series to ever spawn from Japan.

Also, diversity is a good thing. There are a lot of beautiful places in all Asia to take inspiration from. Japan isn’t the only cool place in the world. I’m sure it’s lovely, but let’s not just toss out the rest of an entire continent just because someone is a fan of Japanese cartoons.

^This. Sooooooooo much this.

Yeah…that’s a bad reason to pick a specific nation/culture as inspiration. Also REALLY bad sources to use.

Plus I’ve never seen using multiple nations/cultures as inspiration for fantasy as being a bad thing, considering how its done all the time with western/medieval Europe style fantasy all the kittening time. Why is it a bad thing specifically for Asians? Seems a bit like a double standard to me.

Even with a human main I didn’t like owing fealty of any kind to the Shining Blade. It felt like I was joining a kittening cult with all the ritualism, and like with Sailsd, my character is a Lightbringer and I didn’t have to go through half this kitten with the Order. In the (highly unlikely) chance that Jennah goes bad the player character is kitten outta luck with a kittening MAGICAL DEATH OATH OVER THEIR HEAD. All just to get just a bit of info the player character shouldn’t have given a kitten about. And the dialog was so very cringey.

Overall my least favorite aspect of this entire LW season.

Because we have both guns and regular bows, cross bows would be redundant. Don’t expect new weapon types, you’re setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I dunno, I wasn’t particularly impressed. It just didn’t do anything or tell us anything, aside from an apparent return to Orr. It was just…random changing scenes. Didn’t do anything for me. The previous two episodes had significantly better trailers imo.

Suggestion…in the Gem Store…sell a breather skin that turns the character into a Mermaid/Merman when underwater…pretty sure it would sell like hotcakes and my wife would adore it ;-)

Valdergare
Ranger, Isle of Janthir

I have a strange feeling that to keep things more GW2ish, you’re more likely to get a krait or largos transform tonic that works underwater and allows combat. I don’t think there are any transformations in game that turn you into something that does not exist in the world in some form already, and merfolk just aren’t part of Tyrian lore afaik.

Also, if whatever form it takes it does sell like hotcakes, odds are everyone will look exactly the same when using it. Same mer-hair, same mer-tail, same mer-skin tone, same mer-channel (oops, ignore that last bit, flashed back to Adam West’s Batman). I don’t see that as a good thing. I mean, I am happy to wear outfits even though they get a bit “samey” but at least I can dye those to stand out.

Well, there are different colored quaggan tonics, as well as the various Mystery tonics that can turn you into a random tree, a random piece of furniture, etc. So there are already methods in-game to make peoples’ looks differ using tonics.

Yeah, but all that stuff is already in game (and trees and furniture tonics can’t be used in combat, correct?), mermaids have no models in game at this time.
